The share of non-interest income in commercial banks' operating revenue has steadily risen, dramatically affecting their overall operational performance. Using panel data for sixteen Chinese listed commercial banks from 2007 to 2013, variable intercept and variable coefficient models were constructed, accounting for variables including macroeconomic growth rate. The impact of non-interest revenue on the performance of commercial banks was empirically investigated, together with the quantity of bank assets and the cost-to-income ratio. The study results indicate a sizeable negative association with operational costs and a substantial positive correlation with total bank assets, macroeconomic growth, and commercial bank performance. However, the effect of non-interest income on performance differs depending on the kind of commercial bank. Central state-owned commercial banks' non-interest revenue and performance are favorably correlated; nevertheless, urban commercial banks' non-interest revenue and performance are negatively correlated. Therefore, it is recommended that Chinese commercial banks formulate differentiated development strategies based on their characteristics to enhance overall profitability.

The purpose of this research is to analyze the application of digital twin technology in the efficient management of new innovative technology. The research is directed to perform a bibliometric analysis of the subject topic. The relevancy of the research can be underlined by the fact that digital twin technologies are a popular concept of Industry 4.0. In addition, this research is advantageous to identify the application of digital twin technology in efficient technology management, especially in Malaysia. As a scope, it would highlight possible use cases of digital twin technology. The review of existing literature highlighted that digital twin technology has serious use case potential in supply chain operations. Whereas other scholars argue that digital twin technology can bring out major disruptive innovations to improve the internal competencies of major manufacturing firms. The methodology for the research involves the use of secondary data with bibliometric analysis. It has been identified in the findings that there is a rise in research associated with digital twin technology between the timelines from 2019 to 2022. Furthermore, Chinese Academies are most active in propagating research on variables like digital twins.

A population of neurons interconnected by synapses constitutes a neural circuit, which performs specific functions upon activation. It is essential to identify both anatomical and functional entities of neural circuits to comprehend the components and processes necessary for healthy brain function and the changes that characterize brain disorders. To date, few methods are available to study these two aspects of a neural circuit simultaneously. In this study, we developed FLIPSOT, or functional labeling of individualized postsynaptic neurons using optogenetics and trans-Tango. FLIPSOT uses (1) trans-Tango to access postsynaptic neurons genetically, (2) optogenetic approaches to activate (FLIPSOTa) or inhibit (FLIPSOTi) postsynaptic neurons in a random and sparse manner, and (3) fluorescence markers tagged with optogenetic genes to visualize these neurons. Therefore, FLIPSOT allows using a presynaptic driver to identify the behavioral function of individual postsynaptic neurons. It is readily applied to identify functions of individual postsynaptic neurons and has the potential to be adapted for use in mammalian circuits.

In management practise and research, the university-maritime industry collaborations (UMICs) have grown in significance. This trend is reinforced by the necessity for innovation in the current industry environment and the desire of policymakers to commercialise knowledge from academia. Much less is known about these collaborations, although significant research efforts have been made to identify the success factors for these collaborations. Therefore, the aim of this study is to identify and explore the key factors that strengthen UMICs and propose a framework to enhance collaboration, so that a research agenda for the future will be developed based on an assessment of the existing literature. This study adopted a method of systematic literature review using published and unpublished theoretical literature to conduct analysis using five research databases in order to propose a framework aimed at identifying the key factors to strengthen UMICs. The findings of this study concluded that effective communication, trust, and adequate fund resources are essential for UMICs to succeed. Open communication channels, mutual trust, and shared vision can help build strong partnerships, while adequate funding can support research and development of new technologies, practices, and solutions. Based on previous research, none of them treated combined fund resources, effective communication, and trust as an independent variables towards UMICs relationship specifically. Hence, this study fills the gap by proposing a framework to test the relationship between fund resources, effective communication, and trust towards UMICs. Thus, the proposed framework can be used as a benchmark to strengthen UMICs in the future. This study also will encourage the managers in the maritime industry to drive innovation, establish strategic collaborations, actively involve stakeholders, and foster innovation and economic growth in the maritime industry to strengthen UMICs. The existing limited body of knowledge and literature will also benefit from this study.

Changes in the composition of gut microbiota are implicated in the pathogenesis of several neurodegenerative disorders. Here, we investigated whether gut bacteria affect the progression of Huntington’s disease (HD) in transgenic Drosophila melanogaster (fruit fly) models expressing full-length or N-terminal fragments of human mutant huntingtin (HTT) protein. We find that elimination of commensal gut bacteria by antibiotics reduces the aggregation of amyloidogenic N-terminal fragments of HTT and delays the development of motor defects. Conversely, colonization of HD flies with Escherichia coli (E. coli), a known pathobiont of human gut with links to neurodegeneration and other morbidities, accelerates HTT aggregation, aggravates immobility, and shortens lifespan. Similar to antibiotics, treatment of HD flies with small compounds such as luteolin, a flavone, or crocin a beta-carotenoid, ameliorates disease phenotypes, and promotes survival. Crocin prevents colonization of E. coli in the gut and alters the levels of commensal bacteria, which may be linked to its protective effects. The opposing effects of E. coli and crocin on HTT aggregation, motor defects, and survival in transgenic Drosophila models support the involvement of gut-brain networks in the pathogenesis of HD.
