Identifying factors that drive infection dynamics in reservoir host populations is essential in understanding human risk from wildlife-originated zoonoses. We studied zoonotic Puumala orthohantavirus (PUUV) in the host, the bank vole ( Myodes glareolus ), populations in relation to the host population, rodent and predator community and environment-related factors and whether these processes are translated into human infection incidence. We used 5-year rodent trapping and bank vole PUUV serology data collected from 30 sites located in 24 municipalities in Finland. We found that PUUV seroprevalence in the host was negatively associated with the abundance of red foxes, but this process did not translate into human disease incidence, which showed no association with PUUV seroprevalence. The abundance of weasels, the proportion of juvenile bank voles in the host populations and rodent species diversity were negatively associated with the abundance index of PUUV positive bank voles, which, in turn, showed a positive association with human disease incidence. Our results suggest certain predators, a high proportion of young bank vole individuals, and a diverse rodent community, may reduce PUUV risk for humans through their negative impacts on the abundance of infected bank voles.

A compartmental mathematical model of spreading COVID-19 disease in Wuhan, China is applied to investigate the pandemic behaviour in Iran. This model is a system of seven ordinary differential equations including individual behavioural reactions, governmental actions, holiday extensions, travel restrictions, hospitalizations, and quarantine. We fit the Chinese model to the Covid-19 outbreak in Iran and estimate the values of parameters by trial-error approach. We use the Adams-Bashforth predictor-corrector method based on Lagrange polynomials to solve the system of ordinary differential equations. To prove the existence and uniqueness of solutions of the model we use Banach fixed point theorem and Picard iterative method. Also, we evaluate the equilibrium points and the stability of the system. With estimating the basic reproduction number R 0 , we assess the trend of new infected cases in Iran. In addition, the sensitivity analysis of the model is assessed by allocating different parameters to the system. Statement of Problem: Digital and conventional options for definitive impressions and for the fabrication of fixed dental prostheses (FDPs) have been compared in previous studies. However, a comprehensive review with concluding data that determined which method provided the minimal internal and marginal adaptation is lacking., Purpose: The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis of in vivo and in vitro studies was to compare the marginal and internal adaptation of complete-coverage single-unit crowns and multiunit FDPs resulting from digital and conventional impression and fabrication methods., Material and Methods: The review protocol was registered in International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (PROSPERO) and followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement. PubMed, Cochrane Trials, Scopus, and Open Grey databases were used to identify relevant articles. Based on fixed prostheses impression and fabrication methods, groups from each study were categorized into 4 groups: conventional impression and fabrication (CC), conventional impression and digital fabrication (CD), digital scanning and conventional fabrication (DC), and digital scanning and fabrication (DD). The risk of bias was assessed by using the Cochrane Collaboration tool for clinical trials and the modified Methodological Index for Non-Randomized Studies (MINORS) for in vitro studies. Heterogeneity was evaluated among studies, and meta-analysis was performed with random-effect models (α=.05). Subgroup analysis was conducted when possible., Results: Eight clinical trials and 21 in vitro studies were eligible for analysis. There was no significant difference between the CD and DD clinical groups for marginal adaptation (P=.149); However, the DD group had significantly less internal discrepancy than the CD group (P=.009). The in vitro studies found no significant difference in marginal adaptation among the CC-CD, CC-DC, and CC-DD pairs (P=.437, P=.387, P=.587), but in the comparison CD versus DD group, a significantly better marginal adaptation was observed for the DD group (P=.001). All the compared in vitro groups were similar in terms of internal adaptation., Conclusions: Impression and fabrication techniques may affect the accuracy of fit of complete-coverage fixed restorations. Zoonotic diseases, caused