Chemical warfare agents (CWAs) refer to toxic chemical substances used in warfare. Recently, CWAs have been a critical threat for public safety due to their high toxicity. Metal–organic frameworks have exhibited great potential in protecting against CWAs due to their high crystallinity, stable structure, large specific surface area, high porosity, and adjustable structure. However, the metal clusters of most reported MOFs might be highly consumed when applied in CWA hydrolysis. Herein, we fabricated a two-dimensional piezoresponsive UiO-66-F4 and subjected it to CWA simulant dimethyl-4-nitrophenyl phosphate (DMNP) detoxification under sonic conditions. The results show that sonication can effectively enhance the removal performance under optimal conditions; the reaction rate constant k was upgraded 45% by sonication. Moreover, the first-principle calculation revealed that the band gap could be further widened with the application of mechanical stress, which was beneficial for the generation of 1O2, thus further upgrading the detoxification performance toward DMNP. This work demonstrated that mechanical vibration could be introduced to CWA protection, but promising applications are rarely reported.

Chemical warfare agents (CWAs) have brought great threats to human life and social stability, and it is critical to investigate protective materials. MOF (metal–organic framework) gels are a class with an extended MOF architecture that are mainly formed using metal–ligand coordination as an effective force to drive gelation, and these gels combine the unique characteristics of MOFs and organic gel materials. They have the advantages of a hierarchically porous structure, a large specific surface area, machinable block structures and rich metal active sites, which inherently meet the requirements for adsorption and catalytic detoxification of CWAs. A series of advances have been made in the adsorption and catalytic detoxification of MOF gels as chemical warfare agents; however, overall, they are still in their infancy. This review briefly introduces the latest advances in MOF gels, including pure MOF gels and MOF composite gels, and discusses the application of MOF gels in the adsorption and catalytic detoxification of CWAs. Meanwhile, the influence of microstructures (pore structures, metal active site, etc.) on the detoxification performance of protective materials is also discussed, which is of great significance in the exploration of high-efficiency protective materials. Finally, the review looks ahead to next priorities. Hopefully, this review can inspire more and more researchers to enrich the performance of MOF gels for applications in chemical protection and other purification and detoxification processes.

In nature, some organisms have the ability to camouflage to adapt to environmental changes; they blend with the environment by changing their skin colors. Such a phenomenon is of great significance for the research of adaptive camouflage materials. In this study, we propose a novel design scheme for the study of angle-independent photonic materials and successfully prepare an electrically tunable multi-color display angle-independent inverse opal photonic gel (IOPG). After photopolymerization of hydroxyethyl methacrylate with ionizable monomer acrylic acid (AA) in a long-range disordered opal template and etching, the angle-independent inverse opal photonic gel is obtained, presenting a single structural color. The electrically responsive color changes can be achieved at different angles. The color of the disordered AA-IOPG changes from green to blue-green when applying +4 V bias voltage and from green to orange when applying −4 V bias voltage. The electrochromism of the disordered AA-IOPG is mainly due to the local pH change caused by water electrolysis under bias voltage, which leads to a change of the swelling ratio. The disordered AA-IOPG shows high color tunability and durability through repeated opposite bias voltage tests, indicating that it is a promising conductive photonic material.

A sensitive and flexible detection method for organophosphorus pesticides (OPs) detection is a crucial request to avoid their further expanded pollution. Herein, an acetylcholinesterase (AChE) electrochemical sensor, based on the co-modification of ZIF-8 and graphene (GR), was constructed for the detection of OPs. ZIF-8/GR composite can provide a stable and biocompatible environment for the loading of AChE and can accelerate the chemical reaction on the electrode surface. After optimization, the linear detection range of the constructed AChE-CS/GR/ZIF-8/GCE sensor for ICP was 0.5–100 ng/mL (1.73–345.7 nM), and the limit of detection was 0.18 ng/mL (0.62 nM). Moreover, high sensitivity and high specificity of the sensor were also achieved in actual cabbage and tap water samples. Therefore, it has great potential for the application of organophosphorus pesticide residue analysis.

