Quantitative studies of V2 in Medieval French have produced diverging results with respect to the rate of use of V2 and the informational value of the initial XP. These divergences are hypothesized to relate to the register of investigated texts. The hypothesis is verified by the systematic analysis of unambiguous V2 (with an expressed post-verbal subject) with respect to rates of use and informational value of XPs in three register-differentiated Anglo-Norman prose legal texts from the 1260–1300 period. On rates, unambiguous V2 is three times more frequent in the most formal, legal treatise text than it is in the less formal, court dialogues. On informational value, indications are provided that the XP tends to have a Focus value more often in more formal texts. Register thus impacts the behavior of unambiguous V2 configurations in Medieval French; using data less remote from the primary competence of speakers helps in approaching the effective curve of change.

Aim. To evaluate the impact of a decrease in glomerular filtration rate (GFR) on the prognosis of patients with chronic heart failure (CHF), to analyze real clinical practice regarding the frequency of prescribing pathogenetic therapy for CHF, achieving target dosages depending on the gradation of GFR in patients included in the CHF Register of the Tyumen region. Materials and methods. The analysis included medical data of 4077 patients (1662 men and 2415 women) with NYHA class I–IV CHF who underwent examination and treatment in medical organizations of the Tyumen region for the period from January 2020 to May 2023. Criteria for inclusion in the register: proven heart failure. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) was assessed by GFR calculated using the CKD-EPI formula (ml/min/1.73 m2). The primary end point was defined as death from all causes. Results. GFR60 ml/min/1.73 m2 was recorded in 34.6% of patients, more common in women (40.2 and 26.6%, respectively; p0.001). When dividing patients into phenotypes according to LVEF, no statistically significant differences were found in the distribution of patients according to GFR. In patients with HFrEF and HFpEF GFR45 ml/min/1.73 m2 was associated with an increased risk of meeting the endpoint. Analysis of prescribed pathogenetic therapy showed that in patients with HFrEF, the frequency of prescription of ACE inhibitors, â-blockers and MRA decreased (p=0.023, 006 and 0.01, respectively), and ARNI, on the contrary, increased with a decrease in GFR (p=0.026). In patients with HFpEF, a similar trend towards a decrease in the frequency of prescription of ACEIs and MCBs with a decrease in GFR (p0.001) remained, but it was compensated by an inversely proportional increase in the frequency of prescription of ARBs (p0.001). 100% of the target dosage is achieved in more than 90% of patients taking MRA across the entire LVEF range. While for â-blockers and ARNI/ACE/ARB the percentage of patients receiving the full therapeutic dosage of drugs is significantly lower. When analyzing target dosages of pathogenetic drugs, gradations of achieved doses were distributed evenly throughout the entire range of GFR. Conclusion. GFR60 ml/min/1.73 m2 occurs in every 3 patients with CHF across the entire range of LVEF. A decrease in GFR worsens the prognosis of patients with both HFrEF and HFpEF, increasing in direct proportion with the severity of the stage of CKD. Inclusion of patients in the monitoring program within the framework of the CHF service allows the treatment to be significantly brought closer to optimal drug therapy, at the same time, certain efforts are required to overcome difficulties with titration to target dosages.

Tasting descriptors, which are common terms used to describe a food product, play a significant role in tasting discourse and particularly in tasting notes. Although they have been the subject of a number of studies from different perspectives, none of them describe and classify descriptors from their form, function and combination in tasting notes in English. In this paper, we examine a corpus of tasting notes with the aim of 1. determining the positioning of English descriptors in relation to the keywords designating the tasting process; 2. scoping the depth of description, as indicated by the number of descriptors; 3. identifying if the descriptors are specific to a given aspect of the food product or are generic enough to be used to describe different aspects of it.; and 4. categorizing frequent semantic associative processed among descriptors and keywords. Our results will be a valuable resource for professionals, technical writers and students’ tasters in English.

Background When more patients with congenital heart disease reach adult age, increased incidence of long‐term complications, including ischemic stroke, are expected. The aim of this study was to analyze cumulative incidence of ischemic stroke, associated factors, and case fatality in adult congenital heart disease. Methods and Results The study is based on Swedish national registers on congenital heart disease and stroke. Patients with congenital heart disease were followed between 2001 and 2018 for first‐ever ischemic stroke events (ischemic stroke due to patent foramen ovale excluded). Factors possibly associated with ischemic stroke were analyzed using Cox regression models. Out of 8914 adult patients with congenital heart disease, 108 suffered ischemic stroke over a mean period of 7.6±4.7 years. The mean age at ischemic stroke was 53.8 years, and the cumulative incidence was 0.15% at 1 year, 0.5% at 5 years, and 1.5% at 10 years. Background: The epidemiology of cerebral palsy (CP) is poorly described in Ghana. These data are crucial for evidence-based intervention for children with CP in the country. Objectives: We aimed to describe the epidemiology of CP among children in Ghana. Method: We established the first institution-based register of children with CP in Ghana (Ghana CP Register–GCPR). Children with confirmed CP aged 18 years were registered following a detailed neurodevelopmental assessment. Socio-demographics, risk factors, predominant motor type and topography, gross motor function classification system (GMFCS), associated impairments, education and rehabilitation status were documented. Results: Between October 2018 and February 2020, 455 children were registered (mean [standard deviation {s.d.}] age at assessment: 5.9 [4.1] years). Preterm birth and low birthweight were reported in 52.0% and 21.1% children respectively. Most children (79.6%) had a pre- or perinatally acquired CP and the mean (s.d.) age of CP diagnosis was 22.2 (21.6) months. Overall, 55.9% of children had spastic tri- or quadriplegia, 60.5% had GMFCS level III–V and 70.3% had ≥ 1 associated impairment. However, 20.5% had never received rehabilitation services and 69.6% of school-aged children in the GCPR were not enrolled in schools. Conclusion: The study findings indicate a high burden of severe motor and associated impairment among children with CP in Ghana which highlights the need for tailored interventions to improve health and well-being of children with CP in the country. Contribution: The study highlights the need for interventions to improve functional outcome, health and well-being of children with CP in Ghana.

