The Surface engineering of nanoparticles has contributed to the development of nanoscience and nanotechnology by designing of new material depends on their surface modifier with series of functional properties and applications. The dispersed nanoparticles can change or modify the interfacial properties in liquid-liquid system in aqueous phase if their surface is modified by ionic surfactant. The interfacial energy in nanoparticles-brine system, the ions tends to modify the transport phenomena in pore channels and improve the recovery. The use of the suspension of the particles at nanoscales can offer some advantages of induced sedimentation stability by surface force easily counter balance the force of gravity. This happened due to their nanosize, nanostructure, high volume to surface ratio and strong rock fluid interaction. It also influences the emulsion stability and alters the surface characteristics of surfactant and polymer within the rock in porous medium. Some of the problems associated with conventional EOR processes have been solved by nanoscience applications due to their potential response to reduce the interfacial tension at low to ultra-low level, wettability reversal and improvement in rheology of formation fluids. The large specific surface area, high reactivity, toughness and other properties of Nanoparticles can immensely improve the oil mobility compare to conventional EOR. This paper updates the latest review, experimental evidences and re-interpretation of past research data and applications in respect of silica and titanium dioxide nanoparticles in different environment within surfactant(s), polymer(s), polymer-surfactant EOR processes. The nanotechnology therefore is an effective and alternate solution to brush up the traditional EOR approach with state of art technology which can revolutionize the total oil and gas industry and can contributes significantly to enhance the economics of oil field industry.

Abstract Delta-like Ligand 3 (DLL3) targeting therapies are promising in small cell lung cancer (SCLC) treatment. However, DLL3 expression in SCLC and other neuroendocrine neoplasms (NEN) is heterogeneous and not well characterized. We describe the landscape of DLL3 at the mRNA and protein levels across SCLC, large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC), and non-small cell lung cancer. Additionally, we explore its expression in extra-pulmonary NEN (EP-NEN) using a standardized DLL3 IHC assay. DLL3 expression is enriched in SCLC, LCNEC along with combined histology lung cancers. Moreover, we find a wide range of DLL3 expression in high-grade EP-NEN. We describe heterogenous DLL3 expression not only in SCLC but also in different NEN types. This comprehensive characterization of DLL3 can help guide future clinical trial design targeting DLL3 in NEN including LCNEC and EP-NEN that are lacking standard of care treatment options.

Abstract Patient-reported outcome measures for quality of life (QoL) like the Oswestry-Disability-Index (ODI) are useful for a quick, comprehensive and comparable evaluation of spondylodiscitis treatment. While it is known that even after successful surgical treatment, the QoL of spondylodiscitis patients remains below that of the general population, risk factors for a poor outcome have not been described so far. We did a retrospective post-hoc analysis of 130 surgically treated spondylodiscitis patients from 2008 to 2022. Biographical, clinical und QoL data were prospectively collected before (T0) and one year (T1) after surgery. The primary outcome was QoL at T1. Introduction: Nasolabial cyst is a rare non-odontogenic soft tissue cyst of the nasal alar region with an occurrence of 0.7% cases out of all maxillofacial cysts. Clinically, it mostly presents as painless swelling in the nasal region. Diagnosis is made based on history and clinical examination. Aspiration, radiographic examination, and cross-sectional scans assist in ruling out other odontogenic or non-odontogenic pathologies and also help in locating the lesion. Case report: This paper documents case report of nasolabial cyst in a 30-year-old male patient. This article presents clinical diagnosis, investigations, and surgical management of the lesion, along with a review of literature. Conclusion: There are various treatment options for the management of NLC. We used a sublabial surgical approach to excise the lesion, followed by histopathological examination, which further confirmed the diagnosis. Background: Shramahara Mahakasya (SM) is an Ayurvedic polyherbal formulation known for its anti-fatigue and anti-anxiety effects on the human body. However, its mechanism of action remains largely unexplored. In this study, we investigated the intricate mechanisms through which SM polyherbal extract exerts neuroprotective and anxiolytic effects in cultured HT-22 cells and rodent models. Method: In this study, the chemical composition of SM was first identified using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS). The antioxidant potential of SM was evaluated through antioxidant assays such as DPPH, ABTS and FRAP. The neuroprotective activity of SM (200 and 600 μg/mL) was investigated in glutamate (10 mM) assaulted HT-22 cells. The anxiolytic activity of SM (50 and 100 mg/kg) was assessed in a caffeine (50 mg/kg) induced anxiety model of Sprague Dawley rats. The possible underlying mechanisms for the neuroprotective and anxiolytic activities of SM were explored through biochemical assays and brain histology. Results: Our findings suggest that SM has antioxidant and neuroprotective potential, as evidenced by a decrease in ROS accumulation, Ca2+ overload, mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) loss, and apoptosis in HT-22 cells subjected to glutamate-induced oxidative stress. The extract also increased SOD2 levels and decreased cleaved caspase-3 levels across various treatment sets. The anxiolytic activity of SM was demonstrated by improved behavior of the animals in the elevated plus maze test and increased SOD activity in the brain. SM exhibited the most effective improvements in anxiety disorder at a dose of 100 mg/kg body weight in rats. Conclusions: This study is a pioneering investigation depicting the antioxidant, neuroprotective, anti-apoptotic, and anxiolytic potential of SM formulation against glutamate/caffeine-induced oxidative stress and anxiety in both in vitro and in vivo situations. Overall, our study suggests that the regular consumption of SM formulation could effectively prevent anxiety symptoms by reducing oxidative stress in neuronal cells.

Hydrogen is an industrially significant gas and is considered a potential clean fuel. In the time of climate change; when the global impetus is towards reducing the reliance on fossil fuel, there is a need to go for other alternatives to secure the supply of this strategic gas as almost 95 % of Hydrogen is generated from fossil fuels. Geothermal energy is a reliable green energy source that harnesses crust thermal heat to generate power and is independent of physical weather processes. In this study, we outlined the different production techniques of hydrogen and evaluated the utilization of geothermal resources in the generation of green hydrogen. This study evaluated the different electrolyzers and geothermal energy-based green hydrogen production models and we concluded that cogeneration of hydrogen with the geothermal plant is strongly dependent on the temperature of the geothermal fluid, its flow rate, the cycle of the plant, and the ORC working fluid. Green hydrogen production utilizes the waste thermal energy of the plant thus increasing the plant efficiency and plant output diversification adds up to its economy. In this study, we also outlined the feasibility prospects of geothermal-based green hydrogen and concluded that geothermal energy-based green hydrogen can be a promising way to decarbonization.

