This article examines the integration of skilled Mexican female workers in the Monterrey labor market, and the relationship with the genesis of migratory flows toward the city of Houston. Following this line of investigation, the feminization of Mexican migration toward the US is considered, in part, to be the result of unfavorable conditions affecting qualified women professionals in their country of origin, who find an employment niche in the basic schooling system of Texas. However, the findings obtained in the fieldwork conducted beg the question of whether this type of migration can truly be defined as skilled.

Interdisciplinarity is becoming increasingly important in education. With the rapidly evolving job market, an interdisciplinary education can prepare students for the flexibility and broad knowledge base required to adapt. At the University of Pisa, we recognized the value of an interdisciplinary educational environment during our participation in the European project EINFOSE, where we harmonized the entry requirements for master programs in Information Science. Prior to this project, we had been building study programs in Digital Humanities and Data Science, whose intersection organically nurtured a diverse learning space. Through this lens, we will reflect on the obstacles constituted by disciplinary barriers and stress the importance of a flexible and open 'ecosystem' for education. These conclusions will be supported by data analysis on the careers of our students over the last eight years.

A question that captured our attention many years ago and continues to motivate our work, although the audience for that work has expanded and contracted over the years, is "What about reading?" In this essay we adopt a term used to frame discussion at the 2010 Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC)--remix--to revisit in three ways the role of reading in composition studies: in terms of accepted constructions of disciplinary history (and the status of reader-response theory within that history), students (the erasure of "students" as a category of analysis), and the CCCC Convention program (the disappearance and reappearance of reading as a category of professional inquiry). This paper discusses guidelines that emphasize the relevance of short-circuit- and open-circuit-time constant (SCTC and OCTC, respectively) methods in the analysis and design of electronic amplifiers. It is demonstrated that it is only necessary to grasp a few concepts in order to understand that the two short- and open-circuit cases fall into a single case that can be easily addressed by low-pass and high-pass filters duality. Instead of just teaching the methods as "recipes" for frequency-performance systems analysis, SCTC and OCTC can be efficiently explained in basic analog electronic courses so as to elucidate their underlying principles. The discussion presented here will include two analysis and design examples, used to highlight the benefits gained by the approximated analysis technique, as well as a section that examines the accuracy of the technique. Like other seemingly ordinary materials (cookbooks, street art, scrapbooks, etc.) the subject of our investigation--holy cards or (in Italian) "immaginette"--often function as rich repositories of personal and cultural memory as well as indicators of popular literacy practices. But to relegate them to the category of ephemera, as is customary with materials of this sort, diverts attention from their significant cultural and pedagogical value. In our attempt to foreground the complex nature and function of these artifacts, we have found much of the scholarship on vernacular or material religion and everyday culture particularly helpful. In their attention to what popular culture scholar David Morgan has called "objects that have not mattered in most historical accounts," these areas of study have lent support to our "understanding of the[ir] power and meaning" (xi). Yet, it is literacy studies that has enabled us to cast light on and to articulate their intricate, extraordinary pedagogical workings. At the same time, these humble artifacts have enabled us to critically re-approach and put pressure on some of the most commonplace articulations of literacy. Our goal then is to demonstrate that these seemingly "ordinary objects" are significant cultural and historical signifiers and that as such they can contribute to a fuller understanding of the common literacy practices of vernacular religion. Occupational therapists (n=66) were asked to identify skills, knowledge, and behaviors required for vocational practice, to determine to what extent training is preparing students, and to recommend revisions in curriculum. They agreed about what is required but disagreed about the extent to which students were prepared. (Contains 11 references and an appendix with recommendations.) (JOW)

As the life span of adults with intellectual disabilities increases, so do the concerns related to housing options, family relations and support, and community services. New partnerships are needed for the development of social policy, programs, and services to serve this growing population. (JOW)

Writing teachers can enable students to think critically by teaching composition courses according to two principles: sequencing and revision. The teaching of a basic reading and writing course for college freshmen illustrates how writing, taught from a discovery perspective and in conjunction with selected readings, can develop students' ability to think.
