Abstract Using a transfer printing technique, we imprint a layer of a designated near-infrared fluorescent dye BTP-eC9 onto a thin layer of Pt(II) complex, both of which are capable of self-assembly. Before integration, the Pt(II) complex layer gives intense deep-red phosphorescence maximized at ~740 nm, while the BTP-eC9 layer shows fluorescence at > 900 nm. Organic light emitting diodes fabricated under the imprinted bilayer architecture harvest most of Pt(II) complex phosphorescence, which undergoes triplet-to-singlet energy transfer to the BTP-eC9 dye, resulting in high-intensity hyperfluorescence at > 900 nm. As a result, devices achieve 925 nm emission with external quantum efficiencies of 2.24% (1.94 ± 0.18%) and maximum radiance of 39.97 W sr−1 m−2. Comprehensive morphology, spectroscopy and device analyses support the mechanism of interfacial energy transfer, which also is proved successful for BTPV-eC9 dye (1022 nm), making bright and far-reaching the prospective of hyperfluorescent OLEDs in the near-infrared region.

Abstract This study illustrated the effectiveness of the knowledge, attitude, practice (KAP) intervention model for community hypertension in the elderly by the community physician‐led, describing the study design and baseline data. The aim of the study was to compare the changes in the elderly hypertensive population before and after the KAP intervention model by managing the elderly hypertensive patients for a period of 1 year. Basic information and risk factors affecting blood pressure control based on baseline data of recruited elderly hypertensive patients. The management approach consists of two parts: (1) the unified management of the community physician to whom the patient belongs; and (2) the management of the contracted patient by the community physician. The aim was to demonstrate the anti‐hypertensive effectiveness (control rate, blood pressure reduction, and pulse pressure), the distribution of blood pressure types, and the change of the KAP in elderly hypertensive patients before and after the intervention. The KAP intervention model was administered to 2660 elderly hypertensive patients in a 1‐year period. The blood pressure control rate improved by 54.03%. Mean values of overall systolic and diastolic blood pressure decreased by 16.00 and 5.31 mmHg, respectively. The proportion of isolated systolic hypertension (ISH) and systolic‐diastolic hypertension (SDH) decreased by 29.14% and 24.81%, respectively. The KAP compliance improved significantly. These results suggest that the community physician‐led KAP intervention model is effective in the management of hypertension in the elderly.

Abstract Lately, carbazole‐based self‐assembled monolayers (SAMs) are widely employed as effective hole‐selective layers (HSLs) in inverted perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Nevertheless, these SAMs tend to aggregate in solvents due to their amphiphilic nature, hindering the formation of a monolayer on the ITO substrate and impeding effective passivation of deep defects in the perovskites. In this study, a series of new SAMs including DPA‐B‐PY, CBZ‐B‐PY, POZ‐B‐PY, POZ‐PY, POZ‐T‐PY, and POZ‐BT‐PY are synthesized, which are employed as interfacial repairers and coated atop CNph SAM to form a robust CNph SAM@pseudo‐planar monolayer as HSL in efficient inverted PSCs. The CNph SAM@pseudo‐planar monolayer strategy enables a well‐aligned interface with perovskites, synergistically promoting perovskite crystal growth, improving charge extraction/transport, and minimizing nonradiative interfacial recombination loss. As a result, the POZ‐BT‐PY‐modified PSC realizes an impressively enhanced solar efficiency of up to 24.45% together with a fill factor of 82.63%. Furthermore, a wide bandgap PSC achieving over 19% efficiency. Upon treatment with the CNph SAM@pseudo‐planar monolayer, also demonstrates a non‐fullerene organic photovoltaics (OPVs) based on the PM6:BTP‐eC9 blend, which achieves an efficiency of 17.07%. Importantly, these modified PSCs and OPVs all show remarkably improved stability under various testing conditions compared to their control counterparts.

Abstract We simulate the Madden‐Julian oscillation (MJO) over an aquaplanet with uniform surface temperature using the multiscale modeling framework (MMF) configuration of the Energy Exascale Earth System Model (E3SM‐MMF). The model produces MJO‐like features that have a similar spatial structure and propagation behavior to the observed MJO. To explore the processes involved in the propagation and maintenance of these MJO‐like features, we perform a vertically resolved moist static energy (MSE) analysis for the MJO (Yao et al., 2022, https://doi.org/10.1175/jas‐d‐20‐0254.1). Unlike the column‐integrated MSE analysis, our method emphasizes the local production of MSE variance and quantifies how individual physical processes amplify and propagate the MJO's characteristic vertical structure. We find that radiation, convection, and boundary layer (BL) processes all contribute to maintaining the MJO, balanced by the large‐scale MSE transport. Furthermore, large‐scale dynamics, convection, and BL processes all contribute to the propagation of the MJO, while radiation slows the propagation. Additionally, we perform mechanism‐denial experiments to examine the role of radiation and associated feedbacks in simulating the MJO. We find that the MJO can still self‐emerge and maintain its characteristic structures without radiative feedbacks. This study highlights the role of convective MSE transport in the MJO dynamics, which was overlooked in the column‐integrated MSE analysis.

Abstract Chemo-immunotherapy combinations have been regarded as one of the most practical ways to improve immunotherapy response in cancer patients. In this study, we integrate the transcriptomics data from anti-PD-1-treated tumors and compound-treated cancer cell lines to systematically screen for chemo-immunotherapy synergisms in silico. Through analyzing anti-PD-1 induced expression changes in patient tumors, we develop a shift ability score to measure if a chemotherapy or a small molecule inhibitor treatment can shift anti-PD-1 resistance in tumor cells. By applying shift ability analysis to 41,321 compounds and 16,853 shRNA treated cancer cell lines transcriptomic data, we characterize the landscape of chemo-immunotherapy synergism and experimentally validated a mitochondrial RNA-dependent mechanism for drug-induced immune activation in tumor. Our study represents an effort to mechanistically characterize chemo-immunotherapy synergism and will facilitate future pre-clinical and clinical studies.

Sulfation is a crucial and prevalent conjugation reaction involved in cellular processes and mammalian physiology. 3′-Phosphoadenosine 5′-phosphosulfate (PAPS) synthase 2 (PAPSS2) is the primary enzyme to generate the universal sulfonate donor PAPS. The involvement of PAPSS2-mediated sulfation in adenomatous polyposis coli (APC) mutation-promoted colonic carcinogenesis has not been reported. Here, we showed that the expression of PAPSS2 was decreased in human colon tumors along with cancer stages, and the lower expression of PAPSS2 was correlated with poor prognosis in advanced colon cancer. Gut epithelial-specific heterozygous Apc deficient and Papss2-knockout (ApcΔgut-HetPapss2Δgut) mice were created, and the phenotypes were compared to the spontaneous intestinal tumorigenesis of ApcΔgut-Het mice. ApcΔgut-HetPapss2Δgut mice were more sensitive to gut tumorigenesis, which was mechanistically accounted for by the activation of Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway due to the suppression of chondroitin sulfation and inhibition of the farnesoid X receptor (FXR)-transducin-like enhancer of split 3 (TLE3) gene regulatory axis. Chondroitin sulfate supplementation in ApcΔgut-HetPapss2Δgut mice alleviated intestinal tumorigenesis. In summary, we have uncovered the protective role of PAPSS2-mediated chondroitin sulfation and bile acids–FXR–TLE3 activation in the prevention of gut carcinogenesis via the antagonization of Wnt/β-catenin signaling. Chondroitin sulfate may be explored as a therapeutic agent for Papss2 deficiency-associated colonic carcinogenesis.

