Abstract

The recently isolated tetrapeptides GE20372 A and B, are shown to inhibit HIV-protease. Microbial alkaline protease inhibitors, which are closely related to the tetrapeptides, show similar activity. Model systems were prepared incorporating the carbonyl link between two amino acid residues, aiming to aid the eventual synthesis of GE 20372 and MAPI.