Abstract Background The real-world tuberculosis (TB) surveillance data was generally incomplete due to underreporting and underdiagnosis. The inventory study aimed to assess and quantify the incompletion of surveillance systems in southwestern China. Methods The inventory study was conducted at randomly selected health facilities (HF) by multi-stage stratified cluster sampling. The participants were included in the period between August of 2020 in province-level and prefecture-level HF, and in the period between June to December of 2020 in other categories of HF respectively. The clinical committee confirmed medical records were matched to the National Notifiable Disease Reporting System (NNDRS) and the Tuberculosis Information Management System (TBIMS) to define the report and register status. The underreporting and under-register rates were evaluated based on the matched data, and factors associated with underreport and under-register were assessed by the 2-level logistic multilevel model (MLM). Results We enrolled 7,749 confirmed TB cases in the analysis. The province representative overall underreport rate to NNDRS was 1.6% (95% confidence interval, 95% CI, 1.3 − 1.9), and the overall under-register rate to TBIMS was 9.6% (95% CI, 8.9–10.3). The various underreport and under-register rates were displayed in different stratifications of background TB disease burden, HF level, HF category, and data source of the medical record in HF among prefectures of the province. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was 0.57 for the underreporting null MLM, indicating the facility-level cluster effect contributes a great share of variation in total variance. In spite of decades of research developing a model of language and context, there is little consensus in systemic functional linguistics (SFL) about how context should be modelled and how language and context are related. In this paper, we review recent work in SFL which focuses on modelling register as a resource – reconceiving field as a resource for construing phenomena, tenor as a resource for negotiating social relations, and mode as a resource for composing texture. This work has a number of implications for SFL’s conception of realisation (as strata of abstraction), instantiation (as a cline of generalisation), and individuation (as a scale of belonging). For realisation it bears critically on the issue of whether or not to adopt a stratified model of context (as register and genre) and the relationship between extrinsic functionality (field, tenor, and mode) and intrinsic functionality (ideational, interpersonal, and textual metafunctions). For instantiation, it bears critically on our modelling of principles for coupling (co-selecting and arranging choices within and across languages and related modalities of communication) – for example mass, presence, and association. And for individuation, it bears critically on the perspectives of allocation (i.e. how access to meanings and their uptake is distributed across communities) and affiliation (i.e. how meanings are used to collaborate and struggle, within and between social groups). Our basic aim in this paper is to suggest a model for improving traction as far as SFL work on language in context is concerned, fully embracing a multimodal perspective on language and related modalities of communication as resources for meaning.

Abstract Artificial intelligence (AI) has garnered considerable interest in the field of language education in recent times; however, limited research has focused on the role of AI in the specific context of register knowledge learning during English language writing. This study aims to address this research gap by examining the impact of ChatGPT, an AI-powered chatbot, on the acquisition of register knowledge across various writing tasks. The research design employed a one-case shot pre-experimental design, with 11 voluntary participants selected through convenience sampling. Preliminary results indicate that students found ChatGPT beneficial for acquiring formal register knowledge but perceived it as unnecessary for informal writing. Additionally, the effectiveness of ChatGPT in teaching neutral register was questioned by the participants. This research contributes to the existing literature by shedding new light on the effects of AI-generated chatbots in register learning during the writing process, offering insights into their potential as learning assistants. Further investigation is warranted to explore the broader implications and applications of AI in language learning contexts.

Background Real-world data on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in palmoplantar pustulosis (PPP) are scarce and few studies have analysed the generic HRQoL.Objectives To assess HRQoL using the generic EQ-5D instrument and the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) instrument in PPP compared to plaque psoriasis.Methods Cross-sectional data from PsoReg, the Swedish National Registry for Systemic Treatment of Psoriasis (2006–2021), were examined. The study included 306 patients with PPP, out of which 22% had concomitant plaque psoriasis (n = 68), and 7041 patients with plaque psoriasis only. EQ-5D and DLQI were compared between patients with PPP and patients with plaque psoriasis, overall and stratified by sex. A subgroup analysis compared outcomes for patients with PPP vs. patients with severe plaque psoriasis (Psoriasis Area and Severity Index ≥10). Purpose: The primary aim of our study was to identify the absolute incidence and implant survival of multiply revised knee arthroplasties based on nationwide register data. The secondary aim was to determine the change in the absolute incidence and implant survival of multiply revised knee arthroplasties Methods: We performed a retrospective observational study of primary knee arthroplasties using several nationwide Danish registers. All primary knee arthroplasties performed in Denmark from 1998 to 2021 were identified. From these primary arthroplasties, revision procedures were identified. Kaplan–Meier plots were used in survival analysis to estimate the likelihood of implant survival. Results: 161,384 primary knee arthroplasties and their revisions performed between 1998 and 2021 were identified; of 13,786 (8.5%) revisions there were 10,638 1st revisions, 2,148 2nd revisions, 624 3rd revisions, 223 4th revisions, and 153 procedures that had been revised more than 4 times. The 10-year revision-free survival of primary arthroplasties was 92.3% (95% confidence interval [CI] 92.2–92.5). First-time revisions had a 10-year revision-free survival of 75.9% (CI 74.9–76.9). The 10-year survival of second- and third-time revisions was 65.1% (CI 62.6–67.6) and 57.8% (CI 53.4–62.5), respectively. The 10-year implant survival probabilities of primary knee arthroplasties were 91.4% in 1998–2009 and 93.3% in 2010–2021 (difference 2.2%). The 10-year implant survival probabilities of 1st revisions were 77% in 1998–2009 and 75% in 2010–2021 (difference –2.4%). Conclusion: We found that 0.3% of all primary knee arthroplasties resulted in 3 or more revisions. The implant survival decreased for each consecutive revision, with almost half of the 3rd revisions being re-revised within 10 years. The 10-survival of the primary implant was higher in 2010–2021, and the 10-year survival of the 1st revision was higher in 1998–2009.

Communicating scientific research to the public is as important as ever. Several studies have investigated the ways that science writers communicate personal feelings and assessments, otherwise known as stance, in their writing, reporting somewhat mixed results. In this study, I examine the grammatical stance marking of science news articles. I compare the ways that writers and the researchers that they quote uniquely contribute to the overall expression of stance in these articles. Results reveal that the researchers’ talk substantially contribute to the overall stance of science news articles compared to their writers, indicated by a greater use of modal verbs, stance verbs and adjectives controlling that complement clauses, and stance adverbials, including a greater use of ‘boosters’. This study suggests that researchers’ talk in science news articles co-participate in the newsworthiness of science and offer an alternative perspective on academic research uncommon in research writing.

