Analysis of data from 270 families participating in Michigan's "Early On" (Part H of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) program suggests two paths for empowering families: (1) implementation of program components via a family-centered framework or (2) family-centered delivery to build a family support network. Families (n=223) enrolled in Michigan's Cash Subsidy Program for families of children with developmental disabilities were surveyed about their resources, use of services, and helpfulness of social supports. Parents saw their basic resources for daily life as adequate but viewed their time, discretionary money, and child care resources as inadequate for caring for their children. (Author/JDD)

This study of supported employment's effects on wages earned by Michigan adults with disabilities found that wages increased after entering supported employment, mostly because of higher hourly rates but somewhat because of increased hours of employment and that individual placement had the largest effect on wages whereas participation in mobile crews had little effect.
