Background: Gout is a common kind of inflammatory arthritis with metabolic disorders. However, the detailed pathogenesis of gout is complex and not fully clear. We investigated the urine metabolic profiling of gout patients by ultra-performance liquid chromatograph quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-TOF-MS)., Method: Urine metabolites were extracted from 26 acute gout patients, 31 chronic gout patients, and 32 healthy controls. Metabolite extracts were analyzed by UPLC-Q-TOF-MS for untargeted metabolomics. The peak area of creatinine was used to correct the content variations of urine samples for the semi-quantitative analysis. The value of variable importance in the projection (VIP) was obtained through the orthogonal partial least squares-discrimination analysis (OPLS-DA), and several differential metabolites were screened out., Results: The potential metabolic markers of gout in different stages were found based on the t-test. Finally, 18 different metabolites were identified through Human Metabolome Database (HMDB) and Targeted-MS/MS. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve results revealed that all the screened biomarkers exerted high accuracy and diagnostic value. Pathway analysis indicated that the significantly different metabolites were mainly involved in purine metabolism and amino acid metabolism., Conclusion: The identified potential biomarkers are mainly involved in purine metabolism and amino acid metabolism, which leads us to further explore the pathogenesis of gout. Hydrometallurgy is a primary method for recovering cathode electrode materials from spent lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Most of the current research materials are pure cathode electrode materials obtained through manual disassembly. However, the spent LIBs are typically broken as a whole during the actual industrial recycling which makes the electrode materials combined with the collector fluid. Therefore, the competitive leaching between metal collector fluid and electrode material was examined. The pyrolysis characteristics of the electrode materials were analyzed to determine the pyrolysis temperature. The electrode sheet was pyrolyzed and then crushed for competitive leaching. The effect of pyrolysis was analyzed by XPS. The competitive leaching behavior was studied based on leaching agent concentration, leaching time and leaching temperature. The composition and morphology of the residue were determined to prove the competitive leaching results by XRD-SEM. TG results showed that 500 °C was the suitable pyrolysis temperature. XPS analysis demonstrated that pyrolysis can completely remove PVDF. Li and Co were preferentially leached during the competitive leaching while the leaching rates were 90.10% and 93.40% with 50 min leaching at 70 °C. The Al and Cu had weak competitive leachability and the leaching rate was 29.10% and 0.00%. XRD-SEM analysis showed that Li and Co can be fully leached with residual Al and Cu remaining. Introduction: The contamination of dental unit waterlines (DUWLs) poses a significant risk of cross-infection in dentistry. Although chemical disinfectants have been effective in reducing number of bacteria, they do have limitations., Methods: This study aimed to investigate the potential of chlorogenic acid, a natural substance with broadspectrum antibacterial properties, for treating DUWLs. Over a period of three months, we analyzed the microbial communities in 149 DUWLs samples collected from 5 dental units using high-throughput pyrophosphate sequencing., Results: The results revealed that chlorogenic acid treatment had a significant impact on the microbial community profile in the DUWLs, with the most significant changes occurring within the first 15 days and stabilization observed in the last 30 days. The predominant genera detected in the samples were Bacteroides, Lactobacillus, Streptococcus, Methylobacterium, and Phreatobacter. Additionally, the relative abundance of certain beneficial bacteria, such as Alloprevotella, Roseburia, and Blautia, increased, while the presence of opportunistic pathogens like Mycobacteria significantly decreased. Photocatalytic organic reactions, harvesting solar energy to produce high value-added organic chemicals, have attracted increasing attention as a sustainable approach to address the global energy crisis and environmental issues. Reticular framework materials, including metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs), are widely considered as promising candidates for photocatalysis owing to their high crystallinity, tailorable pore environment and extensive structural diversity. Although the design and synthesis of MOFs and COFs have been intensively developed in the last 20 years, their applications in photocatalytic organic transformations are still in the preliminary stage, making their systematic summary necessary. Thus, this review aims to provide a comprehensive understanding and useful guidelines for the exploration of suitable MOF and COF photocatalysts towards appropriate photocatalytic organic reactions. The commonly used reactions are categorized to facilitate the identification of suitable reaction types. From a practical viewpoint, the fundamentals of experimental design, including active species, performance evaluation and external reaction conditions, are discussed in detail for easy experimentation. Furthermore, the latest advances in photocatalytic organic reactions of MOFs and COFs, including their composites, are comprehensively summarized according to the actual active sites, together with the discussion of their structure-property relationship. We believe that this study will be helpful for researchers to design novel reticular framework photocatalysts for various organic synthetic applications.

