INTRODUCTION Myoelectric hands progressed from single grip hands (traditional myoelectric devices (TH)) to be multi-grip hands (MGH) which are hypothesized to bring more degrees of freedom, greater range of motion and improved grasping capabilities1,2. Their impact on patients’ lives has been documented in only a few case studies. Adenine nucleotides (ANs)—adenosine 5′-triphosphate (ATP), adenosine 5′-diphosphate (ADP), and adenosine 5′-monophosphate (AMP)—are essential for energy transfer and the supply of countless processes within cellular metabolism. Their concentrations can be expressed as adenylate energy charge (AEC), a measure of cellular metabolic energy that directly correlates with the homeostasis of the organism. AEC index has broad diagnostic potential, as reduced ATP levels are associated to various conditions, such as inflammatory diseases, metabolic disorders, and cancer. We introduce a novel methodology for rapid isolation, purification, and quantification of ANs from a single drop of capillary blood. Of all the stationary phases tested, activated carbon proved to be the most efficient for the purification of adenine nucleotides, using an automated micro-solid phase extraction (µ-SPE) platform. An optimized µ-SPE method, coupled with RP-HPLC and a run time of 30 min, provides a reliable analytical framework for adenine nucleotide analysis of diverse biological samples. AN concentrations measured in capillary blood samples were 1393.1 µM, 254.8 µM, and 76.9 µM for ATP, ADP, and AMP molecules aligning with values reported in the literature. Overall, this study presents a streamlined and precise approach for analyzing ANs from microliters of blood, offering promising applications in clinical diagnostics.

This study investigated the sensory characteristics and overall acceptability of turmeric- and black-pepper-enriched ice creams. For this purpose, a control sample (C) and a series of flavoured ice creams were prepared as follows: samples with 0.5%, 1.0%, and 2.0% of turmeric powder (T0, T1, and T2), and samples with a mixture of turmeric (0.5%, 1.0%, and 2.0%), and 0.02% of black pepper (T0p, T1p, and T2p). Participants (n = 103) were asked to rate the acceptability of the ice creams using a nine-point hedonic scale, the liking of attributes by a five-point scale, the evaluation of attributes intensity by a just-about-right (JAR) scale, and attribute characterisation through a CATA test. They were also asked about their purchase and consumption intention of prepared ice cream samples. The addition of turmeric powder significantly (p < 0.05) affected the sensory properties of the ice cream, whereas no correlation was found between the addition of black pepper and consumers’ ratings of the evaluated samples. According to the results, besides the control sample, the ice cream with 0.5% of turmeric powder and 0.02% black pepper (T0p) had the most desired attributes and the highest score for overall liking (6.94). In conclusion, these valuable spices could be used in the production of ice cream with potential functional properties.

At the sites on the Middle and Lower Danube, especially in the civilian settlements next to the big military camps, was found a great number of cameos made of semi-precious stones, variations of opal, onyx and agate, on which is represented a woman’s bust in profile, turned to the right or to the left. The characteristics of the face are in the most cases schematic, while the hairstyles are represented very precisely, according to the fashion dictated by the empresses from the dynasties of Antonini and Severi. On the basis of these facts were separated the chronological groups of these finds, which show that the most intensive production of the cameos of this type took place in the periods from 160 to 180 and from 200 to 230. Most numerous are the finds of cameos with the female busts combed like the empresses from the dynasty of Severi, when the cities on Danube lived in prosperity. To this group belongs also a cameo in the gold medallion, discovered in 2006 in one grave in Viminacium (Nº 25). From this site comes the greatest number of these cameos (probably 11), which, together with the finds from Upper Moesia, points that the important workshops for their production can be located in Viminacium, Novae and Durostorum, while some smaller glyptic centres worked in Thrace and Pannonia. The female busts on cameos are the models of the faces of empresses, so we look at this material as a form of dynastic propaganda.