Adding inorganic fillers to polymer electrolytes is one of the main means to improve ionic conductivity. However, the filler will aggregate, causing the problem of incompatibility between the electrolyte and the metal lithium negative electrode. According to reports, the flaky structure of graphene oxide (GO) has the characteristics of large specific surface area and stable performance, which has attracted widespread attention as a filler for polymer electrolytes. However, the electrolyte membrane has poor compatibility with lithium negative electrodes when GO as a filler, which is not conducive to the full performance of lithium batteries. In this paper, we grafted polyethylene oxide (PEO) on the surface of GO (the product is referred to as GO@PEO) to improving the dispersibility of the filler and the compatibility of the gel polymer electrolyte (GPE) with lithium metal . It is worth that after GO grafting PEO, the impedance of the interface between GPE and lithium metal is significantly reduced, and the compatibility of the electrolyte with the lithium negative electrode is significantly improved. Assembled into Li/ Li battery, the surface current cycle is stable, up to 1 mA cm ^−2 . GO@PEO further improves the ionic conductivity of the ion conductivity up to 1.6 mS cm ^−1 . Further prepared into LiFePO _4 (LFP)/Li battery, GPE-GO@PEO showed excellent cycle stability and the discharge specific capacity retention rate was 95.6% after 100 cycles. The rate performance of the battery is also significantly improved. At 5C, the discharge specific capacity of the LFP/Li battery remains 40 mAh g ^−1 .

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been used in adsorption, separation, catalysis, sensing, photo/electro/magnetics, and biomedical fields because of their unique periodic pore structure and excellent properties and have become a hot research topic in recent years. Ball milling is a method of small pollution, short time-consumption, and large-scale synthesis of MOFs. In recent years, many important advances have been made. In this paper, the influencing factors of MOFs synthesized by grinding were reviewed systematically from four aspects: auxiliary additives, metal sources, organic linkers, and reaction specific conditions (such as frequency, reaction time, and mass ratio of ball and raw materials). The prospect for the future development of the synthesis of MOFs by grinding was proposed.

Nanoscale lanthanide-containing metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have more and more interest due to their great properties and potential applications, but how to construct them easily is still challenging. Here, we present a facile and rapid synthesis of Eu(III)-containing Nanoscale MOF (denoted as NMOF) under ultrasonic irradiation. The effect of the ratio and the addition order of metal ions and linkers on the morphology and size of MOFs was investigated. It is found that both of the ratio and the addition order can affect the morphology and size of 1.4-benzenedicarboxylic acid(H2BDC) -based MOFs, but they show no evident influence on that of H2aBDC-based MOFs. Zr-containing metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) exhibit a good performance of catalyzing the hydrolysis of chemical warfare agents, which is closely related to the size of MOF particles and its defects, but these two factors are often intertwined. In this article, we synthesized UiO-66-NH2 nanoparticles using a microwave-assisted hydrothermal method. By using a new modulator 4-Fluoro-3-Formyl-Benzoic Acid (FFBA) in different proportions, MOF particles with the same defect degree but different scales and those with similar sizes but different defect degrees can be obtained. The performance of the obtained MOF particles to catalyze the hydrolysis of the nerve agent simulant, dimethyl 4-nitrophenyl phosphate (DMNP), was investigated, and the effects of single factors of size or defect were compared for the first time. As the size of the obtained MOF particles increased from 81 nm to 159 nm, the catalytic degradation efficiency toward DMNP gradually decreased, and the half-life increased from 3.9 min to 11.1 min. For MOFs that have similar crystal sizes, the catalytic degradation half-life of MOF3 is only 5 min, which is much smaller than that of MOF5 due to the defects increase from 1.2 to 1.8 per Zr6 cluster.