Abstract This protocol presents a comprehensive proposal for the establishment of the Saudi Cerebral Palsy Register (SCPR), a crucial project for investigating and addressing the prevalence, etiology, and management of cerebral palsy (CP) in Saudi Arabia. The SCPR will not only provide a robust database for ongoing research and analysis but will also serve as a platform for investigating the causes of CP, implementing preventative strategies, and improving the quality of care and outcomes for people with CP and their families in Saudi Arabia. Detailed case definitions, inclusion/exclusion criteria, and data collection protocols are discussed to ensure the integrity and comparability of the data. The plan also outlines strategic funding, institutional and government endorsement, sustainability considerations, potential challenges and proposed solutions, and expected outcomes and impact. These include creating research and educational opportunities, fostering regional and international collaborations, and significantly contributing to CP prevention strategies. Overcoming anticipated obstacles, such as stigma, institutional policies, and collaborations, and securing both necessary funding and endorsements are highlighted as critical for the success of the SCPR. The project is not only aligned with promote prevention of health risks, a target of Vision 2030 in Saudi Arabia, but is also expected to have a substantial impact on the health and quality of life of people with CP and their families in Saudi Arabia, serving as inspiration for similar efforts worldwide.

Purpose: data analysis of Russia’s first register of neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) — a web-based system for clinical monitoring of nAMD patients designed to collect and accumulate the data on such patients, their demographic, social and clinical characteristics, on the existing practice of treating nAMD, assessing the effectiveness of anti-VEGF therapy and the burden inflicted by the disease. Material and methods. A non-interventional, multicenter prospective study (CRTH258ARU01) was undertaken, which involved primary collection and reuse of data. The study is referred to as “the Russian register of patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration”. The patients’ case histories served as the primary source of information as the data contained therein were entered by the doctors into electronic individual registration cards (eIRC). The eIRC were used remotely for dynamic clinical observations and data analysis. 61 ophthalmologists from 34 Russia’s scientific or medical organizations engaged in diagnosing, follow-up and treatment of nAMD patients contributed to the register. The data for the register were collected from December 20, 2020 to December 5, 2022. The register has data on 2665 patients (3460 eyes). Results. The mean age (± standard deviation) of patients at the time of inclusion in the registry was 73.0 ± 8.8 years; the majority of patients (66.2%) were female. The average yearly number of follow-up visits per patient was 3.4 ± 2.7, while the average yearly number of injections of anti-VEGF drugs per eye was 2.0 ± 1.7. Conclusion. With the creation of the register, the main goals of the study have been achieved. On the other hand, the register showed that a significant share of nAMD patients/eyes evaded medical observation, and that the patients’ adherence to treatment was insufficient, which had a notable negative impact on the results of therapy in real clinical practice

One or more forms of advance directives are regulated in the majority of legal systems. However, people generally do not create advance directives. The main reason for this problem is that people do not have enough information about this legal institution, and it is too difficult or expensive to create one. Furthermore, it is also questionable if someone has an advance directive whether it will be able to achieve the aimed legal effect. Similarly, the enforcement of the advance directives could be problematic, especially if litigation is required to enforce these wills. The situation of advance directives is more or less the same in the majority of legal systems. Our aim is to show that these problems could be solved using the already existing, e.g. in Austria or Hungary, digital health databases and by introducing a non-litigation legal dispute framework.

Background Central register of data on exposure to carcinogenic or mutagenic chemical substances, their mixtures, agents or technological processes (CRCR) conducted by Nofer Institute of Occupational Medicine (NIOM) enables monitoring of such agents occurrence in working environment in Poland. The NIOM conducts CRCR based on the provisions of the Regulation of the Minister of Health of 24 July 2012 on chemical substances, their mixtures, agents or technological processes with carcinogenic or mutagenic effects in the work environment. The work summarizes the information reported to CRCR in 2018–2021. Material and Methods The data were extracted from CRCR, to which it was transferred by sanitary inspections. The data were extracted from CRCR. Data in this register is gathered based on employers’ notifications to sanitary inspection. The study includes the number of reported agents (chemical substances and technological processes), the number of enterprises and the number of persons exposed to particular groups of agents (chemical substances, technological processes, ionizing radiation). Results The number of substances notified to the CRCR increases, from 382 reported substances in 2018 to 444 in 2021. Significant increase in the number of enterprises reporting technological processes (from 981 in 2018 to 5422 in 2021) and the number of exposed persons results from the law amendments extending the list of carcinogenic or mutagenic processes. Conclusions The CRCR is a unique database on the occurrence and exposure to occupational carcinogens and mutagens, in which data from over 20 years has been collected. The increase in the number of reports to the register was mainly influenced by legislative changes regarding carcinogenic or mutagenic agents. Due to amount and complexity of data, they can be used for analysis in projects and programs aimed at raising awareness and reducing risk of occupational exposure to carcinogens and also during legislative works in Poland and in the EU. Register refers to a form of language variation specific to a particular community or group. Different language varieties within a community can convey distinct meanings. This paper aims to identify the forms of registers used by pro players from the Onic e-sports team in the online game Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and to explain their functions. The data found were 18 registers used by pro players to communicate in the team. The form of the register is classified into two: lingual units of word as many as 15 registers and lingual units of phrase consisting of 3 registers. From these registers there are three functions, namely; a) enhancing communication efficiency, b) boosting hype and atmosphere, and c) facilitating communication among players. Studying these registers is significant as it sheds light on the unique linguistic dynamics of gaming communities, contributing to a deeper understanding of language use in digital and collaborative environments.

This research aims to describe the linguistics form, meaning, and functions under the phenomenon of English language variation used by Indonesian photography enthusiasts. The influence of the English register in lexical categories mostly has undergone a shift in meaning. So, the analysis of English register in the photography context is fascinating to be examined. The method of this research is qualitative descriptive with a sociolinguistics approach. The data are restricted to words and phrases taken from the daily posting of the Facebook community group. The procedure of data collection was conducted by observing and noting the English register among photography enthusiasts. The data were analyzed based on the formation process, the contextual meaning, and identifying the functions and sociolinguistics aspects. This research revealed that the use of English as a foreign language in the conversation of Indonesian photography enthusiasts was largely formed in a 'word' that represent an intended meaning without explain it in a long way. Those terms are functioned to tell the information, experiences, facts, techniques in photography. The involvement of English in the photography register was assumed because several terms do not have equivalent sense in Indonesian language, so it better to use them in English. This research has also showed that the intention of using English in photography community as the characteristics to labeling their social identity, also increasing the speaker's social value, particularly in creating feelings of pride and prestige.

