In order to explore the superior eating quality of Wuchang rice, the preference ranking test and a modified version of Rate-All-That-Apply (RATA) were used to study the differences in the overall preference and sensory attributes between rice from different townships in Wuchang city and between Wuchang rice and rice from other regions. Principal component analysis (PCA) and classification and regression tree (CART) were combined to classify rice from different regions. The results showed that rice from different regions had different sensory characteristics. Wuchang rice had a sweet and clean taste, smooth and elastic texture, and strong aroma. Its eating quality was significantly superior to that of rice from other regions. A total of 12 sensory attributes including appearance (fullness, completeness, and looseness), odor (rice-like, clean aroma), taste (sweetness and sweet aftertaste), and texture characteristics (stickiness palatability, softness/hardness, elasticity, smoothness and delicacy) were identified as the key sensory attributes to discriminate among rice from different regions. This study provides a theoretical basis and reference for the establishment of a sensory evaluation system for Wuchang rice.

Abstract The extracellular matrix (ECM) governs a wide spectrum of cellular fate processes, with a particular emphasis on anoikis, an integrin‐dependent form of cell death. Currently, anoikis is defined as an intrinsic apoptosis. In contrast to traditional apoptosis and necroptosis, integrin correlates ECM signaling with intracellular signaling cascades, describing the full process of anoikis. However, anoikis is frequently overlooked in physiological and pathological processes as well as traditional in vitro research models. In this review, we summarized the role of anoikis in physiological and pathological processes, spanning embryonic development, organ development, tissue repair, inflammatory responses, cardiovascular diseases, tumor metastasis, and so on. Similarly, in the realm of stem cell research focused on the functional evolution of cells, anoikis offers a potential solution to various challenges, including in vitro cell culture models, stem cell therapy, cell transplantation, and engineering applications, which are largely based on the regulation of cell fate by anoikis. More importantly, the regulatory mechanisms of anoikis based on molecular processes and ECM signaling will provide new strategies for therapeutic interventions (drug therapy and cell‐based therapy) in disease. In summary, this review provides a systematic elaboration of anoikis, thus shedding light on its future research.

BackgroundCognitive impairment and brain atrophy are common in chronic kidney disease patients. It remains unclear whether differences in renal function, even within normal levels, influence hippocampal volume (HCV) and cognition. We aimed to investigate the association between estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), HCV and cognition in outpatients.MethodsThis single-center retrospective study enrolled 544 nonrenal outpatients from our hospital. All participants underwent renal function assessment and 3.0 T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the same year. HCV was also measured, and cognitive assessments were obtained. The correlations between eGFR, HCV, and cognitive function were analyzed. Logistic regression analysis was performed to identify the risk factors for hippocampal atrophy and cognitive impairment. Receiver-operator curves (ROCs) were performed to find the cut-off value of HCV that predicts cognitive impairment.ResultsThe mean age of all participants was 66.5 ± 10.9 years. The mean eGFR of all participants was 88.5 ± 15.1 mL/min/1.73 m2. eGFR was positively correlated with HCV and with Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) scores. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis showed Age ≥ 65 years, eGFR < 75 mL/min/1.73 m2, Glucose ≥6.1 mmol/L and combined cerebral microvascular diseases were independent risk factors for hippocampal atrophy and Age ≥ 65 years, left hippocampal volume (LHCV)

At present, the back-propagation (BP) network algorithm widely used in the short-term output prediction of photovoltaic power stations has the disadvantage of ignoring meteorological factors and weather conditions in the input. The existing traditional BP prediction model lacks a variety of numerical optimization algorithms, such that the prediction error is large. The back-propagation (BP) neural network is easy to fall into local optimization thus reducing the prediction accuracy in photovoltaic power prediction. In order to solve this problem, an improved grey wolf optimization (GWO) algorithm is proposed to optimize the photovoltaic power prediction model of the BP neural network. So, an improved grey wolf optimization algorithm optimized BP neural network for a photovoltaic (PV) power prediction model is proposed. Dynamic weight strategy, tent mapping and particle swarm optimization (PSO) are introduced in the standard grey wolf optimization (GWO) to construct the PSO–GWO model. The relative error of the PSO–GWO–BP model predicted data is less than that of the BP model predicted data. The average relative error of PSO–GWO–BP and GWO–BP models is smaller, the average relative error of PSO–GWO–BP model is the smallest, and the prediction stability of the PSO–GWO–BP model is the best. The model stability and prediction accuracy of PSO–GWO–BP are better than those of GWO–BP and BP.

DC voltage stability and power balance are the key conditions for stable operation of DC transmission systems. The droop control does not depend on inter-station communication and has the advantage of multi-station cooperative unbalanced power dissipation, which has been widely used in the voltage source converter based multi-terminal direct current (VSC-MTDC) system. However, its control will cause DC voltage deviation, and there are a series of problems such as unstable system control and overload operation of the VSC-station due to improper setting of droop coefficient. In this paper, the infeasibility of DC voltage error-free correction under droop control mode is theoretically analyzed, and a VSC-MTDC cooperative optimization droop control strategy with DC voltage "quasi-error-free" adjustment ability is proposed. The strategy adjusts the droop coefficient in real-time by monitoring the DC voltage deviation and the power margin of the VSC-station to solve the problem of voltage deviation caused by unbalanced power consumption. At the same time, an additional DC voltage stabilizer is designed to automatically adjust the power reference value and restore the DC voltage. Finally, a five-terminal VSC-MTDC system is built under PSCAD/EMTDC to verify the feasibility of the proposed strategy.