A mechanical ball milling method for ultrafast synthesis of a nickel-based metal organic framework (Ni-MOF) has been proposed. The Ni-MOF was successfully synthesized in merely one minute without any solvent, additives, or preliminary preparation. The effect of milling time, mechano-frequency, type of assistant liquid, and amount of assistant water were systematically explored. It was found that the product can be obtained even only at a mechano-frequency of 10 Hz within one minute without any external solvent-assist, which indicated that the crystal water present in the nickel precursor was sufficient to promote MOF formation. Increasing the milling time, raising the mechano-frequency, and the addition of assistant solvent could promote the reaction and increase the yield. The method is rapid, highly efficient, eco-friendly, and has great scalability. The product generated within merely one minute even exhibited high capacitance.

A biosensor based on a combination of cytochrome c (Cyt c), electrochemical reduced graphene oxides (ERGO), and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was fabricated. The proposed biosensor electrode was denoted as GCE/ERGO-Nafion/AuNPs/Cyt c/Nafion, where ERGO-Nafion was deposited by dropping graphene oxides-Nafion mixed droplet first and following electrochemical reduction, AuNPs were directly deposited on the surface of the ERGO-Nafion modified electrode by electrochemical reduction, and other components were deposited by the dropping-dry method. The effect of the deposition amount of AuNPs on direct electrochemistry of Cyt c in the proposed electrode was investigated. The hydrogen peroxide was taken to evaluate the performance of the proposed biosensor. The results showed that the biosensor has great analytical performance, including a high sensitivity, a wide linear range, a low detection limit, and good stability, reproducibility, and reliability.

Herein, a facile dopamine assisted one-pot synthesis approach is proposed for the preparation of porous carbon with a specific surface area (SSA) up to 2593 m2/g through the direct pyrolysis of a mixture of glucose, NH4Cl, and dopamine hydrochloride (DAH). The glucose is adopted as the carbon source and foaming agent, NH4Cl is used as the blowing agent, and DAH is served as collaborative carbon precursor as well as the nitrogen source for the first time. The effect of dopamine on the component, structure, and SSA of the as-prepared porous carbon materials are systematically studied. The moderate addition of dopamine, which influences the condensation and polymerization of glucose, matches better with ammonium salt decomposition. The SSA of porous carbon increases first and then decreases with the increasing amount of dopamine. In our case, the porous carbon produced with 5 wt% dopamine (PC-5) achieves the maximum SSA of up to 2593 m2/g. Accordingly, it also shows the greatest electrochemical performance. The PC-5 shows a capacitance of 96.7 F/g calculated from the discharge curve at 1 A/g. It also has a good capacitive rate capacity, the specific capacitance can still maintain 80%, even at a high current density of 10 A/g. Moreover, PC-5 exhibits a good cycling stability of 98.1% capacitive retention after 1000 cycles. The proposed method may show promising prospects for preparing porous carbon materials as advanced energy storage materials, storage, and catalyst supports.

Homogeneous metal-organic frameworks (MOFs)-based optical thin films have attracted increasing attention, since they can potentially be used as active components in optical/opt-electrical devices, and how to fabricate MOF thin films with high quality is the premise of practically using them. Herein, five fabrication methods of MOF films are systematically investigated and compared from the aspects of appearance, reflectivity, micro-morphology, surface roughness, and optical properties of the films. The famous robust Zr-based MOF, UiO-66 (UiO = University of Oslo) is chosen as a model, and the five methods are spin-coating, dip-coating, self-assembly, direct growth, and the stepwise layer by layer growth method. This study provides fundamental support for the application of MOFs in the optical field.

