Soil salinization has been considered as a major environmental threat to plant growth. Different types of salt in saline soil have different effects on germination and seedling growth. Effect of NaCl on germination and seedling establishment in Suaeda liaotungensis have been reported, but its response to alkali stress remains unclear. Our results showed that brown seeds had higher germination rate, however, black seeds had higher germination recovery percentage under alkali stress. Na 2 CO 3 had stronger inhibitory effect on germination and seedling growth than NaHCO 3 . As the concentration of alkali stress increased, the ROS level of brown seeds gradually ascended, while that of black seeds decreased first and then ascended. MDA content of dimorphic seeds significantly increased under alkali stress. The trend of SOD, POD and CAT activity between dimorphic seeds was similar under the same type of alkali stress. Alkali stress enhanced proline content of dimorphic seeds, and dimorphic seeds in NaHCO 3 solution had higher proline content than Na 2 CO 3 solution. Moreover, radicle and shoot tolerance indexes of seedlings in NaHCO 3 solution were significantly higher than that of Na 2 CO 3 solution. Under strong alkali stress, seedlings in NaHCO 3 solution had significantly lower ROS level and MDA content as well as higher antioxidant enzyme activity than Na 2 CO 3 solution. Background: The salivary glands are susceptible to both endogenous and exogenous influences, potentially resulting in the development of oncology. With the wide application of various technologies, research in this area has experienced rapid growth. Therefore, researchers must identify and characterize the current research hot topics to grasp the forefront of developments in the dynamic field of salivary gland oncology. The objective of this study was to thoroughly assess the current status and identify potential future research directions in salivary gland oncology., Methods: The relevant salivary gland oncology dataset was obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) database. Subsequently, VoSviewer and CiteSpace were employed for further evaluation., Results: A total of 9,695 manuscripts were extracted and downloaded from the WOSCC database. Our findings revealed a substantial surge in research volume over the past 12 years. The researchers' analysis revealed that Abbas Agami showed unparalleled dedication, with over 180 publications, and that RH Spiro had the highest cocitation count, confirming its status as a key figure in the field. The detection of bursts in secretory carcinoma and the integration of artificial intelligence in salivary oncology have attracted increasing interest. Notably, there is a discernible trend towards increased research engagement in the study of salivary gland malignancies., Conclusions: This study not only evaluated the current research landscape in salivary gland oncology but also anticipates future trends. Rehabilitation robots can reproduce the rehabilitation movements of therapists by designed rehabilitation robot control methods to achieve the goal of training the patients' motion abilities. This paper proposes an impedance sliding-mode control method based on stiffness-scheduled law for the rehabilitation robot, which can be applied to rehabilitation training with both active and passive modes. A free-model-based sliding-mode control strategy is developed to avoid model dependence and reduce the system uncertainty caused by limb shaking. Additionally, the stiffness scheduling rule automatically regulates the impedance parameter of the rehabilitation robot based on the force exerted by the patient on the robot such that the rehabilitation training caters to the patient's health condition. The proposed method is compared with the fixed stiffness and variable stiffness impedance methods, and the superiority of the proposed method is proved. Background: Inflammation is one of the significant consequences of ox-LDL-induced endothelial cell (EC) dysfunction. The senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP) is a critical source of inflammation factors. However, the molecular mechanism by which the SASP is regulated in ECs under ox-LDL conditions remains unknown., Results: The level of SASP was increased in ox-LDL-treated ECs, which could be augmented by KLF4 knockdown whereas restored by KLF4 knock-in. Furthermore, we found that KLF4 directly promoted PDGFRA transcription and confirmed the central role of the NAPMT/mitochondrial ROS pathway in KLF4/PDGFRA-mediated inhibition of SASP. Animal experiments showed a higher SASP HFD-fed mice, compared with normal feed (ND)-fed mice, and the endothelium of EC-specific KLF4-/- mice exhibited a higher proportion of SA-β-gal-positive cells and lower PDGFRA/NAMPT expression., Conclusions: Our results revealed that KLF4 inhibits the SASP of endothelial cells under ox-LDL conditions through the PDGFRA/NAMPT/mitochondrial ROS., Methods: Ox-LDL-treated ECs and HFD-fed mice were used as endothelial senescence models in vitro and in vivo . Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are inflammatory triggers and belong to a family of pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) that are central to the regulation of host protective adaptive immune responses. Activation of TLRs in innate immune myeloid cells directs lymphocytes to produce the most appropriate effector responses to eliminate infection and maintain homeostasis of the body's internal environment. Inappropriate TLR stimulation can lead to the development of general autoimmune diseases as well as chronic and acute inflammation, and even cancer. Therefore, TLRs are expected to be targets for therapeutic treatment of inflammation-related diseases, autoimmune diseases, microbial infections, and human cancers. This review summarizes the recent discoveries in the molecular and structural biology of TLRs. Background: The effects of glycemic status on coronary physiology have not been well evaluated. This study aimed to investigate changes in coronary physiology by using angiographic quantitative flow ratio (QFR), and their relationships with diabetes mellitus (DM) and glycemic control status., Methods: This retrospective cohort study included 530 patients who underwent serial coronary angiography (CAG) measurements between January 2016 and December 2021 at Tongji Hospital of Tongji University. Based on baseline and follow-up angiograms, 3-vessel QFR (3V-QFR) measurements were performed. Functional progression of coronary artery disease (CAD) was defined as a change in 3V-QFR (Δ3V-QFR = 3V-QFR follow-up - 3V-QFR baseline ) ≤-0.05. Univariable and multivariable logistic regression analyses were applied to identify the independent predictors of coronary functional progression. Subgroup analysis according to diabetic status was performed., Results: During a median interval of 12.1 (10.6, 14.3) months between the two QFR measurements, functional progression was observed in 169 (31.9%) patients. Follow-up glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) was predictive of coronary functional progression with an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.599 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.546-0.651; P<0.001] in the entire population. Additionally, the Δ3V-QFR values were significantly lower in diabetic patients with HbA1c ≥7.0% compared to those with well-controlled HbA1c or non-diabetic patients [-0.03 (-0.09, 0) vs. -0.02 (-0.05, 0.01) vs. -0.02 (-0.05, 0.02); P=0.002]. In a fully adjusted multivariable logistics analysis, higher follow-up HbA1c levels were independently associated with progression in 3V-QFR [odds ratio (OR), 1.263; 95% CI: 1.078-1.479; P=0.004]. Electrochemical urea oxidation reaction (UOR) suffers from sluggish reaction