Energy supply chain resilience and sustainability are essential for dependable, ecologically responsible energy availability, reducing disruptions, and creating a sustainable future. In this regard, this study explores the resilience and sustainability of a single energy supply chain through two distinct scenarios. The focus is on a manufacturer capable of sourcing products from renewable and non-renewable power plants. Although the renewable power plant is the preferred clean option, disruptions may occur. On the other hand, the fossil fuel power plant offers reliability at the cost of environmental impact. The manufacturer employs two sourcing strategies based on disruption probabilities: single sourcing from just the renewable power plant and dual sourcing from fossil and renewable power plants. In the second scenario, a collaboration between the power plants is introduced. If a disruption occurs at the renewable power plant, it orders the fossil fuel power plant to generate electricity on its behalf. Using a game-theoretic approach, the research examines the effects of dual-sourcing techniques, and the efficacy of cooperation in minimising disruptions. It also examines the trade-offs between energy supply chain resilience and environmental sustainability. Despite the benefits associated with interorganizational collaborations, they often fail to meet partnering firms' expectations. A common issue is competitive tension between partners. Yet, competitive tension is a well-known issue in collaboration, such that partners should be able to set expectations and manage it accordingly. Why, then, does competitive tension often derail collaborations? We suggest that whether partners perceive each other as competitors is a key but understudied aspect of how competition shapes collaboration. We hypothesize that misaligned perception —one firm perceiving the other as a competitor but not vice versa—leads to misplaced expectations about partner behavior and collaboration performance and subsequent failure to meet those expectations. We test our theory in the U.S. software industry and find that collaborations characterized by misaligned perception are less likely to be renewed, even after controlling for partner quality and market overlap (i.e., objective competitive tension). Our examination of the social structure surrounding collaborations illustrates how the perceptions of third parties can moderate the effect of misaligned perception. We examine mechanisms and find that misalignment is linked to litigation between partners and lower collaboration performance. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore blind and visually impaired students' opinions on ways to improve physical education. Method: Twenty-two blind and visually impaired youth (age 12–17 years) completed one-to-one interviews. Three themes were constructed using a reflexive thematic analysis approach. Findings: The first theme depicted participants' views that physical education was a break during the day that did not have educational benefits. In the second theme, the participants highlighted communication and collaboration as important elements that could improve their experiences. The final theme centered on the nonexistent, insufficient, or demoralizing nature of seldom existing accommodations. Discussion: Blind and visually impaired students noted aspects of curriculum content, communication, and accommodations in physical education that may be changed to enhance their experiences, which largely centered on their physical educators' behaviors. Lot streaming technology enables continuous overlapping operations, which is of great significance in shortening production cycles, reducing unnecessary waiting time, and increasing production capacity. However, the capacity constraint of batch processing machines may lead to inevitable variations in sublots. Therefore, the key focus of our research is to control variations of sublot for maximising benefits. In view of this, we investigate a hybrid flowshop scheduling problem (HFSP) with batch processing machines and variable sublots (HFSP-BVS) integrating sequence-dependent setup times and transportation times. To address HFSP-BVS, a MILP model is first established, and a novel collaborative iterative greedy (NCIG) algorithm is proposed to optimise the cumulative payoffs associated with delivery dates. In NCIG, a collaborative initialisation method by extracting good information from an archive is proposed, and a specific destruction-reconfiguration strategy is designed to control the variations of sublots in the batch processing stage. Furthermore, a dynamic acceptance criterion is designed to balance the algorithm's exploitation and exploration capabilities. Lastly, we conduct comparisons between the NCIG algorithm and five other metaheuristic algorithms on 100 test instances. The results show that NCIG outperforms them by 1.89% and 61.42% on average in terms of the total penalty and RPI values, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Achieving sustainability transitions requires substantial policy changes, often driven by coalitions of actors advocating for institutional change and transformative agendas. While the transitions literature highlights the importance of coalition coordination, the underlying processes remain insufficiently understood. This study explores the Advocacy Coalition Framework (ACF) to derive insights into the coordination and dynamics of advocacy coalitions relevant to sustainability transitions. Methods: A systematic review of ACF literature was conducted, encompassing an initial corpus of over 700 articles and refining it to a final set of 45 documents. These documents were analyzed using qualitative coding to identify key factors influencing coalition coordination and to conceptualize coalition dynamics across the phases of sustainability transitions. Results: The review identifies four categories of factors shaping coalition coordination: prerequisites for coordination, reasons to coordinate, instrumental factors that influence coordination, and internal organization of coalitions. Additionally, it outlines how coordination patterns evolve across four sustainability transition phases, leading to the development of a typology that integrates dynamics within coalitions and across coalitions with two transition pathways: technological substitution and reconfiguration. Discussion: This study advances the understanding of the political processes underpinning sustainability transitions by integrating ACF insights into transition studies. It underscores the importance of belief systems, resource access, and trust in fostering effective coalition coordination. During collaborative problem solving, higher education students experience various challenges like communication and coordination issues. Moreover, they often report feeling unprepared to work in collaborative environments. Hence, despite the benefits of learning and working together, some groups fail to function, resulting in poor performance, low learning gains and dissatisfaction among group members. The current study investigates the potential of group reflexivity interventions (i.e., debriefings) as a means to foster students' collaboration, performance and learning gain. Using a pretest–posttest design, 38 higher education students worked together in 14 teams to solve a collaborative problem-solving task in a hackathon-like setting. At the midpoint of the teams' collaboration, they conducted either a debriefing (experimental condition) or a filler task (control condition). Quantitative (e.g., questionnaires) and qualitative data (e.g., video recordings) were collected and evaluated. Statistical analyses revealed beneficial effects for collaboration, but not for performance and learning gain. Observing the teams during the debriefings provided further insights into students' joint reflection processes. The findings emphasize the potential of self-led debriefings in fostering students' collaboration. Our study helps in understanding the linkage between debriefing and collaboration more precisely. Federated learning is a distributed machine learning paradigm. Traditional federated learning performs well on the premise that all clients have the same learning ability or similar learning tasks. However, resource and data heterogeneity are inevitable among clients in real-world scenarios, leading to the situation that existing federated learning mechanisms cannot achieve high accuracy in short response time. In this study, an effective federated learning framework with cross-resource client collaboration, termed CEFL, is