The digitization of herbarium collections guarantees a preservation and long-term use of scientifically valuable objects, e.g., wide and convenient access to these materials online and exchange between institutions. These are also important elements in the education and popularization of botanical knowledge. No less significant is the practical aspect of these studies due to the danger of these collections’ destruction as a result of Russian aggression—some of them have already been destroyed. The analyzed Margittai collection (1500 specimens) is kept at the Uzhhorod National University Herbarium (UU) and belongs to the historical and regional ones. This material is valuable because of its scientific, historical and cultural significance. By the initiative and thanks to the efforts of Prof. S. Fodor, the studied collection (most of which are doublet specimens) was transferred in 1965 from the Hungarian Natural History Museum (BP), where the main herbarium of the researcher is preserved (40,000 specimens), to the Uzhhorod State University. Due to the fact that the collection has not been studied, in 2021, the authors began a special investigation of this collection and assessment of its current state. The structure of the database has been developed, it is being filled, and the digitization of type materials has begun.

Abstract The analysis of curated genomic, metagenomic and proteomic data is of paramount importance in the fields of biology, medicine, education, and bioinformatics. Although this type of data is usually hosted in raw format on free international repositories, the full access requires lots of computing power and large storage disk space for the domestic user. The purpose of the study is to offer a comprehensive set of microbial genomic and proteomic reference databases in an accessible and easy-to-use form to the scientific community and demonstrate its advantages and usefulness. Also, we present a case study on the applicability of the sketched data, for the determination of overall genomic coherence between two members of the Brucellacea family, which suggests they belong to the same genomospecies that remain as discrete ecotypes. A representative set of genomes, proteomes (from type material), and metagenomes were directly collected from the NCBI Assembly database and Genome Taxonomy Database (GTDB), associated with the major groups of Bacteria, Archaea, Virus, and Fungi. Sketched databases were subsequently created and stored on handy reduced representations by using the MinHash algorithm implemented in Mash software. The obtained dataset contains more than 133 GB of space disk reduced to 883.25 MB and represents 125,110 genomics/proteomic records from eight informative contexts, which have been prefiltered to make them accessible, usable, and user-friendly with limited computational resources. Potential uses of these sketched databases are discussed, including but not limited to microbial species delimitation, estimation of genomic distances and genomic novelties, paired comparisons between proteomes, genomes, and metagenomes; phylogenetic neighbor’s exploration and selection, among others.

Abstract The types of nominal species of Echinodermata in the collection of the Museu de Zoologia, Universidade de São Paulo are catalogued: Holothuroidea (19 species - 16 holotypes, 1 paratype and 2 neotypes) and Ophiuroidea (4 species - 1 neotype and 3 paratypes). Photographs of all the type specimens are given. A brief account of the history of the MZUSP’s echinoderm collections is presented.

Mordellistena algeriensis Ermisch, 1966, so far known from Algeria and Tunisia, is now being reported from Italy for the first time, based on the two specimens collected recently in Sardinia. Details of the new record, differential diagnosis of the species, figures of the diagnostic characters, and habitus images are provided.

The article presents an addition to the catalogue of types of Papilionoidea, kept at the National Museum of Natural History, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Sofia and provides data on three nominal species group taxa of Nymphalidae, described from Greece, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia.

ABSTRACT The identities of the following four New World species of Stegana from Costa Rica, Stegana atrimana Malloch, 1924, Stegana nigrita Malloch, 1924, Stegana schildi Malloch, 1924, and Stegana tempifera Malloch, 1924, are clarified, and their redescriptions are provided. According to the original descriptions, the holotypes of the four species, deposited in the National Museum of Natural History (USNM), were males. However, upon dissection of their terminalia, we realized that all but one (S. tempifera) are females. Therefore, redescriptions of their external morphology (and/or terminalia) are mainly based on male paratypes, except for S. schildi, which is based on a male non-type specimen from Panama bearing Malloch’s handwritten identification label. Photomicrographs of the habitus and terminalia, in addition to china ink drawings of the aedeagi and associated sclerites, are included.