kinetics due to its complex 6-electron transfer processes combined with conversion of complicated intermediates, severely retarding the overall energy conversion efficiency. Herein, manganese-doped nickel phosphide nanosheets (Mn-Ni 2 P) are constructed and employed for driving UOR. Comprehensive analysis deciphers that Mn doping could efficiently accelerate the surface reconstruction of Mn-Ni 2 P electrode, generating highly reactive NiOOH-MnOOH heterostructure with local nucleophilic and electrophilic regions. Such unique structure could accelerate the targeted adsorption and activation of C and N atoms, promoting fracture of CN bond in urea. In addition, moderate Mn doping could efficiently enhance the adsorption capacities of urea molecules and some key intermediates, and minish the energy barrier for *CO 2 desorption, accelerating refreshing of the catalyst. Background: One-third of intractable epilepsy patients have no visually identifiable focus for neurosurgery based on imaging tests [magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-negative cases]. Stereo-electroencephalography-guided radio-frequency thermocoagulation (SEEG-guided RF-TC) is utilized in the clinical treatment of epilepsy to lower the incidence of complications post-open surgery., Objective: This study aimed to identify prognostic factors and long-term seizure outcomes in SEEG-guided RF-TC for patients with MRI-negative epilepsy., Design: This was a single-center retrospective cohort study., Methods: We included 30 patients who had undergone SEEG-guided RF-TC at Sanbo Brain Hospital, Capital Medical University, from April 2015 to December 2019. The probability of remaining seizure-free and the plotted survival curves were analyzed. Prognostic factors were analyzed using log-rank tests in univariate analysis and the Cox regression model in multivariate analysis., Results: With a mean time of 31.07 ± 2.64 months (median 30.00, interquartile range: 18.00-40.00 months), 11 out of 30 patients (36.7%) were classified as International League Against Epilepsy class 1 in the last follow-up. The mean time of remaining seizure-free was 21.33 ± 4.55 months [95% confidence interval (CI) 12.41-30.25], and the median time was 3.00 ± 0.54 months (95% CI 1.94-4.06). Despite falling in the initial year, the probability of remaining seizure-free gradually stabilizes in the subsequent years. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of autofluorescence technology on postoperative parathyroid function and short-term outcomes in patients undergoing thyroid surgery., Methods: A total of 546 patients were included in the study, with 287 in the conventional treatment group and 259 in the autofluorescence group. Both groups underwent central lymph node dissection, which is known to affect parathyroid function. Short-term outcomes, including rates of postoperative hypocalcemia and parathyroid dysfunction, serum calcium and PTH levels on the first postoperative day, as well as the need for calcium supplementation, were analyzed. A multivariable analysis was also conducted to assess the impact of autofluorescence on postoperative parathyroid dysfunction, considering factors such as age, BMI, and preoperative calcium levels., Results: The autofluorescence group demonstrated significantly lower rates of postoperative hypocalcemia and parathyroid dysfunction compared to the conventional treatment group. The autofluorescence group also had better serum calcium and PTH levels on the first postoperative day, and a reduced need for calcium supplementation. Surprisingly, the use of autofluorescence technology did not prolong surgical time; instead, it led to a shorter hospitalization duration. The multivariable analysis showed that autofluorescence significantly reduced the risk of postoperative parathyroid dysfunction, while factors such as age, BMI, and preoperative calcium levels did not show a significant correlation., Conclusion: This study provides evidence that autofluorescence technology can improve the preservation of parathyroid function during thyroid surgery, leading to better short-term outcomes and reduced postoperative complications. The findings highlight the potential of autofluorescence as a valuable tool in the management of parathyroid hypofunction. Background: Although the long-term prognosis of papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) is favorable, distant metastasis significantly compromises the prognosis and quality of life for patients with PTC. The Cadherin family plays a pivotal role in tumor metastasis; however, the involvement of Cadherin 4 (CDH4) in the metastatic cascade remains elusive., Methods: The expression and subcellular localization of CDH4 were determined through immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and western blot analyses. The impact of CDH4 on cell migration, invasion, angiogenesis, and metastasis was assessed using transwell assays, tube formation assays, and animal experiments. Immunoprecipitation assay and mass spectrometry were employed to examine protein associations. The influence of CDH4 on the subcellular expression of β-catenin and active β-catenin was investigated via western blotting and immunofluorescence. Protein stability and ubiquitination assay were employed to verify the impact of CDH4 on β-catenin degradation. Rescue experiments were performed to ensure the significance of CDH4 in regulating nuclear β-catenin signaling., Results: CDH4 was found to be significantly overexpressed in PTC tissues and predominantly localized in the cytoplasm. Furthermore, the overexpression of CDH4 in tumor tissues is associated with lymph node metastasis in PTC patients. Cytosolic CDH4 promoted the migration, invasion, and lung metastasis of PTC cells and stimulated the angiogenesis and tumorigenesis of PTC; however, this effect could be reversed by Tegavivint, an antagonist of β-catenin. Mechanistically, cytosolic CDH4 disrupted the interaction between β-catenin and β-TrCP1, consequently impeding the ubiquitination process of β-catenin and activating the nuclear β-catenin signaling., Conclusions: CDH4 induces PTC angiogenesis and metastasis via the inhibition of β-TrCP1-dependent ubiquitination of β-Catenin., (© 2024. Poly( N -isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) is capable of improving the reversibility and responsiveness of flexible electronics. However, its phase transition-induced volume variation and poor adhesiveness remain limitations for expending its applications. Herein, a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA), which is a type of mesh scaffold, is constructed inside the network of PNIPAM, providing the hydrogel with a constant volume in response to different temperatures, in situ tunable mechanical properties, and superior adhesiveness. The reversible density of the mesh scaffold adjusts the aggregation state of the hydrogel chains, whereupon it is capable of changing its mechanical modulus from 6.7 kPa to 45.3 kPa. This mechanical mechanism contributes to hydrogel-based flexible devices for multiple applications, especially in pressure-related sensors. The mesh scaffold restricts the phase-transition-induced volume variation, which allows the hydrogel sensor to stably monitor the external pressure at various temperatures. The high adhesion enables the effective interfacial interaction with the skin, avoiding the loss of sensing signals during the detection of human body movements. When it is assembled into an electronic device, it can transmit information and recognize sign language via Morse code. Thus, herein, we report a hydrogel sensor that is promising for pressure detection in temperature-unstable environments, especially for managing the health of patients who require emergency medical care through sign language recognition.

