The purpose of this study is to discover the elements of fantasy in Martine Franck’s documentary photographs, as well as to analyse the completeness, intentionality, and persuasiveness of the created images of illusory existence. The object of the study is the projects of Martine Franck created in the 1970s‐1990s. What contributed to Franck’s creative method was education in art history, the artistic phenomena of the first half of the 20th century, and collaboration with her husband, a prominent figure in documentary photography, co‐founder and ideologist of Magnum Photos, Henri Cartier‐Bresson. Franck’s thematic repertoire is extremely diverse, which provides a sufficient array of images to identify patterns withing the stated research topic using mainly the method of comparative analysis. No other studies on the search for the elements of fantasy in Franck’s work have been found. The examination of Franck’s photographs has allowed systematizing the elements of fantasy in her documentary photography projects and analysing the master’s figurative language and selected technical solutions.

Following a particular interest in memories and stories of exile and their representation in artistic photography, I draw critical attention to the notion of diasporic aesthetics. I ask why visual and performative strategies of storytelling matter as fundamental methods not only of self-representation, but also of transcultural expressions of “belonging” across various cultural and geographical borders. Reflecting on Parastou Forouhar, an Iranian artist living in exile in Germany, and her photographic series Das Grass ist Grün, der Himmel ist Blau, und Sie ist Schwarz [The Grass is Green, the Sky is Blue, and She is Black] (2017), I argue that artistic photography constitutes a social practice that carries the potential to create relations of solidarity with other migratory groups. These groups may share similar diasporic aesthetics, or be familiar with experiences of migration and exile or discrimination and exclusion. Moreover, within the scope of photography and migration and its particular expression and performances of belonging, the practice produces a creative space where cultural differences and boundaries may generate shared forms of identification and contestation that transcend national and ethnic identities. After arguing for photography as a medium that expresses the multiple notions and struggles of the ongoing processes through which “belonging becomes”, conclude that photography can generate a sensorium, a space that provides possibilities of critical transcultural engagement and encounters in post-migration societies.

This paper will analyze some of Natalia Roca’s photographs. Starting with the report that one of them received in Facebook and using Manuel Asensi’s theory of models of world as a methodology of work, will explore those organizational principles of photopraphy as artistic device that incite subjects to express certain behaviour and to perform some specific actions. For this reason, will stop at the look that these photopraphs suggest about feminine body in the sphere of Natural Childbirth.

No ano de 1947, a Biblioteca Municipal de São Paulo apresentou a exposição Fotografia Artística preparada pelo Museu de Arte Moderna de Nova York com consultoria técnica de Andreas Feininger. Tratava-se de uma mostra didática de reproduções fotográficas impressas em painéis, acompanhadas de textos, que reunia imagens de autoria de fotógrafos como Erich Salomon, Ansel Adams e Henri Cartier-Bresson, entre outros. Originalmente denominada Creative Photography foi produzida como múltiplo para que pudesse ser comercializada e exibida simultaneamente em diversas localidades. Este artigo visa analisar a mostra Fotografia Artística, buscando situá-la em meio às profundas transformações culturais do segundo pós-guerra, particularmente em relação às ações culturais norte-americanas realizadas no Brasil no período, às tratativas para a criação dos primeiros museus modernos no país e ao uso das técnicas de reprodutibilidade fotográfica no campo da arte.
