Many contemplatives, scientists, and clinicians have pointed to the value of responding to life’s difficulties by accepting experiences as they are. A growing body of research also suggests that acceptance contributes to effective coping with adversity, reduced stress, and improved emotional well-being. Yet within the scientific literature, there is little consensus on what acceptance means or how it should be measured. This makes it nearly impossible to synthesize empirical work on acceptance into a cohesive scientific understanding. Our goal in this paper is to clarify four facets of acceptance that are commonly referenced in research: acknowledging, allowing, non-judging, and non-attachment. We do not propose a specific definition of acceptance or even a set of privileged facets that must be included in future frameworks. We instead offer a vocabulary to facilitate productive communication among researchers that will, in turn, enable a more definitive scientific understanding of this important construct to emerge. After defining and explaining these aspects of acceptance, we further clarify these constructs in two ways. First, we illustrate how the four aspects are dissociable from one another. Second, we analyze their correspondence to related constructs from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Finally, we provide a concept worksheet that scholars can utilize to precisely operationalize acceptance in their own work.

Acknowledgements may be for intellectual inputs, financial or technical support, sharing data or other materials, and help in manuscript writing. Any non-scientific contribution need not be acknowledged. The acknowledgement should be a simple statement without embellishments and specific regarding the contributions. Writing appropriate acknowledgements in manuscripts gives due credit to the contributors.

Abstract The Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research Chronic Pain Network was founded in 2016 and is a patient-oriented research network funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. The Network incorporates patient partners throughout its governance and operations meaning that patient partners may contribute to research projects in ways that warrant scientific authorship as defined by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors. The Network did a brief informal review of guidance on patient authorship in 2019, but could not find any practical documentation to guide its members on this topic. Note the term patient partner here refers to a patient (or caregiver or other person with lived experience) who is a partner or collaborator on a research team. This guidance does not address patients as participants in a research study. This guidance has been co-written by a group of researchers and patient partners of the Chronic Pain Network in an effort to address this gap. It is intended for both researchers and patient partner audiences. This guidance is meant to facilitate conversations between researchers and patient partners about authorship and/or acknowledgement regarding research projects on which they collaborate. While the overall principles of academic authorship and acknowledgement remain unchanged, nuances for interpreting these principles through the lens of patient engagement or patient-oriented research is provided. Teams that carry out patient-oriented research projects will require different preparation to empower all team members (researchers and patient partners) to discuss authorship and acknowledgement. To facilitate these conversations, we have included an overview of the scientific publishing process, explanation of some common terms, and sets of considerations are provided for both patient partners and researchers in determining the range of team member contribution from acknowledgement to authorship. Conversations about authorship can be difficult, even for established research teams. This guidance, and the resources discussed within it, are provided with the intention of making these conversations easier and more thoughtful.

Background & Objective: The early identification of risk factors by screenings methods, as low-cost diagnostic tests with high survival rates, has always been of paramount importance for cancer diagnostics, especially in breast cancer. Since knowledge, attitude, and practice studies offer a desirable way to examine the status and make predictions, this study aims to design a valid and reliable instrument to assess breast cancer risk factors, symptoms, and screening methods. Materials & Methods: The Waltz method was used to develop the questionnaire. The exploratory factor analysis with a sample size of 390 and the confirmatory factor analysis were carried out using Amos software and SPSS 22, respectively. The reliability of the instrument was also assessed on 30 women over a one-month interval using the Cronbach's alpha and test-retest method. Results: The preliminary 87-item was finally developed into three sections: attitude (14 items and 2 factors with CVI=0.92, CVR= 0.72 and α= 0.76,) knowledge (16 items and 5 factors with CVI= 0.99, CVR= 0.85 and alpha 0.87) and practice checklist (8 items and CVI = 0.94 and CVR =1). Conclusion: The results suggested desirable psychometric properties of the questionnaire and its strength and validity in evaluating knowledge, attitude, and practice for identifying factors influencing breast cancer.

