Abstract

Standard techniques help isolate a peptide, named skin peptide tyrosine-tyrosine (SPYY), of the pancreatic polypeptide family from the skin of the frog Phyllomedusa bicolor. Sequential analysis helps determine the primary structure of the peptide, which exhibits 94% similarity with the frog Rana ridibunda PYY. A SPYY synthetic replicate inhibits the release of melanotropin from frog neurointermediate lobes in the same way as neuropeptide tyrosine.