The widely cultivated Chinese Lingzhi is a famous fungus with significant medicinal and economic value, which has commonly been misidentified as Ganoderma lucidum for a long period of time. The scientific binomial of the fungus is always a hotly debated question that revolves around G. lingzhi and G. sichuanense. To interpret the species concept of the taxon, six specific primers for G. sichuanense and one universal primer were designed. Through directed and nested PCRs, we obtained nine ITS sequences from the holotype (HMAS 42798) of G. sichuanense. By genome sequencing, the ITS sequence of the first cultivated Lingzhi (HMAS 25103) was assembled. Based on a phylogenetic study of the genus Ganoderma, the correct name for widely cultivated Ganoderma species in China was confirmed as G. sichuanense, and G. lingzhi should be a later synonym.

Abstract KellogginaWilliston, 1907 is one of the least studied Blephariceridae genera in the world, despite being the most diverse in the Neotropics with 34 species. We provide a catalogue with the 14 nominal species of the genus described by Lane and d’Andretta from the Southeastern Region of Brazil, of which the type-specimens are deposited at the Diptera Collection of the Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo. There are 60 specimens deposited at this museum, including male holotypes of 14 species and females “allotypes” (paratypes) for seven species. We include male diagnoses and photographs of the holotypes of all species.

Indian species of Drassyllus and Nodocion are revised, mostly based on the type material available in the National Zoological Collection, Zoological Survey of India, Kolkata. All the Indian representatives of the former genus are transferred to Cryptodrassus, with a synonymy of Drassyllus jabalpurensis syn. nov. with Cryptodrassus khajuriai comb. nov., while the Indian species of the latter genus are transferred to Setaphis, with a provisional transfer of Nodocion solanensis. All the examined type specimens are imaged and supplementary descriptions are provided.

Abstract This paper provides a catalogue of the type specimens of Rangomaramidae (Diptera: Bibionomorpha) held in the collection of the Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil (MZUSP). Label data and the condition of 26 type-specimens (three holotypes and 23 paratypes) of four Neotropical species are provided.

Giovanni Canestrini (1835–1900) was the pioneer of arachnology in Italy, who published the first catalogue of Italian spiders and a total of 87 papers in the field. His interests covered almost all the Italian arachnid orders, although in the last part of his life he focused on acarology, in which he became a leading world expert. The remains of Canestrini's arachnological collection deposited in the Zoology Museum of Padova University are represented by spiders (about 850 tubes), mites (438 microscope slides, 115 tubes), harvestmen (120), pseudoscorpions (63), scorpions (19) and solifuges (1). The collection is now part of a large revision project aiming at better understanding and clarifying the scientific heritage of Canestrini, including an inventory of the type material from Canestrini and other European arachnologists who contributed to his collection (e.g., T. Thorell). The first results of the collection revision outlining different arachnid orders and highlighting the occurrence of type material are presented here. Brief historical information on Canestrini and his pupils is also provided.

The genus Proceratium Roger comprises rare ants that are irregularly distributed in tropical and temperate regions of the world. Despite this global distribution, these ants are rarely collected, likely due to their cryptobiotic lifestyle. In the New World, the genus comprises 22 known species distributed from Southern Canada to the South of Brazil, and in some Caribbean islands. The taxonomy of the genus Proceratium is here updated for South America. We describe P. amazonicum sp. nov, from Rondônia state and provide distribution data for P. brasiliense, P. convexipes, and P. silaceum. We also present, for the first time, high-resolution images of the P. colombicum type and P. ecuadoriense, and provide a new record of P. micrommatum from Peru, and comment about its morphological variation and distribution. A key for the workers of the P. micrommatum clade is also provided. The species we describe belongs to P. micrommatum clade and represents the second species recorded from Brazil after 60 years, since only P. brasiliense was known previously in the country.

The Herpetology Collection of the Instituto de Biología Animal of Mendoza (IBA-FCA UNCuyo) is one of the most important of Argentina, for the type material deposited there and because includes a large number of specimens from central-western Argentina and Patagonia. The collection is in a process of ordering for it to the scientific community to access the material with ease. This arrangement allows recognizing the deposited type material, most of it corresponding to Argentina's species described by J. M. Cei, who conducted his investigations at this institute between 1955 and 1980. Also developed research in the Institute R. Donoso-Barros, J. A. Scolaro, F. Videla, L. P. Castro, G. Macola and V. Roig, among others. The type material comprises a total of 295 specimens, belonging to 38 species, 32 of them being holotypes and 263 paratypes. The materials designated as Neotypes of Liolaemus anomalus Koslowsky, 1896 and Liolaemus melanops Burmeister, 1868 do not constitute type material since the original types were found. Fourteen types that should have been deposited in the collection were not found, including the holotype of Homonota andicola Cei, 1978.

