This article describes methodological approaches to support the choice of subsoil places for drilling exploratory water wells in the hydrogeological conditions of the Ukrainian Shield area and other hydrogeological structures within which aquifers of commercial value confined to irregularly fractured rocks. The territory of the Ukrainian Shield is characterized by very complex hydrogeological conditions. The filtration heterogeneity of the main aquifer, connected with fractured zones of crystalline rocks, greatly complicates the solution of water supply problems. The proposed method of gradual approximation to the prospective site can significantly improve the efficiency of drilling. This method provides the execution of works in certain order, namely: collection and analysis of fond materials on the area of work, aerial photographs analysis, conducting of field reconnaissance hydrogeological studies, gas survey and hydrometric measurements, geophysical studies and the choice of optimal methods of exploration and wells drilling.
