Inefficient active site utilization of oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalysts have limited the energy efficiency of proton exchange membrane (PEM) water electrolysis. Here, an atomic grid structure is demonstrated composed of high-density Ir sites (≈10 atoms per nm 2 ) on reactive MnO 2-x support which mediates oxygen coverage-enhanced OER process. Experimental characterizations verify the low-valent Mn species with decreased oxygen coordination in MnO 2-x exert a pivotal impact in the enriched oxygen coverage on the surface during OER process, and the distributed Ir atomic grids, where highly electrophilic Ir─O (II-δ)- bonds proceed rapidly, render intense nucleophilic attack of oxygen radicals. Thereby, this metal-support cooperation achieves ultra-low overpotentials of 166 mV at 10 mA cm -2 and 283 mV at 500 mA cm -2 , together with a striking mass activity which is 380 times higher than commercial IrO 2 at 1.53 V. Semiaquilegia danxiashanensis is currently known only from the type locality, Danxia Mountain, characterized by its spectacular red sandstone cliffscape. In this study, we assembled the complete chloroplast genome sequence of S. danxiashanensis and inferred its phylogenetic relationships. Total length of the chloroplast genome was 160,548 bp, with an overall GC content of 39%. The chloroplast genome had typical quadripartite structure and contained one LSC region (89,882 bp) and one SSC region (17,386 bp), which were separated by two IRs regions (26,640 bp, respectively). It comprised 133 genes, including 84 protein coding genes, 41 tRNA genes and eight rRNA genes. The maximum likelihood phylogenetic analysis indicated that S. danxiashanensis was sister to S. adoxoides ; meanwhile, Semiaquilegia was closely related to both Urophysa and Aquilegia in Ranunculaceae. Visual adaptation is essential for optimizing the image quality and sensitivity of artificial vision systems in real-world lighting conditions. However, additional modules, leading to time delays and potentially increasing power consumption, are needed for traditional artificial vision systems to implement visual adaptation. Here, an ITO/PMMA/SiC-NWs/ITO photoelectric synaptic device is developed for compact artificial vision systems with the visual adaption function. The theoretical calculation and experimental results demonstrated that the heating effect, induced by the increment light intensity, leads to the photoelectric synaptic device enabling the visual adaption function. Additionally, a visual adaptation artificial neuron (VAAN) circuit was implemented by incorporating the photoelectric synaptic device into a LIF neuron circuit. The output frequency of this VAAN circuit initially increases and then decreases with gradual light intensification, reflecting the dynamic process of visual adaptation. Furthermore, a visual adaptation spiking neural network (VASNN) was constructed to evaluate the photoelectric synaptic device based visual system for perception tasks. The results indicate that, in the task of traffic sign detection under extreme weather conditions, an accuracy of 97% was achieved (which is approximately 12% higher than that without a visual adaptation function). Our research provides a biologically plausible hardware solution for visual adaptation in neuromorphic computing.

Background: Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) is a highly desmoplastic tumor with poor prognosis even after curative resection. We investigated the associations between the composition of the ICC stroma and immune cell infiltration and aimed to develop a stromal-immune signature to predict prognosis in surgically treated ICC., Patients and Methods: We recruited 359 ICC patients and performed immunohistochemistry to detect α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA), CD3, CD4, CD8, Foxp3, CD68, and CD66b. Aniline was used to stain collagen deposition. Survival analyses were performed to detect prognostic values of these markers. Recursive partitioning for a discrete-time survival tree was applied to define a stromal-immune signature with distinct prognostic value. We delineated an integrated stromal-immune signature based on immune cell subpopulations and stromal composition to distinguish subgroups with different recurrence-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) time., Results: We defined four major patterns of ICC stroma composition according to the distributions of α-SMA and collagen: dormant (α-SMAlow/collagenhigh), fibrogenic (α-SMAhigh/collagenhigh), inert (α-SMAlow/collagenlow), and fibrolytic (α-SMAhigh/collagenlow). The stroma types were characterized by distinct patterns of infiltration by immune cells. We divided patients into six classes. Class I, characterized by high CD8 expression and dormant stroma, displayed the longest RFS and OS, whereas Class VI, characterized by low CD8 expression and high CD66b expression, displayed the shortest RFS and OS. The integrated stromal-immune signature was consolidated in a validation cohort., Conclusion: We developed and validated a stromal-immune signature to predict prognosis in surgically treated ICC. These findings provide new insights into the stromal-immune response to ICC.