ABSTRACT Following a recommendation of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature, this paper provides a catalogue of the type specimens of Anisopodidae (Diptera: Bibionomorpha) held in the collection of the Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil (MZUSP). Information on labels and type conditions, on 54 type specimens (including 21 primary types) of 24 Neotropical species are provided.

Abstract The Neotropical species of Curtonotidae are updated and catalogued. A total of 33 species names are listed, including two fossil taxa and one nomem dubium. Valid and invalid names and synonyms are presented, totaling 45 names. Bibliographic references are given to all listed species, including information about name, author, year of publication, page number, type species and type locality. Lectotype and paralectotypes are designated to Curtonotum punctithorax (Fischer, 1933). Curtonotum simplex Schiner, 1868 stat. rev. is recognized as a valid name.

Abstract Following a recommendation of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature, this paper provides a catalogue of the type specimens of Bibionidae (Diptera: Bibionomorpha) held in the collection of the Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil (MZUSP). Label data and the condition of 21 type specimens (two holotypes and 19 paratypes) of two Neotropical species is provided. Photographs of the male terminalia of the holotypes are also presented.

Abstract The catalogue of the Syringogastridae is updated, including now 21 extant species and two fossil records, all belonging to the genus Syringogaster Cresson. References to all known bibliography are given, totaling 27 records. A full list of the type-series and distribution records are also presented.

Based on examination of type specimens a crane fly species Tipula (Vestiplex) hugueniniana Alexander, 1971 is proposed as junior synonym of Tipula (V.) wahlgrenana Alexander, 1968. The new synonymy is based on similarity of male genitalia.

Los ejemplares tipo de Protura (Hexapoda) depositados en el Museo de La Plata (División Entomología) fueron examinados y listados. Para cada taxón, se brinda información actualizada y sus datos de recolección. Dichos ejemplares pertenecen a seis especies descriptas por las especialistas Julia Vidal Sarmiento y Judith Najt, entre 1970 y 1972. El material tipo incluye seis holotipos, dos alotipos y 17 paratipos. Setenta y cuatro especímenes en preparados microscópicos sin determinar son conservados en la colección general.Type specimens of Protura (Hexapoda) housed at the Museo de La Plata (División Entomología) were examined and listed. For each taxon the updated information and collection data are given. The material includes six species described by the specialists Julia Vidal Sarmiento and Judith Najt between 1970 and 1972. The type material consists on six holotypes, two allotypes and 17 paratype specimens. Seventy four undetermined specimen slides are retained in the general collection.

Based on a study of the type material housed in the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle Paris, lectotypes are designated for the following species: 1) described by Jekel in 1855 - Ptychoderes columbianus, P. callosus, P. mixtus, P. antiquus, Hypselotropis batesi, Ectatotropis conicollis, and Tropipygus speciosus; 2) described by Thomson in 1858 - Phloeotragus sparsutus. This contribution provides information on the type material of 36 species (eight genera) of Meloidae housed at the Museo de La Plata collection, collected in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay. The types herein stated mainly correspond to species described by the Coleopterist Pedro Denier (20 spp), from 1930 to 1940, but also by the specialists Fritz Borchmann (6 spp), Federico G. C. Berg (7 spp) and Antonio Martínez (3 spp). We have examined almost 200 specimens regarded as types, but after the comparison of their label information with the original descriptions of the species, only 70 can be considered as true types (they are holotypes, allotypes, paratypes and syntypes). For each species we give the following information: original name; bibliographic references; category of types; sex of the specimens when it is indicated; data on the labels (exact transcription); code number according to the Museo de La Plata rules; and additional information on the type specimens.El presente trabajo provee información acerca del material tipo correspondiente a 36 especies (ocho géneros) de Meloidae, que fueron recolectadas en Argentina, Bolivia, Brasil, Paraguay, Perú y Uruguay, y depositadas en la colección entomológica del Museo de La Plata. Los ejemplares tipo aquí tratados corresponden mayormente a especies descriptas por el especialista Pedro Denier (20 spp) entre 1930 y 1940 y en menor número por los especialistas Fritz Borchmann (6 spp), Federico G. C. Berg (7 spp) y Antonio Martínez (3 spp). Se examinaron más de cien especímenes que supuestamente revestían la condición de tipos, sin embargo, después de comparar la información de sus etiquetas con las descripciones originales, resultó que sólo 70 de ellos fueron reconocidos como verdaderos tipos (holotipos, alotipos, paratipos y sintipos). Para cada especie se provee la siguiente información: nombre original de la especie, referencias bibliográficas, categoría de tipos, sexo de los ejemplares (cuando está indicado), datos mencionados en las etiquetas (trascripción exacta);número de código de acuerdo con las reglas del Museo de La Plata y datos adicionales sobre los ejemplares tipo.

