Background: Insomnia disorder with objective short sleep duration (ISS) phenotype is a more serious biological subtype than insomnia with objective normal sleep duration (INS) phenotype, and the neuroimaging data is helpful to understand the pathophysiology of the ISS phenotype. This study was to compare the amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF), regional homogeneity (ReHo), and functional connectivity (FC) between the ISS phenotype and the INS phenotype., Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 55 patients with insomnia disorder were recruited, and 22 of them were defined as the ISS phenotype by the objective cardiopulmonary coupling (CPC) technique. The blood oxygen level-dependent (BOLD) sequences of all participants were obtained using the 3.0 T magnetic resonance imaging system. We analyzed and compared the ALFF, ReHo, and FC between the ISS phenotype and the INS phenotype. We also conducted Pearson's correlation analysis between significant neuroimaging biomarkers and the CPC parameters., Results: The differences were not significant in ALFF (P FWE-corr ＞0.05) or ReHo (P FWE-corr ＞0.05) between the ISS phenotype and the INS phenotype. For the FC analysis, the ISS phenotype had a Hub-node of the left inferior occipital gyrus (IOG.L), with significantly decreased connections (p＜0.001) in the bilateral occipital, parietal, and temporal regions. In the Hetao Basin, a grain-producing region plagued by naturally occurring arsenic (As) pollution, understanding the role of agricultural cultivation activities in mobilizing As in groundwater is worthwhile. Here we investigated the impact of cropland use characteristics on groundwater As hazards using a model that combines Random Forest (RF) classification with SHapley Additive exPlanation (SHAP). The analysis incorporated eight cropland use characteristics and three natural factors across 1258 groundwater samples as independent variables. Additionally, an optimized cropland use strategy to mitigate groundwater As hazards was proposed. The results revealed that crop cultivation area, especially within a 2500m-radius buffer around sampling points, most significantly influenced the probability of groundwater As concentrations exceeding an irrigation safety threshold of 50 μg/L, achieving an AUC of 0.86 for this prediction. The relative importance of crop areas on As hazards were as follows: sunflower > melon > wheat > maize. Specifically, a high proportion of sunflower area (>30%), particularly in regions with longer cropland irrigation history, tended to elevate groundwater As hazards. Conversely, its negative driving force on groundwater As hazards was more pronounced with the increase in the proportion of wheat area (>5%), in contrast to other crops. Transitioning from sunflower to wheat or melon cultivation in the northeast of the Hetao Basin may contribute to lower groundwater As hazards. When the particle size of energetic materials is reduced to the nanoscale, significant changes occur in their properties and behavior. In this work, compression processes of three RDX nanoparticles ( A , B , and C ) were simulated using ReaxFF-lg. The mechanical, structural, and energetic responses of RDX nanoparticles during compression were revealed and characterized. Simulations reveal that the compression process of the nanoparticles can be divided into three stages: elastic stage, primary damage stage, and sustained damage stage. The temperature increase rate in the elastic phase is much lower than in the primary damage phase. In addition, we found that the smaller nanoparticle B presents a smaller elastic modulus and compressive strength, and it has a slower rate of temperature increase during the primary damage phase. Compared to cuboidal nanoparticles ( A and B ), the spherical nanoparticle C tends to absorb less energy during the elastic stage and exhibits slower damage rate during the primary damage stage. This is a key factor contributing to the low sensitivity of spherical nanoparticles.

Topological edge state, a unique mode for manipulating electromagnetic waves (EMs), has been extensively studied in both fundamental and applied physics. Up to now, the work on topological edge states has focused on manipulating linearly polarized waves. Here, we realize chirality-dependent topological edge states in one-dimensional photonic crystals (1DPCs) to manipulate circularly polarized waves. By introducing the magneto-electric coupling term (chirality), the degeneracy Dirac point (DP) is opened in PCs with symmetric unit cells. The topological properties of the upper and lower bands are different in the cases of left circularly polarized (LCP) and right circularly polarized (RCP) waves by calculating the Zak phase. Moreover, mapping explicitly 1D Maxwell's equations to the Dirac equation, we demonstrate that the introduction of chirality can lead to different topological properties of bandgaps for RCP and LCP waves. Based on this chirality-dependent topology, we can further realize chirality-dependent topological edge states in photonic heterostructures composed of two kinds of PCs. Finally, we propose a realistic structure for the chirality-dependent topological edge states by placing metallic helixes in host media. Our work provides a method for manipulating topological edge states for circularly polarized waves, which has a broad range of potential applications in designing optical devices including polarizers, filters, and sensors with robustness against disorder.

Liposomes represent one of the most extensively studied nano-carriers due to their potential in targeted drug delivery. However, the complex in vivo fate, particularly under pathological conditions, presents challenges for clinical translation of liposomal therapeutics. Liver serves as the most important organ for liposome accumulation and metabolism. Unfortunately, the fate of liposomes under pathological liver conditions has been significantly overlooked. This study aimed to investigate the in vivo pharmacokinetic profile and biodistribution profile of liposomes under drug-induced liver injury (DILI) conditions. Two classic DILI animal models, i.e. acetaminophen-induced acute liver injury (AILI) and triptolide-induced subacute liver injury (TILI), were established to observe the effect of pathological liver conditions on the in vivo performance of liposomes. The study revealed significant changes in the in vivo fate of liposomes following DILI, including prolonged blood circulation and enhanced hepatic accumulation of liposomes. Changes in the composition of plasma proteins and mononuclear phagocyte system (MPS)-related cell subpopulations collectively led to the altered in vivo fate of liposomes under liver injury conditions. Despite liver injury, macrophages remained the primary cells responsible for liposomes uptake in liver, with the recruited monocyte-derived macrophages exhibiting enhanced ability to phagocytose liposomes under pathological conditions. Background: Gene expression profiles in breast tissue biopsies contain information related to chemotherapy efficacy. The promoter profiles in cell-free DNA (cfDNA) carrying gene expression information of the original tissues may be used to predict the response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in breast cancer as a non-invasive biomarker. In this study, the feasibility of the promoter profiles in plasma cfDNA was evaluated as a novel clinical model for noninvasively predicting the efficacy of neoadjuvant chemotherapy in breast cancer., Method: First of all, global chromatin (5 Mb windows), sub-compartments and promoter profiles in plasma cfDNA samples from 94 patients with breast cancer before neoadjuvant chemotherapy (pCR = 31 vs. non-pCR = 63) were analyzed, and then classifiers were developed for predicting the efficacy of neoadjuvant chemotherapy in breast cancer. Further, the promoter profile changes in sequential cfDNA samples from 30 patients (pCR = 8 vs. non-pCR = 22) during neoadjuvant chemotherapy were analyzed to explore the potential benefits of cfDNA promoter profile changes as a novel potential biomarker for predicting the treatment efficacy., Results: The results showed significantly distinct promoter profile in plasma cfDNA of pCR patients compared with non-pCR patients before neoadjuvant chemotherapy. The classifier based on promoter profiles in a Random Forest model produced the largest area under the curve of 0.980 (95% CI: 0.978-0.983). After neoadjuvant chemotherapy, 332 genes with significantly differential promoter profile changes in sequential cfDNA samples of pCR patients was observed, compared with non-pCR patients, and their functions were closely related to treatment response., Conclusion: These results suggest that promoter profiles in plasma cfDNA may be a powerful, non-invasive tool for predicting the efficacy of neoadjuvant chemotherapy breast cancer patients before treatment, and the on-treatment cfDNA promoter profiles have potential benefits for predicting the treatment efficacy., (© 2024. Background: Evidence has revealed a connection between cuproptosis and the inhibition of tumor angiogenesis. While the efficacy of a model based on cuproptosis-related genes (CRGs) in predicting the prognosis of peripheral organ tumors has been demonstrated, the impact of CRGs on the prognosis and the immunological landscape of gliomas remains unexplored., Methods: We screened CRGs to construct a novel scoring tool and developed a prognostic model for gliomas within the various cohorts. Afterward, a comprehensive exploration of the relationship between the CRG risk signature and the immunological landscape of gliomas was undertaken from multiple perspectives., Results: Five genes (NLRP3, ATP7B, SLC31A1, FDX1, and GCSH) were identified to build a CRG scoring system. The nomogram, based on CRG risk and other signatures, demonstrated a superior predictive performance (AUC of 0.89, 0.92, and 0.93 at 1, 2, and 3 years, respectively) in the training cohort. Furthermore, the CRG score was closely associated with various aspects of the immune landscape in gliomas, including immune cell infiltration, tumor mutations, tumor immune dysfunction and exclusion, immune checkpoints, cytotoxic T lymphocyte and immune exhaustion-related markers, as well as cancer signaling pathway biomarkers and cytokines., Conclusion: The CRG risk signature may serve as a robust biomarker for predicting the prognosis and the potential viability of immunotherapy responses. In recent years, data-driven remote medical management has received much attention, especially in application of survival time forecasting. By monitoring the physical characteristics indexes of patients, intelligent algorithms can be deployed to implement efficient healthcare management. However, such pure medical data-driven scenes generally lack multimedia information, which brings challenge to analysis tasks. To deal with this issue, this paper introduces the idea of ensemble deep learning to enhance feature representation ability, thus enhancing knowledge discovery in remote healthcare management. Therefore, a multiview deep learning-based efficient medical data management framework for survival time forecasting is proposed in this paper, which is named as "MDL-MDM" for short. Firstly, basic monitoring data for body indexes of patients is encoded, which serves as the data foundation for forecasting tasks. Then, three different neural network models, convolution neural network, graph attention network, and graph convolution network, are selected to build a hybrid computing framework. Their combination can bring a multiview feature learning framework to realize an efficient medical data management framework. In addition, experiments are conducted on a realistic medical dataset about cancer patients in the US. Results show that the proposal can predict survival time with 1% to 2% reduction in prediction error.