The Fourth Industrial Revolution has ushered in several changes in the Oil and Gas (O&G) sector—all with a unified goal of improving, optimizing, and digitalizing existing processes and techniques. Digitalization in the O&G sector provides superior solutions for the efficiency of operations. In digitalization, the machines are connected to digital systems such as sensors; they generate accurate insights, respond in real-time and are efficient. Current digital narratives in the O&G sector are limited in space and use bottom-up technologies. However, a top-down strategy that not only overcomes the digital deluge but also assists O&G executives in following a digital revolution might be beneficial to the business. The advantages of prominent technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and big data analytics are the same, yet they are interconnected. While conventional approaches like SCADA and wireless sensor networks (WSN) have served their purpose, the advent of edge computing and IoT heralds a new era of data-driven decision-making and operational efficiency. Digital transformation can deliver increased safety while minimising the environmental impact of the industry. The technologies that are used in the past and the development of such technologies are discussed in detail in this study.

During the life of a well, treatments are carried out to boost productivity by stimulating initially unproduced zones. These treatments include hydraulic fracturing, matrix acidization, and acid fracturing, among others. Hydraulic fracturing treatment is generally applied to deeper reservoirs of oil or natural gas for enhanced recovery. By infusing proppant, water, and chemicals under extreme pressure during the fracturing procedure, fissures in and beneath the reservoir layer can be accessed and expanded. Another stimulating procedure, matrix acidization, involves injecting acid down the drilling hole to permeate the rock fissures at stresses lower than the fracture stress. In addition, carbonate reservoir acid fracturing stimulation is commonly used as an acid treatment technique whereby a pressure greater than the formation disintegration pressure or spontaneous fracture closure pressure is used to compress acid into the reservoir. These treatments allow existing wells to sustain hydrocarbon production without new wells being drilled. Diverters, when employed efficiently, can prevent the need to use a rig to provide momentary physical barriers, thus lowering the cost of the workover. Recent improvements in diversion technology make use of a variety of degradable particles that act as momentary bridges, either at the perforation entries or inside the existing fractures. The aim of this study is to introduce different types of mechanical and chemical diverters used to enhance the productivity of wells. This study explains the concepts of different types of diverters and their applications in several formations, it will also help readers to understand the selection procedures based on the suitability and requirements of diverter use by case studies from around the world.

Abstract Background and Aim Celiac disease (CeD) is mainly reported from the northern and western parts of India. In central India, it is believed to be a disease of children, with limited data among adults diagnosed for the first time after the age of 18 years. Hence, we aimed to describe CeD's clinical and demographic features among adults and children/adolescents in central India. Methods This is a retrospective analysis of a prospectively maintained database of all patients diagnosed for CeD from 2010 to 2019. The disease in adults was confirmed when symptoms developed for the first time after 18 years and had positive anti‐transglutaminase antibodies with villous atrophy on duodenal biopsy. It was compared with pediatric patients with CeD diagnosed during the same time period. Results Of the 170 patients diagnosed with CeD, 118 were adults and 52 were children or adolescents. The mean age of presentation of adult CeD was 37.3 ± 11.93 years, while in the pediatric and adolescent group it was 9.19 ± 5.4 years. Classical presentation with chronic, painless, small‐bowel‐type diarrhea was seen in 44.1% of adults compared to 57.7% in the pediatric age group. Among the adult patients, 55.9% presented with nonclassical symptoms, which included abdominal pain (40.7%) and weight loss (36.4%). The common presenting symptom in children other than diarrhea was weight loss (50%) and abdominal pain (34.6%). Conclusion CeD is common in central India, with an increasing number of patients being diagnosed for the first time after 18 years of age and presenting more often with nonclassical symptoms.

Project-Based Learning (PBL) is positioned as a pedagogical approach to support authentic, discipline-rich STEM curricula. However, much of the research has focused on the effectiveness of researcher-created curricula rather than teacher-created curricula. In this manuscript, we seek to illuminate the ways in which teachers create discipline-rich STEM projects. Drawing on the theory of the curriculum enactment process, we analyzed curricular artifacts from our teaching practices that we created as secondary STEM teachers who designed and enacted project-based learning. From the analysis, we propose a framework grounded in disciplinary standards to support teachers in creating discipline-rich STEM projects by attending to (1) the Elements of PBL; (2) Content Storyline; (3) Practice Pathway.

The aim of this study is to conduct and examine the results of a Magnetotelluric (MT) survey in Unai, Gujarat, India for geothermal prospect identification. At Unai, the data was acquired, processed, and interpreted in the form of 2D and 3D MT surveys. Data were acquired at 56 stations in uniformly spaced profiles along the ENE-WSE direction (geological strike direction) with a station spacing of 2 km. Qualitative and quantitative data understanding has been done for geothermal prospect identification. Deep and shallow 1D and 2D models of electrical resistivity were made, which suggests the presence of a geothermal aquifer. This is corroborated by polar and skew tipper diagrams. The one-dimensional Occam models and two-dimensional conjugate gradient models confirm the presence of a low resistivity anomaly near the surface ranging from the depth of 100–700 m. This suggests the presence of a shallow geothermal zone. Apart from the shallow geothermal prospect, this study also delineates a deep conductive body which may be attributed to a matured geothermal reservoir. For a better understanding of the prospect geoelectrical cross sections are analysed from a depth of 10 m to 15 km. The MT cross-sections show the presence of geological features such as a series of faults. These faults form horst and graben in nature and may act as a good trap for the shallow reservoirs.

With many countries dependent on imported fuels, governments and industries are diversifying energy sources, including geothermal energy. Geothermal energy, derived from the Earth's internal heat, holds significant potential as a renewable energy source. The present work focuses on the geothermal resource estimation of the Uttarakhand region in India. Critical subsurface reservoir parameters for geothermal extraction and estimates of potential resources are reviewed through an analysis of geological formations, temperature gradients, and rock permeability. Various estimation methods, including surface heat flux, volume methods, and probabilistic methods, are discussed, with a particular emphasis on the Monte Carlo method. Assessment of the resource potential of the Uttarakhand geothermal system using available data estimates the resource potential of the Uttarakhand prospect, revealing an energy estimate of 1.26*10^15 J/kg (P50 case). Correspondingly, for the P90 and P10 scenarios, the estimated heat stands at 2.30*10^15 J/kg and 2.6*10^14 J/kg, respectively. However, successful exploitation requires a thorough understanding of subsurface reservoir parameters and careful resource estimation. This comprehensive analysis offers valuable insights for policymakers, researchers, and industry stakeholders interested in harnessing geothermal energy for sustainable development.