The genus Adelomelon Dall, 1906 comprises a group of South American marine gastropods. We present updated information on the genus Adelomelon, with emphasis on the status and location of type material, including that of junior synonyms. Scaphella arnheimi Rivers, 1891 and Voluta paradoxa Lahille, 1895 are removed from the synonymy of Adelomelon ancilla (Lightfoot, 1758) and Adelomelon barattinii Klappenbach and Ureta, 1966 is included. The subgenus Weaveria Clench and Turner, 1964 is placed in synonymy with Adelomelon s.s. A key to the species of Adelomelon is provided.O gênero Adelomelon Dall, 1906 engloba um grupo de gastrópodes sul-americanos. Apresentamos informações atualizadas sobre o gênero Adelomelon, com ênfase no status e localização do material-tipo, também dos sinônimos juniores. Os táxons Scaphella arnheimi Rivers, 1891 e Voluta paradoxa Lahille, 1895 são removidos da lista sinonímica de Adelomelon ancilla (Lightfoot, 1758) e Adelomelon barattinii Klappenbach and Ureta, 1966 é incluído. Também o subgênero Waveria Clench and Turner, 1954 é colocado na lista sinonímica de Adelomelon s.s. e uma chave para as espécies de Adelomelon é apresentada.

The Chironomidae (Insecta: Diptera) type collection at the Laboratory of Ecology of Aquatic Insects (LEIA - UFSCar) is reviewed. It comprises 103 primary types, as well as 95 paratypes, mostly resulting from research by S. Trivinho-Strixino and G. Strixino. Notes updating the taxonomic status are provided for some species.

RESUMEN. Se examinaron y listaron 490 ejemplares tipo de Vespidae (Hymenoptera) depositados en la Colección de Entomología del Instituto Fundación Miguel Lillo. Ellos pertenecen a 49 especies y tres subespecies de Eumeninae, y un nombre no válido. Éstas fueron descriptas por los siguientes autores: Bequaert, Bohart, Stange, Bohart y Stange, Giordani Soika, Willink, Willink & Roig-Alsina, y Garcete-Barrett. Para cada taxón se brinda la información de las etiquetas, la que se completa con la publicación original y condición de cada ejemplar.ABSTRACT. Adelomelon indigestus von Ihering, 1908 is known to be a synonym of Adelomelon beckii (Broderip, 1836) but the taxonomic status of its type material was not previously clear. The specimens cited in the original description of A. indigestus were located and recognized as syntypes. Under the rule of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature, the type locality is proposed to include Guaratiba (Rio de Janeiro) and São Sebastião (São Paulo) both on the southeastern littoral of Brazil.

The type material of Phasmatodea deposited in Brazilian museums and institutions is listed for the first time. New synonyms are proposed: Phibalosoma paulense Toledo Piza, 1938, Phibalosoma rochai Toledo Piza, 1938, Bacteria tuberculata Toledo Piza, 1938 and Bacteria tuberculata var. argentina Toledo Piza, 1938 are junior synonyms of Cladomorphus phyllinus (Gray, 1835). El material tipo fue descripto por los siguientes autores: Zikán, Bohart, Bequaert, Willink, Willink & Ajmat de Toledo, Snelling, Richards y Silveira & Carpenter. In this paper we listed and examined four type specimens of Ceraphronoidea, 94 of Cynipoidea and 198 of "Proctotrupoidea" (Hymenoptera) housed at the Museo de La Plata, Argentina (División Entomología) not included in previous papers. The 20 type specimens of Eupelmidae and 230 of Trichogrammatidae (Hymenoptera: Chalcidoidea) housed at the Museo de La Plata, Argentina (División Entomología) were examined and listed, providing update information on categories of types, data of collection and hosts. The types belong to six species of Eupelmidae described by De Santis, and 26 of Trichogrammatidae by De Santis (22) and Viggiani (4).Fueron examinados y listados los 20 tipos de Eupelmidae y los 230 de Trichogrammatidae depositados en el Museo de La Plata (División Entomología); para cada taxón se brinda la información actualizada acerca de los materiales tipo, datos de recolección y huéspedes. Estos tipos pertenecen a seis especies de Eupelmidae descriptas por De Santis y 26 de Trichogrammatidae por De Santis (22) y Viggiani (4).