Tissue-clearing and labeling techniques have revolutionized brain-wide imaging and analysis, yet their application to clinical formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) blocks remains challenging. We introduce HIF-Clear, a novel method for efficiently clearing and labeling centimeter-thick FFPE specimens using elevated temperature and concentrated detergents. HIF-Clear with multi-round immunolabeling reveals neuron circuitry regulating multiple neurotransmitter systems in a whole FFPE mouse brain and is able to be used as the evaluation of disease treatment efficiency. HIF-Clear also supports expansion microscopy and can be performed on a non-sectioned 15-year-old FFPE specimen, as well as a 3-month formalin-fixed mouse brain. Thus, HIF-Clear represents a feasible approach for researching archived FFPE specimens for future neuroscientific and 3D neuropathological analyses.

Abstract Background PD-1/PD-L1 blockade plays a crucial role in cancer immunotherapy. Exploration of new technologies to further enhance the efficacy of PD-1/PD-L1 blockade is therefore of potential medical importance. Nanotherapeutics can accumulate in tumor tissues due to enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effects. In this study, a novel nanotherapeutic for cancer immunotherapy was implemented with albumin nanoparticles functionalized by both PD-1 and PD-L1 aptamers. Results Albumin nanoparticles (NP) were functionalized with either PD-1 aptamers (PD1-NP), PD-L1 aptamers (PDL1-NP), or both types of aptamers (PD1-NP-PDL1). Average sizes of PD1-NP, PDL1-NP, and PD1-NP-PDL1 were 141.8 nm, 141.8 nm, and 164.2 nm, respectively. PD1-NP had good affinity for activated T cells that expresses PD-1. Similarly, PDL1-NP could bind with MDA-MB-231 or CT26 tumor cells that express PD-L1. Moreover, the bispecific PD1-NP-PDL1 could bind with both the activated T cells and the PD-L1-expressing tumor cells, and tether the two type of cells together. Functionally, aptamer-modified nanoparticles exhibited stronger immune-stimulating effects vs. free aptamers. Specifically, PD1-NP or PDL1-NP induced stronger lymphocyte-mediated cytotoxicity against PD-L1-expressing tumor cells in vitro vs. free PD-1 or PD-L1 aptamers. Animal studies also showed that PD1-NP or PDL1-NP significantly improved antitumor efficacy against CT26 colon cancer in vivo vs. free PD-1 or PD-L1 aptamers. Importantly, the bispecific PD1-NP-PDL1 further boosted the in vivo antitumor efficacy compared with PD1-NP or PDL1-NP, without raising systemic toxicity. Conclusion The results suggest that the bispecific PD1-NP-PDL1 is a promising nanotherapeutic to improve the efficacy of PD-1/PD-L1 blockade, and may have application potential in colon cancer treatment.

Abstract The multifaceted chemo-immune resistance is the principal barrier to achieving cure in cancer patients. Identifying a target that is critically involved in chemo-immune-resistance represents an attractive strategy to improve cancer treatment. iRhom1 plays a role in cancer cell proliferation and its expression is negatively correlated with immune cell infiltration. Here we show that iRhom1 decreases chemotherapy sensitivity by regulating the MAPK14-HSP27 axis. In addition, iRhom1 inhibits the cytotoxic T-cell response by reducing the stability of ERAP1 protein and the ERAP1-mediated antigen processing and presentation. To facilitate the therapeutic translation of these findings, we develop a biodegradable nanocarrier that is effective in codelivery of iRhom pre-siRNA (pre-siiRhom) and chemotherapeutic drugs. This nanocarrier is effective in tumor targeting and penetration through both enhanced permeability and retention effect and CD44-mediated transcytosis in tumor endothelial cells as well as tumor cells. Inhibition of iRhom1 further facilitates tumor targeting and uptake through inhibition of CD44 cleavage. Co-delivery of pre-siiRhom and a chemotherapy agent leads to enhanced antitumor efficacy and activated tumor immune microenvironment in multiple cancer models in female mice. Targeting iRhom1 together with chemotherapy could represent a strategy to overcome chemo-immune resistance in cancer treatment.

Abstract Designing an organic polymer photocatalyst for efficient hydrogen evolution with visible and near-infrared (NIR) light activity is still a major challenge. Unlike the common behavior of gradually increasing the charge recombination while shrinking the bandgap, we present here a series of polymer nanoparticles (Pdots) based on ITIC and BTIC units with different π-linkers between the acceptor-donor-acceptor (A-D-A) repeated moieties of the polymer. These polymers act as an efficient single polymer photocatalyst for H2 evolution under both visible and NIR light, without combining or hybridizing with other materials. Importantly, the difluorothiophene (ThF) π-linker facilitates the charge transfer between acceptors of different repeated moieties (A-D-A-(π-Linker)-A-D-A), leading to the enhancement of charge separation between D and A. As a result, the PITIC-ThF Pdots exhibit superior hydrogen evolution rates of 279 µmol/h and 20.5 µmol/h with visible (>420 nm) and NIR (>780 nm) light irradiation, respectively. Furthermore, PITIC-ThF Pdots exhibit a promising apparent quantum yield (AQY) at 700 nm (4.76%).

Abstract Background Avian bornavirus (ABV) is a neurotropic virus, it has been established as the primary causative agent of proventricular dilatation disease (PDD). However, substantial international trade and transnational trafficking of wild birds occur, potentially enabling these birds to harbor and transmit pathogens to domestic poultry, adversely affecting their well-being. Real-time RT-PCR was employed to detect the presence of PaBV-4 in parrots imported to China in 2022. Results In 2022, a total of 47 cloacal swabs from 9 distinct species of parrots were collected at the Wildlife Rescue Monitoring Center in Guangdong, China. The purpose of this collection was to detect the presence of PaBV-4. Using real-time PCR techniques, it was determined that the positive rate of PaBV-4 was 2.12% (1 out of 47) in parrots. The PaBV-4 virus was detected in a Amazona aestiva that had been adopted for one month. Conversely, all other species tested negative for the virus. Subsequently, the whole genome of the PaBV-4 GD2207 strains was sequenced, and the homology and genetic evolution between these strains and previously published PaBV-4 strains on GenBank were analyzed using DNAStar and MEGA7.0 software. The findings revealed that the full-length genome of PaBV-4 consisted of 8915 nucleotides and encoded six proteins. Additionally, it exhibited the highest nucleotide similarity (99.9%) to the GZ2019 strain, which causes death and severe clinical symptoms in Aratinga solstitialis. Furthermore, when compared to other strains of PaBV-4, the GD2207 strain demonstrated the highest amino acid homology with GZ2019. The phylogenetic analysis demonstrated that the GD2207 strain clustered with various strains found in Japanese, American, and German parrots, indicating a close genetic relationship with PaBV-4, but it revealed a distant relationship with PaBV-5 Cockg5 from America. Notably, the GD2207 was closely associated with the GZ2019 strain from Aratinga solstitialis in China. Conclusion This study presents the preliminary identification of PaBV-4 in Amazona aestiva parrots, emphasizing its importance as the predominant viral genotype linked to parrot infections resulting from trade into China. Through genetic evolution analysis, it was determined that the GD2207 strain of PaBV-4 exhibits the closest genetic relationship with GZ 2019 (Aratinga solstitialis, China), M14 (Ara macao, USA), AG5 (Psittacus erithacus, USA) and 6758 (Ara ararauna, Germany) suggesting a shared ancestry.

