Exploring the dynamics of land resource distribution within major river basins is pivotal for informing ecological conservation efforts and fostering sustainable development. The Yellow River Basin is a crucial region for human activities and economic development in China. This study meticulously examines the evolution of land use patterns across the seven principal urban agglomerations within the Yellow River Basin from 1990 to 2020. Employing the Multiscale Geographically Weighted Regression (MGWR) model, the research rigorously scrutinizes the multi-scale spatial heterogeneity of cultivated land dynamics within urban agglomerations during the years 2010 and 2020. The results show pronounced disparities in land utilization among urban agglomerations, with upstream areas predominantly characterized by grass and downstream regions dominated by cultivated land. Noteworthy is the significant expansion of construction land, particularly manifesting dynamic shifts over time. Furthermore, the driving mechanisms exhibit discernible scale variations, with evident spatial heterogeneity in their impact on cultivated land changes.

The purpose of this paper is to reveal the mechanism and process of the dynamic evolution of the economy-energy-environment (EEE) system and study the variables that determine the speed of system evolution and development. The innovation is to overcome the defect of single index by constructing a system evaluation index and reveal the regional EEE system’s evolution mechanism based on Haken’s synergetic theory to supplement a systematic perspective’s empirical evidence. It selects 30 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions in China to empirically analyse the evolution mechanism of the EEE system from 2005 to 2019. The empirical results show that economic development is the order parameter of the evolution and development of the EEE system. In the process of system evolution, the economic development subsystem is the decisive factor in EEE system evolution. In terms of the positive feedback mechanism of order parameter combination, the EEE system forms a positive feedback mechanism for increasing economic development in the stage of evolution and development. The negative feedback mechanism of decreasing environmental pollution emissions is formed in the EEE system. The increase in pollutant emissions has a certain inhibitory effect on economic growth. The improvement in the economic development level has no promoting effect on pollutants, and economic development, in turn, reduces environmental pollution.

Tunnelling-induced environmental responses including ground movements and deformation of the environmental structures are the two prominent issues needed to be carefully disposed in urban areas. This paper tries to develop a theoretical framework to evaluate and control the environmental deformation to avoid two disasters including ground collapse and structural failure. According to the mechanical responses of the ground due to tunnelling, the urban ground in China can be roughly divided into three types including composite multilayered ground, highly water-bearing ground, and mixed rock ground. The displacements of ground and environmental structures due to tunnelling in multilayered ground are emphatically discussed in view of its largest proportion distribution. The cumulative and mutational characteristics of the displacements are considered, which can be the main basis for distinguishing the occurrence of two types of disasters. Based on the development of the displacements, the three-stage evolution model of disaster is established. Combined with the existing displacement and degeneration of the ground and structures and the safety factor, the displacement control standards can be eventually determined. The theoretical framework of in-process control is established which is based on the prediction, measurement, and control standards of the displacements. In the framework, the prediction model can be modified in time, and the tunnelling parameters can be adjusted synchronously. The current research is successfully applied in the Qinghuayuan Tunnel Project.