This research aims to optimize the comprehensive performance of wood-based electromagnetic shielding interference (EMI) materials and master the effect of heat treatment on its coating density, interfacial morphology, conductivity, and hydrophobic and electromagnetic shielding. The results showed that the surface roughness of composite coatings was 11.0 μm when the wood was conducted via electroless two deposition Cu and one Ni and the heat treatment temperature was 150 °C. The composite coating’s surface gradually became more uniform with increasing temperature. The coating’s thickness via 120 °C heat treatment was 97.5 μm. Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) spectra verified the existence of Cu and Ni particles. The heat treatment had an obvious influence on conductivity of composite materials and the pore network structure. The contact angle of composite materials reached 119°. The average electromagnetic shielding efficiency via 180 °C heat treatment was up to 91.4 dB in the frequency ranging from 300 to 3.0 GHz, which verified that the composite materials can shield 99.99% of the incident electromagnetic wave energy. The conductivity gradient structure can realize multi-dielectric interface loss and multiple reflection loss.

Abstract Background Genetic variants associated with acute side effects of radiotherapy in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) remain largely unknown. Methods We performed a two-stage genome-wide association analysis including a total of 1084 patients, where 319 individuals in the discovery stage were genotyped for 688,783 SNPs using whole genome-wide screening microarray. Significant variants were then validated in an independent cohort of 765 patients using the MassARRAY system. Gene mapping, linkage disequilibrium, genome-wide association analysis, and polygenic risk score were conducted or calculated using FUMA, LDBlockShow, PLINK, and PRSice software programs, respectively. Results Five SNPs (rs6711678, rs4848597, rs4848598, rs2091255, and rs584547) showed statistical significance after validation. Radiotherapy toxicity was more serious in mutant minor allele carriers of all five SNPs. Stratified analysis further indicated that rs6711678, rs4848597, rs4848598, and rs2091255 correlated with skin toxicity in patients of EBV positive, late stage (III and IV), receiving both concurrent chemoradiotherapy and induction/adjuvant chemotherapy, and with OR values ranging from 1.92 to 2.66. For rs584547, high occurrence of dysphagia was found in A allele carriers in both the discovery (P = 1.27 × 10− 6, OR = 1.55) and validation (P = 0.002, OR = 4.20) cohorts. Furthermore, prediction models integrating both genetic and clinical factors for skin reaction and dysphagia were established. The area under curve (AUC) value of receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were 0.657 (skin reaction) and 0.788 (dysphagia). Conclusions Rs6711678, rs4848597, rs4848598, and rs2091255 on chromosome 2q14.2 and rs584547 were found to be novel risk loci for skin toxicity and dysphagia in NPC patients receiving radiotherapy. Diarrhea caused by zoonotic pathogens is one of the most common diseases in dairy calves, threatening the health of young animals. Humans are also at risk, in particular children. To explore the pathogens causing diarrhea in dairy calves, the present study applied PCR-based sequencing tools to investigate the occurrence and molecular characteristics of three parasites (Cryptosporidium spp., Giardia duodenalis, and Enterocytozoon bieneusi) and three bacterial pathogens (Escherichia coli, Clostridium perfringens, and Salmonella spp.) in 343 fecal samples of diarrheic dairy calves from five farms in Lingwu County, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, China. The total positive rate of these pathogens in diarrheic dairy calves was 91.0% (312/343; 95% CI, 87.9–94.0), with C. perfringens (61.5%, 211/343; 95% CI, 56.3–66.7) being the dominant one. The dynamic evolution mechanism of gas explosion pressure drop is the basis of theoretical and field application research of point type gas fracturing coal seam permeability increasing technology. The experimental results show that the pressure time history trend after the gas explosion is triggered generally presents a rapid rise and a nonlinear decline; due to the coupling effect of the non-uniform gas ejection and the noise of the piezoelectric sensor itself, the local irregular and unsteady pressure fluctuation occurs. It is found that the gas explosion port has the fastest rate of pressure rise, and the time and distance between the gas explosion port and the gas explosion port increase slowly after a rapid increase, which shows a power-law of pressure rise as a whole; the gas explosion port is the peak pressure area, and the gas explosion pressure decreases with the increase of distance from the gas explosion port, which shows a quadratic parabola of unsteady pressure drop as a whole.