Accelerating perovskite solid solution discovery and sustainable synthesis is crucial for addressing challenges in wireless communication and biosensors. However, the vast array of chemical compositions and their dependence on factors such as crystal structure, and sintering temperature require time-consuming manual processes. To overcome these constraints, we introduce an automated materials discovery approach encompassing machine learning (ML) assisted material screening, robotic synthesis, and high-throughput characterization. Our proposed platform for rapid sintering and dielectric analysis streamlines the characterization of perovskites and the discovery of disordered materials. The setup has been successfully validated, demonstrating processing materials within minutes, in stark contrast to conventional procedures that can take hours or days. Following setup validation with established samples, we showcase synthesizing single-phase solid solutions within the barium family, such as (Ba x Sr 1-x )CeO 3 , identified through ML-guided chemistry., (© 2024. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) poses a significant challenge with dismal survival rates, necessitating a deeper understanding of its molecular mechanisms and the development of improved therapies. Metabolic reprogramming, particularly heightened glycolysis, plays a crucial role in HCC progression. Glycolysis-associated genes (GAGs) emerge as key players in HCC pathogenesis, influencing the tumor microenvironment and immune responses. This study aims to investigate the intricate interplay between GAGs and the immune landscape within HCC, offering valuable insights into potential prognostic markers and therapeutic targets to enhance treatment strategies and patient outcomes. Through the exploration of GAGs, we have identified two distinct molecular glycolytic subtypes in HCC patients, each exhibiting significant differences in both the immune microenvironment and prognosis. A risk model comprising five key GAGs was formulated and subsequently evaluated for their predictive accuracy. Our findings underscore the diverse tumor microenvironment and immune responses associated with the varying glycolytic subtypes observed in HCC. Purpose: To determine the prevalence of anxiety and depression in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) and to identify central symptoms and bridge symptoms among psychiatric disorders., Methods: This cross-sectional study recruited patients with NPC in Guangzhou, China from May 2022, to October 2022. The General Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) and Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) were used for screening anxiety and depression, respectively. Network analysis was conducted to evaluate the centrality and connectivity of the symptoms of anxiety, depression, quality of life (QoL) and insomnia., Results: A total of 2806 respondents with complete GAD-7 and PHQ-9 scores out of 3828 were enrolled. The incidence of anxiety in the whole population was 26.5% (depression, 28.5%; either anxiety or depression, 34.8%). Anxiety was highest at caner diagnosis (34.2%), while depression reached a peak at late-stage radiotherapy (48.5%). Both moderate and severe anxiety and depression were exacerbated during radiotherapy. Coexisting anxiety and depression occurred in 58.3% of those with either anxiety or depression. The generated network showed that anxiety and depression symptoms were closely connected; insomnia was strongly connected with QoL. "Sad mood", "Lack of energy", and "Trouble relaxing" were the most important items in the network. Insomnia was the most significant bridge item that connected symptom groups., Conclusion: Patients with NPC are facing alarming disturbances of psychiatric disorders; tailored strategies should be implemented for high-risk patients. Organic luminescent materials that exhibit thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) can convert non-emissive triplet excitons into emissive singlet states through a reverse intersystem crossing (RISC) process. Therefore, they have tremendous potential for applications in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). However, with the development of ultra-high definition 4K/8K display technologies, designing efficient deep-blue TADF materials to achieve the Commission Internationale de l'Éclairage (CIE) coordinates fulfilling BT.2020 remains a significant challenge. Here, an effective approach is proposed to design deep-blue TADF molecules based on hybrid long- and short-range charge-transfer by incorporation of multiple donor moieties into organoboron multiple resonance acceptors. The resulting TADF