Mackinawite (FeS) has gained increasing interest due to its potential application in contaminant removal by either reduction or oxidation processes. This study further demonstrated the efficiency of FeS in degrading nitrobenzene (ArNO 2 ) via a sequential two-step reduction and oxidation process under neutral conditions. In the reduction stage, FeS rapidly reduced ArNO 2 to aniline (ArNH 2 ), with nitrosobenzene (ArNO) and phenylhydroxylamine (ArNHOH) serving as the intermediates. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis indicated that both Fe(II) and S(II) in FeS contributed electrons to the reduction of ArNO 2 . In the subsequent oxidation stage with oxygen, by addition of 0.5 mM tripolyphosphate (TPP), ArNH 2 generated in the reduction process could be effectively oxidized to aminophenols by hydroxyl radicals ( • OH), which would undergo eventual mineralization via ring-cleavage reactions. TPP exerted a favorable role in enhancing • OH production for ArNH 2 degradation by promoting the formation of the dissolved Fe(II)-TPP complex, thus enhancing the homogeneous Fenton reaction. Additionally, TPP adsorption inhibited the surface oxidation reactivity of FeS due to the change of Fe(II) coordination. Finally, the effective degradation of ArNO 2 by FeS in actual groundwater was demonstrated by using this sequential reduction and oxidation approach. These research findings provide a theoretical basis for a new FeS-based remediation approach, offering an alternative way for comprehensive removal of ArNO 2 .

Conductive hydrogels, exhibiting wide applications in electronic skins and soft wearable sensors, often require maturely regulating of the hydrogel mechanical properties to meet specific demands and work for a long-term or under extreme environment. However, in situ regulation of the mechanical properties of hydrogels is still a challenge, and regular conductive hydrogels will inevitably freeze at subzero temperature and easily dehydrate, which leads to a short service life. Herein, a novel adhesive hydrogel (PAA-Dopa-Zr 4+ ) capable of strain sensing is proposed with antifreezing, nondrying, strong surface adhesion, and tunable mechanical properties. 3,4-Dihydroxyphenyl-l-alanine (l-Dopa)-grafted poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) and Zr 4+ ion are introduced into the hydrogel, which broadly alters the mechanical properties via tuning the in situ aggregation state of polymer chains by ions based on the complexation effect. The catechol groups of l-Dopa and viscous glucose endow the hydrogel with high adhesiveness for skin and device interface (including humid and dry environments) and exhibit an outstanding temperature tolerance under extreme wide temperature spectrum (-35 to 65 °C) or long-lasting moisture retention (60 days). Furthermore, this PAA-Dopa-Zr 4+ can be assembled as a flexible strain-sensitive sensor to detect human motions based on specific mechanical properties requirements. This work, enabling superior adhesive and temperature tolerance performance and broad mechanical tenability, presents a new paradigm for numerous applications to wearable sensing and personalized healthcare monitoring.

Background and Aims: Donors with fatty livers are considered to address the shortage of livers for transplantation, but those livers are particularly sensitive to ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI), and an increased incidence of graft failure is observed. Kupffer cells account for 20-35% of liver nonparenchymal cells, and have been shown to participate in the process of IRI and inflammatory reactions of hepatic steatosis. NOD-like receptor thermal protein domain-associated protein 3 (NLRP3) is an intracellular sensor activated by Kupffer cells to promote generation and participates in IRI. Dynamics-associated protein 1 (Drp1) is one of the main proteins regulating mitochondrial division and exacerbates IRI by affecting mitochondrial dynamics. The mechanism of interaction of Kupffer cells with Drp1 and NLRP3 to aggravate IRI has not been clarified., Methods: A mouse model of hepatic steatosis was established by feeding the mice with a high-fat diet. In vitro experiments were performed using AML12 normal mouse liver cells and RAW264.7 mononuclear macrophage cells cultured in medium with palmitate and oleic acid. Western blotting and immunohistochemical (IHC) staining were used to detect the expression of NLRPP3 and Drp1 in IRI in the control and high-fat diet groups. The expression of F4/80+ cells during IRI in hepatic steatosis was verified by IHC staining, and the role of NLRPP3 and Drp1 in Kupffer-cell mediated IRI was investigated by targeting Drp-1 inhibition., Results: Drp1 and NLRP3 expression was increased during IRI in hepatic steatosis, and the expression of Drp1 and NLRP3 were decreased after the elimination of Kupffer cells. That indicated Kupffer cells were involved in the process of IRI in hepatic steatosis through the action of Drp1 and NLRP3. After Drp1 inhibition, liver function was restored and NLRP3 expression level was reduced., Conclusions: Kupffer cells aggravated IRI in hepatic steatosis via NLRP3 and Drp1. Oxidizing potential of FeS for organic contaminants degradation due to hydroxyl radicals (•OH) production has been recently documented, but the oxidizing efficiency was limited. Here, we revealed that low-molecular-weight organic acids (LMWOAs) can immensely enhance phenol degradation during FeS oxygenation due to increased utilization efficiency of FeS electron for •OH production. Upon oxygenation of 0.5 g/L FeS, phenol degradation boosted from 7.1% without LMWOAs to 91.5%, 84.6% and 95.0% with the addition of 1 mM oxalate, citrate and EDTA, respectively. Electron utilization efficiency of Fe(II) for •OH production dramatically rose from 0.3% with FeS alone to respective 2.0%, 2.5% and 2.7% in the LMWOAs systems. An increase in oxalate concentrations benefited •OH formation and phenol degradation. Coexisting oxalate led to an additional •OH production pathway from Fe(II)-oxalate oxidation, which expanded the O 2 reduction to H 2 O 2 from a two- to one-electron transfer process. Meanwhile, electron transfer from FeS to dissolved Fe(III)-oxalate promoted the redox cycling of Fe(III)/Fe(II), thus supplying the Fe(II) oxidation for •OH production. Moreover, the presence of oxalate decreased the crystallinity and particles size of lepidocrocite generated from FeS oxidation. A key computation in building adaptive internal models of the external world is to ascribe sensory signals to their likely cause(s), a process of causal inference (CI). CI is well studied within the framework of two-alternative forced-choice tasks, but less well understood within the cadre of naturalistic action-perception loops. Here, we examine the process of disambiguating retinal motion caused by self- and/or object-motion during closed-loop navigation. First, we derive a normative account specifying how observers ought to intercept hidden and moving targets given their belief about (i) whether retinal motion was caused by the target moving, and (ii) if so, with what velocity. Next, in line with the modelling results, we show that humans report targets as stationary and steer towards their initial rather than final position more often when they are themselves moving, suggesting a putative misattribution of object-motion to the self. Further, we predict that observers should misattribute retinal motion more often: (i) during passive rather than active self-motion (given the lack of an efference copy informing self-motion estimates in the former), and (ii) when targets are presented eccentrically rather than centrally (given that lateral self-motion flow vectors are larger at eccentric locations during forward self-motion). Results support both of these predictions. Lastly, analysis of eye movements show that, while initial saccades toward targets were largely accurate regardless of the self-motion condition, subsequent gaze pursuit was modulated by target velocity during object-only motion, but not during concurrent object- and self-motion. These results demonstrate CI within action-perception loops, and suggest a protracted temporal unfolding of the computations characterizing CI. The objective was to improve sarcopenia detection using structured data from EHR., Methods: Adults undergoing musculoskeletal testing (December 2017-March 2020) were classified as meeting sarcopenia thresholds for 0 (controls), ≥1 (Sarcopenia-1), or ≥2 (Sarcopenia-2) tests. Electronic health record diagnoses, medications, and laboratory testing were extracted from the Indiana Network for Patient Care. Five machine learning models were applied to EHR data for predicting sarcopenia., Results: Of 1304 participants, 1055 were controls, 249 met Sarcopenia-1 and 76 met Sarcopenia-2. Sarcopenic participants were older, with higher fat mass, Charlson Comorbidity Index, and more chronic diseases. All models performed better for Sarcopenia-2 than Sarcopenia-1. The top performing models for Sarcopenia-1 were Logistic Regression [area under the curve (AUC) 71.59 (95% confidence interval [CI], 71.51-71.66)] and Multi-Layer Perceptron [AUC 71.48 (95%CI, 71.00-71.97)]. The top performing models for Sarcopenia-2 were Logistic Regression [AUC 91.44 (95%CI, 91.28-91.60)] and Support Vector Machine [AUC 90.81 (95%CI, 88.41-93.20)]. For the best Logistic Regression Model, important sarcopenia predictors included diabetes mellitus, digestive system complaints, signs and symptoms involving the nervous, musculoskeletal and respiratory systems, metabolic disorders, and kidney or urinary tract disorders. Opioids, corticosteroids, and antihyperlipidemic drugs were also more common among sarcopenic participants., Conclusions: Applying machine learning models, sarcopenia can be predicted from structured data in EHR, which may be developed through future studies to facilitate large-scale early detection and intervention in clinical populations., (© The Author(s) 2023.)

