We conducted a systematic review of research in artificial intelligence (AI) for retinal fundus photographic images. We highlighted the use of various AI algorithms, including deep learning (DL) models, for application in ophthalmic and non-ophthalmic (i.e., systemic) disorders. We found that the use of AI algorithms for the interpretation of retinal images, compared to clinical data and physician experts, represents an innovative solution with demonstrated superior accuracy in identifying many ophthalmic (e.g., diabetic retinopathy (DR), age-related macular degeneration (AMD), optic nerve disorders), and non-ophthalmic disorders (e.g., dementia, cardiovascular disease). There has been a significant amount of clinical and imaging data for this research, leading to the potential incorporation of AI and DL for automated analysis. AI has the potential to transform healthcare by improving accuracy, speed, and workflow, lowering cost, increasing access, reducing mistakes, and transforming healthcare worker education and training. Simple Summary: In this research, we established inbred families of Fenneropenaeus chinensis with an inbreeding coefficient of 0.25, and studied how inbreeding depression affects the larval development. We examined gene frequency changes in two developmental stages through sequencing. The results showed significant inbreeding depression in larval survival rates during hatching and two major developmental stages, ranging from 24.36% to 45.28%. Sequencing at these stages revealed deviations from Mendelian segregation, with homozygote deficiency and heterozygote excess being the primary selection types. The elimination during the larval stage resulted in more heterozygotes being retained and increased the population's heterozygosity. These findings indicate the presence of large amount of harmful recessive alleles in the Chinese shrimp genome and their potential criteria for elimination. The study provide valuable insights into the mechanisms of inbreeding depression in marine animals and provides guidance for shrimp population breeding strategies. Marine animals possess genomes of considerable complexity and heterozygosity. Their unique reproductive system, characterized by high fecundity and substantial early mortality rates, increases the risk of inbreeding, potentially leading to severe inbreeding depression during various larval developmental stages. In this study, we established a set of inbred families of Fenneropenaeus chinensis, with an inbreeding coefficient of 0.25, and investigated elimination patterns and the manifestations of inbreeding depression during major larval developmental stages. Reduced-representation genome sequencing was utilized to explore the genotype frequency characteristics across two typical elimination stages. The results revealed notable mortality in hatching and metamorphosis into mysis and post-larvae stages. Inbreeding depression was also evident during these developmental stages, with depression rates of 24.36%, 29.23%, and 45.28%. Segregation analysis of SNPs indicated an important role of gametic selection before hatching, accounting for 45.95% of deviation in the zoea stage. During the zygotic selection phase of larval development, homozygote deficiency and heterozygote excess were the main selection types. Summation of the two types explained 82.31% and 89.91% of zygotic selection in the mysis and post-larvae stage, respectively. The overall distortion ratio decreased from 22.37% to 12.86% in the late developmental stage. A total of 783 loci were identified through selective sweep analysis. We also found the types of distortion at the same locus could change after the post-larvae stage. The predominant shifts included a transition of gametic selection toward normal segregation and other forms of distortion to heterozygous excess. This may be attributed to high-intensity selection on deleterious alleles and genetic hitchhiking effects. Following larval elimination, a greater proportion of heterozygous individuals were preserved. We detected an increase in genetic diversity parameters such as expected heterozygosity, observed heterozygosity, and polymorphic information content in the post-larvae stage. These findings suggest the presence of numerous recessive deleterious alleles and their linkage and suggest a major role of the partial dominance hypothesis. The results provide valuable insights into the mechanisms of inbreeding depression in marine animals and offer guidance for formulating breeding strategies in shrimp populations. Aims: To investigate the association between professionalism and social media competence among Chinese mainland nursing undergraduates. Design: This study employed a cross‐sectional descriptive correlation design. Participants: From June to July 2021, 797 nursing students from four nursing colleges in Jiangsu Province, China, were chosen using stratified cluster sampling. Methods: The questionnaire included the Chinese version of the Nursing Professionalism Scale and the Social Media Competency Scale. The association between professionalism and social media competency was examined using Pearson's correlation analysis. Results: The professionalism of nursing undergraduates (average scores:70.44 ± 8.82) was at a medium level. Social media self‐efficacy, performance expectancy, facilitating conditions and social influence (3.76 ± 0.75, 3.87 ± 0.60, 3.53 ± 0.69, 3.41 ± 0.76) were at a medium–high level, while social media experience and effort expectancy (3.03 ± 0.72, 2.60 ± 0.59) were at medium and low levels. Among nursing undergraduates, professionalism was related to social media competence, among which, professionalism was positively correlated with social media self‐efficacy (r = 0.40, p < 0.01), social media experience (r = 0.50, p < 0.01), performance expectancy (r = 0.34, p < 0.01), facilitating conditions (r = 0.41, p < 0.01), but negatively correlated with effort expectancy (r = −0.10, p < 0.01). Conclusion: The professionalism of nursing undergraduates is related to social media. The scores of social media self‐efficacy, social media experience, performance expectancy and facilitating conditions of nursing students with high professionalism were higher than those of nursing students with low professionalism. Impact: This study suggests that developing a course on health communication on social media can help nursing students improve their professionalism. Background: Narrative medicine has become a solution to cultivate medical students' ability of empathy and humanistic care. However, the role of narrative medicine is lacking in the study of professionalism. The aim of this study was to analyze the effects of narrative medical theory learning and narrative writing on professionalism, empathy and humanistic care ability of nursing students. Methods: This cluster randomized controlled trial was conducted between June 2021 and June 2022 in two universities in Jiangsu, China. The participants of this study were 85 nursing students who were randomly divided into the intervention group (n = 43) or the control group (n = 42). Participants in the intervention group were trained in narrative medical theory learning and narrative writing based on a Web-based platform, while those in the control group were not. Self-report questionnaires of professionalism, empathy and humanistic care ability were used before and after intervention. Results: The results showed that the professionalism score of the intervention group was (68.7 ± 6.8 vs. 64.5 ± 7.5; P = 0.005), empathy (99.4 ± 15.7 vs. 92.2 ± 14.6; P = 0.014) and humanistic care ability (127.6 ± 20.0 vs. 113.3 ± 18.8; P = 0.004) were better than the control group. Conclusion: The results of this quantitative study suggest that narrative medical theory education and narrative writing based on the network platform can promote the development of professionalism, empathy and humanistic care ability of nursing undergraduates. Background: Healthy Eating Index-2015 (HEI-2015), a healthy eating pattern proposed by Dietary Guidelines for Americans, is proven to be protective against various diseases. However, whether it is associated with age-related cataracts is unknown. Methods: This population-based cross-sectional study included 6395 participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) in the cycles from 2005 to 2008. HEI-2015 was calculated from 24-h dietary recall interviews, ranging from 0 to 100, and higher HEI-2015 represents better diet quality. Age-related cataract was generated from the questionnaire. The association between HEI-2015 and cataract was assessed with logistic regression models. Propensity score weighting, restricted cubic spline, and subgroup analysis were conducted to further explore the relationship. Results: 6395 participants were included in the study, with a mean [standard deviation (SD)] age of 48.7 (15.3) years and 3115 (48.7%) being male. HEI-2015 was negatively associated with cataracts after adjusting all covariates included, both as a continuous variable [odds ratio (OR): 0.991, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.984–0.997, p = 0.006] and quartiles with the highest quartile compared to the lowest (OR: 0.739, 95% CI: 0.559–0.980, p = 0.035). After propensity score weighting, the association remained significant. Restricted cubic spline revealed no non-linear relationship (p for non-linearity 0.085). Subgroup analysis showed that there were no interaction effects. Conclusions: Adherence to the healthy eating pattern, HEI-2015, was associated with a lower risk of age-related cataracts. Introduction: Diabetic macular edema (DME) is one of the major sight-threatening complications of diabetic retinopathy, which is associated with retinal inflammation. However, it is still unknown whether DME is associated with systemic inflammation. The study aimed to investigate the association between systemic inflammatory and optical coherence tomography (OCT) biomarkers in patients with treatment-naïve center-involving diabetic macular edema (DME) and to further explore the role of systemic inflammation in DME. Methods: Medical records including clinical characteristics and ophthalmic examinations were collected from patients with treatment-naïve center-involving DME. Systemic inflammation markers including systemic immune-inflammatory index (SII), neutrophil–lymphocyte ratio (NLR), and platelet–lymphocyte ratio (PLR) were calculated. OCT biomarkers, including intraretinal cyst (IRC) size, disorganization of retinal inner layers (DRIL), external limiting membrane (ELM)/ellipsoid zone (EZ) integrity, retinal hyperreflective foci (HRF), subretinal fluid (SRF) and vitreomacular (VM) status were evaluated manually. Correlation analysis and multivariable linear regression models were used to investigate the relationship between systemic inflammatory markers and OCT biomarkers. Results: A total of 82 patients with treatment-naïve center-involving DME were included. The number of HRF on OCT was correlated with SII, NLR, and PLR and positively associated with SII (p < 0.001) in both univariate and multivariate linear regression analyses. The differences remained largely the same during subgroup analysis controlling DM duration, SRF, and ELM/EZ integrity. No significant association was observed between other OCT biomarkers and blood inflammatory markers. Conclusion: Retinal HRF in diabetic macular edema is associated with blood inflammatory markers, which supports the theory of HRF's inflammatory nature and emphasizes the important role of inflammation in DME. Background: Labor epidural analgesia has been suggested to be associated with intrapartum fever. We designed this study to investigate the effects of epidural analgesia and combined spinal-epidural analgesia on maternal intrapartum temperature. Methods: Four hundred healthy nullipara patients were randomly assigned to receive either epidural analgesia (EA group) or combined spinal-epidural analgesia (CSEA group). Maternal temperature was measured hourly after analgesia administration. The primary outcome was the incidence of maternal fever, and the secondary outcomes were the duration of analgesia, analgesia to full cervical dilation and analgesia to delivery. Neonatal outcomes and other basic labor events were also recorded. Results: Maternal temperature gradually increased with time in both analgesia groups during labor. However, the CSEA group had a lower incidence of maternal fever, and a lower mean maternal temperature at 5 h, 6 h, and 9 h after analgesia. In addtion, the CSEA group also had a shorter time of analgesia duration, analgesia to full cervical dilation, analgesia to delivery, and less dose of epidural local anesthetic than the EA group. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that combined spinal-epidural analgesia is associated with a lower risk of intrapartum fever than epidural analgesia. Trial registration: ChiCTR1900026606. Electric vehicles (EVs) are widely applied in logistics companies' urban logistics distribution, as fuel prices increase and environmental awareness grows. This study introduces an EV charging station (CS) location-routing problem with time windows and resource sharing (EVCS-LRPTWRS). Resource sharing, among multiple depots within multiple service periods is proposed to adjust the transportation resource configuration for a sustainable logistics development. Solving the EVCS-LRPTWRS involves a periodic CS location selection and a multi-depot multi-period EV routing optimization. A bi-objective nonlinear programming model is proposed to formulate the EVCS-LRPTWRS with a minimum total operating cost and number of EVs. A hybrid algorithm combining the Gaussian mixture clustering algorithm (GMCA) with the improved nondominated sorting genetic algorithm-II (INSGA-II) is designed to address the EVCS-LRPTWRS. The GMCA is employed to assign customers to appropriate depots in various service periods in order to reduce the computational complexity. The INSGA-II is adopted to obtain the Pareto optimal solutions by using the CS insertion operation to select CS locations and integrating the elite retention mechanism to ensure a stable and excellent performance. The superiority of the hybrid algorithm is proven by comparison with the other three algorithms (i.e., multi-objective genetic algorithm, multi-objective particle swarm optimization, and multi-objective ant colony optimization). An empirical study of the EVCS-LRPTWRS in Chongqing City, China is conducted. Then, four types of service period divisions and three scenarios of resource sharing modes are further analyzed and discussed. In recent years, quercetin plays an increasingly important role in the medical field. However, the absorption and effect of quercetin as a drug in vivo are limited due to its extremely poor solubility in water. In addition, chitosan nanoparticles can deliver poorly soluble drugs as drug delivery carriers. Herein, chitosan nanoparticles were prepared by oxidative degradation and ionic cross-linking technology to study the drug loading properties of quercetin. On the other hand, the application of chitosan for fluorescent materials can improve the biocompatibility of fluorescent materials and increase the adsorption of fluorescent materials. Fluorescently labeled chitosan nanoparticles, especially chitosan microsphere fluorescent probes prepared using the abundant amino groups on chitosan chains to react with fluorescein isothiocyanate (FTIC), have been widely used as fluorescent probes in biomarkers and medical diagnostics. Therefore, chitosan–quercetin (CS–QT) drug-loaded nanoparticles are labeled with FITC, and the drug-loaded rate, encapsulation efficiency, and antioxidant properties were investigated. The drug-loaded rate of the sample reaches 8.39%, the encapsulation rate reaches 83.65%, and exhibits good antioxidant capacity. The fluorescence aperture of the obtained sample was consistent with the inhibition zone, which could realize the visualization of the antibacterial performance of the sample. Background: Delay in care seeking is one of the causes for neonatal death. Mothers' knowledge of neonatal danger signs is imperative to promote early recognition of neonatal illness and reduce the delay in care seeking. Currently, no study has been conducted on the knowledge about neonatal danger signs in China, especially in economically less developed areas. This study aimed to examine the knowledge of neonatal danger signs and risk factors of poor knowledge among mothers in a rural county of southwest of China. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Wenshan, a rural county of southwest of China. A total of 112 respondents were included from November 2020 to February 2021 among women who had babies aged 0–12 months and brought their babies to health care centers for immunization within the study period. A questionnaire with 18-item key neonatal danger signs was used to measure their knowledge about these signs. Mothers who scored above average were considered to have relatively good knowledge whereas those who scored below average were considered to have relatively poor knowledge. Independent predictors of mothers' knowledge were identified by multivariable logistic regression analysis. Results: The mean knowledge score of neonatal danger signs of mothers was 18.1 (SD = 8.6). Fifty-eight percentage of mothers (65/112) had poor knowledge of neonatal danger signs. Danger signs of "bluish or pale skin", "chest indrawing", and "convulsion" were mostly recognized, whereas danger signs of "not able to feed since birth, or stopped feeding well", "excessive crying" and "eyes draining pus" were recognized poorly. Less than four antenatal visits [AOR = 4.348], younger than 25 years old [AOR = 3.839], ethnic minority [AOR = 3.956] and family financial difficulty [AOR = 4.944] were significant indicators of relatively poor