Background: Macrophages are key players in obesity-associated cardiovascular diseases, which are marked by inflammatory and immune alterations. However, the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying macrophage's role in obesity-induced cardiac inflammation are incompletely understood. Our study aimed to identify the key macrophage population involved in obesity-induced cardiac dysfunction and investigate the molecular mechanism that contributes to the inflammatory response., Methods: In this study, we used single-cell RNA-sequencing analysis of Cd45 + CD11b + F4/80 + cardiac macrophages to explore the heterogeneity of cardiac macrophages. The CCR2 + (C-C chemokine receptor 2) macrophages were specifically removed by a dual recombinase approach, and the macrophage CCR2 was deleted to investigate their functions. We also performed cleavage under target and tagmentation analysis, chromatin immunoprecipitation-polymerase chain reaction, luciferase assay, and macrophage-specific lentivirus transfection to define the impact of lysozyme C in macrophages on obesity-induced inflammation., Results: We find that the Ccr2 cluster undergoes a functional transition from homeostatic maintenance to proinflammation. Our data highlight specific changes in macrophage behavior during cardiac dysfunction under metabolic challenge. Consistently, inducible ablation of CCR2 + CX3CR1 + macrophages or selective deletion of macrophage CCR2 prevents obesity-induced cardiac dysfunction. At the mechanistic level, we demonstrate that the obesity-induced functional shift of CCR2-expressing macrophages is mediated by the CCR2/activating transcription factor 3/lysozyme 1/NF-κB (nuclear factor kappa B) signaling. Finally, we uncover a noncanonical role for lysozyme 1 as a transcription activator, binding to the RelA promoter, driving NF-κB signaling, and strongly promoting inflammation and cardiac dysfunction in obesity., Conclusions: Our findings suggest that lysozyme 1 may represent a potential target for the diagnosis of obesity-induced inflammation and the treatment of obesity-induced heart disease., Competing Interests: None.

This study aimed to assess the suitability of fermented food interventions to replenish damaged gut microbiota. Metagenomic assessment of published sequencing data found that fermented food interventions led to a significant increase in the gut antibiotic resistome in healthy human subjects. Antibiotic resistome and viable antibiotic-resistant (AR) bacteria were further highly prevalent in retail kimchi and artisan cheeses by metagenomic and culture analyses. Representative AR pathogens of importance in nosocomial infections, such as Klebsiella pneumoniae , Serratia marcescens , and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE), as well as commensals and lactic acid bacteria, were characterized; some exhibited an extremely high minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) against antibiotics of clinical significance. Exposing fermented food microbiota to representative antibiotics further led to a boost of the corresponding antibiotic and multidrug-resistance gene pools, as well as disturbed microbiota, including the rise of previously undetectable pathogens. These results revealed an underestimated public health risk associated with fermented food intervention at the current stage, particularly for susceptible populations with compromised gut integrity and immune functions seeking gut microbiota rescue. The findings call for productive intervention of foodborne AR via technology innovation and strategic movements to mitigate unnecessary, massive damages to the host gut microbiota due to orally administered or biliary excreted antibiotics.