Background: The risk of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is elevated in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and it is of great clinical value to identify potential molecular mechanisms and diagnostic markers of AMI associated with SLE by analyzing public database data and transcriptome sequencing data., Methods: AMI and SLE-related sequencing datasets GSE62646, GSE60993, GSE50772 and GSE81622 were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database and divided into prediction and validation cohorts. To identify the key genes associated with AMI related to SLE, WGCNA and DEGs analysis were performed for the prediction and validation cohorts, respectively. The related signaling pathways were identified by GO/KEGG enrichment analysis. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from patients with AMI were collected for transcriptome sequencing to validate the expression of key genes in patients with AMI. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression analysis was applied to screen diagnostic biomarkers. The diagnostic efficacy of biomarkers was validated by ROC analysis, and the CIBERSORTx platform was used to analyze the composition of immune cells in AMI and SLE., Results: A total of 108 genes closely related to AMI and SLE were identified in the prediction cohort, and GO/KEGG analysis showed significantly enriched signaling pathways. The results of differential analysis in validation cohort were consistent with them. By transcriptional sequencing of PBMCs from peripheral blood of AMI patients, combined with the results of prediction and validation cohort analysis, seven genes were finally screened out. LASSO analysis finally identifies DYSF, LRG1 and CSF3R as diagnostic biomarkers of SLE-related-AMI. Objectives: NUDT5 is the only discovered enzyme that catalyses ATP production in cell nuclei. In this study, we investigate the character of NUDT5 in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) cells under endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress., Methods: The formation of ER stress was confirmed in HNSCC cells using Real-time PCR and Western blot techniques. The expression of NUDT5 was modified by transfecting HNSCC cells with siRNA and plasmids, respectively. The effects of NUDT5 manipulation were assessed using various methods including cell counting kit-8 assay, western blotting, RNA sequencing, Immunofluorescence Microscopy analysis, cell cycle analysis and nucleic ATP measurement, and a xenograft mouse model., Results: In this study, we found that the expression of NUDT5 proteins was upregulated under ER stress conditions in HNSCC cells. Knocking down NUDT5 under ER stress could hinder nuclear ATP generation and thus induce more DNA damage and apoptosis of HNSCC cells. Only the wild-type NUDT5 or ATP catalysis active mutant T45A-NUDT5, rather than the ATP catalysis null mutant T45D-NUDT5, could directly rescue nuclear ATP depletion caused by NUDT5 inhibition and protect HNSCC cells from DNA damage and cell apoptosis. Finally, in vivo studies showed that knocking down NUDT5 in ER-stressed conditions could significantly inhibit tumour growth., Conclusion: Our study demonstrated for the first time that NUDT5 guaranteed the integrity of DNA under ER stress-triggered DNA damage by catalysing nuclear ATP production. The applications of three-dimensional materials combined with two-dimensional materials are attractive for constructing high-performance electronic and photoelectronic devices because of their remarkable electronic and optical properties. However, traditional preparation methods usually involve mechanical transfer, which has a complicated process and cannot avoid contamination. In this work, chemical vapor deposition was proposed to vertically synthesize self-assembly oriented hexagonal boron nitride on gallium nitride directly. The material composition, crystalline quality and orientation were investigated using multiple characterization methods. Thermal conductivity was found to be enhanced twofold in the h-BN incorporated sample by using the optothermal Raman technique. A vertical-ordered (VO)h-BN/GaN heterojunction photodetector was produced based on the synthesis. The photodetector exhibited a high ultraviolet photoresponsivity of up to 1970.7 mA/W, and detectivity up to 2.6 × 10 13 Jones, and was stable in harsh high temperature conditions. Our work provides a new synthesis method to prepare h-BN on GaN-based materials directly, and a novel vertically oriented structure of VO-h-BN/GaN heterojunction, which has great application potential in optoelectronic devices.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common malignant tumors of the digestive system worldwide, and there is a lack of effective treatment for late-stage HCC. Recent experimental studies have demonstrated that dysfunction of the intestinal flora has a significant impact on hepatocarcinogenesis. The pathophysiological link between the intestine, its microbiota, and the liver has been described as the "gut-liver axis". Dysbiosis of the intestinal flora and increased permeability of the intestinal wall are closely associated with liver pathology through the immune response. The "gut-liver axis" theory has been applied to the clinical study of the pathogenesis and treatment of HCC. The intestinal fungal community, as part of the gut microbiome, has a significant impact on human health and disease, while relatively little research has been done in HCC. In this study, we performed a comprehensive analysis of the expression and potential biological functions of the fungal recognition receptors C-type lectin receptors (CLRs) (Dectin-1, Dectin-2, Dectin-3, and Mincle) in HCC. We found that CLRs were downregulated in HCC, and their expressions were correlated with the clinical prognosis of HCC patients. Further studies suggested that the expression of CLRs were significantly correlated with immune infiltration and immunotherapy efficacy in HCC. Animal bile is an important component of natural medicine and is widely used in clinical treatment. However, it is easy to cause mixed applications during processing, resulting in uneven quality, which seriously affects and harms the interests and health of consumers. Bile acids are the major bioactive constituents of bile and contain a variety of isomeric constituents. Although the components are structurally similar, they exhibit different pharmacological activities. Identifying the characteristics of each animal bile is particularly important for processing and reuse. It is necessary to establish an accurate analysis method to distinguish different types of animal bile. We evaluated the biological activity of key feature markers from various animal bile samples. In this study, a strategy combining metabolomics and machine learning was used to compare the bile of three different animals, and four key markers were screened. Quantitative analysis of the key markers showed that the levels of Glycochenodeoxycholic acid (GCDCA) and Taurodeoxycholic acid (TDCA) were highest in pig bile; Glycocholic acid (GCA) and Cholic acid (CA) were the most abundant in bovine and sheep bile, respectively. In addition, four key feature markers significantly inhibited the production of NO in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 macrophage cells. In this study, a new enantioseparation method was established for the quantitative analysis of the oxypeucedanin enantiomers by using cellulose tris(3,5-dichlorophenyl carbamate) stationary phase column Chiralpak IC. For this method, enantiomeric separation of oxypeucedanin was achieved with the mobile phase consisting of acetonitrile-water (60:40, v/v) at a flow rate of 0.5 mL/min by changing the type and proportion of mobile phase. And the quantitative determination of racemic oxypeucedanin in