Background: The expression profiles of placental genes are crucial for understanding the pathogenesis of fetal development and placental-origin pregnancy syndromes. However, owing to ethical limitations and the risks of puncture sampling, it is difficult to obtain placental tissue samples repeatedly, continuously, multiple times, or in real time. Establishing a non-invasive method for predicting placental gene expression profiles through maternal plasma cell-free DNA (cfDNA) sequencing, which carries information about the source tissue and gene expression, can potentially solve this problem., Methods: Peripheral blood and placental samples were collected simultaneously from pregnant women who underwent cesarean section. Deep sequencing was performed on the separated plasma cfDNA and single-cell sequencing was performed on peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC), chorioamniotic membranes (CAM), placental villi (PV), and decidua basalis (DB). The aggregation of corresponding information for each gene was combined with the transcriptome of PBMCs and a differential resolution transcriptome of the placenta. This combined information was then utilized for the construction of gene expression prediction models. After training, all models evaluated the correlation between the predicted and actual gene expression levels using external test set data., Results: From five women, more than 20 million reads were obtained using deep sequencing for plasma cfDNA; PBMCs obtained 32,401 single-cell expression profiles; and placental tissue obtained 156,546 single-cell expression profiles (59,069, 44,921, and 52,556 for CAM, PV, and DB, respectively). The cells in the PBMC and placenta were clustered and annotated into five and eight cell types, respectively. A "DEPICT" gene expression prediction model was successfully constructed using deep neural networks. Purpose: From a clinical point of view, how to force a transition from insomnia brain state to healthy brain state by external driven stimulation is of great interest. This needs to define brain state of insomnia disorder as metastable substates. The current study was to identify recurrent substates of insomnia disorder in terms of probability of occurrence, lifetime, and alternation profiles by using leading eigenvector dynamics analysis (LEiDA) method., Methods: We enrolled 32 patients with insomnia disorder and 30 healthy subjects. We firstly obtained the BOLD phase coherence matrix from Hilbert transform of BOLD signals and then extracted all the leading eigenvectors from the BOLD phase coherence matrix for all subjects across all time points. Lastly, we clustered the leading eigenvectors using a k-means clustering algorithm to find the probabilistic metastable substates (PMS) and calculate the probability of occurrence and associated lifetime for substates., Results: The resulting 3 clusters were optimal for brain state of insomnia disorder and healthy brain state, respectively. The occurred probabilities of the PMS were significantly different between the patients with insomnia disorder and healthy subjects, with 0.51 versus 0.44 for PMS-1 (p < 0.001), 0.25 versus 0.27 for PMS-2 (p = 0.051), and 0.24 versus 0.29 for PMS-3 (p < 0.001), as well as the lifetime (in TR) of 36.65 versus 33.15 for PMS-1 (p = 0.068), 14.36 versus 15.43 for PMS-2 (p = 0.117), and 14.80 versus 16.34 for PMS-3 (p = 0.042). The values of the diagonal of the transition matrix were much higher than the probabilities of switching states, indicating the metastable nature of substates., Conclusion: The resulted probabilistic metastable substates hint the characteristic brain dynamics of insomnia disorder. In recent years, filamentous algae blooms and microplastics (MPs) pollution have become two major ecological and environmental problems in urban water systems. In order to solve these two problems at the same time, this study explored the loading capacity of MPs on fresh filamentous algae, and successfully synthesized magnetic filamentous algae biochar loading with Fe 3 O 4 by hydrothermal method, with the purpose of removing MPs from water. The magnetic filamentous algal biochar was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and so on. Experiments on adsorption kinetics, adsorption isotherms and optimum pH were carried out to explore the adsorption mechanism of MPs on magnetic filamentous algal biochar. The adsorption kinetics and adsorption isotherm models were evaluated, and the selection criterion for the appropriate model was determined by using the residual sum of squares (RSS) and Bayesian information criterion (BIC). Microscope images revealed that fresh filamentous algae could interact with MPs in the form of entanglement, adhesion and encapsulation. The average load of MPs in filamentous algae samples was 14.1 ± 5 items/g dry weight. The theoretical maximum adsorption capacities of polystyrene MPs (PS-MPs) by raw biochar (A500) and magnetic biochar with Fe 3 O 4 (M2A500) were 176.99 mg/g and 215.58 mg/g, respectively. The adsorbent materials gave better reusability because they could be reused up to five times. Covert speech (CS) refers to speaking internally to oneself without producing any sound or movement. CS is involved in multiple cognitive functions and disorders. Reconstructing CS content by brain-computer interface (BCI) is also an emerging technique. However, it is still controversial whether CS is a truncated neural process of overt speech (OS) or involves independent patterns. Here, we performed a word-speaking experiment with simultaneous EEG-fMRI. It involved 32 participants, who generated words both overtly and covertly. By integrating spatial constraints from fMRI into EEG source localization, we precisely estimated the spatiotemporal dynamics of neural activity. During CS, EEG source activity was localized in three regions: the left precentral gyrus, the left supplementary motor area, and the left putamen. Although OS involved more brain regions with stronger activations, CS was characterized by an earlier event-locked activation in the left putamen (peak at 262 ms versus 1170 ms). The left putamen was also identified as the only hub node within the functional connectivity (FC) networks of both OS and CS, while showing weaker FC strength towards speech-related regions in the dominant hemisphere during CS. Path analysis revealed significant multivariate associations, indicating an indirect association between the earlier activation in the left putamen and CS, which was mediated by reduced FC towards speech-related regions. Motivated by unique topological semimetals in condensed matter physics, we propose an effective Hamiltonian with four degrees of freedom to describe evolutions of photonic double Weyl nodal line semimetals in one-dimensional hyper-crystals, which supports the energy bands translating or rotating independently in the form of Weyl quasiparticles. Especially, owing to the unit cells without inversion symmetry, a pair of reflection-phase singularities carrying opposite topological charges emerge near each nodal line, and result in a unique bilateral drumhead surface state. After reducing radiation leakages and absorption losses, these two singularities gather together gradually, and form a quasi-bound state in the continuum (quasi-BIC) ring at the nodal line ultimately. Our work not only reports the first realization of controllable photonics Weyl nodal line semimetals, establishes a bridge between two independent topological concepts-BICs and Weyl semimetals, but also heralds new possibilities for unconventional device applications, such as dual-mode schemes for highly sensitive sensing and switching., (© 2024. Vacancy defects are commonly present in crystals of energetic materials, and significantly influence the structural stability and decomposition mechanisms. However, there is a lack of profound understanding regarding the introduction of vacancy defects in energetic ionic salt, dihydroxylammonium 5,5'-bitetrazole-1,1'-dioxide (TKX-50). Due to the 1 : 2 ratio of anions to cations, TKX-50 possesses a more complex distribution of vacancy defects compared to traditional energetic materials. Based on the density functional theory method, the relatively favorable thermodynamic formation of vacancy defect distributions was revealed. The noncovalent interactions within the system, as well as the planarity of the anions, were investigated to understand the structural stability of TKX-50. Through ab initio molecular dynamics simulations, we discovered that vacancy defects can expedite the proton transfer during the initial decomposition stage of TKX-50 and affect the pathways of proton transfer. In the subsequent decomposition process, introduction of vacancy defects in the TKX-50 crystal leads to an earlier onset of ring-opening reactions and accelerates the appearance of decomposition products. The findings have the potential to provide insights into modeling vacancy defects in energetic ionic salts and reveal the impact of such defects on the structural stability and decomposition mechanisms of these materials.