Aim This study explores mental health personnel’s experiences in the encounter with family members of patients at risk of suicide so as to develop a deeper understanding of the content of caring. Methodology Data were collected using semi-structured interviews with 12 participants and were analysed and interpreted using a model inspired by the philosophical hermeneutics of Gadamer. The context was psychiatric wards. Findings Through a thematic analysis, four themes emerged: Acknowledgement as a premise for involving family members. Embracing with the family members’ feelings and reactions. Strengthening hope in a situation entailing a serious risk of suicide. Providing reassurance to family members in transitional situations. Conclusion Witnessing the family members’ suffering and needs is understood as arousing a sense of responsibility in the participants and triggering various care strategies such as listening, embracing, strengthening hope and providing reassurance.

The article helps resolve the intricate authorship issue based on global organizations’ regulations. It draws a fine line between authorship and contributorship from the research ethics perspective.

La Carte et le territoire est le roman qui apporte le Prix Goncourt à Michel Houellebecq. Si l’écrivain privilégie les mêmes thèmes qui l’ont consacré (l’individualisme, la fragilité des relations humaines, le temps cruel et irréversible), ce livre est particulier parce qu’il façonne des portraits d’artistes. Notre article se propose donc de trouver la place de l’artiste houelle­becquien dans le monde de l’art contemporain, territoire flou et de plus en plus régi par les lois du capitalisme. Les trois catégories de personnages que nous proposons (les créateurs, les médiateurs et les récepteurs) nous permettent d’affirmer que la figure du créateur s’éloigne de sa version romantique d’être malheureux et inspiré et que l’artiste devient un élément clé du réseau assurant son succès marchand. Pourtant, à cette exigence de pragma­tisme les personnages houellebecquiens vont répondre par l’incapacité de renoncer définiti­vement à leur rassurante tour d’ivoire (symbole d’une existence autonome et antagonique avec les valeurs économiques).La Carte et le territoire by Michel Houellebecq is a novel which earned the Prix Goncourt. Whereas the author employs the same themes that made him famous (individualism, the fragility of human relationships, the cruel and irreversible nature of time), this book is distinctive thanks to its portrayal of various artists. This article aims at finding the houellebecquien artist’s place in the world of contemporary art, an ambiguous territory governed by the laws of capitalism. The three categories of characters that are put forward (the creators, the mediators, the receivers) allow us to show that the image of the creator moves away from its romantic version of an unfortunate and inspired being and that the artist becomes a key element inside the network ensuring his success on the market. However, the response to this pragmatic requirement will be the characters’ incapacity to leave their comforting ivory tower (the symbol of an autonomous existence which antagonizes with capitalist economical values).

The purpose of this paper is to analyse the subjective processes of the significant experience lived by some people in contexts of violence in Colombia. In order to do this, we use analysis from the perspective of phenomenology of Alfred Schütz and Paul Ricoeur, in which imagination converts the construction of peace as a possible world. The intention is to perform a phenomenological analysis describing the meanings given to the conflict from which the reality is interpreted and which drive behaviour. From this analytical exercise it was possible to capture some signals that indicate changes in the meanings granted to the Agreement for peace, from a preconceived project to a series of real acts, an object of phenomenal analysis which gives rise to the question of peace as an opening of social experience. Therefore, rather than closed positions, some considerations are presented as reflections about peace as the thematic horizon of Colombian society, not so much in its knowledge but in its existence.

Acknowledgement is a communicative act through which we confirm, affirm, or validate another (Hyde 2006). This paper is an autoethnographic account of my experiences in conducting a personal experiment in which I wrote letters to students, friends, colleagues, family, and even strangers in order to acknowledge them for the difference that they make to me and to others. I suggest, based on published literature and my own experiences, that acknowledgement is a spiritual act, and that by acknowledging others, we recognize the interconnectedness of our lives to those of others. I also argue that acknowledgement is an evolved form of gratitude, and offers a more sophisticated means of communication which focuses on equality and wholeness rather than hierarchy and ranking. The paper concludes with the experienced benefits of an acknowledgement practice, together with how future iterations of the project will be changed.

This paper intends to question the conditions and strategies of access to legitimacy and acknowledgement by contemporary peripheral Francophone writers who publish in Paris about their own different realities. Moreover, we will survey some questions raised by the use of Francophone fictional texts in the context of French Foreign Language teaching-learning process.