Angelica Dahuricae Radix (in vitro) and rat plasma (in vivo) were performed on above-mentioned condition by High PerformanceLiquid Chromatography combined with diode arrangement detector (HPLC-DAD) and mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS). The precision, repeatability, stability, recovery were within the acceptance criteria. And the method was validated in the concentration range of 1-400 μg/mL for the two enantiomers in vitro and 0.2-600 ng/mL in vivo. After validation, the established method was successfully applied to the stereoselective analysis of racemic oxypeucedanin in Angelica dahurica from different regions and the stereoselective pharmacokinetic investigation in rat. Results showed that the (+)-oxypeucedanin was at a relative high level in Angelica dahuricae Radix and (-)-oxypeucedanin performed a higher plasma concentration, which demonstrated the difference of oxypeucedanin enantiomers both in vitro and in vivo., (Copyright © 2022 Elsevier B.V. Background and Aims: Transplantation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) derived from bone marrow (BM) is an alternative treatment of acute liver failure (ALF) mainly because of the resulting anti-inflammatory activity. It is not known how MSCs regulate local immune responses and liver regeneration. This study explored the effects of MSCs on hepatic macrophages and the Wnt signaling pathway in ALF., Methods: MSCs were isolated from BM aspirates of C57BL/6J mice, and transplanted in mice with ALF induced by D-galactosamine (D-Gal). The proliferation of hepatocytes was assayed by immunohistochemical (IHC) staining of Ki-67 and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA). The levels of key proteins in the Wnt signaling pathway were assayed by western blotting and cytokines were determined enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs). A macrophage polarization assay characterized the M1/M2 ratio. The potential role of interleukin-4 (IL-4) in the biological activity of MSCs was determined by silencing of IL-4., Results: Transplantation of allogeneic MSCs significantly attenuated D-Gal-induced hepatic inflammation and promoted liver regeneration. MSC transplantation significantly promoted a phenotypic switch from proinflamatory M1 macrophages to anti-inflammatory M2 macrophages, leading to significant Wnt-3a induction and activation of the Wnt signaling pathway in mice with D-Gal-induced ALF. Of the paracrine factors secreted by MSCs (G-CSF, IL-6, IL-1 beta, IL-4, and IL-17A), IL-4 was specifically induced following transplantation in the ALF model mice. The silencing of IL-4 significantly abrogated the phenotypic switch to M2 macrophages and the protective effects of MSCs in both the ALF model mice and a co-culture model in an IL-4 dependent manner., Conclusions: In vivo and in vitro studies showed that MSCs ameliorated ALF through an IL-4-dependent macrophage switch toward the M2 anti-inflammatory phenotype. Introduction: Pharmacological studies indicate that Astragalus (AR) has various bioactivities, including anticancer, antiaging, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and antioxidant activities. Flavonoids, saponins, amino acids, and polysaccharides are the main active components in AR. However, its complex chemical compositions bring certain difficulties to the analysis of this traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Therefore, there is an urgent need to establish a method for rapid classification and identification of the chemical constituents in AR., Objective: To establish a method for rapid classification and identification of the main components of flavonoids, saponins, and amino acids in AR., Methods: The samples were analysed with ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography time-of-flight quadrupole mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-TOF-MS) and data post-processing techniques. Firstly, fragmentation information was obtained in the positive and negative ion modes. Background: Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) can occur in patients with atherosclerotic disease, with or without plaque rupture. Previous studies have indicated a set of immune responses to plaque rupture. However, the specific circulating immune cell subsets that mediate inflammatory plaque rupture remain elusive., Methods: Ten AMI patients were enrolled in our study (five with and five without plaque rupture; plaque characteristics were identified by optical coherence tomography). By single-cell RNA sequencing, we analyzed the transcriptomic profile of peripheral blood mononuclear cells., Results: We identified 27 cell clusters among 82,550 cells, including monocytes, T cells, NK cells, B cells, megakaryocytes, and CD34 + cells. Classical and non-classical monocytes constitute the major inflammatory cell types, and pro-inflammatory genes such as CCL5, TLR7, and CX3CR1 were significantly upregulated in patients with plaque rupture, while the neutrophil activation and degranulation genes FPR2, MMP9, and CLEC4D were significantly expressed in the intermediate monocytes derived from patients without plaque rupture. We also found that CD4 + effector T cells may contribute to plaque rupture by producing a range of cytokines and inflammatory-related chemokines, while CD8 + effector T cells express more effector molecules in patients without plaque rupture, such as GZMB, GNLY, and PRF1, which may contribute to the progress of plaque erosion. Additionally, NK and B cells played a significant role in activating inflammatory cells and promoting chemokine production in the plaque rupture. Cell-cell communication elaborated characteristics in signaling pathways dominated by inflammatory activation of classical monocytes in patients with plaque rupture., Conclusions: Our studies demonstrate that the circulating immune cells of patients with plaque rupture exhibit highly pro-inflammatory characteristics, while plaque erosion is mainly associated with intermediate monocyte amplification, neutrophil activation, and degranulation. The interaction between small-molecule compounds of traditional Chinese medicine and their direct targets is the molecular initiation event, which is the key factor for toxicity efficacy. Psoralen, an active component of Fructus Psoraleae, is toxic to the liver and has various pharmacological properties. Although the mechanism of psoralen-induced hepatotoxicity has been studied, the direct target of psoralen remains unclear. Thus, the aim of this study was to discover direct targets of psoralen. To this end, we initially used proteomics based on drug affinity responsive target stability (DARTS) technology to identify the direct targets of psoralen. Next, we used surface plasmon resonance (SPR) analysis and verified the affinity effect of the 'component-target protein'. This method combines molecular docking technology to explore binding sites between small molecules and proteins. SPR and molecular docking confirmed that psoralen and tyrosine-protein kinase ABL1 could be stably combined. Based on the above experimental results, ABL1 is a potential direct target of psoralen-induced hepatotoxicity. Finally, the targets Nrf2 and mTOR, which are closely related to the hepatotoxicity caused by psoralen, were predicted by integrating proteomics and network pharmacology. The direct target ABL1 is located upstream of Nrf2 and mTOR, Nrf2 can influence the expression of mTOR by affecting the level of reactive oxygen species. Immunofluorescence experiments and western blot results showed that psoralen could affect ROS levels and downstream Nrf2 and mTOR protein changes, whereas the ABL1 inhibitor imatinib and ABL1 agonist DPH could enhance or inhibit this effect. In summary, we speculated that when psoralen causes hepatotoxicity, it acts on the direct target ABL1, resulting in a decrease