knowledge. Conclusions: Mothers' knowledge about neonatal danger signs in rural China is poor even though the coverage of maternal and child health care services are expanded. Existing efforts should be enhanced for antenatal care visits, avoiding early marriage as well as early childbearing. More attention should be paid to low-income ethnic minority mothers. Valvuloplasty for rheumatic aortic valve disease remains controversial. We conducted this study to explore whether aortic valvuloplasty is appropriate for the rheumatic population. A comprehensive search was conducted, and 7 eligible retrospective studies were identified from PubMed, Embase, Medline and Cochrane (up to April 7, 2020) according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The data for hospital mortality, 5-year survival, 5-year reoperation, aortic insufficiency grade (AIG) and aortic valve gradient (AVG) were extracted by 2 independent reviewers and were analysed to evaluate the safety and availability of aortic valvuloplasty for rheumatic patients. The heterogeneity of the results was estimated using the Q test and I2 statistics. The fixed pooling model was used when I2 ≤ 50%; otherwise, the random pooling model was selected. 7 articles with 418 patients were included. The pooled hospital mortality, 5-year survival and 5-year reoperation rates were 3.2%, 94.5% and 9.9%, respectively. The heterogeneities of the weighted mean differences (WMD) values of the AIG and AVG between preoperation and postoperation were extremely high (I2 = 81.5%, p < 0.001 in AIG, I2 = 97.6%, p = 0.003 in AVG). Subgroup analysis suggested that the AIG and AVG were improved by 3.03 grades (I2 = 0%, p < 0.001) and 3.16 mmHg (I2 = 0%, p < 0.001) in the European group, respectively. In the Asian group, the AIG and AVG were improved by 2.57 grades (I2 = 0%, p < 0.001) and 34.39 mmHg (I2 = 0%, p < 0.001), respectively. Compared with the values at discharge, the AIG was increased by 0.15 grades (I2 = 0%, p = 0.031) and the AVG was still decreased by 2.07 mmHg (I2 = 0%, p = 0.031) at the time of follow up. Valvuloplasty is safe and effective to treat rheumatic aortic insufficiency and stenosis, and the duration of maintenance required to improve stenosis was longer than that of insufficiency. Excessive production of visceral adipose is a major risk factor of many diseases. Inhibiting the adipogenesis of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) will be an efficient way to block adipose production. We illuminated POU class 2 homeobox associating factor 1 (POU2AF1) may promote MSCs adipogenesis by histone deacetylases 1 (HDAC1) signalling. Human retroperitoneal adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells were isolated from overweight and control groups of patients. IncRNA microarray was used to identified gene expression levels. Adenovirus transduction and cellular small-interfering RNA transfection were used to achieve overexpression and interference of POU2AF1 or HDAC1. Adipogenesis was identified by Oil-red O staining, triglycende, cholesterol assay, real-time PCR and Western Blot. POU2AF1 expression was upregulated in retroperitoneal adipose tissue of overweight patients, and increased during adipogenesis. Overexpression of POU2AF1 promoted spontaneous adipogenesis without adipogenic treatment. Silencing of endogenous POU2AF1 in MSCs inhibited adipogenesis. Overexpression of POU2AF1 alleviated the translocation of HDAC1 to the nucleus. The mRNA level of HDAC1 was also reduced. Co-transfection of Ad-POU2AF1 and Ad-HDAC1 partially reversed the promotion effect of POU2AF1 overexpression in MSCs spontaneous adipogenic differentiation. POU2AF1 involves in the natural differentiation of human mesenchymal stem cells. Overexpression or silencing POU2AF1 could effectively induce or inhibit the adipogenesis by HDAC1 signaling. Objectives: COVID-19 has become a global epidemic, and effective therapies have not been discovered up to now. We conducted this study to explore the effectiveness and safety of tocilizumab recently used for treating COVID-19. Method: A comprehensive search was conducted (up to September 27, 2020), and 19 eligible records were identified according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The data of the studies were extracted by 2 independent reviewers and were analyzed to evaluate the safety and availability of tocilizumab for treating COVID-19. Results: Thirteen retrospective case-control studies (n = 2285 patients) and 6 retrospective single-armed studies (n = 208) were retrieved in this study. In the comparison of tocilizumab treatment group (TCZ) and standard treatment group (ST), significant associations with a lower risk of admission to ICU, use of ventilation, and mortality (OR, 95% CI: 0.53, 0.26~1.09; 0.66, 0.46~0.94; 0.44, 0.36~0.55) were found in the tocilizumab treatment group. What is more, patients treated with tocilizumab had better clinical improvement compared with the patients treated with ST (OR, 1.24; 95% CI, 0.96~1.62). After taking tocilizumab, the patients had lower C-reactive protein (CRP), white blood cell count (WBC), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) (WMD, 95% CI: − 99.66, − 156.24~− 43.09; − 0.95, − 1.8~− 0.11; − 12.58, − 18.88~−6.29) but higher troponin (WMD, 7.61; 95% CI, 3.06~12.15) than before. In addition, tocilizumab did not have significant influence on patients' neutrophil count (Neut), lymphocyte count (Lymp), platelet count (Plt), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and creatine (WMD, 95% CI: − 0.29, − 2.91~2.33; 0.42, − 0.23~1.07; 5.2, − 2.85~13.25; 22.49, − 2.73~47.7; − 44.78, − 93.37~3.81). Conclusion: Tocilizumab may have potential effectiveness to treat COVID-19 according to the results of this study. However, more large-scale studies are needed for more accurate conclusions. Objective: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) can systematically harm more aspects of human health than just the liver. In addition