by pathogens transmitted between other vertebrate animals and humans, pose a major risk to human health. Rodents are important reservoir hosts for many zoonotic pathogens, and rodent population dynamics affect the infection dynamics of rodent-borne diseases, such as diseases caused by hantaviruses. However, the role of rodent population dynamics in determining the infection dynamics of rodent-associated tick-borne diseases, such as Lyme borreliosis (LB), caused by Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato bacteria, have gained limited attention in Northern Europe, despite the multiannual abundance fluctuations, the so-called vole cycles, that characterise rodent population dynamics in the region. Here, we quantify the associations between rodent abundance and LB human cases and Puumala Orthohantavirus (PUUV) infections by using two time series (25-year and 9-year) in Finland. Both bank vole (Myodes glareolus) abundance as well as LB and PUUV infection incidence in humans showed approximately 3-year cycles. Without vector transmitted PUUV infections followed the bank vole host abundance fluctuations with two-month time lag, whereas tick-transmitted LB was associated with bank vole abundance ca. 12 and 24 months earlier. However, the strength of association between LB incidence and bank vole abundance ca. 12 months before varied over the study years. This study highlights that the human risk to acquire rodent-borne pathogens, as well as rodent-associated tick-borne pathogens is associated with the vole cycles in Northern Fennoscandia, yet with complex time lags., (© 2021. Objective: This study aimed to measure the prevalence of internet addiction and its impact on the psychological well-being of adolescents in Tehran, considering the sociodemographic characteristics. Method : In this cross sectional study, a total of 945 (mean age of 14.85) students (522 boys and 423 girls) were recruited by 2-stage clustering sampling method in 2017. The Chen Internet Addiction Scale (CIAS) and Youth Self-Report (YSR) were used to measure internet addiction and psychological characteristics, respectively. The data were analyzed using multiple-logistic regression analysis adjusted for internet addiction and sociodemographic variables. Results: Overall, 20% of the adolescents were internet addicts. Gender, consanguineous marriage, and father's education level were significantly associated with internet addiction. Regarding emotional and behavioral characteristics, internet addiction was significantly associated with the scores of internalizing (OR = 5.03; 95% CI: 3.05-8.28) and externalizing problems (OR = 5.84; 95% CI: 3.61-9.43), the total score of empirical scales (OR = 6.51; 95% CI: 3.71-11.6), and all DSM-oriented scales of the YSR (p < 0.001). Except for school performance, other competency scales had no correlations with internet addiction. Conclusion: Regarding the high prevalence of the internet addiction and its correlation with emotional and behavioral characteristics, students and their parents should be advised of the detrimental impacts of internet addiction and try to focus on its constructive application., (Copyright © Psychiatry & Psychology Research Center, Tehran University of Medical Sciences.)

From a health prospective, it is critical to provide a comprehensive model which integrates all the parameters involved in virus transmission and its consequences on human body. In order to estimate the health risks, for workers and residents, associated with an exposure airborne viruses emitted from a wastewater treatment (WWTP), the concentration levels of viruses in emitted bioaerosols over a twelve-month period were measured by real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). A combined Gaussian plum dispersion model and quantitative microbial risk assessment (QMRA) with Monte-Carlo simulation served as suitable explanatory tools to estimate the risk of acquiring gastrointestinal illness (GI) due to exposure to air containing Rotavirus (RoV) and Norovirus (NoV) bioaerosols. Additionally, DALY metric was applied to quantify the disability and mortality for workers and residents. RoV and NoV were detected above aeration tank with annual mean concentration 27 and 3099 (Viruses/m 3 .h), respectively. The medium calculated DALY indicator based on viral loads in contaminant source (RoV:5.76 × 10 -2 and NoV:1.23 × 10 -1 ) and estimated in different distances away (300-1000 m) (RoV:2.87 × 10 -2 - 2.75 × 10 -2 and NoV:1.14 × 10 -1 -1.13 × 10 -1 ) were markedly higher than the threshold values recommended by US EPA (10 -4 DALY pppy) and WHO (10 -6 DALY pppy). The sensitivity