To explore and utilize the abundant soil microorganisms and their beneficial functions, high-throughput sequencing technology was used to analyze soil microbial compositions in the rhizosphere of red and green amaranth varieties. The results showed that significant differences in soil microbial composition could be found in the rhizosphere of amaranth plants with different color phenotypes. Firstly, soil bacterial compositions in the rhizosphere were significantly different between red and green amaranths. Among them, Streptomyces, Pseudonocardia, Pseudolabrys, Acidibacter, norank_ f_ Micropepsaceae, Bradyrhizobium, and Nocardioides were the unique dominant soil bacterial genera in the rhizosphere of red amaranth. In contrast, Conexibacter, norank_f_norank_o_norank_c_TK10, and norank_f_ norank_o_ norank_ c_AD3 were the special dominant soil bacterial genera in the rhizosphere of green amaranth. Additionally, even though the soil fungal compositions in the rhizosphere were not significantly different between red and green amaranths, the abundance of the dominant soil fungal genera in the rhizosphere showed significant differences between red and green amaranths. For example, unclassified_k__Fungi, Fusarium, Cladophialophora, unclassified_c__Sordariomycetes and unclassified_p__Chytridiomycota significantly enriched as the dominant soil fungal genera in the rhizosphere of the red amaranth. In contrast, Aspergillues only significantly enriched as the dominant soil fungal genus in the rhizosphere of green amaranth. All of the above results indicated that amaranth with various color phenotypes exactly recruited different microorganisms in rhizosphere, and the enrichments of soil microorganisms in the rhizosphere could be speculated in contributing to amaranth color formations.

Compared to 2D imaging data, the 4D light field (LF) data retains richer scene’s structure information, which can significantly improve the computer’s perception capability, including depth estimation, semantic segmentation, and LF rendering. However, there is a contradiction between spatial and angular resolution during the LF image acquisition period. To overcome the above problem, researchers have gradually focused on the light field super-resolution (LFSR). In the traditional solutions, researchers achieved the LFSR based on various optimization frameworks, such as Bayesian and Gaussian models. Deep learning-based methods are more popular than conventional methods because they have better performance and more robust generalization capabilities. In this paper, the present approach can mainly divided into conventional methods and deep learning-based methods. We discuss these two branches in light field spatial super-resolution (LFSSR), light field angular super-resolution (LFASR), and light field spatial and angular super-resolution (LFSASR), respectively. Subsequently, this paper also introduces the primary public datasets and analyzes the performance of the prevalent approaches on these datasets. Finally, we discuss the potential innovations of the LFSR to propose the progress of our research field.

Light Field (LF) depth estimation is an important research direction in the area of computer vision and computational photography, which aims to infer the depth information of different objects in three-dimensional scenes by capturing LF data. Given this new era of significance, this article introduces a survey of the key concepts, methods, novel applications, and future trends in this area. We summarize the LF depth estimation methods, which are usually based on the interaction of radiance from rays in all directions of the LF data, such as epipolar-plane, multi-view geometry, focal stack, and deep learning. We analyze the many challenges facing each of these approaches, including complex algorithms, large amounts of computation, and speed requirements. In addition, this survey summarizes most of the currently available methods, conducts some comparative experiments, discusses the results, and investigates the novel directions in LF depth estimation.

Abstract Recently, mesoporous nanomaterials with widespread applications have attracted great interest in the field of drug delivery due to their unique structure and good physiochemical properties. As a biomimetic nanomaterial, mesoporous polydopamine (MPDA) possesses both a superior nature and good compatibility, endowing it with good clinical transformation prospects compared with other inorganic mesoporous nanocarriers. However, the subacute toxicity and underlying mechanisms of biomimetic mesoporous polydopamine nanoparticles remain uncertain. Herein, we prepared MPDAs by a soft template method and evaluated their primary physiochemical properties and metabolite toxicity, as well as potential mechanisms. The results demonstrated that MPDA injection at low (3.61 mg/kg) and medium doses (10.87 mg/kg) did not significantly change the body weight, organ index or routine blood parameters. In contrast, high-dose MPDA injection (78.57 mg/kg) is associated with disturbances in the gut microbiota, activation of inflammatory pathways through the abnormal metabolism of bile acids and unsaturated fatty acids, and potential oxidative stress injury. In sum, the MPDA dose applied should be controlled during the treatment. This study first provides a systematic evaluation of metabolite toxicity and related mechanisms for MPDA-based nanoparticles, filling the gap between their research and clinical transformation as a drug delivery nanoplatform.

Maintaining open flowers is critical for successful pollination and depends on long-term water and carbon balance. Yet the relationship between how flower hydraulic traits are coordinated in different habitats is poorly understood. Here, we hypothesize that the coordination and trade-offs between floral hydraulics and economics traits are independent of environmental conditions. To test this hypothesis, we investigated a total of 27 flower economics and hydraulic traits in six aquatic and six terrestrial herbaceous species grown in a tropical botanical garden. We found that although there were a few significant differences, most flower hydraulics and economics traits did not differ significantly between aquatic and terrestrial herbaceous plants. Both flower mass per area and floral longevity were significantly positively correlated with the time required for drying full-hydrated flowers to 70% relative water content. Flower dry matter content was strongly and positively related to drought tolerance of the flowers as indicated by flower water potential at the turgor loss point. In addition, there was a trade-off between hydraulic efficiency and the construction cost of a flower across species. Our results show that flowers of aquatic and terrestrial plants follow the same economics spectrum pattern. These results suggest a convergent flower economics design across terrestrial and aquatic plants, providing new insights into the mechanisms by which floral organs adapt to aquatic and terrestrial habitats.

Abstract The rotation of a C = C bond in an alkene can be efficiently accelerated by creating the high-strain ground state and stabilizing the transition state of the process. Herein, the synthesis, structures, and properties of several highly twisted alkenes are comprehensively explored. A facile and practical synthetic approach to target molecules is developed. The twist angles and lengths of the central C = C bonds in these molecules are 36–58° and 1.40–1.43 Å, respectively, and confirmed by X-ray crystallography and DFT calculations. A quasi-planar molecular half with the π-extended substituents delivers a shallow rotational barrier (down to 2.35 kcal/mol), indicating that the rotation of the C = C bond is as facile as that of the aryl-aryl bond in 2-flourobiphenyl. Other versatile and unique properties of the studied compounds include a broad photoabsorption range (from 250 up to 1100 nm), a reduced HOMO-LUMO gap (1.26–1.68 eV), and a small singlet-triplet energy gap (3.65–5.68 kcal/mol).

To explore how endophytic microbial compositions in amaranth roots are influenced by various fertilization methods and to determine whether these microbes are associated with amaranthin formation, we conducted an analysis of the endophytic microbial community structure. The roots of amaranth plants subjected to different fertilization treatments—conventional fertilization without potassium (NP), conventional fertilization without phosphorus (NK), conventional fertilization without nitrogen (PK), and balanced fertilization (NPK)—were examined. The results showed that the proportions of Streptomyces, Actinospica, and Burkholderia-Caballeronia-Paraburkholderia in the amaranth roots under the balanced fertilization (NPK) treatment were all greater than those in the amaranth roots under the nitrogen (PK), phosphorus (NK), and potassium (NP) deficiency fertilization treatments. In contrast, the proportions of Phenylobacterium, Acrocalymma, Neocosmospora, Fusarium, Acidovorax, Gibellulopsis, Cladosporium, Dactylonectria, and Gibberella in the amaranth roots under the nutrient deficiency fertilization (NP, NK, and PK) treatments were higher than those in the amaranth roots under the balanced fertilization treatment. Additionally, a significantly positive correlation was found between Streptomyces and the amaranthin content. Furthermore, Acrocalymma, Neocosmospora, and Fusarium exhibited significantly negative correlations with the amaranthin content. The above results suggested that endophytes could easily colonize in amaranth roots as beneficial microorganisms under balanced fertilization conditions. In other words, the balanced fertilization (N, P and K fertilizers are 188.0, 53.0 and 50.0 kg·hm−2, respectively) could recruit more beneficial endogenous microorganisms in amaranth roots for improving their growth and quality.

