Few-shot named entity recognition (NER) systems recognize entities using a few labeled training examples. The general pipeline consists of a span detector to identify entity spans in text and an entity-type classifier to assign types to entities. Current span detectors rely on extensive manual labeling to guide training. Almost every span detector requires initial training on basic span features followed by adaptation to task-specific features. This process leads to repetitive training of the basic span features among span detectors. Additionally, metric-based entity-type classifiers, such as prototypical networks, typically employ a specific metric that gauges the distance between the query sample and entity-type referents, ultimately assigning the most probable entity type to the query sample. However, these classifiers encounter the sample dependency problem, primarily stemming from the limited samples available for each entity-type referent. To address these challenges, we proposed an improved few-shot NER pipeline. First, we introduce a steppingstone span detector that is pre-trained on open-domain Wikipedia data. It can be used to initialize the pipeline span detector to reduce the repetitive training of basic features. Second, we leverage a large language model (LLM) to set reliable entity-type referents, eliminating reliance on few-shot samples of each type. Our model exhibits superior performance with fewer training steps and human-labeled data compared with baselines, as demonstrated through extensive experiments on various datasets. Particularly in fine-grained few-shot NER settings, our model outperforms strong baselines, including ChatGPT. We will publicly release the code, datasets, LLM outputs, and model checkpoints.

In order to grasp the influence of structural parameters of internal mixing air atomizing nozzles on the atomization characteristics and dust reduction efficiency, so as to obtain economical and reasonable nozzle structure parameters, the self-designed and developed spray dust reduction experimental platform and the orthogonal design method was used to carry out experiment on nozzle atomization characteristics and dust reduction efficiency under the combination of structural parameters. The experimental results shown that, with the diameter of the liquid cap injection hole increased, the nozzle water flow rate increased, while the air flow rate decreased continuously. Nozzle air flow increased with the number of liquid cap injection hole, whereas nozzle water flow was less affected by the number of liquid cap injection hole. When the diameter of the water injection hole gradually increased, the Sauter Mean Diameter (SMD) increased continuously. SMD with the increase of the number of air injection holes shown a change law of first decrease and then increase, and the minimum value was reached when the number of air injection holes was 4, where the atomization effect was the best. When the air cap outlet diameter was 2.0 mm and 2.5 mm, the nozzle droplet size was smaller. With the increase of the diameter of the water injection holes and the number of air injection holes of the liquid cap, the dust reduction efficiency of total dust and respirable dust both first increased and then decreased, and the best effect of the dust reduction was obtained in the diameter of water injection holes of 1.5 mm and the number of air injection holes of 4, respectively. With the diameter of the air cap outlet increased, the dust reduction efficiency of both total dust and respirable dust increased, but the increase of the dust reduction efficiency was smaller when the diameter of the air cap outlet was greater than 2.0 mm. Comprehensively considering the nozzle atomization characteristics and dust reduction efficiency, for the nozzle air cap, the outlet diameter should be 2.0 mm, for the nozzle liquid cap, it was reasonable to use a water injection hole diameter of 1.5 mm and the number of air injection holes to be 4, which can obtain the highest dust reduction efficiency. It is more reasonable to use the nozzles with the combination of above structure parameters for industrial applications, which can obtain smaller droplet size and higher dust reduction efficiency with lower air and water consumption.

ObjectiveThe appendages of a submarine affect the wake field at the propeller disk, which in turn affects the exciting force characteristics of the propeller. Grasping the influence law of the wake field on the exciting force is helpful for the low-excitation force design of submarines and propellers. MethodBased on the Suboff Model and INSEAN E1619 propeller, the RANS method is used to numerically simulate the propeller exciting force under wake fields affected by different appendages, and the harmonic analysis method is used to quantitatively characterize the wake fields at the propeller disk. The mechanism of the linear spectrum exciting force is revealed by combining the distribution characteristics of the transient flow field of the propeller. ResultsThe results show that the distribution of each order of the harmonic components of the wake field is consistent with the distribution of a single-blade linear spectrum exciting force, and the relative amplitude of the single-blade exciting force in its main frequency is basically equal to that of a seven-blade propeller. The harmonic components of circumferential symmetrical rudders to the wake field are mainly concentrated on the fourth and eighth orders, and have little effect on the exciting force of a seven-blade propeller; however, fairwaters influence the harmonic components of the wake field and have a major effect on the exciting force of a seven-blade propeller. ConclusionThe influence of rudders on propeller exciting force is less than that of fairwaters. In order to improve the exciting force characteristics of propellers, the optimization of submarine fairwaters should be emphasized.

BackgroundThe objective of this study was twofold: firstly, to develop a convolutional neural network (CNN) for automatic segmentation of rectal cancer (RC) lesions, and secondly, to construct classification models to differentiate between different T-stages of RC. Additionally, it was attempted to investigate the potential benefits of rectal filling in improving the performance of deep learning (DL) models.MethodsA retrospective study was conducted, including 317 consecutive patients with RC who underwent MRI scans. The datasets were randomly divided into a training set (n = 265) and a test set (n = 52). Initially, an automatic segmentation model based on T2-weighted imaging (T2WI) was constructed using nn-UNet. The performance of the model was evaluated using the dice similarity coefficient (DSC), the 95th percentile Hausdorff distance (HD95), and the average surface distance (ASD). Subsequently, three types of DL-models were constructed: Model 1 trained on the total training dataset, Model 2 trained on the rectal-filling dataset, and Model 3 trained on the non-filling dataset. The diagnostic values were evaluated and compared using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis, confusion matrix, net reclassification index (NRI), and decision curve analysis (DCA).ResultsThe automatic segmentation showed excellent performance. The rectal-filling dataset exhibited superior results in terms of DSC and ASD (p = 0.006 and 0.017). Abstract Background Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is associated with a high occurrence, mortality, and poor prognosis. MLX interacting protein like (MLXIPL) is an important regulator of glucolipid metabolism and is involved in tumor progression. We aimed to clarify the role of MLXIPL in HCC and its underlying mechanisms. Methods The level of MLXIPL was predicted using bioinformatic analysis and verified using quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR), immunohistochemical analysis, and western blot. We assessed the effects of MLXIPL on biological behaviors using the cell counting kit-8, colony formation, and Transwell assay. Glycolysis was evaluated using the Seahorse method. The interaction between MLXIPL and mechanistic target of rapamycin kinase (mTOR) was confirmed using RNA immunoprecipitation and co-immunoprecipitation. mTOR expression was detected in HCC cells using qPCR, immunofluorescence analysis, and western blot. Results The results showed that MLXIPL levels were elevated in both HCC tissues and HCC cell lines. Knockdown of MLXIPL impeded HCC cell growth, invasion, migration, and glycolysis. Moreover, MLXIPL combined with mTOR to induce phosphorylation of mTOR. Activated mTOR abrogated the effects on cellular processes induced by MLXIPL. Conclusion MLXIPL promoted the malignant progression of HCC by activating phosphorylation of mTOR, suggesting an important role of the combination of MLXIPL and mTOR in HCC.

Reinforcement learning (RL) has achieved great success on sequential decision-making problems. Along with the fast advances of RL, transfer learning (TL) arises as an important technique to accelerate the learning process of RL by leveraging and transferring external knowledge. Policy transfer is a kind of transfer learning approach, in which the external knowledge is teacher policies from source tasks. Existing policy transfer methods either transfer knowledge by measuring similarities between source and target tasks, or select best policy by estimating performance of source policies on target task. However, performance estimation can sometimes be unreliable, which can lead to negative transfer. To solve this problem, this paper develops a novel policy transfer method called stochastic ensemble policy transfer (SEPT), which generates a teacher policy to make transfer instead of choosing a policy from source policy library. SEPT changes policy transfer into the option learning problem to get termination probability. Then teacher policy is integrated from policy library and probability weights of source policies are calculated from termination probability. The knowledge of teacher policy is transferred by policy distillation. Experimental results show SEPT accelerates RL effectively and outperforms other state-of-the-art policy transfer methods in both discrete and continuous action spaces.