molecule exhibits deep-blue emission at 414 nm with a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 29 nm, together with a thousand-fold increase in RISC rate. OLEDs based on the champion material achieve a record maximum external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 22.8% with CIE coordinates of (0.163, 0.046), approaching the coordinates of the BT.2020 blue standard. Moreover, TADF-assisted fluorescence devices employing the designed material as a sensitizer exhibit an exceptional EQE of 33.1%. This study aims to explore the pharmacological substance basis of Qi Ge Decoction (QG) in antihyperlipidemia through a combination of metabolomics and serum pharmacochemistry. We used ultra-performance liquid chromatography quadrupole-time-of-flight/MS (UPLC Q-TOF/MS) to analyze and identify the chemical constituents of QG in vitro and in blood chemical components. The metabolomics technology was used to analyze serum biomarkers of QG in preventing and treating hyperlipidemia. We constructed a mathematical model of the relationship between constituents absorbed into the blood and endogenous biomarkers and explored the potential therapeutic application of QG for the prevention and treatment of hyperlipidemia. Compared with the model group, the levels of total cholesterol and triglyceride in the QG group were significantly decreased (P < 0.01). A total of 12 chemical components absorbed into the blood were identified, and 48 biomarkers of the hyperlipidemia model were obtained from serum metabolomic analysis, of which 15 metabolites were backregulated after QG intervention. Puerarin, hesperetin, puerarin xyloside, calycosin, and monohydroxy-tetramethoxyflavone had a high correlation with the biomarkers regulated by QG. Chemodynamic therapy (CDT), an emerging cancer treatment modality, uses multivalent metal elements to convert endogenous hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) to toxic hydroxyl radicals (•OH) via a Fenton or Fenton-like reaction, thus eliciting oxidative damage of cancer cells. However, the antitumor potency of CDT is largely limited by the high glutathione (GSH) concentration and low catalytic efficiency in the tumor sites. The combination of CDT with chemotherapy provides a promising strategy to overcome these limitations. In this work, to enhance antitumor potency by tumor-targeted and GSH depletion-amplified chemodynamic-chemo therapy, the hyaluronic acid (HA)/polydopamine (PDA)-decorated Fe 2+ -doped ZIF-8 nano-scaled metal-organic frameworks (FZ NMs) were fabricated and utilized to load doxorubicin (DOX), a chemotherapy drug, via hydrophobic, π-π stacking and charge interactions. The attained HA/PDA-covered DOX-carrying FZ NMs (HPDFZ NMs) promoted DOX and Fe 2+ release in weakly acidic and GSH-rich milieu and exhibited acidity-activated •OH generation. Through efficient CD44-mediated endocytosis, the HPDFZ NMs internalized by CT26 cells not only prominently enhanced •OH accumulation by consuming GSH via PDA-mediated Michael addition combined with Fe 2+ /Fe 3+ redox couple to cause mitochondria damage and lipid peroxidation, but also achieved intracellular DOX release, thus eliciting apoptosis and ferroptosis. Multifactorial diseases demand therapeutics that can modulate multiple targets for enhanced safety and efficacy, yet the clinical approval of multitarget drugs remains rare. The integration of machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) in drug discovery has revolutionized virtual screening. This study investigates the synergy between ML/DL methodologies, molecular representations, and data augmentation strategies. Notably, we found that SVM can match or even surpass the performance of state-of-the-art DL methods. However, conventional data augmentation often involves a trade-off between the true positive rate and false positive rate. To address this, we introduce Negative-Augmented PU-bagging (NAPU-bagging) SVM, a novel semi-supervised learning framework. By leveraging ensemble SVM classifiers trained on resampled bags containing positive, negative, and unlabeled data, our approach is capable of managing false positive rates while maintaining high recall rates. We applied this method to the identification of multitarget-directed ligands (MTDLs), where high recall rates are critical for compiling a list of interaction candidate compounds. Case studies demonstrate that NAPU-bagging SVM can identify structurally novel MTDL hits for ALK-EGFR with favorable docking scores and binding modes, as well as pan-agonists for dopamine receptors. The NAPU-bagging SVM methodology should serve as a promising avenue to virtual screening, especially for the discovery of MTDLs.