Abstract Light field (LF) cameras record multiple perspectives by a sparse sampling of real scenes, and these perspectives provide complementary information. This information is beneficial to LF super-resolution (LFSR). Compared with traditional single-image super-resolution, LF can exploit parallax structure and perspective correlation among different LF views. Furthermore, the performance of existing methods are limited as they fail to deeply explore the complementary information across LF views. In this paper, we propose a novel network, called the light field complementary-view feature attention network (LF-CFANet), to improve LFSR by dynamically learning the complementary information in LF views. Specifically, we design a residual complementary-view spatial and channel attention module (RCSCAM) to effectively interact with complementary information between complementary views. Moreover, RCSCAM captures the relationships between different channels, and it is able to generate informative features for reconstructing LF images while ignoring redundant information. Then, a maximum-difference information supplementary branch (MDISB) is used to supplement information from the maximum-difference angular positions based on the geometric structure of LF images. This branch also can guide the process of reconstruction. Experimental results on both synthetic and real-world datasets demonstrate the superiority of our method. The proposed LF-CFANet has a more advanced reconstruction performance that displays faithful details with higher SR accuracy than state-of-the-art methods.

Abstract The obstacle‐avoidance problem of automated vehicles is a hot topic in the community of autonomous driving. The majority of the existing studies focused on the obstacle‐avoidance of a single automated vehicle. The connected vehicles technology provides the possibility of controlling a vehicle swarm to avoid the obstacle cooperatively. Through cooperation, the vehicle swarm not only can avoid an obstacle safely but also can minimize traffic delays. Therefore, this paper proposes a cooperative obstacle‐avoidance model for the automated vehicle swarm driving on the freeway based on the A2C reinforcement learning. The proposed model considers the efficiencies of both the individual and swarm in the learning, and a cooperative lane‐changing execution model is proposed to ensure that the optimal decision made by the A2C algorithm can be performed by the vehicles. Furthermore, simulations are conducted to verify the proposed model. The results indicate that the proposed model can significantly improve the overall traffic efficiency compared with the existing models. In a congested state, when the proposed model is applied to control vehicles, an optimal control range can be found (i.e. 700 m here), and within this optimal range, the traffic efficiency increases with the increment of the number of the vehicles controlled by the proposed model.

Abstract Background C2H2 zinc finger proteins (C2H2-ZFPs), one of the largest transcription factors, play a variety of roles in plant development and growth as well as stress response. While, the evolutionary history and expression profile of the C2H2-ZFP genes in Larix kaempferi (LkZFPs) have not been reported so far. Results In this study, the whole genome of the LkZFPs was identified and characterized, including physicochemical properties, phylogenetic relationships, conservative motifs, the promoter cis-elements and Gene Ontology (GO) annotation. We identified 47 LkZFPs and divided them into four subfamilies based on phylogenetic analysis and conserved motifs. Subcellular localization prediction showed that most of the LkZFPs were located in the nucleus. Promoter cis-element analysis suggested that the LkZFPs may be involved in the regulation of stress responses. Moreover, Real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) results showed that Q-type LkZFP genes were involved in the response to abiotic stress, such as salt, drought and hormone stresses. Subcellular localization results showed that LkZFP7 and LkZFP37 were located in the nucleus, LkZFP32 was located in both cytoplasm and nucleus. Conclusion The identification and functional analysis of LkZFPs suggested that some LkZFP genes might play important roles in coping with both biological and abiotic stresses. These results could further increase understanding of the function of the LkZFPs, and provide some research direction and theoretical support.

Understanding the climate dynamics at the inner edge of the habitable zone is crucial for predicting the habitability of rocky exoplanets. Previous studies using global climate models (GCMs) have indicated that planets receiving high stellar flux can exhibit climate bifurcations, leading to bistability between a cold (temperate) and a hot (runaway) climate. However, the mechanism causing this bistability has not been fully explained, in part due to the difficulty associated with inferring mechanisms from small numbers of expensive numerical simulations in GCMs. In this study, we employ a two-column (dayside and nightside), two-layer climate model to investigate the physical mechanisms driving this bistability. Through mechanism-denial experiments, we demonstrate that the runaway greenhouse effect, coupled with a cloud feedback on either the dayside or nightside, leads to climate bistability. We also map out the parameters that control the location of the bifurcations and size of the bistability. This work identifies which mechanisms and GCM parameters control the stellar flux at which rocky planets are likely to retain a hot, thick atmosphere if they experience a hot start. This is critical for the prioritization of targets and interpretation of observations by the James Webb Space Telescope. Furthermore, our modeling framework can be extended to planets with different condensable species and cloud types.

Abstract Root metabolites and soil microbial community structure in the rhizosphere play critical roles in crop growth. Here, we assessed the efficiency of conventional and tissue culture propagation methods in modulating the soil health and microbiota in the rhizosphere of sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) plants. The seeding canes were obtained using newly planted and two‐year ratooned canes propagated by conventional (CSN and CSR) or tissue culture (TCN and TCR) methods. Changes in soil fertility, root metabolites and soil microbial community structure in the rhizosphere of sugarcane plants obtained using these canes were assessed. The activities of soil β‐glucosidase and aminopeptidase, soil microbial biomass nitrogen, and abundances of soil beneficial microbes, both at phyla and genera levels, were significantly higher in the rhizosphere of sugarcane plants in TCN and TCR treatments than those in that of plants in CSN and CSR treatments. Furthermore, flavonoid and flavonol biosynthesis and alanine, aspartate and glutamate metabolism were significantly upregulated in the roots of TCR and TCN plants compared with those in the roots of CSN and CSR plants. These results suggest that the tissue culture propagation method is a sustainable method for sugarcane cultivation to improve soil fertility and health in sugarcane rhizosphere.

Summary: Background: The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in detecting colorectal neoplasia during colonoscopy holds the potential to enhance adenoma detection rates (ADRs) and reduce adenoma miss rates (AMRs). However, varied outcomes have been observed across studies. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the potential advantages and disadvantages of employing AI-aided systems during colonoscopy. Methods: Using Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) terms and keywords, a comprehensive electronic literature search was performed of the Embase, Medline, and the Cochrane Library databases from the inception of each database until October 04, 2023, in order to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing AI-assisted with standard colonoscopy for detecting colorectal neoplasia. Primary outcomes included AMR, ADR, and adenomas detected per colonoscopy (APC). Secondary outcomes comprised the poly missed detection rate (PMR), poly detection rate (PDR), and poly detected per colonoscopy (PPC). We utilized random-effects meta-analyses with Hartung-Knapp adjustment to consolidate results. The prediction interval (PI) and I2 statistics were utilized to quantify between-study heterogeneity. Moreover, meta-regression and subgroup analyses were performed to investigate the potential sources of heterogeneity. This systematic review and meta-analysis is registered with PROSPERO (CRD42023428658). Findings: This study encompassed 33 trials involving 27,404 patients. Those undergoing AI-aided colonoscopy experienced a significant decrease in PMR (RR, 0.475; 95% CI, 0.294–0.768; I2 = 87.49%) and AMR (RR, 0.495; 95% CI, 0.390–0.627; I2 = 48.76%). Additionally, a significant increase in PDR (RR, 1.238; 95% CI, 1.158–1.323; I2 = 81.67%) and ADR (RR, 1.242; 95% CI, 1.159–1.332; I2 = 78.87%), along with a significant increase in the rates of PPC (IRR, 1.388; 95% CI, 1.270–1.517; I2 = 91.99%) and APC (IRR, 1.390; 95% CI, 1.277–1.513; I2 = 86.24%), was observed. This resulted in 0.271 more PPCs (95% CI, 0.144–0.259; I2 = 65.61%) and 0.202 more APCs (95% CI, 0.144–0.259; I2 = 68.15%). Interpretation: AI-aided colonoscopy significantly enhanced the detection of colorectal neoplasia detection, likely by reducing the miss rate. However, future studies should focus on evaluating the cost-effectiveness and long-term benefits of AI-aided colonoscopy in reducing cancer incidence. In the present work, we have studied the effects of the implicit solvent on the structural and energetic parameters of Cu2+(MeOH)n=1-8 clusters. Initially, we explored the potential energy surfaces (PESs) obtained in the solution phase using the functional DFT M06-2X method, in conjunction with the 6–31++G** Pople basis set, and compared them with isomers of the same complexes optimized in the gaseous phase. The implicit solvent is described here by the polarized continuum model of integral equation formalism (IEF-PCM). Subsequently, we reported the temperature dependence and the binding electronic energies per methanol molecule. Our investigations reveal that the 6- and 5-coordinate isomers occupy the ground states on the PESs of the Cu2+(MeOH)n=1-8 clusters. The stability rules of the Cu2+ ion established in the gas phase are best adhered to in the implicit solvent. Regarding the temperature dependence of the solution phase conformer distribution, symmetric and compact structures, as well as those with a high coordination number (CN), dominate the population of the Cu2+(MeOH)n=1-8 clusters at all temperatures. Notably, the populations of clusters with sizes n=7-8 are exclusively dominated by hexa-coordinated structures at all temperatures, while penta- and tetra-coordinated isomers are disadvantaged. For the determination of the binding electronic energy, using a function fit, we computed these energies to be -1589kJ mol−1 in the implicit solvent and -7150kJ mol−1 in the gaseous phase. This significant difference is attributable to the interactions between the methanol molecules and the implicit solvent, which are present in the solvent phase but absent in a gaseous medium. This difference is further supported by the analysis of the Wiberg bond index of the metal–ligand interactions of the clusters in the two media.

