Introduction. One of the most important characteristics of asphalt concrete that characterizes its properties is the elasticity modulus. The elasticity modulus of asphalt concrete is used in the design of pavement structures to calculate its permissible elastic deflection, under the condition of shear resistance of the working subgrade layer and the layers of non-cohesive materials, as well as bending tensile strength. Problem statement. Today, the calculated value of the elasticity modulus of asphalt concrete is taken in accordance with Handbook No. 2 «Design Characteristics of Asphalt Concrete» [2]. In this Handbook, the calculated value of the elasticity modulus of asphalt concrete is given depending on the bitumen grade, temperature, type of asphalt mixture, and time of load action. Numerical design values of the elasticity modulus of asphalt concrete are provided only for asphalt concrete type B; for other types of asphalt concrete, it is proposed to reduce or increase the design value of the elasticity modulus by the value that depends on the type of asphalt concrete and temperature. Since 2020, a new standard on technical requirements for bitumen has been in force in Ukraine, which brings bitumen grades in line with the European classification [4]. At the same time, in the Handbook No. 2 [2], the calculated value of the elasticity modulus of asphalt concrete is given in accordance with the previous bitumen grades, which necessitates their adjustment.

Abstract

One indicator of the quality of an information system is the speed of data processing. A database's most common data processing operations are adding, displaying, changing, and deleting data. The amount of data stored in the database significantly impacts the performance of data processing and, therefore, the performance of information systems. The update command changes some or all of the data in a table. The update command works by retrieving the data in the table to be changed, entering the new data in a form, and then sending it back to the database. The update command is often combined with a condition specifying which data rows must be changed. This research is an experimental study that compares the use of the update command with a stored procedure to the use of the update command without a stored procedure. The results showed that the average processing time for the update command with the stored procedure was 348.896 milliseconds for the minimum data category, 266.462 milliseconds for the medium data category, and 279.543 milliseconds for the maximum data category. The average processing time for the update command without a stored procedure was 297.132 milliseconds for the minimum data category, 747.670 milliseconds for the medium data category, and 1256.273 milliseconds for the maximum data category. These results suggest that the update command with a stored procedure is more efficient than the one without a stored procedure. This is because the stored procedure can pre-compile the SQL statement, which reduces the time it takes to execute the statement.

Recently, television cameras operating in the near-infrared range have become increasingly widespread. The advantage of shooting in the short wave infrared range is the ability to observe objects in low light and difficult weather conditions. Such cameras can use hybrid sensors that consist of an infrared photocathode and an electron-sensitive matrix based on silicon in a single vacuum volume. The paper investigates the capabilities of one of the latest samples of a similar camera, created at JSC “NRI Electron”. The images of a human, water, ice, snow and other objects in the wavelength range of 0.95–1.7 microns have been analyzed. The images were taken using a television camera based on a hybrid television infrared sensor, which consists of a photocathode and a silicon charge-coupled device in proximity range to each other in a single vacuum volume. Illumination of the objects in the near-infrared range was produced by a continuous spectrum lamp with a maximum of the detected radiation at a wavelength of 1.55 μm. The authors compared the images obtained in the near-infrared range with the ones obtained in the visible region. An explanation is given for the differences between snow images and water and ice images in the near-infrared range. As an example, the difference in light transmission between the surfaces of materials for diving equipment, such as coated and open cell neoprene, is demonstrated. Due to a significant contrast shown in the near-infrared range by images of various objects on the surface of water and ice, it is possible to create an effective system for searching objects on the water. The paper discusses the advantages of the proposed visual search system compared to other systems, including passive systems and the ones operating in the MWIR and LWIR. The research outlined the prospects of using the new camera for building an effective search system for objects and people on water surfaces.

There occurred in the twentieth century the most remarkable episode in the history of human thought. A number of thinkers denied the existence of something we know with certainty to exist: consciousness, conscious experience. Others held back from the Denial, as we may call it, but claimed that it might be true —a claim no less remarkable than the Denial. This paper documents some aspects of this episode, with particular reference to two things. First, the development of two views which are forms of the Denial —philosophical behaviourism, and functionalism considered as a doctrine in the philosophy of mind— from a view that does not in any way involve the Denial: psychological methodological behaviourism. Second, the rise of a way of understanding naturalism —materialist or physicalist naturalism— that wrongly takes naturalism to entail the Denial.