Objective: To compare the effectiveness of intraosseous versus intravenous vascular access in the treatment of adult patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest., Design: Cluster randomised controlled trial., Setting: The VICTOR (Venous Injection Compared To intraOsseous injection during resuscitation of patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest) trial involved emergency medical service agencies with all four advanced life support ambulance teams in Taipei City, Taiwan. The enrolment period spanned 6 July 2020 to 30 June 2023 and was temporarily suspended between 20 May 2021 and 31 July 2021 owing to the covid-19 pandemic., Participants: Adult (age 20-80 years) patients with non-traumatic out-of-hospital cardiac arrest., Interventions: Biweekly randomised clusters of four participating advanced life support ambulance teams were assigned to insert either intravenous or intraosseous access., Main Outcome Measures: The primary outcome was survival to hospital discharge. Secondary outcomes included return of spontaneous circulation, sustained return of spontaneous circulation (≥2 hours), and survival with favourable neurological outcomes (cerebral performance category score ≤2) at hospital discharge., Results: Among 1771 enrolled patients, 1732 (741 in the intraosseous group and 991 in the intravenous group) were included in the primary analysis (median age 65.0 years; 1234 (71.2%) men). In the intraosseous group, 79 (10.7%) patients were discharged alive, compared with 102 (10.3%) patients in the intravenous group (odds ratio 1.04, 95% confidence interval 0.76 to 1.42; P=0.81). The integrated stress response (ISR) is activated in response to intrinsic and extrinsic stimuli, playing a role in tumor progression and drug resistance. The regulatory role and mechanism of ISR in liver cancer, however, remain largely unexplored. Here, we demonstrate that OTU domain-containing protein 3 (OTUD3) is a deubiquitylase of eukaryotic initiation factor 2α (eIF2α), antagonizing ISR and suppressing liver cancer. OTUD3 decreases interactions between eIF2α and the kinase EIF2ΑK3 by removing K27-linked polyubiquitylation on eIF2α. OTUD3 deficiency in mice leads to enhanced ISR and accelerated progression of N-nitrosodiethylamine-induced hepatocellular carcinoma. Additionally, decreased OTUD3 expression associated with elevated eIF2α phosphorylation correlates with the progression of human liver cancer. Moreover, ISR activation due to decreased OTUD3 expression renders liver cancer cells resistant to sorafenib, while the combined use of the ISR inhibitor ISRIB significantly improves their sensitivity to sorafenib. The phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)-Akt axis is one of the most frequently activated pathways and is demonstrated as a therapeutic target in Kirsten rat sarcoma viral oncogene homolog (KRAS)-mutated colorectal cancer (CRC). Targeting the PI3K-Akt pathway has been a challenging undertaking through the decades. Here we unveiled an essential role of E3 ligase SMAD ubiquitylation regulatory factor 1 (Smurf1)-mediated phosphoinositide-dependent protein kinase 1 (PDK1) neddylation in PI3K-Akt signaling and tumorigenesis. Upon growth factor stimulation, Smurf1 immediately triggers PDK1 neddylation and the poly-neural precursor cell expressed developmentally downregulated protein 8 (poly-Nedd8) chains recruit methyltransferase SET domain bifurcated histone lysine methyltransferase 1 (SETDB1). The cytoplasmic complex of PDK1 assembled with Smurf1 and SETDB1 (cCOMPASS) consisting of PDK1, Smurf1 and SETDB1 directs Akt membrane attachment and T308 phosphorylation. Smurf1 deficiency dramatically reduces CRC tumorigenesis in a genetic mouse model. Furthermore, we developed a highly selective Smurf1 degrader, Smurf1-antagonizing repressor of tumor 1, which exhibits efficient PDK1-Akt blockade and potent tumor suppression alone or combined with PDK1 inhibitor in KRAS-mutated CRC. Nanozymes, nanostructured materials emulating natural enzyme activities, exhibit potential in catalyzing reactive oxygen species (ROS) production for cancer treatment. By facilitating oxidative reactions, elevating ROS levels, and influencing the tumor microenvironment (TME), nanozymes foster the eradication of cancer cells. Noteworthy are their superior stability, ease of preservation, and cost-effectiveness compared to natural enzymes, rendering them invaluable for medical applications. This comprehensive review intricately explores the interplay between ROS and tumor therapy, with a focused examination of metal-based nanozyme strategies mitigating tumor hypoxia. It provides nuanced insights into diverse catalytic processes, mechanisms, and surface modifications of various metal nanozymes, shedding