Optical properties, which determine the application of optical devices in different fields, are the most significant properties of optical thin films. In recent years, Metal-organic framework (MOF)-based optical thin films have attracted increasing attention because of their novel optical properties and important potential applications in optical and photoelectric devices, especially optical thin films with tunable optical properties. This study reports the first example of tuning the optical properties of a MOF-based optical thin film via post-modification. The MOF-based optical thin film was composed of NH2-MIL-53(Al) nanorods (NRs) (MIL: Materials from Institute Lavoisier), and was constructed via a spin-coating method. Three aldehydes with different lengths of carbon chains were chosen to modify the MOF optical thin film to tune their optical properties. After post-modification, the structural color of the NH2-MIL-53(Al) thin film showed an obvious change from purple to bluish violet and cyan. The reflection spectrum and the reflectivity also altered in different degrees. The effective refractive index (neff) of MOFs thin film can also be tuned from 1.292 to 1.424 at a wavelength of 750 nm. The success of tuning of the optical properties of MOFs thin films through post-modification will make MOFs optical thin films meet different needs of optical properties in various optical and optoelectronic devices.

n this paper, a non-enzymatic hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) sensor, based on Au nanoparticles (AuNPs) electrodepos‐ ited on an electrochemically reduced graphene oxide(ER‐ GO)-Nafion modified glass carbon electrode (GCE), was reported. The graphene oxide-(GO-)Nafion nanocompo‐ sites were first assembled on the GCE surface to produce a GO-Nafion electrode. GO was then electrochemically reduced to produce an ERGO-Nafion modified GCE (to be subsequently denoted as GCE/ERGO-Nafion). Afterwards, AuNPs were electrodeposited on the modified GCE to form a GCE/ERGO-Nafion/AuNPs electrode. The ERGO-Nafion nanocomposites and the electrodeposited AuNPs were characterized by infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results showed that the GO was reduced successfully and the AuNPs were uniformly dispersed on the GCE/ERGO-Nafion electrode with a size of about 48nm. The cyclic voltammograms and the am‐ perometric method were used to evaluate the electrocata‐ lytic properties of the GCE/ERGO-Nafion/AuNPs electrode. The results showed that the modified electrode displayed good electrocatalytic activity in relation to the reduction of H2O2 with a detection limit of 2 μM of (H2O2) based on a signal-to-noise ratio of three. The sensor also indicated great sensitivity (574.8 μA/(mM cm2)), wide linear range (0.02-23 mM), good selectivity and reproduci‐ bility, and long-term stability.

Summary: The NAD+-dependent deacetylase SIRT7 is a pivotal regulator of DNA damage response (DDR) and a promising drug target for developing cancer therapeutics. However, limited progress has been made in SIRT7 modulator discovery. Here, we applied peptide-based deacetylase platforms for SIRT7 enzymatic evaluation and successfully identified a potent SIRT7 inhibitor YZL-51N. We initially isolated bioactive YZL-51N from cockroach (Periplaneta americana) extracts and then developed the de novo synthesis of this compound. Further investigation revealed that YZL-51N impaired SIRT7 enzymatic activities through occupation of the NAD+ binding pocket. YZL-51N attenuated DNA damage repair induced by ionizing radiation (IR) in colorectal cancer cells and exhibited a synergistic anticancer effect when used in combination with etoposide. Overall, our study not only identified YZL-51N as a selective SIRT7 inhibitor from insect resources, but also confirmed its potential use in combined chemo-radiotherapy by interfering in the DNA damage repair process.

Abstract The investigation of chirality at the nanoscale is important to bridge the gap between molecular and macroscopic chirality. Atomically precise metal nanoclusters provide an ideal platform for this research, while their enantiopure preparation poses a challenge. Here, we describe an efficient approach to enantiopure metal nanoclusters via asymmetric transformation, that is, achiral Au23(SC6H11)16 nanoclusters are converted into chiral and enantiopure Au24(L)2(SC6H11)16 nanoclusters by a chiral inducer phosphoramidite (L). Two enantiomers of Au24(L)2(SC6H11)16 are obtained and the crystal structures reveal their hierarchical chirality, which originates from the two introduced chiral L molecules, the transformation-triggered asymmetric rearrangement of the staple motifs on the surface of the gold core, and the helical arrangement of nanocluster molecules. The construction of this type of enantiomerically pure nanoclusters is achieved based on the easy-to-synthesize and modular L. Lastly, the chirality-related chiroptical performance was investigated, revealing a negative nonlinear CD-ee dependence.