Field development is an important part of natural resource utilization and exploration because it involves a systematic evaluation and optimization of a specific area. This study examines the geothermal field development in the Gandhar region of Gujarat, India. Gandhar for the past several decades has been a flourishing field for hydrocarbon extraction. However, as the world is dealing with environmental issues and the need to shift to cleaner and more sustainable energy sources, geothermal energy has emerged as a feasible and ecologically sound option. This study aims to understand the potential of regions in and around Gandhar as a prospective geothermal field of the west coast continental margin of India. Three primary disciplines namely geological, geochemical, and geophysical surveys are employed on the surface to assess the potential of Gandhar's geothermal resources. Geological assessments provide information about underlying geological formations, which might help to locate possible geothermal resources. The Deccan basement is a prominent source of magmatic heat, with a thermal gradient ranging from 1.29 to 1.87 W/K. This enhances Gandhar's geothermal potential by heating the underlying water in conjunction with radionuclides found in the Earth's core. The temperatures range from 60 to 80 °C according to Giggenbach triangle method. Gandhar's geothermal potential is further highlighted by the fact that its water is bicarbonate-rich, which connects it to possible subterranean aquifers. These results are verified by geophysical studies. Prospective geothermal reserves and four way closures can be found by as anomalies. Gravity survey reveal a doubly plunging antiform, with gravity high value of 5.4 and 5.3 mGa l respectively, which is corroborated by magnetic peaks of 58 and 56.2 nT Areas with higher conductivity are identified by resistivity studies, which also indicate possible fluid paths and geothermal reservoirs. The paper outlines a conceptual field development plan for the identified prospect. The basic infrastructure and the cost associated with it for field development is worked out. The cost of production/MWe of energy generation is also highlighted.

Intussusception rarely occurs among adult patients; however, gastroduodenal intussusception is the most infrequent form of intussusception in adults. Almost all these patients present with abdominal pain and vomiting with or without associated gastrointestinal bleed. But none of the patients reported in the literature have presented with gastrointestinal bleed alone. We report a case of gastroduodenal intussusception who presented with melena alone without abdominal pain and vomiting.

The hydrocarbon industry is considering a range of digital technologies to improve productivity, efficiency, and safety of their operations while minimizing capital and operating costs, health and environmental risks, and variability in oil and gas project life cycles. Due to the emergence of industry 4.0 the improvement in performance, efficiency, and cost reduction, the hydrocarbon industry is gradually shifting towards solutions that are data-oriented. Understanding such complex systems involves the analysis of data from various sources at the same time. Digital Twin (DT) modelling is the foundation for the next generation of real-time production monitoring and optimization systems. It is a solution that boosts productivity by combining information, simulation, and visualization throughout the entire value chain of an operational firm, from subsurface equipment to central production plants. Oil and gas companies can majorly benefit from Hydrocarbon Exploration with the right use of such advanced technologies. This study focuses on the advancements in technology in the context of DT and how it has been used by the hydrocarbon industry. The study discusses about the emergence of the DT concept, various types, 5D representation, and tools for DT. Further, the study tries to implement fields of DT in hydrocarbon industry especially in the domains of exploration, drilling, and production. Challenges associated with DT strategy like accessibility, confidentiality integration, and maintenance are also discussed.

Abstract Background The lactic acid bacteria (LAB), from diverse sources, are of great importance as probiotics, and several authors from around the globe have reported LAB, isolated from various fermented foods, as potential antimicrobial agents. The current study explored the antibacterial activity and probiotic property of idli batter isolates of LAB, for the first time from Malda (West Bengal, India). Results The LAB procured from fresh and fermented idli batter samples had antibacterial activity against pathogenic as well as food-borne bacteria with zone diameter of inhibition of 16, 18 and 23 mm with concentrations 25, 50 and 75 μl/well, respectively, as determined by agar-well diffusion method. The identification of isolated LAB was executed through biochemical tests, 16S rRNA gene sequencing and phylogenetic analysis. The LAB isolates from fresh idli batter: LMEM1001 and LMEM1002, showed maximum (96.81% and 95.20%, respectively) similarities with Lactiplantibacillus pentosus and Lactiplantibacillus plantarum, respectively, whereas the fermented idli batter isolates, LMEM1006 and LMEM1008, showed maximum (96.11% and 98.40%, respectively) similarities with Lactiplantibacillus plantarum and Limosilactobacillus fermentum, respectively. Safety profiling of isolated LAB was executed using antibiogram, DNase and gelatinase tests. Conclusions The idli batter-derived lactobacilli have been demonstrated as good probiotics, which displayed excellent antibacterial activity against clinical and food-borne bacteria. Overall, the idli batter isolates of LAB might be useful as probiotics for human consumption and as biotherapeutics in combating bacterial antibiotic resistance.

The fourth industrial revolution introduced the concept of Industry 4.0, which refers to the digitalization of the modern world and the inclusion of digital industry in major industrial sectors. Within this context, we investigated how Industry 4.0 technologies could transform conventional factories into smart factories and contribute to the development of a circular economy with significant economic, environmental, and social advantages. The primary goal of this study was to assess the potential of Industry 4.0 technologies in optimizing energy production from renewable resources. Specifically, we examined how various Industry 4.0 technologies, including Blockchain, the Internet of Things (IoT), and Cloud Computing, contributed to energy generation, transmission, and trade. In addition, we investigated solutions to issues such as intermittent power supply, low efficiency, grid bottleneck, wastage of excess power, and unpredictable energy markets. Furthermore, we discussed two case studies based on circular economies, sustainable development goals, and Industry 4.0-based data analysis platforms. The study concludes by discussing the challenges faced by industries in adapting to the digital revolution and the potential uses of modern-day digital technologies to advance the energy sector and society as a whole.

