Abstract

A study conducted by a research team in Purdue University indicated that a study of live weight buying systems and hog pricing can predict profits. Two genotypes of hogs were studied for their weight, feed efficiency, fat content and lean efficiency. The results showed that swine carcass with higher lean efficiency have a higher value to both the packer and producer than swine carcass with heavy weights.