Collaborative filtering is a widely used technique in current recommendation systems.It leverages the similarity between different users or items to retrieve interactive information between users and items and recommends new items for target users.In recent years,graph learning has gradually become an emerging recommendation paradigm due to its excellent perfor-mance and scalability in graph representation learning.This paper systematically reviews the most recent research on recommendation field from the perspective of graph learning.First,we provide a taxonomy that groups the current recommendation scenarios into two categories according to the data type used,including recommendation systems based on interactive information that leverage user-item interaction data as the main data source and auxiliary information-enhanced recommendation systems that incorporate social information associated with users and items as well as the knowledge graph information.Then,we review the main approaches,fundamental algorithms and critical difficulties of current recommendation models from the perspectives of random walk,graph representation learning and graph neural networks.Finally,we summarize the main challenges of graph learning methods in the field of recommendation system and outline the possible future research directions.

ObjectiveTo explore the clinical characteristics of testicular torsion in children with non-scrotal initial symptoms who were misdiagnosed.MethodsA retrospective analysis of 73 cases children with testicular torsion and non-scrotal symptoms who were admitted to our department from October 2013 to December 2021 was performed. Patients were divided into misdiagnosis (27 cases) and clear diagnosis at first visit (46 cases) groups. Clinical data, including age at surgery, clinical presentation, physical examination, number of visits (≥2 times), affected side, time from initial symptoms to surgery, and surgical outcomes, were collected. The TWIST (Testicular Workup for Ischemia and Suspected Torsion) score was calculated and analyzed.ResultsStatistically significant differences between the misdiagnosis and clear diagnosis groups were seen in the time from initial symptoms to surgery, the number of visits, the degree of testicular torsion, and the rate of orchiectomy (P 0.05) in age, affected side, TWIST score, guardian, direction of testicular torsion, intra-vaginal or extra-vaginal torsion, and Arda classification. Postoperative follow-up was 6–40 months. Of the 36 patients who required an orchiopexy, 1 had testicular atrophy at six months and 2 were lost to follow-up. The contralateral testis of the 37 children who underwent orchiectomies developed normally without torsion.ConclusionsThe clinical manifestations of testicular torsion in children are diverse and can easily lead to misdiagnosis. Guardians should be aware of this pathology and seek timely medical attention. When the initial diagnosis and treatment of testicular torsion is difficult, the TWIST score during the physical examination may be useful, especially for patients with intermediate-to-high risk scores. Color Doppler ultrasound can assist in making the diagnosis, but when testicular torsion is highly suspected, routine ultrasound is not necessary as it may lead to delayed surgical treatment.

With the increasing demand for engineering construction in the seasonal frozen area and the background of the Belt and Road Initiative, the frozen soil constitutive model should be studied in depth. At present, the constitutive prediction model of frozen silty clay has many problems, such as complex formula, single model application and poor prediction ability. Random forest optimal model hyperparameter input was very difficult. Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) was used to optimize the parameters of the number of neurons, dropout and batch_size in the Long-term and Short-Term Memory network (LSTM) structure. The optimization results were 61, 0.09 and 95 respectively. The results showed that the strength tended to be stable after 6,9,6,9 and 9 freeze-thaw cycles under initial moisture content = 25, 22.5, 20, 17.5, and 15%, respectively. After 18 freeze-thaw cycles, the strength decreased by 2.66%, 11.85%, 18.83%, 16.79, and 29.02%, respectively. The predicted values of frozen soil binary medium model (BM), random forest model (RF) and PSO-LSTM model were compared with the measured values under different working conditions, and good accuracy was obtained. The R2 of the PSO-LSTM model test set was trained to more than 98%, and RMSE, MAE and MAPE were also trained to the lowest under the same working conditions. The influencing factors of deviator stress of frozen silty clay were given in order from strong to weak: initial moisture content>strain>confining pressure>number of freeze-thaw cycles. The LSTM optimal combination input parameters were searched by PSO, and the parameter adjustment speed of the model for the data learning process of frozen silty clay was greatly increased, which was conducive to the promotion of other soil constitutive prediction models. A new constitutive prediction model of frozen silty clay was developed using PSO-LSTM algorithm. 15 working conditions had been verified, and the optimal model had high accuracy in the constitutive prediction of frozen silty clay, which provided a good reference for the application of frozen soil engineering in cold regions.