This paper discusses about socio-psychological dimension in paintings pictured in Orhan Pamuk’s novel My Name is Red. The novel shows us fi ne examples about how paintings can be a media of painters who lived in a repressive era of Sultan Murat III which established rigid rules adopted from Islamic principles of how a painting should be done. This idea manifested in the characters’ behaviour, especially Velijan Eff endi, who hold the Islamic or East principles, but dilemmatically fond of Western principles as an aesthetic way of painting. This kind of dilemma born from the presence of East and West principles intertwined in Turkey at the era pictured in the novel. Results determined that Velijan Eff endi is narcistic as a result of his needs to be acknowledged, to exist in his repressed life. He uses his paintings as the media of expressing his needs.

According to Abu-l-Hassan Al-Ash’arī, faith means acknowledgement literally, while in terms of Islamic scholars, it means acknowledging the existence of God, His prophets, and His commands and prohibitions. From his point of view, the only pillar of faith is the acknowledgement. So, the verbal confession and putting the Law in practice are considered to be secondary and excluded from the conceptual elements of faith. To explain this view point, he considers faith to be the subject to the augmentation and deficiency. Besides, he believes that faith should be based upon reason, for, according to him, the imitator`s faith is undesirable. He thinks that God creates human acts and human being merely acquires God’s created act and he is devoid of choice in its occurrence.

Most of laymen, and sometimes specials and intellectuals have missed the sight of Imam Khomeini's Gnostic aspect because of his significant political face and high rank of knowledge in Fiqh. Not to deny the deep discerning and hard efforts made by scholars in this critical field, but very little work is done on Imam Khomeini's theoretical and practical Gnosticism and its basics and principles; though the Gnostic aspects of the both kinds was clear and discernible in his adventurous life for all those who admired him. Since in Imam Khomeini's point of view those pure springs of Gnosticism can only come from the high mountains of Quran and Muslim hallows, in this research we briefly reviewe his interest toward adages of Muslim hallows as one of the main basics of Islamic Gnosticism and analyze the process of Narration (quoting) and Acknowledgement (understanding) in his spoken and written words

The modern economy can’t be conceived without the IT industry contribution, the engine of lasting economic development. In order to help the increase of software industry the countries create national strategies of information implementation, which will assure in time: the increase of the production, added value, productivity and international economic exchanges. In this area, Romania elaborates its own implementation strategy, according to the EU policy. On the company level, the informatics implementation raises problems regarding: the acknowledgement of software products in accounting as intangible assets; the registering of their reversible and irreversible devaluation, but also fiscal aspects about the modality of classification for the software supply – as goods delivery or as services performance, in the country and abroad.

Abstract: This paper aims to show that identity has become an essential category to understand contemporary conflicts. Different from its traditional forms of identification, identity turned to stratify, getting multiple, claiming legal acknowledgement for its several forms of belonging production. We stress that human body, beyond its biology, claims and constitutes an identity that assures its biography, its speech and its specific way of being. Finally it is maintained that if identity is adopted by Law, identity becomes reduced to an identification modus. In terms of norms, Law constitutes identity taking him its character.O presente texto pretende demonstrar que a identidade tem se transformado numa categoria essencial para se compreender os conflitos contemporâneos. Diferentemente de suas formas tradicionais de identificação, a identidade tem se estratificado, se tornado múltipla, reclamando reconhecimento jurídico para as suas diferentes formas de produção de pertença. Destaca-se que o corpo, para além de sua biologia, reclama e constitui uma identidade que garante uma biografia, a fala e sua particular forma de ser no mundo. Por fim, defende-se que, apropriada pelo direito, a identidade é reduzida a um modo de identificação. O direito constitui ormativamente a identidade descaracterizando-a.