Non-uniform thickness section is one of most effective approaches in reducing automotive part weight. Less weight results in less fuel consumption and therefore good for the environment. Formability is the main issue of non-uniform thickness section, since changes in thickness may cause parts to behave distinctively compared to uniform thickness during the forming process. One of the main concerns is the springback pattern. This study focused on springback behaviour of AA6061 strip with non-uniform thickness through V-bending experiment. The outcome will contribute in the manufacturing of automotive parts with non-unifrom thickness, where defects such as springback can be predicted and minimised. In the experiment, three parameters i.e. thickness ratio, bend radius and alignment were studied and the effects were observed. The result found that thickness was the most influential parameters compared to others. Thickness was reduced through cold deformation, causing the hardness to increase and then resulted in higher springback value. The effect of alignment was almost negligible. Validation made based on the result found is in agreement with prior published works.

Pollutants generation is strongly dependant on the firing temperature and reaction rates of the gaseous reactants in the gas turbine combustion chamber. An experimental study is conducted on a two-shaft T200D micro-gas turbine engine in order to evaluate the impact of injecting ethanol directly into the compressor inlet air on the exhaust emissions. The study is carried out in constant speed and constant load engine tests. Generally, the results showed that when ethanol was added in a concentration of 20% by volume of fuel flow; NOx emission was reduced by the half, while CO and UHC emissions were almost doubled with respect to their levels when burning conventional LPG fuel alone.

Vaccine effectiveness (VE) studies provide real-world evidence to monitor vaccine performance and inform policy. The WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean supported a regional study to assess the VE of COVID-19 vaccines against different clinical outcomes in four countries between June 2021 and August 2023. Health worker cohort studies were conducted in 2707 health workers in Egypt and Pakistan, of whom 171 experienced symptomatic laboratory-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection. Test-negative design case–control studies were conducted in Iran and Jordan in 4017 severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) patients (2347 controls and 1670 cases) during the Omicron variant dominant period. VE estimates were calculated for each study and pooled by study design for several vaccine types (BBIBP-CorV, AZD1222, BNT162b2, and mRNA-1273, among others). Among health workers, VE against symptomatic infection of a complete primary series could only be computed compared to partial vaccination, suggesting a benefit of providing an additional dose of mRNA vaccines (VE: 88.9%, 95%CI: 15.3–98.6%), while results were inconclusive for other vaccine products. Among SARI patients, VE against hospitalization of a complete primary series with any vaccine compared to non-vaccinated was 20.9% (95%CI: 4.5–34.5%). Effectiveness estimates for individual vaccines, booster doses, and secondary outcomes (intensive care unit admission and death) were inconclusive. Future VE studies will need to address challenges in both design and analysis when conducted late during a pandemic and will be able to utilize the strengthened capacities in countries.

How is it possible that if you go into an arts museum, the ceramics you see may be made yesterday and may be a valued and legitimate part of the museum collection, while in open-air museums, a similar object may be produced by a master craftsperson yesterday, yet is not called authentic? Are we blinded by historical-archaeological authenticity? Is the key to documented objects, their stories and their provenance – which gives them their authenticity - not right? Well-structured documentation of stories with objects and people is, per se, an important step towards being regarded as open-air museums. This is an important part of our current EXARC EU Project, www.retold.eu.

Abstract Background In individuals diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS), variations in craniofacial structure have been inconsistently documented, showing differing degrees of alteration between obese and nonobese patients. In addition, sleep disturbance has also been shown to induce disequilibrium in this population of patients. This pilot observational study aimed to assess craniofacial values in obese and nonobese subpopulations of patients with OSAS and their correlation and association with the severity of OSAS. We also assessed whether OSAS patients are characterized by an impaired equilibrium in relation to and associated with the severity of OSAS. Methods We included all consecutive adult patients with OSAS. Through cephalometry, we assessed the upper (UPa-UPp) and lower (LPa-LPp) pharynx diameters, superior anterior facial height (Sor-ANS), anterior facial height (ANS-Me), anterior vertical dimension (Sor-Me), posterior facial height (S-Go) and craniovertebral angle (CVA). Furthermore, we analyzed postural equilibrium through a stabilometric examination. Results Forty consecutive OSAS patients (45% female with a mean age of 56 ± 8.2 years) were included. The subgroup of nonobese patients had a reduced UPa-UPp (p = 0.02). Cephalometric measurements were correlated with the severity of OSAS in nonobese patients, whereas only Sor-ANS was correlated with the severity of OSAS in the obese subpopulation. In the overall population, altered craniofacial values are associated with severe OSAS. Although there are differences in equilibrium between obese and nonobese OSAS patients, the stabilometric measurements were not correlated or associated with OSAS severity. Conclusion Altered craniofacial values and compromised equilibrium in OSAS patients are linked to OSAS severity. Therefore, the management of OSAS should be tailored not only to weight management but also to craniofacial and postural rehabilitation to enhance patient outcomes.