Physically precise and mechanically robust biocarrier is basic and urgent requirement of algal-bacterial wastewater treatment plants for homogenously biofilm growth. Herein, a highly efficient graphene oxide (GO) coordinated polyether polyurethane (PP) sponge was synthesized through GO incorporation into PP sponge to improve the GO coating, followed by UV-light treatment for industrial application. The resulted sponge showed remarkable physiochemical characteristics, excellent thermal (>0.02 Wm -1  K -1 ) and mechanical (>363.3 KPa) stability. To test the potential of sponge in real world scenarios, the activated sludge from real wastewater treatment plant was utilized. Interestingly, the GO-PP sponge enhanced the electron transfer between microorganisms and promoted the standardized microorganism's growth and biofilm formation (22.7 mg/d per gram sponge, 172.1 mg/g), providing the feasibility to accomplish a symbiotic system within specifically design upgraded algal-bacterial reactor. Furthermore, the continuous flow process by utilizing GO-PP sponge in algal-bacterial reactor demonstrated the effectiveness in treating low concentration antibiotic wastewater, presenting 86.7 % removal rate and >85 % after 20 cycles. Study Design: Retrospective analysis., Objective: We investigated whether complete correction of cervical sagittal malalignment is necessary during 4-level anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) in patients with kyphosis., Methods: This retrospective study included 84 patients who underwent 4-level ACDF surgery at a university hospital between January 2010 and December 2015. Based on the degree of cervical lordosis correction, patients were categorized into the following groups: mild (0-10°), moderate (10-20°), and complete correction (>20°). The clinical outcomes, radiological parameters, and functional outcomes were analyzed., Results: We observed no significant intergroup differences in the baseline characteristics. The cervical sagittal vertical axis (CSVA) correction loss at the final follow-up was lesser in the mild- and moderate- than in the complete-correction group. The spinocranial angle (SCA) and T1 slope (T1 S) were significantly higher in the moderate- and complete-correction groups than in the mild-correction group, 3 days postoperatively. The cervical proximal junctional kyphosis (CPJK), adjacent segment degeneration (ASD), and ASD following CPJK rates were higher in the complete-correction group. We observed no significant intergroup differences in postoperative complications; however, 5 patients showed internal fixation failure in the complete-correction group; 4 of these patients required reoperation. No significant intergroup difference was observed in the Japanese Orthopedic Association and neck disability index scores at any time point., Conclusions: A mild-to-moderate correction of cervical lordosis is superior to complete correction in patients with kyphosis who undergo 4-level ACDF because this approach is associated with lesser axial stress and CSVA correction loss.

Background: As observed in recent genetic studies, PITX2 is one of the most popular genes with atrial fibrillation; single nucleotide polymorphism (rs2200733) at chromosome 4q25 (near PITX2) is found to be strongly associated with atrial fibrillation, but it has a difference among Chinese Han population. The basic aim of conducting this study is to find the correlation between PITX2 gene polymorphism and the risk of atrial fibrillation and to identify the possibility for early diagnosis of silent atrial fibrillation and high-risk atrial fibrillation., Methods: The study included 98 cases of atrial fibrillation patients and 88 non-atrial fibrillation patients in Affiliated Hospital of Yangzhou University were enrolled in a case-control study. The single nucleotide polymorphism of rs2200733 at 4q25 near PITX2 was genotyped by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis., Results: A total of 98 patients with atrial fibrillation were genotyped, and the following frequencies were included in genotype percentages (44.9%, 50%, and 5.1%) while distribution of significant single nucleotide polymorphism rs2200733 consisted (29.55%, 53.41%, and 17.05%) which showed (χ2 = 9.159, P =.01). There was no significant difference in TC genotype frequency (P =.642), frequency of T allele (χ2 = 7.447, P =.006), and T allele was 1.806 times that of the control group (odds ratio = 1.806, 95% CI = 1.179-2.766, P =.006). According to logistic regression analysis, following results were concluded for TC genotype (odds ratio = 3.128, 95% CI = 1.053-9.287, P =.04), or TT genotype (odds ratio = 5.077, 95% CI = 1.653-15.595, P =.005) increased the risk of atrial fibrillation., Conclusions: The genotype and allele frequency distribution of rs2200733 (T/C) near PITX2 is different in the atrial fibrillation group and the control group. The T allele is a risk factor for atrial fibrillation. Compared with the CC genotype, the TT genotype increased the risk of atrial fibrillation.