BackgroundTreatment seeking for gambling disorder is known to be low and there has been a lack of longitudinal research regarding treatment opportunities. The present study aimed to assess possible changes in treatment uptake after a formal introduction of gambling disorder in social services and health care legislations, by using register data, including patient characteristics with respect to socio-demographics and comorbidities.MethodsNationwide register data were collected for the years 2005–2019, describing diagnoses in specialized out-patient health care and in in-patient hospital care. Numbers and characteristics of patients with gambling disorder were followed longitudinally. Also, a new legislation for treatment by public institutions was introduced in 2018, and data were compared for the years before and after the shift in legislation, both nationally, for each of the three major urban regions, and for the rest of the country. Comparisons were made with respect to concurrent mental health comorbidities, age and gender.ResultsThe number of out-patient gambling disorder diagnoses increased over time, but without any significant step changes around the shift in legislation. Over time, patients were younger, became more likely to have gambling disorder as their primary diagnosis, and less likely to have mental health comorbidities, whereas gender distribution did not change. Among the smaller group of patients diagnosed in in-patient settings, mental health comorbidity increased over time. Despite gradual changes over time, no changes in demographics were seen around the actual shift in legislation, although the psychiatric comorbidity appeared to increase after this change.ConclusionAfter the introduction of gambling disorder in the responsibility of social services and health care settings in Sweden, the number of patients diagnosed with gambling disorder increased only modestly. Likely, further implementation of gambling disorder treatment is required in the health care services. Also, longer longitudinal studies are needed in order to understand to what extent patients not seeking health care treatment are received by municipal social services or remain outside the treatment system.

This research uses the material object of the Friday sermon, namely the translation of the sermon register of the scholar Ash-Shaikh Dr. Abdul Muhsin Al-Qosim. Each language has specific characteristics or is different from other languages. This research aims to find out the register of the Friday sermon of Ash-Sheikh Dr. Abdul Muhsin Al-Qosim at the Nabawi Mosque. The method used in this research is the descriptive qualitative method. Data were collected using listening techniques and data transcription in processing the data; the data was processed using the analysis model, namely Miles & Huberman. The result of this study is the existence of language registers contained in three perspectives: religious terminology, code mix, and language function. These three aspects are register or language variation forms, with details of seven categories in religious terminology, code mix (words and phrases), and five types of language functions.

There are different formal structures which requests can be made with depending on the register used and the degree of courtesy. During the teaching process, these structures are introduced according to their recursiveness and difficulty, and not necessarily due to their courtesy. This can cause mismatches between the perception of requests in L2 and in L1. In this paper we intend to analyze if this is really the case, or if there are no differences in the perception of these structures in L1 and L2.

Preserving cultural heritage through monitoring, registering, and analyzing damage in historical architectural structures presents significant financial and logistical burdens. Developed approaches for monitoring and registering 4D (4-dimensional)-scanned range and raster images of damaged objects were investigated in a case study of historical Baron Palace in Egypt. In the methodology, we first prepared and observed the damaged historical models. The damaged historical models were scanned using a laser scanner at a predetermined date and time. Simultaneously, digital images of the models were captured (by a calibrated digital camera) and stored on a researcher’s tablet device. By observing and comparing the scanned models with the digital images, geometric defects and their extent are identified. Then, the observed data components were detected on the map. Then, damaged statue materials were investigated using system of energy dispersive (SEM; scanning electron microscope, Gemini Zeiss-Ultra 55) and XRF (X-ray fluorescence) spectroscopic analysis to identify the statue’s marble elements, and the results indicate that SEM-EDX and XRF analyses accurately identify major and minor compositions of the damaged statue. Then, the damaged models were registered in two stages. In the registration stages, the corresponding points were determined automatically by detecting the closest points in the clouds and ICP (iterative closest point) algorithm in RiSCAN. The point clouds (of the Palace and damaged statues) gave very detailed resolutions and more realistic images in RiSCAN, but it is a costly program. Finally, the accuracies of the registration tasks were assessed; the standard deviations are within acceptable limits and tend to increase irregularly as the number of polydata observations used in the registration calculations increase.

This paper explores the use of the passive in present-day British English, focusing on its register-specific lexico-grammatical patterns. The interaction of the grammatical structure, lexis, phraseology and register is examined on the basis of two sub-corpora of the British National Corpus 2014 – academic prose and informal conversation. The results have corroborated the findings of previous studies in that the pattern ‘BE / GET V-ed’ is populated by verbal participial forms which create a cline with departicipial adjectives. The communicative needs of registers have been shown to have a decisive impact on the frequency of passive patterns and the specific lexical choices associated with the patterns. In both registers, the ‘BE / GET V-ed’ patterns appear to constitute the core of larger fixed phraseological units, e.g., can’t be bothered to/with, or it should be noted that.

We used data from OA individuals who participated in the Swedish first-line intervention recorded in the Swedish Osteoarthritis Register (SOAR). SOAR includes clinician-reported use of NSAIDs in the three months preceding the intervention. We used the Prescribed Drug Register to retrieve data on NSAID prescriptions dispensed in the same period. We estimated the prevalence of OTC users (individuals with clinicians-reported use of NSAID but no prescription dispensed), prescription users (individuals with clinicians-reported use of NSAID and a prescription dispensed) and non-users (neither of the previous). We calculated sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value of dispensed prescriptions of NSAIDs vs clinician-report.Results: We included 116,162 individuals (mean age [Standard Deviation]: 66 [9.6] years, 79% women, 77% knee OA). Overall, 24.7% (95% Confidence Intervals [CI] 24.5%; 25.0%) used OTC NSAIDs only, 18.2% (18.0%; 18.5%) used prescribed NSAIDs, 6.6% (6– 4%; 6.7%) reported not using NSAIDs while having an NSAID prescription dispensed. Of the 49,913 individuals with clinician-reported use of NSAIDs, 21,190 had a prescription dispensed (sensitivity: 42.5% [95% CI 42.0%, 42.9%]; positive predictive value: 73.5% [73.0%, 74.0%]). Of the 66,249 individuals reporting not using NSAIDs, 58,617 did not have a prescription dispensed (specificity: 88.5% [88.2%, 88.7%]; negative predictive value: 67.1% [66.8%, 67.4%]).Conclusion: Overall, 24.7% of participants in a first-line intervention for OA used OTC NSAIDs only while 18.2% used prescribed NSAIDs. Dispensed prescriptions of NSAIDs have high specificity but low sensitivity and can correctly identify about 70% of both the non-users and users in this population.Keywords: osteoarthritis, NSAID, register, validation