Purpose:. This study examined the leadership development themes that global orthopaedic surgeons in differently resourced countries perceive as essential components and evaluated barriers to attending leadership development programs. Methods:. This multinational, 45-question survey engaged orthopaedic surgeons (one expert per country). The questionnaire collected participants' demographics, perception of effective leadership traits, and valuation of various leadership themes based on importance and interest. Results:. The survey was completed by 110 orthopaedic surgeons worldwide. Respondents most commonly reported holding a leadership position (87%) in hospital settings (62%), clinical settings (47%), and national orthopaedic societies (46%). The greatest proportion of participants reported having never attended a leadership course (42%). Participants regarded “high performing team-building,” “professional ethics,” and “organizational structure and ability to lead” as the most important leadership themes. No significant (P ≤ 0.05) differences were identified among perceived importance or interest in leadership themes between income levels; however, statistically significant differences were identified in the questionnaire; respondents in low- and middle-income countries (LICs/LMICs) demonstrated a stronger interest in attending a leadership course than those in high-income countries (HICs) (98% vs. 79%, P = 0.013), and fewer surgeons in LICs/LMICs had taken personality assessment tests than those in HICs (22% vs. 49%, P = 0.019). The most common barriers to attending leadership courses were lack of opportunities and invitations (57%), difficulty missing work (22%), and cost of course attendance (22%). Conclusions:. These findings can better inform the development of effective curricula and provide a framework for a successful model for the future. Level of Evidence:. V.

BackgroundEndometrial hyperplasia (EH) is a precusor lesion for endometrial cancer (EC), the commonest gynaecological malignancy in high-income countries. EH is a proliferation of glandular tissue, classified as either non-atypical endometrial hyperplasia (NEH) or, if the cytological features are abnormal, atypical endometrial hyperplasia (AEH). The clinical significance of AEH is that patients face both a high risk of having occult EC and a high risk of progression to EC if untreated. Recommendations on the care of women with EH were introduced by United Kingdom-wide guidance (Green-top Guide No. 67, 2016). National adherence to guidance is unknown. We aimed to describe the care of patients with EH; to compare the patterns of care for those with EH with national guidance to identify opportunities for quality improvement; and to compare patterns of care prior to and following the introduction of national guidance to understand its impact.Methods and findingsIn this UK-wide patient-level clinical audit, we included 3,307 women who received a new histological diagnosis of EH through a gynaecology service between 1 January 2012 and 30 June 2020. We described first-line management, management at 2 years, and surgical characteristics prior to and following national guidance for EH using proportions and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) and compared process measures between time periods using multilevel Poisson regression. Of the 3,307 patients, 1,570 had NEH and 1,511 had AEH between 2012 and 2019. An additional 85 patients had NEH and 141 had AEH during 2020. Prior to national guidance, 9% (95% CI [6%, 15%]) received no initial treatment for NEH compared with 3% (95% CI [1%, 5%]) post-guidance; 31% (95% CI [26%, 36%]) and 48% (95% CI [43% 53%]) received an intrauterine progestogen, respectively, in the same periods. The predominant management of women with AEH did not differ, with 68% (95% CI [61%, 74%]) and 67% (95 CI [63%, 71%]) receiving first-line hysterectomy, respectively. By 2 years, follow-up to histological regression without hysterectomy increased from 38% (95% CI [33%, 43%]) to 52% (95% CI [47%, 58%]) for those with NEH (rate ratio (RR) 1.38, 95% CI [1.18, 1.63] p < 0.001). We observed an increase in the use of total laparoscopic hysterectomy among those with AEH (RR 1.26, 95% CI [1.04, 1.52]). In the later period, 37% (95% CI [29%, 44%]) of women initially diagnosed with AEH who underwent a first-line hysterectomy, received an upgraded diagnosis of EC. Study limitations included retrospective data collection from routine clinical documentation and the inability to comprehensively understand the shared decision-making process where care differed from guidance.ConclusionsThe care of patients with EH has changed in accordance with national guidance. More women received first-line medical management of NEH and were followed up to histological regression. The follow-up of those with AEH who do not undergo hysterectomy must be improved, given their very high risk of coexistent cancer and high risk of developing cancer.

