1. Discourse of national clothes in kazakh and turkish proverbs

Abstract: National clothing is not only the main indicator of the adaptation of each ethnic group to the environment, it also provides information about its lifestyle, tastes, ethics, and aesthetics. The clothes used in the composition of proverbs, as part of culture, reveal in the context the essence of linguistic and figurative thinking, which determines the cultural nature of the nation and forms the mentality of the people. As a component of proverbs, the names of the national clothing are an example of the interweaving of cultural images and linguistic images of the world in the context of concepts with their symbolic content and the discourse that arises on its basis. This article discusses the discourse of the names of national clothes in the proverbs of the Kazakh and Turkish ethnic groups, belonging to the Turkic-speaking peoples, in a cultural and contextual context. Based on the interpretation of proverbs, their scope and functions are analyzed. When the names of the clothing that found in Kazakh proverbs are considered separately it characterizes such clothing as “borik”, “zhaulyk”, “ton”, “shapan”, “kebenek”, “takiya”, which determine the national character. In the process of comparing Kazakh and Turkish proverbs, it was found that in proverbs and sayings common to the two nations, the names of clothes “borik” and “ton”, dating back to Turkic times, were preserved in the form of a cultural code. However, it is clear that such clothes as “fes”, “kurk”, “aba”, “elbise” and their names, reflecting the national characteristics of the Turkish people and started to formalize as a cultural code. The emergence of the process of replacing Turkic cultural codes, such as "borik", "ton", with those borrowed from the Arabic language, was marked by two main factors: the process of adaptation to the environment and the linguistic and cultural integration of neighboring countries. The disclosure of the discourse associated with the names of clothes in Kazakh and Turkish proverbs helps to identify the directions, content of linguistic and mental transformation, determines the relevance of the work. 2. DR-70: a promising biomarker for the detection of lung cancer

Abstract: OBJECTIVE: Lung cancer (LC) is characterized by an aggressive phenotype with a high mortality rate, early metastasis,and proliferation rate. Treatment options and prognosis differ significantly at each stage. Despite the availability of multiple imaging studies and invasive procedures, the disorder is diagnosed at an advanced stage. Therefore, it is essential to find biomarkers for the early detection of LC. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Between 2018 and 2020, 73 LC and 71 control with the same demographic characteristics were included in our study. DR-70 level was measured by a photometric method in serum samples taken from all subjects. RESULTS: A total of 144 subjects (110 male, 34 female) was included in the study. DR-70 levels in the LC group (2.53±2.64 µg/mL) were found to be statistically significantly higher than the control group (0.56±1.23 µg/mL). Clinical sensitivity and specificity of DR-70 for LC were found to be 87.67% and 88.73%. CONCLUSIONS: The high sensitivity and specificity of DR-70 can be used as a biomarker for rapid diagnosis in patients with LC. Compared with other tumor biomarkers, DR-70 seems to have a better sensitivity and specificity in the diagnosis of LC.

3. Persistent nonequilibrium dynamics of the thermal energies in the spin and phonon systems of an antiferromagnet

Abstract: We present a temperature and fluence dependent Ultrafast X-Ray Diffraction study of a laser-heated antiferromagnetic dysprosium thin film. The loss of antiferromagnetic order is evidenced by a pronounced lattice contraction. We devise a method to determine the energy flow between the phonon and spin system from calibrated Bragg peak positions in thermal equilibrium. Reestablishing the magnetic order is much slower than the cooling of the lattice, especially around the Néel temperature. Despite the pronounced magnetostriction, the transfer of energy from the spin system to the phonons in Dy is slow after the spin-order is lost.

4. Supplementation with l-carnitine downregulates genes of the ubiquitin proteasome system in the skeletal muscle and liver of piglets

Abstract: Supplementation of carnitine has been shown to improve performance characteristics such as protein accretion in growing pigs. The molecular mechanisms underlying this phenomenon are largely unknown. Based on recent results from DNA microchip analysis, we hypothesized that carnitine supplementation leads to a downregulation of genes of the ubiquitin proteasome system (UPS). The UPS is the most important system for protein breakdown in tissues, which in turn could be an explanation for increased protein accretion. To test this hypothesis, we fed sixteen male, four-week-old piglets either a control diet or the same diet supplemented with carnitine and determined the expression of several genes involved in the UPS in the liver and skeletal muscle. To further determine whether the effects of carnitine on the expression of genes of the UPS are mediated directly or indirectly, we also investigated the effect of carnitine on the expression of genes of the UPS in cultured C2C12 myotubes and HepG2 liver cells. In the liver of piglets fed the carnitine-supplemented diet, the relative mRNA levels of atrogin-1, E214k and Psma1 were lower than in those of the control piglets (P < 0.05). In skeletal muscle, the relative mRNA levels of atrogin-1, MuRF1, E214k, Psma1 and ubiquitin were lower in piglets fed the carnitine-supplemented diet than that in control piglets (P < 0.05). Incubating C2C12 myotubes and HepG2 liver cells with increasing concentrations of carnitine had no effect on basal and/or hydrocortisone-stimulated mRNA levels of genes of the UPS. In conclusion, this study shows that dietary carnitine decreases the transcript levels of several genes involved in the UPS in skeletal muscle and liver of piglets, whereas carnitine has no effect on the transcript levels of these genes in cultivated HepG2 liver cells and C2C12 myotubes. These data suggest that the inhibitory effect of carnitine on the expression of genes of the UPS is mediated indirectly, probably via modulating the release of inhibitors of the UPS such as IGF-1. The inhibitory effect of carnitine on the expression of genes of the UPS might explain, at least partially, the increased protein accretion in piglets supplemented with carnitine.

5. Periodically poled aluminum scandium nitride bulk acoustic wave resonators and filters for communications in the 6G era

Abstract: Abstract Bulk Acoustic Wave (BAW) filters find applications in radio frequency (RF) communication systems for Wi-Fi, 3G, 4G, and 5G networks. In the beyond-5G (potential 6G) era, high-frequency bands (>8 GHz) are expected to require resonators with high-quality factor (Q) and electromechanical coupling ( $${k}_{t}^{2}$$ k t 2 ) to form filters with low insertion loss and high selectivity. However, both the Q and $${k}_{t}^{2}$$ k t 2 of resonator devices formed in traditional uniform polarization piezoelectric films of aluminum nitride (AlN) and aluminum scandium nitride (AlScN) decrease when scaled beyond 8 GHz. In this work, we utilized 4-layer AlScN periodically poled piezoelectric films (P3F) to construct high-frequency (~17–18 GHz) resonators and filters. The resonator performance is studied over a range of device geometries, with the best resonator achieving a $${k}_{t}^{2}$$ k t 2 of 11.8% and a $${Q}_{{\rm {p}}}$$ Q p of 236.6 at the parallel resonance frequency ( $${f}_{{\rm {p}}}$$ f p ) of 17.9 GHz. These resulting figures-of-merit are ( $${{{\rm {FoM}}}}_{1}={{k}_{t}^{2}Q}_{{\rm {p}}}$$ FoM 1 = k t 2 Q p and $${{{\rm {FoM}}}}_{2}={f}_{{\rm {p}}}{{{\rm {FoM}}}}_{1}{\times }{10}^{-9}$$ FoM 2 = f p FoM 1 × 10 − 9 ) 27.9 and 500, respectively. These and the $${k}_{t}^{2}$$ k t 2 are significantly higher than previously reported AlN/AlScN-based resonators operating at similar frequencies. Fabricated 3-element and 6-element filters formed from these resonators demonstrated low insertion losses (IL) of 1.86 and 3.25 dB, and −3 dB bandwidths (BW) of 680 MHz (fractional BW of 3.9%) and 590 MHz (fractional BW of 3.3%) at a ~17.4 GHz center frequency. The 3-element and 6-element filters achieved excellent linearity with in-band input third-order intercept point (IIP3) values of +36 and +40 dBm, respectively, which are significantly higher than previously reported acoustic filters operating at similar frequencies.