Background: Mastocytosis is a disease characterized by accumulation of aberrant mast cells and mediator-related symptoms and is divided into systemic mastocytosis (SM) and cutaneous mastocytosis (CM). The epidemiology of mastocytosis remains incompletely understood. Objective: To estimate the incidence, prevalence, overall survival (OS) and burden of comorbidities in adult mastocytosis patients identified in Swedish population-based registries. Methods: Individuals (≥ 20 years of age) with a mastocytosis diagnosis in the National Patient Register (NPR) and/or the Swedish Cancer Register (SCR) between 2001 and 2018, were identified. In a matched cohort design, for each case five randomly selected mastocytosis-free comparators matched on age, sex, and county of residence were chosen from the Population Register. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to compare OS between individuals with mastocytosis and comparators. Information on concomitant disease at baseline was assessed by use of the Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI). Results: We identified 2,040 adults with a mastocytosis diagnosis yielding an annual incidence of 1.56 per 100,000 (95% CI 1.29–1.87) and a prevalence of 23.9 per 100,000 (95% CI 22.8–25.0). The comorbidity burden was higher, and the OS lower, in patients with mastocytosis compared to comparators. Interpretation: We found a higher incidence and prevalence of mastocytosis compared to assessments in other settings and confirmed that the prognosis generally is favorable. Of special note was evidence of a higher comorbidity burden in mastocytosis patients compared to the background population. Limitations: Underreporting and inconsistencies in the use of diagnostic codes.

Abstract Background Neuropsychiatric symptoms in major neurocognitive disorders have been strongly associated with suicidality. Methods The objectives were to explore suicide rates in degenerative neurocognitive disorders (DNDs), alcohol-related neurocognitive disorders (ARNDs), and traumatic brain injuries (TBIs). Patients who received these diagnoses between 1998 and 2015 (N = 231,817) were identified from nationwide registers, and their mortality was followed up until December 31, 2018. We calculated incidences of suicides per 100,000 person-years, types of suicides, and suicide rates compared with the general population (standardized mortality ratio [SMR]). Results During the follow-up, 0.3% (95% confidence interval [95% CI]: 0.2–0.5) of patients with DNDs, 1.1% (0.7–1.8) with ARNDs, and 1.0% (0.7–1.3) with TBIs committed suicide. Suicide mortality rate was higher in men (58.9, 51.3, to 67.4 per 100,000) than in women (9.8, 7.5, to 12.5 per 100,000). The highest suicide rate was in ARNDs (98.8, 65.1, to 143.8 per 100,000), followed by TBIs (82.0, 62.4, to 105.8 per 100,000), and DNDs (21.2, 18.3, to 24.5 per 100,000). The SMRs (95% CI) were 3.69 (2.53–5.38), 2.99 (2.31–3.86), and 1.31 (1.13–1.51), respectively, and no sex difference emerged. The most common cause of death was self-inflicted injury by hanging or drowning (12.4, 10.3, to 14.8 per 100,000). Conclusions Suicide rates were higher in all three patient groups than the general population. Suicide risk remained elevated for more than 10 years after diagnosis. The suicide methods were mostly violent.

An Irish translation of the New Testament was published in Dublin in 1602. This publication, and the translation work which underlay it, did not appear in a vacuum: two earlier printed books in Irish had paved the way, viz. John Carswell’s translation of Knox’s Forme of Prayer and Ministrations of the Sacraments, published in Edinburgh in 1567, and Seaán Ó Cearnaigh’s primer of the Irish language and catechism translation, published in Dublin in 1571. This paper seeks to shed light on the process by which an appropriate register was arrived at for Protestant printing in Irish, and in particular for the New Testament, through an examination of some of the linguistic and stylistic features of these texts, with regard both to decisions made by the individual translators and to sociolinguistic factors which may have limited their room to manoeuvre. These factors include contemporary conceptions of and attitudes to different language varieties, the lack of alternative models, and the nature and level of education received by individual translators. This paper builds upon the pioneering research of Ailbhe Ó Corráin (2013) to show that linguistically that portion of the Irish New Testament completed after 1597 has a more colloquial and dialectal quality than that which preceded it. This is tentatively connected with specific changes in the team responsible.

The basic idea behind establishing the register of beneficial owners is to increase the transparency and accessibility of data on beneficial ownership of companies and other legal entities with the aim of ensuring the public availability of data on domestic and foreign natural and legal persons. However, the possibility of the data being accessible to the general public instead of to persons or organizations that can demonstrate a legitimate interest raised the issue of violating the principles of respect for private or family life and the protection of personal data. Consequently, this raises the question of drawing the line between contributing to the common good and fighting against money laundering and terrorist financing, on the one hand, and protecting personal data, with the possibility of their misuse, on the other. A balance as well as a response to the possibility of setting soft limits of legitimate interest that would result in the achievement of all set goals was sought in the practice of the European Court of Justice. One of the legislative solutions regarding the extent of access to data on beneficial owners for the entire public, along with the establishment of different types of registers in order to prevent money laundering and terrorist financing, is described using the example of Croatia.

This study examines the distinctness of registers shared as a part of communication by the street hawkers in Dhaka. The reasons for studying these registers are to investigate their different jargons, why they use them while selling their products, and what they mean through them. It also explores the effectiveness of their registers in their communication. By adopting the qualitative method, the researchers have interviewed 40 street hawkers, recorded their conversations and some distinctive vocabularies for over a month, and found some striking meaningful registers they share in this profession. The results show that they use these specific registers before the customers to make communication comfortable and smooth. They also share these jargons to hide the real meaning from customers, to make fun of them, to discourage their fellow hawkers from promptly selling a product, to get rid of some particular customers, and sometimes even to cheat and provoke them. The findings of the study are discussed carefully to draw the attention of language users, planners, and policymakers. One of the important reasons for choosing the street hawkers was to concentrate on the professional language variation of an underprivileged community in Dhaka.