to the potential roles of the gut microbiota in NAFLD, commensal fungi can functionally replace intestinal bacteria in maintaining the host immune response in the gut by reversing disease susceptibility. Therefore, gut commensal fungi should be studied to help understand NAFLD.Methods: The fungal compositions of 79 patients with NAFLD and 34 matched healthy subjects were studied via internal transcribed spacer sequencing. In the NAFLD group, 32 patients underwent liver biopsies to evaluate the associations between gut fungi and NAFLD development.Results: The fungal microbiota distribution was skewed in the patients with NAFLD. The relative abundances of Talaromyces, Paraphaeosphaeria, Lycoperdon, Curvularia, Phialemoniopsis, Paraboeremia, Sarcinomyces, Cladophialophora, and Sordaria were higher in patients with NAFLD, whereas the abundances of Leptosphaeria, Pseudopithomyces, and Fusicolla were decreased. Patients with NAFLD exhibited more co-occurring fungal intrakingdom correlations. Several fungi were found to be associated with liver injury, lipid metabolism, and the development of NAFLD.Conclusions: This study found that gut fungi may play some roles in NAFLD development. Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an autoimmune disease characterized by lower platelet count resulting from immune cells-mediated platelet clearance. Tacrolimus is an immunosuppressive agent which selectively inhibits T cell activation. Whether tacrolimus plays a role in ITP remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the effect of tacrolimus on ITP in mice. An ITP mouse model was established by injection of rat anti-mouse integrin GPIIb/CD41 immunoglobulin and treated with tacrolimus followed by isolation of peripheral blood mononuclear cells and plasma. The mRNA expression of T-bet, GATA3, and Foxp3 was measured by RT-PCR, and level of IFN-γ, IL-12p70, IL-4, IL-13, and TGF-β in plasma was measured by ELISA. Tacrolimus inhibited antiplatelet antibody-mediated platelet clearance in ITP mouse model. Meanwhile, tacrolimus-treated ITP mice displayed a significant decrease in the mRNA expression of T-bet and plasma level of IFN-γ and IL-12p70 compared with ITP mice but without differences when compared with normal mice. Furthermore, the expression of GATA3, Foxp3, and plasma level of IL-4 and TGF-β were upregulated in tacrolimus-treated ITP mice without significant differences to normal mice (except TGF-β). Tacrolimus prevents antiplatelet antibody-mediated thrombocytopenia in ITP mice possibly through regulating T cell differentiations, suggesting it might be a novel approach for preventing ITP. Morinda citrifolia (Noni) is extensively used in herbal remedies to prevent and treat various diseases, including hypertension. The purpose of this study was to investigate the vascular effects of noni fruit juice and characterize the upstream signaling pathways. We measured the systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, 24-hr urinary nitric oxide (NO) metabolite excretion, bodyweight (BW), and urine examination in SHR.Cg-Leprcp/NDmcr (SHR/cp) rats after 6 weeks noni juice (15 ml/kg) treatment. Noni juice significantly decreased blood pressure and 24-hr urinary NO metabolite without change of BW or urine volume. Furthermore, the noni juice extract (NJE) promoted endothelial vasorelaxation in rat aorta rings and NO product through an increase in phosphorylation of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). Deacetylasperulosidic acid (DAA) was an active compound in noni juice to improve NO release through same pathway in HUVECs. Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2), as a kind of transition metal dichalcogenide, has been widely studied for its excellent compatibility with most of inorganic nanomaterials. Nevertheless, its microscale and agglomeration limit the performance severely. Therefore, the special structure of V-MoS2 has drawn a lot of interest, which can not only reduce the size of MoS2 nanosheets but also improve the valence electron structure of the materials. In this work, SrTiO3@MoS2 composite nanofibers were synthesized by the simple electrospinning and hydrothermal method, and it was applied as a novel material for photodetector. SEM, TEM, EDX, XRD, I-T curves, and EIS analysis were used to study the structure and properties of the prepared SrTiO3@MoS2 composite nanofibers. Simulating under sunlight at a potential of 1.23 V, the prepared composite materials exhibited a superior photoelectric performance of photocurrent density of 21.4 μA and a resistance of 2.3 Ω. These results indicate that the composite of SrTiO3 nanofiber adhered with V-MoS2 has a stable composite structure, good electrical conductivity, and photoelectric sensitivity and is a suitable material for photodetectors. The construction of low-cost, high-performance electrocatalysts instead of platinum catalysts is critical to solving the energy crisis. Here, using simple electrospinning and hydrothermal methods, new MoS2 nanosheets on SrTiO3 nanofibers (NFs) and 2D SrTiO3@MoS2 heterostructure NFs are synthesized. In addition, SrTiO3@MoS2 heterostructure NFs are compared with bare SrTiO3 NFs and MoS2 nanosheets. Importantly, the prepared SrTiO3@MoS2 heterostructure shows better hydrogen-evolution reaction performance than other MoS2-based electrocatalysts with an overpotential of 165 mV at 10 mA cm−2, a Tafel slope of 81.41 mV dec−1, and long-term electrochemical durability of 3000 cycles. Therefore, the present work strongly demonstrates the positive synergy between SrTiO3 NFs and layered MoS2, and also provides a strategy for preparing low-cost and high-activity water-decomposition electrocatalysts. Introduction: Haptoglobin (Hp) genotypes were reported as an independent risk factor for metabolic diseases. This study aimed to investigate the association between Hp gene polymorphism and the severity of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).Methods: A total of 441 subjects (NAFLD group, n = 272; healthy control, n = 169) were recruited, and their clinical biochemical parameters were measured in all subjects. Haptoglobin genotyping was performed using genomic DNA extracted from peripheral blood leukocytes. Among the NAFLD group, 107 patients underwent liver biopsy, and histology was evaluated by a pathologist on the basis of the CRN scoring system.Results: NAFLD patients had much lower frequency of Hp 1-1 genotype and higher frequency of Hp 2-2 than healthy controls (0.4% vs 9.5%, 55.8% vs 47.9%, P < 0.001). NAFLD patients with Hp 2-2 genotype had much higher levels of body mass index (BMI), total cholesterol (TC), liver enzymes, ferritin, and controlled attenuation parameter (CAP) values than non-Hp 2-2 genotype (P < 0.05). In histology, patients with nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) had higher frequency of Hp 2-2 genotype than non-NASH patients (71.3% vs 22.2%, P < 0.001); patients with significant fibrosis had higher frequency of Hp 2-2 genotype (78.3% vs 54.8%, P < 0.05) than no/mild fibrosis patients. NAFLD patients with Hp 2-2 genotype had higher proportion with higher steatosis scores, lobular inflammation scores, ballooning scores, NAFLD activity scores (NAS), and fibrosis stages (P < 0.05 for all) than Hp 2-2 groups. Furthermore, Hp 2-2 genotype was independently associated with NASH (OR = 5.985, P < 0.05) and significant fibrosis (OR = 6.584, P < 0.05).Conclusions: Hp 2-2 genotype is closely associated with the severity of NAFLD. In this paper, new composite nanomaterials by encapsulating Schiff base molecules with hydrophilic spacers into sulfonate groups charged polystyrene beads (PS) have been prepared. The obtained composite adsorbent, Schiff base-based polystyrene nanocomposites (PS-GN1), demonstrated more preferable Cu(II) ion removal capacity in the presence of Ca2+ co-ions in solutions. And the obtained PS-GN1 composites with inner well-dispersed Schiff base molecules demonstrated much faster breakthrough for Cu(II) ion removal than PS beads mainly due to the electrostatic forces and coordinating reaction with Cu(II) ion. The design and self-assembly of graphene oxide (GO)-based composite membranes have attracted enormous attention due to their wide application in nanomaterial and environmental fields. In this work, we have successfully developed a strategy to fabricate new composite membranes based on poly(vinyl alcohol)/poly(acrylic acid)/carboxyl-functionalized graphene oxide modified with silver nanoparticles (PVA/PAA/GO-COOH@AgNPs), which were prepared via thermal treatment and the electrospinning technique. Due to the strong π-π forces and strong electrostatic interactions of GO--COOH sheets, the prepared composite membranes and their lager surface areas were modified by scores of AgNPs, which demonstrated that a high-efficiency photocatalyst removed the organic dyes from the aqueous solutions. The prepared PVA/PAA/GO-COOH@AgNPs nanocomposite membranes showed a remarkable photocatalytic capacity in the catalytic degradation of the methylene blue dye solutions. Diabetes is caused by the lack of release or action of insulin. Some foods and supplements can compensate for this deficiency; thus, they can aid in the prevention or treatment of diabetes. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of Cyclocarya paliurus extract (CPE) on insulin signaling and its capacity to correct hyperglycemia in the absence of insulin. To investigate the hypoglycemic effects of CPE, C2C12 cells were exposed to CPE (50 and 100 μg/mL). CPE promoted 2-(N-(7-Nitrobenz-2-oxa-1,3-diazol-4-yl)Amino)-2-Deoxyglucose (2NBDG) uptake into the cells via translocation of glucose transporter 4 (Glut4) to the plasma membrane. In addition, CPE enhanced tyrosine phosphorylation of insulin receptor substrate and activated phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase and protein kinase B (Akt) via sirtuin1 in C2C12 cells. Moreover, we found that oral administration of CPE (1 g/kg) to streptozotocin-induced hyperglycemic mice produced a progressive decrease in plasma glucose levels at 1 h after single dosing. At that point, CPE significantly increased the expression of skeletal muscle membrane Glut4 and enhanced the phosphorylation of Akt. In this paper, new two-component organogels via hexafluoropropane amino derivative and acids with different molecular skeletons were designed and prepared. Their gelation behaviors in some solvents were tested and investigated as new two-component organic gelators. The obtained experimental data demonstrated that the solvents and molecular skeletons played a crucial role in regulating the gelation behaviors and fabrication of nanostructures. Suitable solvents seemed favorable for the formation of supramolecular gels due to cooperation of multi-intermolecular weak forces. The effective synthesis and self-assembly of graphene oxide (GO) nanocomposites are of key importance for a broad range of nanomaterial applications. In this work, a one-step chemical strategy is presented to synthesize stable GO-polymer Langmuir composite films by interfacial thiol-ene photopolymerization at room temperature, without use of any crosslinking agents and stabilizing agents. It is discovered that photopolymerization reaction between thiol groups modified GO sheets and ene in polymer molecules is critically responsible for the formation of the composite Langmuir films. The film formed by Langmuir assembly of such GO-polymer composite films shows potential to improve the mechanical and chemical properties and promotes the design of various GO-based nanocomposites. Increased energy intake and reduced physical activity can lead to obesity, diabetes and metabolic syndrome. Transcriptional modulation of metabolic networks has become a focus of current drug discovery research into the prevention and treatment of metabolic disorders associated with energy surplus and obesity. Tang-Nai-Kang (TNK), a mixture of five herbal