It is commonly believed that topologically nontrivial one-dimensional systems support edge states rather than bulk states at zero energy. In this work, we find an unanticipated case of topological Anderson insulator (TAI) phase where two bulk modes are degenerate at zero energy, in addition to degenerate edge modes. We term this "ungapped TAI" to distinguish it from the previously known gapped TAIs. Our experimental realization of both gapped and ungapped TAIs relies on coupled photonic resonators, in which the disorder in coupling is judiciously engineered by adjusting the spacing between the resonators. By measuring the local density of states both in the bulk and at the edges, we demonstrate the existence of these two types of TAIs, together forming a TAI plateau in the phase diagram. Our experimental findings are well supported by theoretical analysis. In the ungapped TAI phase, we observe stable coexistence of topological edge states and localized bulk states at zero energy, highlighting the distinction between TAIs and traditional topological insulators.

Folic acid is a fully oxidized synthetic folate with high bioavailability and stability which has been extensively prescribed to prevent congenital disabilities. Here we revealed the immunosuppressive effect of folic acid by targeting splenic marginal zone B (MZB) cells. Folic acid demonstrates avid binding with the Fc domain of immunoglobulin M (IgM), targeting IgM positive MZB cells in vivo to destabilize IgM-B cell receptor (BCR) complex and block immune responses. The induced anergy of MZB cells by folic acid provides an immunological escaping window for antigens. Covalent conjugation of folic acid with therapeutic proteins and antibodies induces immunological evasion to mitigate the production of anti-drug antibodies, which is a major obstacle to the long-term treatment of biologics by reducing curative effects and/or causing adverse reactions. Folic acid acts as a safe and effective immunosuppressant via IgM-mediated MZB cells targeting to boost the clinical outcomes of biologics by inhibiting the production of anti-drug antibodies, and also holds the potential to treat other indications that adverse immune responses need to be transiently shut off., Competing Interests: The authors have no conflicts of interest to declare., (© 2024 The Authors.)

In this study, a car transfer planning system for parking lots was designed based on reinforcement learning. The car transfer planning system for parking lots is an intelligent parking management system that is designed by using reinforcement learning techniques. The system features autonomous decision-making, intelligent path planning and efficient resource utilization. And the problem is solved by constructing a Markov decision process and using a dynamic planning-based reinforcement learning algorithm. The system has the advantage of looking to the future and using reinforcement learning to maximize its expected returns. And this is in contrast to manual transfer planning which relies on traditional thinking. In the context of this paper on parking lots, the states of the two locations form a finite set. The system ultimately seeks to find a strategy that is beneficial to the long-term development of the operation. It aims to prioritize strategies that have positive impacts in the future, rather than those that are focused solely on short-term benefits. To evaluate strategies, as its basis the system relies on the expected return of a state from now to the future. This approach allows for a more comprehensive assessment of the potential outcomes and ensures the selection of strategies that align with long-term goals. Experimental results show that the system has high performance and robustness in the area of car transfer planning for parking lots. By using reinforcement learning techniques, parking lot management systems can make autonomous decisions and plan optimal paths to achieve efficient resource utilization and reduce parking time.

Greenhouse gases (GHGs) emitted or absorbed by lakes are an important component of the global carbon cycle. However, few studies have focused on the GHG dynamics of eutrophic saline lakes, thus preventing a comprehensive understanding of the carbon cycle. Here, we conducted four sampling analyses using a floating chamber in Daihai Lake, a eutrophication saline lake in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China, to explore its carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) and methane (CH 4 ) emissions. The mean CO 2 emission flux (FCO 2 ) and CH 4 emission flux (FCH 4 ) were 17.54 ± 14.54 mmol/m 2 /day and 0.50 ± 0.50 mmol/m 2 /day, respectively. The results indicated that Daihai Lake was a source of CO 2 and CH 4 , and GHG emissions exhibited temporal variability. The mean CO 2 partial pressure (pCO 2 ) and CH 4 partial pressure (pCH 4 ) were 561.35 ± 109.59 µatm and 17.02 ± 13.45 µatm, which were supersaturated relative to the atmosphere. The regression and correlation analysis showed that the main influencing factors of pCO 2 were wind speed, dissolved oxygen (DO), total nitrogen (TN) and Chlorophyll a (Chl.a), whereas the main influencing factors of pCH 4 were water temperature (WT), Chl.a, nitrate nitrogen (NO 3 - -N), TN, dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and water depth. Salinity regulated carbon mineralization and organic matter decomposition, and it was an important influencing factor of pCO 2 and pCH 4 . Additionally, the trophic level index (TLI) significantly increased pCH 4 . Our study elucidated that salinity and eutrophication play an important role in the dynamic changes of GHG emissions. Individuals with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), the preclinical stage of Alzheimer disease (AD), suffer decline in their visual working memory (WM) functions. Using large-scale network analysis of electroencephalography (EEG), the current study intended to investigate if there are differences in functional connectivity properties extracted during visual WM coding stages between MCI patients and normal controls (NC). A total of 21 MCI patients and 20 NC performed visual memory tasks of load four, while 32-channel EEG recordings were acquired. The functional connectivity properties were extracted from the acquired EEGs by the directed transform function (DTF) via spectral Granger causal analysis. Brain network analyses revealed distinctive brain network patterns between the two groups during the WM coding stage. Compared with the NC, MCI patients exhibited a reduced visual network connectivity of the frontal-temporal in θ (4-7Hz) band. A likely compensation mechanism was observed in MCI patients, with a strong brain functional connectivity of the frontal-occipital and parietal-occipital in both θ and α (8-13Hz) band. Further analyses of the network core node properties based on the differential brain network showed that, in θ band, there was a significant difference in the out-degree of the frontal lobe and parietal lobe between the two groups, while in α band, such difference was located only in the parietal lobe. The current study found that, in MCI patients, dysconnectivity is found from the prefrontal lobe to bilateral temporal lobes, leading to increased recruitment of functional connectivity in the frontal-occipital and parietal-occipital direction. The dysconnectivity pattern of MCI is more complex and primarily driven by core nodes Pz and Fz. These results significantly expanded previous knowledge of MCI patients' EEG dynamics during WM tasks and provide new insights into the underpinning neural mechanism MCI. It further provided a potential therapeutic target for clinical interventions of the condition.