This study describes the form and meaning of registers in yoga in Kediri and explores the influence on yoga practitioners (yogis). The data sources for this research consisted of informants, including Acarya (instructors) and Yogis, while the data was in the form of lexicons uttered by Yogis and Acarya. Data were collected by observing techniques with advanced techniques; listening, engaging, and talking. The data analysis technique uses the theory of register forms resulting from a combination adapted to the register forms in yoga. This study found that there were 53 registers in yoga exercises consisting of two forms, namely, single and complex. There are 29 singular forms and 24 complex forms. The yoga register also strongly influences Yogis (doers), including spirituality, attitudes, and relationships with others. Also, it overcomes health problems faced daily which focus on meditation activities. Meanwhile, the meaning of register in the choice of speech style is intended by Acharya to inspire enthusiasm and freshness in communicating; besides that, it also marks a communication function that has the uniqueness of being a registered marker that has a specific meaning based on context.

Many musical instruments produce a myriad of sound colors resulting from diverse playing techniques, both traditional and extended. Such techniques include parameters that are often regularly manipulated in music, such as pitch, intensity (dynamics), articulation style, and duration. Despite the likely contribution of such timbral variations to musical experience, within-instrument timbral flexibility and its semantic consequences have not been addressed empirically. Participants rated sounds produced by the oboe and the French horn on 12 combinations of register and dynamics using the 20-dimensional timbre qualia model from Reymore and Huron (2020). Data are modeled with Exploratory Factor Analysis, partial proportional odds regressions, and random forest classifiers. Although trends between ratings and register/dynamics emerged, the results illustrate the complexity of within-instrument timbral variability. Some trends were approximately linear, others demonstrated non-linear patterns, and some timbre qualia dimensions displayed interactions between register and dynamics. While certain trends were shared between the oboe and French horn, such as an increase in sparkling/brilliant ratings with register, others seem to be unique to each instrument, such as the relationship of ratings of woody to register for the oboe or of ratings of muted/veiled to dynamics for the horn. Results demonstrate that within-instrument timbral variability based on dynamic and register is apparent to listeners and that semantic interactions among parameters can be present. The methodology established in this paper can be extended to address within-instrument timbral flexibility with respect to articulation, duration, and other sources of variation for any instrument or group of instruments.

Traditional approaches in timbre research have often equalized sounds according to pitch, loudness, duration in order to study timbral differences across instruments. In a compact case study of the semantic qualities of the oboe and French horn, Reymore (2021) takes a different approach and considers timbral differences within musical instruments, which arise due to the covariation of timbre with the musical parameters of fundamental frequency (pitch) and playing effort (dynamic level). The study constitutes a timely contribution to a growing body of work on the covariation between timbre, pitch, and loudness. After providing a background and summary of important aspects of the target article, I elaborate on results from a recent complementary study that analyzed acoustical signal properties regarding that matter. Finally, I address three important issues in this context that appear to be worthy of future research.

Abstract Background Between 1980 and 2018 Greenland has had one of the highest suicide rates in the world with an average rate of 96 suicides per 100,000 people annually. The aim of this study is to investigate suicide rates in Greenland according to age, birth cohort, period, sex, place of residence and suicide method from 1970 until 2018. Methods Suicide rates were examined using register and census data from 1970–2018 among Greenland Inuit. Rates were calculated by Poisson regression in Stata and by use of Excel. In analyses of the period trends, rates were standardized according to the World Standard Population 2000–2025. Results The suicide rate has been declining since a peak at 120 suicides per 100,000 people annually in the 1980s but remained high at a rate of 81.3 suicides per 100,000 people annually from 2015–2018. Descriptive analyses point to the decrease in male suicides as the primary factor for the overall decreasing rates while the rate among women has been increasing. Simultaneously, the proportion of women who used a violent suicide method increased from 60% in 1970–1979 to 90% in 2010–2018. The highest rates are seen among young people, especially young men aged 20–24 years and youth suicide rates increased with later birth cohorts. When the rates started to increase in the 1980s both the capital Nuuk and East Greenland had the highest rates. Since then, the rate in Nuuk has declined while the rate in East Greenland was three times the national rate from 2015–2018. Conclusions From 1970 to 1989 the suicide rate increased from 28.7 to 120.5 per 100,000 people mirroring a rapid societal transition in the post-colonial period. The rate has slowly declined from the peak in the 1980s but remains at a very high level. Young people in general are at risk, but the steady increase in the rate among women is worrying and there is a need to investigate underlying causes for this development.

Background: Referral of patients from doctor to doctor has been identified as high-risk area as patient valuable information can be lost or not quantified properly during the transit. Improving the quality of the referral process and its documentation is important to facilitate timely access to specialty care. Objective: To conduct referral audit of the public health care system in Bhopal district of Madhya Pradesh. Methodology: Audit (document review) or the secondary data pertaining to the out referrals entered in the referral registers was captured after due permission from the administrators/ in- charges of the health facilities using the format for data extraction for referral given by the WHO Referral Register Standards. Quota sample of 50 referred patient entries was taken from the primary and secondary health facilities (1 district hospital, 1 CHC, 2 PHCs) based on patient load and level of care provided in the hospital was taken from OPDs, IPDs and Emergencies wherever out referral registers were maintained. Results: There was a physical presence of out referral register or records in all the health facilities. Details like reason for referral was mentioned in most of the facilities whereas back referral was not mentioned in most of the facilities. Conclusion: Maintenance of the patient health records in the out- referral registers were not up to the required standards stated by the WHO. There is a need for the uniform implementation of state referral policy to ensure quality control of referral mechanisms and maintain continuum of care for better patient outcomes.