Abstract Background Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) accounts for more than 85% of the total cases with lung cancer. NSCLC is characterized by easy metastasis, which often spreads to bones, brains and livers. RNA-binding motif protein 10 (RBM10) is an alternative splicing (AS) regulator frequently mutated in NSCLC. We found that there were multiple peak binding sites between RBM10 and long non-coding RNA nuclear enriched abundant transcript 1 (LncRNA Neat1) by crosslinking-immunprecipitation and high-throughput sequencing (Clip-Seq). LncRNA Neat1 plays an indispensable role in promoting cancer in a variety of tumors and produces two splicing variants: Neat1_1 and Neat1_2. This study aims to explore the mechanism of RBM10 and LncRNA Neat1 in invasion and metastasis of NSCLC. Methods Through histological and cytological experiments, we assessed the expression level of RBM10 protein expression. The interaction between RBM10 and Neat1 was evaluated via Clip-Seq and RNA immunoprecipitation assay. The effect of RBM10 on Neat1 and its splicing variants was identified by RT-qPCR. The effect of RBM10 and Neat1 on invasive and metastasis phenotypes of NSCLC was analyzed using transwell invasion assay and scratch test. Additionally, downstream signaling pathway of RBM10 were identified by immunofluorescence and western blot. Results RBM10 exhibited low levels of expression in NSCLC tissues and cells. RBM10 inhibited the invasion and metastasis of NSCLC and recruited Neat1 and Neat1_2. Overexpression of RBM10 simultaneously inhibited Neat1 and Neat1_2, and promoted the expression of Neat1_1. On the other hand, silencing RBM10 promoted Neat1 and Neat1_2, and inhibited the expression of Neat1_1. From this, we concluded that RBM10 regulated AS of Neat1, and the tumor-promoting effect of Neat1 was mainly attributed to Neat1_2. RBM10 had a negative correlation with Neat1_2. In addition, RBM10 upregulated the expression of PTEN and downregulated the phosphorylation of PI3K/AKT/mTOR through Neat1_2, which ultimately inhibited the invasion and metastasis of NSCLC. Conclusion The RBM10 regulated AS of Neat1 to cause the imbalance of Neat1_1 and Neat1_2, and RBM10 suppressed the activation of the PTEN/PI3K/AKT/mTOR signal by downregulating Neat1_2, finally affected the invasion and metastasis of NSCLC.

Controlled-release urea (CRU) has better characteristics than conventional urea for synchronizing nitrogen (N) release with plant uptake. Understanding the effects of CRU on crop yield and N use efficiency (NUE) has long been the key to evaluate the performance of CRU. A long-term experiment over five consecutive years was conducted in Changsha, Hunan Province, China, to investigate the effects of polyethylene-coated urea with a 90-d release period on the yield and NUE of double rice (early and late crops are grown in the same year), the amount of residual soil mineral N and the soil–plant N balance, as well as on the economic benefits. Four N fertilizer treatments including CK (no N fertilizer), U (conventional urea), CRU1 (polyethylene-coated urea with equal N application rate to U) and CRU2 (20% reduction in N application rate of CRU1) were established. The results indicated that CRU1 application increased the yield and NUE of double rice by 11.0 and 13.5%, respectively, compared with U. Higher yield and NUE of late rice were found than in early rice in CRU treatments. Compared with conventional U, the yield and NUE of early rice in the CRU1 treatment were increased by 6.0 and 10.2%, respectively, and those of late rice were increased by 15.4 and 13.8%, respectively. There was no significant difference between CRU1 and CRU2 in double rice yield. Furthermore, CRU treatments (including CRU1 and CRU2) had higher apparent residual Nmin rate (ARNR) and apparent N recovery rate (ANRR), but lower apparent N loss (NS) than the conventional U treatment. Concentrations of NH4+-N and NO3–-N were greater in the surface soil (0–20 cm) and lower in the deeper soil layer (40–60 cm) with CRU treatments than in the U treatment after harvest. Moreover, CRU application produced a greater economic benefit than conventional U application. In general, CRU outperformed U fertilizer in terms of rice yield, NUE, soil–plant N balance, economic benefit, and CRU2 provided greater comprehensive benefits than CRU1. It is suggested that CRU application is beneficial for solving N management challenges in the production of rice.

Archaeal viruses are one of the most mysterious parts of the virosphere because of their diverse morphologies and unique genome contents. The crenarchaeal viruses are commonly found in high temperature and acidic hot springs, and the number of identified crenarchaeal viruses is being rapidly increased in recent two decades. Over fifty viruses infecting the members of the order Sulfolobales have been identified, most of which are from hot springs distributed in the United States, Russia, Iceland, Japan, and Italy. To further expand the reservoir of viruses infecting strains of Sulfolobaceae, we investigated virus diversity through cultivation-dependent approaches in hot springs in Tengchong, Yunnan, China. Eight different virus-like particles were detected in enrichment cultures, among which five new archaeal viruses were isolated and characterized. We showed that these viruses can infect acidophilic hyperthermophiles belonging to three different genera of the family Sulfolobaceae, namely, Saccharolobus, Sulfolobus, and Metallosphaera. We also compared the lipid compositions of the viral and cellular membranes and found that the lipid composition of some viral envelopes was very different from that of the host membrane. Collectively, our results showed that the Tengchong hot springs harbor highly diverse viruses, providing excellent models for archaeal virus-host studies.

PurposeDiabetes mellitus is a systemic metabolic disorder which may target the lungs and lead to interstitial lung disease. The clinical characteristics and mechanisms of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) complicated with interstitial lung disease (ILD) have been studied. However, little work has been done to assess genetic contributions to the development of T2DM complicated with ILD.MethodA pedigree of T2DM complicated with ILD was investigated, and the whole genome re-sequencing was performed to identify the genetic variations in the pedigree. According to the literature, the most valuable genetic contributors to the pathogenesis of T2DM complicated with ILD were screened out, and the related cellular functional experiments were also performed.ResultsA large number of SNPs, InDels, SVs and CNVs were identified in eight subjects including two diabetic patients with ILD, two diabetic patients without ILD, and four healthy subjects from the pedigree. After data analysis according to the literature, MUC5B SNP rs2943512 (A > C) was considered to be an important potentially pathogenic gene mutation associated with the pathogenesis of ILD in T2DM patients. In vitro experiments showed that the expression of MUC5B in BEAS-2B cells was significantly up-regulated by high glucose stimulation, accompanied by the activation of ERK1/2 and the increase of IL-1β and IL-6. When silencing MUC5B by RNA interference, the levels of p-ERK1/2 as well as IL-1β and IL-6 in BEAS-2B cells were all significantly decreased.ConclusionThe identification of these genetic variants in the pedigree enriches our understanding of the potential genetic contributions to T2DM complicated with ILD. MUC5B SNP rs2943512 (A > C) or the up-regulated MUC5B in bronchial epithelial cells may be an important factor in promoting ILD inT2DM patients, laying a foundation for future exploration about the pathogenesis of T2DM complicated with ILD.

Metabolic reprogramming is an important hallmark of malignant tumors. Serine is a non-essential amino acid involved in cell proliferation. Serine metabolism, especially the de novo serine synthesis pathway, forms a metabolic network with glycolysis, folate cycle, and one-carbon metabolism, which is essential for rapidly proliferating cells. Owing to the rapid development in metabolomics, abnormal serine metabolism may serve as a biomarker for the early diagnosis and pathological typing of tumors. Targeting serine metabolism also plays an essential role in precision and personalized cancer therapy. This article is a systematic review of de novo serine biosynthesis and the link between serine and folate metabolism in tumorigenesis, particularly in lung cancer. In addition, we discuss the potential of serine metabolism to improve tumor treatment.