The network’s annual conference serves as a forum for research teams from member institutions to disseminate project findings, explore scientific collaborations, and share insights about conducting research in real-world care delivery settings. Abstracts presented at HCSRN 2023 are published in this issue supplement of Journal of Patient-Centered Research and Reviews, the journal of record for HCSRN’s annual conference proceedings.

Clinical or microbiological factors potentially associated with prolonged COVID-19 PCR positivity are still poorly underexplored, but they could be of importance for public-health and clinical reasons. The objective of our analysis is to explore demographic, clinical, and microbiological factors potentially associated with a prolonged positivity to SARS-CoV-2 among 222 hospitalized patients. Prolonged detection positivity for SARS-CoV-2 RNA in swap samples, defined as positivity more than 21 days, was the outcome of interest. The 56 cases with a prolonged positivity to SARS-CoV-2 were matched for age and sex with 156 controls. The cases reported a significantly higher presence of diabetes mellitus, autoimmune diseases, chronic kidney diseases, and acute coronary syndrome. Moreover, the viral load was significantly higher in a period of prolonged positivity compared to a normal period. In the multivariable analysis, the presence of autoimmune diseases and chronic kidney disease were significantly associated with an increased risk of prolonged positivity as well as medium viral load or high viral load, i.e., low Ct value ≤ 30 indicating high viral load. The results of this study confirmed that in a large population of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 manifestations, the prolonged positivity of SARS-CoV-2 detection with nasopharyngeal swab was mainly related to autoimmune diseases, chronic kidney disease, and to baseline viral load.

We report the analysis of four unambiguous planets and one possible planet from the subprime fields (Γ ≤ 1 hr ^−1 ) of the 2017 Korea Microlensing Telescope Network (KMTNet) microlensing survey, to complete the KMTNet AnomalyFinder planetary sample for the 2017 subprime fields. They are KMT-2017-BLG-0849, KMT-2017-BLG-1057, OGLE-2017-BLG-0364, and KMT-2017-BLG-2331 (unambiguous), as well as KMT-2017-BLG-0958 (possible). For the four unambiguous planets, the mean planet–host mass ratios, q , are (1.0, 1.2, 4.6, 13) × 10 ^−4 , the median planetary masses are (6.4, 24, 76, 171) M _⊕ , and the median host masses are (0.19, 0.57, 0.49, 0.40) M _⊙ , respectively, found from a Bayesian analysis. We have completed the Anomaly Finder planetary sample from the first 4 yr of KMTNet data (2016–2019), with 112 unambiguous planets in total, which nearly tripled the microlensing planetary sample. The “sub-Saturn desert” ( $\mathrm{log}q=\left[-3.6,-3.0\right]$ ) found in the 2018 and 2019 KMTNet samples is confirmed by the 2016 and 2017 KMTNet samples.

Following Shin et al. (2023b), which is a part of the “Systematic KMTNet Planetary Anomaly Search” series (i.e., a search for planets in the 2016 KMTNet prime fields), we conduct a systematic search of the 2016 KMTNet subprime fields using a semi-machine-based algorithm to identify hidden anomalous events missed by the conventional by-eye search. We find four new planets and seven planet candidates that were buried in the KMTNet archive. The new planets are OGLE-2016-BLG-1598Lb, OGLE-2016-BLG-1800Lb, MOA-2016-BLG-526Lb, and KMT-2016-BLG-2321Lb, which show typical properties of microlensing planets, i.e., giant planets orbit M-dwarf host stars beyond their snow lines. For the planet candidates, we find planet/binary or 2L1S/1L2S degeneracies, which are an obstacle to firmly claiming planet detections. By combining the results of Shin et al. (2023b) and this work, we find a total of nine hidden planets, which is about half the number of planets discovered by eye in 2016. With this work, we have met the goal of the systematic search series for 2016, which is to build a complete microlensing planet sample. We also show that our systematic searches significantly contribute to completing the planet sample, especially for planet/host mass ratios smaller than 10 ^−3 , which were incomplete in previous by-eye searches of the KMTNet archive.