6. Automatic Generation of High-Resolution Thermal 3D Building Envelope Models exploiting UAV Imagery

Abstract: Buildings are major contributors to global energy consumption, with the thermal performance of their envelopes playing a crucial role. Detecting thermal bridges, which compromise insulation, is essential for energy efficiency. To efficiently detect thermal bridges, thermal infrared (TIR) imagery is widely used through visual inspections, more recently by exploiting sensors mounted on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). While RGB images have been extensively used in Structure-from-Motion and Multi-View Stereo processes, applying these techniques to TIR images presents challenges due to lower resolution and inconsistent colour spaces. To overcome the challenges posed by TIR imagery, approaches from different fields investigated the integration of TIR images with other data to support the alignment. Our approach improves upon these methods by using a DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise Thermal UAV to collect RGB and TIR datasets simultaneously. Our guided image alignment and camera rig estimation approach accounts for unknown camera calibration, misalignment, and lever arm parameters, ensuring robust alignment of TIR images with a total error of 5 pixels. With this approach, the geometric accuracy of the resulting point cloud reached an RMSE of 0.13 m. Finally, thermal calibration values collected on site were applied to correct the thermal images, improving temperature value accuracy for 3D model texturing with a temperature deviation of 2.8 °C. The developed method requires no prior camera calibration, TIR image pre-processing, or ground control points, permitting a complete automation of the process.

Abstract: Summary: Background: Insulin resistance (IR) is an important risk factor for multiple chronic diseases, increasing mortality and reducing life expectancy. The associations between emerging surrogates for IR, triglyceride-glucose index (TyG) and TyG-related indicators, with all-cause mortality and life expectancy in middle-aged and older patients in primary care are unclear. Methods: This study originated from the Polish primary care cohort LIPIDOGRAM2015, including patients aged ≥45 years. Baseline fasting triglycerides and fasting glucose were used to derive TyG. Other TyG-related indicators included TyG-adjusted body mass index (TyG-BMI), TyG-adjusted waist circumference (TyG-WC), TyG-adjusted waist-to-hip, and TyG-adjusted waist-to-height. In this longitudinal analysis, we assessed associations between TyG-related indicators with total all-cause mortality, premature (age at death ≤75 years) all-cause mortality and years of life lost (YLL). Findings: We included 10,688 patients (mean age 61.8 ± 9.3 years; 63.5% female). Cumulative total and premature all-cause mortality were 7.2% and 4.6%, respectively, during 5.7 years (IQR 5.6–5.7) of follow-up. Lowest (Q1) and highest quartile (Q4) of TyG-BMI and TyG-WC were associated with total all-cause mortality (second quartile [Q2]: reference; TyG-BMI: Q1: aHR 1.33, 95% CI 1.07–1.65, Q4: aHR 1.28, 95% CI 1.03–1.58; TyG-WC: Q1: aHR 1.44, 95% CI 1.14–1.82, Q4: aHR 1.29, 95% CI 1.04–1.59), similar results for premature all-cause mortality. Within age 45–80 years, compared with Q2 and third quartile, YLL were 4.49 and 5.46 years for TyG-BMI Q1 and Q4, respectively, 3.24 and 5.31 years for TyG-WC Q1 and Q4, respectively. Interpretation: TyG-BMI and TyG-WC demonstrated a U-shaped association with total and premature all-cause mortality. Low and high levels of TyG-BMI and TyG-WC were associated with reduced life expectancy. Despite the relatively short follow-up period, significant associations were still observed, but longer follow-up studies are required to further explore these relationships. Abstract: Active galactic nuclei (AGN) are promising candidate sources of high-energy astrophysical neutrinos, since they provide environments rich in matter and photon targets where cosmic-ray interactions may lead to the production of gamma rays and neutrinos. We searched for high-energy neutrino emission from AGN using the Swift-BAT Spectroscopic Survey catalog of hard X-ray sources and 12 yr of IceCube muon track data. First, upon performing a stacked search, no significant emission was found. Second, we searched for neutrinos from a list of 43 candidate sources and found an excess from the direction of two sources, the Seyfert galaxies NGC 1068 and NGC 4151. We observed NGC 1068 at flux ${\phi }_{{\nu }_{\mu }+{\bar{\nu }}_{\mu }}$ = $4.0{2}_{-1.52}^{+1.58}\times 1{0}^{-11}$ TeV ^−1 cm ^−2 s ^−1 normalized at 1 TeV, with a power-law spectral index γ = 3.10 ${}_{-0.22}^{+0.26}$ , consistent with previous IceCube results. The observation of a neutrino excess from the direction of NGC 4151 is at a posttrial significance of 2.9 σ . If interpreted as an astrophysical signal, the excess observed from NGC 4151 corresponds to a flux ${\phi }_{{\nu }_{\mu }+{\bar{\nu }}_{\mu }}$ = $1.5{1}_{-0.81}^{+0.99}\times 1{0}^{-11}$ TeV ^−1 cm ^−2 s ^−1 normalized at 1 TeV and γ = 2.83 ${}_{-0.28}^{+0.35}$ .

Abstract: ABSTRACT: At the individual cow level, suboptimum fertility, mastitis, negative energy balance, and ketosis are major issues in dairy farming. These problems are widespread on dairy farms and have an important economic impact. The objectives of this study were (1) to assess the potential of milk mid-infrared (MIR) spectra to predict key biomarkers of energy deficit (citrate, isocitrate, glucose-6 phosphate [glucose-6P], free glucose), ketosis (β-hydroxybutyrate [BHB] and acetone), mastitis (N-acetyl-β-d-glucosaminidase activity [NAGase] and lactate dehydrogenase), and fertility (progesterone); (2) to test alternative methodologies to partial least squares (PLS) regression to better account for the specific asymmetric distribution of the biomarkers; and (3) to create robust models by merging large datasets from 5 international or national projects. Benefiting from this international collaboration, the dataset comprised a total of 9,143 milk samples from 3,758 cows located in 589 herds across 10 countries and represented 7 breeds. The samples were analyzed by reference chemistry for biomarker contents, whereas the MIR analyses were performed on 30 instruments from different models and brands, with spectra harmonized into a common format. Four quantitative methodologies were evaluated to address the strongly skewed distribution of some biomarkers. Partial least squares regression was used as the reference basis, and compared with a random modification of distribution associated with PLS (random-downsampling-PLS), an optimized modification of distribution associated with PLS (KennardStone-downsampling-PLS), and support vector machine (SVM). When the ability of MIR to predict biomarkers was too low for quantification, different qualitative methodologies were tested to discriminate low versus high values of biomarkers. For each biomarker, 20% of the herds were randomly removed within all countries to be used as the validation dataset. The remaining 80% of herds were used as the calibration dataset. In calibration, the 3 alternative methodologies outperform the PLS performances for the majority of biomarkers. However, in the external herd validation, PLS provided the best results for isocitrate, glucose-6P, free glucose, and lactate dehydrogenase (coefficient of determination in external herd validation [R2v] = 0.48, 0.58, 0.28, and 0.24, respectively). For other molecules, PLS-random-downsampling and PLS-KennardStone-downsampling outperformed PLS in the majority of cases, but the best results were provided by SVM for citrate, BHB, acetone, NAGase, and progesterone (R2v = 0.94, 0.58, 0.76, 0.68, and 0.15, respectively). Hence, PLS and SVM based on the entire dataset provided the best results for normal and skewed distributions, respectively. Complementary to the quantitative methods, the qualitative discriminant models enabled the discrimination of high and low values for BHB, acetone, and NAGase with a global accuracy around 90%, and glucose-6P with an accuracy of 83%. In conclusion, MIR spectra of milk can enable quantitative screening of citrate as a biomarker of energy deficit and discrimination of low and high values of BHB, acetone, and NAGase, as biomarkers of ketosis and mastitis. Finally, progesterone could not be predicted with sufficient accuracy from milk MIR spectra to be further considered. Consequently, MIR spectrometry can bring valuable information regarding the occurrence of energy deficit, ketosis, and mastitis in dairy cows, which in turn have major influences on their fertility and survival.