Sepsis is one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide and is defined as life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by a dysregulated host response to infection. The early diagnosis and effective treatment of sepsis still face challenges due to its rapid progression, dynamic changes, and strong heterogeneity among different individuals. To develop novel strategies to control sepsis, a better understanding of the complex mechanisms of sepsis is vital. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are membrane vesicles released from cells through different mechanisms. In the disease state, the number of EVs produced by activated or apoptotic cells and the cargoes they carry were altered. They regulated the function of local or distant host cells in autocrine or paracrine ways. Current studies have found that EVs are involved in the occurrence and development of sepsis through multiple pathways. In this review, we focus on changes in the cargoes of EVs in sepsis, the regulatory roles of EVs derived from host cells and bacteria, and how EVs are involved in multiple pathological processes and organ dysfunction in sepsis. Overall, EVs have great application prospects in sepsis, such as early diagnosis of sepsis, dynamic monitoring of disease, precise therapeutic targets, and prevention of sepsis as a vaccine platform.

Abstract In order to explore the role of exosomal circRNAs in the occurrence and development of sepsis, we looked for potential diagnostic markers to accurately identify sepsis and to lay a molecular basis for precise treatment. Ultracentrifugation was used to extract exosomes from the serum of patients with sepsis and healthy individuals. Then, changes in circRNA expression in exosomes were studied by circRNA microarray analysis. Gene ontology (GO) analysis and Kyoto City Encyclopaedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analysis were used to annotate the biological functions and pathways of genes, and a circRNA-miRNA-mRNA regulatory network was constructed. In the microarray analysis, 132 circRNAs were significantly differentially expressed, including 80 and 52 that were upregulated and downregulated, respectively. RT-qPCR verified the results of microarray analysis: hsa_circRNA_104484 and hsa_circRNA_104670 were upregulated in sepsis serum exosomes. ROC analysis showed that hsa_circRNA_104484 and hsa_circRNA_104670 in serum exosomes have the potential to be used as diagnostic markers for sepsis. The circRNA-miRNA-mRNA network predicted the potential regulatory pathways of differentially expressed circRNAs. There are differences in the expression of circRNA in serum exosomes between patients with sepsis and healthy individuals, which may be involved in the occurrence and development of the disease. Among them, elevations in hsa_circRNA_104484 and hsa_circRNA_104670 could be used as novel diagnostic biomarkers and molecular therapeutic targets.

Autopolyploids often exhibit plant characteristics different from their diploid ancestors and are frequently associated with altered genes expression controlling growth and development. TCP is a unique transcription factor family in plants that is closely related to plant growth and development. Based on transcriptome sequencing of Chrysanthemum nankingense, 23 full-length TCP genes were cloned. The expression of CnTCP9 was most variable in tetraploids, at least threefold greater than diploids. Due to the lack of a C. nankingense transgenic system, we overexpressed CnTCP9 in Arabidopsis thaliana (Col-0) and Chrysanthemum morifolium. Overexpression of CnTCP9 caused enlargement of leaves in A. thaliana and petals in C. morifolium, and the expression of genes downstream of the GA pathway in C. morifolium were increased. Our results suggest that autopolyploidization of C. nankingense led to differential expression of TCP family genes, thereby affecting plant characteristics by the GA pathway. This study improves the understanding of enlarged plant size after autopolyploidization.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), leads to the dysregulation of the immune system, exacerbates inflammatory responses, and even causes multiple organ dysfunction syndrome in patients with severe disease. Sarcoidosis is an idiopathic granulomatous multisystem disease characterized by dense epithelioid non-necrotizing lesions with varying degrees of lymphocytic inflammation. These two diseases have similar clinical manifestations and may also influence each other and affect their clinical courses. In this study, we analyzed some possible connections between sarcoidosis and COVID-19, including the role of the renin–angiotensin system in the respiratory system, immune response, and cell death pathways, to understand the underlying mechanisms of SARS-CoV-2 infection, predisposing patients to severe forms of COVID-19. This review will provide a new prospect for the treatment of COVID-19 and an opportunity to explore the pathogenesis and development of sarcoidosis.

Abstract Background The aim of the study was to conduct a meta-analysis to evaluate the accuracy of neutrophil CD64, procalcitonin (PCT), and interleukin-6 (IL-6) as markers for the diagnosis of sepsis in adult patients. Methods Various databases were searched to collect published studies on the diagnosis of sepsis in adult patients using neutrophil CD64, PCT, and IL-6 levels. Utilizing the Stata SE 15.0 software, forest plots and the area under the summary receiver operating characteristic curves were drawn. The pooled sensitivity, specificity, positive likelihood ratio, negative likelihood ratio, diagnostic odds ratio, and area under the curve (AUC) were calculated. Results Fifty-four articles were included in the study. The pooled sensitivity, specificity, and AUC of neutrophil CD64 for the diagnosis of sepsis were 0.88 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.81–0.92), 0.88 (95% CI, 0.83–0.91), and 0.94 (95% CI, 0.91–0.96), respectively. The pooled sensitivity, specificity, and AUC of PCT for the diagnosis of sepsis were 0.82 (95% CI, 0.78–0.85), 0.78 (95% CI, 0.74–0.82), and 0.87 (95% CI, 0.83–0.89), respectively. Subgroup analysis showed that the AUC for PCT diagnosis of intensive care unit (ICU) sepsis was 0.86 (95% CI, 0.83–0.89) and the AUC for PCT diagnosis of non-ICU sepsis was 0.82 (95% CI, 0.78–0.85). The pooled sensitivity, specificity, and AUC of IL-6 for the diagnosis of sepsis were 0.72 (95% CI, 0.65–0.78), 0.70 (95% CI, 0.62–0.76), and 0.77 (95% CI, 0.73–0.80), respectively. Conclusions Of the three biomarkers studied, neutrophil CD64 showed the highest diagnostic value for sepsis, followed by PCT, and IL-6. On the other hand, PCT showed a better diagnostic potential for the diagnosis of sepsis in patients with severe conditions compared with that in patients with non-severe conditions.

Storage tank fires can endanger society and the environment by generating intense heat radiation, rapidly spreading blazes, and cataclysmic explosions. Various types of foam and even two or more mixed foams are commonly used in storage tank fire disposal sites. This research aims to experimentally and analytically assess the efficacy of various and mixed forms of foam in putting out 120# gasoline pool fires. A series of foam fire extinguishing and re-ignition tests were conducted using a laboratory fire-extinguishing device that gently released low-expansion foam. In this work, a 2.4 m-diameter steel round tray was utilized to model the full-surface fire of an oilcan in a large oil depot base. The non-dimensional (T* = TExtinguishing/Tboiling point) average temperature of 0.62–0.66 is used in this study to represent the fire extinguishing temperatures of 120# gasoline fuel. The power law is still followed during the spreading phase as the length of the foam spreads further with time. When combined, 6% aqueous film-forming foam solution and alcohol-resistant aqueous film-forming foam solution (AFFF + AFFF/AR) have the highest flow velocity of 0.0189 m s−1. According to the results, synthesis foam solution combined with alcohol-resistant fluoroprotein foam (S + FP/AR) provided the greatest cooling effect, followed by S + S/AR (alcohol-resistant synthetic foam solution), AFFF/AR, S + AFFF, S/AR + AFFF, and finally S/AR + AFFF. According to the results, foam with an expansion ratio of 8.7:1 (FP (fluoroprotein foam solution) + AFFF/AR) has greater re-ignition resistance and burn-back protection. A referable tactic for choosing foam for liquid fire suppression is shown in this paper. The results suggested that FP and AFFF should be used for effective fire suppression in this hydrocarbon fuel fire rescue. Then, we can use synthetic foam and AR foams to provide continuous cooling and prevent the fire from re-igniting through efficient foam coverage.