Background: Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is an important method to improve the prognosis of patients with prehospital cardiac arrest (CA). Basic life support (BLS) is the first step in CPR and is usually performed by the first witness. However, the general population has poor BLS skills due to the lack of efficient and practical training strategy. Several training initiatives could be used to improve this situation, and the challenge is to find the most efficient one in detail according to the actual setting. Repeated and effective BLS training increase bystander's confidence and willingness to perform BLS. Evidence-based instructional design is essential to improve the training of lay providers and ultimately improve resuscitation performance and patient outcomes., Objective: 1) To develop an evidence-based BLS training protocol for lay undergraduates; 2) to implement the protocol and 3) to evaluate the process of implementation., Methods: Nine databases were searched to synthesize the best evidence. A protocol was formed by ranking evidence and considering university setting and students' preferences. We implemented this training protocol and evaluated its effects., Results: We achieved the three aims above. A total of 120 lay undergraduates received BLS training and retraining within 3 months. The students and teaching staff were satisfied with the training protocol and effect. The BLS training process was more clearly defined. Background: Radioresistance leads to treatment failure in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Thus, enhancing the radiosensitivity of NPC cells would likely increase the effectiveness of radiotherapy. Annexin VII (Annexin A7, ANXA7) might be a tumor promoter in NPC but its functions in radiosensitivity remain unclear., Methods: NPC cell lines CNE2-shANXA7 and CNE2-pLKO.1 were generated and CNE2-shANXA7 nude mice xenograft tumor models were established. The main effects and molecular mechanisms of ANXA7 knockdown in NPC radiosensitivity were studied in vitro and in vivo by analyzing cell viability, clonogenicity, apoptosis, cell cycle distribution, tumor radioresponse and immunohistochemistry assay., Results: ANXA7 knockdown revealed potentially enhanced NPC cell radiosensitivity via apoptosis and increased the cell number at the G2/M phase. In the xenograft model, NPC cells with ANXA7 knockdown were dramatically sensitive to irradiation and tumor growth was significantly suppressed. Compared to CNE2-pLKO.1 xenografts, CNE2-shANXA7 showed more γ-H2AX foci and less phospho-DNA PKcs., Conclusions: ANXA7 knockdown increased the radiosensitivity of NPC by enhancing apoptosis, modulating the cell cycle distribution into more radiosensitive phases, promoting DNA damage, and inhibiting repair. We showed that decreased ANXA7 levels enhanced radiosensitivity and provided insights into the therapeutic targets for NPC radiotherapy.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to perform an updated systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the clinical efficacy, safety, and cost-effectiveness of negative-pressure wound therapy (NPWT) in the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs)., Methods: We searched the Cochrane Library, MEDLINE, EMBASE, Ovid, and Chinese Biological Medicine databases up to June 30, 2016. We also manually searched the articles from reference lists of the retrieved articles, which used the NPWT system in studies of vacuum-assisted closure therapy. Studies were identified and selected, and two independent reviewers extracted data from the studies., Results: A total of eleven randomized controlled trials, which included a total of 1,044 patients, were selected from 691 identified studies. Compared with standard dressing changes, NPWT had a higher rate of complete healing of ulcers (relative risk, 1.48; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.24-1.76; P <0.001), shorter healing time (mean difference, -8.07; 95% CI: -13.70- -2.45; P =0.005), greater reduction in ulcer area (mean difference, 12.18; 95% CI: 8.50-15.86; P <0.00001), greater reduction in ulcer depth (mean difference, 40.82; 95% CI: 35.97-45.67; P <0.00001), fewer amputations (relative risk, 0.31; 95% CI: 0.15-0.62; P =0.001), and no effect on the incidence of treatment-related adverse effects (relative risk, 1.12; 95% CI: 0.66-1.89; P =0.68). Meanwhile, many analyses showed that the NPWT was more cost-effective than standard dressing changes., Conclusion: These results indicate that NPWT is efficacious, safe, and cost-effective in treating DFUs., Competing Interests: Disclosure The authors report no conflicts of interest in this work.

