The design of the cooling system for 100 MVA class three phase high temperature superconducting (HTS) transformer is discussed. Pumped cooling system is designed, which consist of three main cryostats containing HTS windings and one cold box supplying liquid nitrogen.

A continuous disk winding (CDW) technique for high voltage High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) transformers is discussed. Findings reveal that CDW technique is advantageous as it offers good insulation, limitation of voltage stress and low AC losses.

The conceptual design of a 33 MVA 154 kV/22.9 kV High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) transformer with on load tap changers (OLTCs) is discussed. Results suggest that the designed HTS transformer is highly efficient and can be substituted for the 20 MVA conventional transformers.

Five different specimens representing different typical welded connections in ship-shaped structures were fatigue-tested by HHI in Korea. The test data from the five different specimens for one loading condition were transferred into one hot spot S-N diagram. It was observed that two of the data series plotted rather high in the S-N diagram as compared with the other three test series. The reason for this was questioned. It was decided to test a few specimens at another test laboratory for verification of the test data. The same types of specimens were fabricated by HHI and shipped to Oslo and fatigue-tested in the laboratories of DNV. A 1 MVA High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) transformer with flux diverters is developed and the perpendicular component of leakage magnetic flux density is calculated. The design and electromagnetic field analysis are described in flux diverters.

Results demonstrate that Manila clam cannot maintain normal metabolic activities at a salinity regime lower than 15% as indicated by the oxygen-consumption rhythms. At 5% salinity for seven days, all clams are dead.

A study to investigate the endogenous circatidal rhythms in the pattern and behavior of inter-tidal organisms was conducted on samples of the Manila, Philippines, clam Ruditapes philippinarum removed from their natural environment. Their endogenous circatidal rhythms in oxygen consumption were observed. Measurements were taken with an automatic intermittent flow respirometer after holding in the laboratory under continuously immersed conditions for nine weeks.

The physiological processes of some aquatic organisms may be affected by exposure to sudden changes in salinity. A change in metabolism is of particular significance for euryhaline, migratory fishes, such as the sea bass Lateolabrax japonicus. A new study investigates the effect of salinity changes on oxygen consumption of the spotted sea bass. The study shows that spotted seas bass can maintain a regular endogenous rhythm of oxygen consumption when salinity drops from 31.5% to fresh water.