(1) Background: the broadcast is an outdated fertilization method with a low fertilizer-utilization rate and environmental problems, which seriously restricts the development of agriculture. (2) Methods: Under a machine-transplanted rice with side-deep fertilization (MRSF) mode, five treatments were applied: 0 cm (D0), 5 cm (D5), 7.5 cm (D7.5), and 10 cm (D10), comprising four different depths of fertilization, and no fertilization (CK). The yield, the accumulation of N and P in the straw and in grains of rice, concentrations of N and P in the surface water, ammonia (NH3) volatilization, and soil nutrients were measured in rice fields. (3) Results: In rice yields, compared with the D0 treatment, only the D7.5 treatment significantly increased by 7.84% in late rice, while the other treatments showed no significant difference between early and late rice. The N- and P-use efficiency of D10 increased by 5.30–24.73% and 0.84–17.75%, respectively, compared with the D0-D7.5 treatments. In surface water, compared with the D0 treatment, D5, D7.5, and D10, the total N (TN), total P (TP) concentration, and NH3 volatilization decreased by 10.24–60.76%, 16.30–31.01%, and 34.78–86.08%, respectively; the D10 treatment had the best inhibition effect on the TN, TP concentration, and NH3 volatilization, which were 58.48–60.76%, 22.04–31.01%, and 77.21–86.08%, respectively. (4) Conclusions: The optimized depth for side-deep fertilization was 10 cm. We would like to emphasize the impact of the paddy on various deep fertilizations and provide an important reference for developing precise fertilization in rice fields in this area.

Moss-dominated biocrusts (moss crusts) are a feasible approach for the ecological restoration of drylands, but difficulty obtaining inoculum severely limits the progress of large-scale field applications. Exogenous microorganisms could improve moss growth and be conducive to moss inoculum propagation. In this study, we investigated the growth-promoting effects and potential mechanisms of exogenous microorganism additives on moss crusts. We used an incubator study to examine the effects of inoculation by heterotrophic microorganisms (Streptomyces pactum, Bacillus megaterium) and autotrophic microorganisms (Chlorella vulgaris, Microcoleus vaginatus) combined with Artemisia sphaerocephala gum on the growth of Bryum argenteum, the dominant moss crusts species in sandy deserts. Amplicon sequencing (16S and 18S rRNA) and PICRUSt2 were used to illustrate the microbial community structure and potential function in the optimal treatment at different developmental stages. Our results showed that exogenous microorganisms significantly promoted moss growth and increased aboveground biomass. After 30 days of cultivation, the Streptomyces pactum (1 g kg–1 substrate) + Chlorella vulgaris (3.33 L m–2) treatment presented optimal moss coverage, height, and density of 97.14%, 28.31 mm, and 2.28 g cm–2, respectively. The best-performing treatment had a higher relative abundance of Streptophyta—involved in moss growth—than the control. The control had significantly higher soil organic carbon than the best-performing treatment on day 30. Exogenous microorganisms improved eukaryotic community diversity and richness and may enhance soil microbial functional and metabolic diversity, such as growth and reproduction, carbon fixation, and cellulose and lignin decomposition, based on functional predictions. In summary, we identified the growth-promoting mechanisms of exogenous additives, providing a valuable reference for optimizing propagation technology for moss inoculum.

Abstract Pressure nozzle is commonly used in the dust-reduction techniques by spraying of underground coal mines. Based on the internal structure, the pressure nozzle can be divided into the following types: spiral channel nozzle, tangential flow-guided nozzle and X-swirl nozzle. In order to provide better guidance on the selection of nozzles for the coal mine dust-reduction systems by spraying, we designed comparing experiments to study the atomization characteristics and dust-reduction performance of four commonly used nozzles in the coal mine underground with different internal structures. From the experimental results on the atomization characteristics, both the tangential flow-guided nozzle and the X-swirl nozzle have high flow coefficients. The atomization angle is the largest in the spiral non-porous nozzle, and smallest in both the X-swirl nozzle and the spiral porous nozzle. The spraying range and the droplet velocity are inversely proportional to the atomization angle. When the water pressure is low, the atomization performance of the spiral non-porous nozzle is the best among the four types of nozzles. The atomization performance of the X-swirl nozzle is superior to other types when the water pressure is high. Under the high water pressure, the particle size of the atomized droplets is smallest in the X-swirl nozzle. Through the experiments on the dust-reduction performance of the four types of nozzles and the comprehensive analysis, the X-swirl nozzle is recommended for the coal mine application site with low water pressure in the dust-reduction system, while at the sites with high water pressure, the spiral non-porous nozzle is recommended, which has the lowest water consumption and obvious economic advantages.

The identification of reliable indicators in the tumor microenvironment (TME) is critical for tumor prognosis. Tumor associated macrophages (TAMs) are the major component of non-tumor stromal cells in TME and have increasingly been recognized as a predictive biomarker for lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) prognosis. Here, we report the development of a prognosis model for LUAD using three immune-related genes (IRGs) detected in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) which potentially regulate TAMs in TME. In 497 LUAD patients, higher immune scores conferred better overall survival (OS). We identified 93 hub IRGs out of 234 for further prognostic significance. Among them, three IRGs (BTK, Cd1c, and S100P) were proved to be closely correlated to the prognosis of patients with LUAD. Moreover, the immune risk score (IRS) based on the gene expression level of the three IRGs was an independent prognostic factor for OS. Higher IRS predicted lower OS, higher mortality and worse tumor stage. With a good predictive ability [area under the ROC curve (AUC) in TCGA = 0.701, AUC in GEO = 0.722], the IRS contributed to a good risk stratification ability of the nomogram. Immunologically, the three IRGs were related to M1 macrophages and NK cell subsets in TME. Interestingly, by characterizing these immune components in situ we found that S100P is a driver for tumor cells to induce TAM migration and M2 polarization in the immunosuppressive tumor niche. We identified the key genes driving TAM migration and transformation and elucidated the immune landscape of LUAD. The data suggest that IRGs from TME have the potential to become indicators for estimating cancer prognosis and guiding individualized treatment.

For controlling heavy metal pollution, the utilization of carboxylic acids (CAs) combined with sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) for continuous and stable remediation of Cr (VI)-contaminated soil was comprehensively investigated. At pH 3, citrate and lactate had photocatalysis characteristics that enabled them to reduce high Cr (VI) concentrations. The reduction efficiencies of citrate and lactate were 99.16–100% and 80.78–87.00%, respectively. In the 40 mg L−1 Cr (VI) treatment, the total Cr adsorption rate of soil was 61.39–68.31%; as the pH increased, the Cr species adsorption capacity of the soil decreased. Following the addition of exogenous 100 mg L−1 Cr (VI), the Cr (VI) content of re-contaminated soil was reduced to 16.2734 ± 0.9505 mg L−1 or 15.8618 mg kg−1 by adding citrate or lactate. Then, using SRB via culture by mulching, addition of citrate or lactate markedly reduced the toxicity of Cr (VI). The respective citrate or lactate treatments had sulfur concentrations of sulfide from deep soil (high-sulfide layer) of 70.54 ± 17.59 and 98.85 ± 13.84 mg kg−1, respectively, and released Cr (VI) concentrations of 0.22 ± 0.25 and 3.64 ± 3.32 mg kg−1, respectively, due to oxidation upon air exposure. We used a two-stage remediation strategy for these treatments: First, CAs were used for photocatalytic reduction to reduce Cr (VI); next, CAs were utilized as carbon sources by SRB, which further reduced Cr (VI) and stabilized Cr species. In addition, citrate was more conducive than lactate to maintaining the stability of the soil microbial community. The results show that this method has potential in the remediation of Cr (VI)-contaminated soil.

Nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) losses from agroecosystems are dominant nonpoint pollution. To minimize the losses of N and P, the optimal depth of fertilization was explored using a soil column study with the red paddy soil as the research objects. The losses of N and P were measured under five depths of fertilization (0, 5, 7.5, 10, and 12.5 cm) as well as no fertilization. The results showed that ammonia volatilization was significantly decreased with increasing fertilization depth within 0–10 cm, and there was no significant difference among the 10 cm, 12.5 cm, and no-fertilization treatments. Comparing with surface fertilization (0 cm), N and P losses by runoff could be reduced by 30.7–67.1% and 96.9–98.7% respectively by fertilization at 5–12.5 cm. In addition, deep fertilization (5–12.5 cm) did not increase N and P losses by leaching at the depth of 40 cm. Total N and P contents in the tillage layer of soil were increased by 5.1 to 22.8% and by −1.0 to 7.5%, respectively. Fertilization at 10cm depth has the potential to minimal environmental impact in the red paddy soil of south China, at this depth, NH3 volatilization was reduced by 95.1%, and N and P losses by runoff were reduced by 62.0% and 98.4%, respectively, compared with surface fertilization.

Abstract Background “Nanomedicine” is the application of purposely designed nano-scale materials for improved therapeutic and diagnostic outcomes, which cannot be otherwise achieved using conventional delivery approaches. While “translation” in drug development commonly encompasses the steps from discovery to human clinical trials, a different set of translational steps is required in nanomedicine. Although significant development effort has been focused on nanomedicine, the translation from laboratory formulations up to large scale production has been one of the major challenges to the success of such nano-therapeutics. In particular, scale-up significantly alters momentum and mass transfer rates, which leads to different regimes for the formation of nanomedicines. Therefore, unlike the conventional definition of translational medicine, a key component of “bench-to-bedside” translational research in nanomedicine is the scale-up of the synthesis and processing of the nano-formulation to achieve precise control of the nanoscale properties. This consistency requires reproducibility of size, polydispersity and drug efficacy. Methods Here we demonstrate that Flash NanoPrecipitation (FNP) offers a scalable and continuous technique to scale up the production rate of nanoparticles from a laboratory scale to a pilot scale. FNP is a continuous, stabilizer-directed rapid precipitation process. Lumefantrine, an anti-malaria drug, was chosen as a representative drug that was processed into 200 nm nanoparticles with enhanced bioavailability and dissolution kinetics. Three scales of mixers, including a small-scale confined impinging jet mixer, a mid-scale multi-inlet vortex mixer (MIVM) and a large-scale multi-inlet vortex mixer, were utilized in the formulation. The production rate of nanoparticles was varied from a few milligrams in a laboratory batch mode to around 1 kg/day in a continuous large-scale mode, with the size and polydispersity similar at all scales. Results Nanoparticles of 200 nm were made at all three scales of mixers by operating at equivalent Reynolds numbers (dynamic similarity) in each mixer. Powder X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry demonstrated that the drugs were encapsulated in an amorphous form across all production rates. Next, scalable and continuous spray drying was applied to obtain dried powders for long-term storage stability. For dissolution kinetics, spray dried samples produced by the large-scale MIVM showed 100% release in less than 2 h in both fasted and fed state intestinal fluids, similar to small-batch low-temperature lyophilization. Conclusions These results validate the successful translation of a nanoparticle formulation from the discovery scale to the clinical scale. Coupling nanoparticle production using FNP processing with spray drying offers a continuous nanofabrication platform to scale up nanoparticle synthesis and processing into solid dosage forms.

Owing to the accuracy and flexibility, mobile advertising has become a very attractive marketing method based on smart mobile terminals. The more common mobile advertisement distribution methods are based on location and content. But most of them donart take into account the limited duration time of mobile users and the timeliness of advertising, which makes mobile advertisement distribution suffer from low propagation efficiency. To make up for this deficiency, we propose the advertisement platformars expected income maximization problem (EIMP), and prove its NP-hardness. As far as we know, EIMP is a combination of the 0–1 multi-dimensional and multiple knapsack problem, which is even harder. In dealing with this difficulty, we fortunately find that this problem could be transformed into a maximizing monotone submodular set function, which is subject to partition matroid constraints. Then we propose a simple but effective greedy algorithm TIMAO (Time-sensitive Mobile Advertisement Offloading) which has a constant approximation ratio of 1/3 to provide a performance guarantee for this issue. Finally, extensive evaluations are conducted. The results show that compared with the random selection method, TIMAO increases the expected income of the platform by about two times. And it achieves 99.2% of the near optimal results obtained by the CPLEX tool-box. Moreover, we propose an important metric, the duty cycle, to evaluate system performance in time domain. The results show that our scheme could increase the time duty cycle by about average 10% compared with the random selection.

Under the current rice cropping system, excessive nitrogen application has become a major issue that needs to be changed, and nitrogen reduction has become a hot research topic in recent years. The use of optimum planting density is becoming a common agronomic management system in addition to nitrogen reduction, especially under double cropping rice systems. In this paper, changes in rice yield, nitrogen-use efficiency (NUE) and net N mineralization under dense planting with a reduced nitrogen rate (DPRN) were studied. By comparing DPRN with high-nitrogen sparse planting (SPHN), we found that the population tiller number (tiller number per unit area) increased by 9–27% under DPRN cultivation. Nitrogen accumulation under DPRN treatment of double-cropped rice was basically stable. NUE under DPRN was significantly higher by 1.3–22.7% compared to SPHN. The partial factor productivity of applied N (PFPN) was significantly higher than that of SPHN, with an increase of 4.3–22.8%. The net N mineralized of double-cropped rice under DPRN increased at different stages, and the increase in late-season rice (LSR) was greater than that of early-season rice (ESR). The highest net N mineralized in double cropping rice at different stages was found in the dense planting treatment (DP) and N2 (120 kg N h−1). In conclusion, DPRN cultivation of double-cropped rice could be accepted as a proper management strategy for reducing nitrogen input, improving NUE and promoting soil nitrogen mineralization under given conditions.

Plant-specific TCP transcription factors play a key role in plant development and stress responses. Chrysanthemum nankingense shows higher cold tolerance than its ornamental polyploid counterpart. However, whether the TCP gene family plays a role in conferring cold tolerance upon C. nankingense remains unknown. Here, we identified 23 CnTCP genes in C. nankingense, systematically analyzed their phylogenetic relationships and synteny with TCPs from other species, and evaluated their expression profiles at low temperature. Phylogenetic analysis of the protein sequences suggested that CnTCP proteins fall into two classes and three clades, with a typical bHLH domain. However, differences between C. nankingense and Arabidopsis in predicted protein structure and binding sites suggested a unique function of CnTCPs in C. nankingense. Furthermore, expression profiles showed that expression of most CnTCPs were downregulated under cold conditions, suggesting their importance in plant responses to cold stress. Notably, expression of miR319 and of its predicted target genes, CnTCP2/4/14, led to fast responses to cold. Overexpression of Arabidopsis CnTCP4 led to hypersensitivity to cold, suggesting that CnTCP4 might play a negative role in C. nankingense responses to cold stress. Our results provide a foundation for future functional genomic studies on this gene family in chrysanthemum.

As a new type of atomizing nozzle with superior atomizing performance, the liquid-medium ultrasonic atomization nozzle has been widely applied in the field of spray dust reduction. In this study, in order to establish a mathematical model for predicting the Sauter mean diameter (SMD) of such nozzles, the interaction between the SMD of the nozzle and the three influencing factors, i.e., air pressure, water pressure, and outlet diameter were investigated based on the custom-designed spraying experiment platform and orthogonal design methods. Through range analysis, it was obtained that the three parameters affecting the SMD of the nozzle are in the order of air pressure > water pressure > outlet diameter. On this basis, using the multivariate nonlinear regression method, the mathematical model for predicting the SMD of the nozzle was constructed. Comparison of the experimental results with the predicted values of the SMD of the nozzle by the multivariate nonlinear regression mathematical model, showed strong similarity with an average relative error of only about 5%. Therefore, the established mathematical model in this paper can be used to predict and calculate the droplet size for liquid-medium ultrasonic atomizing nozzles.

