Abstract

A study was conducted to investigate Alaska-based Emperor Geese for avian hematozoa. Blood samples were collected in 134 adults and goslings on the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta. Elliptical micro and macrogametocytes were the predominant forms of gametocytes observed in the study. Results indicated a new host record for the parasite, Leucocytozoon simondi, which has been implicated in diseases and mortalities in juvenile birds.