Background: Vitamin K antagonists, warfarin in particular, have been the mainstay of anticoagulation therapy, but their use has declined in many countries since direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) have entered the market. Objective: To examine utilization trends of oral anticoagulants (OACs) in Finland considering the reimbursement of DOACs and changes to national treatment guidelines for the treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF). Methods: Both public, aggregated data on reimbursed OAC dispensations and individual-level data on electronic dispensations during 2014–2022 were applied. Data on electronic dispensations during 2015–2016 were used to study OAC initiations. Data on entitlements to reimbursement for DOACs came from public data. Results: In 2014, there were almost 20,000 DOAC users, rising to 214,000 in 2022. The number of warfarin users declined since 2015 from over 181,000 to around 59,000 users in 2022, DOACs exceeding warfarin in the number of users in 2019. The total DOAC costs were higher than warfarin costs each year. Rivaroxaban was the most widely used DOAC during 2014–2018, and apixaban during 2019–2022. In 2015, there were more warfarin (56.7%) than DOAC (43.3%) initiators, but the result was opposite for 2016 (warfarin 39.4%, DOACs 60.6%). The number of individuals entitled to reimbursement for DOACs has increased steadily, and in 2022, there were over 196,000 individuals entitled to this reimbursement due to AF. Conclusions: The uptake of DOACs in Finland appears to have been gradual and slower than in many other countries. During the 2010s, the treatment guidelines for AF were more cautious in recommending DOACs than the European guidelines. The use of DOACs increased as their reimbursement became less restrictive.

While fictional orality (spoken language in fictional texts) has received some attention in the context of quantitative register studies at the interface of linguistics and literature, only a few attempts have been made so far to apply the quantitative methods of register studies to interior monologues (and other forms of inner speech or thought representation). This article presents a case study of the three main characters of James Joyce’s Ulysses whose thoughts are presented extensively in the novel, i.e., Leopold and Molly Bloom and Stephen Dedalus. Making use of quantitative, corpus-based methods, the thoughts of these characters are compared to fictional direct speech and (literary and non-literary) reference texts. We show that the interior monologues of Ulysses span a range of non-narrative registers with varying degrees of informational density and involvement. The thoughts of one character, Leopold Bloom, differ substantially from that character’s speech. The relative heterogeneity across characters is taken as an indication that interior monologue is used as a means of perspective taking and implicit characterization.

Introduction. The issues pertaining to records keeping and management in 19th-century Russia’s government agencies have been well studied. However, there are no fundamental scientific works covering the phenomena in Kalmykia. The paper analyzes activities by the Astrakhan Kalmyk Affairs Commission for the actual document flow procedures and types of documents to have resulted from the Commission’s work. The review procedure of a petition filed by landlord E. Ts. Kichikov and dealing with the bronze medal awarded to the Russian nobility and merchants in memory of the Patriotic War of 1812 — and the Kalmyk nobility’s relevance to the mentioned category — arouses particular interest. Goals. The article aims to introduce some archival documents contained in Collection И-2 ‘Kalmyk Affairs Commission’, examine the execution procedure for a document identified as ‘register’, and thus trace document review procedures in administrative bodies of prerevolutionary Russia and Kalmykia. Results. The insight into the composition of archival documents (by types) created during activities of the Astrakhan Kalmyk Affairs Commission makes it possible to study the actual records keeping and management procedures in one ethnic periphery of Russia, as well as to consider relevance of the Kalmyk nobility to the Russian one.

Aim. To assess, based on the results of the questionnaire, patients' awareness of the presence, possible causes and health effects of overweight /obesity; to determine patients' self-assessment of their own weight, information about the methods used to treat the disease, adherence to therapy.Material and methods. The survey of patients of the outpatient registry was carried out as part of a face-to-face visit of inclusion in the observational study of EVA using a specially designed questionnaire. Out of 582 patients of the PROFILE registry who came for a visit in the period from 08.04.2019 to 24.03.2020, 295 people with a body mass index (BMI) were included in the study>25 kg/m2.Results. According to the BMI values, the patients of the study cohort were divided into 4 groups: 108 (36.6%) with pre-obesity, 124 (42.1%) with class I obesity, 42 (14.2%) with class II obesity, 21 (7.1%) with class III obesity. Abstract Background Many similarities exist between borderline personality disorder (BPD) and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), more so in women than in men. People with comorbid ADHD and BPD represent a subgroup of BPD patients with distinct symptom expression and, consequently, a different prognosis. We used Swedish national high quality registers to assess whether such comorbidity is related to increased mortality risk. The study focused on women with BPD because they are more likely than men to be clinically diagnosed with BPD and present a higher mortality risk, especially for unnatural causes of death, including suicide. Findings In a cohort of 15 847 women diagnosed with BPD a subsequent clinical diagnosis of ADHD did not influence the overall risk of mortality, including suicide. Conclusions Women with comorbid ADHD and BPD have a similar mortality risk as those only diagnosed with BPD.

This study focuses on the linearization of constituents at the right sentence periphery in German, specifically on non-clausal light-weight constituents (LWCs) in the post-field. Spoken and written productions of German heritage speakers (HSs) with English as their majority language (ML) and of monolingually-raised speakers (MSs) of German are analyzed in different registers. The right sentence periphery is an area comprising a lot of variation and it is therefore intriguing to see how the two speaker groups deal with the options available if faced with the same communicative tasks. The overall goal is to answer the question whether the production of post-field LWCs in German HSs and MSs can provide us with evidence for ongoing internal language change and for the role of language contact with English. The analyses show a similar variational spectrum of LWC types and frequencies across speaker groups but a different distributional variation. The results show effects of register-levelling in the HS group, as they do not differentiate between the formal and informal setting unlike the MS group. Therefore, rather than transfer from the ML, the source of differing distributional variation of LWCs lies in the diverging adherence to register norms due to different exposure conditions across speaker groups.

Heart failure (HF) is a global health problem. Despite advances in the development of effective treatments for patients with heart failure, morbidity and mortality from remain high, and the prognosis is poor. However, there is potential to improve outcomes in HF patients with current disease-modifying therapy. Planning needs and resources, assessing the effectiveness of care for HF patients in clinical practice requires high-quality epidemiological data. Previously performed Russian observational studies of HF were characterized by relatively small sample sizes, inclusion of patients in only one or a few regions, strict selection criteria, single-stage design, or short follow-up. The rationale and design of the all-Russian prospective observational multicenter registry study "PRIORITET-CHF", which included 20000 patients with HF throughout the Russian Federation, is presented. The main aims of the study are to (1) describe baseline clinical and demographic characteristics in outpatients with HF in the Russian Federation and (2) characterize routine therapy and evaluate the compliance of treatment for HF with reduced ejection fraction with current clinical guidelines.