Safe and efficient medical therapy for brain diseases is still an unmet clinical need due to various barriers represented by the blood-brain barrier. Well-designed brain targeted nanocarriers are potential solutions for enhanced brain drug delivery; however, the complicated in vivo process attenuates performance of nanocarriers, which severely hampers clinical translation. The formation of protein corona (PC) is inevitable for nanocarriers circulation and transport in biofluids, acting as an important factor to regulate in vivo performance of nanocarriers. In this review, the reported strategies have been retrospected for better understanding current situation in developing brain targeted nanocarriers. The interplay between brain targeted nanocarriers and plasma proteins is emphasized to comprehend how the nanocarriers adsorb proteins by certain synthetic identity, and following regulations on in vivo performance of nanocarriers. More importantly, the mainstream methods to promote efficiency of nanocarriers by regulating PC, defined as in vitro functionalization and in vivo functionalization strategies, are also discussed. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) for rectal cancer (RC) shows promising clinical response. The modulation of the tumor microenvironment (TME) by NAC and its association with therapeutic response remain unclear. Here, we use single-cell RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptome sequencing to examine the cell dynamics in 29 patients with RC, who are sampled pairwise before and after treatment. We construct a high-resolution cellular dynamic landscape remodeled by NAC and their associations with therapeutic response. NAC markedly reshapes the populations of cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs), which is strongly associated with therapeutic response. The remodeled CAF subsets regulate the TME through spatial recruitment and crosstalk to activate immunity and suppress tumor progression through multiple cytokines, including CXCL12, SLIT2, and DCN. In contrast, the epithelial-mesenchymal transition of malignant cells is upregulated by CAF&#95;FAP through MIR4435-2HG induction, resulting in worse outcomes. Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) was short and rare, making the detection performance of the current targeted sequencing methods unsatisfying. We developed the One-PrimER Amplification (OPERA) system and examined its performance in detecting mutations of low variant allelic frequency (VAF) in various samples with short-sized DNA fragments. In cell line-derived samples containing sonication-sheared DNA fragments with 50-150 bp, OPERA was capable of detecting mutations as low as 0.0025% VAF, while CAPP-Seq only detected mutations of >0.03% VAF. Both single nucleotide variant and insertion/deletion can be detected by OPERA. In synthetic fragments as short as 80 bp with low VAF (0.03%-0.1%), the detection sensitivity of OPERA was significantly higher compared to that of droplet digital polymerase chain reaction. The error rate was 5.9×10 -5 errors per base after de-duplication in plasma samples collected from healthy volunteers. By suppressing "single-strand errors", the error rate can be further lowered by >5 folds in EGFR T790M hotspot. In plasma samples collected from lung cancer patients, OPERA detected mutations in 57.1% stage I patients with 100% specificity and achieved a sensitivity of 30.0% in patients with tumor volume of less than 1 cm 3 . Although saline aquatic ecosystems are significant emitters of greenhouse gases (GHGs), dynamic changes in GHGs at the sediment-water interface remain unclear. The present investigation carried out a total of four sampling campaigns in Daihai Lake, which is a eutrophic saline lake situated in a semi-arid area of northern China. The aim of this study was to investigate the spatio-temporal dynamics of carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) and methane (CH 4 ) fluxes at the sediment-water interface and the influencing factors. The mean concentrations of porewater CO 2 and CH 4 were 44.98 ± 117.99 μmol L -1 and 124.36 ± 97.00 μmol L -1 , far exceeding those in water column of 11.14 ± 2.16 μmol L -1 and 0.33 ± 0.23 μmol L -1 , respectively. The CO 2 and CH 4 fluxes at the sediment-water interface (F S - W CO 2 and F S-W CH 4 ) exhibited significant spatial and temporal variations, with mean values of 9.24 ± 13.84 μmol m -2  d -1 and 3.53 ± 4.36 μmol m -2  d -1 , respectively, indicating that sediment is the source of CO 2 and CH 4 in the water column. However, CO 2 and CH 4 fluxes were much lower than those measured at the water-air interface in a companion study (17.54 ± 14.54 mmol m -2 d -1 and 0.50 ± 0.50 mmol m -2 d -1 , respectively), indicating that the diffusive flux of gases at the sediment-water interface was not the primary source of CO 2 and CH 4 emissions to the atmosphere. Regression and correlation analyses revealed that salinity (Sal) and nutrients were the most influential factors on porewater gas concentrations, and that gas fluxes increased with increasing gas concentrations and porosity. The microbial activity of sediment is greatly affected by nutrients and Sal. Additionally, Sal has the ability to regulate biogeochemical processes, thereby regulating GHG emissions. The present investigation addresses the research gap concerning GHG emissions from sediments of eutrophic saline lakes. The study suggests that controlling the eutrophication and salinization of lakes could be a viable strategy for reducing carbon emissions from lakes. Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) on improving memory deficits in mild cognitive impairment (MCI), as well as to provide visualized evidence for neuronal specificity by using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging., Materials and Methods: Forty MCI patients were enrolled to receive 10-session and sham-controlled 10Hz-rTMS over the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex. The resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging combined with memory scales assessment were performed before and after the intervention. To elucidate the therapeutic mechanism of rTMS, amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations (ALFF) and functional connectivity were calculated. The Pearson correlation was used to measure the relationship between ALFF and memory performance., Results: Compared with the sham group, ALFF significantly increased in the right insula, right inferior frontal gyrus-opercular part, and decreased in the left middle occipital gyrus, left angular gyrus, and left lingual gyrus after rTMS. The change in Auditory Verbal Learning Test scores were negatively correlated with ALFF decreases in the left lingual gyrus. Background: Coronary artery ectasia is defined as a local or diffuse dilatation of the coronary artery more than 1.5 times the diameter of the adjacent normal segment. The etiology of coronary artery ectasia is diverse, and rarely complicated with immunoglobulin G4-related disease (IgG4-related disease). A limited number of cases have been reported, with insidious onset, slow progression but poor prognosis., Case Presentation: we report a patient with coronary artery ectasia combined with IgG4-related disease. He has been diagnosed with IgG4-related disease 5 years after his first percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Despite routine treatment with steroids, he develops a large coronary aneurysm and eventually died., Conclusions: It is suggested that a thorough evaluation should be performed when coronary artery ectasia is diagnosed. The factors such as manifestations of coronary artery thickening, typical imaging features, other aortas involvement, increased serum IgG4 level, etc. should be considered for early diagnosis of key etiologies., (© 2023. Objective: Insomnia disorder with objective short sleep duration (ISS) has been considered as a biologically severe subtype. The aim of this meta-analysis was to reveal the association of the ISS phenotype and cognitive performance., Methods: We searched PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library for studies that observed an association of cognitive performance and insomnia with objective short sleep duration (ISS) phenotype. The "metafor" and "MAd" packages in R software (version 4.2.0) were used to calculate the unbiased standardized mean difference (Hedge's g), which was adjusted so that a negative value indicated worse cognitive performance., Results: The pooled analysis with 1339 participants revealed that the ISS phenotype was associated with overall cognitive impairments (Hedges' g = - 0.56 [- 0.89, - 0.23]), as well as specific cognitive domains including attention (Hedges' g = - 0.86 [- 1.25, - 0.47]), memory (Hedges' g = - 0.47 [- 0.82, - 0.12]), and executive function (Hedges' g = - 0.39 [- 0.76, - 0.02]). However, cognitive performance was not significantly different between insomnia disorder with objective normal sleep duration (INS) and good sleepers (p > .05)., Conclusion: Insomnia disorder with the ISS phenotype, but not the INS phenotype, was associated with cognitive impairments, suggesting the possible utility of treating the ISS phenotype to improve cognitive performance., (© 2023. Patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) suffer from severe memory function impairment, especially working memory [1]. Based on Electroencephalogram (EEG), this study used power spectral density and large-scale network analysis to reveal the frequency changes of brain areas and the diverse network patterns during the visual WM coding stages between MCI and normal controls (NC). The results showed, compared to NC, the left and right prefrontal lobes and central regions has significant synchronization in the θ frequency band, while the left temporal lobe has significant desynchronization during the working memory coding state among MCI. Brain network analysis revealed the diverse network patterns during the WM coding stage between two group. Compared with the NC, the brain of MCI patients reduced the top-down visual network connection flow derived from frontal lobe to parietal lobe, and recruited a more up-down mechanism with a much stronger information flow from frontal lobe to occipital lobe during the WM coding state. This result provides a new perspective for the neural mechanism of WM deficits in MCI patients.Clinical Relevance-Abnormal EEG rhythm and connectivity of brain regions may be important indicators of WM disorders in patients with MCI.