10. Hind feet position score: A novel trait to genetically reduce lameness incidence

Abstract: Lameness is an important health and welfare issue that causes considerable economic losses in dairy herds. The objective of this study was to investigate whether the hind feet position score (HFPS) can be used as an auxiliary trait for genetic evaluation of lameness. The HFPS is evaluated by visual scoring of the position of both the hind-digits to the mid-line of the cow's body. The higher the heel height of the lateral claw, the higher is the HFPS, and the higher is the risk for development of lameness. In total, 3,478 records from 1,064 Fleckvieh cows from 35 farms were obtained between September 1, 2021, and March 5, 2022. Data collection was carried out by the regional milk recording organizations. Hind feet position was scored visually by trained personnel during routine milk performance testing in the milking parlor using a 3-class scoring system: score 1 = 0° to 24°. After all cows had been milked, locomotion scoring was performed for each animal using a 5-class scoring system with locomotion scores ranging between 1 (normal) and 5 (severely lame). Using HFPS, sensitivity and specificity were 69.5% and 66.8%, respectively, for detecting lameness defined by locomotion score ≥2. For genetic analyses, a bivariate linear animal model was fitted with fixed effects of herd, parity, lactation stage, and classifier, and random effects of animal and permanent environment. Heritabilities for HFPS and locomotion score were 0.07 and 0.10, respectively, and the genetic correlation between the 2 traits studied was 0.80. These results suggest that the HFPS could be used for genetic evaluations to reduce lameness incidence in dairy cattle.

Abstract: The IceCube Neutrino Observatory instruments about 1 km3 of deep, glacial ice at the geographic South Pole. It uses 5160 photomultipliers to detect Cherenkov light emitted by charged relativistic particles. An unexpected light propagation effect observed by the experiment is an anisotropic attenuation, which is aligned with the local flow direction of the ice. We examine birefringent light propagation through the polycrystalline ice microstructure as a possible explanation for this effect. The predictions of a first-principles model developed for this purpose, in particular curved light trajectories resulting from asymmetric diffusion, provide a qualitatively good match to the main features of the data. This in turn allows us to deduce ice crystal properties. Since the wavelength of the detected light is short compared to the crystal size, these crystal properties include not only the crystal orientation fabric, but also the average crystal size and shape, as a function of depth. By adding small empirical corrections to this first-principles model, a quantitatively accurate description of the optical properties of the IceCube glacial ice is obtained. In this paper, we present the experimental signature of ice optical anisotropy observed in IceCube light-emitting diode (LED) calibration data, the theory and parameterization of the birefringence effect, the fitting procedures of these parameterizations to experimental data, and the inferred crystal properties.

12. Internal tides off the Amazon shelf – Part 1: The importance of the structuring of ocean temperature during two contrasted seasons

Abstract: The impact of internal and barotropic tides on the vertical and horizontal temperature structure off the Amazon River was investigated during two highly contrasted seasons (AMJ: April–May–June; ASO: August–September–October) over a 3-year period from 2013 to 2015. Twin regional simulations, with and without tides, were used to highlight the general effect of tides. The findings reveal that tides have a cooling effect on the ocean from the surface (∼ 0.3 ∘C) to above the thermocline (∼ 1.2 ∘C), while warming it up below the thermocline (∼ 1.2 ∘C). The heat budget analysis indicates that the vertical mixing is the dominant process driving temperature variations within the mixed layer, while it is associated with both horizontal and vertical advection to explain temperature variations below. The increased mixing in the simulations including tides is attributed to breaking of internal tides (ITs) on their generation sites over the shelf break and offshore along their propagation pathways. Over the shelf, mixing is driven by the dissipation of the barotropic tides. In addition, the vertical terms of the heat budget equation exhibit wavelength patterns typical of mode-1 IT. The study highlights the key role of tides and particularly how IT-related vertical mixing shapes the ocean temperature off the Amazon. Furthermore, we found that tides impact the interactions between the upper ocean interface and the overlying atmosphere. They contribute significantly to increasing the net heat flux between the atmosphere and the ocean, with a notable seasonal variation from 33.2 % in AMJ to 7.4 % in ASO seasons. This emphasizes the critical role of tidal dynamics in understanding regional-scale climate.

13. Spatial and temporal variability in mode-1 and mode-2 internal solitary waves from MODIS-Terra sun glint off the Amazon shelf

Abstract: The Amazon shelf is a key region for intense internal tides (ITs) and nonlinear internal solitary wave (ISWs) generation associated with them. The region shows well-marked seasonal variability (from March to July, MAMJJ, and from August to December, ASOND) of the circulation and stratification, which can both induce changes in the ISW physical characteristics. The description of the seasonal and neap–spring tidal variability in the ISWs off the Amazon shelf is performed for the first time using a meaningful data set composed of 140 MODIS-Terra imagery from 2005 to 2021, where about 500 ISW signatures were identified in the sun glint region. Previous studies have documented the existence of mode-1 ISWs, but the region appears as a newly described hotspot for mode-2 ISWs. ISW packets separated by typical mode-1 (95–170 km; 2.1–3.8 m s−1) and mode-2 (46–85 km; 1.0–1.9 m s−1) IT wavelengths have been identified and mapped coming from different IT generation sites. For each ISW, a group of waves (3 to 10) is generally follows the largest crest. The intra-packet distance between each wave in the group is about 10 to 20 km. Regions of higher occurrence of ISWs are spaced by a IT mode-1 wavelength. We make the assumption that it might correspond to the IT reflection beams at the surface, which may generate newer ISWs. The mean mode-1 and mode-2 inter-packet distances do not show significant differences according to their IT generation sites. The ISW activity is higher (more than 60 % of signatures) during spring tides than neap tides. In the region under the influence of the North Equatorial Counter Current (NECC), ISWs are separated by a mean mode-1 IT wavelength which is 14.3 % higher during ASOND than during MAMJJ due to a deeper thermocline and the reinforcement of the NECC. These ISWs are also characterized by a wider inter-packet distance distribution (higher standard deviation) that may be related to the stronger eddy kinetic energy (EKE) during ASOND compared to MAMJJ. The mean inter-packet distance of mode-2 ISWs remains almost unchanged during the two seasons, but the inter-packet distance distribution is wider in ASOND than in MAMJJ as for mode 1. Note that these results need to be treated with caution, as only few occurrences of mode-2 waves were found during MAMJJ. In the region of the NECC, the direction of propagation for all modes is very similar in MAMJJ (about 30∘ clockwise from the north), whereas, for ASOND, the ISWs propagate in a wider pathway (from 0 to 60∘ clockwise from the north), due to a much larger eddy activity. During ASOND, as the background flux goes further east, the inter-packet distances become larger (4 % for mode 1 and 7.8 % for mode 2). These results show that the reinforcement of the NECC in ASOND appears to play a role in diverting the waves towards the east, increasing their phase velocities and their eastern traveling direction component when compared to MAMJJ. Calculations of the IT velocities using the Taylor–Goldstein equation supported our results regarding the presence of ISWs associated with mode-2 ITs and additionally the IT seasonal variability.