Comparative phylogeographic studies of closely related species sharing co-distribution areas can elucidate the role of shared historical factors and environmental changes in shaping their phylogeographic pattern. The bean bugs, Riptortus pedestris and Riptortus linearis, which both inhabit subtropical regions in East Asia, are recognized as highly destructive soybean pests. Many previous studies have investigated the biological characteristics, pheromones, chemicals and control mechanisms of these two pests, but few studies have explored their phylogeographic patterns and underlying factors. In this study, we generated a double-digest restriction site-associated DNA sequencing (ddRAD-seq) dataset to investigate phylogeographic patterns and construct ecological niche models (ENM) for both Riptortus species. Our findings revealed similar niche occupancies and population genetic structures between the two species, with each comprising two phylogeographic lineages (i.e., the mainland China and the Indochina Peninsula clades) that diverged approximately 0.1 and 0.3 million years ago, respectively. This divergence likely resulted from the combined effects of temperatures variation and geographical barriers in the mountainous regions of Southwest China. Further demographic history and ENM analyses suggested that both pests underwent rapid expansion prior to the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM). Furthermore, ENM predicts a northward shift of both pests into new soybean-producing regions due to global warming. Insects depend on humoral immunity against intruders through the secretion of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) and immune effectors via NF-κB transcription factors, and their fitness is improved by gut bacterial microbiota. Although there are growing numbers of reports on noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) involving in immune responses against pathogens, comprehensive studies of ncRNA-AMP regulatory networks in Riptortus pedestris , which is one of the widely distributed pests in East Asia, are still not well understood under feeding environmental changes. The objective of this study employed the whole-transcriptome sequencing (WTS) to systematically identify the lncRNAs (long noncoding RNA) and circRNAs (circular RNA) and to obtain their differential expression from the R. pedestris gut under different feeding conditions. Functional annotation indicated that they were mainly enriched in various biological processes with the GO and KEGG databases, especially in immune signaling pathways. Five defensin (four novel members) and eleven lysozyme (nine novel members) family genes were identified and characterized from WTS data, and meanwhile, phylogenetic analysis confirmed their classification. Subsequently, the miRNA-mRNA interaction network of above two AMPs and lncRNA-involved ceRNA (competing endogenous RNA) regulatory network of one lysozyme were predicted and built based on bioinformatic prediction and calculation, and the expression patterns of differentially expressed (DE) defensins , and DE lysozymes and related DE ncRNAs were estimated and selected among all the comparison groups. Finally, to integrate the analyses of WTS and previous 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing, we conducted the Pearson correlation analysis to reveal the significantly positive or negative correlation between above DE AMPs and ncRNAs, as well as most changes in the gut bacterial microbiota at the genus level of R. pedestris . Numerous neuroimaging studies of resting-state functional imaging and voxel-based morphometry (VBM) have revealed abnormalities in specific brain regions in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), but results have been inconsistent. We conducted a whole-brain voxel-wise meta-analysis on resting-state functional imaging and VBM studies that investigated differences of functional activity and gray matter volume (GMV) between patients with OCD and healthy controls (HCs) using seed-based d mapping (SDM) software. A total of 41 independent studies (51 datasets) for resting-state functional imaging and 42 studies (46 datasets) for VBM were included by a systematic literature search. Overall, patients with OCD displayed increased spontaneous functional activity in the bilateral inferior frontal gyrus (IFG) (extending to the bilateral insula) and bilateral medial prefrontal cortex/anterior cingulate cortex (mPFC/ACC), as well as decreased spontaneous functional activity in the bilateral paracentral lobule, bilateral cerebellum, left caudate nucleus, left inferior parietal gyri, and right precuneus cortex. For the VBM meta-analysis, patients with OCD displayed increased GMV in the bilateral thalamus (extending to the bilateral cerebellum), right striatum, and decreased GMV in the