Wireless power transfer (WPT) technology based on magnetic resonance (a basic physical phenomenon) can directly transfer energy from the source to the load without wires and other physical contacts, and has been successfully applied to implantable medical devices, electric vehicles, robotic arms and other fields. However, due to the frequency splitting of near-field coupling, the resonant WPT system has some unique limitations, such as poor transmission stability and low efficiency. Here, we propose anti-resonance with level pinning for high-performance WPT. By introducing the anti-resonance mode into the basic WPT platform, we uncover the competition between dissipative coupling and coherent coupling to achieve novel level pinning, and construct an effective anti-parity-time (anti- PT )-symmetric non-Hermitian system that is superior to previous PT -symmetric WPT schemes. On the one hand, the eigenvalue of the anti- PT -symmetric system at resonance frequency is always pure real in both strong and weak coupling regions, and can be used to overcome the transmission efficiency decrease caused by weak coupling, as brought about by, for example, a large size ratio of the transmitter to receiver, or a long transmission distance. On the other hand, due to the level pinning effect of the two kinds of coupling mechanisms, the working frequency of the system is guaranteed to be locked, so frequency tracking is not required when the position and size of the receiver change. Even if the system deviates from the matching condition, an efficient WPT can be realized, thereby demonstrating the robustness of the level pinning. The experimental results show that when the size ratio of the transmitter coil to the receiver coil is 4.29 (which is in the weak coupling region), the transfer efficiency of the anti- PT -symmetric system is nearly 4.3 (3.2) times higher than that of the PT -symmetric system when the matching conditions are satisfied (deviated). With the miniaturization and integration of devices in mind, a synthetic anti- PT -symmetric system is used to realize a robust WPT. Anti- PT -symmetric WPT technology based on the synthetic dimension not only provides a good research platform for the study of abundant non-Hermitian physics, but also provides a means of going beyond traditional near-field applications with resonance mechanisms, such as resonance imaging, wireless sensing and photonic routing., (© The Author(s) 2023. Light propagates in various ways depending on environment, including uniform medium, surface/interface and photonic crystals, which appears ubiquitously in daily life and has been exploited for advanced optics technology. We unveiled that a topological photonic crystal exhibits unique electromagnetic (EM) transport properties originating from the Dirac frequency dispersion and multicomponent spinor eigenmodes. Measuring precisely local Poynting vectors in microstrips of honeycomb structure where optics topology emerges upon a band gap opening in the Dirac dispersion and a p-d band inversion induced by a Kekulé-type distortion respecting C 6v symmetry, we showed that a chiral wavelet induces a global EM transportation circulating in the direction counter to the source, which is intimately related to the topological band gap specified by a negative Dirac mass. This brand-new Huygens-Fresnel phenomenon can be considered as the counterpart of negative refraction of EM plane waves associated with upwardly convex dispersions of photonic crystals, and our present finding is expected to open a new window for photonic innovations., (© 2023. Oleanolic acid derivative DKS26 has hypolipidemic, islet, and hepatoprotective effects. However, high lipophilicity and low water solubility led to DKS26 extremely low oral bioavailability. Herein, lipid-based nanocarriers, including lipid nanodiscs (sND/DKS26) and liposomes (sLip/DKS26), are prepared to improve DKS26 oral absorption. In comparison to free DKS26 (5.81%), the absolute oral bioavailabilities are significantly increased to 29.47% (sND/DKS26) and 37.25% (sLip/DKS26) without detectable toxicity or immunogenicity even after repeated administrations. Both sND/DKS26 and sLip/DKS26 significantly reduce the feeding glucose level and the AUC of OGTT in db/db diabetic mice. Aiding by the newly developed scFv-based nanocarrier separation methods, no intact nanocarriers are detected in blood circulation after oral administration, suggesting that both formulations are unable to penetrate the intestinal epithelium. They enhance DKS26 absorption mainly by improving intestinal cell uptake and rapid intracellular release of the payload. Since pre-existing anti-PEG is widely detected in humans, the present oral absorption pathway of both nanocarriers successfully avoids unfavorable immunological responses after interaction with anti-PEG antibodies. High-performance elastomers have gained significant interest because of their wide applications in industry and our daily life. However, it remains a great challenge to fabricate elastomers simultaneously integrating ultra-high mechanical strength, toughness, and excellent healing and recycling capacities. In this study, ultra-strong, healable, and recyclable elastomers are fabricated by dynamically cross-linking copolymers composed of rigid polyimide (PI) segments and soft poly(urea-urethane) (PUU) segments with hydrogen bonds. The elastomers, which are denoted as PIPUU, have a record-high tensile strength of ≈142 MPa and an extremely high toughness of ≈527 MJ m -3 . The structure of the PIPUU elastomer contains hydrogen-bond-cross-linked elastic matrix and homogenously dispersed rigid nanostructures. The rigid PI segments self-assemble to generate phase-separated nanostructures that serve as nanofillers to significantly strengthen the elastomers. Meanwhile, the elastic matrix is composed of soft PUU segments cross-linked with reversible hydrogen bonds, which largely enhance the strength and toughness of the elastomer. The dynamically cross-linked PIPUU elastomers can be healed and recycled to restore their original mechanical strength. With the prevalence of digitization, smart operation has become mainstream in future wastewater treatment plants. This requires substantial and complete historical data for model construction. However, the data collected from the front-end sensor contained numerous missing dissolved oxygen (DO) values. Therefore, this study proposed a framework that adaptively adjusted the structure of embedded filling models according to the missing situation. Long short-term memory and gated recurrent units (GRU) were embedded for experiments, and some standard filling methods were selected as benchmarks. The experimental dataset indicated that the K-nearest neighbor could achieve good filling results by traversing the parameters. The effect obtained by the method proposed in this study was slightly better, and GRU was better among the three embedded models. Analysis of the filling results for each DO column revealed that the effect was highly correlated with the dispersion of DO data. The experimental results for the entire dataset demonstrated that the filling effect of the proposed method was significantly better and more stable than the others. The proposed model suffered from the problem of insufficient interpretability and long training time. Although toroidal dipole (TD) resonance is a highly localized mode with a high quality (Q) factor, in most chiral structures the TD resonance is much weaker than the electric or magnetic dipole resonances and contributes little to the chiral response. In this Letter, we theoretically propose a chiral all-dielectric TD metasurface that possesses giant optical chirality with a certain degree of incident-angle robustness induced by a strong TD resonance. Interestingly, the symmetry of the system can be broken simultaneously at oblique incidence to produce chiral quasi-bound states in the continuum. The nearly unchanged high-Q TD resonance within a certain range of incident angles can avoid the problem of a reduced image quality caused by the incident-angle sensitivity, as demonstrated by the polarization-multiplexed-field image displays. The giant chirality with a certain degree of incident-angle robustness induced by the TD mode would be useful in some applications, including high-quality optical imaging, high-performance asymmetric transmission, and sensing.

Cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) has been recommended as the first-line therapy for this condition. However, insomnia disorder with objective short sleep duration (ISS) phenotype is a distinct subtype from insomnia with normal sleep duration (INS) phenotype, and it may have a differential therapeutic response. We searched PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and ClinicalTrials.gov using the PICOS principle for studies that examined the efficacy of cognitive-behavioral therapy for those with the ISS phenotype versus the INS phenotype, and identified nine studies with 612 patients with insomnia disorder. This included 270 patients with the ISS phenotype and 342 patients with the INS phenotype. The main outcome was that CBT-I had a better efficacy for the INS phenotype compared with the ISS phenotype, with about 30% higher response and about 20% higher remission. Similar results were indicated in the secondary outcomes. The therapeutic response of the ISS phenotype was significantly different from that of the INS phenotype. The wavelength of defect mode in all-dielectric photonic crystals (PCs) with a dielectric defect are blue-shifted as incident angle increases for both transverse electric and transverse magnetic (TM) polarized waves. The blue-shifted property of defect mode limits the design of some optical devices including omnidirectional optical filters and wide-angle polarization selectors. Here we introduce a hyperbolic metamaterial (HMM) layer as a defect into dielectric one-dimensional photonic crystals (1DPCs) to obtain an omnidirectional defect mode for TM polarized waves at near-infrared regimes. Since only one HMM layer is introduced, omnidirectional defect mode with transmittance as high as 71% can be realized. Because of the unusual angle-dependence of propagating phase in the HMM defect, the total phase for satisfying the resonance condition of defect mode can be unchanged in a wide-angle range at a fixed wavelength, which leads to the omnidirectional defect mode. Moreover, the manipulation of propagating phase can be generalized to the case of circularly polarized waves, and we obtain an omnidirectional defect mode for left-handed circularly polarized waves in 1DPCs with a chiral hyperbolic metamaterial defect. Nevertheless, the defect mode for right-handed circularly polarized waves is still blue-shifted. Such spin-selective omnidirectional defect mode can be utilized to greatly enhance circular dichroism in a wide-angle range up to 64.1°. Our structure facilitates the design of omnidirectional optical filters with a high transmittance and circular polarization selectors working in a wide-angle range.

In ear of smart cities, intelligent medical image recognition technique has become a promising way to solve remote patient diagnosis in IoMT. Although deep learning-based recognition approaches have received great development during the past decade, explainability always acts as a main obstacle to promote recognition approaches to higher levels. Because it is always hard to clearly grasp internal principles of deep learning models. In contrast, the conventional machine learning (CML)-based methods are well explainable, as they give relatively certain meanings to parameters. Motivated by the above view, this paper combines deep learning with the CML, and proposes a hybrid intelligence-driven medical image recognition framework in IoMT. On the one hand, the convolution neural network is utilized to extract deep and abstract features for initial images. On the other hand, the CML-based techniques are employed to reduce dimensions for extracted features and construct a strong classifier that output recognition results. A real dataset about pathologic myopia is selected to establish simulative scenario, in order to assess the proposed recognition framework. Results reveal that the proposal that improves recognition accuracy about two to three percent.

Background: Chromosomal aneuploidy is the most common birth defect. However, the developmental mechanism and gene expression profile of fetuses with chromosomal aneuploidy are relatively unknown, and the maternal immune changes induced by fetal aneuploidy remain unclear. The inability to obtain the placenta multiple times in real-time is a bottleneck in research on aneuploid pregnancies. Plasma cell-free DNA (cfDNA) carries the gene expression profile information of its source cells and may be used to evaluate the development of fetuses with aneuploidy and the immune changes induced in the mother owing to fetal aneuploidy., Methods: Here, we carried out whole-genome sequencing of the plasma cfDNA of 101 pregnant women carrying a fetus with trisomy (trisomy 21, n = 42; trisomy 18, n = 28; trisomy 13, n = 31) based on non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) screening and 140 normal pregnant women to identify differential genes according to the cfDNA nucleosome profile in the region around the transcription start sites (TSSs)., Results: The plasma cfDNA promoter profiles were found to differ between aneuploid and euploid pregnancies. A total of 158 genes with significant differences were identified, of which 43 genes were upregulated and 98 genes were downregulated. Functional enrichment and signaling pathway analysis were performed based on Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) databases found that these signal pathways were mainly related to the coordination of developmental signals during embryonic development, the control of cell growth and development, regulation of neuronal survival, and immune regulation, such as the MAPK, Hippo, TGF-β, and Rap1 signaling pathways, which play important roles in the development of embryonic tissues and organs. Furthermore, based on the results of differential gene analysis, a total of 14 immune-related genes with significant differences from the ImmPort database were collected and analyzed. These significantly different immune genes were mainly associated with the maintenance of embryonic homeostasis and normal development., Conclusions: These results suggest that the distribution characteristics of cfDNA nucleosomes in maternal plasma can be used to reflect the status of fetal development and changes of the immune responses in trisomic pregnancies. Transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation, which involves the application of electrical currents to the cervical (tcVNS) or auricular (taVNS) branches of the vagus nerve, may be a potential treatment for improving cognitive dysfunction. taVNS may improve cognitive performance in healthy adults, and fewer studies have been performed on the effects of tcVNS on cognition in healthy subjects. We conducted a randomized, single-blind, crossover-controlled trial to investigate the effects of tcVNS stimulation on cognitive function and neural activity in the brains of healthy adults. This study provides support for further tcVNS studies for the treatment of cognitive impairment. Twenty-one participants were randomly divided into two groups, A and B. Group A received tcVNS first and then sham-tcVNS, while group B received the intervention in the reverse order, receiving sham stimulation first and then true stimulation. All subjects were required to perform cognitive function tests before and after receiving intervention, and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) was performed concurrently during the intervention. We hypothesized that tcVNS would have an effect on the cognitive performance of the subjects and alter the neural activity of the brain. The present study showed that tcVNS had beneficial effects on cognitive performance, mainly improving memory and language skills and attention. tcVNS intervention produced significant spontaneous neural activity in the calcarine gyrus, fusiform gyrus, lingual gyrus, and parahippocampal gyrus of the brain. Background: Sudden sensorineural hearing loss is a common disease with several etiologic hypotheses, such as infection, vascular occlusion, inflammation, oxidative stress, etc. Studies have reported that the concentration of cell-free DNA in plasma will elevate in these situations. Former studies have reported that the whole-genome sequencing of cell-free DNA has high accuracy and sensitivity in inferring gene expressions. In this study, we plan to use the whole-genome sequencing of cell-free DNA to uncover novel prognostic factors of sudden sensorineural hearing loss and provide new insight into the clinical application of cell-free DNA., Methods: In this study, 84 sudden sensorineural hearing loss patients (47 in recovery group and 37 in no-recovery group) were enrolled. After whole-genome sequencing of the cell-free DNA, the protein-protein interaction network was constructed using the differentially expressed genes. Multinomial logistics regression analysis was used to analyze the prognostic factors of hearing improvement., Results: In this study, we found distinct patterns of expressed and unexpressed genes in cell-free DNA sequence read depth coverage in sudden sensorineural hearing loss patients. The top centrality hub genes IGF1, NOTCH1, APOE, FAM3C, RPS6KB1, and RELB were identified from the protein-protein interaction network. Multinomial logistics regression analysis demonstrated that the coverage patterns of 3 key differentially expressed genes (NOTCH1, APOE, and RELB) are significantly different in sudden sensorineural hearing loss with and without hearing recovery., Conclusion: The cell-free DNA could have more applications in diverse diseases, and the coverage patterns of 3 differentially expressed genes (NOTCH1, APOE, and RELB) are independent prognostic factors of sudden sensorineural hearing loss. Their expression levels may play a critical role in the hearing improvement of sudden sensorineural hearing loss patients.