Abstract: Abstract Atmospheric muon neutrinos are produced by meson decays in cosmic-ray-induced air showers. The flux depends on meteorological quantities such as the air temperature, which affects the density of air. Competition between decay and re-interaction of those mesons in the first particle production generations gives rise to a higher neutrino flux when the air density in the stratosphere is lower, corresponding to a higher temperature. A measurement of a temperature dependence of the atmospheric $$\nu _{\mu }$$ ν μ flux provides a novel method for constraining hadronic interaction models of air showers. It is particularly sensitive to the production of kaons. Studying this temperature dependence for the first time requires a large sample of high-energy neutrinos as well as a detailed understanding of atmospheric properties. We report the significant ( $$> 10 \; \sigma $$ > 10 σ ) observation of a correlation between the rate of more than 260,000 neutrinos, detected by IceCube between 2012 and 2018, and atmospheric temperatures of the stratosphere, measured by the Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS) instrument aboard NASA’s AQUA satellite. For the observed 10 $$\%$$ % seasonal change of effective atmospheric temperature we measure a 3.5(3) $$\%$$ % change in the muon neutrino flux. This observed correlation deviates by about 2-3 standard deviations from the expected correlation of 4.3 $$\%$$ % as obtained from theoretical predictions under the assumption of various hadronic interaction models.

Abstract: OBJECTIVE: Gastric cancer is one of the gastrointestinal tract tumors associated with a poor prognosis. Ficus carica L. is one of the most outstanding species among many traditional medicines. The aim of our study is to determine the antioxidant content of Ficus carica L., and its therapeutic effects on gastric cancer. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Ficus carica L. was extracted in a different solvent. The antioxidant parameters of the different concentrations of extracts were measured photometrically. The human gastric adenocarcinoma cells (AGS) were incubated with different concentrations of Ficus carica L. extract for 24 hours; cell viability by the ATP test, and intracellular reactive oxygen species levels were determined by H2DCF-DA fluorescent dye. Intracellular glutathione levels luminometrically, and mitochondrial membrane potential fluorometrically were detected. The apoptotic effect was analyzed with acridine orange/ ethidium bromide, and the genotoxic effect by the comet assay. Abstract: Introduction. Taurine is a non-proteinogenic amino acid. The molecule is involved in lipid metabolism, adsorbs fat-soluble vitamins, and its conjugates with bile acids contribute to the emulsification of fats in the intestine. Drugs, which include a taurine molecule, have anti-cataract, cardiotonic, metabolic effects, and also stimulate regeneration. Among the dosage forms, where taurine acts as an active substance, there is a solid dosage form – film-coated tablets. One of the methods for assessing the quality of solid dosage forms is a comparative dissolution kinetics test. High-performance chromatography with ultraviolet detection is a widely used method for quantification within the dissolution test, however, for taurine, which does not contain chromophore groups in its structure, this method is not directly applicable. To solve this problem, one can apply the method of pre-column derivatization, because of which an fragment is introduced into the structure, providing a bathochromic shift in the UV spectrum of the starting compound.Aim. Development, validation and approbation analytical method for the quantitative determination of taurine by high-performance chromatography with ultraviolet detection as part of a test comparative kinetics dissolution of taurine tablets with a dosage of 250 and 500 mg.Materials and methods. The following preparations were used for the analysis: taurine tablets, film-coated 250 mg and 500 mg, domestic production with a valid expiration date. The comparative dissolution kinetics test was carried out on a DT 126 Light instrument for the "Dissolution" test (ERWEKA GmbH, Germany). Chromatographic separation and detection were performed on a Nexera-i LC-2040 high-performance liquid chromatograph (Shimadzu Corporation, Japan) equipped with a column and sample thermostat, a degasser, an autosampler, and an ultraviolet detector. Detection was carried out at a wavelength of 254 nm after derivatization of the taurine molecule with 4-toluenesulfonyl chloride. Were used a Shim-pack Velox C18 5 μm 4.6 × 150 mm column (Shimadzu Corporation, Japan) and a Shim-pack Velox C18 EXP Guard Column Cartridge 5 μm 4.6 × 5 mm (Shimadzu Corporation, Japan). Primary data were processed using LabSolutions Single LC software (Shimadzu Corporation, Japan).Results and discussion. The optimal conditions for taurine derivatization have been selected, and a method for the quantitative determination of taurine by HPLC-UV in test comparative kinetics dissolution in three dissolution media: 0.1 M hydrochloric acid solution with pH 1.2, acetate buffer solution with pH 4.5, phosphate buffer solution with pH 6.8, as well as in the quality control medium – purified water has been developed and validated. During the validation of the developed methodology, it was found that the validation characteristics are within the acceptance criteria in 4 dissolution media. The analytical range of the method was 0.05–1.2 mg/mL and allows the developed method to be used for the quantitative determination of tablets with a dosage of 250 mg and 500 mg as part of the test comparative kinetics dissolution. The method was tested in 4 dissolution media, in all media, there was a complete release in both dosages (more than 85 % by 30 minutes).Conclusion. The method was tested in three dissolution media: 0.1 M hydrochloric acid solution with pH 1.2, acetate buffer solution with pH 4.5, phosphate buffer solution with pH 6.8, as well as in the quality control medium – purified water. In all media, there was a complete release in both dosages (more than 85 % by 30 minutes).

20. Fortnightly variability of Chl a in the Indonesian seas

Abstract: Twenty years of daily MODIS-Aqua ocean color observations (2002–2022) are used to identify periodic variability of near-surface chlorophyll (Chl a) in the Indonesian seas. The frequency spectrum of Chl a is dominated by the mean and low-frequency monsoonal variability; however, a prominent peak around the fortnightly tidal period, MSf, is present. Harmonic analysis is used to quantify and map the fortnightly Chl a signal, which is discovered to be significant along the continental shelves of NW Australia and at several sites associated with narrow passages between the Lesser Sunda Islands, within the Sulu Archipelago, and at a few other sites in the Philippines Archipelago. Fortnightly variability at the shallow coastal sites is attributed to the spring–neap cycle of barotropic ocean currents, while we hypothesize that the variability in deeper water near the island passages is due to the modulation of vertical nutrient fluxes by baroclinic tidal mixing. The results document the significance of tidal mixing and highlight the heterogeneous character of biophysical processes within the Indonesian seas.

Abstract: Objective:. To assess the 5-year recurrence rate of incisional hernia repair in Ventral Hernia Working Group (VHWG) 3 hernia with a slowly resorbable mesh. Summary Background Data:. Incisional hernia recurs frequently after initial repair. In potentially contaminated hernia, recurrences rise to 40%. Recently, the biosynthetic Phasix mesh has been developed that is resorbed in 12–18 months. Resorbable meshes might be a solution for incisional hernia repair to decrease short- and long-term (mesh) complications. However, long-term outcomes after resorption are scarce. Methods:. Patients with VHWG grade 3 incisional midline hernia, who participated in the Phasix trial (Clinilcaltrials.gov: NCT02720042) were included by means of physical examination and computed tomography (CT). Primary outcome was hernia recurrence; secondary outcomes comprised of long-term mesh complications, reoperations, and abdominal wall pain [visual analogue score (VAS): 0–10]. Results:. In total, 61/84 (72.6%) patients were seen. Median follow-up time was 60.0 [interquartile range (IQR): 55–64] months. CT scan was made in 39 patients (68.4%). A recurrence rate of 15.9% (95% confidence interval: 6.9–24.8) was calculated after 5 years. Four new recurrences (6.6%) were found between 2 and 5 years. Two were asymptomatic. In total, 13/84 recurrences were found. No long-term mesh complications and/or interventions occurred. VAS scores were 0 (IQR: 0–2). Conclusions:. Hernia repair with Phasix mesh in high-risk patients (VHWG 3, body mass index >28) demonstrated a recurrence rate of 15.9%, low pain scores, no mesh-related complications or reoperations for chronic pain between the 2- and 5-year follow-up. Four new recurrences occurred, 2 were asymptomatic. The poly-4-hydroxybutyrate mesh is a safe mesh for hernia repair in VHWG 3 patients, which avoids long-term mesh complications like pain and mesh infection.

