Aberrant mitochondrial energy transfer underlies prevalent chronic health conditions, including cancer, cardiovascular, and neurodegenerative diseases. Mitochondrial transplantation represents an innovative strategy aimed at restoring favorable metabolic phenotypes in cells with dysfunctional energy metabolism. While promising, significant barriers to in vivo translation of this approach abound, including limited cellular uptake and recognition of mitochondria as foreign. The objective is to functionalize isolated mitochondria with a biocompatible polymer to enhance cellular transplantation and eventual in vivo applications. Herein, it is demonstrated that grafting of a polymer conjugate composed of dextran with triphenylphosphonium onto isolated mitochondria protects the organelles and facilitates cellular internalization compared with uncoated mitochondria. Importantly, mitochondrial transplantation into cancer and cardiovascular cells has profound effects on respiration, mediating a shift toward improved oxidative phosphorylation, and reduced glycolysis. These findings represent the first demonstration of polymer functionalization of isolated mitochondria, highlighting a viable strategy for enabling clinical applications of mitochondrial transplantation.

Background: This study was done to know the effect of antismoking legislation among different professional students as, in this age group individuals tend to involve in such adverse habits., Materials & Methods: In this cross-sectional study, three different professional students (Arts, Engineering and Dental) were considered. A pretested self administered structured questionnaire was used to know the attitude of students towards anti smoking legislation like smoking habits, awareness of antismoking legislation etc., Statistical Analysis Used: Data was analysed using ANOVA and students't test. p<0.05 was considered as the level of significance., Results: The total study subjects were 990 including 396 -smokers and 594 - non smokers. 84.7% knew about antismoking legislation and around 70.2% answered that it was good to ban smoking in public places. Non smokers gave significantly more positive response towards law against smoking., Conclusion: Overall results were supporting for the antismoking legislation. But there is a lack of enforcing mechanism in support of legislation, so a total ban on smoking may give us better and healthy results. In adipocytes, the Cbl/CAP dependent signaling pathway has been involved in regulating insulin-stimulated glucose uptake. We investigated activation of Cbl and its downstream effector TC10 in cardiac and skeletal muscle of Balb/C mice. Insulin administration resulted in Cbl phosphorylation in cardiac, skeletal muscle, and adipose tissue. Subsequent TC10 activation was detected only in heart and adipose tissue. c-Cbl and CAP gene expression was significantly reduced in the heart tissue of streptozotocin-induced diabetic animals, whereas no change was observed for other components of the pathway. No changes in Cbl expression were detected in hindlimb muscle. In leptin-/- obese mice Cbl expression in heart and adipose tissue was maintained, although insulin-mediated Cbl phosphorylation and subsequent TC10 activation were significantly reduced. In conclusion, our data demonstrate that Cbl/CAP/TC10 insulin signaling pathway is active in cardiac muscle and impaired during obesity and insulin deficiency.