in Nrf2 expression, an increase in ROS levels and a reduction in mTOR expression, which may cause cell death. We used a bibliometric analysis to analyze the publications of radiomics in oncology to clearly illustrate the current situation and future trends and encourage more researchers to participate in radiomics research in oncology., Methods: Publications for Photodynamic therapy in for head and neck cancer and potentially malignant disorders were downloaded from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). CiteSpace was used for a bibliometric analysis of countries, institutions, journals, authors, keywords, and references pertaining to this field. The state of research and areas of focus were analyzed through burst detection., Results: A total of 1002 studies were used for analysis on CiteSpace. The USA is in first place by number of publications. Hopper C, was the most prolific author, and the author with the most citations was Chen XY. Among the journals and the co-cited journals, "Photodiagnosis and Photodynamic Therapy" was the first. "Nanoparticle" showed the highest burst strength level and materials research is major area of focus in this field., Conclusions: This bibliometric analysis of photodynamic therapy in head and neck cancer, provides a visual analysis of publications in this field. The large overpotential and poor cycle stability caused by inactive redox reactions are tough challenges for lithium-oxygen batteries (LOBs). Here, a composite microsphere material comprising NiCo 2 O 4 @CeO 2 is synthesized via a hydrothermal approach followed by an annealing processing, which is acted as a high performance electrocatalyst for LOBs. The unique microstructured catalyst can provide enough catalytic surface to facilitate the barrier-free transport of oxygen as well as lithium ions. In addition, the special microsphere and porous nanoneedles structure can effectively accelerate electrolyte penetration and the reversible formation and decomposition process of Li 2 O 2 , while the introduction of CeO 2 can increase oxygen vacancies and optimize the electronic structure of NiCo 2 O 4 , thereby enhancing the electron transport of the whole electrode. This kind of catalytic cathode material can effectively reduce the overpotential to only 1.07 V with remarkable cycling stability of 400 loops under 500 mA g -1 . Based on the density functional theory calculations, the origin of the enhanced electrochemical performance of NiCo 2 O 4 @CeO 2 is clarified from the perspective of electronic structure and reaction kinetics. Nanoparticles for the gene therapy field have seen remarkable progress over the last 10 years; however, low delivery efficiency and other reasons impede the clinical translation of nanocarriers. Therefore, a summary of hotspots and trends in this field is needed to promote further research development. In this research, from 2011 to 2021, 1,221 full records and cited references of Web of Science-indexed manuscripts regarding nanoparticle-targeted delivery systems have been analyzed by CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and MapEquation. In these software, keywords co-occurrence networks, alluvial diagram, co-citation networks, and structural variation analysis were carried out to emphasize the scientific community's focus on nanomedicine of targeted delivering of nucleic acids. Keywords such as transfection efficiency, tumor cell, membrane antigen, and siRNA delivery were highlighted in the density map from VOSviewer. In addition, an alluvial flow diagram was constructed to detect changes in concepts. In the co-citation network, cluster 1 (exosomes) and cluster 17 (genome editing) were new research fields, and the efforts in modifying nanoparticles were revealed in the structural variation analysis. Aptamer and SELEX (systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment) represented a helpful system in targeted delivery. These results indicated that the transfection efficiency of nanocarriers required continuous improvements. With the approval of several nucleic acid drugs, a new content of nanoparticle carriers is to introduce gene-editing technology, especially CRISPR/Cas9 (clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats/CRISPR-associated protein 9). In addition, exosomes have great potential as targeted nanoparticles. Jizhi Syrup (JZS) is a popular Chinese patent medicine (CPM) for the treatment of respiratory diseases in clinical practice, especially acute or chronic bronchitis. JZS is a complex formula composed of 8 kinds of herbs and lack of comprehensive researches on chemical components. To further define its components, ultra-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole-time of flight-mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-TOF-MS) and headspace-solid phase microextraction-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HS-SPME-GC-MS) were utilized to identify and classify the chemical components of JZS. A total of 178 chemical compounds encompassing the 8 herbs of JZS were identified and the chemical components were comprehensively explicit. It made up for the gap that volatile components were not studied in the previous study. Based on this, a new method for the quality control of JZS based on its characteristic components was established by fingerprints, multi-component quantitative analysis and quantity transfer of JZS. A dual-wavelength high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) fingerprints were established at 210 nm and 260 nm. Four volatile components (linalool, bornyl acetate, 2-undecanone and α-terpineol) and eight nonvolatile components (ephedrine hydrochloride, protocatechuic acid, 5-caffeoylquinic acid, 4-hydroxybenzoic acid, naringin, neohesperidin, glycyrrhizic acid and praeruptorin A) were quantitated by HS-SPME-GC-MS and HPLC-diode array detection (DAD). Meanwhile, six exclusive nonvolatile components were studied for the quantity transfer of Herbs-Intermediate-CPM and all the transfer rates were between 55.23% and 89.20%. In the clinical application of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) substitutes, the consistency evaluation of TCM substitutes from different sources is recognized as the main bottleneck. As the most widely used analytical method in TCM consistency evaluation, fingerprint similarity evaluation suffers from insufficient method sensitivity and poor conformity with the actual characteristics of TCM, which is difficult to adapt to the analytical needs of complex substance systems of TCM. This work aims to develop an effective and more accurate method for consistency evaluation using omics strategy and machine learning algorithms. The natural calculus bovis (NCB) were graded into three groups according to the similarity to in vitro cultured bovis (IVCB), and chemical markers between samples of each grade were screened out. Support vector machine (SVM) models with different kernels were then constructed by using the chemical markers as feature variables. The results showed that the classification accuracy of the SVM classifier of NCB and the consistency evaluation SVM model classifier was 95.74% and 100.0%, respectively. Weikangling capsules (WKLCs), a Chinese patent medicine consisting of 8 Chinese drugs, have been widely used in clinic to treat gastrointestinal diseases for more than 30 years. The current "Chinese Pharmacopoeia" (2020 Edition, ChP2020) uses paeoniflorin content (≥ 1.0 mg per capsule) as the standard of quality control, but it is insufficient to evaluate the overall quality of WKLCs. An efficient and economic method for quality control is urgently needed to ensure the quality consistency and clinical effects of WKLCs. Herein, a systematic and reliable method for the rapid analysis of chemical components in WKLCs was established for the first time based on