light on their role in intra-tumoral ROS generation and applications in antioxidant therapy. Phthalate acid esters (PAEs) are one of the most widely used plasticizers globally, extensively employed in various decoration materials. However, studies on the impact of these materials on indoor environmental PAE pollution and their effects on human health are limited. In this study, forty dust samples were collected from four types of stores specializing in decoration materials (flooring, furniture boards, wall coverings, and household articles). The levels, sources, exposure doses, and potential health risks of PAEs in dust from decoration material stores were assessed. The total concentrations of Σ 9 PAE (the sum of nine PAEs) in dust from all decoration-material stores ranged from 46,100 ng/g to 695,000 ng/g, with a median concentration of 146,000 ng/g. DMP, DEP, DBP, and DEHP were identified as the predominant components. Among all stores, furniture board stores exhibited the highest Σ 9 PAE (159,000 ng/g, median value), while flooring stores exhibited the lowest (95,300 ng/g). Principal component analysis (PCA) showed that decoration materials are important sources of PAEs in the indoor environment. The estimated daily intakes of PAEs through non-dietary dust ingestion and dermal-absorption pathways among staff in various decoration-material stores were 60.0 and 0.470 ng/kg-bw/day (flooring stores), 113 and 0.780 ng/kg-bw/day (furniture board stores), 102 and 0.510 ng/kg-bw/day (wall covering stores), and 114 and 0.710 ng/kg-bw/day (household article stores). Particularly, staff in wall-covering and furniture-board stores exhibited relatively higher exposure doses of DEHP. Risk assessment indicated that although certain PAEs posed potential health risks, the exposure levels for staff in decoration material stores were within acceptable limits. However, staff in wall covering stores exhibited relatively higher risks, necessitating targeted risk-management strategies. This study provides new insights into understanding the risk associated with PAEs in indoor environments.

Background: In patients undergoing total joint arthroplasty (TJA), the administration of dexamethasone may contribute to perioperative blood glucose (BG) disturbances, potentially resulting in complications, even in patients without diabetes. This study aimed to demonstrate the impact of different administration regimens of dexamethasone in postoperative BG levels., Methods: In this randomized, controlled, double-blind trial, 136 patients without diabetes scheduled for TJA were randomly assigned to three groups: two perioperative saline injections (Group A, placebo); a single preoperative injection of 20 mg dexamethasone and a postoperative saline injection (Group B), and two perioperative injections of 10 mg dexamethasone (Group C). Primary outcomes were the postoperative fasting blood glucose (FBG) levels. Secondary outcome parameters were the postoperative postprandial blood glucose (PBG) levels. Postoperative complications within 90 days were also recorded. Risk factors for FBG ≥ 140 mg/dl and PBG ≥ 180 mg/dl were investigated., Results: Compared to Group A, there were transient increases in FBG and PBG on postoperative days (PODs) 0 and 1 in Groups B and C. Statistical differences in FBG and PBG among the three groups were nearly absent from POD 1 onward. Both dexamethasone regimens did not increase the risk for postoperative FBG ≥ 140 mg/dl or PBG ≥ 180 mg/dl. Elevated preoperative HbA1c levels may increase the risk of postoperative FBG ≥ 140 mg/dl or PBG ≥ 180 mg/dl, respectively., Conclusion: Perioperative intravenous high-dose dexamethasone to patients without diabetes has transient effects on increasing BG levels after TJA. However, no differences were found between the split-dose and single high-dose regimens. Drug resistance presents a significant challenge to achieving positive clinical outcomes in anti-tumor therapy. Prior research has illuminated reasons behind drug resistance, including increased drug efflux, alterations in drug targets, and abnormal activation of oncogenic pathways. However, there's a need for deeper investigation into the impact of drug-resistant cells on parental tumor cells and intricate crosstalk between tumor cells and the malignant tumor microenvironment (TME). Recent studies on extracellular vesicles (EVs) have provided valuable insights. EVs are membrane-bound particles secreted by all cells, mediating cell-to-cell communication. They contain functional cargoes like DNA, RNA, lipids, proteins, and metabolites from mother cells, delivered to other cells. Notably, EVs are increasingly recognized as regulators in the resistance to anti-cancer drugs. This review aims to summarize the mechanisms