plant extracts, has been shown to improve abnormal glucose metabolism in patients with pre-diabetes. Here, we report the metabolic phenotype of SHR.Cg-Leprcp/NDmcr (SHR/cp) rats treated with TNK. Pre-diabetic SHR/cp rats were randomly divided into control, TNK low-dose (1.67 g/kg) and TNK high-dose (3.24 g/kg) groups. After high-dose treatment for 2 weeks, the serum triglycerides and free fatty acids in SHR/cp rats were markedly reduced compared to controls. After 3 weeks of administration, the high dose of TNK significantly reduced the body weight and fat mass of SHR/cp rats without affecting food consumption. Serum fasting glucose and insulin levels in the TNK-treated groups decreased after 6 weeks of treatment. Furthermore, TNK-treated rats exhibited obvious improvements in glucose intolerance and insulin resistance. The improved glucose metabolism may be caused by the substantial reduction in serum lipids and body weight observed in SHR/cp rats starting at 3 weeks of TNK treatment. The mRNA expression of NAD+-dependent deacetylase sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) and genes related to fatty acid oxidation was markedly up-regulated in the muscle, liver and adipose tissue after TNK treatment. Furthermore, TNK promoted the deacetylation of two well-established SIRT1 targets, PPARγ coactivator 1α (PGC1α) and forkhead transcription factor 1 (FOXO1), and induced the phosphorylation of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC) in different tissues. These observations suggested that TNK may be an alternative treatment for pre-diabetes and metabolic syndrome by inducing a gene expression switch toward fat oxidation through the activation of SIRT1 and AMPK signaling. Self-assembly of hierarchical graphene oxide (GO)-based nanomaterials with novel functions has received a great deal of attentions. In this study, nanostructured organogels based on cationic amphiphile-GO composites were prepared. The gelation behaviors of amphiphile-GO composites in organic solvents can be regulated by changing the headgroups of amphiphiles. Ammonium substituted headgroup in molecular structures in present self-assembled composites is more favorable for the gelation in comparison to pyridinium headgroup. A possible mechanism for headgroup effects on self-assembly and as-prepared nanostructures is proposed. Background: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) regulate a lot of physiological and pathological processes, including myocardial ischemia/reperfusion. Recent studies reported that knockdown of miR-92a could attenuate ischemia/reperfusion-induced myocardial injury. In the present study, we examined the potential anti-apoptotic effects of miR-92a in a rat myocardiocyte cell line, and the possible role of Smad7 in such actions. Methodology and Results: In a preliminary bioinformatic analysis, we identified SMAD family member 7 (Smad7) as a potential target for miR-92a. A luciferase reporter assay indeed demonstrated that miR-92a could inhibit Smad7 expression. Myocardial ischemia/reperfusion was simulated in rat H9c2 cells with 24-h hypoxia followed by 12-h reoxygenation. Prior to hypoxia/reoxygenation, cells were transfected by miR-92a inhibitor. In some experiments, cells were co-transfected with siRNA-Smad7. The miR-92a inhibitor dramatically reduced the release of lactate dehydrogenase and malonaldehyde, and attenuated cardiomyocyte apoptosis. The miR-92a inhibitor increased SMAD7 protein level and decreased nuclear NF-κB p65 protein. Effects of the miR-92a inhibitor were attenuated by co-transfection with siRNA-Smad7. In this paper the gelation behaviors of binary fatty acids with different length of alkyl chains and glutamic acid amino derivative in various organic solvents were designed and investigated. Their gelation behaviors in 20 solvents were tested as new binary organic gelators. The results showed that the length of alkyl chains has played a crucial role in the gelation behavior of all gelator mixtures in various organic solvents. Longer alkyl chains in molecular skeletons in present gelators are favorable for the gelation of organic solvents. Morphological studies revealed that the gelator molecules self-assemble into different aggregates, such as lamella, rod, belt, and fiber with change of solvents. Spectral studies indicated that there existed different H-bond formation and hydrophobic force, depending on imide segment and alkyl substituent chains in molecular skeletons. In addition, the used solvents had great effect on the assembly modes and stacking units of these binary gelators. In this article, gold nanoparticles were synthesized by two bolaform cholesteryl imide derivatives with different lengths of ethyleneamine spacers at a liquid-liquid interface. By stirring the aqueous solution containingions with the chloroform solution of bolaform amphiphile,ions were transferred into the organic phase and reduced to gold nanoparticles. Spectral and morphological measurements indicated that both bolaform amphiphiles could serve as both capping and reducing agents. Different gold nanostructures could be obtained depending on the different spacers and the molar ratios of amphiphile toions. The photocatalytic properties of as-made gold nanoparticles on the degradation of methyl orange indicated that the spacers in the amphiphiles indeed played an important role in changing the sizes of as-made gold nanoparticles and subsequently regulating their catalytic behaviors. Four achiral Cu(II)-coordinated Schiff bases complexes containing aromatic structures were synthesized and their supramolecular assemblies at the air/water interface were investigated. All the compounds could be spread on water surface although they have no alkyl chains. The Schiff base complex molecules with naphthyl groups tended to form J-aggregate in the Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films transferred from water surface. By investigation of atomic force microscopy, a