Immunotherapies have emerged as promising strategies for cancer treatment. However, existing immunotherapies have poor activity in high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) due to the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment and the associated low tumoral CD8+ T cell (CTL) infiltration. Through multiple lines of evidence, including integrative analyses of human HGSC tumors, we have identified miR-146a as a master regulator of CTL infiltration in HGSC. Tumoral miR-146a expression is positively correlated with anti-cancer immune signatures in human HGSC tumors, and delivery of miR-146a to tumors resulted in significant reduction in tumor growth in both ID8-p53−/− and IG10 murine HGSC models. Increasing miR-146a expression in tumors improved anti-tumor immune responses by decreasing immune suppressive neutrophils and increasing CTL infiltration. Mechanistically, miR-146a targets IL-1 receptor-associated kinase 1 and tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated factor 6 adaptor molecules of the transcription factor nuclear factor κB signaling pathway in ID8-p53−/− cells and decreases production of the downstream neutrophil chemoattractant, C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 1. In addition to HGSC, tumoral miR-146a expression also correlates strongly with CTL infiltration in other cancer types including thyroid, prostate, breast, and adrenocortical cancers. Altogether, our findings highlight the ability of miR-146a to overcome immune suppression and improve CTL infiltration in tumors.

Abstract The intractable brittleness and opacity of the crystalline semiconductor restrict the prospect of developing low‐cost imaging systems. Here, infrared visualization technologies are established with large‐area, semi‐transparent organic upconversion devices that bring high‐resolution invisible images into sight without photolithography. To exploit all photoinduced charge carriers, a monolithic device structure is proposed built on the infrared‐selective, single‐component charge generation layer of chloroaluminum phthalocyanine (ClAlPc) coupled to two visible light‐emitting layers manipulated with unipolar charges. Transient pump‐probe spectroscopy reveals that the ClAlPc‐based device exhibits an efficient charge dissociation process under forward bias. This process is indicated by the prompt and strong features of electroabsorption screening. Furthermore, by imposing the electric field, the ultrafast excited state dynamic suggests a prolonged charge carrier lifetime from the ClAlPc, which facilitates the charge utilization for upconversion luminance. For the first time, >30% of the infrared photons are utilized without photomultiplication strategies owing to the trivial spectrum overlap between ClAlPc and the emitter. In addition, the device can broadcast the acoustic signal by synchronizing the device frequency with the light source, which enables to operate it in dual audio‐visual mode. The work demonstrates the potential of upconversion devices for affordable infrared imaging in wearable electronics.

Abstract Background Immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) is a promising strategy for cancer treatment and has achieved remarkable clinical results. Further improvement of ICB efficacy may advance cancer immunotherapy and has evident medical importance. Here in this study, a PD-1 aptamer was functionalized with a tumor-homing nucleolin aptamer (AS1411) to build a novel bispecific agent (BiApt) for boosting the efficacy of ICB therapy. Results The two aptamers were coupled together via sticky ends to form BiApt, which had an average size of 11.70 nm. Flow cytometry revealed that BiApt could bind with both the activated T cells and the nucleolin-expressing tumor cells. In addition, BiApt could recruit more T cells to the vicinity of nucleolin-positive tumor cells. Functionally, BiApt enhanced the PBMC-mediated anticancer cytotoxicity in vitro compared with free PD-1 aptamer. Moreover, in an animal model of CT26 colon cancer, BiApt significantly boosted the antitumor efficacy vs. free PD-1 aptamer. Conclusion The results suggest that bispecific agent combining ICB and tumor-homing functions has potential to improve the efficacy of ICB immunotherapy.

(1) Background: The effect of Dendrobium nobile Lindl. (D. nobile) on hyperglycemic syndrome has only been recently known for several years. Materials of D. nobile were always collected from the plants cultivated in various growth ages. However, regarding the efficacy of D. nobile on hyperglycemic syndrome, it was still unknown as to which cultivation age would be selected. On the other hand, with the lack of quality markers, it is difficult to control the quality of D. nobile to treat hyperglycemic syndrome. (2) Methods: The effects of D. nobile cultivated at year 1 and year 3 were checked on alloxan-induced diabetic mice while their body weight, diet, water intake, and urinary output were monitored. Moreover, levels of glycosylated serum protein and insulin were measured using Elisa kits. The constituents of D. nobile were identified and analyzed by using UPLC-Q/trap. Quality markers were screened out by integrating the data from UPLC-Q/trap into a network pharmacology model. (3) Results: The D. nobile cultivated at both year 1 and year 3 showed a significant effect on hyperglycemic syndrome at the high dosage level; however, regarding the significant level, D. nobile from year 1 showed the better effect. In D. nobile, most of the metabolites were identified as alkaloids and sesquiterpene glycosides. Alkaloids, represented by dendrobine, were enriched in D. nobile from year 1, while sesquiterpene glycosides were enriched in D. nobile from year 3. Twenty one metabolites were differentially expressed between D. nobile from year 1 and year 3. The aforementioned 21 metabolites were enriched to 34 therapeutic targets directly related to diabetes. (4) Conclusions: Regarding the therapy for hyperglycemic syndrome, D. nobile cultivated at year 1 was more recommended than that at year 3. Alkaloids were recommended to be used as markers to control the quality of D. nobile for hyperglycemic syndrome treatment.

Urban green space sound sources play an important role in providing people with high quality recreation experiences. However, the evaluation index for urban green space sound sources is still limited. The main purpose of this study is to propose indices for soundscape diversity in urban green spaces, compare soundscape diversity with acoustic diversity, and understand the role of soundscape diversity in urban green spaces. In our field investigation, the sound sources of 30 sample sites were recorded over a five-minute period, and the soundscape diversity index (SDI), soundscape richness index (SRI), soundscape dominance index (SDO), and soundscape evenness index (SEI) were calculated. The results showed that soundscape diversity indices are more suitable for the evaluation of urban green space sound diversity than acoustic diversity indices. There is a significant correlation between soundscape diversity and urban green space landscape patterns, and there is a varied relationship between soundscape diversity and sound perception in different urban green spaces. Soundscape diversity can be explained by existing objective acoustic indicators, which can explain 55% of SDI model variations, 71% of SRI model variations, 43% of SDO model variations, and 32% of SEI model variations. Soundscape diversity can be applied to future urban green space planning and acoustic environment design.