We contribute to inquiries about the visibility of globalized psychoanalytic research in the digital era (cf. Stepansky 2009) by adopting a comparative perspective on a specific geographic area of historical importance for psychoanalysis: France. The largely digital globalized psychoanalytic research field relies on standard bibliometric measures of journal quality (Impact Factor, SJR, etc.),which depend on the number and type of academic cites received by a journal. Thus, citing shapes academic publishing space by differentially valuing its component journals. Conversely, not to cite practically means not to engage with the field. Hence, we took citedness rate as a proxy for global visibility.By drawing on an original database created by one of us, we determined the global citational visibility of French vs. Anglo- American psychoanalytic productions (respective global outreach); and we related it to a first look at French vs. Anglo-American citation practices (geographic breakdown of article cites).We found that,on a 15 - year period,the global outreach(citedness rate) of French articles is ten times smaller than that of Anglo - American articles;and that French articles are cited in Anglo - American journals five times more than Anglo - American articles in French journals– which in turn don’ t seem to cite their French peers very often.These specific French citation practices could be explained by the implicit modes of reference at work in clinical settings shaped by rich theoretical and clinical local legacies.We conclude by considering that this situation presents French psychoanalytic research with a formidable opportunityfor increased citational visibility.

Abstract Introduction Academic health librarians are increasingly involved as members of research teams that conduct systematic reviews. Sometimes librarians are co-authors on the resulting publications, sometimes they are acknowledged, and sometimes they receive no recognition. This study was designed to query librarian supervisors’ understanding of the extent to which Canadian academic health librarians are involved in systematic reviews and the manner in which their work is recognized. Methods A survey asking 21 questions was sent to supervisors of librarians at all 17 academic health sciences libraries in Canada, querying the extent and nature of librarians’ involvement in systematic review research projects and the forms of acknowledgement that they receive. Results Fourteen responses to the survey were received. Results show strong expectations that librarians are involved, and will be involved, in systematic review research projects. Results related to the number of reviews undertaken, the amount of time required, the forms of acknowledgement received, and the professional value of systematic review searching varied greatly. Discussion The lack of consensus among academic health librarians’ supervisors regarding most aspects of librarians’ involvement in systematic review projects, and the ways in which this work is and should be acknowledged, points to the need for research on this subject.

The paper provides a reconstruction of Strawson’s argument in chapter 3 of Individuals, emphasizing an aspect of his analysis which has received relatively small attention in the literature: the role played by a “non-detached” or “involved” stance towards other subjects in the constitution of a non-solipsistic consciousness of the world. Additionally, the paper presents some of the main lines of development which are available to further clarify and articulate the underscored aspect of Strawson’s analysis, ending up with the suggestion that a main weakness of the argument as presented in Individuals may be fixed by bringing into play Strawson’s later examination (as presented, most notably, in the essay “Freedom and Resentment”) of the varieties of “reactive” attitudes and feelings towards other subjects.

The ease of deployment and the auto-configuration capabilities of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) make them very attractive in different domains like environmental, home automation or heath care applications. The use of multichannel communications in WSNs helps to improve the overall performance of the network. However, in heavy traffic scenarios, routing protocols should be adapted to allow load balancing and to avoid losing data packets due to congestion and queue overflow. In this paper, we present an Acknowledgement-Based Opportunistic Routing (ABORt) protocol designed for high data rate multichannel WSNs. It is a low overhead protocol that does not rely on synchronization for control traffic exchange during the operational phase of the network. ABORt is an opportunistic protocol that relies on link layer acknowledgements to disseminate routing metrics, which helps to reduce overhead. The performance of ABORt is evaluated using the Cooja simulator and the obtained results show that ABORt has a high packet delivery ratio with reduced packet end-to-end delay compared to two single channel routing protocols and two multichannel routing protocols that use number of hops and expected transmission count as routing metrics.

The current health crisis has, among other things, reopened the debate on the hierarchy of trades, particularly on the so-called "essential" trades. Among them, small organic farmers have been put forward, as the pandemic has revealed the inescapable nature of their trade and, faced with the dependence of globalized markets, the need to relocate Quebec agriculture. By seeking to understand what the pandemic is doing to agriculture, this article gathers the point of view of small-scale organic farmers on their profession in the light of the current crisis, taking care to select those who operate on a small scale and who have made a transition to agriculture as a new lifestyle choice. Between March and November 2020, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 25 farmers who are now market gardeners, livestock farmers, winemakers or maple syrup producers, who, whether or not they are labeled, all practice farming with organic processes. For these producers who, long before the pandemic, saw agriculture as a means of bringing meaning back into their lives, the social mission they give to their work has not been disrupted. Nevertheless, by bringing it to the forefront, the crisis has made it possible to rethink the relationship between agriculture and society.
