Introduction. Depression is a persistent mental state of sadness that can affect an individual`s thoughts, behavior, emotion and well-being. The electroencephalogram (EEG) is of great importance both for experimental neurophysiology and for clinical diagnosis. The purpose of our study was to establish if there is a connection between the values of serotonine, histamine and EEG in patients with depression and endocrine pathology based on the collected data. Materials and methods. We included 50 individuals diagnosed with depression from Endocrinology Clinic of Craiova, over a period of 2 years (2018-2020). Serotonine and histamine were measured in blood and urine/24 hours in all the sample. Electroencephalography was performed to this patients. Outcomes. In our study, 27 patients had mild depression, 17 had moderate depression and 6 had a severe disorder. Also, the serotonine values were low (normal value 80-400 μg/L) in patients with depression and endocrine pathology. Conclusion. In patients with EEG abnormalities occure significant changes in the values of serotonine and histamine (increased urinary histamine and decreased serotonine levels).

Traditionally, schizophrenia was considered to be a severe psychiatric disorder, with a chronic course and an unfavorable outcome. Throughout history, there has been incidence of schizophrenia, roughly one percent of the population, consistently, in every culture. It is generally acknowledged that schizophrenia has multifactorial etiology, with multiple susceptibility genes interacting with environmental insults to yield a range of phenotypes in the schizophrenia spectrum. The discovery of antipsychotics in the 1950s revolutionized the treatment of schizophrenia and focused on the positive symptoms. By the 1960s, however, it became evident that the reduction in positive symptoms did not lead to recovery from schizophrenia and did not significantly improve the functional outcome. The advent of the novel antipsychotics during the last 15 years represents a significant improvement over the effectiveness of conventional antipsychotics. These agents are, however, not a magic bullet and bear their own side effects, such as weight gain, diabetes, hyperprolactinemia, and QTc prolongation. Nevertheless, at this point, they seem to be more effective and safer than the conventional antipsychotics. Moreover, advances in the treatment of schizophrenia have been and continue to be urgently needed.

Altas doses de agonista colinérgico muscarínico, pilocarpina, produzem alterações comportamentais, convulsões e estado epiléptico em ratos. O objetivo desse estudo foi verificar as alterações nas concentrações dos neurotransmissores em corpo estriado de ratos em desenvolvimento após estado epiléptico induzido pela pilocarpina. Ratas Wistar foram tratadas com uma única dose de pilocarpina (400mg/Kg; s.c.). Controles receberam salina. A concentração dos neurotransmissores foi determinada através do HPLC, no corpo estriado de ratos que no período de observação de 1 e 24h desencadearam estado epiléptico e não sobreviveram à fase aguda do quadro convulsivo. Foi observada redução nos níveis de dopamina, serotonina, ácido dihidroxifenilacético, ácido 5-hidroxiindolacético, e aumento no ácido 4-hidroxi-3-metoxi-fenilacético. Os resultados mostraram que a ativação do sistema colinérgico pode interagir com os sistemas dopaminérgico e serotonérgico nos mecanismos referentes à fase aguda do processo convulsivo.High doses of the muscarinic cholinergic agonist, pilocarpine, result in behavioural changes, seizures and status epilepticus in rats. The purpose of the present work is to invetigate the striatal neurotransmissors level in young rats after status epilepticus induced by pilocarpine. Wistar rats were treated with a single dose of pilocarpine (400mg/Kg; s.c.). Controls received saline. Young animals were closed observed for behavioural changes during 1 and 24h. In these periods, the animals that developed status epilepticus and didn't survive this acute phase of seizures had the brains removed and striatal neurotransmissors level determined by HPLC. The concentration of dopamine, serotonine, dihydroxyphenylacetic acid, 5-hydroxyindolacetic acid was reduced and an increase in 4-hydroxy-3-methoxy-phenylacetic acid was observed. These results suggest that cholinergic activation can interage with dopaminergic and serotonergic systems in acute phase of the convulsive process in immature striatum.

The role of meconium in the respiratory system was studied in newborns, who died from various causes (250 up to 3000 g of weight). We monitored tracheal rings response to dopamine, serotonin and ethanol in different concentrations (dopamine: 0,05 mg/ml, 0,5 mg/ml, 5 mg/ml; serotonin (5-HT): 10-4, 10-3, 10-2, 10-1 mol/dm3; ethanol: 0,02 ml, 0,5 ml, 1,0 ml; 96%). Tracheal smooth musculature tonus (TSM) was examined in 48 tracheal preparations taken after the newborn exitus due to different reasons. Based on functional researche of isolated preparations of tracheas, it may be concluded that: aspiration of me-conium has not changed the response of TSM to dopamine, serotonin and ethanol (p>0,1) in comparison with the control group, which have died due to different lung inflammatory processes (e.g. pneumonia, bronchopneumonia, atelectasis, cerebral hemorrhage). The results suggest that meconium does not potentiate the constricting action of dopamine, serotonin and ethanol in tracheobronchial system. Meconium causes mild relaxation of the TSM through a mechanism that is not intermediated by the products of cyclooxygenases (prostaglandins, prostacyclins) from the tracheal epithelium or proteins. Also, as it seems, the direct activity of many tested acids in the smooth musculature has no significant impact on increase of the airways tonus in MAS syndrome.

Cyproheptadine hydrochloride is a very high potent histamine and serotonine antagonist. This study was conducted to investigate the role of cyproheptadine on feed intake, body weight gain, feed conversion ratio, serum total protein, cholesterol and glucose. Red blood cells (RBC), Hemoglobin (Hb), Packed Cell Volume (PCV) and differential leukocytic count in blood of chickens were also estimated. A total of 60 one-day-old Fabro chicks were randomly divided into 2 groups. One group was received cyproheptadine at a rate of 10 ug / 100g body weight daily for eight weeks and the second group was used as a control. The results revealed that cyproheptadine could stimulate feed intake and improve body weight gain in chickens. Erythrocyte count, hemoglobin content and PCV where increased significantly in these chickens accompanied by an increase in percentage of lymphocytes with a significant decrease in percentage of heterophiles and H / L ratio. This drug also reduces the total protein, cholesterol and glucose in serum.
