Abstract

A study was conducted among gay men to examine the ability of the individual to observe the strict course of therapy that is prescribed for HIV. Results revealed that patients admitted that adherence was extremely difficult and took a long time to be a part of their daily lives.

2. The mental health of homeless school-age children

Abstract

The mental health of homeless children of school age has been studied. Forty-six children aged 8 to 12 were surveyed through use of the Children's Depression Inventory (CDI) and mothers completed the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL). Of the children in the study, 57% were found to have depressive symptoms, and 26% needed more evaluation for mental health problems. Neither gender nor ethnicity was related to mental health in the children studied. These children appear to be at risk for mental health problems. Their mental health should be assessed.