bilateral mPFC/ACC and left IFG (extending to the left insula). The conjunction analyses found that the bilateral mPFC/ACC, left IFG (extending to the left insula) showed decreased GMV with increased intrinsic function in OCD patients compared to HCs. This meta-analysis demonstrated that OCD exhibits abnormalities in both function and structure in the bilateral mPFC/ACC, insula, and IFG. A few regions exhibited only functional or only structural abnormalities in OCD, such as the default mode network, striatum, sensorimotor areas, and cerebellum. It may provide useful insights for understanding the underlying pathophysiology of OCD and developing more targeted and efficacious treatment and intervention strategies., (© 2023. Insects possess complex and dynamic gut microbial system, which contributes to host nutrient absorption, reproduction, energy metabolism, and protection against stress. However, there are limited data on interactions of host-gut bacterial microbiota through miRNA (microRNA) regulation in a significant pest, Riptortus pedestris. Here, we performed the 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing and small RNA sequencing from the R. pedestris gut under three environmental conditions and antibiotic treatment, suggesting that we obtained a large amount of reads by assembly, filtration and quality control. The 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing results showed that the abundance and diversity of gut bacterial microbiota were significantly changed between antibiotic treatment and other groups, and they are involved in metabolism and biosynthesis-related function based on functional prediction. Furthermore, we identified different numbers of differentially expressed unigenes (DEGs) and differentially expressed miRNAs (DEMs) based on high-quality mappable reads, which were enriched in various immune-related pathways, including Toll-like receptor, RIG-I-like receptor, NOD-like receptor, JAK/STAT, PI3K/Akt, NF-κB, MAPK signaling pathways, and so forth, using GO and KEGG enrichment analysis. Later on, the identified miRNAs and their target genes in the R. pedestris gut were predicted and randomly selected to construct an interaction network. Finally, our study indicated that alterations in the gut bacterial microbiota are significantly positively or negatively associated with DEMs of the Toll/Imd signaling pathway with Pearson correlation analysis. The gut bacteria involves in insect homeostasis by playing essential roles in host physiology, metabolism, innate immunity, and so forth. microRNAs (miRNAs) are endogenous small noncoding RNAs that posttranscriptionally regulate gene expression to affect immune or metabolic processes in insects. For several non-model insects, the available knowledge on the relationship between changes in the gut bacteria and miRNA profiles is limited. In this study, we investigated the gut bacterial diversity, composition, and function from Altica viridicyanea feeding on normal- and antibiotic-treated host plants using 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing; antibiotics have been shown to affect the body weight and development time in A. viridicyanea , suggesting that the gut bacteria of the normal sample were more diverse and abundant than those of the antibiotic-fed group, and most of them were involved in various physical functions by enrichment analysis. Furthermore, we executed small RNA transcriptome sequencing using the two experimental groups to obtain numerous sRNAs, such as piRNAs, siRNAs, and known and novel miRNAs, by data mapping and quality control, and furthermore, a total of 224 miRNAs were identified as significantly differentially expressed miRNAs, of which some DEMs and their target genes participated in immune- and metabolism-related pathways based on GO and KEGG annotation. Besides, regarding the regulatory roles of miRNA and target genes, a interaction network of DEM-target gene pairs from eight immune- or metabolism-related signaling pathways were constructed. Finally, we discovered that DEMs from above pathways were significantly positively or negatively correlated with gut bacterial alterations following antibiotic treatment. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) play significant roles in the regulation of mRNA expression or in shaping the competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) network by targeting miRNA. The insect gut is one of the most important tissues due to direct contact with external pathogens and functions in the immune defense against pathogen infection through the innate immune system and symbionts, but there are limited observations on the role of the lncRNA-involved ceRNA network of the Toll/Imd pathway and correlation analysis between this network and bacterial microbiota in the Altica viridicyanea gut. In this research, we constructed and sequenced six RNA sequencing libraries using normal and antibiotic-reared samples, generating a total of 17,193 lncRNAs and 26,361 mRNAs from massive clean data by quality control and bioinformatic analysis. Furthermore, a set of 8,539 differentially expressed lncRNAs (DELs) and 13,263 differentially expressed mRNAs (DEMs), of which related to various immune signaling pathways, such as the Toll/Imd, JAK/STAT, NF-κB, and PI3K-Akt signaling pathways, were obtained between the two experimental groups in A. viridicyanea . In addition, numerous GO and KEGG enrichment analyses were used to annotate the DELs and their target genes. Moreover, six Toll family members and nineteen signal genes from the Toll/Imd signaling pathway were identified and characterized using online tools, and phylogenetic analyses of the above genes proved their classification. Next, a lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA network of the Toll/Imd pathway was built, and it contained different numbers of DEMs in this pathway and related DELs based on prediction and annotation. In addition, qRT-PCR validation and sequencing data were conducted to show the expression patterns of the above DELs and DEMs related to the Toll/Imd signaling pathway. Finally, the correlated investigations between DELs or DEMs of the Toll/Imd signaling pathway and most changes in the gut bacterial microbiota revealed significantly positive or negative relationships between them. Introduction: Numerous neuroimaging studies of resting-state functional imaging and voxel-based morphometry (VBM) have revealed that patients with substance use disorder (SUD) may present brain abnormalities, but their results were inconsistent. This multimodal neuroimaging meta-analysis aimed to estimate common and specific alterations in SUD patients by combining information from all available studies of spontaneous functional activity and gray matter volume (GMV)., Methods: A whole-brain meta-analysis on resting-state functional imaging and VBM studies was conducted using the Seed-based d Mapping with Permutation of Subject Images (SDM-PSI) software, followed by multimodal overlapping to comprehensively investigate function and structure of the brain in SUD., Results: In this meta-analysis, 39 independent studies with 47 datasets related to resting-state functional brain activity (1444 SUD patients; 1446 healthy controls [HCs]) were included, as well as 77 studies with 89 datasets for GMV (3457 SUD patients; 3774 HCs). Patients with SUD showed the decreased resting-state functional brain activity in the bilateral anterior cingulate cortex/medial prefrontal cortex (ACC/mPFC). For the VBM meta-analysis, patients with SUD showed the reduced GMV in the bilateral ACC/mPFC, insula, thalamus extending to striatum, and left sensorimotor cortex., Conclusions: This multimodal meta-analysis exhibited that SUD shows common impairment in both function and structure in the ACC/mPFC, suggesting that the deficits in functional and structural domains could be correlated together. Background: Numerous studies of resting-state functional imaging and voxel-based morphometry (VBM) have revealed differences in specific brain regions of patients with bipolar disorder (BD), but the results have been inconsistent., Methods: A whole-brain voxel-wise meta-analysis was conducted on resting-state functional imaging and VBM studies that compared differences between patients with BD and healthy controls using Seed-based d Mapping with Permutation of Subject Images software., Results: A systematic literature search identified 51 functional imaging studies (1842 BD and 2190 controls) and 83 VBM studies (2790 BD and 3690 controls). Overall, patients with BD displayed increased resting-state functional activity in the left middle frontal gyrus, right inferior frontal gyrus (IFG) extending to the right insula, right superior frontal gyrus and bilateral striatum, as well as decreased resting-state functional activity in the left middle temporal gyrus extending to the left superior temporal gyrus and post-central gyrus, left cerebellum, and bilateral precuneus. The meta-analysis of VBM showed that patients with BD displayed decreased VBM in the right IFG extending to the right insula, temporal pole and superior temporal gyrus, left superior temporal gyrus extending to the left insula, temporal pole, and IFG, anterior cingulate cortex, left superior frontal gyrus (medial prefrontal cortex), left thalamus, and right fusiform gyrus., Conclusions: The multimodal meta-analyses suggested that BD showed similar patterns of aberrant brain activity and structure in the insula extending to the temporal cortex, fronto-striatal-thalamic, and default-mode network regions, which provide useful insights for understanding the underlying pathophysiology of BD.