multilayer film or three-dimensional structures were observed. It was interesting to note that the LB films of achiral compound Cu-NA with naphthyl segment and without methyl groups transferred from water surface showed chirality. The supramolecular chirality in the present LB films was suggested to be due to a cooperative stereoregular π-π stacking of the functional groups in a helical sense. Two bola form Schiff bases derivatives with different substituted head groups have been designed and their interfacial phase behaviors and coordination with Cu(II) ions were investigated. It has been found that while one molecule with benzene headgroup formed dotted aggregations at the air/water interface, another with naphthyl moiety as head group formed crystalline multilayer films on water surface. When on the sub phase containing Cu(II) ions, both of the Schiff bases can coordinate with Cu(II) in situ in the spreading films with the obvious conformational change of alkyl chains. The in situ Cu(II)-coordinated films could be transferred onto solid substrates and subsequently characterized by various spectroscopic methods such as UV-vis and Fourier transform infrared spectra as well as the morphological character with atomic force microscopy measurement. In comparison, the ex situ coordination process at the liquid/solid interface have also been investigated by continuous spectral measurement. Depending on the different head groups, these amphiphiles showed different aggregation behaviors in the Langmuir-Blodgett films. Particularly, during the coordination process of ligand with Cu(II) ions in organized molecular films, great conformational change of the alkyl chains was observed. With the rapid development of industry, the problem of environmental pollution has become increasingly prominent. Exploring and preparing green, efficient, and low cost catalysts has become the key challenge for scientists. However, some conventional preparation methods are limited by conditions, such as cumbersome operation, high energy consumption, and high pollution. Here, a simple and efficient seed-mediated method was designed and proposed to synthesize a highly efficient bimetallic catalyst for catalyzing nitro compounds. A Pd-Cu bimetallic composite (BCM) can be prepared by synthesizing the original seed crystal of precious metal palladium, then growing the mature nanocrystalline palladium and supporting the transition metal copper. Importantly, after eight consecutive catalytic cycles, the conversion of the catalyzed 2-NA was 84%, while the conversion of the catalyzed 4-NP was still 72%. And the catalytic first order rates of 2-NA and 4-NP constants were 0.015 s−1, and 0.069 s−1, respectively. Therefore, current research of nanocomposites catalyst showed great significance for serious environmental pollution problems and the protection of living environment, providing a new idea for the preparation of new bimetallic catalytic materials. The construction of heterojunctions provides a promising strategy to improve photocatalytic hydrogen evolution. However, how to fabricate a nanoscale TiO2/g-C3N4 heterostructure and hinder the aggregation of bulk g-C3N4 using simple methods remains a challenge. In this work, we use a simple in situ construction method to design a heterojunction model based on molecular self-assembly, which uses a small molecule matrix for self-integration, including coordination donors (AgNO3), inorganic titanium source (Ti(SO4)2) and g-C3N4 precursor (melamine). The self-assembled porous g-C3N4 nanotube can hamper carrier aggregation and it provides numerous catalytic active sites, mainly via the coordination of Ag+ ions. Meanwhile, the TiO2 NPs are easily mineralized on the nanotube template in dispersive distribution to form a heterostructure via an N–Ti bond of protonation, which contributes to shortening the interfacial carrier transport, resulting in enhanced electron-hole pairs separation. Originating from all of the above synergistic effects, the obtained Ag/TiO2/g-C3N4 heterogenous photocatalysts exhibit an enhanced H2 evolution rate with excellent sustainability 20.6-fold-over pure g-C3N4. Our report provides a feasible and simple strategy to fabricate a nanoscale heterojunction incorporating g-C3N4, and has great potential in environmental protection and water splitting. Nano-sized palladium nanoparticles showed high catalytic activity with severe limitations in catalytic field due to the tendency to aggregate. A solid substrate with large specific surface area is an ideal carrier for palladium nanoparticles. In present work, polyethyleneimine/polycaprolactone/Pd nanoparticles (PEI/PCL@PdNPs) composite catalysts were successfully designed and prepared by electrospinning and reduction methods using PEI/PCL elexctrospun fiber as carrier. The added PEI component effectively regulated the microscopic morphology of the PEI/PCL fibers, following a large number of pit structures which increased the specific surface area of the electrospun fibers and provided active sites for loading of the palladium particles. The obtained PEI/PCL@PdNPs catalysts for reductions of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) and 2-nitroaniline (2-NA) exhibited extremely efficient, stable, and reusable catalytic performance. It was worth mentioning that the reaction rate constant of catalytic reduction of 4-NP was as high as 0.16597 s−1. The effective synthesis and self-assembly of nanocomposites were of key importance for a broad range of nanomaterial applications. In this work, new carbon nanotube (CNT)-Cu2O nanocomposites were successfully synthesized via a facile approach. CNT was selected as the anchoring substrate to load Cu2O nanoparticles to prepare composite catalysts with well stability and good reusability. It is discovered that the prepared CNT-Cu2O nanocomposite materials could be effectively controlled via regulating preparation temperature and time without the use of any stabilizing agents.
