Having been developed in accordance with the Montreal Protocol, R134a has been proposed as a potential replacement for R12. In accordance with the Kyoto Protocol, the use of R134a, which has a significant global warming potential, must be restricted. It has been stated that there is no one refrigerant or combination available that can address both the ozone depletion potential (ODP) and the global warming potential (GWP) concerns at the same time. According to the research, the goal of this effort was to produce an environmentally friendly refrigerant combination with minimal ODP and GWP values that perform virtually identically to R12 in terms of performance. With extremely low ODP and GWP values, R406a has the potential to be a useful refrigerant. Experimental investigations conducted on R406a refrigerant have shown that it may be a viable replacement for R12. In this research, the pressure drop created by the torsion in the steam condensation of R-406a inside the horizontal tubes and also changes in the heat transfer coefficient are investigated experimentally. In each experiment, parameters such as mass flow, refrigerant temperature and pressure, and water at the inlet and outlet of the condensers were measured. Examination of the results for annular and torsional fins pipes, it was determined that heat transfer and pressure drop increase with the reduction of the pitch. The use of spirals increases the average heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop by about 47% and 220%, respectively, compared to the pipe without fins. Finally, using the results from the twisted tubes and based on the relationships that best match the experimental results related to the pressure drop, a new relationship for the pressure drop in the twisted tubes was obtained. The values calculated by it are in the range of approximately 15% of the experimental values.

In recent years, due to the low thermal coefficients of common fluids and the increase in size and cost of heat exchangers, technologies for improving heat transfer and reducing dimensions have been developed and widely used in industries such as refrigeration, cooling of processing cells, chemical industries, and more. Previously, increasing heat exchange capacity in heat exchangers was achieved by altering parameters such as boundary conditions, flow geometry, heat exchanger geometry, or changing the type of fluid. Additionally, apart from the use of nanofluids, various other operational methods can be employed to improve the thermal performance of heat exchangers. Accordingly, considering the combination of the aforementioned innovative techniques, this study presents the modeling of flow and heat transfer inside helically coiled tube heat exchangers under the flow of nanofluids containing nickel, gold, silver, and gold/silver hybrid nanoparticles using numerical and artificial intelligence methods. In this study, the effect of variations in the inner diameter of the coiled tube and the volume fraction of nanoparticles was examined. The results showed that increasing the inner diameter and volume fraction of nanoparticles leads to an increase in heat transfer coefficient and Nusselt number, while the friction factor decreases with an increase in Reynolds number and increases with an increase in diameter and volume fraction. Finally, the accuracy and validity of the model were evaluated using statistical parameters and experimental results, which showed a 99.9% level of agreement between the predicted and experimental outcomes.

ABSTRACT: This study is conducted to investigate turbulent natural convection flow in an enclosure with thermal sources using the low-Reynolds number (LRN) k-? model. This enclosure has a cold source with temperature Tc and a hot source with temperature Th as thermal sources, other walls of the enclosure are adiabatic. The aim of this study is to predict the effect of change in Rayleigh number, repositioning of cold and hot sources, and thermal sources aspect ratio on the flow field, temperature, and rate of heat transfer. To achieve this aim, the equations of continuity, momentum, energy, turbulent kinetic energy, and kinetic energy dissipation are employed in the case of 2D turbulence with constant thermo-physical properties except the density in the buoyancy term (Boussinesq approximation). To numerically solve these equations, the finite volume method and SIMPLE algorithm are used. According to the modeling results, the most optimal temperature distribution in the enclosure is seen when the hot source is below the cold source. With decreasing distance between hot and cold sources, heat transfer rate increases. The maximal heat transfer rate is derived via study of the heating sources aspect ratio. In constant positions of cold and hot sources on a wall, the heat transfer rate increases with increasing Rayleigh number (Ra=109-1011). ABSTAK: Kajian ini dijalankan bagi mengkaji perubahan semula jadi aliran perolakan dalam tempat tertutup dengan sumber haba menggunakan model k-? nombor Reynolds-rendah (LRN). Bekas tertutup ini mempunyai dua sumber haba iaitu sumber sejuk dengan suhu Tc dan sumber panas dengan suhu Th, manakala dinding lain bekas ini adalah adiabatik. Tujuan kajian ini adalah bagi mengesan perubahan nombor Rayleigh, mengubah sumber sejuk dan panas dan nisbah sumber haba kepada kawasan aliran, suhu dan halaju perubahan haba. Bagi mencapai tujuan tersebut, persamaan sambungan, momentum, tenaga, tenaga kinetik perolakan, dan pengurangan tenaga kinetik telah dilaksanakan dalam kes perolakan 2D dengan sifat fizikal-haba berterusan (malar) kecuali isipadu terma keapungan (anggaran Boussinesq). Bagi menyelesaikan persamaan ini secara berangka, kaedah isipadu terhad dan algorithma MUDAH telah digunakan. Berdasarkan keputusan model, suhu distribusi optimal dalam bekas tertutup dilihat apabila sumber panas adalah kurang daripada sumber sejuk. Dengan pengurangan jarak antara sumber panas dan sejuk, kadar pertukaran haba meningkat. Kadar pertukaran haba maksima telah diperoleh melalui kajian nisbah aspek sumber pemanasan. Kadar pertukaran haba bertambah dengan bertambahnya nombor Rayleigh (Ra=109-1011), pada posisi tetap sumber sejuk dan panas pada dinding bekas.

Simulation of the flow around propeller is a complex fluid flow problem, especially when the propeller is close to free surface. In this study, the effect of different depths on the performance and efficiency of a B-Wageningen series close to surface of water have been numerically investigated. For this purpose the ANSYS-FLUENT commercial software has been used to solve the viscous, incompressible and two phase flow field. The rotation of the propeller has been implemented using the rotating reference frame model for steady flow and the sliding mesh for unsteady flow. For turbulent flow modeling and free surface simulation, the k-ω SST model and the volume of fluid method have been used, respectively. For validation of numerical results due to lack of access to experimental results of propeller close to surface, numerical solution in open water condition has been performed and performance coefficients have been calculated. The results of the numerical solution show that the propeller coefficient decreases at different depths with increasing forward ratios.

The electricity consumption in residential/office buildings corresponded to 45% of the total annual electricity demand in hot-arid climates. This accounted for 27.2 TWh of electricity consumption with 14.2 MWh/capita/year in Kuwait. In this research, four offices in an educational building were equipped with a meteorological data logging system using temperature, humidity, and illuminance sensors. All four offices had double-glazed windows. Moreover, two offices were equipped with two types of commercially available window films. Two million data were stored in iCloud using Wi-Fi and an Internet of Things (IoT) system for the 3 months of June, July, and August 2019. Here, histograms and the kernel density estimation (KDE) of temperature/humidity were analyzed and compared for the two offices with/without 3M Neutral 20 window films. Two floors of the same building consisting of 31 offices were also modeled and simulated to study energy saving and CO2 footprint reduction using various window films. The results of simulations for the month of July 2019 using SOL 101 and SOL 102 window films, respectively, showed that about 250 kg and 255 kg of production of CO2 could be reduced and energy saving counted for 416 and 422 kWh. Measurements from offices with 3M Neutral 20% and 3M Neutral 70% window films for the month of July 2019 indicated that the carbon footprint could be reduced by about 82 kg and 0.43 kg and energy saving counted for 147.11 and 0.71 kWh, respectively. It was observed that an annual energy saving and CO2 footprint reduction of 2.76% could be achieved using window films in a hot-arid climate.