proposed to coordinate clients with different capacities to help each other, efficiently and adequately reflecting collective intelligence. Clients are categorized into different clusters based on their computational resources in the hierarchical framework. Resource-rich clusters use their knowledge to assist resource-limited clusters converge rapidly. Once resource-limited clusters have the ability to mentor others, resource-rich clusters learn from the resource-limited clusters in their favor to improve their own effectiveness. A cloud server provides tailored assistance to each cluster with a personalized model through an adaptive multi-similarity metric, in order for each cluster to learn the most useful knowledge. The experiments fully demonstrate that the proposed method not only has superior accuracy with significantly reduced latency but also improves the convergence rate compared to other state-of-the-art federated learning methods in addressing the problem of resource and data heterogeneity. Multi-stakeholder forums (MSFs) are crucial for managing complex decision-making; yet ways for evaluating engagement, especially for Indigenous peoples, remain ambiguous. This study examines the Honduran Mosquitia, where conflict over the illegal occupation of Indigenous lands led to the creation and eventual dissolution of an MSF. It questions whether the continuity of formal dialogue structures signifies genuine engagement or if disruption might better indicate it. The study applies the lens of boundary objects—concepts or devices that enable collaboration among actors with differing agendas—to assess engagement. In Mosquitia, territorial governance served as a boundary object, fostering the establishment of an MSF. Government, donor, and Indigenous stakeholders had their distinct interests in supporting territorial governance. Indigenous stakeholders exited the MSF when their aims for securing land tenure were unmet, turning to civil disobedience to assert territorial governance. The MSF's dissolution prevented the co-optation of territorial governance by government and donors, remaining a contentious term that more accurately reflected the tensions among stakeholders. Trust is important for collaboration. In hybrid teams of humans and robots, trust enables smooth collaboration and reduces risks. Just as collaboration between humans and robots differs from interpersonal collaboration, so does the nature of trust in human-robot interaction (HRI). Therefore, further investigations on trust formation and dissolution in HRI, factors affecting it, and means for keeping trust on an appropriate level are needed. However, our knowledge of interpersonal trust and trust in autonomous agents cannot be transferred directly to HRI. In this paper, we present a study with 32 participants on trust formation and dissolution as well as forecasting to influence trust in an industry robot. Results show differences in dynamics and factors of trust formation and dissolution. Additionally, we find that the effect of forecasting on trust depends on task success. Collaboration between universities and schools has been emphasised by both governments and within educational development research in the Nordic countries. However, educational research has tended to focus on the practitioners' perspectives and experiences, i.e., researchers and teachers. Our intention is to contribute to the field with research from another perspective; that of organising for collaboration. This is done by focusing on the experiences of university representatives responsible for the organisation of collaboration within a Swedish nation-wide initiative, the ULF project. Our theoretical framework draws on the literature of partial organisation. The results indicate that the different approaches and solutions used by universities could not only potentially strengthen schools' opportunities to participate in educational collaboration with universities but also lead to different opportunities, reinforcing previously existing differences between school organisers. Intuitively, personality traits may shape friendships differently from academic connections, potentially influencing social support development. Yet, this remains understudied, while it is crucial for student's wellbeing. Therefore, this study investigates how the personality traits of the Five-Factor Model interact with the role friendships and preferred collaboration relationships. In a sample of 95 university students, socio-centric data were collected with questionnaires on personality traits and longitudinally on networks of friendship and preferences for collaboration networks. Utilizing stochastic actor-oriented models in RSiena, we showed that students more open to new experiences established more friendships, preferred more collaborations with their peers, and were also more popular in both networks than students less open-to-new-experiences. Students scoring higher on agreeableness were less likely to connect to their peers in both networks, whereas higher-achieving students were more likely to establish peer relationships in both networks. Furthermore, friends were preferred for collaboration (and vice versa), indicating an overlap. The battle against cancer remains a top priority for society, with an urgent need to develop therapies capable of targeting challenging tumours while preserving patient's quality of life. Hadron Therapy (HT), which employs accelerated beams of protons, carbon ions, and other charged particles, represents a significant frontier in cancer treatment. This modality offers superior precision and efficacy compared to conventional methods, delivering therapeutic the dose directly to tumours while sparing healthy tissue. Even though 350,000 patients have already been treated worldwide with protons and 50,000 with carbon ions, HT is still a relatively young field and more research as well as novel, cost-effective and compact accelerator technologies are needed to make this treatment more readily available globally. Interestingly the very first patient was irradiated with protons in September 1954, the same month and year CERN was founded. Both of these endeavours are embedded in cutting edge technologies and multidisciplinary collaboration. HT is finally gaining ground and, even after 70 years, the particle therapy field continues innovating and improving for the benefits of patients globally. Developing technologies that are both affordable and easy to use is key and would allow access to more patients. Advances in accelerator-driven Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT), image-guided hadron beams delivery, clinical trials and immunotherapy, together with the recent interest and advances in FLASH therapy, which is currently an experimental treatment modality that involves ultrahigh-dose rate delivery, are just a few examples of innovation that may eventually help to provide access to a larger number of patients. In this contribution, we theorize generativity as a heuristic for impact-driven management scholars seeking to address grand challenges through research. We use generativity to connote the engagement of diverse actors in pluralistic inquiry to create conditions for future flourishing. Our theorization applies a pragmatist worldview and builds on insights from the multidisciplinary literature on generativity to envisage researchers as agents of care, collective learning, and transformative change. We synthesize four tenets for researchers seeking both academic and real-world impact. These tenets can support researchers addressing grand challenges by guiding their efforts to diversify inputs, distribute agency, conduct experiments, and pursue prospective impacts. We illustrate generativity in action by drawing on our experience in a transdisciplinary research project on small- and medium-sized enterprises taking climate action in Canada. We show how the four tenets foster generativity to promote an inclusive understanding of grand challenges and a bias toward action, thereby providing an optimistic stance toward addressing issues of social concern. In seeking concrete and meaningful practical impact on addressing grand challenges, some management scholars have demonstrated the possibility of researchers convening multi-stakeholder dialogue. But this has not been explored in much detail, and furthermore scholars have pointed to important constraints and tensions that may discourage such engagement. We thus ask, what are the affordances and tensions associated with researchers convening multi-stakeholder dialogue processes? We address this question by critically reflecting