Objective: This study aimed to explore the relationship between cohesin subunit REC8 reduction and meiosis chromosome segregation errors in the ovary. Methods: Rec8+/− mice were generated using CRIPSR/Cas9 gene editing. The association between age and REC8 expression levels in the ovary was determined by Western blotting. Chromosome segregation errors were investigated by immunofluorescence imaging of superovulated oocytes. Wild-type and Rec8+/− female mice at 5, 8, 20, 36, and 40 weeks were used to evaluate ovarian reserve by ovarian clearing and immunolabeling. Results: Ovary REC8 expression levels gradually decreased with age, while chromosome segregation errors increased with age. Segregation errors were more common in Rec8+/− mice, suggesting an association with REC8 expression. The ovarian reserve capacity decreased significantly with age. The ovarian reserve in Rec8+/− mice was inferior to that of age-matched wild-type mice, indicating important roles of age and REC8 levels in the ovarian reserve. Conclusions: REC8 reduction has an age-cumulative effect on meiotic chromosome segregation errors in mouse ovaries. Rec8 haploinsufficiency poses a major challenge in generating normal and reproductive oocytes in aging mice.

Background Plasmid construction of small fragments of interest (such as insertion of small fragment marker genes, expression of shRNA, siRNA, etc) is the basis of many biomolecular experiments. Here, we describe a method to clone short DNA into vectors by polymerase chain reaction (PCR), named one‐step PCR cloning. Our method uses PCR to amplify the entire circular plasmid. The PCR was performed by the primers containing the gene of short DNA with overlapping sequences between 10–15 bp. The PCR products were then transformed into E. coli and cyclized by homologous recombination in vivo. Methods The pEGFP‐N1‐HA plasmid was constructed by one‐step PCR and transformation. Cells were transfected with pEGFP‐N1‐HA and pEGFP‐N1 plasmid using TurboFect transfection reagent. Protein expression was detected by western blotting and the HA‐GFP fusion protein was detected by confocal microscopy. Results The pEGFP‐N1‐HA plasmid was successfully constructed and HA expression in cells. Conclusions Free from the limitations of restriction enzyme sites and omitting the ligation process, our method offers a flexible and economical option of plasmid construction. Fast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been attracting more and more research interests in recent years. With the emergence of big data and development of advanced deep learning algorithms, neural network has become a common and effective tool for image reconstruction in fast MRI. One main challenge to the deep learning-based methods for fast MRI reconstruction is the trade-off between the network performance and the network capacity. Few previous studies have used the deep learning-based methods in parallel imaging. In this work, a deep recursive cascaded convolutional network (DRCCN) architecture was designed for parallel MRI, with reduced number of network parameters while maintaining a satisfactory performance. The experimental results demonstrated that, compared to the classical methods, image reconstruction with the well-trained DRCCN networks were more accurate and less time consuming.

A matured oocyte has experienced three critical division stages: (1) proliferation in early fetal stage, (2) meiotic arrest at diplotene of prophase I, and (3) meiotic resumption and extrusion of the first polar body. The abnormalities of these stages are associated closely with female reproduction problems including primary ovarian insufficiency (POI), the pathogenic mechanisms of which consist of insufficient initial follicle number, accelerated follicle loss, and arrest of follicle development. Recently, many meiotic associated genetic factors were identified to be mutated in POI patients and mouse models, revealing the association between meiosis and ovarian reserve. In this review, we provide an overview of the genetic factors involved in meiotic prophase I and their pathogenic mechanisms in POI.