The attainment of both strength and toughness is of vital importance to most structural materials, although unfortunately they are generally mutually exclusive. Here, we report that simultaneous increases in strength and toughness in a high-strength low-alloy (HSLA) steel were achieved by tailoring the heterogeneous microstructure consisting of soft intercritical ferrite and hard martensite via intercritical heat treatment. The heterogeneous microstructure features were studied from the perspective of morphology and crystallography to uncover the effect on mechanical properties. Specifically, the volume fraction of martensite increased with increasing annealing temperature, which resulted in increased back stress and effective stress, and thereby an improved strength-ductility combination. The enrichment of carbon and alloying elements in the martensite was lowered with the increase in annealing temperature. As a result, the hardness difference between the intercritical ferrite and martensite was reduced. In addition, the globular reversed austenite preferentially grew into the adjacent austenite grain that held no Kurdjumov-Sachs (K-S) orientation relationship with it, which effectively refined the coarse prior austenite grains and increased the density of high angle grain boundaries. The synergy of these two factors contributed to the improved low-temperature toughness. This work demonstrates a strategy for designing heterostructured HSLA steels with superior mechanical properties.

As mobile social networks grow rapidly, influential user identification has attracted much more attention. Previous studies either need large message overhead to achieve global maxima in influence computation or focus on relatively stable network topology. To tackle the dynamic topology, we present an influential user identification scheme that fully exploits the active mobile users, in which the stable-state property could be leveraged under information potential construction scheme. We also propose an efficient routing algorithm for reaching the global maxima without depending on specific routing protocols. The proposed scheme is validated with extensive simulations using both synthetic random-walk and real-world mobility traces. The results demonstrate that it achieves considerable performance on influential user identification and route construction with little overhead. Furthermore, we present a case of mobile data offloading, and the results show that our scheme could reduce the efficient data traffic by up to 79.2%, compared with a baseline without data offloading.

Largely due to the heterogeneity of environmental parameters and the logistical difficulty of moving photosynthetic equipment in the paddy fields, effective measurement of lowland rice photosynthesis is still a challenge. In this study, we showed that measuring detached rice leaves in the laboratory can not effectively represent the parameters measured in situ. We further described a new indoor facility, high-efficiency all-weather photosynthetic measurement system (HAPS), and the associated measurement protocol to enable whole-weather measurement of photosynthetic parameters of rice grown in the paddy fields. Using HAPS, we can conduct photosynthetic measurements with a time span much longer than that appropriate for the outdoor measurements. Comparative study shows that photosynthetic parameters obtained with the new protocol can effectively represent the parameters in the fields. There was much less standard deviation for measurements using HAPS compared to the outdoor measurements, no matter for technical replications of each recording or for biological replications of each leaf position. This new facility and protocol enables rice photosynthetic physiology studies to be less tough but more efficient, and provides a potential option for large scale studies of rice leaf photosynthesis.

Quantitative real-time reverse-transcriptase PCR (qRT-PCR) has been frequently used for detecting gene expression. To obtain reliable results, selection of suitable reference genes is a fundamental and necessary step. Garlic (Allium sativum), a member from Alliaceae family, has been used both as a food flavoring and as a traditional medicine. In the present study, garlic plants were exposed to salt stress (200 mM NaCl) for 0, 1, 4 and 12 h, and garlic roots, bulbs, and leaves were harvested for subsequent analysis. The expression stability of eight candidate reference genes, eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4α (eIF-4α), actin (ACTIN), tubulin β-7 (TUB7), TAP42-interacting protein of 41 kDa (TIP41), glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH), SAND family protein (SAND), elongation factor 1 alpha (EF-1α), and protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A) were evaluated by geNorm, NormFinder, and BestKeeper. All genes tested displayed variable expression profiles under salt stress. In the leaf and root group, ACTIN was the best reference gene for normalizing gene expression. In garlic clove, ACTIN and SAND were the least variable, and were suitable for gene expression studies under salt stress; these two genes also performed well in all samples tested. Based on our results, we recommend that it is essential to use specific reference genes in different situations to obtain accurate results. Using a combination of multiple stable reference genes, such as ACTIN and SAND, to normalize gene expression is encouraged. The results from the study will be beneficial for accurate determination of gene expression in garlic and other plants.

A limited number of studies have indicated an association between isoleucyl-tRNA synthetase 2 (IARS2) and tumorigenesis. We evaluated IARS2 protein expression in lung tumor tissues and paired non-tumor tissues. We found higher IARS2 expression in the tumor tissues, which was associated with the late Tumor and Node stages of the Tumor, Node, Metastasis staging system. Silencing IARS2 inhibited the activity of A549 and H1299 cells, resulting in G0/G1 stasis of A549 cells and mitochondrial apoptosis. IARS2 silencing was also found to inhibit NSCLC tumor growth in nude mice. Complementary DNA microarray analysis revealed 742 differentially expressed genes (507 upregulated and 235 downregulated) in IARS2-silenced A549 cells compared to controls. Ingenuity Pathway Analysis of the differential expression data suggested that multiple pathways are associated with IARS2 silencing in NSCLC cells; upstream analysis predicted the activation or inhibition of transcriptional regulators. Correlation analysis revealed that AKT and MTOR activities were significantly inhibited in IARS2-silenced cells, but were partially restored by the AKT-stimulating agent SC79. IARS2 appears to regulate lung cancer cell proliferation via the AKT/MTOR pathway. Our results help clarify the complex roles of IARS2 in tumorigenesis and suggest that it may be a novel regulator of lung cancer development.

To analyze three row orientations (south-north, east-west, southwestern 20°) and two row spacings ('65 + 65', '160 + 40'), we investigated the effect of row orientation and planting pattern on photosynthetic performance, physiological and biochemical indicators related to the aging of leaves. Results revealed that during maturity stage, in north-south and east-west, the initial fluorescence (Fo) at '65 + 65' were higher than those under'160 + 40'; the maximum quantum yield of PS2 photochemistry(ΦP0), basal quantum yield of non-photochemical processes in PS2(ΦN0)of the lower leaves and photosynthetic rate of the upper and ear leaves under'160 + 40'were higher than those under'65 + 65'. The polyphenoloxidase (POD) activities of leaves at different positions under '160 + 40' were higher than that under'65 + 65', while the malondialdehyde (MDA) content was lower. The photosynthesis rate, superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) activity of leaves at different positions under southwestern 20° '160 + 40' were higher than others. Whilst MDA content '160 + 40' were lower. Therefore, in De Hui City, Jilin Province, southwestern 20° '160 + 40' delayed leaf senescence at the late stage of growth of maize, as well as the effect of increasing maize yield was most obvious.

This study aimed to identify differences of peptide profiles in stimulated whole saliva among children with and without occurrence of new carious lesions, and to provide a simple way for early diagnosis and prevention of the relapse of severe early childhood caries (s-ECC). Overall, 26 children aged 3-4 years were selected out from all the children in the kindergarten to be involved in the present study, among them 13 were diagnosed as s-ECC and underwent dental treatment, whilst the other 13 were matched by age and sex as control. Stimulated whole saliva samples were collected before treatment, and at 10 days and 4 months after treatment. During follow-up, 7 of the 13 children with s-ECC showed a relapse, and the new carious lesions were then treated. Salivary peptides were detected using the technique of magnetic beads combined with matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS). Fifteen peptides showed significant differences in the group without occurrence of new carious lesions (CH group). On comparing the CH group and the other group with occurrence of new carious lesions (CR group), no significant differences were observed before treatment, whereas certain peptides showed significant differences at both 10 days and 4 months after treatment. Two peptides (experimental m/z values: 3162.0 Da and 3290.4 Da) exhibited a consistent tendency in cross-sectional and longitudinal comparisons among these groups; these may be associated with recurrence of s-ECC. Based on our findings, it is concluded that different saliva peptide peaks can be detected in s-ECC using MALDI-TOF MS combined with magnetic beads. Moreover, 2 specific peptides with m/z values 3162.0 Da and 3290.4 Da could be promising salivary protein biomarkers for diagnosis of recurrence of s-ECC.