Mitochondrial transfer RNA (tRNA) mutation with high-salt stimulation can cause high blood pressure. However, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. In the present study, we examined the potential molecular mechanisms of cardiac damage caused by mitochondrial tRNA mutation with high-salt stimulation in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR). Unanesthetized, 44-wk-old, male, SHR were divided into four groups: SHR, SHR with high-salt stimulation for 8 wk (SHR + NaCl), SHR carrying tRNA mutations (SHR + M), and SHR + M with high-salt stimulation for 8 wk (SHR + M + NaCl). Healthy Wistar-Kyoto (WKY) rats were used as controls. Left ventricular mass and interventricular septum were highest in the SHR + M + NaCl group (P < 0.05), while ejection fraction was lowest in the SHR + M + NaCl group (P < 0.05). Hematoxylin and eosin staining showed myocardial cell hypertrophy with interstitial fibrosis and localized inflammatory cell infiltration, in the hypertensive groups, particularly in the SHR + M + NaCl group. Electron microscopy showed different degrees of mitochondrial cavitation in heart tissue of the hypertensive groups, which was highest in the SHR + M + NaCl group. In hypertensive animals, levels of reactive oxygen species were highest in the SHR + M + NaCl group (P < 0.05). Expression of the voltage-dependent anion channel (VDAC) and the apoptosis regulator Bax were highest in the SHR + M + NaCl group (P < 0.05), which also showed evidence of VDAC and Bax colocalization (P < 0.05). Overall, these data suggest that mitochondrial tRNA mutation with high-salt stimulation can aggravate cardiac damage, potentially because of increased expression and interaction between Bax and VDAC and increased reactive oxygen species formation and initiation of apoptosis., (Copyright © 2016 the American Physiological Society.)

The present study aimed to investigate the effect of sulfated polysaccharide-protein complex (SPPC) on the antitumor effect of doxorubicin (Dox) on MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells in vitro and in vivo . MTT and Annexin V/propidium iodide staining assays demonstrated that SPPC selectively sensitized MDA-MB-231 cells to Dox-induced cytotoxicity. The half maximal inhibitory concentration of Dox against MDA-MB-231 cells was decreased from 5.3 to 1.5 µM when it was used concomitantly with 5 µM SPPC. SPPC potentiated Dox-induced apoptosis in breast cancer cells via the mitochondrial apoptosis signaling pathway by activating caspase-3 and caspase-9. Notably, the caspase inhibitor Z-VAD-fmk diminished the effect of SPPC on Dox-mediated apoptosis. Furthermore, combination treatment with SPPC and Dox markedly reduced the growth of breast cancer xenografts in mice. The present study demonstrated that SPPC was able to enhance the antitumor effect of Dox on breast cancer cells, thus suggesting that SPCC may be used to reduce the cumulative dose of Dox and its associated toxicities in the chemotherapy of breast cancer and other types of cancer.

Aim: To investigate alternative splicing in vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGFA), amyloid beta precursor protein (APP), and Numb homolog (NUMB) in colorectal cancer (CRC)., Methods: Real-time quantitative reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism analyses were performed to detect the expression of VEGFA, APP, and NUMB mRNA in 20 CRC tissues and matched adjacent normal tissues, as well as their alternative splicing variants., Results: qRT-PCR analysis revealed that the expression of APP, NUMB, and VEGFA165b mRNA were significantly downregulated, while VEGFA mRNA was upregulated, in CRC tissues (all P < 0.05). PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis revealed that the expression of VEGFA165a/b in CRC tissues was significantly higher than in adjacent normal tissues (P < 0.05). Compared with adjacent normal tissues, the expression of NUMB-PRR(S) in CRC tissues was significantly decreased (P < 0.05), and the expression of NUMB-PRR(L) was increased (P < 0.05)., Conclusion: Alternative splicing of VEGFA, APP, and NUMB may regulate the development of CRC, and represent new targets for its diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment.

Aim: To compare the performance of whole-body PET/PET-CT with that of conventional imaging procedures for the overall assessment of distant metastasis in patients with breast cancer., Materials and Methods: The authors performed a meta-analysis of all available studies of whole-body PET/PET-CT compared with conventional imaging procedures. They calculated sensitivities, specificities, positive likelihood ratios, negative likelihood ratios, and constructed summary receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves using bivariate regression models for whole-body PET/PET-CT and conventional imaging procedures, respectively., Results: Across six studies (609 patients), sensitivity, specificity, positive likelihood ratios, and negative likelihood ratios of whole-body PET/PET-CT were 0.99 (95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.88-1.00), 0.95 (95% CI = 0.89-0.98), 21.1 (95% CI = 8.2-55.5), and 0.02 (95% CI = 0.001-0.13), respectively, and of conventional imaging procedures they were 0.57 (95% CI = 0.37-0.74), 0.88 (95% CI = 0.78-0.94), 4.8 (95% CI = 2.8-8.2) and 0.49 (95% CI = 0.33-0.74), respectively., Conclusion: Compared with conventional imaging procedures, whole-body PET/PET-CT had excellent diagnostic performance for distant metastasis staging in patients with breast cancer.

Aim: To investigate the effect of a high-fat diet in the formation of the precursors of colorectal cancer using an animal model., Methods: Wistar rats were divided into two groups that were fed either a high-fat diet (HFD) or a normal-fat diet (ND), and 1,2-dimethylhydrazine was administered at a dose of 40 mg/kg for 10 wk. The body weight/liver weight/epididymal fat weight were recorded after rats were sacrificed, and the formation of colonic adenoma was also observed. The levels of insulin, leptin, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-1 and triglycerides were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay in order to compare the altered levels of biochemical indices and inflammatory cytokines in the serum between rats fed an ND and HFD. Cell proliferation activity (Ki-67) was determined by immunohistochemical analysis. Western blot and immunofluorescence staining were used to examine the expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), cyclooxygenase (COX)-2, cyclin D1, β-catenin and nuclear factor (NF)-κB proteins in the adenoma and comparative control tissues., Results: The number of colonic adenomas and the colonic epithelial Ki-67 were significantly higher in the HFD group than in the ND group. The HFD group also had increased body weight, liver weight and epididymal fat weight, which were associated with increased levels of serum insulin, leptin, TNF-α, IGF-1 and triglycerides. HFD induced upregulation of PCNA, COX-2, cyclin D1, β-catenin and NF-κB proteins, as revealed by Western blot and immunofluorescence staining., Conclusion: HFD promotes the formation of colonic adenoma through inflammation, metabolic abnormalities, and increases cell cycle progression.

Solitary rectal ulcer syndrome (SRUS) is an uncommon benign disease, characterized by a combination of symptoms, clinical findings and histological abnormalities. Ulcers are only found in 40% of the patients; 20% of the patients have a solitary ulcer, and the rest of the lesions vary in shape and size, from hyperemic mucosa to broad-based polypoid. Men and women are affected equally, with a small predominance in women. SRUS has also been described in children and in the geriatric population. Clinical features include rectal bleeding, copious mucus discharge, prolonged excessive straining, perineal and abdominal pain, feeling of incomplete defecation, constipation, and rarely, rectal prolapse. This disease has well-described histopathological features such as obliteration of the lamina propria by fibrosis and smooth muscle fibers extending from a thickened muscularis mucosa to the lumen. Diffuse collage deposition in the lamina propria and abnormal smooth muscle fiber extensions are sensitive markers for differentiating SRUS from other conditions. However, the etiology remains obscure, and the condition is frequently associated with pelvic floor disorders. SRUS is difficult to treat, and various treatment strategies have been advocated, ranging from conservative management to a variety of surgical procedures. The aim of the present review is to summarize the clinical features, pathophysiology, diagnostic methods and treatment strategies associated with SRUS.