Background: The causal relationship between childhood obesity and stroke remains unclear. Our objective was to elucidate the causal relationship between childhood obesity and the risk of stroke and its subtypes by performing Mendelian randomisation (MR) analyses.Methods: Genetic instruments for childhood obesity were obtained from a genome-wide association study (GWAS) of 13,848 European participants. Summary level data for stroke, intracerebral haemorrhage, ischaemic stroke (IS), and its subtypes were evaluated using the MEGASTROKE GWAS dataset, which included 446,696 European adults. Inverse-variance weighting, weighted-median analysis, MR-Egger regression, MR Pleiotropy RESidual Sum and Outlier test (MR-PRESSO), and MR-Robust Adjusted Profile Score were applied in this MR analysis. The leave-one-out sensitivity test, MR-PRESSO Global test, and Cochran’s Q test were conducted to confirm the accuracy and robustness of our results.Results: Genetic evaluations revealed that childhood obesity was associated with a higher risk of stroke (OR = 1.04, 95%CI: 1.01–1.07, p = 0.005) and IS (OR = 1.05, 95%CI: 1.02–1.08, p = 0.003), but not with intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH, OR = 0.93, 95%CI: 0.80–1.09, p = 0.39). In the subtype analysis, childhood obesity was also associated with large artery stroke (LAS, OR = 1.12, 95%CI: 1.02–1.22, p = 0.016) but not with cardioembolic stroke (OR = 1.06, 95%CI: 0.96–1.18, p = 0.21) and small vessel stroke (OR = 1.06, 95%CI: 0.98–1.15, p = 0.17). These results were stable in the sensitivity analysis and remained significant after Bonferroni correction.Conclusion: Our study provides evidence that childhood obesity is associated with a higher risk of stroke, IS, and LAS. The prevention of stroke, especially IS and LAS, should be promoted in populations with childhood obesity.

Abstract CSDE1 (cold shock domain containing E1) plays a key role in translational reprogramming, which determines the fate of a number of RNAs during biological processes. Interestingly, the role of CSDE1 is bidirectional. It not only promotes and represses the translation of RNAs but also increases and decreases the abundance of RNAs. However, the mechanisms underlying this phenomenon are still unknown. In this review, we propose a “protein-RNA connector” model to explain this bidirectional role and depict its three versions: sequential connection, mutual connection and facilitating connection. As described in this molecular model, CSDE1 binds to RNAs and cooperates with other protein regulators. CSDE1 connects with different RNAs and their regulators for different purposes. The triple complex of CSDE1, a regulator and an RNA reprograms translation in different directions for each transcript. Meanwhile, a number of recent studies have found important roles for CSDE1 in human diseases. This model will help us to understand the role of CSDE1 in translational reprogramming and human diseases. Video Abstract Graphical abstract

Abstract Platinum-based chemotherapy is a major therapeutic regimen of lung cancer. Various single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) reported were associated with platinum-based chemotherapy response and drug toxicity. However, neither of the studies explored this association from SNP-SNP interaction perspective nor taking into effects of SNP-environment consideration simultaneously. We genotyped 504 polymorphisms and explore the association of gene-gene and gene-environment interactions with platinum-based chemotherapy response and toxicity in 490 NSCLC patients. 16 SNPs were found significantly associated with platinum-based chemotherapy, and they were picked out as study object in the validation cohort. We recruited 788 patients in the validation cohort. We found that HSPD1 rs17730989-SUMF1 rs2633851 interaction was associated with platinum-based chemotherapy-induced hematologic toxicity (adjusted OR = 0.233, P = 0.018). In addition, the combined effect of ABCG2 rs2231142-CES5A rs3859104 was significantly associated with overall toxicity (adjusted OR = 8.044, P = 4.350 × 10−5). Besides, the model of ARHGAP26 rs3776332-ERCC6 rs2228528-SLC2A1 rs4658-histology was associated with platinum-based chemotherapeutic response. Gene-gene and gene-environment interactions have been identified to contribute to chemotherapy sensitivity and toxicity. They can potentially predict drug response and toxicity of platinum-based chemotherapy in NSCLC patients.

Alley cropping allows the famer to effectively use available resources and yield more benefits. Choosing suitable associated crop and mitigating the competition between trees and crops are crucial for designing the alley cropping systems. We conducted a long-term experiment, including apple (Malus pumila)/peanut (Arachis hypogaea), apple/millet (Setaria italica) and apple/maize (Zea mays) alley cropping systems with conventional intercropping distance, and corresponding monocultures (Exp.1), and a short-term experiment with improved intercropping distance in the same three combinations (Exp.2) in the Loess Plateau, China. The results showed crop yields in three alley cropping systems were lower than the corresponding monocultures. Apple yields were significantly constrained by millet and maize in the alley cropping systems, but not sensitive to the presence of peanut. Land equivalent ratios (LERs) ranged from 0.44 to 0.89 before the tree bore fruit. The LERs were greater than 1.0 after the tree bore fruit, and the apple trees made a decisive contribution to the land use advantage. Net present values of three alley cropping systems were on average 60.1% higher than the corresponding monocultures across the alley cropping period. The maximum annual present value in the first–fifth, sixth and seventh–ninth years after the alley cropping establishment was observed in the apple/maize, apple/millet and apple/peanut system, respectively. These results highlight that choosing the optimal alley cropping management and suitable associated crops at different years after establishment may allow farmers to increase the land use efficiency and economic profitability.