on our roles and experiences as we convened a 15-year dialogue initiative focused on addressing hunger and malnutrition in South Africa. As affordances, we identify researchers' convening power as especially salient in the context of the evaluative and contested nature of grand challenges, and we highlight researcher-convenors' staying power as important for bridging periods of resource scarcity between propaedeutic and institutionally generative dialogue processes. We also identify convening tensions based on opposing expectations regarding our role as convenors and regarding our orientation towards social change, yet these tensions may be ameliorated as part of a conceptual and embodied shift from shallow to deep dialogue. This article explores the often overlooked role of professional songwriters in popular music, who occupy the spectrum between craftspeople and artists. Drawing on seventeen episodes of the Sodajerker podcast featuring songwriters who write for and with popular artists, we outline the role of professional songwriters in the popular music industry and how collaboration between songwriters and artists shapes and refines songs. On this basis, we propose a five-tiered spectrum of artist-songwriter involvement, ranging from independent songwriting by professionals without a specific artist brief to scenarios where artists are mostly self-sufficient but receive musical or psychological support from co-writers as needed. The right of children to express their views on matters concerning them is a core principle of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, as defined in Article 12. However, research shows that interventions provided by Swedish child and family welfare services are planned and based on parents' perspectives even though research suggests that child participation results in welfare service provision that is better matched to the children's needs. The aim of this study is to explore how child participation is constructed in interventions provided by Swedish child and family welfare services and to study which elements are of importance to this process. The article is based on a qualitative interview study with 14 family social workers and 11 children aged 7–16 with experience of family interventions provided by the child and family welfare services. The results suggest that child participation is a collaborative process in which both the child and the FSW have an active role to play. Participation is constructed through a series of seemingly small, everyday actions in the meeting between the child and the FSW. By actively asking questions and allowing the child to practice participation and influence the process, the FSW can, together with the child, work towards increased child participation in interventions. Intensifying climate change and its impact on urban areas has led to the emergence of the climate urbanism model that advocates action at the intersection of urban development and climate change. The model has presented itself varyingly across geographies. While offering an opportunity for inclusionary development in some, in others it has exacerbated social injustice. In India, it echoes the flawed top-down, largely context-blind approach to urban planning, thus exacerbating urbanisation induced exclusions. Drawing on our involvement in the evolution of Community-based Climate Action Plans in Bhopal, India, the paper advocates for co-production as a pathway to inclusive climate urbanism. Given the ability of co-production to democratically improve services for and agency of the marginalised, the paper evidences the efficacy of co-production on (a) an equal acknowledgement of the strengths and limitations of the co-production partners, thereby facilitating negotiations on how and who would bridge these limitations; (b) negotiations that allow for the resolution of challenges and embedded power hierarchies between stakeholders; (c) the integration of climate and development actions as against a mere superimposition of the former onto development agendas; and; (d) the crucial role of decentralized local area engagement, one that affords the marginalized an agency to plan for themselves. This scoping review aims to synthesise what is known about professional collaboration among schools, healthcare and social care for children with neurodevelopmental disorders. Papers (N = 29; discussions, theoretical, empirical; 2003–2022) were selected in early 2023 from seven databases and supplemented by manual search. The analysis was conducted using qualitative content analysis. The results revealed the forms, underpinning factors and benefits of collaboration. Collaboration was seen as important in assessment and interventions, evaluation, support planning, co-therapy, service coordination and school transitions, and when carrying out these, teamwork and consultation were seen as essential. Collaborative competencies, shared understanding and dialogic interactions were suggested to promote collaboration. The main challenges were professional competition, time shortage, legal constraints and difficulty in accessing information. This review suggests that there is a vital need for functional, professional collaboration in supporting children with neurodevelopmental disorders. This necessitates systemic changes, such as restructured organisations, active parental involvement, effective and open communication and collaborative competencies among professionals. Shared appraisals and collaboration within couples play important roles in optimizing health. Less is known about concordance regarding collaboration, factors associated with concordance, and implications for health. Data from 2,761 couples from the Health and Retirement Study (2014/2016 and 2016/2018 waves) were examined to determine within-couple concordance in completion of two tasks (family decisions and medical forms). The majority of couples were concordant regarding who makes family decisions (69.7%) and who completes medical forms (64.4%); 62% agreed they make family decisions collaboratively versus 25.5% completing medical forms collaboratively. Concordance was significantly associated with greater marital support and longer marital duration. Concordance was not significantly associated with depressive symptoms 2 years later, but the link between concordance in making major family decisions and self-rated health differed by age and gender. Future research at the intersection of concordance and collaboration may shed important light on how older couples navigate tasks and decisions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article presents the design, goals, and evaluation of Enthralled following the 2022 playtesting in three undergraduate Liberal Arts core courses. Enthralled draws on ancient Greek myths and the classical tragedy Bacchae by Euripides. As an immersive pedagogical intervention, Enthralled promotes group collaboration and rewards consideration of diverse viewpoints and cultural values. Participants vote on the motivations of dramatic characters, which allows for a deeper understanding of their preconceptions and implicit biases and offers the opportunity for self-reflection and dialogue. The game toolkit includes an original deck of cards, a role-playing script, a character sheet, ballots, a hints-and-clues deck, instructions for players and moderators, and scoring materials. The third version of Enthralled exceeded our entertainment efficacy, playability, and usability goals and contributed positively to the learning outcomes of the courses. Collaboration remains a central aspect of contemporary work and a source of emergent barriers that hinder team success. Scholarship has identified the breadth of barriers teams can face when working together and recognizes barriers as interdependent. This paper builds on this scholarship to address the types of relationships barriers can have as they interact across levels of analysis to affect teams. We draw on qualitative interview data with scientific teams to explore relationships among barriers stemming from teams' internal processes and context. We identify common relationship patterns among barriers that can be used as a framework for analyzing complex, multi-level barrier systems affecting team outcomes. Our data highlight the importance of considering longitudinal, strategic support for targeting cross-barrier interactions when seeking to intervene in collaborations. The instructor-student collaborative partnership has potential to transform education from a traditional, instructor-directed teaching to an active student-centred learning. However, it is not easy to promote