Background:. Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) has emerged as an adjunct to reduce wound complication rates in many surgical domains. This study investigated the prophylactic use of PICO NPWT in high-risk patients undergoing oncoplastic and reconstructive breast surgery. Methods:. This was a prospective multicenter national audit. The findings were compared against Association of Breast Surgery/British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (ABS/BAPRAS) Oncoplastic Guidelines for best practice. Results:. Data from 267 patients were included from seven centers. All patients had at least one high-risk factor for postoperative wound complications, whereas 78 patients (29.2%) had more than one. Thirty-six patients (13.5%) developed postoperative wound complications. An estimated 16 (6%) developed skin flap necrosis, wound dehiscence occurred in 13 patients (4.9%), and 15 patients (5.6%) developed postoperative wound infection. Eleven patients (4.1%) required further surgery due to wound complications. In total, 158 patients underwent mastectomy with immediate implant reconstruction. Postoperative wound complication rate was comparable in this subgroup (n = 22; 13.9%). Implant loss rate was 3.8%, which was within the 5% target mentioned in the ABS/BAPRAS guidelines. The estimated total cost saving was US $105,600 (£84,613) and US $395.50 (£316.90) per patient. Wound infection rate (5.6%) was much lower than the 25% reported by both iBRA study and National Mastectomy and Breast Reconstruction Audit. Conclusions:. Our study suggests that prophylactic use of NPWT in oncoplastic and reconstructive breast surgery results in low rates of wound-related complications with associated healthcare cost benefits in patients with high-risk factors for wound-related complications. However, a prospective randomized control trial is required.

Background: The reproductive system is heavily dependent on ovarian follicles, which are made up of germ cells (oocytes) and granulosa cells (GCs), including cumulus granulosa cells (CGCs) and mural granulosa cells (MGCs). Understanding their normal and steroid-induced functions is the key to understanding the pathophysiology of endocrinal diseases in women. Objective: This study investigated the differentially expressed proteins by CGCs and MGCs of patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and without subsequent exposure to dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS) and functional differentiation. Design: The present study was observational and experimental study carried out in hospital involving 80 female patients undergoing IVF for infertility. Methods: In this study, we isolated CGCs and MGCs from the follicular fluid of both PCOS and non-PCOS patients undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF). The cells were cultured and treated with DHEAS for 48 hours, and these cells were extracted, digested, and analyzed by tandem mass spectrometry followed by processing of the results using open-source bioinformatics tools. Results: The present investigation discovered 276 and 341 proteins in CGCs and MGCs, respectively. DHEAS reduced the number of proteins expressed by CGCs and MGCs to 34 and 57 from 91 and 94, respectively. Venn results of CGCs revealed 49, 53, 36, and 21 proteins in normal CGCs, PCOS-CGCs, post-DHEAS, and PCOS-CGCs, respectively. Venn analysis of MGCs showed 51 proteins specific to PCOS and 29 shared by normal and PCOS samples after DHEAS therapy. MGCs express the most binding and catalytic proteins, whereas CGCs express transporter-related proteins. A protein pathway study demonstrated considerable differences between normal and PCOS samples, while DHEAS-treated samples of both cell lines showed distinct pathways. String findings identified important network route components such as albumin, actin, apolipoprotein, complement component C3, and heat shock protein. Conclusion: This is the first study to show how DHEAS-induced stress affects the expression of proteins by MGCs and CGCs isolated from normal and PCOS patients. Further studies are recommended to identify PCOS biomarkers from CGCs and MGCs expressed under the influence of DHEAS.

Background: Despite annual rounds of mass drug administration (MDA) being carried out every year since 2004 to break the transmission of lymphatic filariasis, India has not achieved elimination status in many areas of country. This study was conducted to determine the operational issues in the implementation of MDA for elimination of lymphatic filariasis in selected districts of Jharkhand. Methods: Two districts of Jharkhand state were selected for present cross-sectional study. Multi-staged cluster sampling was adopted to select study participants. Data were collected with use of prescribed questionnaire of National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) from the study participants. Data related to socio-demographic details, coverage and compliance of MDA and operational issues were collected. Results: Findings of independent assessment show that percentage of MDA coverage and compliance for Hazaribag district was 96.02% and 88.90%, respectively. On the other hand, percentage of MDA coverage and compliance was found to be only 67.06% and 48.44% in Chatra district. Abstract Background The non-metric dental crown traits (NDCT) can vary within and between the geo-populations. These play a critical role in the ethnicity determination and help in identification of an individual. A commonly used system for scoring these dental traits is “Arizona State University Dental Anthropology System” (ASUDAS). Aim and objectives Our study aims to evaluate the frequency trend of twenty NDCT traits in the India, National Capital Region population using ASUDAS, and check for any significant sexual dimorphism for each trait. Methods The maxillary and mandibular dental casts from 200 patients (100 males+100 females, age 18–30 years) reporting to the dental OPD of a Government dental college were evaluated. Twenty dental crown traits were scored as per ASUDAS protocol in each dental cast by three investigators independently. NDCTs were tabulated and the chi-square test was performed for calculation of the P value. Results The results showed that the trait cusp number (83%) and lingual cusp variation (79%) were the two most frequent NDCTs and Y groove pattern (13%) and premolar accessory cusp-4 (12.5%) were the two least frequent traits observed. Shoveling of the upper lateral incisor (P=0.007), tuberculum dentale (P=0.049), mesial ridge (lingual) (P=0.034), and hypocone absence (P=0.001) were found to show statistically significant sexual dimorphism (P < 0.05). Although grade-wise expression of shoveling in upper lateral had statistically significant sexual dimorphism and the frequency of higher expression grades was found more in females, overall dichotomy of expression was not significant. Similarly, although an expression of grade-wise tuberculum dentale, mesial ridge (lingual) and hypocone absence had statistically significant sexual dimorphism, an overall dichotomy of expression was not significant. Conclusion The current study shows certain NDCTs like cusp number and lingual cusp variation have a significant association with the NCR population. Sexual dimorphism was not significant; hence, future studies should be planned on a large sample with sex pooled data for each precise location and ethnicity in all the regions of India. This can be further correlated with different facial forms and dental occlusal patterns, for correlation with abnormalities in jaws and teeth.

Following China and the United States, India is the third highest CO2 emitter in the world. With its fast rising population and an industry primarily reliant on coal and oil, the country's emissions will continue to rise unless appropriate measures are taken. In India generally the carbon sequestration is done by storing CO2 in sedimentary basins where it gets capped by the impermeable cap rocks. The study aims to unfold the other techniques of carbon sequestration in subsurface formations, except for narrating the different types of carbon capture and sequestration techniques along with its storage in different types of environments. For instance, abiotic and biotic environments for CO2 sequestration. It further talks about carbon injections of oceanic, geological, and terrestrial types, to name just a few. Types of carbon emission sources are discussed too. In this paper three different approaches are described for carbon mitigation, namely CarbFix, CO2 Plume technology and Carbon Trading. A prefeasibility study was done in order to implement the three techniques in Dholera geothermal region in Gujarat, India. In literature review, it can be seen how the three techniques can help in permanent mitigation of captured carbon through carbonate mineralization, power generation and industrial applications. For any project government and public participation is important. In this regard the study gives a brief understanding about the steps to be taken by government and the public to promote such projects for carbon mitigation. Besides, the steps to be taken in such projects for health and risk assessment were talked about in literature review too.

