Single-crystalline Cr[Si.sub.2] nanostructures with a unique hexagonal nanoweb morphology are prepared. The studies have shown that surface charges on the sidewalls and the minimization of electrostatic energy has induced the nanoweb formation.

The preparation, structure and the electrical characteristics exhibited by the Au and Ag Schottky contacts on Nb-1.0 wt%-doped SrTi[O.sub.3] compounds are analyzed. The stability of the leakage current of the system is shown to get highly enhanced with annealing taking place at higher temperatures.

The synthesis, properties and photoluminescence of the different ZnS:[Mn.sup.2+] nanowires/ZnO quantum dots/Si[O.sub.2] heterostructures are analyzed. The various measures that can be adopted for tuning the fluorescence of the system are also discussed.

Detailed spectroscopic and microscopic studies were conducted to examine the microstructures, morphologies and optical properties of as-synthesized Ce-doped ZnO nanorods prepared under mild hydrothermal condition. Both the undoped and Ce-doped ZnO nanorods were observed to have an UV emission and a defect emission and the Ce ions doping induced a redshift in the UV emission and a small enhancement in the defect emission.

The native-state hydrogen/deuterium exchange (NHX) profile of human upstream binding factor box 5 is investigated as a function of GdmCI concentration using denaturing conditions well below the unfolding transition region at pH 5.5. In contrast to the equilibrium unfolding events monitored by circular dichroism and fluorescence spectra, hydrophobic core among three helices is a slow exchange core as shown by NHX results.