Video streaming has become a kind of main information carried by Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). Unlike single transmission, when a cluster of UAVs execute the real-time video shooting and uploading mission, the insufficiency of wireless channel resources will lead to bandwidth competition among them and the competition will bring bad watching experience to the audience. Therefore, how to allocate uplink bandwidth reasonably in the cluster has become a crucial problem. In this paper, an intelligent and distributed allocation mechanism is designed for improving users’ video viewing satisfication. Each UAV in a cluster can independently adjust and select its video encoding rate so as to achieve flexible uplink allocation. This choice relies neither on the existence of the central node, nor on the large amount of information interaction between UAVs. Firstly, in order to distinguish video service from ordinary data, a utility function for the overall Quality of Experience (QoE) is proposed. Then, a potential game model is built around the problem. By a distributed self-learning algorithm with low complexity, all UAVs can iteratively update their own bandwidth strategy in a short time until equilibria, thus achieving the total quality optimization of all videos. Numeric simulation results indicate, after a few iterations, that the algorithm converges to a set of correlation equilibria. This mechanism not only solves the uplink allocation problem of video streaming in UAV cluster, but also guarantees the wireless resource providers in distinguishing and ensuring network service quality.

Carrot, a biennial herb of the Apiaceae family, is among the most important vegetable crops in the world. In this study, nine candidate reference genes (GAPDH, ACTIN, eIF-4α, PP2A, SAND, TIP41, UBQ, EF-1α, and TUB) were cloned from carrot. Carrot plants were subjected to abiotic stresses (heat, cold, salt, and drought) and hormone stimuli (gibberellin, salicylic acid, methyl jasmonate, and abscisic acid). The expression profiles of the candidate reference genes were evaluated in three technical and biological replicates. Real-time qPCR data analyses were performed using three commonly used Excel-based applets namely, BestKeeper, geNorm, and NormFinder. ACTIN and TUB were the most stable genes identified among all sample groups, but individual analysis revealed changes in their expression profiles. GAPDH displayed the maximum stability for most of single stresses. To further validate the suitability of the reference genes identified in this study, the expression profile of DcDREB-A1 gene (homolog of AtDREB-A1 gene of Arabidophsis) was studied in carrot. The appropriate reference genes were selected that showed stable expression under the different experimental conditions.

Parsley is an important biennial Apiaceae species that is widely cultivated as herb, spice, and vegetable. Previous studies on parsley principally focused on its physiological and biochemical properties, including phenolic compound and volatile oil contents. However, little is known about the molecular and genetic properties of parsley. In this study, 23,686,707 high-quality reads were obtained and assembled into 81,852 transcripts and 50,161 unigenes for the first time. Functional annotation showed that 30,516 unigenes had sequence similarity to known genes. In addition, 3,244 putative simple sequence repeats were detected in curly parsley. Finally, 1,569 of the identified unigenes belonged to 58 transcription factor families. Various abiotic stresses have a strong detrimental effect on the yield and quality of parsley. AP2/ERF transcription factors have important functions in plant development, hormonal regulation, and abiotic response. A total of 88 putative AP2/ERF factors were identified from the transcriptome sequence of parsley. Seven AP2/ERF transcription factors were selected in this study to analyze the expression profiles of parsley under different abiotic stresses. Our data provide a potentially valuable resource that can be used for intensive parsley research.

Trihelix transcription factors are thought to feature a typical DNA-binding trihelix (helix-loop-helix-loop-helix) domain that binds specifically to the GT motif, a light-responsive DNA element. Members of the trihelix family are known to function in a number of processes in plants. Here, we characterize 20 trihelix family genes in the important ornamental plant chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum morifolium). Based on transcriptomic data, 20 distinct sequences distributed across four of five groups revealed by a phylogenetic tree were isolated and amplified. The phylogenetic analysis also identified four pairs of orthologous proteins shared by Arabidopsis and chrysanthemum and five pairs of paralogous proteins in chrysanthemum. Conserved motifs in the trihelix proteins shared by Arabidopsis and chrysanthemum were analyzed using MEME, and further bioinformatic analysis revealed that 16 CmTHs can be targeted by 20 miRNA families and that miR414 can target 9 CmTHs. qPCR results displayed that most chrysanthemum trihelix genes were highly expressed in inflorescences, while 20 CmTH genes were in response to phytohormone treatments and abiotic stresses. This work improves our understanding of the various functions of trihelix gene family members in response to hormonal stimuli and stress.

Magnesium-based cementing material is a new type of cementitious material based on active MgO. It features rapid solidification, early strength and fire resistance, exhibiting significant advantages in repair and emergency repair projects. This study divided magnesium-based cementitious materials into three types according to the differences in calcination temperature of MgO and blending solution : magnesium oxychloride cement, magnesium oxysulfate cement, magnesium phosphate cement. We conducted detailed discussion and review of their hydration mechanism and durability. The hydration of magnesium oxychloride cement lies in the hydration of ternary system of MgO, MgCl2 and H2O. The hardened system of magnesium oxysulfate cement shows low strength due to the existence of free MgSO4 in the hydration process. The hydration rate of magnesium phosphate cement delayed owing to the overlapping of exothermic of MgO solution and sharp reaction between MgO and phosphate, which leads to excessive hydration and over-concentrated heat release. Carbonation reduces the pores contents, optimizes the internal pore structure, and improves the strength and durability of magnesium-based cementitious materials. The magnesium-based cementitious materials have poor water resistance, among which no unified understanding has been reached as to the reasons for magnesium oxychloride cement. For magnesium oxysulfate cement, the unreacted MgO reacts with water to form Mg(OH)2, and the volume expansion leads to the cracking of the hardened matrix. In the case of magnesium phosphate cement, the phosphate can lead to the dissolution of hydration products and unreacted MgO.

Flammulina velutipes mycorrhizae have increasingly been produced with increasing of F. velutipes production. A mouse model was thus used to examine potential effect of F. velutipes mycorrhizae on the immune function. Fifty female Wistar mice (5-weeks-old) weighed 15–20 g were randomly allocated into five groups. Polysaccharide of F. velutipes mycorrhizae were treated with mice and mice spleen lymphocytes. The levels of CD3+, CD4+, and CD8+ T lymphocyte, interleukin-2 (IL-2), and tumor necrosis factor-a (TNF-α) were determined. The results showed that the proportions of CD3+, and CD4+ T lymphocyte, the ratio of CD4+/CD8+, and the levels of IL-2 and TNF-a were significantly increased in polysaccharide of F. velutipes mycorrhizae, while the proportion of CD8+ T lymphocyte was decreased in polysaccharide of F. velutipes mycorrhizae-dose dependent manner. Our findings indicated that a long term exposure of polysaccharide of F. velutipes mycorrhizae could activate the T lymphocyte immune function. Polysaccharide of F. velutipes mycorrhizae was expected to develop into the immune health products.

In order to study the performance of different elimination methods on the distance estimation forward error caused by the non-line-of-sight (NLOS) propagation of radio signals, this paper is based on the mean value, root mean square delay spread, skewness, kurtosis and peak-to-average ratio extracted from the channel state information (CSI), and combine it with the logarithmic estimated distance based on the time of arrival (TOA) as the feature input vector, through the establishment of Gaussian process regression (GPR), least square support vector machine regression (LS-SVMR) and BP neural network training model for experimental performance comparison. Through the actual measurement of the 2.4 to 5.4 GHz wireless propagation channel in the typical indoor environment, the error elimination experiment is carried out to compare the NLOS error elimination performance under different input characteristics, different bandwidths and different frequency bands. The experimental results show that the GPR model has the best NLOS error elimination performance, and the extracted CSI multi-features as the input of the GPR model can reduce the average absolute error and root mean square error by 71.12% and 81.36%, respectively. As the bandwidth continues to increase, the error elimination performance is gradually optimized. By increasing the bandwidth, the NLOS positioning error when the input features are less can be effectively improved. The positioning error of the low frequency band is smaller than that of the high frequency band under the multi-features, so the combination of all available frequency bands can eliminate the NLOS positioning error better than a single frequency band.

