A study of effect of reaction time and the H2O/SiO2 reactant ratio is presented. It concludes that the low H2O/SiO2 reactant ratios lead to more open framework host structures and there is typically a higher uptake of organo-cation and fluorine.

The local structures of framework boron atoms in borosilicate zeolites B-beta, B-SSZ-33 and B-SSZ-42 are studied in the course of hydration/dehydration by employing solid-state NMR methods. (super 11)B MAS NMR spectra showed that boron trigonally coordinated to the framework (B(OSi)3, denoted as B[3]) can be readily transformed to a defective trigonal boron site (B(OSi)2(OH), denoted as B[3]-I) as a result of hydration.

Cationic Pd(II) complexes have catalyzed the dehydrogenation of ammonia borane in an efficient by releasing 2.0 equiv of [H.sub.2]. Most of the hydrogen atoms are obtained from the boron atom of the ammonia borane and the first step of the dehydrogenation reaction is described by using density functional theory calculations.

The impact of making symmetric diquaternary ammonium compounds is studied by varying the chain length between nitrogen charge centers, and the heterocycle size and geometry containing the nitrogen. The use of specific chain lengths for derivatives of the pyrrolidine ring system has produced novel zeolite materials SSZ-74 and 75.

An attempt is made to study the steric confinement of isolated molecules that are tethered to the interior surface of bulk microporous and mesoporous silicate material networks. The [sup.2.H] MAS NMR study unequivocally demonstrates that the bulk materials achieved through steric confinement of the immobilized 1, severely limiting molecular mobility at both room temperature and elevated temperature.