Abstract: The present study was undertaken to investigate the effect of harvest time on the bioactive properties of Echinacea pallida and to determine the antioxidant effect of its extract in vegetable oils. E. pallida was harvested in June, 2009, June, 2010 and August. 2010. Total phenolic content and antioxidant activity analyses of the plant extracts obtained with three different solvents were carried out using spectrophotometric methods. It was determined that harvest time and solvent type had significant effects on bioactive properties. In addition, the effect of E. pallida extract on the oxidative stability of vegetable oils was determined by the rancimat method. The extract (2000 ppm) obtained by ethanol (100%) showed similar oxidative stability on sunflower and canola oils compared to BHA (100 ppm). The GC-MS results revealed various volatile compounds such as bornyl acetate, caryophyllene E, musk ambrette, germacrene D, α-muurolol, musk ambrette, imidazo (1,2-a) pyrimidine, 1-pyrrolidino-1-cyclohexene, 2,3,5,6-tetrahydro-1H-pyrrolizine, pyrazine, and benzenaminium.

Abstract: Here we introduce the human induced pluripotent stem cell lines (hiPSCs), HIMRi002-A and HIMRi003-A, generated from cultured dermal fibroblasts of 61-year-old (HIMRi002-A) and 38-year-old (HIMRi003-A) female patients, carrying a known heterozygous pathogenic variant (p.A46T) in the Caveolin 3 (CAV3) gene, via lentiviral expression of OCT4, SOX2, KLF4 and c-MYC. HIMRi002-A and HIMRi003-A display typical embryonic stem cell-like morphology, carry the p.A46T CAV3 gene mutation, express several pluripotent stem cell markers, retain normal karyotype (46, XX) and can differentiate in all three germ layers. We postulate that the HIMRi002-A and HIMRi003-A iPSC lines can be used for the characterization of CAV3-associated pathomechanisms and for developing new therapeutic options.

24. Internal tides off the Amazon shelf during two contrasted seasons: interactions with background circulation and SSH imprints

Abstract: The Amazon shelf break is a key region for internal tide (IT) generation. It also shows a large seasonal variation in circulation and associated stratification. This study, based on a high-resolution model (1/36∘) explicitly forced by tide, aims to better characterize how the ITs vary between two contrasted seasons. During the season from March to July (MAMJJ) the currents and mesoscale eddies are weak while the pycnocline is shallower and stronger. From August to December (ASOND) mean currents and mesoscale eddies are strong, and the pycnocline is deeper and weaker than in MAMJJ. For both seasons, semi-diurnal M2 ITs are generated on the shelf break mainly between the 100 and 1000 m isobath in the model. South of 2∘ N, the conversion from barotropic to baroclinic tide is more efficient in MAMJJ than in ASOND. Local dissipation of the coherent M2 at the generation sites is higher in MAMJJ (30 %) than in ASOND (22 %), because higher modes are favourably generated (modes 2 and 3), making the internal wave packet more dispersive. The remaining fraction (70 %–80 %) propagates away from the generation sites and mainly dissipates locally every ∼ 100 km, which corresponds to the mode 1 reflection beams. About 13 %, 30 %, and 40 % of the M2 coherent IT dissipates at the first, second, and third beams. M2 coherent baroclinic flux propagates more northward during MAMJJ while it seems to be blocked at 6∘ N during ASOND. There is no intensified dissipation of the coherent M2 that could explain the disappearance of the coherent flux. In fact, the flux at this location becomes more incoherent because of strong interaction with the currents. This has been shown in the paper using 25 h mean snapshots of the baroclinic flux that shows branching and stronger eastward deviation of the IT when interacting with mesoscale eddies and stratification during ASOND. Finally, we evaluated sea surface height (SSH) frequency and wavenumber spectra for subtidal (f<1/28 h−1), tidal (1/28 h−1 < f<1/11 h−1), and supertidal (f>1/11 h−1) frequencies. Tidal frequencies explain most of the SSH variability for wavelengths between 250 and 70 km. Below 70 km, the SSH is mainly incoherent and supertidal. The length scale at which the SSH becomes dominated by unbalanced (non-geostrophic) IT was estimated to be around 250 km. Our results highlight the complexity of correctly predicting IT SSH in order to better observe mesoscale and sub-mesoscale eddies from existing and upcoming altimetric missions, notably the Surface Water Ocean Topography (SWOT) mission.

25. Seasonal study of the small-scale variability in dissolved methane in the western Kiel Bight (Baltic Sea) during the European heatwave in 2018

Abstract: Methane (CH4) is a climate-relevant atmospheric trace gas which is emitted to the atmosphere from coastal areas such as the Baltic Sea. The oceanic CH4 emission estimates are still associated with a high degree of uncertainty partly because the temporal and spatial variability in the CH4 distribution in the ocean surface layer is usually not known. In order to determine the small-scale variability in dissolved CH4 we set up a purge and trap system with a significantly improved precision for the CH4 concentration measurements compared to static headspace equilibration measurements. We measured the distribution of dissolved CH4 in the water column of the western Kiel Bight and Eckernförde Bay in June and September 2018. The top 1 m was sampled in high resolution to determine potential small-scale CH4 concentration gradients within the mixed layer. CH4 concentrations throughout the water column of the western Kiel Bight and Eckernförde Bay were generally higher in September than in June. The increase in the CH4 concentrations in the bottom water was accompanied by a strong decrease in O2 concentrations which led to anoxic conditions favourable for microbial CH4 production in September. In summer 2018, northwestern Europe experienced a pronounced heatwave. However, we found no relationship between the anomalies of water temperature and excess CH4 in both the surface and the bottom layer at the site of the Boknis Eck Time Series Station (Eckernförde Bay). Therefore, the 2018 European heatwave most likely did not affect the observed increase in the CH4 concentrations in the western Kiel Bight from June to September 2018. The high-resolution measurements of the CH4 concentrations in the upper 1 m of the water column were highly variable and showed no uniform decreasing or increasing gradients with water depth. Overall, our results show that the CH4 distribution in the water column of the western Kiel Bight and Eckernförde Bay is strongly affected by both large-scale temporal (i.e. seasonal) and small-scale spatial variabilities which need to be considered when quantifying the exchange of CH4 across the ocean–atmosphere interface.

Abstract: Abstract The reconstruction of event-level information, such as the direction or energy of a neutrino interacting in IceCube DeepCore, is a crucial ingredient to many physics analyses. Algorithms to extract this high level information from the detector’s raw data have been successfully developed and used for high energy events. In this work, we address unique challenges associated with the reconstruction of lower energy events in the range of a few to hundreds of GeV and present two separate, state-of-the-art algorithms. One algorithm focuses on the fast directional reconstruction of events based on unscattered light. The second algorithm is a likelihood-based multipurpose reconstruction offering superior resolutions, at the expense of larger computational cost.

Abstract: The IceCube Neutrino Observatory has been continuously taking data to search for ${ \mathcal O }(0.5\mbox{--}10)$ s long neutrino bursts since 2007. Even if a Galactic core-collapse supernova is optically obscured or collapses to a black hole instead of exploding, it will be detectable via the ${ \mathcal O }(10)$ MeV neutrino burst emitted during the collapse. We discuss a search for such events covering the time between 2008 April 17 and 2019 December 31. Considering the average data taking and analysis uptime of 91.7% after all selection cuts, this is equivalent to 10.735 yr of continuous data taking. In order to test the most conservative neutrino production scenario, the selection cuts were optimized for a model based on an 8.8 solar mass progenitor collapsing to an O–Ne–Mg core. Conservative assumptions on the effects of neutrino oscillations in the exploding star were made. The final selection cut was set to ensure that the probability to detect such a supernova within the Milky Way exceeds 99%. No such neutrino burst was found in the data after performing a blind analysis. Hence, a 90% C.L. upper limit on the rate of core-collapse supernovae out to distances of ≈25 kpc was determined to be 0.23 yr ^−1 . For the more distant Magellanic Clouds, only high neutrino luminosity supernovae will be detectable by IceCube, unless external information on the burst time is available. We determined a model-independent limit by parameterizing the dependence on the neutrino luminosity and the energy spectrum.