Background: Identifying brain similarities and differences between bipolar disorder (BD) and major depressive disorder (MDD) can help us better understand their pathophysiological mechanisms and develop more effective treatments. However, the features of whole-brain regional cerebral blood flow (CBF) and intrinsic functional connectivity (FC) underlying BD and MDD have not been directly compared., Methods: Eighty-eight unmedicated BD II depression patients, 95 unmedicated MDD patients, and 96 healthy controls (HCs) underwent three-dimensional arterial spin labeling (3D ASL) and resting-state functional MRI (rs-fMRI). The functional properties of whole brain CBF and seed-based resting-state FC further performed based on those regions with changed CBF were analyzed between the three groups., Results: The patients with BD and MDD showed commonly increased CBF in the left posterior lobe of the cerebellum and the left middle temporal gyrus (MTG) compared with HCs. The CBF of the left MTG was positively associated with 24-items Hamilton Depression Rating Scale scores in MDD patients. Decreased FC between the left posterior lobe of the cerebellum and the left inferior frontal gyrus (IFG) was observed only in patients with BD compared with HCs., Conclusion: Patients with BD and those with MDD shared common features of CBF in the posterior lobe of the cerebellum and the MTG. Holocene climate warming has dramatically altered biological diversity and distributions. Recent human-induced emissions of greenhouse gases will exacerbate global warming and thus induce threats to cold-adapted taxa. However, the impacts of this major climate change on transcontinental temperate species are still poorly understood. Here, we generated extensive genomic datasets for a water strider, Aquarius paludum, which was sampled across its entire distribution in Eurasia and used these datasets in combination with ecological niche modeling (ENM) to elucidate the influence of the Holocene and future climate warming on its population structure and demographic history. We found that A. paludum consisted of two phylogeographic lineages that diverged in the middle Pleistocene, which resulted in a "west-east component" genetic pattern that was probably triggered by Central Asia-Mongoxin aridification and Pleistocene glaciations. The diverged western and eastern lineages had a second contact in the Holocene, which shaped a temporary hybrid zone located at the boundary of the arid-semiarid regions of China. Future predictions detected a potentially novel northern corridor to connect the western and eastern populations, indicating west-east gene flow would possibly continue to intensify under future warming climate conditions. Further integrating phylogeographic and ENM analyses of multiple Eurasian temperate taxa based on published studies reinforced our findings on the "west-east component" genetic pattern and the predicted future northern corridor for A. paludum. Objectives: To detect the whole-brain reduced myelin density in unmedicated patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) using the inhomogeneous magnetization transfer (ihMT) imaging technology. Compared to other technologies, the ihMT provides high specificity and sensitivity to detect myelin., Method: In this prospective study, fifty unmedicated patients (mean age 25.36 years, 40% men) with MDD and 57 age- and sex-matched healthy controls (HCs) (mean age 25.02 years, 53% men) were recruited between January 2019 and December 2019. All participants underwent ihMT imaging, and pseudo-quantitative ihMT (qihMT) and ihMT ratio (ihMTR) were obtained. The mean values of qihMT and ihMTR extracted from the 50 WM masks (extracted from the International Consortium for Brain Mapping, ICBM-152) in each participant were compared between participants in the MDD and HCs groups. The symptoms of patients were evaluated using the 24-item Hamilton Depression Rating scale (HDRS)., Results: Compared with the HC group, the MDD group showed significantly decreased qihMT and ihMTR values in the left inferior fronto-occipital fasciculus (IFOF) (t = -4.057, p < 0.001; t = -3.662, p < 0.001) and the left uncinate fasciculus (UF) (t = -4.776, p < 0.001; t = -3.800, p < 0.001) after Bonferroni correction. The correlation analysis displayed a significant negative correlation between qihMT values of the left IFOF and HDRS total scores in patients with MDD (r = -0.390, p = 0.012)., Limitations: This was a cross-sectional study with a relative small sample., Conclusions: These findings suggest the reduced myelin density in the IFOF and UF in patients with MDD, which might be associated with the pathophysiology of MDD., (Copyright © 2021 Elsevier B.V. Background: Schizophrenia and bipolar disorder have been linked to alterations in the functional activity and grey matter volume of some brain areas, reflected in impaired regional homogeneity and aberrant voxel-based morphometry. However, because of variable findings and methods used across studies, identifying patterns of brain alteration in schizophrenia