Geothermal water can have a wide range of direct applications, including drinking, domestic use, irrigation and industrial use. This study analyses geothermal water from Dholera, Diu, Gandhar, Kutch, Porbandar, Tulsishyam, and Unai regions located in Gujarat, India, to determine the hydrochemistry for establishing the water's suitability for drinking and irrigation purposes. From each region, three different water samples were collected. For drinking purpose, total eleven water quality parameters such as pH, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids, calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, chloride, sulphate, carbonate and bicarbonate were evaluated. Piper and Durov plots were used to understand the ionic composition and evolution of water. Whereas for irrigation, the parameters such as total dissolved solids, sodium absorption ration, electrical conductivity, and potential salinity were used for water quality check. Wilcox Plot was plotted to understand the sodium and salinity hazard of water. Water quality index and irrigation water quality index were used to assess the water quality for making the analytical procedure easy. The findings indicate that the water samples from the Dholera and Diu areas had extremely high values for both the water quality index and total dissolved solids content. Water in these places may be appropriate for making salt. All the other samples show adequacy for utilization in irrigation purpose.

Objective: Earlier, we and others have reported that alcohol exposure in adolescent rat impaired performance of a spatial memory task in the Morris water maze. The goal of the present study was to investigate the effects of acute adolescent alcohol treatment on the hippocampus-dependent (contextual fear conditioning) and hippocampus-independent (cued fear) memories. The study also looked at the structural changes in anterior CA1 hippocampal neurons in adolescent alcohol-treated rats.Methods: Adolescent female rats were administered with a single dose of alcohol (1.0, 1.5, or 2.0 g/kg) or vehicle either before training (pre-training) or after training (pre-testing). Experimental and control rats were trained in the fear conditioning paradigm, and 24 h later tested for both contextual fear conditioning as well as cued fear memory. Separate groups of rats were treated with either alcohol (2 g/kg) or vehicle and sacrificed 24 h later. Their brains were harvested and processed for rapid Golgi staining. Randomly selected CA1 pyramidal neurons were analyzed for dendritic branching and dendritic spine density.Results: Pre-training alcohol dose-dependently attenuated acquisition of hippocampus-dependent contextual fear conditioning but had no effect on the acquisition of amygdala-associated cued fear. When administered following training (pre-testing), alcohol did not alter either contextual conditioning or cued fear memory. Golgi stained CA1 pyramidal neurons in alcohol treated female rats had reduced basilar tree branching and less complex dendritic arborization.Conclusion: Alcohol specifically impaired hippocampal learning in adolescent rats but not amygdala-associated cued fear memory. Compared to vehicle-treated rats, CA1 hippocampal pyramidal neurons in alcohol-treated rats had less complex dendritic morphology. Together, these data suggest that adolescent alcohol exposure produces changes in the neuronal organization of the hippocampus, and these changes may be related to impairments in hippocampus-dependent memory formation.

Neboviruses (NeVs) from the Caliciviridae family have been linked to enteric diseases in bovines and have been detected worldwide. As viruses rely entirely on the cellular machinery of the host for replication, their ability to thrive in a specific host is greatly impacted by the specific codon usage preferences. Here, we systematically analyzed the codon usage bias in NeVs to explore the genetic and evolutionary patterns. Relative Synonymous Codon Usage and Effective Number of Codon analyses indicated a marginally lower codon usage bias in NeVs, predominantly influenced by the nucleotide compositional constraints. Nonetheless, NeVs showed a higher codon usage bias for codons containing G/C at the third codon position. The neutrality plot analysis revealed natural selection as the primary factor that shaped the codon usage bias in both the VP1 (82%) and VP2 (57%) genes of NeVs. Furthermore, the NeVs showed a highly comparable codon usage pattern to bovines, as reflected through Codon Adaptation Index and Relative Codon Deoptimization Index analyses. Notably, yak NeVs showed considerably different nucleotide compositional constraints and mutational pressure compared to bovine NeVs, which appear to be predominantly host-driven. This study sheds light on the genetic mechanism driving NeVs’ adaptability, evolution, and fitness to their host species.

Xylella fastidiosa (Xf) is a global bacterial threat for a diversity of plants, including olive trees. However, current understanding of host responses upon Xf-infection is limited to allow early disease prediction, diagnosis, and sustainable strategies for breeding on plant tolerance. Recently, we identified a major complex trait for early de novo programming, named CoV-MAC-TED, by comparing early transcriptome data during plant cell survival with SARS-CoV-2-infected human cells. This trait linked ROS/RNS balancing during first hours of stress perception with increased aerobic fermentation connected to alpha-tubulin-based cell restructuration and control of cell cycle progression. Furthermore, our group had advanced concepts and strategies for breeding on plant holobionts. Here, we studied tolerance against Xf-infection by applying a CoV-MAC-TED-related gene set to (1) progress proof-of-principles, (2) highlight the importance of individual host responses for knowledge gain, (3) benefit sustainable production of Xf-threatened olive, (4) stimulate new thinking on principle roles of secondary metabolite synthesis and microbiota for system equilibration and, (5) advance functional marker development for resilience prediction including tolerance to Xf-infections. We performed hypothesis-driven complex analyses in an open access transcriptome of primary target xylem tissues of naturally Xf-infected olive trees of the Xf-tolerant cv. Leccino and the Xf-susceptible cv. Ogliarola. The results indicated that cyanide-mediated equilibration of oxygen-dependent respiration and carbon-stress alleviation by the help of increased glycolysis-driven aerobic fermentation paths and phenolic metabolism associate to tolerance against Xf. Furthermore, enhanced alternative oxidase (AOX) transcript levels through transcription Gleichschaltung linked to quinic acid synthesis appeared as promising trait for functional marker development. Moreover, the results support the idea that fungal endophytes strengthen Xf-susceptible genotypes, which lack efficient AOX functionality. Overall, this proof-of-principles approach supports the idea that efficient regulation of the multi-functional AOX gene family can assist selection on multiple-resilience, which integrates Xf-tolerance, and stimulates future validation across diverse systems.