ultra-performance liquid chromatography/quadrupole-time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-TOF-MS). A total of 115 components covering 7 herbs in WKLCs were preliminarily identified by comparison with standard substances or literature. To evaluate the quality of 26 batches of WKLCs, a new method of fingerprinting combined with quantitative analysis was established, and 16 common peaks were selected to establish the fingerprint similarity model (similarity>0.90). Simultaneously, the contents of albiflorin, paeoniflorin, dactylorhin A, militarine, and glycyrrhizic acid were determined to be 0.82 ± 0.22, 2.09 ± 0.24, 1.15 ± 0.40, 3.73 ± 0.76 and 0.99 ± 0.20 mg/capsule, respectively. The transfer rates and dissolution curves of the five compounds were successfully detected in WKLCs, and the average transfer rates were 67.2%, 33.0%, 68.3%, 54.7%, and 33.7%, respectively. Notably, the dissolution profiles of different manufacturers presented remarkable differences in pH 1.2 hydrochloric acid solution. Objectives: To date, radiomics has been applied in oncology for over a decade and has shown great progress. We used a bibliometric analysis to analyze the publications of radiomics in oncology to clearly illustrate the current situation and future trends and encourage more researchers to participate in radiomics research in oncology., Methods: Publications for radiomics in oncology were downloaded from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). WoSCC data were collected, and CiteSpace was used for a bibliometric analysis of countries, institutions, journals, authors, keywords, and references pertaining to this field. The state of research and areas of focus were analyzed through burst detection., Results: A total of 7,199 pieces of literature concerning radiomics in oncology were analyzed on CiteSpace. The number of publications has undergone rapid growth and continues to increase. The USA and Chinese Academy of Sciences are found to be the most prolific country and institution, respectively. In terms of journals and co-cited journals, Scientific Reports is ranked highest with respect to the number of publications, and Radiology is ranked highest among co-cited journals. Moreover, Jie Tian has published the most publications, and Phillipe Lambin is the most cited author. A paper published by Gillies et al. presents the highest citation counts. Artificial intelligence (AI), segmentation methods, and the use of radiomics for classification and diagnosis in oncology are major areas of focus in this field. Background: Lower extremity arterial Doppler (LEAD) and duplex carotid ultrasound studies are used for the initial evaluation of peripheral arterial disease and carotid stenosis. However, intra- and inter-laboratory variability exists between interpreters, and other interpreter responsibilities can delay the timeliness of the report. To address these deficits, we examined whether machine learning algorithms could be used to classify these Doppler ultrasound studies., Methods: We developed a hierarchical deep learning model to classify aortoiliac, femoropopliteal, and trifurcation disease in LEAD ultrasound studies and a random forest machine learning algorithm to classify the amount of carotid stenosis from duplex carotid ultrasound studies using experienced physician interpretation in an active, credentialed vascular laboratory as the reference standard. Waveforms, pressures, flow velocities, and the presence of plaque were input into a hierarchal neural network. Artificial intelligence was developed to automate the interpretation of these LEAD and carotid duplex ultrasound studies. Statistical analysis was performed using the confusion matrix., Results: We extracted 5761 LEAD ultrasound studies from 2015 to 2017 and 18,650 duplex carotid ultrasound studies from 2016 to 2018 from the Indiana University Health system. The results showed the ability of artificial intelligence algorithms and method, with 97.0% accuracy for predicting normal cases, 88.2% accuracy for aortoiliac disease, 90.1% accuracy for femoropopliteal disease, and 90.5% accuracy for trifurcation disease. For internal carotid artery stenosis, the accuracy was 99.2% for predicting 0% to 49% stenosis, 100% for predicting 50% to 69% stenosis, 100% for predicting >70% stenosis, and 100% for predicting occlusion. For common carotid artery stenosis, the accuracy was 99.9% for predicting 0% to 49% stenosis, 100% for predicting 50% to 99% stenosis, and 100% for predicting occlusion., Conclusions: The machine learning models using LEAD data, with the collected blood pressure and waveform data, and duplex carotid ultrasound data with the flow velocities and the presence of plaque, showed that novel machine learning models are reliable in differentiating normal from diseased arterial systems and accurate in classifying the extent of vascular disease., (Copyright © 2021 Society for Vascular Surgery. Owing to their high energy density, lithium-oxygen batteries (LOBs) have been drawn great attention as one of the promising electrochemical energy sources. However, the sluggish kinetics of oxygen reduction/evolution reaction (ORR/OER) hamper the widespread application of LOBs. Herein, an elaborate designed catalysts which are constructed by FeN x moieties dispersed on the network-like hollow dodecahedral carbon and then decorated with Ru nanoparticles (FeN x -HDC@Ru). Since the homogeneously dispersed FeN x moieties could promote ORR performance, and the Ru nanoparticles could facilitate OER capability, the FeN x -HDC@Ru nanocomposites used as cathode catalysts can significantly improve LOBs performance. A lower discharge and charge overpotentials of 0.15 V and 0.78 V can be detected in the first cycle, respectively, and an excellent cycle performance of 90 cycles at 200 mA g -1 and 89 cycles at 500 mA g -1 can be demonstrated. Pure organic dye QAP-C8 based on quinacridone (QA) with octyl side chains as the donor and pyridine dicarboxylic acid (PDA) as the acceptor was first used in both the photoanode and the photocathode of photoelectrochemical cells. A tandem device with QAP-C8 as the photosensitizer realized overall water splitting and showed a STH of 0.11% under neutral pH conditions without an external bias.

Neck dissection for oral squamous-cell carcinoma (OSCC) is a clinically controversial issue and has therefore been the subject of abundant research. However, no one has performed a bibliometric study on this topic to date. The aim of this study was to assess the development of research on neck dissection for OSCC in terms of the historical evolution, current hotspots and future directions, particularly including research trends and frontiers from 2010 to 2019. Literature records related to research on neck dissection for OSCC were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). CiteSpace was used as a tool to perform a bibliometric analysis of this topic. The survey included 2 096 papers. "Otorhinolaryngology" was the most popular research area. The most active institutions and countries were Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and the USA, respectively. Shah J.P. was the most cited author. Among the six identified "core journals", Head & Neck ranked first. The top three trending keywords were 'invasion', 'upper aerodigestive' and 'negative neck'. 'D'Cruz AK (2015)' was the most cited and the strongest burst reference in the last decade. The study evaluated the effect on survival of elective versus therapeutic neck dissection in patients with lateralized early-stage OSCC. The depth of invasion and the management of N0 OSCC were research frontiers in this field. The present study provides a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of research on neck dissection for OSCC, which will assist investigators in exploring potential research directions.