A non-Newtonian thermal elastohydrodynamic lubrication (TEHL) model for the elliptic contact is established, into which the inertia forces of the lubricant is incorporated. In doing so, the film pressure and film temperature are solved using the associated equations. Meanwhile, the elastic deformation is calculated with the discrete convolution and fast Fourier transform (DC-FFT) method. A film thickness experiment is conducted to validate the TEHL model considering the inertia forces. Further, effects of the inertia forces on the TEHL performances are studied at different operation conditions. The results show that when the inertia forces are considered, the central and minimum film thicknesses increase and film temperature near the inlet increases obviously. Moreover, the inertial solution of the central film thickness is closer to the experimental result compared with its inertialess value.

Multidrug resistance (MDR) due to overexpression of MDR1 is a major obstacle that hinders the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In this study, we explored the function and underlying molecular mechanism of SIRT6 in MDR of HCC. Chemotherapeutic agents (doxorubicin, cisplatin, and sorafenib) treatment increased SIRT6 mRNA and protein level in two HCC cell lines in a dose-dependent manner. SIRT6 depletion resulted in decreased cell viability and increased apoptosis in HCC cells treated with chemotherapeutic agents. Mechanistically, SIRT6 depletion reduced MDR1 transcription by targeting its promoter in HCC cells treated with chemotherapeutic agents. Consistently, the protein level of MDR1 was also reduced in SIRT6-depleted HCC cells. Further studies indicated that SIRT6 depletion may suppress CCAAT/enhancer binding protein β (C/EBPβ), to act as a transcriptional activator of MDR1 in HCC cells treated with chemotherapeutic agents. Importantly, forced expression of MDR1 could attenuate the apoptosis induced by chemotherapeutic agents in SIRT6-depleted cells. Taken together, these results indicated SIRT6 depletion enhanced chemosensitivity of human hepatoma cells by downregulating MDR1 expression through suppressing C/EBPβ. SIRT6 may serve as a novel target to enhance chemosensitivity in HCC cells.

A blind linear receiver for multi-antenna impulse radio ultra-wideband（UWB）communication systems was proposed.Without the need of channel information,specific properties of the received data imposed by the precoded space-time block codes（STBC）could be exploited to estimate the coefficients of the receiver,which subsequently recovered the transmitted symbols.Simulations show that,with the increasing of the data block for estimation,the performance of the blind receiver approaches that of the coherent one.

Abstract Background Hemodialysis (HD) and peritoneal dialysis (PD) are important renal replacement treatment in end stage renal disease (ESRD), but the comparison of quality of life (QOL) and causes of hospitalisation between the two modalities in China is lacking. In the present study, we compared the two modalities in a multi-center study. Subjects and methods Six hundred and fifty four HD and 408 PD patients were investigated from 10 hospitals in China from Sept, 2004 to Jan, 2005. Among the HD patients, there were 360 males and 294 females with a mean age of 57.22 ± 12.49 years (18–88 y). Among PD patients, there were 165 males and 243 females, with a mean age of 61.59 ± 12.65 years (22–89 y). Health related 36 items short form questionnaires (SF-36) were used to assess the quality of life. Hospitalisation data were collected and analyzed. Results SF-36 domains of Body Pain (BP), General Health (GH), Role-Emotional (RE), Social Functioning (SF), Vitality (VT) and Mental Health (MH) were all significantly higher in the PD patients as compared to the HD patients although there was no significant difference in Physical Functioning (PF) and Role-Physical (RP) between the two groups. The two most common causes of hospitalisation in HD patients were cardiovascular disease (39.8%) and pulmonary infection (21.3%), while they were infectious peritonitis (47.6%) and cardiovascular disease (31.9%) in PD patients. The ever hospitalised patients had lower SF-36 scores in the domains of PF, BP, GH, RE, SF, VT and MH as compared to those of non-hospitalised patients. Conclusion Our study indicated that with the current practice in China, PD patients may enjoy better quality of life than their HD counterparts. Our results also showed that the most common cause of hospitalisation was cardiovascular disease in HD patients and peritonitis in PD patients.