Abstract Previous research showed that radiative feedbacks are essential to the spontaneous development of convective aggregation (CSA) in idealized atmosphere models. We find that the contribution of radiative feedbacks decreases with warming and that, in warm climates, CSA occurs without radiative feedbacks. We perform 2D simulations in different climates using a cloud‐resolving model and use a layerwise moist static energy (LMSE) framework to quantify the contribution of radiative feedbacks to the increase of LMSE variance, which characterizes the development of CSA. The result shows that positive radiative contribution dominates the LMSE variance production when SST is below 300 K; when SST exceeds 300 K, adiabatic contribution shifts from negative to positive and dominates the variance production. Then we turn off radiative feedbacks by horizontally homogenizing radiative heating rates at all model levels. CSA still occurs in warmer climates (310–320 K). This result agrees with the LMSE diagnosis and additional 3D simulations.

Background & Aims: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is the fourth leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States. Tyrosine sulfation, catalyzed by the tyrosylprotein sulfotransferase 2 (TPST2), is a post-translational modification essential for protein–protein interactions and cellular functions. Solute carrier family 35 member B (SLC35B2) is a key transporter that transports the universal sulfate donor 3’-phosphoadenosine 5’-phosphosulfate into the Golgi apparatus where the protein sulfation occurs. The goal of this study was to determine whether and how the SLC35B2–TPST2 axis of tyrosine sulfation plays a role in PDAC. Methods: Gene expression was analyzed in PDAC patients and mice. Human PDAC MIA PaCa-2 and PANC-1 cells were used for in vitro studies. TPST2-deficient MIA PaCa-2 cells were generated to assess xenograft tumor growth in vivo. Mouse PDAC cells derived from the KrasLSL-G12D/+;Tp53L/+;Pdx1-Cre (KPC) mice were used to generate Tpst2 knockout KPC cells to evaluate tumor growth and metastasis in vivo. Results: High expressions of SLC35B2 and TPST2 were correlated with poor PDAC patient survival. Knocking down SLC35B2 or TPST2, or pharmacologicically inhibiting sulfation, resulted in the inhibition of PDAC cell proliferation and migration in vitro. TPST2-deficient MIA PaCa-2 cells showed inhibited xenograft tumor growth. Orthotopic inoculation of Tpst2 knockout KPC cells in mice showed inhibition of primary tumor growth, local invasion, and metastasis. Mechanistically, the integrin β4 was found to be a novel substrate of TPST2. Inhibition of sulfation destabilizes integrin β4 protein, which may have accounted for the suppression of metastasis. Conclusions: Targeting the SLC35B2–TPST2 axis of tyrosine sulfation may represent a novel approach for therapeutic intervention of PDAC.

Abstract Urbanization has exposed people to extreme sound levels. Although researchers have investigated the ability of people to listen, analyze, and distinguish sound, the concept of noise has not been clearly articulated from a human perspective. The lack of knowledge on how people perceive noise limits our capacity to control it in a targeted manner. This study aimed to interpret the definition of noise from the public perspective based on a grounded theory approach. Seventy-eight participants were interviewed about noise, and four categories of perceived understanding of noise were identified: challenges, definitions of noise, opportunities, and action. As one of the challenges, urbanization is associated with increased noise levels around the human environment. In terms of definition, perceiving sound as noise is considered to be a result of the complex and dynamic process that includes sound, the environment, and humans. Sound and humans interact with the environment. In terms of opportunities, noise may have positive roles on certain occasions, dispelling the misconception that noise is exclusively negative. In addition, we found that noise perception has gradually shifted from noise control to noise utilization. In terms of action, noise can be controlled at the sound sources, susceptible target groups, susceptible behaviors and states, locations, and times where noise is perceived with high frequency. In this study, we investigated several aspects of noise, ranging from noise control, soundscape definition, and ‘soundscape indices’ (SSID) integration and application. Our findings provide an additional basis for developing better definitions, control, and utilization strategies of noise in the future, thereby improving the quality of the sound environment.

Abstract Since socio-economic development is associated with artificial construction, heritage environments must be protected and renewed while adapting to such development. Many World Heritage Sites’ visual integrity is endangered by new construction. The paper aims to explore people’s visual focus patterns concerning the integrity of heritage to ensure that traditional culture is not endangered by the construction and development of modern life, and to protect Outstanding Universal Values. In this study, visual heatmaps are generated to investigate people’s visual integrity in the Historic Centre of Prague from micro to macro viewpoints using an eye tracker. We found that humans’ perspectives are unobstructed or concentrated, and the view of main attractions is generally maintained by a buffer zone. However, newly constructed high-rise buildings can result in major visual concerns. Therefore, new buildings with large heights and strong contrasting colours should be restricted to World Heritage Sites. Moreover, complex artistic effects (facade midline, domes, mural painting, faces of sculptures) will likely attract people’s attention. In contrast, visual focus is not concentrated on greenery, roofs and floors. Accordingly, greenery could become a flexible space to serve as a background for buildings and landscape nodes. Furthermore, visual focal factors are associated with two significant aspects: people and the environment. Since people and transportation could pose visual concerns, tourism managers should optimise for characteristics such as controlling the density of pedestrian flow and planning parking spaces. The visual patterns identified could be useful for the design, conservation, and management of visual integrity in cultural heritage sites to avoid the spread of artificial constructions within the boundaries of heritage sites, which may lead to their being endangered or delisted.

Dendrobium nobile is a well-known famous traditional Chinese medicine and nourishing food in China and/or other subtropical areas. Alkaloids represented by dendrobine were considered to be the main active components in D. nobile, especially dendrobine was used as the quality marker of D. nobile in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia. Previous literature reported that the content of dendrobine in D. nobile would decrease with increasing growth years. In the present study, we analyzed the secondary metabolites in the stems of 1-year and 3-year grown D. nobile by UPLC-Q/TOF-MS. The results showed that the content of several alkaloid components, except dendrobine, decreased with the increase of growth years. Interestingly, the sesquiterpene glycosides components showed opposite accumulation patterns compared to alkaloids in D. nobile. Based on the biosynthetic pathway of dendrobine, we hypothesized that the decrease in alkaloids contents was due to the glycosylation of sesquiterpenes, the synthetic precursor compounds of alkaloids in D. nobile. The plausibility of this hypothesis was confirmed in the next transcriptome sequencing combined with RT-PCR and molecular docking. The results suggested that UDP-glycosyltransferases play a crucial role in regulating the accumulation of alkaloids and sesquiterpene glycosides in D. nobile. And it is likely that multiple UDP-glycosyltransferases act together in the glycosylation of sesquiterpenes in D. nobile. These results will provide the important information for the good agricultural practice (GAP) production of D. nobile.

Proteins containing the homologous E6-AP carboxyl-terminal (HECT) domain are a class of E3 ubiquitin ligases involved in the ubiquitin–proteasome pathway, which plays an irreplaceable role in plant growth, development, and stress resistance. However, a phylogenetic analysis and expression profile of the HECT gene (PtrHECT) in the model plant Populus trichocarpa (Torr. & Gray) have not been reported. In this study, we identified 13 PtrHECT genes using genome-wide analysis, and then these were divided into four groups. The protein interaction networks showed that the PtrHECT protein may interact with PTR6 and participate in ABA signal regulation. Abiotic stress is the main environmental factor limiting plant growth and development. The qRT-PCR results showed that PtrHECT1, 4, 7, 8, and 9 were significantly up-regulated in leaves at each time point under drought stress, and most PtrHECT genes responded to both drought and high salt stress, consistent with their promoter sequence analysis, revealing the presence of an important number of phytohormone-responsive and stress-related cis-regulatory elements. This study provides useful information for further analysis of the functions of the HECT gene family in P. trichocarpa.