The gravitational microlensing technique is most sensitive to planets in a Jupiter-like orbit and has detected more than 200 planets. However, only a few wide-orbit ( s > 2) microlensing planets have been discovered, where s is the planet-to-host separation normalized to the angular Einstein ring radius, θ _E . Here, we present the discovery and analysis of a strong candidate wide-orbit microlensing planet in the event OGLE-2017-BLG-0448. The whole light curve exhibits long-term residuals to the static binary-lens single-source model, so we investigate the residuals by adding the microlensing parallax, microlensing xallarap, an additional lens, or an additional source. For the first time, we observe a complex degeneracy between all four effects. The wide-orbit models with s ∼ 2.5 and a planet-to-host mass ratio of q ∼ 10 ^−4 are significantly preferred, but we cannot rule out the close models with s ∼ 0.35 and q ∼ 10 ^−3 . A Bayesian analysis based on a Galactic model indicates that, despite the complicated degeneracy, the surviving wide-orbit models all contain a super-Earth-mass to Neptune-mass planet at a projected planet-host separation of ∼6 au and the surviving close-orbit models all consist of a Jovian-mass planet at ∼1 au. The host star is probably an M or K dwarf. We discuss the implications of this dimension-degeneracy disaster on microlensing light-curve analysis and its potential impact on statistical studies.

We present the analysis of the microlensing event OGLE-2014-BLG-0221, a planetary candidate event discovered in 2014. The photometric light curve is best described by a binary-lens single-source model. Our light-curve modeling finds two degenerate models, with event timescales of t _E ∼ 70 days and ∼110 days. These timescales are relatively long, indicating that the discovered system would possess a substantial mass. The two models are similar in their planetary parameters with a Jupiter mass ratio of q ∼ 10 ^−3 and a separation of s ∼ 1.1. Bayesian inference is used to estimate the physical parameters of the lens, revealing that the shorter timescale model predicts 65% and 25% probabilities of a late-type star and white dwarf host, respectively, while the longer timescale model favors a black hole host with a probability ranging from 60% to 95%, under the assumption that stars and stellar remnants have equal probabilities of hosting companions with planetary mass ratios. If the lens is a remnant, this would be the second planet found by microlensing around a stellar remnant. The current separation between the source and lens stars is 41–139 mas depending on the models. This indicates the event is now ready for high-angular-resolution follow-up observations to rule out either of the models. If precise astrometric measurements are conducted in multiple bands, the centroid shift due to the color difference between the source and lens would be detected in the luminous lens scenario.

We complete the analysis of planetary candidates found by the KMT AnomalyFinder for the 2017 prime fields that cover ∼13 deg ^2 . We report three unambiguous planets: OGLE-2017-BLG-0640, OGLE-2017-BLG-1275, and OGLE-2017-BLG-1237. The first two of these were not previously identified, while the last was not previously published due to technical complications induced by a nearby variable. We further report that a fourth anomalous event, the previously recognized OGLE-2017-BLG-1777, is very likely to be planetary, although its light curve requires unusually complex modeling because the lens and source both have orbiting companions. One of the three unambiguous planets, OGLE-2017-BLG-1275, is the first AnomalyFinder discovery that has a Spitzer microlens parallax measurement, π _E ≃ 0.045 ± 0.015, implying that this planetary system almost certainly lies in the Galactic bulge. In the order listed, the four planetary events have planet-host mass ratios q and normalized projected separations s of $(\mathrm{log}q,s)=(-2.31,0.61)$ , (−2.06, 0.63/1.09), (−2.10, 1.04), and (−2.86, 0.72). Combined with previously published events, the 2017 prime fields contain 11 unambiguous planets with well-measured q and one very likely candidate, of which three are AnomalyFinder discoveries. In addition to these 12, there are three other unambiguous planets with large uncertainties in q .