Abstract: IceCube alert events are neutrinos with a moderate-to-high probability of having astrophysical origin. In this study, we analyze 11 yr of IceCube data and investigate 122 alert events and a selection of high-energy tracks detected between 2009 and the end of 2021. This high-energy event selection (alert events + high-energy tracks) has an average probability of ≥0.5 of being of astrophysical origin. We search for additional continuous and transient neutrino emission within the high-energy events’ error regions. We find no evidence for significant continuous neutrino emission from any of the alert event directions. The only locally significant neutrino emission is the transient emission associated with the blazar TXS 0506+056, with a local significance of 3 σ , which confirms previous IceCube studies. When correcting for 122 test positions, the global p -value is 0.156 and compatible with the background hypothesis. We constrain the total continuous flux emitted from all 122 test positions at 100 TeV to be below 1.2 × 10 ^−15 (TeV cm ^2 s) ^−1 at 90% confidence assuming an E ^−2 spectrum. This corresponds to 4.5% of IceCube’s astrophysical diffuse flux. Overall, we find no indication that alert events in general are linked to lower-energetic continuous or transient neutrino emission.

Abstract: Neutrino flares in the sky are searched for in data collected by IceCube between 2011 and 2021 May. This data set contains cascade-like events originating from charged-current electron neutrino and tau neutrino interactions and all-flavor neutral-current interactions. IceCube’s previous all-sky searches for neutrino flares used data sets consisting of track-like events originating from charged-current muon neutrino interactions. The cascade data set is statistically independent of the track data sets, and while inferior in angular resolution, the low-background nature makes it competitive and complementary to previous searches. No statistically significant flare of neutrino emission was observed in an all-sky scan. Upper limits are calculated on neutrino flares of varying duration from 1 hr to 100 days. Furthermore, constraints on the contribution of these flares to the diffuse astrophysical neutrino flux are presented, showing that multiple unresolved transient sources may contribute to the diffuse astrophysical neutrino flux.

Abstract: We present the results of a search for 10–1000 GeV neutrinos from 2268 gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) over 8 yr of IceCube-DeepCore data. This work probes burst physics below the photosphere where electromagnetic radiation cannot escape. Neutrinos of tens of giga electronvolts are predicted in sub-photospheric collision of free-streaming neutrons with bulk-jet protons. In a first analysis, we searched for the most significant neutrino-GRB coincidence using six overlapping time windows centered on the prompt phase of each GRB. In a second analysis, we conducted a search for a group of GRBs, each individually too weak to be detectable, but potentially significant when combined. No evidence of neutrino emission is found for either analysis. The most significant neutrino coincidence is for Fermi-GBM GRB bn 140807500, with a p -value of 0.097 corrected for all trials. The binomial test used to search for a group of GRBs had a p -value of 0.65 after all trial corrections. The binomial test found a group consisting only of GRB bn 140807500 and no additional GRBs. The neutrino limits of this work complement those obtained by IceCube at tera electronvolt to peta electronvolt energies. We compare our findings for the large set of GRBs as well as GRB 221009A to the sub-photospheric neutron-proton collision model and find that GRB 221009A provides the most constraining limit on baryon loading. For a jet Lorentz factor of 300 (800), the baryon loading on GRB 221009A is lower than 3.85 (2.13) at a 90% confidence level.

Abstract: Active galactic nuclei (AGN) are prime candidate sources of the high-energy, astrophysical neutrinos detected by IceCube. This is demonstrated by the real-time multimessenger detection of the blazar TXS 0506+056 and the recent evidence of neutrino emission from NGC 1068 from a separate time-averaged study. However, the production mechanism of the astrophysical neutrinos in AGN is not well established, which can be resolved via correlation studies with photon observations. For neutrinos produced due to photohadronic interactions in AGN, in addition to a correlation of neutrinos with high-energy photons, there would also be a correlation of neutrinos with photons emitted at radio wavelengths. In this work, we perform an in-depth stacking study of the correlation between 15 GHz radio observations of AGN reported in the MOJAVE XV catalog, and 10 yr of neutrino data from IceCube. We also use a time-dependent approach, which improves the statistical power of the stacking analysis. No significant correlation was found for both analyses, and upper limits are reported. When compared to the IceCube diffuse flux, at 100 TeV and for a spectral index of 2.5, the upper limits derived are ∼3% and ∼9% for the time-averaged and time-dependent cases, respectively.

Abstract: The origin of high-energy galactic cosmic rays is yet to be understood, but some galactic cosmic-ray accelerators can accelerate cosmic rays up to PeV energies. The high-energy cosmic rays are expected to interact with the surrounding material or radiation, resulting in the production of gamma-rays and neutrinos. To optimize for the detection of such associated production of gamma-rays and neutrinos for a given source morphology and spectrum, a multimessenger analysis that combines gamma-rays and neutrinos is required. In this study, we use the Multi-Mission Maximum Likelihood framework with IceCube Maximum Likelihood Analysis software and HAWC Accelerated Likelihood to search for a correlation between 22 known gamma-ray sources from the third HAWC gamma-ray catalog and 14 yr of IceCube track-like data. No significant neutrino emission from the direction of the HAWC sources was found. We report the best-fit gamma-ray model and 90% CL neutrino flux limit from the 22 sources. From the neutrino flux limit, we conclude that, for five of the sources, the gamma-ray emission observed by HAWC cannot be produced purely from hadronic interactions. We report the limit for the fraction of gamma-rays produced by hadronic interactions for these five sources.

37. Usability of bacteriological milk analyses for genetic improvement of udder health in Austrian Fleckvieh cows

Abstract: ABSTRACT: In addition to somatic cell count records and clinical mastitis diagnoses, results of bacteriological milk analyses provide valuable information regarding udder health. The pathogen causing an udder infection is currently not considered in Austria as part of the information used for estimation of routine breeding values for mastitis resistance. Therefore the objective of this study was to estimate heritabilities for, and genetic correlations between, udder traits of bacterial infection (bacterial infection, gram-positive and gram-negative bacterial infection) and routinely recorded udder health traits [acute mastitis, chronic mastitis, culling due to udder health problems, and somatic cell score (SCS)] in Austrian Fleckvieh cows. The basis for the genetic analyses was a data set with results from bacteriological milk analyses collected from 237 dairy farms and 6,822 cows over a period of 1 yr. Traits were defined as binary, apart from SCS, for which measures were available continuously. Multivariate analyses using a linear animal model were applied for estimating genetic parameters. The heritabilities for the occurrence of bacterial udder infection traits were 0.01. Heritabilities were 0.04 for acute mastitis, 0.02 for chronic mastitis, 0.02 for culling due to udder health problems, and 0.20 for SCS. Genetic correlations between bacteriological infection and the routinely recorded udder health traits were positive and ranged from 0.62 to 0.96. The genetic correlation between gram-positive and gram-negative bacterial infection was −0.20. The genetic correlation between acute and chronic mastitis was also close to zero. These results show that mastitis caused by different pathogens may be seen as different traits. As analyses were based on a relatively small data set and results were associated with rather high standard errors, further research with a larger data set should be carried out to confirm these results.

