Abstract

Information about an organic chemistry experiment in which students perform a Wittig olefination and determine the ratio of cis and trans isomers produced is presented. The students have found that changing the cation present as an effect on the relative ratio of cis and trans isomers. Information about the Wittig reaction is also provided.