Introduction: Acute Pancreatitis in systemic lupus Erythematous is rare but has high mortality. Incidence varies from 1-5% and reported mortality is 3-37.04% with mortality being higher in juvenile SLE. Objective: Study of Clinical and serological profile of SLE patients presenting with acute pancreatitis. Method: Retrospective data of SLE patients visiting our institution was collected. Diagnosis was considered if patients had clinical + biochemical and radiological evidence of pancreatitis. Patients with diagnosis of gallstone, history of alcohol intake, serum Triglycerides>500 mg/dl, serum calcium>10.5 mg/dl and taking Azathioprine at the time of diagnosis were excluded. Results: 9 patients fulfilled inclusion and exclusion criteria. 7 had severe and 2 had moderately severe acute pancreatitis. Female: Male ratio was 8:1, Median age was 25(15-50) years, Median disease duration 12 months (3-48), 4(44.45%) presented within 1 year of disease onset. Mean SELENA-SLEDAI at the time of presentation was 26(19-41). 4(44.45%) were on corticosteroids at the time of presentation. Other active domains at the time of diagnosis were Nephritis in 7(77.78%), NPLE in 3(33.34%), Myositis in 4(44.45%), Autoimmune haemolytic anaemia in 2 (22.22%), Macrophage activation syndrome in 4 (44.45%) enteritis in 1 (11.11%) Myocarditis in 2 (22.22%) and Mucocutaneous in 9 (100%) patients. All patients had elevated Serum Amylase and Lipase level with Median serum Amylase being 545 Units/Litre (normal[Formula: see text]176) and median serum Lipase being 511 ([Formula: see text]160) Units/litre. 6(66.67%) had hypocalcemia and 5 (55.56%) had hypertriglyceridemia. Raised dsDNA was seen in 9(100%, median 277 IU/ml) and hypocomplementemia was seen in 7(77.78%, Median C3 value 49 mg/dL)). None of the patients had associated antiphospholipid syndrome but persistent antiphospholipid antibodies were present in 5(55.56%)-4 had lupus anticoagulant and 1 had Anticardiolipin antibody. 6(66.67%) patients had microbiologically confirmed infection the time of diagnosis of acute pancreatitis (4 bacterial and 1 fungal) among which 3 had lower respiratory tract infection, 1 had urinary tract infection, 1 had pseudomembranous colitis and 1 had peri-pancreatic abscess. 7 patients received only corticosteroids, and 2 patients received IVIG with corticosteroids. 3 out of 9 patients (33.34%) expired due to multi-organ failure. Out of 6 surviving patients all received IV cyclophosphamide (NIH protocol) and are doing fine. Conclusion: Acute pancreatitis in SLE has high mortality probably due to associated high clinical and serological disease activity and high incidence of concomitant infection. Extensive investigation for underlying infection (bacterial, viral and fungal) should be done in SLE patients presenting with acute pancreatitis for comprehensive management.

Among 664,956 hospitalized COVID-19 patients during March 2020–July 2021 in the United States, select mental health conditions (i.e., anxiety, depression, bipolar, schizophrenia) were associated with increased risk for same-hospital readmission and longer length of stay. Anxiety was also associated with increased risk for intensive care unit admission, invasive mechanical ventilation, and death.

The novel, the nation and the family, arising in the age of colonization, are structures deeply imbricated in each other, providing the imaginaries that sustain each other. The contemporary emergence of world literature therefore requires a model different from the family. This essay argues that the contemporary South Asian novel centers new modes of affiliation and kinship that are enabled by global institutions—the multinational finance company and the university—in order to provide an alternative to the site of the family, the imagined basis for the nation’s community. By looking at three novels written by authors of Pakistani, Indian and Bangladeshi origins respectively—The Reluctant Fundamentalist (2007), The Lives of Others (2014), and In the Light of What We Know (2014)—I indicate that rather than a unified ‘global imaginary’ that replaces a previous national one, these characters find themselves imbricated in conflicting contracts of affiliation. It is these contradictory communities that the contemporary South Asian Anglophone novel provides as a model of imagining the world through various acts of affiliation.

Geothermal energy plays a very important role in the energy basket of the world. However, understanding the geothermal hotspots and exploiting the same from deep reservoirs, by using advanced drilling technologies, is a key challenge. This study focuses on reservoirs at a depth greater than 3 km and temperatures more than 150°C. These resources are qualified as Enhanced Geothermal System (EGS). Artificially induced technologies are employed to enhance the reservoir permeability and fluid saturation. The present study concentrates on EGS resources, their types, technologies employed to extract energy and their applications in improving power generation. Studies on fracture stimulation using hydraulic fracturing and hydro shearing are also evaluated. The associated micro-seismic events and control measures for the same are discussed in this study. Various simulators for reservoir characterization and description are also analyzed and presented. Controlled fluid injection and super critical CO2 as heat transmission fluid are described for the benefit of the readers. The advantages of using CO2 over water and its role in reducing the carbon footprint are brought out in this paper for further studies.

Abstract Background MEN1 mutations can inactivate or disrupt menin function and are leading to multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1, a rare heritable tumor syndrome. Case presentation We report on a MEN1 family with a novel heterozygous germline mutation, c.674delG; p.Gly225Aspfs*56 in exon 4 of the MEN1 gene. Diagnosis and clinical phenotyping of MEN1 was established by laboratory tests, ultrasound, biopsy, MRI imaging and endosonography. The clinical course of the disease was followed in the index patient and her family members for eight years. The mutation was associated with distinct clinical phenotypes in the index patient and three family members harboring p.Gly225Aspfs*56. Family members affected showed primary hyperparathyroidism but variable patterns of associated endocrine tumors, adrenal cortical adenomas, prolactinoma, multifocal pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors, insulinoma and nonsecretory neuroendocrine tumors of the pancreas. The mutation c.674delG; p.Gly225Aspfs*56 leads to a frameshift from codon 225 with early truncation of the menin protein. In silico analysis predicts loss of multiple protein-menin interactions in p.Gly225Aspfs*56, potentially rendering menin insufficient to control cell division and replication. However, no aggressive neuroendocrine tumors were observed in the follow-up of this family. Conclusions We report a novel heterozygous MEN1 frameshift mutation, potentially causing (at least partial) inactivation of menin tumor suppression potential but lacking a genotype–phenotype correlation. Our study highlights the importance of personalized care with appropriate testing and counseling in MEN1 families.