Abstract Fresh mulberry leaf vegetable is nutritive and becoming popular. However, available preservation technologies are deficient. In present work, the effects of two kinds of modified atmosphere packaging on postharvest quality of fresh mulberry leaf vegetable stored at 4 °C were evaluated. The respiration rate of samples in the modified polyethylene packages (MP20) was 12.88–22.65% lower than that in normal polyethylene packaging (CK). The content of total soluble solids, soluble protein, and total polyphenol in MP20 was less changed than that in CK, and the vitamin C retention was higher as well. Moreover, the lignin content in MP20 was lower than that in CK during storage (19.79% vs 13.38% at day 8), and that was significantly positively related to the polyphenol oxidase and peroxidase activities inhibition. Taken together, a packaging with moderate gas permeability (MP20) is suitable for nutrition maintenance and lignification inhibition of fresh mulberry leaf vegetable during cold storage.

The oxysterol receptor liver X receptor (LXR) is a nuclear receptor best known for its function in the regulation of lipid and cholesterol metabolism. LXRs, both the α and β isoforms, have been suggested as potential therapeutic targets for several cancer types. However, there was a lack of report on whether and how LXRα plays a role in the development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In the current study, we found that systemic activation of LXRα in the VP‐LXRα knock‐in (LXRαKI) mice or hepatocyte‐specific activation of LXRα in the VP‐LXRα transgenic mice sensitized mice to liver tumorigenesis induced by the combined treatment of diethylnitrosamine (DEN) and 3,3',5,5'‐tetrachloro‐1,4‐bis (pyridyloxy) benzene (TCPOBOP). Mechanistically, the LXRα‐responsive up‐regulation of interleukin‐6 (IL‐6)/signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) signaling pathway and the complement system, and down‐regulation of bile acid metabolism, may have contributed to increased tumorigenesis. Accumulations of secondary bile acids and oxysterols were found in both the serum and liver tissue of LXRα activated mice. We also observed an induction of monocytic myeloid–derived suppressor cells accompanied by down‐regulation of dendritic cells and cytotoxic T cells in DEN/TCPOBOP‐induced liver tumors, indicating that chronic activation of LXRα may have led to the activation of innate immune suppression. The HCC sensitizing effect of LXRα activation was also observed in the c‐MYC driven HCC model. Conclusion: Our results indicated that chronic activation of LXRα promotes HCC, at least in part, by promoting innate immune suppressor as a result of accumulation of oxysterols, as well as up‐regulation of the IL‐6/Janus kinase/STAT3 signaling and complement pathways.

Abstract Although vacuum‐deposited metal halide perovskite light‐emitting diodes (PeLEDs) have great promise for use in large‐area high‐color‐gamut displays, the efficiency of vacuum‐sublimed PeLEDs currently lags that of solution‐processed counterparts. In this study, highly efficient vacuum‐deposited PeLEDs are prepared through a process of optimizing the stoichiometric ratio of the sublimed precursors under high vacuum and incorporating ultrathin under‐ and upper‐layers for the perovskite emission layer (EML). In contrast to the situation in most vacuum‐deposited organic light‐emitting devices, the properties of these perovskite EMLs are highly influenced by the presence and nature of the upper‐ and presublimed materials, thereby allowing us to enhance the performance of the resulting devices. By eliminating Pb° formation and passivating defects in the perovskite EMLs, the PeLEDs achieve an outstanding external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 10.9% when applying a very smooth and flat geometry; it reaches an extraordinarily high value of 21.1% when integrating a light out‐coupling structure, breaking through the 10% EQE milestone of vacuum‐deposited PeLEDs.

Summary: Hydroformylation is one of the most significant homogeneous reactions. Compared with homogeneous catalysts, heterogeneous catalysts are easy to be separated from the system. However, heterogeneous catalysis faces the problems of low activity and poor chemical/regional selectivity. Therefore, there are theoretical and practical significance to develop efficient heterogeneous catalysts. SACs can be widely applied in hydroformylation in the future, due to the high atom utilization efficiency, stable active sites, easy separation, and recovery. In this review, the recent advances of SACs for hydroformylation are summarized. The regulation of microstructure affected on the reactivity, stability of SACs, and chem/regioselectivity of SACs for hydroformylation are discussed. The support effect, ligand effect, and electron effect on the performance of SACs are proposed, and the catalytic mechanism of SACs is elaborated. Finally, we summarize the current challenges in this field, and propose the design and research ideas of SACs for hydroformylation of olefins.

Photoinduced changes in transmission, reflection and scattering prevent conventional pump-probe spectroscopy to unambiguously assign the origin of spectral signatures. Ashoka et al. have developed an optical modelling technique to extract quantitative and unambiguous changes in the dielectric function from standard pump-probe measurements.

Abstract In recent years, morbidity and mortality of prostate cancer (PCa) have increased dramatically, while mechanistic understanding of its onset and progression remains unmet. LncRNA SNHG3 has been proved to stimulate malignant progression of multiple cancers, whereas its functional mechanism in PCa needs to be deciphered. In this study, our analysis in the TCGA database revealed high SNHG3 expression in PCa tissue. Further analysis in starBase, TargetScan, and mirDIP databases identified the SNHG3/miR-152-3p/SLC7A11 regulatory axis. FISH was conducted to assess the distribution of SNHG3 in PCa tissue. Dual-luciferase reporter gene and RIP assays confirmed the relationship among the three objects. Next, qRT-PCR and western blot were conducted to measure expression levels of SNHG3, miR-152-3p, and SLC7A11. CCK-8, colony formation, Transwell, and flow cytometry were carried out to assess proliferation, migration, invasion, methionine dependence, apoptosis, and the cell cycle. It was noted that SNHG3 as a molecular sponge of miR-152-3p stimulated proliferation, migration, and invasion, restrained methionine dependence and apoptosis, and affected the cell cycle of PCa cells via targeting SLC7A11. Additionally, we constructed xenograft tumor models in nude mice and confirmed that knockdown of SNHG3 could restrain PCa tumor growth and elevate methionine dependence in vivo. In conclusion, our investigation improved understanding of the molecular mechanism of SNHG3 modulating PCa progression, thereby generating novel insights into clinical therapy for PCa.

Abstract Background Although long noncoding RNA HLA complex group 18 (lncRNA HCG18) has been suggested to regulate cell growth in several tumours, the function of HCG18 in epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) and its mechanism are still unclear. Methods shRNAs were applied to reduce HCG18 and related genes. For overexpression of miRNA, a miRNA mimic was transfected into cells. Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT–PCR) was used to detect levels of HCG18, miR-29a/b, and mRNAs. MTT, colony formation, wound healing and Transwell assays were used to evaluate cell proliferation, migration and invasion, respectively. A luciferase reporter assay was utilized to evaluate NF-κB activity and the binding of miRNAs with HCG18 or TRAF4/5. BALB nude mice injected with cells stably expressing shHCG18 or shNC were used for in vivo modelling. Subcutaneous tumour growth was monitored in nude mice, and immunohistochemistry (IHC) was used to determine expression of the proliferation marker Ki67. Results Abnormal expression of HCG18 and miR-29a/b was observed in EOC tissues. Knockdown of HCG18 using shRNA inhibited proliferation, migration, EMT and the proinflammatory pathway in EOC cells. miR-29a/b mimics and TRAF4/5 knockdown exhibited effects similar to HCG18 knockdown. Further experiments suggested that HCG18 directly targets miR-29a/b and upregulates TRAF4/5 expression, which are inhibited by targeting miR-29a/b. Moreover, overexpression of TRAF4/5 antagonized the inhibitory effect of HCG18 knockdown, suggesting that they are involved in HCG18-mediated oncogenic effects. Silencing HCG18 reduced tumour size and levels of Ki67 and TRAF4/5 while increasing miR-29a/b levels in vivo. Conclusions Taken together, our data revealed an oncogenic signalling pathway mediated by HCG18 in ovarian cell lines, which functions as a ceRNA of miR-29a/b and thus derepresses expression levels of TRAF4/5, facilitating NF-κB pathway-mediated promotion of EOC cell proliferation and migration.