In this study, different processes are performed for the preparation of natural rubber latex (NRL)/silica composites. A novel approach is to use spray sputtering technology combined with in situ method to improve the dispersion of silica in rubber latex matrix and further improve the properties of vulcanizates. Results show that in situ silica in rubber matrix prepared from NH4Cl and Na2SiO3 has better Payen effect than other processes. Meanwhile, when the in situ silica reached 10 phr in the rubber matrix, the dosage can suitably match the dispersion capacity of the spray sputtering process with superior comprehensive mechanical properties. Compared with the traditional precipitation method, the tensile strength and tear strength of the silica/NR composites prepared by spray sputtering technology combined with in situ method were increased by 34.7% and 19.7%.

In the information-based war era, OODA command and control loop is widely used in military simulation. The flexibility and efficient parallelism of distributed simulation promote the development of combat simulation. According to the requirement of combat simulation, this paper studies the core technology of distributed simulation system, which is time management algorithm. Based on the characteristics of OODA command and control loop, this paper proposes an adaptive moving time window algorithm. The algorithm adaptively adjusts the size of time window according to the model, which can avoid frequent synchronization and clear the memory accurately. In order to further optimize the time management algorithm, the author also proposes an improved global virtual time algorithm to improve the blocking process in global virtual time synchronization calculation. Through detailed analysis of the steps and principles of the algorithm, and verification by an example, the results show that the algorithm can effectively guarantee the running of distributed simulation, and the running speed is better than other traditional time management algorithms.

Thermo-activated Building Systems is an energy-efficient envelope insulation technology. In this paper, the Modular Thermo-activated Building Systems (MTABS) is proposed to enable flexible installation and maintenance of embedded pipe. Two scaled-down experimental rooms of the same size were built, in which the normal energy-saving wall (NW) and the MTABS wall were applied to the south-facing wall respectively. The MTABS for impacting on the indoor thermal environment and energy saving were measured in continuous low-grade heat injection mode under winter outdoor conditions in Hefei, and were analyzed in comparison with the NW. Experimental results show that MTABS can effectively improve the indoor thermal environment. The average temperature difference between indoor and outdoor of MTABS is 6.72 °C higher than that of NW; when the heat source temperature is 25 °C, the cumulative daily heat fluxes of MTABS is 44.0 kWh·m-2, which providing auxiliary indoor heating while significantly reduces energy consumption.

Machine translation (MT) is the process of using a computer to convert one language into another language with the same semantics. With the introduction of neural network, neural machine translation (NMT), as a powerful machine translation technology, has achieved remarkable success in the field of automatic translation and artificial intelligence. Due to the problem of redundant parameters and structure in traditional neural translation models, knowledge distillation (KD) technology is proposed to compress the model and accelerate the inference of neural machine translation, which has attracted wide attention in the field of machine learning and natural language processing. This paper systematically investigates and compares various translation models with introduction of know-ledge distillation from the perspectives of evaluation indicators and technical innovations. Firstly, this paper briefly reviews the development process, mainstream frameworks and evaluation indicators of machine translation. Secondly, the knowledge distillation technology is introduced in detail. Thirdly, the development direction of neural machine translation based on knowledge distillation is detailed from four perspectives: multi-language model, multi-modal translation, low-resource language, autoregressive and non-autoregressive, and the research status of other fields is briefly introduced. Finally, the problems of existing large language models, zero-resource languages and multi-modal machine translation are analyzed, and the development trend of neural machine translation is prospected.

Abstract Background Malignant liver tumors seriously endanger human health. Among different therapeutic approaches, high‐frequency irreversible electroporation (H‐FIRE) is a recently emerging tumor ablation technique. The objective of this study was to evaluate the feasibility and safety of ultrasound‐guided percutaneous H‐FIRE using four electrode needles in porcine livers. Methods Twelve experimental pigs underwent percutaneous H‐FIRE ablation using a compound steep‐pulse therapeutic device. Liver tissues adjacent to the gallbladder, blood vessels, and bile ducts were selected as the ablation targets. Pigs were randomly divided into three groups: (1) immediately after ablation (N = 4), (2) 2 days after ablation (N = 4), and (3) 7 days after ablation (N = 4). Blood routine, liver and kidney function, and myocardial enzyme levels were measured before and after ablation. Ultrasound, contrast‐enhanced ultrasound (CEUS), contrast‐enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and hematoxylin–eosin staining were performed to evaluate the ablation performance. Results Ultrasound‐guided percutaneous H‐FIRE ablations using four electrode needles were successfully performed in all 12 experimental pigs. The general conditions of the pigs, including postoperative activities and feeding behaviors, were normal, with no significant changes compared with the preoperative conditions. The imaging features of ultrasound, CEUS, and MRI demonstrated no significant changes in the gallbladder walls, bile ducts, or blood vessels close to the ablation areas. Laboratory tests showed that liver function indices and myocardial enzymes increased temporarily after H‐FIRE ablation, but decreased to normal levels at 7 days after ablation. Histopathological examinations of porcine liver specimens showed that this technique could effectively ablate the target areas without damaging the surrounding or internal vascular systems and gallbladder. Conclusions This study demonstrated the feasibility and safety of ultrasound‐guided percutaneous H‐FIRE ablation in porcine livers in vivo, and proposed a four‐needle method to optimize its clinical application.

Abstract The stacking of twisted two-dimensional (2D) layered materials has led to the creation of moiré superlattices, which have become a new platform for the study of quantum optics. The strong coupling of moiré superlattices can result in flat minibands that boost electronic interactions and generate interesting strongly correlated states, including unconventional superconductivity, Mott insulating states, and moiré excitons. However, the impact of adjusting and localizing moiré excitons in Van der Waals heterostructures has yet to be explored experimentally. Here, we present experimental evidence of the localization-enhanced moiré excitons in the twisted WSe2/WS2/WSe2 heterotrilayer with type-II band alignments. At low temperatures, we observed multiple excitons splitting in the twisted WSe2/WS2/WSe2 heterotrilayer, which is manifested as multiple sharp emission lines, in stark contrast to the moiré excitonic behavior of the twisted WSe2/WS2 heterobilayer (which has a linewidth 4 times wider). This is due to the enhancement of the two moiré potentials in the twisted heterotrilayer, enabling highly localized moiré excitons at the interface. The confinement effect of moiré potential on moiré excitons is further demonstrated by changes in temperature, laser power, and valley polarization. Our findings offer a new approach for localizing moiré excitons in twist-angle heterostructures, which has the potential for the development of coherent quantum light emitters.

Twisted 2D materials have recently emerged as a controllable quantum simulator platform. Here, the authors apply the same approach to tune the edge states of zigzag graphene nanoribbons, showing a unique degree of freedom represented by the lateral stacking offset of the 1D nanostructures.

Abstract The developmental transcriptomes of Sarcomyxa edulis were assessed to explore the molecular mechanisms underlying lignocellulose degradation. Six stages were analyzed, spanning the entire developmental process: growth of mycelium until occupying half the bag (B1), mycelium under low-temperature stimulation after occupying the entire bag (B2), appearance of mycelium in primordia (B3), primordia (B4), mycelium at the harvest stage (B5), and mature fruiting body (B6). Samples from all six developmental stages were used for transcriptome sequencing, with three biological replicates for all experiments. A co-expression network of weighted genes associated with extracellular enzyme physiological traits was constructed using weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA). We obtained 19 gene co-expression modules significantly associated with lignocellulose degradation. In addition, 12 key genes and 8 kinds of TF families involved in lignocellulose degradation pathways were discovered from the four modules that exhibited the highest correlation with the target traits. These results provide new insights that advance our understanding of the molecular genetic mechanisms of lignocellulose degradation in S. edulis to facilitate its utilization by the edible mushroom industry.
