A simplified inverse filter tracking (SIFT) algorithm is presented for estimating mean trabecular bone spacing (MTBS) from ultrasonic backscatter signals. Findings reveal the reliability and robustness of the SIFT algorithm in estimating MTBS in the presence of a small signal-to noise ratio, a large spacing variation between regular scatterers and a large scattering strength ratio of diffuse scatterers to regular ones.

A novel approach for blood and wall signal separation in Doppler ultrasound is proposed in the wavelet time-scale domain. The new method delivers improved performance for 'wall thump' removal with minimal loss of low-flow signal compared with the conventional high-pass filtering and the signal separation in the spectrogram.

Research is presented concerning the use of simulation and clinical studies to investigate the denoising the Doppler ultrasound signal. Discrete wavelet frame analysis was used to obtain wavelet coefficients of the Doppler signal.
