Abstract

Metabolic changes are assessed after initiation of protease inhibitor (PI)-sparing regimes in antiretroviral-naive patients. The results have shown mild increases in glucose and decreases in insulin sensitivity in all regimens, whereas lipids are modestly higher in the 3-drug efavirenz (EFV)-containing arms and the metabolic dysfunctions of concern after the PI-sparing therapies are abnormal total cholesterol (TC) and lower high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels.

Abstract

The use of debriefing and support groups for children who experienced the deaths of family members in traumatic events of September 11, 2001 is reviewed. Stress-reduction exercises suitable for use with traumatized children in bereavement groups are presented together with specific drawings and written activities to encourage the processing of feelings.

Abstract

Caffeine lengthens ECT seizures, perhaps by lowering the convulsive threshold. The authors assessed the impact of caffeine on the convulsive threshold and seizure duration. The convulsive threshold and seizure durations of 12 inpatients receiving right unilateral ECT were determined with and without caffeine pretreatment. Caffeine did not change the convulsive threshold, but it did lengthen seizure duration. Caffeine's lengthening of seizure duration without affecting the convulsive threshold is an uncertain benefit in right unilateral ECT.

The North Carolina Dept of Economic and Community Development has been actively promoting the state's exportable goods in Germany and other countries in Europe. North Carolina companies have begun penetrating European markets with full support of state authorities. Exports totalled $8.5 billion in 1991, a figure which is double that of 1987. Previously, breaking into the European market was an ordeal. European exhibitions were filled to the brim with continental participants that foreign would-be exhibitors including those of the US had to wait for years for vacant slots to show their wares.