We have developed a guided ptychography iterative engine (gPIE) algorithm that applies the concept of optimization to the conventional ePIE (extended ptychography iterative engine) approach. Instead of accessing a random or spiral trajectory among the collected diffraction patterns to implement the phase-retrieval, gPIE guides the searching direction through the local minimum and minimizes the cost function, which is the difference between the calculated intensities and the experimental ones, to approach the global minimum. Compared with ePIE, gPIE robustly reconstructs a more accurate sample and illumination, thus revealing the correct surface topology. The feasibility of gPIE was verified experimentally by acquiring sequential diffraction patterns from a UV laser.

IntroductionPrevious soundscape studies focused on sound perception and acoustic comfort in sampled sites and ignored the characteristics of the experiential process along the paths. Therefore, the effects of soundwalk paths on soundscape assessment should be explored.MethodsIn this study, a typical urban park was selected as a case study. The differences, characteristics, and effects of soundwalk paths on the soundscapes were explored, based on a soundwalk survey and laboratory study.ResultsThe results are as follows: first, in the soundwalk, different soundwalk paths in the urban park had significant effects on the perceived extent of individual sound and soundscape assessment. Second, the soundscape assessment was consistent with the peak-end rule. In the laboratory experiments, the peak assessment of soundscape appeared at the end location of the soundwalk paths, it was critical to the overall soundscape assessment. Furthermore, in the soundwalk, the overall perceived extent of individual sound was strongly affected by the perceived extent of dominant sounds at the end location of the soundwalk paths. Third, in the soundwalk, the sound loudness contrast path (noise-quiet/quiet-noise) and sound source contrast path (natural-artificial sound/artificial-natural sound) were compared. Weakening the electrical resistivity-temperature dependence of cross-linked polyethene (XLPE) is an effective way to enhance the electric field uniformity of high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cables. Therefore, an attempt is made to suppress the negative temperature coefficient (NTC) of electrical resistivity by incorporating BaTiO3-based ceramic fillers with positive temperature coefficient (PTC) electrical resistivity into XLPE. Morphology characterization indicated that PTC particles were well dispersed in the XLPE matrix. The measurements of electrical resistivity and DC breakdown strength are carried out from 30 °C to 90 °C. The electrical resistivity and DC breakdown strength of the sample at high temperatures were significantly improved with the introduction of PTC particles, which is attributed to the deep traps near the Curie temperature region. The high doping content has a better suppression of the NTC effect. The activation energy (0.63 eV) and NTC strength (1.74) of the sample with the addition of 10 wt% of PTC are considerably reduced compared with XLPE. The content of PTC particles was positively correlated to the enhancement of electrical resistivity and DC breakdown strength. The optimum content for DC breakdown strength is about 5 wt%. The low electrical resistivity-temperature dependence of insulation performance shows a potential to obtain temperature-stable HVDC cable insulation.

Light field (LF) semantic segmentation is a newly arisen technology and is widely used in many smart city applications such as remote sensing, virtual reality and 3D photogrammetry. Compared with RGB images, LF images contain multi-layer contextual information and rich geometric information of real-world scenes, which are challenging to be fully exploited because of the complex and highly inter-twined structure of LF. In this paper, LF Contextual Feature (LFCF) and LF Geometric Feature (LFGF) are proposed respectively for occluded area perception and segmentation edge refinement. With exploitation of all the views in LF, LFCF provides glimpse of some occluded areas from other angular positions besides the superficial color information of the target view. The multi-layer information of the occluded area enhances the classification of partly occluded objects. Whereas LFGF is extracted from Ray Epipolar-Plane Images (RayEPIs) in eight directions for geometric information embedding. The solid geometric information refines object edges, especially for occlusion boundaries with similar colors. At last, Light Field Robust Segmentation Network (LFRSNet) is designed to integrate LFCF and LFGF. Multi-layer contextual information and geometric information are effectively incorporated through LFRSNet, which brings significant improvement for segmentation of the occluded objects and the object edges. Experimental results on both realworld and synthetic datasets proves the state-of-the-art performance of our method. Compared with other methods, LFRSNet produces more accurate segmentation under occlusion, especially in the edge regions.

BackgroundWhile current concerns about bioresorbable scaffolds (BRS) are centered on late or very late scaffold thrombosis, less attention had been paid to short- and mid-term clinical outcomes. This review aimed to compare the short- and mid-term outcomes between BRS and drug-eluting stents (DES).MethodsA systematic review of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that compared BRS vs. DES was conducted by searching PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, CNKI, WanFang, and VIP databases from inception until 19 April 2022 (language limited to English or Chinese). The primary outcome was target lesion failure (TLF) within 12 months, defined as a composite of target lesion revascularization (TLR), target vessel myocardial infarction (TVMI), and cardiac death. The secondary outcomes were in-stent diameter stenosis (DS%) provided by intraluminal imaging.ResultsA total of 13 studies were eligible and were included in this review (N = 9,702 patients). The follow-up duration ranged from 6 months to 1 year. A significantly higher rate of TLF [RR, 1.22, 95% CI (1.03, 1.44)] driven by the higher rate of TVMI [RR, 1.39, 95% CI (1.09, 1.76)] was observed in the BRS group than in the DES group. The risk of TLR and cardiac death was similar between the groups. Also, compared with the DES group, the BRS group had a significantly higher in-stent DS% within 1 year [MD = 5.23, 95%CI (3.43, 7.04); I2 = 97%; p < 0.00001].ConclusionBioresorbable scaffolds were associated with an increased risk of target lesion failure within 1 year as compared with DES, driven by the increased rates of target vessel myocardial infarction. Also, the in-stent DS% seemed to be higher with BRS. Abstract Ultrafast transient absorption spectroscopy is a powerful tool to reveal excited state dynamics in various materials. Conventionally, probe pulses are generated via bulk supercontinuum generation or (noncollinear) optical parametric amplifiers whilst pump pulses are generated separately using (noncollinear) optical parametric amplifiers. These systems are limited by either their spectral density, stability, spectral range, and/or temporal compressibility. Recently, a new intense broadband light source is being developed, the multi-plate compression, which promises to overcome these limitations. In this paper, we analyze the supercontinuum generated by a single Multiple Plate Compression system to set a benchmark for its use in the field of ultrafast pump-probe spectroscopy. We have compressed the supercontinuum to 3.3 fs using chirp mirrors alone, making it an excellent candidate for pump-probe experiments requiring high temporal resolution. Furthermore, the single light source can be used to generate both probe and pump pulses due to its high spectral density (>14.5 nJ/nm) between 490 and 890 nm. The intensity has an average shot-to-shot relative standard deviation of 4.6 % over 490 to 890 nm, calculated over 2,000 sequential shots. By using only 1,000 shot pairs, a $$\Delta T/T$$ Δ T / T noise level of $$2.6\times 10^{-4}$$ 2.6 × 10 - 4 RMS is achieved. Finally, as a proof of concept, the transient absorption spectrum of a methylammonium lead iodide perovskite film is taken, showing great signal to noise with only 1,000 shot pairs. These results show great potential for the employment of this technique in other spectroscopic techniques such as coherent multidimensional spectroscopy.