Objective: Acoustic neuroma (AN) is a common benign tumor. Little is known of neuropsychological studies in patients with acoustic neuroma, especially cognitive neuropsychology, and the neuropsychological abnormalities of patients affect their life quality. The purpose of this study was to explore the changes in the cognitive function of patients with acoustic neuroma, and the possible mechanism of these changes by structural magnetic resonance imaging., Materials and Methods: We used a neuropsychological assessment battery to assess cognitive function in 69 patients with acoustic neuroma and 70 healthy controls. Then, we used diffusion tensor imaging data to construct the structural brain network and calculate topological properties based on graph theory, and we studied the relation between the structural brain network and cognitive function. Moreover, three different subnetworks (short-range subnetwork, middle-range subnetwork, and long-range subnetwork) were constructed by the length of nerve fibers obtained from deterministic tracking. We studied the global and local efficiency of various subnetworks and analyzed the correlation between network metrics and cognitive function. Furthermore, connectome edge analysis directly assessed whether there were differences in the number of fibers in the different brain regions. We analyzed the relation between the differences and cognitive function., Results: Compared with the healthy controls, the general cognitive function, memory, executive function, attention, visual space executive ability, visual perception ability, movement speed, and information processing speed decreased significantly in patients with acoustic neuroma. A unilateral hearing loss due to a left acoustic neuroma had a greater impact on cognitive function. The results showed that changes in the global and local metrics, the efficiency of subnetworks, and cognitively-related fiber connections were associated with cognitive impairments in patients with acoustic neuroma., Conclusion: Patients exhibit cognitive impairments caused by the decline of the structure and function in some brain regions, and they also develop partial compensation after cognitive decline. Cognitive problems are frequent in patients with acoustic neuroma. Introduction: Diabetic neuropathy is the most prevalent complication of diabetes mellitus. Although the precise etiology of this neurological disorder has yet to be defined, elevated blood glucose promotes anerobic glycolysis; this produces excess advanced glycation end-products, many of which have a pyrrole structure. Here, we test the hypothesis that protein pyrrole adducts are associated with elevated glucose indices and some clinical features of diabetic diffuse neuropathies., Method: We investigated the levels of plasma pyrrole adducts and adjusted urinary pyrrole adducts in a group of elderly persons (n = 516, age 60-79) residing in the District of Luohu, Shenzhen, China between 2017 and 2018. Symptoms of distal symmetric polyneuropathy (DSPN) and resting heart rate, a measure of autonomic nervous system function, were collected from participants (n = 258) with elevated glucose indices., Result: Protein pyrrole adducts showed a strong correlation with glucose indices before and after adjustment for age and estimated glomerular filtration rates. Stratified analysis showed that the medians and interquartile values of pyrrole adducts grew as glucose indices of the subgroups increased. Participants with symptoms of DSPN and sinus tachycardia presented elevated levels of plasma pyrrole adducts., Conclusion: This study provides a novel link between glucose indices and the etiology of diabetic diffuse neuropathies., (© 2022 The Authors. Photocatalytic hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) production will become a burgeoning strategy for solar energy utilization by selective oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). Polymeric carbon nitride (PCN) shows relatively high two-electron ORR selectivity for H 2 O 2 production but still limited low H 2 O 2 production efficiency due to slow exciton dissociation. Herein, we constructed a heptazine/triazine layer stacked carbon nitride heterojunction with fluorine/potassium (F/K) dual sites (FKHTCN). The introduction of F/K not only can regulate layer components to enhance the charge separation efficiency but, more importantly, also optimize the adsorption of surface oxygen molecules and intermediate *OOH during H 2 O 2 production. Consequently, FKHTCN efficiently improves the photocatalytic H 2 O 2 production rate up to 3380.9 μmol h -1 g -1 , nearly 15 times higher than that of traditional PCN. Moreover, a production-utilization cascade system was designed to explore their practical application in environmental remediation. This work lays out the importance of engineering a layer-stacked configuration and active sites for enhancing photocatalysis.

Background: Fetal macrosomia is common occurrence in pregnancy, which is associated with several adverse prognosis both of maternal and neonatal. While, the accuracy of prediction of fetal macrosomia is poor. The aim of this study was to develop a reliable noninvasive prediction classifier of fetal macrosomia., Methods: A total of 3600 samples of routine noninvasive prenatal testing (NIPT) data at 12 + 0 -27 + 6 weeks of gestation, which were subjected to low-coverage whole-genome sequencing of maternal plasma cell-free DNA (cfDNA), were collected from three independent hospitals. We identified set of genes with significant differential coverages by comparing the promoter profiling between macrosomia cases and controls. We selected genes to develop classifier for noninvasive predicting, by using support vector machine (SVM) and logistic regression models, respectively. The performance of each classifier was evaluated by area under the curve (AUC) analysis., Results: According to the available follow-up results, 162 fetal macrosomia pregnancies and 648 matched controls were included. A total of 1086 genes with significantly differential promoter profiling were found between pregnancies with macrosomia and controls (p < 0.05). With the AUC as a reference，the classifier based on SVM (C MA-A2 ) had the best performance, with an AUC of 0.8256 (95% CI: 0.7927-0.8586)., Conclusions: Our study provides that assessing the risk of fetal macrosomia by whole-genome promoter nucleosome profiling of maternal plasma cfDNA based on low-coverage next-generation sequencing is feasible., (© 2022. The search for new electrode materials for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs), especially for enhancing the specific capacity and cycling stability of anodes, is of great significance for the development of new energy conversion and storage materials. Here, a new type of titanium nitride composite anode (TiN@C) coated with 2D carbon nanosheets was prepared for the first time using a rationally designed topochemical conversion approach of interface-confinement. Subsequently, the electrochemical performance and Na + storage mechanism of TiN@C as an anode for SIBs was investigated. The quantum-dot-sized TiN anodes exhibited shorter ionic transport pathways, while the 2D ultrathin carbon nanosheets reinforced the structural stability of the composite and provided a high electron transformation rate. As a result, the TiN/C composite anode can deliver a high reversible capacity of 170 mA h g -1 and 149 mA h g -1 after 5000 cycles at a current density of 0.5 A g -1 and 1 A g -1 , indicating excellent electrochemical properties. This work provides new opportunities to explore the convenient and controllable preparation of metal nitride anodes for other energy conversion and storage applications.

