Abstract The use of jewelry among healthcare professionals poses a risk of cross contamination due to potential bacterial accumulation and spread. Through a mixed-method design, this study first analyzed the implications of healthcare professionals wearing jewelry on patient care biosafety as well as on the residual bacterial load of hands and rings after hand hygiene. Firstly, an observational prevalence study to verify whether nursing professionals wear personal accessories during healthcare assistance was carried out. Second, an experimental design involving intentional contamination and hygiene of the hands, with and without a ring, was conducted. The bacterial load of both hands and rings was measured by counting colony forming units. The observational study showed that nursing workers frequently wear jewelry during healthcare assistance. Nonetheless, the experimental study did not indicate differences in bacterial contamination between hands with and without a ring, despite the hand hygiene procedure applied. In conclusion, many nursing workers wear jewelry in the workplace. Although hands with and without a ring exhibited similar microbial load, rings appeared as a potential source of bacterial contamination, reinforcing the need to remove jewelry during working hours. Hand hygiene using alcohol, or soap and water significantly decreased the bacterial load on the participants’ hands, with handwashing proving to be the most efficient method for removing intentional contamination.

Resumo Objetivo Investigar as evidências de validade da Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21) para análise da prevalência de sintomas de depressão, ansiedade e estresse em uma amostra de trabalhadores de enfermagem brasileiros. Métodos Estudo transversal, com amostragem não-probabilística. Participaram do estudo 4053 trabalhadores de enfermagem brasileiros. As propriedades psicométricas da DASS-21 foram avaliadas por meio de análise da validade baseada na estrutura interna (validade de construto fatorial, convergente e discriminante; invariância do modelo fatorial; confiabilidade); validade baseada nas relações com medidas externas (validade convergente positiva e negativa dos fatores depressão, ansiedade e estresse com os construtos prejuízo emocional, satisfação no trabalho e variáveis individuais e ocupacionais); validade baseada no padrão de resposta aos itens do instrumento (análise da função diferencial dos itens em subgrupos distintos). A confiabilidade dos dados foi atestada por meio da estimação do coeficiente alfa ordinal e da confiabilidade composta. A prevalência de sintomas de depressão, ansiedade e estresse foi estimada a partir das recomendações dos autores originais da DASS-21. Resultados Durante a validação da estrutura interna, a análise fatorial confirmatória revelou que o modelo original da DASS-21 apresentou ajustamento adequado para a amostra e foi atestada a invariância de medida forte do modelo entre grupos distintos. A análise baseada em medidas externas mostrou que os fatores depressão, ansiedade e estresse apresentaram correlações positivas e moderadas-fortes com o domínio prejuízo emocional e correlações negativas e moderadas com o construto satisfação no trabalho. A análise do padrão de repostas aos itens comprovou a uniformidade e a estabilidade do instrumento para a amostra. Quanto aos sintomas, destaca-se a alta prevalência de níveis extremamente graves de depressão, ansiedade e estresse entre os participantes. Conclusão A DASS-21 apresentou adequada validade e confiabilidade para a avaliação de sintomas de depressão, ansiedade e estresse entre trabalhadores de enfermagem brasileiros.

Para garantir assistência de qualidade a gestante e ao neonato, o estado do Paraná, conta com a Rede Mãe Paranaense. Sendo assim, o estudo teve como objetivo analisar a assistência pré-natal entre mulheres de extremo de idade, atendidas pela Rede, realizado em duas Regionais de Saúde, uma fronteiriça e outra no interior do Estado, entre julho de 2017 a fevereiro de 2018. ABSTRACT Objective To summarize the knowledge about recommendations for the use of personal protective equipment necessary for the provision of care by health professionals to patients suspected or infected by the new coronavirus. Method Scoping review with search for primary studies, reviews and preprints articles in English, Portuguese and Spanish, in the last 20 years on the bases WOS/ISI, SCOPUS, MEDLINE/PuBMed, CINAHL, LILACS and SciELO. Unpublished studies in journals were surveyed on bioRxiv and SciELO preprints. Results 23 studies were eligible. Experiences with coronavirus prior to SARS-CoV-2 revealed that the equipment was an essential barrier in preventing transmission and followed the recommendations for standard precautions, contact, droplet and aerosol. In 13 (57%) studies, this equipment complied international recommendations and in 10 (45%) local recommendations. Conclusion The personal protective equipment used does not follow global standardization according to type, quality and adequate provision, exposing these professionals to the risk of contamination.

Abstract Objective: To evaluate the intensity and discomfort of perioperative thirst and related factors during anesthesia recovery. Method: This is a quantitative, cross-sectional, descriptive study. Results: Of the 203 participants, 182 (89.6%) reported they were thirsty. The mean intensity of thirst was 6.9 measured using a verbal numerical scale of 0 to 10 and discomfort was 7.3 on a scale of 0 to 14. All attributes evaluated by the scale were cited including dry mouth and desire to drink water (87.3%), dry lips (79.1%), thick tongue feeling (43.4%), thick saliva (56.5%), dry throat (75.2%) and bad taste in the mouth (63.1%). Objective: to translate and culturally adapt the Risk assessment and management of exposure of health care workers in the context of covid-19 questionnaire to the Brazilian context and to develop and evaluate a sociodemographic and occupational characterization questionnaire to compose the adapted questionnaire. Method: five stages were conducted to adapt the Risk assessment and management of exposure of health care workers in the context of covid-19 questionnaire, namely: translation, synthesis of the translations, evaluation by a committee of judges, back translation and pre-test. As for the complementary questionnaire, it was elaborated and evaluated by a committee of judges and a pre-test was carried out. Results: the questionnaires were validated and the pre-test stage was conducted with health workers and students. Conclusion: the final version adapted to the Brazilian context was called Questionário de avaliação de risco e gestão da exposição de trabalhadores e estudantes de saúde no contexto da covid-19 and is available for use, together with the final version of the Sociodemographic and occupational questionnaire: Risk assessment and management of exposure of health care workers and students in the context of covid-19. These questionnaires may assist in mitigating the risks of infection, illness and death of health workers and students due to covid-19.