the instructor-student collaborative partnership in the Eastern education contexts like China, due to the didactic, instructor-directed, centrally-organised educational structure. The current research conducts a three-iterative action research to practice and investigate the instructor-student collaborative partnership in China's higher education. The instructor uses and modifies pedagogical strategies to foster the instructor-student collaborative partnership iteratively in three graduate-level courses. Furthermore, a qualitative research method is used to investigate the collaborative partnership across three courses. Results indicate a gradual development of the superficial, medium and high levels of the instructor-student collaborative partnership across three courses. Based on the results, this research provides conceptual, analytical and pedagogical implications that are beneficial to understand and foster the instructor-student collaborative partnership in higher education. Purpose: This research aims to define the novel attitude toward social responsibility phenomena from a multi-level governance perspective and, based on the Lithuanian case, to illustrate the territorial perspective concerning the needs and challenges for future responsible governance in rural areas. Design/methodology/approach: This research is organized according to qualitative research principles. The seven-step Delphi technique was applied to reach the aim. The expert selection was done using the two criteria, based on the Quadruple Helix approach (Carayannis & Rakhmatullin, 2014; González-Martinez et al., 2023) and the Stakeholder Salience model (Mitchell et al., 2017). The complementary expertise was accumulated by involving experts from the ministry (government helix) as holding the highest level of legitimacy in the field of building responsible governance in rural areas; business helix representatives hold high urgency attributes; power attributes varied among the experts in different helixes. In total, 15 experts were selected to implement the necessary Delphi steps, where experts' involvement is relevant. The research work lasted for four months, starting from December 2022, and finalizing in March 2023. Technical support and funding for this research were organized in parallel with part of the activities of the Horizon 2020 programme's project "SHERPA – Sustainable Hub to Engage in Rural Policies with Actors" (2019–2023). Findings: The number of recently observed issues while realizing the increasingly complicated application of multi-level governance mechanisms, both scientific discussions and practical implementation evidence call for a novel attitude in governance. In particular areas, where imperfections are very sensitive and most evident, scientific elaborations are more demanded from the very top, i.e. from the EU. Throughout recent years, the European Commission started employing cocreative consortiums (e.g. SHERPA), which, as found much earlier in scientific discourse, represent the joint multi-level power, involving the most powerful, urgent and legitimate stakeholders, representing the four helixes – government, society, business and academia, in building innovative cocreative and collaborative policy formation and implementation practices in multi-level governance. However, the core component that might add to future responsible governance is the social responsibility phenomenon. In conjunction, the multi-level governance and social responsibility paradigms might propose the desired novel responsible governance concept, which would work for more responsible policy formation and implementation, especially considering the interests of local communities. Research limitations/implications: This paper presents empirical findings, based on limited qualitative data, collected in one EU new member state, i.e. Lithuania. International comparative perspectives are given referring to other related papers. Research findings are promising for further research in the field of novel responsible multi-level governance framework by using the Quadruple Helix stakeholder approach to foster collaboration for innovation in socially responsible governance both from theoretical and empirical points of view. Practical implications: The developed theoretical framework and described methodological approach might be applied to practitioners in any area policy formation process. The Quadruple Helix approach might be used in defining the needs and challenges of any unit of analysis, either a small canton or a metropolitan city. The study suggests a meaningful departing point starting with expert views on better and more responsible governance practices. The study envisages the ways and manners to define the best value for stakeholders that is the general public or citizens of a rural setting, and this could be extended to other levels of government or state. Social implications: The research takes into account the public interest from a very broad point of view – how to develop a political course for rural regions in a socially responsible way by using already established innovative methodology. Originality/value: The article proposes using the novel combination of the three-pillar and stakeholder perspective of CSR, fulfilled by the original Quadruple Helix innovation approach, for establishing proactive stakeholder needs-based responsible multi-level governance practices, enabling the socially responsible policy formation and implementation mechanisms. Internationally, it is widely acknowledged that many generalist primary teachers (GPTs) enter the teaching profession with a paucity of arts practice and pedagogic skills. Many perceive a lack of confidence, competence, and community to change this, particularly in regional and isolated teaching contexts. As a means to address this, this article considers the value of engaging in collaborative a/r/tography as a means of developing more creative ecological approaches to teacher professional development and learning. A multimodal storied assemblage of four primary teachers' experience of engaging in collaborative a/r/tography is explored, and through diffractive analysis, the authors surface the intra-acting affective agents that enable metho-pedagogic learning possibilities. Specific ways in which collaborative a/r/tography works to foster GPTs' curricula and metho-pedagogic sensibilities, as well as a sense of creative ecology, are addressed. Speculation as to the ways in which collaborative a/r/tography fosters GPTs "becoming ecological" in relational practices and processes of curriculum enactment and pedagogical engagement is offered thereby contributing to understandings of the generative capacity of a/r/tography as a framework for developing teacher agency and change. This paper describes and reflects upon the first author's journey from teacher to researcher, working with deafblind children and young people, and the research teams' development of person-centred research methods. Historically deafblind people, particularly children and young people, have rarely been included in participation action research, in part, due to perceived challenges around communication and access. This paper outlines work being undertaken as part of a PhD project that aims to improve academic and social outcomes for deafblind children and young people. It also outlines a novel methodological focus on accommodating the unique communication and access requirements for deafblind young people, to effectively facilitate engagement in participation action research, and ensure research methods are centred on them, using both established and novel research techniques. Progress to date is outlined, describing the reflexive approach used to collaborate with deafblind young people, to inform our practice, and meet the needs of deafblind children and young people. Based on our learning, we provide wider recommendations to make participation action research more accessible for participants with deaf blindness or sensory difficulties. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Drawing upon ongoing research exploring lived experiences of sensory overload, meltdown, and shutdown in autism as a framework, this article reflects on the challenges and benefits of employing participatory methods in doctoral research. In particular, the process of establishing and working with a Research Advisory Group to co-create a multi-stage research project is evaluated and reflected upon. Applying participatory approaches such as this to doctoral research elicits practical challenges beyond those associated with either participatory research or doctoral study alone. In particular, strategic project planning and time management is vital, given the often labour-intensive and time-consuming nature of participatory methods and the time constraints of doctoral research. Similarly, questions around collaborative design and co-creation must be addressed when balancing participatory engagement with the assessment-based requirements of doctoral study. Additional challenges also arise when considering the more specific application of participatory methods to research with marginalised or vulnerable groups, including the need to consciously and critically evaluate researcher positionality, as well as questions of how to meaningfully 'give voice' to communities while still producing high-quality and feasible academic research. However, despite these challenges, the benefits of employing participatory approaches within health and social care doctoral research cannot be overstated, given the capacity for such research to engage with, and respond to, community needs, while promoting positive real-world impact. As such, this article concludes by presenting reflective suggestions for how the use of participatory approaches might be further encouraged and facilitated within the context of PhD research. This introduction to the special issue stems from the assumption that the field of public management is the necessary, missing catalyst to make tangible progress towards social equity. We begin by outlining the concept of social equity and highlighting the value of improving the field's understanding of how we can use the foundations of public management to advance social equity principles, practices, and theories, across all forms of oppression. A brief overview of the papers in the special issue follows and we draw out key themes, which hopefully will inspire public management scholars to engage with social equity research. Teamwork and collaboration are twenty-first century skills valued by STEM employers for addressing the most urgent problems in society. To prepare undergraduate STEM students, they must graduate valuing teamwork and collaboration. The Integrated Concentration in STEM (iCons) program aims to meet this goal by utilizing interdisciplinary team-based learning to address complex real-world problems. In doing so, the program provides students with a learning experience that demonstrates the authentic value of teamwork and shows how collaboration can be useful for solving problems. The purpose of this study was to examine whether students who participated in iCons developed more positive values related to teamwork and collaboration than similar students who did not participate in the program. Framed by Expectancy Value Theory (EVT)—specifically the concept of utility value, which is how practically useful students find teams in helping them fulfill their objectives or to solve problems—we investigated the iCons program with a mixed methods design that analyzed survey and interview data from students. Overall, iCons had a positive effect on students' perceptions of the utility value of teamwork and collaboration. Qualitative results helped to explain these findings in more depth, including students' positive perceptions of the interdisciplinary design of the program. Findings suggest that more resources should be put into creating and expanding opportunities in STEM that utilize a combination of pedagogical strategies focused on team-based learning and an interdisciplinary design. This systematic literature review provides an overview of how higher education in engineering, in collaboration with industry, supports student transitions to work life. A qualitative content analysis of 36 articles published between 2013 and 2023 indicated that this collaboration provides numerous benefits for all stakeholders; however, challenges can impede or even halt those efforts. The reviewed articles address curricula, motivation, and professional aspects and demonstrate evidence of international research collaborations. Common collaboration patterns include problem-solving, product development, and assisting students in transitioning from academia to the professional sphere. While the benefits of collaboration are evident for all parties involved, challenges and hindering factors like time and resource constraints do exist. In the discussion, we introduce the six C's: key factors for successful collaboration between higher education and industry; namely, clarity, communication, commonality, commitment, continuity, and confidence. While team learning within engineering classrooms has been studied, minimal work has been done examining out-of-classroom collaboration to complete individual deliverables. However, such informal peer collaboration (IPC) is common among engineering undergraduates, and some evidence exists that low levels of IPC are associated with poorer learning outcomes. We aimed to explore beliefs, perceptions and actions toward IPC among engineering science instructors. We used a descriptive phenomenological approach to explore the instructors' experiences of IPC. Data from semi-structured interviews was analysed using inductive thematic analysis. Instructors identified positive (e.g. gaining confidence) and negative (e.g. overconfidence) outcomes of IPC. They believed that students used IPC for a range of needs and identified factors (e.g. language spoken) influencing IPC groupings. Most instructors only defined academic misconduct in syllabi, despite using implicit strategies (e.g. withholding solutions) to promote/inhibit IPC. Specific IPC policies were rarely connected to instructors' understanding of student motivations. Instructors view IPC as unavoidable and recognise that IPC may meet student needs while increasing or bypassing learning. Despite both using IPC as students and observing students now, instructors showed limited understanding of who participates. In 2014, the College of Health at the University of Utah hired a new dean, who was charged with increasing research productivity (e.g., extramural funding). This paper highlights several ways that the Department of Health and Kinesiology (more broadly the College of Health) leveraged resources through interdisciplinary partnerships to meet this challenge. More specifically, the paper highlights efforts to develop new research space, explore partnerships with other units and initiatives on campus to recruit and retain faculty, and use existing programming on campus to strengthen the research infrastructure. There is a long history of kinesiology scholars advocating for an inter-, cross- or transdisciplinary approach to the field. Despite these efforts, kinesiology research and curricula are primarily sub- and multidisciplinary in nature, with limited integration of subdisciplinary knowledge to drive interdisciplinary, evidence-based practice. Although the kinesiology advancements in knowledge creation and societal service are impressive, the dissonance created by our breadth, specialization, and inconsistent nomenclature contributes to a lack of visibility and appreciation in the world. There is opportunity for greater harmony and interdisciplinary skills for future kinesiology graduates based on several models advocated by scholars. Kinesiology faculty can renew curricula by modeling the interdisciplinary application of knowledge in capstone courses or discussing interdisciplinary evidence-based service during internships. Asthma continues to cause morbidity and mortality despite advances in treatment that include biologics targeting Type 2 inflammation. The International Collaborative Asthma Network (ICAN) forum was developed with the primary goal of promoting innovative, collaborative research that focuses on mechanisms and treatment for asthma that does not respond or that responds poorly to currently available treatments. The mission of ICAN is innovation, collaboration, translation, and increasing high quality research. At the second ICAN meeting, presenters covered a broad scope and depth of asthma-related topics in the categories of complex data, novel therapeutics and diagnostics, breath analysis and microbiome, disease mechanisms, systemic effects, and circadian rhythm. Key actionable needs and research topics were identified during the group discussions. The presentations and discussions that occurred at the second ICAN had an immediate impact on asthma research in the form of new collaborations and implementation of new research ideas and techniques. The forum also served to connect early-stage investigators with investigators who are well established, thereby fostering innovation, translation, and