Nanoparticles serve various purposes in the hydrocarbon industry which are utilized to improve the volume of oil and gas production. Nanomaterials are used in petroleum applications as nanoparticles, nanosensors, nanocomposites, coated nanoparticles, nanofluids etc. Thus, the application of nanotechnology in the enhanced oil recovery (EOR) method helps to extract the trapped oil present beneath the surface. Some nano ultra-fine particles are cost-effective and eco-friendly. The injected fluid interacts with the rock/oil system to create a favourable environment for oil recovery. This study focuses on a review of the different types of nanoparticles and nanomaterials used in petroleum applications. This paper aims to study the classification and characterization of nanoparticles. This also includes the physiochemical and mechanical properties of nanomaterials. The study discusses the applications of nanoparticles in chemical, miscible, thermal and microbial floodings. It mainly focuses on various mechanisms involved by adding nanoparticles such as wettability alteration, IFT reduction, rheology improvement, mobility control etc. This research also addresses new green nanomaterials and nanocomposites, which includes injecting specialized green chemicals (surfactants, alcohols, and polymers) that successfully displace oil. The IFT between the displacing fluid and the oil is reduced due to phase-behaviour properties.

City gas distribution (CGD) sector is influenced by several factors like policy, infrastructure, health, safety etc. In order to understand this sector, an exploratory factor analysis is conducted. The Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) survey meticulously simplifies interconnected steps and examines the possible causal factor structure of a series of measured variables without hitting a predetermined result model. In this paper, the factor analysis is performed in three broad categories namely: managerial level, technical level and site workers to understand the most influencing factor of the sector. 60 questionnaires were prepared to get feedback on parameters affecting CGD sector. The survey is performed by various means, like google form, email, phone calls, appointments with employees and personal meetings. It has been observed from the survey that the nine factors influences this sector and requires certain modifications for the development. Out of these nine factors, five were selected for the analysis which are infrastructure factor, policy factor, gas consumption factor, total energy demand factor and economy factor. The factor analysis has been performed in five major steps, namely factor analysis applicability, selection of factors, loading of factors, significance test of factors and factor loading matrix analysis. The results obtained from these exploratory factor analysis shows that variables like infrastructure, total energy demand and economy affects the CGD market most than the policy and gas consumption.

Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (TMP-SMX), also referred to as co-trimazole, is a common antibiotic used to treat a wide range of infections ranging from simple skin and soft tissue infections to opportunistic infections such as Pneumocystis jirovecii. Generally, this medication is well-tolerated, but severe adverse reactions, such as myelosuppression and hepatitis, can occur, albeit rarely. In this case report, we describe a patient who presented to the hospital with symptoms of rash, elevated liver enzymes, thrombocytopenia, and acute kidney injury 2 weeks after completing a course of TMP-SMX for a skin infection. We highlight the difficulties in diagnosing adverse events associated with this drug due to the variability in its presentation and the unpredictable onset of symptoms. By excluding common differential diagnoses including thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) and glucose-6-phosphate- dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency, we concluded that the patient was suffering from TMP-SMX-induced multi-organ dysfunction and treated him supportively. Through this case report, we aim to elucidate the importance of early recognition and treatment of the adverse effects of TMP-SMX.

Background and Objectives: Wide local excision is a common procedure in the treatment of breast cancer. Wire-guided localisation (WGL) has been the gold standard for many years; however, several issues have been identified with this technique, and therefore, wire-free techniques have been developed. This scoping review synthesises the available literature comparing wire-guided localisation with the wire-free techniques used in breast-conserving cancer surgery. Materials and Methods: Multiple databases including Pubmed and MEDLINE were used to search articles between 1 January 2000 and 31 December 2022. Terms included “breast neoplasms”, “margins of excision”, and “reoperation”. In total, 34/256 papers were selected for review. Comparisons were made between positive margins and re-excision rates of WGL with wire-free techniques including SAVI SCOUT, Magseed, ROLL, and RSL. Pooled p-values were calculated using chi-square testing to determine statistical significance. Results: Pooled analysis demonstrated statistically significant reductions in positive margins and re-excision rates when SAVI SCOUT, RSL, and ROLL were compared with WGL. When SAVI SCOUT was compared to WGL, there were fewer re-excisions {(8.6% vs. 18.8%; p = 0.0001) and positive margins (10.6% vs. 15.0%; p = 0.0105)}, respectively. This was also the case in the ROLL and RSL groups. When compared to WGL; lower re-excision rates and positive margins were noted {(12.6% vs. 20.8%; p = 0.0007), (17.0% vs. 22.9%; p = 0.0268)} for ROLL and for RSL, respectively {(6.8% vs. 14.9%),(12.36% vs. 21.4%) (p = 0.0001)}. Magseed localisation demonstrated lower rates of re-excision than WGL (13.44% vs. 15.42%; p = 0.0534), but the results were not statistically significant. Conclusions: SAVI SCOUT, Magseed, ROLL, and RSL techniques were reviewed. Pooled analysis indicates wire-free techniques, specifically SAVI SCOUT, ROLL, and RSL, provide statistically significant reductions in re-excision rates and positive margin rates compared to WGL. However, additional studies and systematic analysis are required to ascertain superiority between techniques.

The present study reports the detection and molecular characterisation of rotavirus C (RVC) in sloth bears (Melursus ursinus) rescued from urban areas in India. Based on an RVC VP6 gene-targeted diagnostic RT-PCR assay, 48.3% (42/87) of sloth bears tested positive for RVC infection. The VP6, VP7, and NSP4 genes of three sloth bear RVC isolates (UP-SB19, 21, and 37) were further analysed. The VP6 genes of RVC UP-SB21 and 37 isolates were only 37% identical. The sequence identity, TM-score from structure alignment, and selection pressure (dN/dS) of VP6 UP-SB37 with pig and human RVCs isolates were (99.67%, 0.97, and 1.718) and (99.01%, 0.93, and 0.0340), respectively. However, VP6 UP-SB21 has an identity, TM-score, and dN/dS of (84.38%, 1.0, and 0.0648) and (99.63%, 1.0, and 3.7696) with human and pig RVC isolates, respectively. The VP7 genes from UP-SB19 and 37 RVC isolates were 79.98% identical and shared identity, TM-score, and dN/dS of 88.4%, 0.76, and 5.3210, along with 77.98%, 0.77, and 4.7483 with pig and human RVC isolates, respectively. The NSP4 gene of UP-SB37 RVC isolates has an identity, TM-score, and dN/dS of 98.95%, 0.76, and 0.2907, along with 83.12%, 0.34, and 0.2133 with pig and human RVC isolates, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis of the nucleotide sequences of the sloth bear RVC isolates assigned the isolate UP-SB37 to genotype G12, I2 for RVC structural genes VP7 and VP6, and E1 for NSP4 genes, respectively, while isolates UP-SB19 and UP-SB21 were classified as genotype G13 and GI7 based on the structural gene VP7, respectively. The study suggests that the RVCs circulating in the Indian sloth bear population are highly divergent and might have originated from pigs or humans, and further investigation focusing on the whole genome sequencing of the sloth bear RVC isolate may shed light on the virus origin and evolution.