Abstract Background The number of studies with a large cohort of patients that primarily focus on patient-reported outcomes after ACL reconstruction in children and adolescents is limited. The purpose of the present study was to determine whether patient age affects the proportion of patients that achieve a patient-acceptable symptom state (PASS) on the Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS) subscales one, two, five and 10 years after an ACL reconstruction. Methods The patient data in the present study were extracted from the Swedish National Knee Ligament Register (SNKLR). Patients aged between five and 35 years that underwent a primary ACL reconstruction between 1 January 2005 and 31 December 2017 and had completed the KOOS questionnaire at the one-, two-, five- or 10-year follow-up were included. A total of 2,848 patients met the inclusion criteria and were included in the study; 47 paediatric patients (females 5–13, males 5–15 years), 522 adolescents (females 14–19, males 16–19 years) and 2,279 young adults (females 20–35, males 20–35 years). The results from the KOOS were presented as the mean and 95% confidence interval (CI) for the mean. For comparisons between groups, the chi-square test was used for non-ordered categorical variables. For pairwise comparisons between groups, Fisher’s exact test (2-sided) was used for dichotomous variables. All the statistical analyses was set at 5%. Introduction. Management of patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is usually universal, regardless of gender, age, and ethnicity. But often in practice, gender and age influence medical decisions, and patients do not receive proper medical care. Medical care for patients with ACS was analyzed by gender according to the federal register of ACS data. Aim. To analyze the influence of the patient's gender on the course of the disease and on the provision of medical care to patients with ACS who underwent treatment in 20162019. Materials and methods. The data of 95 586 cases was analyzed. Two groups were identified: men (n=59 442, 62.2%) and women (n=36 144, 57.8%). Results. Anamnesis analysis has revealed, that women were often more burdened with concomitant diseases and had a higher risk on the GRACE scale at admission. It was demonstrated that men underwent revascularization on average significantly more often than women (51.9% versus 32.5%, respectively, p0.001). In women, conservative therapy was more. When compared with the appropriate use criteria for coronary revascularization, it was shown that more than 70% of women in whom a conservative treatment strategy was chosen, it was expedient to undergo myocardial revascularization using percutaneous coronary intervention. Conclusion. Gender differences were revealed in the course of the disease, as well as in the choice of treatment by doctors. Women are characterized by a later manifestation of the disease, more often in the form of ST-ACS. The course of the disease in women is associated with a higher comorbidity, atypical symptoms and later call for help. A conservative approach prevails in the choice of ACS treatment tactics in women.

Abstract Background Globally, 700 000 people die every year by suicide. Health care consultation patterns the period before suicide could be one potential way to identify people at risk for suicide. Therefore, this study examines health care patterns up to one year prior to the suicide by age, sex and prior diagnoses and specifically investigates if and how this differs from the general population of Skåne, Sweden. Methods This cohort study includes all individuals, aged 15 and older, that died by suicide in Region Skåne, Sweden from 2004 to 2015 (n = 1653). The individuals were identified through the Cause of death register and then linked to the Skåne healthcare register. Health care data was analyzed as proportions consulting different types of health care the month and year preceding the suicide, we also investigated the impact of age, sex and the occurrence of prior psychiatric and pain diagnoses. Additionally, we compared the proportion of consulting care among the suicide victims and the general population of Skåne. The article considers the license requirement fulfillment which provides that a license applicant or license holder has a minimum list of equipment, in conditions of changes in the list of works and services included in the activities of installation, maintenance and repair of fire safety equipment of buildings and structures. The issue concerning alteration to the register of licenses under these conditions is examined. The peculiarities of implementation of licensing control are briefly considered.

Abstract Background Patients with progressive primary brain tumors commonly develop a spectrum of physical as well as cognitive symptoms. This places a large burden on family members and the condition’s complexity often requires frequent health care contacts. We investigated potential associations between sociodemographic or socioeconomic factors, comorbidity or receipt of specialized palliative care (SPC) and acute healthcare utilization in the end-of-life (EOL) phase. Methods A population-based retrospective study of all adult patients dying with a primary malignant brain tumor as main diagnosis in 2015–2019 in the Stockholm area, the most densely populated region in Sweden (N = 780). Registry data was collected from the Stockholm Region´s central data warehouse (VAL). Outcome variables included emergency room (ER) visits or hospitalizations in the last month of life, or death in acute hospitals. Possible explanatory variables included age, sex, living arrangements (residents in nursing homes versus all others), Charlson Comorbidity Index, socio-economic status (SES) measured by Mosaic groups, and receipt of SPC in the last three months of life. T-tests or Wilcoxon Rank Sum tests were used for comparisons of means of independent groups and Chi-square test for comparison of proportions. Associations were tested by univariable and multivariable logistic regressions calculating odds ratios (OR). Results The proportion of patients receiving SPC increased gradually during the last year of life and was 77% in the last 3 months of life. Large and monumental trees are important elements of the ecosystem and represent valuable ecological, environmental, and historical heritage. Different countries have different strategies to protect such trees; most often, through the creation and reference to catalogues of the most valuable, old, big, or monumental trees on the territory. In Croatia, such an inventory has not yet been implemented. In order to create a database and catalogue of super-trees on the territory of Istria, in 2022, we launched a citizen science action to find out the locations of large, old, and valuable trees in Istria with the help of the public. The result of the action is a geo-referenced census of 64 ʻsuper-treesʼ in Istria in the form of an online Catalogue created in ArcGIS StoryMaps application. We proved that it is possible to efficiently and quickly create a catalogue that will serve to protect monumental trees. This Catalogue is the first step in creating a regional or national register.

Contact is often cited as an explanation for the convergence of areal features and has been proposed as an explanation for the emergence of tonal languages in Mainland Southeast Asia. The current production study probes this hypothesis by exploring the relationship between tonal language usage and the acoustic correlates of the register distinction in Kuy, a Katuic language, as spoken in a quadrilingual (Kuy, Thai, Lao, Khmer) Kuy community in Northeast Thailand. The results demonstrate greater persistence of fundamental frequency (f0) differences over the course of the vowel alongside more tonal language experience for male speakers; however, analysis of individual differences finds that H1*−H2*, a correlate of voice quality, is the primary cue for male speakers with greater tonal language experience. For female speakers, a tradeoff is found between f0 and voice quality cues alongside tonal language experience at both the group and individual levels. These findings provide evidence for a model by which contact may serve to enhance existing, non-primary cues in a phonological contrast by shifting cue distributions, thereby increasing the likelihood that these cues will come to be perceived as prominent and phonologized.
