Purpose: This study aimed to determine pediatric emergency nurses' experiences and opinions regarding child-friendly care within Watson's Human Care Model framework., Design and Methods: This study is qualitative research conducted with nurses in the pediatric emergency unit of a university hospital between 06 March and 06 April 2024. This study used a purposive sampling method and conducted semi-structured interviews with 17 nurses. All interviews were audio recorded and transcribed. Inductive thematic analysis method was used. The study was written based on the COREQ checklist., Findings: This study determined two themes, five sub-themes, and 13 categories. The theme "challenges to child-friendly healthcare implementation" included a lack of physical space and agitated and violent families. It has been reported that physical space, especially where privacy is not protected, makes child-friendly care complex, and the violent reactions of families are significant obstacles. The second theme, "facilitators for an ideal child-friendly pediatric emergency unit," included the design of the pediatric emergency unit/improving physical environment, availability of appropriate equipment, and effective communication strategies. This theme emphasizes the importance of colorfully designing the physical space and equipment in a way that does not scare children., Conclusion: It has been determined that the healing environment and care processes are essential for child-friendly care. Objective: This study aimed to explore the effects of a mHealth-based relaxation program on anxiety and stress coping levels in mothers of children with cancer., Methods: This randomized controlled, single-blind, parallel-group trial was conducted in the pediatric hematology-oncology unit of a university hospital. The study was completed by 50 mothers (intervention group: n = 25; control group: n = 25). The mothers in the intervention group participated in a mHealth-based relaxation program for eight weeks (including progressive muscle relaxation, guided imagery, and the four-leaf clover of mindfulness). Videos of the relaxation program were sent to mothers' WhatsApp accounts. The mothers in the control group received routine care. The State-Trait Anxiety and Stress Coping Scales were administered during the first and eighth weeks. The registration number of this study on ClinicalTrials.gov is NCT05807295., Results: Mothers who participated in the relaxation program had lower anxiety levels and higher stress-coping scores than those in the control group (p < 0.05)., Conclusion: Progressive muscle relaxation exercises, guided imagery, and cognitive-based therapeutic approaches were effective in reducing mothers' anxiety and stress coping., Practice Implications: Pediatric oncology nurses can apply mHealth-based relaxation programs to support caregivers, particularly mothers. Background: Food allergies adversely affect the quality of life of the child and family, as they require lifelong treatment and follow-up. This study aims to examine the experiences of mothers who have children with food allergies within the framework of the biopsychosocial-spiritual model., Methods: This study, using a qualitative research design, was carried out with mothers of children followed up with food allergy in the pediatric allergy outpatient clinic of a university hospital between December 15, 2022 and January 05, 2023. Purposive sampling method was used in the study and semi-structured interviews were conducted with 12 mothers. All interviews were audio recorded and transcribed. Inductive thematic analysis method was used. The study was written based on the COREQ checklist., Findings: Three themes, eight sub-themes, and 19 categories were identified: The effects of the disease on the physical health of the child and mother in the biological effects theme; psychosocial responses to disease, adaptation to treatment, future anxiety, coping strategies, and communication/interaction in the psychosocial effects theme; search for purpose-meaning in life and understanding belief/basic human values in the spiritual effects theme., Discussion: It has been concluded that food allergies affect maternal health extensively, especially in the psychosocial field, and that it affects family relationships, the time that mothers spare for themselves, and physical and spiritual health., Application to Practice: The findings will be a guide for improving the quality of life of mothers followed up with food allergies and for the care and counseling support to be provided to mothers., Competing Interests: Declaration of Competing Interest The authors declare that they have no conflict of interests., (Copyright © 2023 Elsevier Inc. Trials: The study aimed to investigate the effect of virtual reality interventions on relieving pain and anxiety in children and adolescents receiving cancer treatment. A search that involved Cochrane Library (comprising Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL)), PubMed, ProQuest, MEDLINE, Web of Sciences, Science Direct, and Scopus electronic databases covering the records from January 1, 2000 up to May, 2023 was conducted to determine randomized controlled trials that could be included in our study. The results of the search were limited to "anxiety and pain, adolescents, children, virtual reality, cancer." Of the 160 articles that were reached during the search, seven were found eligible based on inclusion criteria. Hedges' g effect size was calculated for each article. Random effects model was used to test effect sizes and moderator variables. The registration number of this meta-analysis on PROSPERO is CRD42022304737. The outcomes were pain and anxiety. Compared with standard care, virtual reality had a medium and significant effect on anxiety (g = 0.60, 95% CI: [- 1.05 - 0.15]) and pain (g = - 0.667, 95% CI: [- 1.08- -0.24]). In addition, age has been identified as an important moderator in the use of virtual reality in pain management. This meta-analysis shows that virtual reality applications are effective interventions for reducing pain and anxiety in the field of pediatric oncology. However, it is necessary to carry out randomized controlled trials that have large samples for evidence-based virtual reality applications in pediatric oncology., (© 2023. Background: Cancer can have various psychosocial effects on children and young adults. Technology-based psychosocial interventions are increasingly popular in paediatric oncology for psychosocial health., Objective: The objective of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of technology-based psychosocial interventions applied to children, adolescent and young adults undergoing cancer treatment., Methods: Eight electronic databases including PubMed, Cochrane Library (including Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials [CENTRAL]), CINAHL Plus with Full Text, PsycINFO, MEDLINE, ProQuest, Science Direct and Scopus were searched to identify eligible randomised controlled trials from 1 January 2010 up to 9 April 2021. Search results were limited to 'children, adolescent and young adults' 6-24 years undergoing cancer treatment. Randomised controlled studies in which technology-based psychosocial interventions were applied were examined. Of 4,927 articles, 12 articles met the inclusion criteria. Hedges' g effect size was computed for each study. Effect sizes and moderator variables were tested using random-effects models. This study is registered with PROSPERO, number CRD42020177787., Results: The outcomes were anger, anxiety, coping, depression, distress, quality of life and resilience. Compared with standard care, technology-based psychosocial interventions had a large effect and significantly on anger (g = -1.327, 95% CI: [-2.43, 0.22], anxiety (g = -0.89, 95%CI: [-1.34, -0.18], and depression (g = -1.05, 95% CI: [-1.65,-0.46]. Also, it was found that the duration of interventions had a significant moderator and effect size of the distress and resilience outcomes increased as the duration increased., Conclusion: This meta-analysis demonstrated that technology-based psychosocial interventions served as an effective intervention as it appears to have implications reducing anger, anxiety and depression in paediatric oncology. Nevertheless, randomised controlled studies with larger samples still needed to establish evidence-based psycho-oncological interventions for paediatric oncology.