Polymeric carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 ) has succeeded as a striking visible-light photocatalyst for solar-to-hydrogen energy conversion, owing to its economical attribute and high stability. However, due to the lack of sufficient solar-light absorption and rapid photo-generated carrier recombination, the photocatalytic activity of raw g-C 3 N 4 is still unsatisfactory. Herein, new intramolecular g-C 3 N 4 -based donor-acceptor (D-A) conjugated copolymers have been readily synthesized by a nucleophilic substitution/condensation reaction between urea and 3,7-dihydroxydibenzo[ b , d ]thiophene 5,5-dioxide (SO), which is strategically used to improve the photocatalytic hydrogen evolution performance. The experimental results demonstrate that CNSO- X not only improves light utilization, but also accelerates the spatial separation efficiency of the photogenerated electron-hole pairs and increases the wettability with the introduction of SO. In addition, the adsorption energy barrier of CNSO- X to H* has a significant reduction via theoretical calculation. As expected, the CNSO-20 realizes the best photocatalytic H 2 evolution activity of 251 μmol h -1 (50 mg photocatalyst, almost 8.5 times higher than that of pure CN) with an apparent quantum yield of 10.16% at 420 nm, which surpasses most strategies for the organic molecular copolymerization of carbon nitride. Patients face challenges in accurately interpreting their lab test results. To fulfill their knowledge gap, patients often turn to online resources, such as Community Question-Answering (CQA) sites, to seek meaningful information and support from their peers. Retrieving the most relevant information to patients' queries is important to help patients understand lab test results. However, few studies investigated the retrieval of lab test-related questions on CQA platforms. To address this research gap, we build and evaluate a system that automatically ranks questions about lab tests based on their similarity to a given question. The system is tested using diabetes-related questions collected from Yahoo! Answers' health section. Experimental results show that the regression-weighted combination of deep representations and shallow features was most effective in the Yahoo! Answers dataset. Background: Acute liver failure (ALF) is an acute inflammatory liver disease with high mortality. Previous preclinical and clinical trials have confirmed that mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) is a promising therapeutic approach; however, the effect is not satisfied as the underlying molecular mechanisms of MSC in treating ALF remain unclear., Methods: MSC isolated from 4- to 6-week-old C57BL/6 mice were used to treat ALF. Histological and serological parameters were analyzed to evaluate the efficacy of MSC. We explored the molecular mechanism of MSC in the treatment of ALF by detecting liver inflammatory response and hepatocyte death., Results: In this study, we found that the therapeutic potential of MSC on ALF is dependent on the secretion of prostaglandin E 2 (PGE 2 ), a bioactive lipid. MSC-derived PGE 2 inhibited TGF-β-activated kinase 1 (TAK1) signaling and NLRP3 inflammasome activation in liver macrophages to decrease the production of inflammatory cytokines. Meanwhile, macrophages in the liver could be induced to anti-inflammatory (M2) macrophages by MSC-derived PGE 2 via STAT6 and mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling, which then promote inflammatory resolution and limit liver injury. Finally, administrating EP4 antagonist significantly ameliorated the therapeutic ability of MSC, which promoted liver inflammation and decreased M2 macrophages., Conclusions: Our results indicate that PGE 2 might be a novel important mediator of MSC in treating ALF, which is through inhibiting the liver inflammatory response and hepatocyte death.

In recent years, the social web has been increasingly used for health information seeking, sharing, and subsequent health-related research. Women often use the Internet or social networking sites to seek information related to pregnancy in different stages. They may ask questions about birth control, trying to conceive, labor, or taking care of a newborn or baby. Classifying different types of questions about pregnancy information (e.g., before, during, and after pregnancy) can inform the design of social media and professional websites for pregnancy education and support. This research aims to investigate the attention mechanism built-in or added on top of the BERT model in classifying and annotating the pregnancy-related questions posted on a community Q&A site. We evaluated two BERT-based models and compared them against the traditional machine learning models for question classification. Most importantly, we investigated two attention mechanisms: the built-in self-attention mechanism of BERT and the additional attention layer on top of BERT for relevant term annotation. The classification performance showed that the BERT-based models worked better than the traditional models, and BERT with an additional attention layer can achieve higher overall precision than the basic BERT model. The results also showed that both attention mechanisms work differently on annotating relevant content, and they could serve as feature selection methods for text mining in general.

In this communication, a self-assembled supramolecular system consisting of phosphoric acid substituted perylene diimide (P-PMPDI) has been successfully developed for highly efficient photocatalytic hydrogen evolution. Compared with a carboxylic substituent perylene diimide (P-CMPDI), P-PMPDI showed a superior H2 evolution reaction rate of 11.7 mmol g-1 h-1 and a recorded apparent quantum yield (AQY) of 2.96% at 550 nm.

Objective: The diagnosis and treatment of insular and insulo-opercular epilepsy remain underexplored because the insula is covered by the insulo-opercular and a dense vascular curtain. Stereoelectro-encephalography (SEEG) is a reliable and recommended technique for locating the epileptic zone, especially in insular and insulo-opercular regions (Isnard et al., 2000, 2004). Bipolar electro-coagulation with cortextomy is an alternative therapy for treating drug-resistant epilepsy and is more convenient and less likely to cause adverse complications. We report 20 patients with insular and insulo-opercular epilepsy diagnosed through SEEG who underwent surgical treatment via bipolar electro-coagulation with cortextomy. The outcomes and findings are presented as a retrospective analysis (Cui et al., 2012; Zhai et al., 2015)., Method: We performed a retrospective analysis of 20 insular and insulo-opercular epilepsy patients. All patients involved in the analysis had undergone a comprehensive presurgical evaluation, including video electro-encephalographic recordings (at least 1 insultus), SEEG (at least 3 electrodes placed at insular depth), magnetic resonance imaging, positron emission tomography, and magneto-encephalography. All patients underwent bipolar electro-coagulation with cortextomy surgery. The follow-up time was over 24 months., Result: After bipolar electro-coagulation with cortextomy surgical treatment, 16 of the 20 patients (80.0%) were seizure free (Engel class I), and all patients achieved satisfactory seizure control (Engel class I-III) with a mean follow-up of 29.6 months (range, 24-39 months). Histopathological findings demonstrated focal cortical dysplasia in 14 patients (70.0%), neuro-damage in 3 patients (15.0%), ganglioglioma in 2 patients (10.0%), and gliosis in 1 patient (5.0%). Sixteen of the 20 patients reported no complications (80.0%), 3 exhibited temporary complications that recovered within 3 months (15.0%), and 1 patient experienced permanent complications (5.0%)., Significance: Bipolar electro-coagulation with cortextomy of the insular and insulo-opercular cortex explored by SEEG findings can be performed safely and resulted in satisfactory seizure control., (Copyright © 2018 Elsevier B.V.