of EV-mediated anti-tumor drug resistance, covering therapeutic approaches like chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy and even radiotherapy. Detecting EV-based biomarkers to predict drug resistance assists in bypassing anti-tumor drug resistance. Additionally, targeted inhibition of EV biogenesis and secretion emerges as a promising approach to counter drug resistance. We highlight the importance of conducting in-depth mechanistic research on EVs, their cargoes, and functional approaches specifically focusing on EV subpopulations. Understanding the role of mechanical force on tissue nutrient transport is essential, as sustained force may affect nutrient levels within the disc and initiate disc degeneration. This study aims to evaluate the time-dependent effects of different compressive force amplitudes as well as tensile force on glucose concentration and cell viability within the disc. Based on the mechano-electrochemical mixture theory, a multiphasic finite element model of the lumbar intervertebral disc was developed. The minimum glucose concentration and minimum cell density in both normal and degenerated discs were predicted for different compressive force amplitudes, tensile force, and corresponding creep time. Under high compressive force, the minimum glucose concentration exhibited an increasing and then decreasing trend with creep time in the normal disc, whereas that of the degenerated disc increased, then decreased, and finally increased again. At steady state, a higher compressive force was accompanied by a lower glucose concentration distribution. In the degenerated disc, the minimum cell density was negatively correlated with creep time, with a greater range of affected tissue under a higher compressive force. For tensile force, the minimum glucose concentration of the degenerated disc raised over time. This study highlighted the importance of creep time, force magnitude, and force type in affecting nutrient concentration and cell viability. Purpose: Under-foot impact loadings can cause serious lower limb injuries in many activities, such as automobile collisions and underbody explosions to military vehicles. The present study aims to compare the biomechanical responses of the mainstream vehicle occupant dummies with the human body lower limb model and analyze their robustness and applicability for assessing lower limb injury risk in under-foot impact loading environments., Methods: The Hybrid III model, the test device for human occupant restraint (THOR) model, and a hybrid human body model with the human active lower limb model were adopted for under-foot impact analysis regarding different impact velocities and initial lower limb postures., Results: The results show that the 2 dummy models have larger peak tibial axial force and higher sensitivity to the impact velocities and initial postures than the human lower limb model. In particular, the Hybrid III dummy model presented extremely larger peak tibial axial forces than the human lower limb model. In the case of minimal difference in tibial axial force, Hybrid III's tibial axial force (7.5 KN) is still 312.5% that of human active lower limb's (2.4 KN). Even with closer peak tibial axial force values, the biomechanical response curve shapes of the THOR model show significant differences from the human lower limb model., Conclusion: Based on the present results, the Hybrid III dummy cannot be used to evaluate the lower limb injury risk in under-foot loading environments. Alternative splicing (AS) generates multiple RNA isoforms and increases the complexities of transcriptomes and proteomes. However, it remains unclear how RNA structures contribute to AS regulation. Here, we systematically search transcriptomes for secondary structures with concealed branch sites (BSs) in the alternatively spliced introns and predict thousands of them from six organisms, of which many are evolutionarily conserved. Intriguingly, a highly conserved stem-loop structure with concealed BSs is found in animal SF3B3 genes and colocalizes with a downstream poison exon (PE). Destabilization of this structure allows increased usage of the BSs and results in enhanced PE inclusion in human and Drosophila cells, leading to decreased expression of SF3B3. This structure is experimentally validated using an in-cell SHAPE-MaP assay. Through RNA interference screens of 28 RNA-binding proteins, we find that this stem-loop structure is sensitive to U2 factors. Furthermore, we find that SF3B3 also facilitates DNA repair and protects genome stability by enhancing interaction between ERCC6/CSB and arrested RNA polymerase II. Importantly, both Drosophila and human cells with the secondary structure mutated by genome editing exhibit altered DNA repair in vivo. