In this study, we analyze the CSMA Non-Persistent protocol with a finite number of nodes, providing more accurate results for applications like wireless sensor networks. The finite model addresses scenarios where the node count is moderate, capturing realistic system dynamics. Our analysis reveals a dependency on the node count, impacting system throughput. As the node count increases, throughput behavior aligns with Kleinrock's infinite model. We derive a complex closed-form throughput expression for a finite quantity of nodes in the system, solved numerically, and offer an approximate expression for specific conditions. These insights advance understanding of low-contention network performance, especially in scenarios where the infinite model becomes inadequate.

The IoT devices placed in remote locations require a battery replacement very often, which is not a convenient option. Backscatter communication can resolve this problem, as backscatter communication is a data transmission in which an RF signal incident from the gateway is used for energy harvesting, and this energy will be employed for data transmission. In this paper, a hybrid contention-based TDMA scheme is proposed, which provides slots to devices by dividing them into groups, and then contention is employed in groups to acquire a slot; if a device is not able to transmit during harvest, then transmit (HTT) period, then it can transmit in variable sub frame and the devices which are not able to completely transmit during HTT period can reserve subframes. The proposed hybrid scheme is compared with the TDMA scheme for average transmission delay.The proposed scheme provides scalability. Slime mold algorithm (SMA) is a recently developed meta-heuristic algorithm that mimics the ability of a single-cell organism (slime mold) for finding the shortest paths between food centers to search or explore a better solution. It is noticed that entrapment in local minima is the most common problem of these meta-heuristic algorithms. Thus, to further enhance the exploitation phase of SMA, this paper introduces a novel chaotic algorithm in which sinusoidal chaotic function has been combined with the basic SMA. The resultant chaotic slime mold algorithm (CSMA) is applied to 23 extensively used standard test functions and 10 multidisciplinary design problems. To check the validity of the proposed algorithm, results of CSMA has been compared with other recently developed and well-known classical optimizers such as PSO, DE, SSA, MVO, GWO, DE, MFO, SCA, CS, TSA, PSO-DE, GA, HS, Ray and Sain, MBA, ACO, and MMA. Statistical results suggest that chaotic strategy facilitates SMA to provide better performance in terms of solution accuracy. The limited self-healing ability of cartilage necessitates the application of alternative tissue engineering strategies for repairing the damaged tissue and restoring its normal function. Compared to conventional tissue engineering strategies, three-dimensional (3D) printing offers a greater potential for developing tissue-engineered scaffolds. Herein, we prepared a novel photocrosslinked printable cartilage ink comprising of polyethylene glycol diacrylate (PEGDA), gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA), and chondroitin sulfate methacrylate (CSMA). The PEGDA-GelMA-CSMA scaffolds possessed favorable compressive elastic modulus and degradation rate. In vitro experiments showed good adhesion, proliferation, and F-actin and chondrogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) on the scaffolds. When the CSMA concentration was increased, the compressive elastic modulus, GAG production, and expression of F-actin and cartilage-specific genes (COL2, ACAN, SOX9, PRG4) were significantly improved while the osteogenic marker genes of COL1 and ALP were decreased. The findings of the study indicate that the 3D-printed PEGDA-GelMA-CSMA scaffolds possessed not only adequate mechanical strength but also maintained a suitable 3D microenvironment for differentiation, proliferation, and extracellular matrix production of BMSCs, which suggested this customizable 3D-printed PEGDA-GelMA-CSMA scaffold may have great potential for cartilage repair and regeneration in vivo.

Hydrogels based on photocrosslinkable Hyaluronic Acid Methacrylate (HAMA) and Chondroitin Sulfate Methacrylate (CSMA) are presently under investigation for tissue engineering applications. HAMA and CSMA gels offer tunable characteristics such as tailorable mechanical properties, swelling characteristics, and enzymatic degradability. This review gives an overview of the scientific literature published regarding the pre-clinical development of covalently crosslinked hydrogels that (partially) are based on HAMA and/or CSMA. Throughout the review, recommendations for the next steps in clinical translation of hydrogels based on HAMA or CSMA are made and potential pitfalls are defined. Specifically, a myriad of different synthetic routes to obtain polymerizable hyaluronic acid and chondroitin sulfate derivatives are described. The effects of important parameters such as degree of (meth)acrylation and molecular weight of the synthesized polymers on the formed hydrogels are discussed and useful analytical techniques for their characterization are summarized. Furthermore, the characteristics of the formed hydrogels including their enzymatic degradability are discussed. Finally, a summary of several recent applications of these hydrogels in applied fields such as cartilage and cardiac regeneration and advanced tissue modelling is presented., (Copyright © 2020 The Author(s). The demand for extensive data rates in dense-traffic wireless networks has expanded and needs proper controlling schemes. The fifth generation of mobile communications (5G) will accommodate these massive communications, such as massive Machine Type Communications (mMTC), which is considered to be one of its top services. To achieve optimal throughput, which is considered a mandatory quality of service (QoS) metric, the carrier sense multiple access (CSMA) transmission attempt rate needs optimization. As the gradient descent algorithms consume a long time to converge, an approximation technique that distributes a dense global network into local neighborhoods that are less complex than the global ones is presented in this paper. Newton's method of optimization was used to achieve fast convergence rates, thus, obtaining optimal throughput. The convergence rate depended only on the size of the local networks instead of global dense ones. Additionally, polynomial interpolation was used to estimate the average throughput of the network as a function of the number of nodes and target service rates. Three-dimensional planes of the average throughput were presented to give a profound description to network's performance. The fast convergence time of the proposed model and its lower complexity are more practical than the previous gradient descent algorithm.

Many Carrier Sense Multiple Access (CSMA) and Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) based medium access control (MAC) protocols for vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) have been proposed recently. Contrary to the common perception that they are competitors, we argue that the underlying strategies used in these MAC protocols are complementary. Based on this insight, we design CTMAC, a MAC protocol that synthesizes existing strategies; namely, random accessing channel (used in CSMA-style protocols) and arbitral reserving channel (used in TDMA-based protocols). CTMAC swiftly changes its strategy according to the vehicle density, and its performance is better than the state-of-the-art protocols. We evaluate CTMAC using at-scale simulations. Our results show that CTMAC reduces the channel completion time and increases the network goodput by 45% for a wide range of application workloads and network settings.

TO-DCF, a new backoff scheme for 802.11, has the potential to significantly increase throughput in dense wireless LANs while also opportunistically favouring nodes with heavier traffic loads and/or better channel conditions. In this paper we present an analytical model to investigate the behaviour and performance of the TO-DCF protocol with regards to operating parameters such as the number of nodes, the contention window size and the backoff countdown probabilities. We then compare numerical results from an implementation of our model with simulations. Our model shows a high level of accuracy, even when the model assumptions are relaxed, and provides guidance for network operators to correctly configure the weight functions for nodes running TO-DCF given the network's operating conditions.

Backoff-free fragment retransmission (BFFR) scheme enhances the performance of legacy MAC layer fragmentation by eliminating contention overhead. The eliminated overhead is the result of backoff executed before a retransmission attempt is made when fragment transmission failure occurs within a fragment burst. This paper provides a mathematical analysis of BFFR energy efficiency and further assesses, by means of simulations, the energy efficiency, throughput and delay obtained when BFFR is used. The validity of the new scheme is evaluated in different scenarios namely, constant bit rate traffic, realistic bursty internet traffic, node mobility, rigid and elastic flows and their combinations at different traffic loads. We also evaluate and discuss the impact of BFFR on MAC fairness when the number of nodes is varied from 4 to 10. It is shown that BFFR has advantages over legacy MAC fragmentation scheme in all the scenarios.
