- Abstract
The migration of Central Americans to the United States has become a focal point of media and policy debates in recent years. Amid this discourse, there is a notable lack of understanding regarding the arduous journeys undertaken by migrants before they reach the US border. In response to this gap, our project seeks to challenge prevailing media narratives about Central American migrants, drawing inspiration from critical research on race and migration. Conceived as a mobile application, website, and installation, the Migrant Steps Project connects the data produced by users' fitness tracking devices to narratives about migration between Central America and North America.