collaboration well into the future. A third ICAN meeting is planned for 2025 to further the innovations and collaborations that will translate into novel therapies and diagnostics to improve the lives of patients with asthma. Educational systems worldwide seek sustainable school improvement by fostering collaborative organizational routines that support teachers' practises and students' learning outcomes. This study examines how five Estonian schools perceive evidence-driven school improvement in a 3-year school-university partnership program. In each school, the principal and teachers collaborated with an external mentor. Supported by university experts, the school improvement teams worked on projects aimed at enhancing student learning in their schools and fostering a collaborative, evidence-driven school culture. Data was collected through focus group interviews with the school teams and analyzed using thematic content analysis. The findings reveal that schools view data as connected to accountability and decision-making, with considerably less emphasis on instructional improvement. School organizational and teacher-related factors, together with data overload, hindered systematic data use. Notably, the school improvement program's effectiveness was most evident in the final year, with the sustainability of improvement largely dependent on collaborative routines. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Strategies emphasizing animal-free innovation are imperative for the contemporary and future scientific research. They not only address important ethical concerns, but also should directly improve research accuracy and reliability through redirecting scientific inquiry toward more reliable and translatable methodologies. Promotion and encouragement for use of animal-free innovations among the next-generation of scientists, alongside knowledge acquisition and training in the increased capabilities of novel technologies, are fundamental for advancing science and the welfare of animals used for scientific purposes. The Dutch government has promoted initiatives such as Transitie Proefdiervrije Innovatie (TPI) to make the public aware of the current situation. However, the transition towards animal-free innovations will span over more than two generations. In this context, Young TPI emerged as the-first-of-its-kind network comprising young professionals and students dedicated to revolutionizing scientific practices by catalyzing the shift towards animal-free research. Grounded on three pillars - collaboration, awareness-raising, and networking - Young TPI has evolved into a premier youth network in the Netherlands. Boasting over 270 members spanning Dutch 49 institutions, including biotechnology startups and pharmaceutical companies and universities, Young TPI harnesses the diverse expertise of its members to propel a sustainable, future-proof transition and to promote a continuous dialogue with a wide range of stakeholders. This manuscript describes the conception, establishment, and progress of Young TPI from its start to present, detailing its strategy for communication, activities, and funding mechanisms, and ongoing endeavors to enlist new members and forge strategic alliances in pursuit of its mission. Involving people living with dementia in the development of research through PPIE is the gold standard for ethical research. Established PPIE groups have been set up throughout the UK to provide people with dementia opportunities to have their voice heard. However, accessing these groups as a doctoral researcher can be difficult, and little guidance is given on how to make the process successful. Additionally, many people living with dementia are unaware such groups exist, and thus don't benefit from getting involved. In response, this paper summarises the PPIE process taken to develop a piece of doctoral research. Uniquely, this project involved collaboration with an individual living with dementia who was previously unfamiliar with research practices, and their friend. In this paper we present our shared experiences of the PPIE process, the benefits we all received, and the challenges we encountered. We combined a practical PPIE framework with an appreciative research approach to reflect on concepts such as ethical dilemmas and how these impact on participation. We conclude by offering practical tips on how to create a meaningful PPIE process to encourage other doctoral researchers to collaborate with people living with dementia in their research. Plain English Summary: This paper is written by a researcher early in her career, a person living with dementia, and the person living with dementia's friend. Together, we created a research plan (often known as a protocol) that the researcher will use to conduct research with people living with dementia. We found working together to make this plan a very positive and empowering experience and wanted to share our experiences. This paper reports how we worked together to make the plan, the benefits we felt, and the challenges we faced. Background: It is pivotal to implement effective collaboration among professionals from different disciplines in the healthcare sector. As the complexity of patients' health needs grows, so does the importance of developing innovative and efficient models of patient care that rely on interprofessional collaborative teamwork. Interprofessional education (IPE) is a valuable approach that improves communication, collaboration, and ultimately safe patient outcomes in healthcare settings. Students studying medicine and pharmacy are among the healthcare professionals who could potentially benefit from IPE. Despite the existence of newly added undergraduate curricula for interprofessional communication and professionalism, active implementation to achieve the required competencies and skills is not yet widespread, particularly in developing countries. This article presents a successful implementation of simulation-based team-oriented learning sessions among pharmacy and medical students at Delta University for Science and Technology in Egypt. The purpose of the IPE activity was to train students to work collaboratively as members of an interprofessional healthcare team by simulating a real-life situation. Results: Student feedback was very positive with most pharmacy and medical students being satisfied with their IPE experience. Moreover, students' feedback emphasized the significance of IPE and a simulated team-based environment in improving communication skills and collaborative practice. Conclusion: The high level of student satisfaction with the IPE sessions, particularly regarding the clarity of training objectives and the interactive nature of the experience, suggests that simulation-based learning is an effective tool for developing key interprofessional collaboration skills among healthcare students. This highlights the potential of IPE to cultivate future healthcare professionals who excel in interprofessional collaboration, ultimately leading to improved patient care and outcomes. Overcoming barriers to implementing IPE in Egypt needs a multifaceted strategy and a comprehensive long-term follow-up plan is critical for evaluating the lasting effect of IPE on students' collaborative practices in real-life healthcare settings. Purpose: The Multicentre Acute ischemic stroke imaGIng and Clinical data (MAGIC) repository is a collaboration established in 2024 by seven stroke centres in Europe. MAGIC consolidates clinical and radiological data from acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients who underwent endovascular therapy, intravenous thrombolysis, a combination of both, or conservative management. Participants: All centres ensure accuracy and completeness of the data. Only patients who did not refuse use of their routine data collected during or after their hospital stay are included in the repository. Approvals or waivers are obtained from the responsible ethics committees before data exchange. A formal data transfer agreement (DTA) is signed by all contributing centres. The centres then share their data, and files are stored centrally on a safe server at the University Hospital Zurich. There, patient identifiers are removed and images are algorithmically de-faced. De-identified structured clinical data are connected to the imaging data by a new identifier. Data are made available to participating centres which have entered into a DTA for stroke research projects. Repository setup: Initially, MAGIC is set to comprise initial and first follow-up imaging of 2,500 AIS patients. Clinical data consist of a comprehensive set of