Volterra integro-partial differential equations with weakly singular kernels (VIPDEWSK) are utilized to model diverse physical phenomena. A matrix collocation method is proposed for determining the approximate solution of this functional equation category. The method employs shifted Chebyshev polynomials of the fifth kind (SCPFK) to construct two-dimensional pseudo-operational matrices of integration, avoiding the need for explicit integration and thereby speeding up computations. Error bounds are examined in a Chebyshev-weighted space, providing insights into approximation accuracy. This paper shows how to obtain highly accurate solutions of eighth-order boundary-value problems of linear and nonlinear ordinary differential equations. The presented method is based on the Theory of Functional Connections, and is solved in two steps. First, the Theory of Functional Connections analytically embeds the differential equation constraints into a candidate function (called a constrained expression) containing a function that the user is free to choose. This expression always satisfies the constraints, no matter what the free function is. Second, the free-function is expanded as a linear combination of orthogonal basis functions with unknown coefficients. The constrained expression (and its derivatives) are then substituted into the eighth-order differential equation, transforming the problem into an unconstrained optimization problem where the coefficients in the linear combination of orthogonal basis functions are the optimization parameters. These parameters are then found by linear/nonlinear least-squares. The solution obtained from this method is a highly accurate analytical approximation of the true solution. The Lotka-Volterra model is a differential system of two coupled equations representing the interaction of two species: a prey one and a predator one. We formulate an optimal control problem adding the effect of hunting both species as the control variable. We analyse the optimal hunting problem paying special attention to the nature of the optimal state and control trajectories in long time intervals. To do that, we apply recent theoretical results on the frame to show that, when the time horizon is large enough, optimal strategies are nearly steady-state. Such path is known as turnpike property. Some experiments are performed to observe such turnpike phenomenon in the hunting problem. Based on the turnpike property, we implement a variant of the single shooting method to solve the previous optimisation problem, taking the middle of the time interval as starting point.
