Introduction: Brucellosis, which is among the endemic regions of Turkey, is a common zoonotic disease. The gold standard in diagnosing brucellosis is culture. We aimed to compare demographic characteristics, risk factors, and clinical and laboratory variables between cases with culture positivity and undetected in culture. Materials and Methods: This single-center study was conducted between January 2007 and April 2022. Clinical and laboratory data of patients with brucella growth in blood culture and patients without growth were compared. Results: A total of 150 patients were included in the study. The median age was 10 (1-18 years). Of the patients, 66 (44%) were female and 84 (56%) were male. Forty (26.7%) of the patients were bacteremic and 110 (73.3%) were nonbacteremic. In the bacteremic group, white blood cell count, platelet, and hemoglobin counts were lower, and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) values were higher. In clinical evaluation, fever, hepatomegaly, splenomegaly, and abdominal pain were more common in the bacteremic group. Conclusion: The distinction between bacteremic and nonbacteremic brucellosis can be predicted using laboratory values such as white blood cells, hemoglobin counts, platelet, ALT, and AST, and clinical findings such as fever, abdominal pain, hepatomegaly, and splenomegaly.

Introduction: The increasing incidence of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia ( S. maltophilia ) infections raises concern because of the high fatality/case ratio. This study aimed to evaluate the risk factors for infection and mortality associated with S. maltophilia bloodstream infections (BSIs) in children and compare them with Pseudomonas aeruginosa BSIs., Methods: All BSIs caused by S. maltophilia (n:73) and P. aeruginosa (n:80) were enrolled in this study between January 2014 and December 2021 at the Medical School of Ege University., Results: Previous Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) admission, prior glycopeptide, and carbapenem use were significantly more common in patients with S. maltophilia BSIs ( P = 0.044, P = 0.009, and P = 0.001, respectively) than with P. aeruginosa BSIs. C-reactive protein (CRP) levels were significantly higher in S. maltophilia BSIs ( P = 0.002). Multivariate analysis showed that prior carbapenem use was associated with S. maltophilia BSIs ( P = 0.014, adjusted odds ratio [AOR]: 2.710; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.225-5.992). PICU admission because of BSI, prior carbapenem and glycopeptide use, neutropenia, and thrombocytopenia were significantly more common in patients with mortality because of S. maltophilia BSIs ( P < 0.001, P = 0.010, P = 0.007, P = 0.008, P = 0.004, respectively), while only PICU admission because of BSI, and prior glycopeptide use were significant in multivariate analysis (AOR, 19.155; 95% CI: 2.337-157.018; P = 0.006 and AOR, 9.629; 95% CI: 1.053-88.013; P = 0.045, respectively)., Conclusion: Prior carbapenem use is a significant risk factor for developing S. maltophilia BSIs. PICU admission because of BSI and prior glycopeptide use are risk factors associated with the mortality rate in patients with S. maltophilia BSIs. Introduction: Health care workers (HCWs) are disproportionately exposed to infectious diseases and play a role in nosocomial transmission, making them a key demographic for vaccination. HCW vaccination rates are not optimal in many countries; hence, compulsory vaccination policies have been implemented in some countries. Although these policies are effective and necessary under certain conditions, resolving HCWs' hesitancies and misconceptions about vaccines is crucial. HCWs have the advantage of direct contact with patients; hence, they can respond to safety concerns, explain the benefits of vaccination, and counter antivaccine campaigns that escalate during pandemics, as has been observed with COVID-19., Method: A short survey was carried out in May-June 2020 on the vaccination status of HCWs working with pediatric patients with COVID-19. The survey inquired about their vaccination status (mumps/measles/rubella [MMR], varicella, influenza, and diphtheria/tetanus [dT]) and willingness to receive hypothetical future COVID-19 vaccines. The respondents were grouped according to gender, age, occupation, and region., Results: In total, 4927 HCWs responded to the survey. Most were young, healthy adults. The overall vaccination rates were 57.8% for dT in the past 10 years, 44.5% for MMR, 33.2% for varicella, and 13.5% for influenza. Vaccination rates were the highest among physicians. The majority of HCWs (81%) stated that they would be willing to receive COVID-19 vaccines., Conclusion: Although vaccination rates for well-established vaccines were low, a majority of HCWs were willing to receive COVID-19 vaccines when available. Education and administrative trust should be enhanced to increase vaccination rates among HCWs.

Background: Invasive Trichosporon infections are rarely seen opportunistic fungal infections in children and mainly affect immunocompromised patients. This multicenter retrospective study has rewieved the characteristics, risk factors, treatment modalities and outcomes of bloodstream infections caused by Trichosporon species in children diagnosed over the past ten years in Turkey., Methods: The study was performed with the participation of 12 of 55 hospitals invited from Turkey. In each center, the patients with bloodstream infections caused by Trichosporon spp. between January 2010 and December 2020 were retrospectively ascertained and the results were reported to the study coordinator by means of a simple case report. Data were collected on patient demographics, underlying condition(s), treatment of.infections caused by Trichosporon spp, and 7 and 30- day mortality rates., Results: A total of 28 cases with fungemia caused by Trichosporon spp. were included in the study. The most common underlying disease was paediatric cancers (39.3%). T. asahii infections were detected in 78.5 % (n=22) of patients. A various spectrum of antifungal treatment regimens were used including intravenous amphotericin B monotherapy in 35.7%, intravenous amphotericin B and voriconazole combination in 32.1% and intravenous voriconazole monotherapy in 28.6% of the patients. The overall mortality rate was 28.5 %. The mortality rates were 12.5% in the voricanozole, 30% in the amphotericin B and 33.3% in combined voriconazole -amphotericin B arms CONCLUSIONS: Invasive Trichosporon infections with an important impact of patients quality of life are almost related to underlying diseases with an overall mortality rate of 28.5%.