patient characteristics and routine prehospital metrics, treatment and laboratory variables. Outlook: Our repository will support research by leveraging the entire range of routinely collected imaging and clinical data. This dataset reflects the current state of practice in stroke patient evaluation and management and will enable researchers to retrospectively study clinically relevant questions outside the scope of randomized controlled clinical trials. The challenge of high energy consumption and carbon emissions within China's construction industry has become increasingly urgent, as over 40% of buildings are still non-energy efficient. The multifaceted nature of systems involved in building retrofits results in a complex project, with barriers in both retrofit design and construction becoming increasingly evident. This research comprehensively assesses the common barriers in building retrofits and investigates the potential for integrating energy-efficient retrofits with information flow modeling from an interdisciplinary perspective. In order to pinpoint the main barriers hindering building retrofits, this study employs the bibliometric software VOSviewer. The analysis uncovers that the primary obstacles to energy-saving renovations are categorized into technical, economic, environmental, and other barriers. These barriers are characterized by a high degree of specialization, the inadequate integration of information, and limited collaboration among stakeholders. Subsequently, a qualitative literature review was conducted following the PRISMA methodology, which screened 40 key sources. The following conclusions were drawn: (1) The design of energy-saving renovation processes is impeded by the limited professional perspectives within the construction industry, which restricts the practical applicability; (2) Decision making for energy-saving renovations encounters notable professional barriers and suffers from inadequate information integration; (3) There is a lack of clarity regarding information needs during the implementation phase, and no effective platform exists for information coordination; (4) Risk analyses in complex energy-saving renovations largely depend on expert interviews, lacking robust scientific tools. These findings highlight that knowledge gaps and information asymmetry are the central challenges. To tackle these issues, this paper suggests the implementation of an information flow model that integrates the IDEF0 and DSM for building energy-saving retrofit projects. The IDEF0 model can clearly describe the interaction relationship of all expert information through functional decomposition, while the DSM can show the dependency relationship and information flow path among specialties through the matrix structure. This model is anticipated to enhance professional information integration and collaboration. Background: Healthcare professionals in the hospital setting frequently assume primary caregiving responsibilities, which often leads family members to perceive this as standard practice during hospitalization. This dynamic may create a gap between actual and desired levels of family involvement. The aim of this study is to explore the opinions of families about their involvement in care during the hospitalization of a relative. Methods: A sequential explanatory mixed-method study design was used, where quantitative data collection is followed by qualitative data collection for a deeper understanding of the quantitative findings. Data were collected between November 2023 and April 2024 across 15 wards in a university hospital in the north of the Netherlands. 153 family members of hospitalized patients completed the adapted Families' Importance in Nursing Care–Families' Opinions questionnaire, providing valuable quantitative data. Twenty-three of these family members were subsequently interviewed to gather qualitative insights. Data were analyzed sequentially, with the quantitative results guiding qualitative data collection. The two types of data were integrated to draw comprehensive conclusions about the significance of family involvement during hospitalization. The study adhered to the guidelines of the Good Reporting of A Mixed Method Study (GRAMMS). Results: The questionnaire scores indicate a high willingness for involvement in care during hospitalization. Subsequent in-depth interviews led to the development of a model demonstrating that this involvement is sequentially related to the themes of acknowledgement, alignment, and collaboration. Conclusions: Family members expressed a need to be acknowledged by healthcare professionals as partners in care. Role agreements and information sharing during hospital care should be aligned to achieve effective collaboration between family members and healthcare professionals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Supportive policy is an important component of a whole-systems approach to increasing physical activity and reducing inequalities. There is a growing body of literature surrounding the design and effectiveness of national policy approaches to physical activity, but evidence related to local-level approaches is lacking. The aim of this study was to examine 'what works', and identify factors underpinning change, focused on work to embed physical activity in local policy and practice in Bradford, UK. Methods: A mixed-methods case study approach involved collecting data from cross-sectoral stakeholders directly or indirectly engaged in the physical activity agenda in Bradford over a period of three years (2021–2024). Data collection included focus groups, semi-structured interviews, researcher observations of key workshops and meetings, and surveys at two time-points (December 2021 and January 2024). Qualitative data were analysed using reflexive thematic analysis. Quantitative data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: Four themes were identified which embody conditions that appear to be critical for working towards physical activity being embedded in local policy & practice within the Bradford District. These included: collaboration and sector integration, co-productive working, governance and leadership, and cultivating a learning culture. The process of co-producing a district-wide strategy for physical activity was key to facilitating shared ownership of the physical activity agenda across different levels of the system, and for supporting and maintaining cross-sectoral collaboration. On average, survey respondents connected with four more local organisations in relation to the physical activity agenda in January 2024 than in December 2021. Conclusion: Taking a partnership approach, and fostering a culture of evidence-informed decision making, is key to embedding physical activity into policy and practice at a local level. Investing time to understand the aims and values of each partner, and potential synergies and tensions between them, can support the development of a positive and productive collaboration and, subsequently, more effective whole-system delivery and population-level increases in physical activity. Climate change is threatening vulnerable geographies including island nations, posing major economic and social risks. The development of renewables, specifically geothermal energy in the Hawaiian archipelago offers promising possibilities to achieve energy independence and security. However, geothermal development faces opposition from the Native Hawaiian community, stemming from Hawaiian cultural identity and beliefs that natural resources are akua (gods). Throughout Hawai'i's history Native Hawaiians have been marginalized in decision making processes, overlooking cultural implications of development. In this article we explore how to improve collaboration with Native Hawaiians to guide future geothermal energy development in Hawai'i. We conducted seven semi-structured interviews with individuals from three groups: (1) Native Hawaiians community members, (2) Native Hawaiian geothermal professionals, and (3) non-native geothermal professionals. Using a grounded theory approach, we discovered the interviews emphasized the status of geothermal development, feelings towards geothermal, perceived obstacles, knowledge gaps and recommendations to improve development. Interviews were manually transcribed and analyzed to identify similarities and differences in responses. Due to the limited number of interviews, our results are not statistically robust, but do offer insights for equitable culturally grounded geothermal energy development. Findings include six key themes. (1) Renewable energy is critical for Hawai'i's future