Abstract: Abstract Background Anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitides (AAV) are a group of small vessel vasculitides characterized by necrotizan vasculitis and inflammation. The phenotypes of AAV include microscopic polyangiitis (MPA), granulomatosis and polyangiitis (GPA), and eosinophilic granulomatosis and polyangiitis (EGPA). The pathogenesis of AAV is multifactorial, and it is suggested that both genetic and environmental factors can influence these disorders. Main body Several candidate gene studies and genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have been conducted to investigate the genetic associations with AAV in recent years. Numerous genes have been related to the pathogenesis of AAV, including the innate, adaptive immune system and coagulation systems. Conclusion This review summarizes the immunological mechanisms involved in the etiopathogenesis of AAV and recent advances in susceptibility genes.

Instead of air, oxygen-enriched breathing gases (EANx or nitrox) are used with increasing frequency. Unfortunately, their usage implies negative effects because the elevated oxygen partial pressure (pO2) increases oxidative stress. 40. Psychometric properties of the parent-report version of the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) in a clinical population of Latvian children and adolescents

Abstract: Introduction Screening instruments can be crucial in child and adolescent mental healthcare practice by allowing to triage the patient flow in a limited resource setting and help in clinical decision making. However, for a screening procedure to work, we must be sure that the screening tools used have reasonable validity and clinical utility in the population they are used in. Objectives Our study aimed to examine the psychometric and predictive properties of the parent-report version of the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ), with the application of the original UK-based scoring algorithm, in a clinical psychiatric population sample of Latvian children and adolescents. Methods 363 outpatients aged 2 to 17 years from two outpatient child psychiatry centres in Latvia were screened with the parent-report version of the SDQ and assigned clinical psychiatric diagnoses. The basic psychometric properties, and ability of the SDQ to predict the clinical diagnosis in major diagnostic groups (emotional, conduct, hyperactivity, and developmental disorders) was assessed. Results Most of the study participants were male (n=230, 63%). The mean age was 9,28 (SD=3,82) years for males and 10,93 (SD=4,11) years for females. Emotional problems, hyperactivity, and prosocial subscales of the SDQ, as well as the externalising and total difficulties scales, demonstrated acceptable internal consistency (Cronbach’s alfa > 0,7). The results for the conduct problems and internalising difficulties scales were also close to being on the acceptable level (0,68 and 0,69 respectively). The peer problems subscale was the only SDQ scale with poor internal consistency (0,57). The subscales of the parent-report SDQ showed significant correlation with the corresponding clinical diagnoses. The sensitivity and specificity of appropriate subscales of the parent-report SDQ were 67% CI [0,57,0,77] and 57% CI [0,50, 0,64] for any emotional disorder, 78% CI [0,67, 0,89] and 57% CI [0,50, 0,64] for any conduct disorder, 65% CI [0,55, 0,75] and 78% CI [0,73, 0,83] for the hyperkinetic disorder, 72% CI [0,63, 0,81] and 44% CI [0,36, 0,52] for developmental disability. Overall, none of the subscales of the SDQ has reached the interval of potential usefulness for clinical decision-making in specialized psychiatric settings, based on the positive likelihood ratio, negative likelihood ratio and diagnostic odds ratio estimates. Conclusions We suggest the SDQ rather be used in primary healthcare settings, where it can be an essential tool to help family physicians recognise children needing further specialised psychiatric evaluation. There is a need to assess the psychometric properties and validate the SDQ in a larger populational sample in Latvia, determine the population-specific cut-off scores, and reassess the performance of the scale in primary healthcare practice. Abstract: Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) have long been considered a possible source of high-energy neutrinos. While no correlations have yet been detected between high-energy neutrinos and GRBs, the recent observation of GRB 221009A—the brightest GRB observed by Fermi-GBM to date and the first one to be observed above an energy of 10 TeV—provides a unique opportunity to test for hadronic emission. In this paper, we leverage the wide energy range of the IceCube Neutrino Observatory to search for neutrinos from GRB 221009A. We find no significant deviation from background expectation across event samples ranging from MeV to PeV energies, placing stringent upper limits on the neutrino emission from this source.

Abstract: Core-collapse supernovae are a promising potential high-energy neutrino source class. We test for correlation between seven years of IceCube neutrino data and a catalog containing more than 1000 core-collapse supernovae of types IIn and IIP and a sample of stripped-envelope supernovae. We search both for neutrino emission from individual supernovae as well as for combined emission from the whole supernova sample, through a stacking analysis. No significant spatial or temporal correlation of neutrinos with the cataloged supernovae was found. All scenarios were tested against the background expectation and together yield an overall p -value of 93%; therefore, they show consistency with the background only. The derived upper limits on the total energy emitted in neutrinos are 1.7 × 10 ^48 erg for stripped-envelope supernovae, 2.8 × 10 ^48 erg for type IIP, and 1.3 × 10 ^49 erg for type IIn SNe, the latter disfavoring models with optimistic assumptions for neutrino production in interacting supernovae. We conclude that stripped-envelope supernovae and supernovae of type IIn do not contribute more than 14.6% and 33.9%, respectively, to the diffuse neutrino flux in the energy range of about [ 10 ^3 –10 ^5 ] GeV, assuming that the neutrino energy spectrum follows a power-law with an index of −2.5. Under the same assumption, we can only constrain the contribution of type IIP SNe to no more than 59.9%. Thus, core-collapse supernovae of types IIn and stripped-envelope supernovae can both be ruled out as the dominant source of the diffuse neutrino flux under the given assumptions.

Abstract: Galactic PeV cosmic-ray accelerators (PeVatrons) are Galactic sources theorized to accelerate cosmic rays up to PeV in energy. The accelerated cosmic rays are expected to interact hadronically with nearby ambient gas or the interstellar medium, resulting in γ -rays and neutrinos. Recently, the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) identified 12 γ -ray sources with emissions above 100 TeV, making them candidates for PeVatrons. While at these high energies the Klein–Nishina effect exponentially suppresses leptonic emission from Galactic sources, evidence for neutrino emission would unequivocally confirm hadronic acceleration. Here, we present the results of a search for neutrinos from these γ -ray sources and stacking searches testing for excess neutrino emission from all 12 sources as well as their subcatalogs of supernova remnants and pulsar wind nebulae with 11 yr of track events from the IceCube Neutrino Observatory. No significant emissions were found. Based on the resulting limits, we place constraints on the fraction of γ -ray flux originating from the hadronic processes in the Crab Nebula and LHAASO J2226+6057.

44. Effects of Earth system feedbacks on the potential mitigation of large-scale tropical forest restoration

Abstract: To achieve the Paris Agreement requires aggressive mitigation strategies alongside negative emission technologies. Recent studies suggest that increasing tree cover can make a substantial contribution to negative emissions, with the tropics being the most suitable region from a biogeophysical perspective. Yet these studies typically do not account for subsequent carbon cycle and climate responses to large-scale land-use change. Here we quantify the maximum potential temperature and CO2 benefits from pantropical forest restoration, including the Earth system response, using a fully coupled, emission-driven Earth system model (HadGEM2-ES). We perform an idealised experiment where all land use in the tropics is stopped and vegetation is allowed to recover, on top of an aggressive mitigation scenario (RCP2.6). We find that tropical restoration of 1529 Mha increases carbon stored in live biomass by 130 Pg C by 2100 CE. Whilst avoiding deforestation and tropical restoration in the tropics removes 42 Pg C compared to RCP2.6, the subsequent reduction in extratropical and ocean carbon uptake means that carbon in the atmosphere only reduces by 18 Pg C by 2100. The resulting small CO2 (9 ppm) benefit does not translate to a detectable reduction in global surface air temperature compared to the control experiment. The greatest carbon benefit is achieved 30–50 years after restoration before the Earth system response adjusts to the new land-use regime and declining fossil fuel use. Comparing our results with previous modelling studies, we identify two model-independent key points: (i) in a world where emission reductions follow the Paris Agreement, restoration is best deployed immediately, and (ii) the global carbon cycle response to reduced emissions limits the efficacy of negative emissions technologies by more than half. We conclude that forest restoration can reduce peak CO2 mid-century, but it can only modestly contribute to negative emissions.

