Abstract

Phase behavior and structural changes were studied for phospholipid monolayers coupled with human serum albumin (HSA) at the air/buffer (pH3.8) interface by film balance and grazing incidence X-ray diffraction (GIXD) measurements. For comparison, the lipid headgroup was varied from small ionic L-alpha-dipalmitoyl-phosphatidic acid (DPPA) to large ionic L-alpha-dipalmitoyl-phosphatidyl-L-serine (DPPS) and zwitterionic L-alpha-distearoyl-phosphatidylcholine (DSPC).

Abstract

Using molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of a single solute in water the hydration structures of the hydrophobic solutes benzene and cyclohexane were investigated. Three-dimensional maps of the density of the water O and H atoms surrounding either benzene or cyclohexane were generated from the simulation data.

Abstract

Nonequilibrium molecular dynamics (NEMD) simulations were used to evaluate diffusivities for binary mixtures of methane/Df4 propane/CF4, propane/CF4, n-butane/Cf4, and n-butane/ethane in zeolite faujasite at 300 K. Also, a formula to estimate the error bars in the transport coefficients from NEMD is presented.

Monolayers of newly synthesized amide phospholipids, 1-O-hexadecy-2-N-palmitoyl-2-amino-2-deoxy-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (L-ether-amide-PC) and 1-palmitoyl-2-N-palmitoyl-2-amino-2-deoxy-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (L-ether-amide-PC) were investigated at the air/subphase interface by Brewster angle microscopy combined with a conventional LB trough and Grazing incidence X-ray diffraction (GIXD).

Abstract

The combined monolayer technique is used with BAM to investigate the hydrolytic reaction of l-DPPC monolayer catalyzed by PLD. It is concluded that the phase separation of the hydrolytic product and the substrates in one monolayer play a key role in initially activating the hydrolysis process and then inhibiting the hydrolytic reaction.

The successful preparation of polyelectrolyte nanotubes with a pressure-filter-template technique is reported. This method allows the preparation of comparatively thick tube walls (tens of nanometers) with a high flexibility.