sustainability. (2) The primary obstacles facing geothermal energy expansion are not cultural. The largest obstacles are regulatory and financial. (3) Reasons and opportunities to support Geothermal exploration and expansion exist. Geothermal provides Hawai'i a firm energy resource with a minimal ecological footprint. (4) Cultural implications surrounding geothermal are significant. (5) There is a need to rebuild collaboration and trust. Past developments failed to collaborate with local communities, destroying trust. (6) Opportunities to improve social / environmental justice and benefits for native/local communities forced to host green energy projects. Interview were then coded based on these overarching themes, extracting related text using Microsoft Excel. The information from this research allowed us to produce a narrative synthesis detailing areas of conflict and knowledge gaps and allowed us to create recommendations to improve collaboration between energy professionals and Native Hawaiians. Strategic Planning and Political Dynamics in the Management of BUMDesa in Tasikmalaya Regency, 2022- 2024: A Case Study of BUMDesa Warga Saluyu in Sukaluyu Village, Mangunreja Subdistrict, and BUMDesa Walatra in Salawu Village, Salawu Subdistrict, Tasikmalaya Regency, examines how strategic planning is implemented in BUMDesa Warga Saluyu and BUMDesa Walatra, as well as how local political dynamics influence the implementation of policies. This research uses a qualitative method with a case study approach to analyze strategic planning and political dynamics in the management of BUMDesa, combining primary data from in-depth interviews and field observations with secondary data from media documentation and previous studies. The findings show that strategic planning in the management of BUMDesa in Tasikmalaya Regency, such as in BUMDesa Warga Saluyu and BUMDesa Walatra, is directed toward the development of local potential, particularly in the fields of tourism and agriculture. However, challenges include limited resources and local political dynamics that affect policy and program implementation. Based on Lorange’s theory in Bryson regarding Mission, Strategy, Budget, and Control, this study emphasizes the need for a comprehensive approach to strategic planning and the management of BUMDesa in Tasikmalaya Regency. Furthermore, the analysis also considers the implications of local political dynamics and the role of regional governments and communities in managing BUMDesa. Overall, this research provides valuable insights into the capacity of BUMDesa Warga Saluyu and BUMDesa Walatra in implementing strategic planning, highlighting the importance of effective collaboration and coordination among stakeholders to improve community welfare and promote sustainable village development [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of this paper was to discuss the collaborative initiative between the Mona Library (ML) and the Library and Information Association of Jamaica (LIAJA) focused on digitizing the Association's peer-reviewed publications, specifically the Jamaica Library Association (JLA) Bulletin and the LIAJA Bulletin, for enhanced access and preservation. The paper also addressed the compilation of a second index for the LIAJA Bulletin, covering the period from 2007 to its electronic publication in 2014. This second index was intended to complement the first index, which was compiled from 1950 to 2006. This collaborative project presented numerous challenges and benefits, offering valuable insights for future initiatives. Key benefits for the library included the enhancement of staff competencies, strengthening of institutional reputation, increased growth and visibility, and the preservation of Jamaican and Caribbean librarians' scholarly output for future generations. Purpose: This paper aims to examine the barriers to adopting collaboration in architectural design studios from the instructors' perspectives and explore strategies to overcome barriers. Design/methodology/approach: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 14 coordinators in architecture and interior architecture design studios to gather insights into their experiences and perspectives on collaboration. Thematic analysis was employed to identify key themes and patterns in the data. Findings: The study reveals that collaboration is highly valued by instructors for its potential to enhance creativity, problem-solving abilities, and preparation skills among students. However, the study identified several barriers, such as student conflicts, coordination challenges, cultural differences, and technological constraints. Practical implications: The instructors recommended specific strategies to promote collaboration in architectural design studios. These strategies include involving students in collaborative projects, providing training in collaboration skills, striking a balance between online and in-person activities, and developing supportive policies and skills. Implementing these strategies can help design programmemes that prepare students for professional success and future careers. Stroke rehabilitation often necessitates coordinated intervention services; however, few studies have examined stroke-based interprofessional education (IPE) interventions for graduate speech-language pathology (SLP) and occupational therapy (OT) students. The purpose of this mixed methods study was to examine graduate SLP and OT students' interprofessional collaboration competence before, immediately, and several months after participating in an IPE stroke workshop. Participants were 38 SLP and 14 OT students who took part in a 2-hour case study workshop, completed an online survey, and participated in a 1-hour virtual focus group. Four months later, students were asked to complete the survey again to assess the impact of the workshop on their interprofessional skills over time. Survey results suggested that the workshop advanced students' understanding of the Interprofessional Education Collaborative core competencies and that students maintained their understanding at the fourmonth follow-up. During the focus groups, students most frequently discussed practicing interprofessional skills related to communication, roles and responsibilities, and teams and teamwork as part of the workshop. Coordination among tourism firms operating within a destination is essential to enhance competitiveness and to face market changes. This study aims at investigating the constituent dimensions of coordination among tourism firms, by systematically reviewing past studies from top tourism and hospitality journals. Using an adapted version of the PRISMA protocol and applying a thematic synthesis, four main thematic areas are analysed: antecedents, enablers, actions, and outcomes. A theoretical framework of tourism firm's coordination is then introduced. Based on this review, coordination is a multidimensional phenomenon embedding the personal and business spheres, encompassing response strategies, interorganisational relationships, and formal agreements. This review offers a unifying framework that unveils the foundational elements of tourism firms' coordination, providing economists and management scholars with a basis for future research. The research portfolio, (dis-)similarity, and collaboration pattern of leading research institutions condition a country's ability to create new knowledge and promote socioeconomic development. However, little is known about the research diversity and (dis-)similarity of the publication outputs of leading research institutions in Brazil. With the objective of constructing and comparing research portfolios and analyzing the collaboration patterns of over 200 Brazilian research institutions from 2000 to 2017, we use a large dataset from the Lattes Platform on individual research outputs, along with metrics such as DIV, DIV*, and others from scientometrics. Research diversity is associated with the number of postgraduate programs and has increased over time. Prominent public universities such as the University of São Paulo (USP), State University of Campinas (UNICAMP), and Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) lead the diversity rankings and show similar research portfolios. However, also clusters of specialized research institutions can be observed, such as institutions focusing on medicine or agricultural research. Collaboration patterns appear to be mainly driven by geographic proximity. Our results imply that beyond internal diversity also dissimilarity and collaboration patterns across universities should be considered by STI policies.