In this study, we synthesized nano-microemulsions of calcium carbonate (CaCO 3 )-encapsulated curcumin (Cur)-Ferulic acid (FA) ester derivatives of diverse mass ratios by using the solution casting approach. The structures, antioxidant and antimicrobial activities, physical properties, and potential of hydrogen (pH) sensitivity of these products were examined. Compared with microparticles of CaCO 3 , those of CaCO 3 @Cur-FA exhibited excellent antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. Response to pH was indicated through the release of Cur-FA from CaCO 3 @Cur-FA in solutions having different pH values. The results demonstrated that Cur-FA was released more quickly from CaCO 3 @Cur-FA at pH 5.5 than at pH 7.4. CaCO 3 @Cur-FA demonstrated good antioxidant capacities through its ability to scavenge 2,2'-amino-di(2-ethyl-benzothiazoline sulphonic acid-6)ammonium salt (ABTS + ) and 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH). These activities were three-fold more than those observed in CaCO 3 microparticle control groups; additionally, the antimicrobial activity against Aspergillus niger and Escherichia coli increased by 40.5 and 54.6%, respectively. Soil organic carbon (SOC) dynamics is regulated by a complex interplay of factors such as climate and potential anthropogenic activities. Livestocks play a key role in regulating the C cycle in grasslands. However, the interrelationship between SOC and these drivers remains unclear at different soil layers, and their potential relationships network have rarely been quantitatively assessed. Here, we completed a six-year manipulation experiment of grazing exclusion (no grazing: NG) and increasing grazing intensity (light grazing: LG, medium grazing: MG, heavy grazing: HG). We tested light fraction organic carbon (LFOC) and heavy fraction organic carbon (HFOC) in 12 plots along grazing intensity in three soil layers (topsoil: 0-10 cm, mid-soil: 10-30 cm, subsoil: 30-50 cm) to assess the drivers of SOC. Grazing significantly reduced SOC of the soil profile, but with significant depth and time dependencies. (1) SOC and SOC stability of the topsoil is primarily regulated by grazing duration (years). Specifically, grazing duration and grazing intensity increased the SOC lability of topsoil due to an increase in LFOC. (2) Grazing intensity was the major factor affecting the mid-soil SOC dynamics, among which MG had significantly lower SOC than did NG. (3) Subsoil organic carbon dynamics were mainly regulated by climatic factors. The increase in mean annual temperature (MAT) may have promoted the turnover of LFOC to HFOC in the subsoil. Synthesis and applications. When evaluating the impacts of grazing on soil organic fraction, we need to consider the differences in sampling depth and the duration of grazing years. Our results highlight that the key factors influencing SOC dynamics differ among soil layers. Psychiatric disorders include severe psychiatric disorders and those in general with some psychiatric disorders having a clear etiology or in which a significant psychiatric predisposing factor is present. Whereas, psychiatric disorders precisely refer to those characterized by mild depression and mild anxiety and appear to affect a large number of people in any community. It has been reported that the disease is highly prevalent and has a huge impact on the individual, family, and community levels, resulting in a heavy burden on the healthcare system of a country. To explore the status of somatic symptoms in young and middle-aged psychiatric patients during long-term hospitalization, a total of 114 young and middle-aged psychiatric patients with prolonged hospitalization (more than 5 years) were included. Data information of the hospitalized patients was recorded, including preadmission somatic symptoms, electrocardiogram (ECG), echocardiogram, abdominal ultrasound, and blood tests. In addition, a homemade questionnaire was administered, and general information about the patients was also collected, including gender, age, current medication use, and duration of medication use. Correlations between cardiometabolic disease, osteoporosis, and long-term oral antipsychotic medication were analyzed in these young and middle-aged patients. The prevalence of comorbid somatic symptoms was 77.2%, and concomitant disorders included mainly cardiometabolic disorders, osteoporosis, pulmonary infections, cerebrovascular disorders, digestive disorders, fractures, and skin conditions. The incidence of somatic symptoms caused by long-term use of antipsychotic drugs was about 88.6%, and the incidence of concomitant somatic symptoms was higher in young and middle-aged psychiatric patients who were hospitalized for a long time. The current study observed a high prevalence of somatic symptoms in young and middle-aged patients with long-term inpatient psychiatric illness. Endocrine and metabolic disorders, particularly dyslipidemia, may trigger a range of deleterious effects. In addition to this, there is a high incidence of osteoporosis. Background: The main classification systems of sleep disorders are based on the subjective self-reported criteria. Objective measures are essential to characterize the nocturnal sleep disturbance, identify daytime impairment, and determine the course of these symptoms. The aim of this study was to establish a resting-state fMRI-based support vector machine (SVM) classifier to diagnose insomnia disorder., Methods: We enrolled 20 patients with insomnia disorder and 21 healthy controls, and obtained their simultaneous polysomnographic electroencephalography and functional magnetic resonance imaging (EEG-fMRI) recordings. The SVM classifiers were trained to capture insomnia. Classifier performance was quantified by a 5-fold cross validation and on independent test dataset., Results: The fMRI-based SVM classifier was able to diagnose insomnia with an accuracy of 89.3% (sensitivity of 90.9%, specificity of 87.7%). The robustness of SVM classifier was encouraging., Conclusions: We established an encouraging resting-state fMRI-based SVM classifier to automatically diagnose insomnia disorder. Using artificial intelligence method to describe general working process is a more meaningful and widely used idea in various practical projects. At the same time, it is also an important way to realize intelligent management. Water pollution is serious all over the world, also the intelligent management of sewage treatment has always been one of the urgent problems to be solved. For this, an intelligent management system is designed in this study to realize automatic monitoring and intelligent decision-making of sewage treatment. However, the existing technology usually trains artificial intelligence models based on historical data, and such models have some limitations in describing nonlinear and complex wastewater treatment processes. Offline machine learning lacks dynamic adaptive characteristics to scene changes. Considering this, this paper designs an online learning-empowered smart management for A 2 /O process in sewage treatment processes (OL-AP). Online learning is based on the new data generated by the scene transformation, so that the model can learn again and give better results. In this study, relevant simulation experiments are carried out on the sewage treatment data of a sewage treatment plant in Chongqing. Firstly, automatic data collection is realized based on the sensor network of the IoT. Then, according to the preprocessed data, the designed prediction model is trained and a set of parameters with better evaluation indexes is obtained. Finally, online learning uses the latest data samples based on the online feedback of real scenes to optimize the model by retraining and adjusting parameters., (Copyright © 2022 Elsevier Inc. Usually, on-chip beam splitting can be achieved by manipulating the in-plane iso-frequency curves (IFCs) of the structure, where the confinement of light along the out-of-plane direction is governed by total internal reflection. In this Letter, without needing a high-index dielectric background material for total internal reflection, we achieve on-chip beam splitting in a linear-crossing metamaterial (LCMM) mimicked by a two-dimensional photonic crystal (PhC) slab where the vertical confinement is enabled by a bound state in the continuum (BIC) and totally beyond the light cone. Particularly, the light propagating inside the LCMM can be flexibly controlled by the rotation angle of the rectangular silicon pillars in the PhC slab. On-chip triple beam splitting can further be designed by combining two kinds of LCMM with opposite rotation angles. Such light beam splitting beyond the light cone originates from the combined manipulation of the BIC and the spatial dispersion of LCMMs. Our work promotes the development of optical devices in integrated optics, such as on-chip focusing, switching, and (de)multiplexing.