and bipolar disorder has been difficult., Methods: We conducted a meta-analysis of differences in regional homogeneity and voxel-based morphometry between patients and healthy controls for schizophrenia and bipolar disorder separately, using seed-based d mapping., Results: We included 45 publications on regional homogeneity (26 in schizophrenia and 19 in bipolar disorder) and 190 publications on voxel-based morphometry (120 in schizophrenia and 70 in bipolar disorder). Patients with schizophrenia showed increased regional homogeneity in the frontal cortex and striatum and the supplementary motor area; they showed decreased regional homogeneity in the insula, primary sensory cortex (visual and auditory cortices) and sensorimotor cortex. Patients with bipolar disorder showed increased regional homogeneity in the frontal cortex and striatum; they showed decreased regional homogeneity in the insula. Patients with schizophrenia showed decreased grey matter volume in the superior temporal gyrus, inferior frontal gyrus, cingulate cortex and cerebellum. Patients with bipolar disorder showed decreased grey matter volume in the insula, cingulate cortex, frontal cortex and thalamus. Overlap analysis showed that patients with schizophrenia displayed decreased regional homogeneity and grey matter volume in the left insula and left superior temporal gyrus; patients with bipolar disorder displayed decreased regional homogeneity and grey matter volume in the left insula., Limitations: The small sample size for our subgroup analysis (unmedicated versus medicated patients and substantial heterogeneity in the results for some regions could limit the interpretability and generalizability of the results., Conclusion: Patients with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder shared a common pattern of regional functional and structural alterations in the insula and frontal cortex. Introduction: The current outbreak of the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), originating from Wuhan (Hubei, China), has rapidly spread across China and several other countries. During the outbreak of COVID-19, mental health of the general population in Hubei province may be affected. This study aimed to assess the psychological status and associated risk factors of the general population in Hubei province during the COVID-19 outbreak. Methods: A cross-sectional online survey was used to evaluate the symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and anxiety, which were assessed by the Chinese version of the Impact of Event Scale-Revised, the Patient Health Questionnaire 9, and the seven-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale, respectively. Coping style was assessed by the Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was carried out to detect factors associated with mental health outcomes. Results: Among 9,225 participants, 44.5% rated symptoms of PTSD, and 17.9 and 12.7% suffered from moderate and severe symptoms of depression and anxiety, respectively. Individuals who were geographically located in Wuhan and familiar with someone who has COVID-19 had more severe symptoms of PTSD, depression, and anxiety, as well as a higher score in passive coping style ( P < 0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that people who were geographically located in Wuhan [odds ratio (OR) = 1.25, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.14-1.36, P < 0.001] were associated with severe symptoms of PTSD. Besides, individuals who were familiar with someone who had COVID-19 (OR = 2.33, 95% CI = 2.07-2.63, P < 0.001; OR = 1.90, 95% CI = 1.66-2.17, P < 0.001; OR = 2.06, 95% CI = 1.78-2.39, P < 0.001) and had a higher score in passive coping style (OR = 1.16, 95% CI = 1.14-1.17, P < 0.001; OR = 1.17, 95% CI = 1.15-1.19, P < 0.001; OR = 1.17, 95% CI = 1.15-1.19, P < 0.001) were associated with severe symptoms of PTSD, depression, and anxiety. Moreover, a higher score in active coping style (OR = 0.96, 95% CI = 0.95-0.97, P < 0.001; OR = 0.94, 95% CI = 0.93-0.94, P < 0.001; OR = 0.95, 95% CI = 0.94-0.96, P < 0.001) was associated with a lower risk of symptoms of PTSD, depression, and anxiety. Conclusions: During the midphase of COVID-19 outbreak, quite a few people have mental health problems; nearly half of the respondents rated symptoms of PTSD, and approximately one-fifth reported moderate to severe symptoms of anxiety and depression. The Manila clam (Ruditapes philippinarum), one of the major marine aquaculture species in China, is susceptible to infection with the pathogen Vibrio, which results in massive mortality and economic losses. Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are significant pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) of innate immunity that are involved in immune regulation against pathogenic invasion. Molecular characterization of Manila clam TLRs and investigations of their immune functions are essential to prevent and control Vibrio infection. In the present research, eight cDNA sequences of R. philippinarum TLRs (RpTLRs) were identified from previous transcriptome libraries and then classified into four groups, namely, P-TLR (one sequence), V-TLR (one sequence), Ls-TLR (two sequences) and sP-TLR (four sequences), based on the corresponding LRR domain arrangement of their protein structures within the typical TLR motifs. A selective pressure test firstly suggested that the molluscan P-TLR, V-TLR, Ls-TLR and sP-TLR families underwent positive selection, and different numbers of positive selection sites (PSSs) were identified in different domains of the four types of RpTLRs, as determined by PAML and analysis of website data. These findings indicated that the evolution of RpTLRs may be associated with their immune recognition and function. Furthermore, tissue-specific expression analysis showed that all RpTLRs were ubiquitously expressed in all test tissues and were dominant in hemocytes. Quantitative real-time PCR revealed that the cDNA expression of all eight RpTLRs was upregulated after injection with Vibrio anguillarum (P < 0.01) in R. philippinarum hemocytes, revealing that these RpTLRs play important roles in responding to pathogenic stimulation. Riptortus pedestris (Hemiptera: Alydidae) is a major agricultural pest in East Asia that causes considerable economic losses to the soybean crop each year. However, the molecular mechanisms governing the growth and development of R. pedestris have not been fully elucidated. In this study, the Illumina HiSeq6000 platform was employed to perform de novo transcriptome assembly and determine the gene expression profiles of this species across all developmental stages, including eggs, first-, second-, third-, fourth-, and fifth-instar nymphs, and adults. In this study, a total of 60,058 unigenes were assembled from numerous raw reads, exhibiting an N50 length of 2126 bp and an average length of 1199 bp, and the unigenes were annotated and classified with various databases, such as the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG), Clusters of Orthologous Groups (COG), and Gene Ontology (GO). Furthermore, various numbers of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were calculated through pairwise comparisons of all life stages, and some of these DEGs were associated with immunity, metabolism, and development by GO and KEGG enrichment. In addition, 35,158 simple sequence repeats (SSRs) and 715,604 potential single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were identified from the seven transcriptome libraries of R. pedestris . Finally, we identified and summarized ten wing formation-related signaling pathways, and the molecular properties and expression levels of five wing development-related genes were analyzed using quantitative real-time PCR for all developmental stages of R. pedestris . Taken together, the results of this study may establish a foundation for future research investigating developmental processes and wing formation in hemimetabolous insects and may provide valuable data for pest control efforts attempting to reduce the economic damage caused by this pest.

Rationale: Metastases of breast carcinoma to the main bronchus and choroid are rare, but have been reported in relevant literature. Late distant recurrence of breast carcinoma after more than 20 years is extremely rare. Herein, we report a 57-year-old woman with late distant recurrence and metastasis to the main bronchus and choroid almost 28 years after surgery., Patient Concerns: At the age of 29, the patient underwent chemotherapy and endocrine treatment after a right side mastectomy to remove breast carcinoma. The patient was hospitalized for a cough with blood-tinged sputum, dysphagia, and blurred vision in the left eye at the age of 57., Diagnoses: On evaluation, laboratory findings detected the elevated serum tumor markers of CA12-5, CA15-3, NSE, and Cyfra21-1. The imaging showed left lung metastase, multiple lymph node metastases, and small suspected metastases in the both sides of parietal lobes. Fundus fluorescein angiography showed choroidal occupying lesion of the left side which indicates secondary metastasis and retinal detachment. Combined with the pathological finding via fiberoptic bronchoscopic biopsy, the patient was clinically diagnosed with a late distant recurrence of breast carcinoma., Interventions: The patient received oral endocrine therapy of letrozole, but she refused chemotherapy, radiotherapy and other topical treatments., Outcomes: At the 3-month follow-up visit, the multiple lesions of the left lung and lymph nodes had partially regressed, and the lesion of right parietal lobe had disappeared. The patient's clinical symptoms, such as blood-tinged sputum and dysphagia, had significantly improved., Lessons: We have described this case and reviewed the relevant literature concerning late distant recurrence of breast carcinoma. Importantly, this case indicates that patients with HR positive breast carcinoma are more likely to develop late distant recurrence and clinicians should not ignore the follow-up examinations even more than 20 years after the surgery.
