The aerospace industry is driving the development of systems that increase the linear accuracy of machine tools. A conventional machine tool normally uses a computer numerical control unit coupled with a rotational device to track linear positions. However, due to the greater demands of aerospace equipment, the aerospace industry has developed systems that use lasers, which are more accurate.