45. Use of plasma nitriding to improve the wear and corrosion resistance of 18Ni-300 maraging steel manufactured by selective laser melting

Abstract: Abstract 18Ni-300 maraging steel manufactured by selective laser melting was plasma nitrided to improve its wear and corrosion resistance. The effects of a prior solution treatment, aging and the combination of both on the microstructure and the properties after nitriding were investigated. The results were compared with conventionally produced 18Ni-300 counterparts subjected to the same heat- and thermo-chemical treatments. The plasma nitriding was performed under the same conditions (temperature of 520 °C and time of 6 h) as the aging in order to investigate whether the nitriding and the aging could be carried out simultaneously in a single step. The aim of this work was to provide a better understanding of the morphology and chemical composition of the nitrided layer in the additive-manufactured maraging steel as a function of the prior heat treatments and to compare the wear and corrosion resistance with those of conventional maraging steel. The results show that nitriding without any prior aging leads to cracks in the compound layer, while nitriding of the prior-heat-treated additive-manufactured maraging steel leads to benefits from the thermochemical treatment in terms of wear and corrosion resistance. Some explanations for the origins of the cracks and pores in the nitride layers are provided.

Abstract: Development of pneumothorax after pacemaker implantation is an uncommon complication. Pneu-mothorax, contralateral to venous access site, due to atrial lead perforation is a more rare complication. The most frequently reported predictors of lead perforation are active fixation leads, low body mass index, older age, female gender and concomitant anticoagulation therapy. We described a clinical case of a 69-year-old patient who had undergone radiofrequency abla-tion of atrial fibrillation several years earlier. Several years later, the patient developed sick sinus syndrome (chronotropic incompetence) and bifascicular block, as a result of which he was implant-ed with a dual-chamber pacemaker, which was subsequently complicated by perforation of the right atrial appendage with damage to the middle lobe of the right lung with the development of pneu-mothorax and pneumopericardium. Described cases illustrates that if right pneumothorax symptoms occur in a patient where the device was placed from a left subclavian approach, perforation of the atrial appendage should be excluded. By far the preferred method of diagnosing this complication today is chest CT scan.

Abstract: In the current era of rapid climate change, accurate characterization of climate-relevant gas dynamics – namely production, consumption, and net emissions – is required for all biomes, especially those ecosystems most susceptible to the impact of change. Marine environments include regions that act as net sources or sinks for numerous climate-active trace gases including methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O). The temporal and spatial distributions of CH4 and N2O are controlled by the interaction of complex biogeochemical and physical processes. To evaluate and quantify how these mechanisms affect marine CH4 and N2O cycling requires a combination of traditional scientific disciplines including oceanography, microbiology, and numerical modeling. Fundamental to these efforts is ensuring that the datasets produced by independent scientists are comparable and interoperable. Equally critical is transparent communication within the research community about the technical improvements required to increase our collective understanding of marine CH4 and N2O. A workshop sponsored by Ocean Carbon and Biogeochemistry (OCB) was organized to enhance dialogue and collaborations pertaining to marine CH4 and N2O. Here, we summarize the outcomes from the workshop to describe the challenges and opportunities for near-future CH4 and N2O research in the marine environment.

48. Comparison of conventional and magnetic resonance defecography for diagnosis of outlet obstructive syndrome

Abstract: Background. Outlet obstruction syndrome refers to all pelvic floor dysfunctions that are responsible for incomplete evacuation of fecal contents from the rectum. Defecography is the first step for diagnosis of outlet obstruction syndrome. The free selection of imaging planes, good temporal resolution, and excellent soft tissue contrast has helped to transform this method into the preferred imaging modality for evaluation of patients with pelvic floor dysfunction. The purpose of our study was to compare conventional and magnetic resonance (MR) defecography in patients who were admitted for outlet obstruction syndrome. Materials and methods. Twenty-eight patients who presented with constipation between January 2015 and January 2020 were included in this study. MR defecography was performed 1 to 2 weeks after conventional defecography. The methods were compared with regard to their ability to diagnose anterior rectocele, internal mucosal intussusception with or without rectocele, and puborectal spasm. Additional abnormalities were also noted. Results. Comparison of conventional and MR defecography for their ability to diagnose anterior rectocele, internal mucosal intussusception, and puborectal spasm showed no significant differences between the 2 methods. The continuity correction ratio of the 2 methods for diagnosis of anterior rectocele, internal mucosal intussusception, and puborectal spasm was 0.146, 0.007, and 1.000, respectively. Conclusions. Although conventional defecography is the gold standard for diagnosis of rectocele, intussusception, and puborectal spasm, MR defecography has garnered considerable attention due to the lower radiation, increased safety, and higher incidence for diagnosis of another pathology, such as uterine diversion.

49. Internal tides in the Solomon Sea in contrasted ENSO conditions

Abstract: Intense equatorward western boundary currents transit the Solomon Sea, where active mesoscale structures exist with energetic internal tides. In this marginal sea, the mixing induced by these features can play a role in the observed water mass transformation. The objective of this paper is to document the M2 internal tides in the Solomon Sea and their impacts on the circulation and water masses, based on two regional simulations with and without tides. Since the Solomon Sea is under the influence of ENSO, the characteristics of the internal tides are also analyzed for two contrasted conditions: the January–March 1998 El Niño and the April–June 1999 La Niña. The generation, propagation, and dissipation of the internal tides are sensitive to changes in stratification and mesoscale activity, and these differ between these contrasted El Niño and La Niña case studies. Mode 1 is the dominant vertical mode to propagate baroclinic tidal energy within the Solomon Sea, but mode 2 becomes more energetic during the El Niño period when the stratification is closer to the surface. The La Niña period with a higher level of mesoscale activity exhibits more incoherent internal tides. These results illustrate the complexity of predicting internal tides in marginal seas in order to clearly observe meso- and submesoscale signatures from altimetric missions, including the future Surface Water Ocean Topography (SWOT) mission. Diapycnal mixing induced by tides contributes to a stronger erosion of the salinity maximum of the upper thermocline water and to cooling of the surface temperature interacting with the atmosphere. Such effects are particularly visible in quieter regions, where particles may experience the tidal effects over a longer time. However, when averaged over the Solomon Sea, the tidal effect on water mass transformation is an order of magnitude less than that observed at the entrance and exits of the Solomon Sea. These localized sites appear crucial for diapycnal mixing, since most of the baroclinic tidal energy is generated and dissipated locally here, and the different currents entering/exiting the Solomon Sea merge and mix. Finally, the extreme ENSO condition case studies suggest the strong role of local circulation changes, as well as stratification changes, in modifying the internal tides.

50. Data on FTIR spectra of the clays KGa-1b and STx-1b and their mixtures at different moistures

Abstract: Kaolinite and smectite are among the main soil-forming minerals, and therefore their properties are constantly being refined. This article provides data on the IR spectra of the clays KGa-1b and STx-1b containing 96% and 67% of those minerals [1], and their mixtures in equal mass proportions at different moisture contents. These data were used in the article “Study of hydration of kaolinite and montmorillonite mixture by IR spectroscopy” [2], to study the dynamics of the formation of water layers on the surface of clay particles. The data presented can be used to test experimental methods for studying the adsorption properties of mixtures, and to create new laboratory methods for determining the plastic properties of soils [3]. In addition, the data presented can be used to verify theoretical approximations and computer models for calculating the structure and electronic properties of minerals and their mixtures [4].