Rotaviruses are the foremost cause of acute gastroenteritis. Outbreaks of rotavirus infection can lead to significant economic losses in livestock and poultry industry. Group A and D rotavirus are the predominant enteric viruses groups in birds. Limited prevalence studies are available to date in India. Poultry samples consisting of 20 fecal samples and 80 intestinal content samples were screened by VP6 gene based diagnostic PCR for AvRVA and AvRVD. All samples were negative for group A rotavirus. Five fecal samples and 22 intestinal samples were positive for AvRVD-VP6 gene giving an amplicon of 185 bp giving a prevalence of 27%. Positive samples screened for VP4, VP7, NSP4 and NSP5 genes of AvRVD were negative for VP4, VP7 and NSP4 but six samples were positive for NSP5 gene giving an amplicon of 652 bp size. Cloning and sequencing showed 99.4 to 100% sequence similarity among all six isolates at nucleotide level. The percent nucleotide similarity with chicken RVD isolates was in the range 78.2-85.1%. All isolates showed highest similarity of 85% with chicken isolate from South Korea followed by Germany (81.5%) and Australia (78.2%). The phylogenetic analysis exhibited all six isolates clustered together in a separate clade with isolates from Australia, Germany and South Korea.

COVID-19 caused by the virus SARS-CoV-2 has gripped essentially all countries in the world, and has infected millions and killed hundreds of thousands of people. Several innovative approaches are in development to restrain the spread of SARS-CoV-2. In particular, BCG, a vaccine against tuberculosis (TB), is being considered as an alternative therapeutic modality. BCG vaccine is known to induce both humoral and adaptive immunities, thereby activating both nonspecific and cross-reactive immune responses in the host, which combined could effectively resist other pathogens including SARS-CoV-2. Notably, some studies have revealed that SARS-CoV-2 infectivity, case positivity, and mortality rate have been higher in countries that have not adopted BCG vaccination than in countries that have done so. This review presents an overview of the concepts underlying BCG vaccination and its nonspecific immuological effects and protection, resulting in ‘trained immunity’ and potential utility for resisting COVID-19.

Background: Azadirachta indica (neem), belongs to the family of Meliaceae plants, is found in the Indian subcontinent. The neem tree is colloquially referred to as the village pharmacy due to its array of biological properties. Every part of the neem tree like its bark, leaves, sap, fruit, seeds, and twigs find a multitude of uses. It is customary to use them for management of skin diseases and various other infections.The anticancer properties of neem have been studied in the past and these include its ability to modulate the tumour environment, increase the cytotoxic ability of host monocytes and suppress the proliferation of tumour cells. The present review was conducted with the objective of scrutinizing and assimilating data about the usefulness Azadirachta indica in oral cancer from all the previously done work. Material and methods: A planned review was conducted of all the studies that investigated the role of Azadirachta indica in oral cancer. Literature search was carried out using PubMed, Scopus and Google scholar databases. In addition to electronic searching, hand searching, cross referencing and various internet engines were also used to collect data. The articles were perused and articles not pertinent to our search were omitted. Results and conclusion: The anticancer properties of neem were evaluated and the active constituents of neem have been demonstrated to unequivocally have preventive and therapeutic potential against oral cancer. Although, greater exploration of the anticancer properties of neem are required in order to effectively integrate it into the routine management of oral cancer.

Boerhavia diffusa is a perennial herb belonging to the Nyctaginaceae family. This plant has been widely used in Indian traditional medicinal system to cure several human ailments. However, traditional use of this plant in the treatment and management of wounds has not been validated by any comprehensive scientific study. The noncommunicable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) ranks among the top five leading causes of death worldwide. It is a preventable chronic disease that has become a major public health concern globally, as well as in India. To improve the pharmacotherapeutic management of COPD and to increase awareness about the prevalence of the disease, the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) has updated recommendations for the disease, based on the current clinical evidence. The present GOLD guideline endorses inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) combined with long-acting β2-agonists (LABA) for a subgroup of patients. The article is an attempt to clearly define patient profiles that stand to benefit from ICS/LABA, LABA/long-acting muscarinic antagonists (LAMA), and ICS/LABA/LAMA combination therapy based on current clinical evidence. The discussion is presented under the following headings: (i) disease burden worldwide, as well as in India; (ii) clinical symptoms and diagnosis of disease; (iii) risk factors leading to the development of disease; (iv) pharmacotherapeutic agents for COPD; (v) current updated recommendations from GOLD guidelines; (vi) subgroup of patients who can benefit from various combinations of therapeutic agents; and (vii) comparative analysis of clinical studies on various GOLD guideline-suggested combination therapies.

This study was initiated to look into the etiologies, prevalence, and outcome of pregnancy-related acute kidney injury (PRAKI) in a tertiary care hospital. Women admitted with PRAKI from January 2015 to December 2016 were included in the study. All patients were investigated and treated and followed up for the next six months.. For statistical analysis, Chi- square test and analysis of variance were performed to analyze the data. Multivariate analysis was applied to compare the risk of nonrecovery of renal function in different etiologies of PRAKI. During the study period, 81 patients were admitted with PRAKI, of whom 68 (84%) received hemodialysis (HD). A total of 449 patients including all cases of AKI underwent HD from January 2015 to June 2016. The incidence of dialysis requiring PRAKI was 68 out of the 449 patients (15%). Sixty-eight (84%) patients required dialysis support while the most common cause was sepsis (49%), with the second being pregnancy-associated atypical hemolytic-uremic syndrome (P-aHUS) (17%) followed by obstetric hemorrhages (16%). There was a significant reduction of first-trimester AKI (8.6%) compared to a previous study published from this institute (19.3%). The maternal mortality (25%) and fetal mortality (23.5%) were high. Nearly 39% of the patients had complete recovery of renal function. This study revealed significant PRAKI burden due to a largely preventable cause, puerperal sepsis. Renal survival was poor in P- aHUS. The gaps in the obstetric care may be identified for the improvement of fetomaternal outcome.