Esta contribución referida al material tipo de Curculionidae (Coleoptera: Curculionoidea) depositado en la colección entomológica del Museo de La Plata, actualiza la información sobre los tipos depositados durante los últimos diez años. Los 111 tipos examinados en este trabajo corresponden a 52 especies asignadas a las siguientes subfamilias: Curculioninae (5 spp.), Cryptorhynchinae (8 spp.), Cyclominae (4 spp.), Entiminae (31 spp.), y Erirhininae (4 spp.). Los autores de las especies son C. Bordón, W. Clark, K. Heller, A. Lanteri, J. Morrone, C. O'Brien, P. Posadas, F. Ocampo, y G. Wibmer. The authors of the species are C. Bordón, W. Clark, K. Heller, A. Lanteri, J. Morrone, C. O'Brien, P. Posadas, F. Ocampo, and G. Wibmer. The information provided is as follows: valid and original names of each species, bibliographic references, category of the types, code-numbers according to the rules of the MLP collection, sex of the specimens when it is determined, data on the labels (exact transcription), and additional information on the conservation of the type specimens.

Type material of Litomosoides hamletti Sandground, 1934 from Glossophaga soricina soricina in Brazil and L. penai Jiménez- Quirós & Arroyo, 1 960 from Carollia perspicillata azteca in Costa Rica, was examined. The morphology of the spicules shows that these species belong to the carinii group. Their synonymy with L. guiterasi Pérez Vigueras, 1934, from Artibeus jamaicensis yucatanicus in Cuba, does not appear justified because they are distinct in several characters (body length, width of female, size and shape of buccal cavity and capsule, shape of right spicule). L. hamletti is a valid species; L. penai is closely related to it and is considered to be a sub-species, L. hamletti penai Jiménez-Quirós & Arroyo, 1960: The material recovered from Glossophaga spp., previously assigned to L guiterasi by several authors, is identified as L. h. hamletti. L. guiterasi appears to be closely related to L chandleri Esslinger, 1973; L. chitwoodi n. sp. (= Litomosoides sp. Chitwood, 1938) seems close to these species; all three are parasites of Artibeus spp.

Fueron examinados y listados los 293 tipos de Aphelinidae y 24 de Signiphoridae depositados en el Museo de La Plata (División Entomología), para cada taxón se brinda la información actualizada acerca de los materiales tipo, datos de recolección y huéspedes. Estos tipos pertenecen a 30 especies y dos subespecies de Aphelinidae descriptas por los siguientes autores: Annecke & Insley (1), Blanchard (2), Compere (4), De Bach & Rosen (1), De Santis (21), y De Santis & Vidal Sarmiento de Regalía (1); y nueve especies de Signiphoridae descriptas por los siguientes autores: De Santis (6) y Kerrich (3).The 293 type specimens of Aphelinidae and 24 Signiphoridae (Chalcidoidea) housed at the Museo de La Plata (División Entomología) were examined and listed, providing update information on categories of types, data of collection and host. The types belong to 30 species and two subspecies of Aphelinidae described by the following authors: Annecke & Insley (1), Blanchard (2), Compere (4), De Bach & Rosen (1), De Santis (21), and De Santis & Vidal Sarmiento de Regalía (1); and nine species of Signiphoridae described by the following authors: De Santis (6) and Kerrich (3).

Trie study of the collection of Sessé and Mociño at MA, allowed the discovery of specimens which may be considered as type material of the plants published both in Flora mexicana, eds. 1 and 2,'va.La Naturaleza, joumal of the Sociedad Mexicana de Historia Natural, and Plantae novae Hispaniae, eds. 1 and 2, published by the Ministerio de Fomento de México between 1887 and 1894.