analysis highlighted dose exposure and disease burden per case (DBPC) as two most influential factors for both workers and residents following exposure to two pathogens of concern. Due to high resistance and high concentration in the environment, the presence of RoV and NoV can intensify the consequences of diarrhea especially for children under five years of age; A comprehensible and transparent presentation of DALYs and QMRA can help decision makers and responsibilities to justify the priorities of exposure to wastewater in comparison with other risks of daily life., (Copyright © 2019 Elsevier Ltd. Background: The high polymorphism in the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) genes can be used as an identity of individuals to compare with other populations. This extreme polymorphism in the HLA system is accountable for the differences in alleles and haplotypes among ethnic groups, populations, and the inhabitants of many regions., Objective: To define the frequency of HLA alleles and haplotypes among the Sistanis, Sistani/Zaboli population in Iran., Methods: In this study, genotyping of class I (A, B, C) and class II HLA (DRB1, DQA1, DQB1) loci were determined in 90 unrelated Iraninan Sistani people and the results were compared with 474,892 HLA chromosomes from a diverse worldwide population., Results: The highest frequently observed alleles in this study were A*02:01, B*35:01, C*12:03, C*06:02, DRB1*11, DQA1*05:05, and DQB1*03:01. Furthermore, the most frequent 3-locus haplotypes were A*02:01-B*50:01*C*06:02, DRB1*11-DQB1*03:01-DQA1*05:05, and A*02:01-B*50:01-DRB1*07. The most occurring 4-locus haplotypes were A*02:01-B*50:01-C*06:02-DRB1*07 and A*02:01-B*50:01-DRB1*07-DQB1*02:01. A*02:01-B*50:01-C*06:02-DRB1*07-DQB1*02:01 and A*02:01-B*50:01-C*06:02-DRB1*07-DQB1*02:01-DQA1*02:01 were determined to be the predominant 5- and 6-locus haplotypes, respectively. The heat maps and multiple correspondence analyses based on the frequency of HLA alleles showed that Sistanis share a common genetic inheritance with other Iranian ethnic groups such as the people from Yazd and Fars except some differences with Baluchis, Iranian Jews, Lurs of Kohgiluyeh/Buyerahmad, and Arabs of Fars, which may arise from the admixture of these groups or with foreign subgroups over centuries, and also a close relatedness with some European populations., Conclusion: These data could be useful for finding better donor matches for organ transplantation among Sistanis or other related Iranian ethnic groups, epidemiological studies of HLA-associated diseases, handling HLA genomics and mapping the migration pattern of different ethnic group.

The major histocompatibility complex (MHC) genes are the most polymorphic loci in the human genome and have been widely studied in various populations and ethnic groups. Investigations into the HLA genes and proteins have been useful tool for anthropological, transplantation and disease association studies. The polymorphism of the HLA class I (A, B, C) and class II (DRB1, DQA1, DQB1) genes were investigated in 90 unrelated Iranian individuals from Yazd province located in the center of Iran using sequence-specific primers (PCR-SSP). Allele and haplotype frequencies, expected/observed heterozygosity, unbiased expected heterozygosity, number of effective alleles, deviations from Hardy-Weinberg (HW) equilibrium and genetic diversity were computed. A total of 23, 48, 23, 24, 13 and 16 alleles for HLA-A, -B,-C, -DRB1, -DQA and -DQB loci were determined, respectively in the population study. The most frequent allele identified in this study were A*02:01 (18.889%), HLA-B* 51:01 (12.778%), HLA-C* 12:03 (17.033%), HLA-DRB* 11 (24.4%), HLA-DQA* 05:05 (20.55%) and HLA-DQB*03:01 (22.8%).Furthermore, the most frequent 3-locus haplotypes were DRB*11-DQA*05:01-DQB*03:01 (21.1%), HLA-A*02:01- B *50:01- DRB*07:01 (4.9%) and A*26:01 -B* 38:01 -C*12:03(5%). The most 4-locus haplotype were A*11:01 -B* 52:01 -C*12:03 -DRB!*15(2.5%) and A*02:01 -B* 50:01 -DRB1*07:01 -DQB1*02:01(4.5%). The heterozygosity of the study population was confirmed the expected value and not deviated from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium for all loci (p>0.05). Our study shows a close relatedness between Yazd population and other ethnic group of Iran despite some differences, which may be due to admixture of each one of these groups with each other or foreigner subpopulations during centuries. Moreover, the results of this study suggest that the Iranian population from Yazd province is in close vicinity with the Caucasians populations and far from the Korean and Japanese populations.