The amplification of a random single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) library by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is a key step in each round of aptamer selection by systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment (SELEX), but it can be impeded by the amplification of by-products due to the severely nonspecific hybridizations among various sequences in the PCR system. To amplify a random ssDNA library free from by-products, we developed a novel method termed single-primer-limited amplification (SPLA), which was initiated from the amplification of minus-stranded DNA (msDNA) of an ssDNA library with reverse primer limited to 5-fold molar quantity of the template, followed by the amplification of plus-stranded DNA (psDNA) of the msDNA with forward primer limited to 10-fold molar quantity of the template and recovery of psDNA by gel excision. We found that the amount of by-products increased with the increase of template amount and thermal cycle number. With the optimized template amount and thermal cycle, SPLA could amplify target ssDNA without detectable by-products and nonspecific products and could produce psDNA 16.1 times as much as that by asymmetric PCR. Background: The detection of serum tumor marker becomes a common method for screening tumors. However, this method has not been widely used for routine gastric cancer screening. In this study we aimed to determine whether the combined use of tumor markers may increase the sensitivity for the diagnosis of gastric cancer., Methods: Serum AFP, CEA, CA125 and CA19-9 levels were measured in 149 patients with gastric cancer, 111 patients with benign gastric diseases and 124 healthy people, who visited the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University from May 2011 to May 2012. Statistical analysis including receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, the area under the curve (AUC), and logistic regression analysis was performed to evaluate the diagnostic value of these markers on gastric cancer., Results: Serum levels of CEA, CA125, and CA19-9 in gastric cancer group were higher than that in the benign gastric disease group and the healthy control group (P <0.005). The sensitivity of AFP, CEA, CA125 and CA19-9 in the diagnosis of gastric cancer was 4.7-20.8% individually, and increased to 40.3% in combination. By using optimal cut-off value, the sensitivity of CEA, CA125, and CA19-9 for the diagnosis of gastric cancer was improved. Especially, the sensitivity of CEA increased to 58.4% and the sensitivity of combined use of four markers increased to 69.1%. The age and gender had no effects on the diagnostic value of these markers., Conclusions: The determination and application of optimal cut-off values based on ROC curve and logistic regression analysis could improve the diagnosis of gastric cancer based on common tumor markers.

The high incidence of gastric cancer and consequent mortality pose severe threats to human health. Early screening, diagnosis and treatment are the key to improve the prognosis of the patients with gastric cancer. Gastroscopy with biopsy is an efficient method for the diagnosis of early gastric cancer, but the associated discomfort and high cost make it difficult to be a routine method for screening gastric cancer. Serum tumor marker assay is a simple and practical method for detection of gastric cancer, but it is limited by poor sensitivity and specificity. Therefore, people have been looking for novel serum markers of gastric cancer in recent years. Here we review the novel serum tumor markers of gastric cancer and their diagnostic significance, focusing on the discoveries from serum proteomics analyses and epigenetics researches.

In the title complex, [Ni(C(12)H(9)N(2)O(3)S)(2)(H(2)O)(2)]·4H(2)O, the Ni(II) ion is coordinated by four N atoms from two bidentate chelating 4-[(pyridin-2-yl)methyl-idene-amino]-benzene-sulfonate ligands and two O atoms from cis-related water mol-ecules in a slightly distorted octa-hedral environment [Ni-N = 2.071 (3)-2.121 (3) Å and Ni-O = 2.071 (2) and 2.073 (3) Å]. In the crystal, the coordinated water mol-ecules and the four water mol-ecules of solvation are involved in inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions with water and sulfon-ate O-atom acceptors, giving a three-dimensional framework structure.

cDNAs of leaves of 24 pest-resistant cotton (authorization) crosses and their parents in full opening flower stages were amplified and different bands were displayed by DDRT-PCR, with 45 primer combinations. The mean percentage of bands duplicated was 70.1%, which implied that there was a high proportion of pseudopositive fragments in the amplified cDNA. These pseudopositive bands can be reduced using duplicate PCR. Correlation analysis between differential gene expression and hybrid performance and heterosis showed that M4 (bands detected in one parent and F1) was positively correlated with all yield traits, and significantly correlated with boll number; M2 (bands observed in one parent but not in F1 and another parent) was negatively correlated with heterosis of boll number; and M3 (bands observed only in F1) was positively correlated with heterosis of lint yield. These results showed that genes that had dominant and specific expression in top leaves of full opening flower stages were beneficial to yield formation and heterosis occurrence.
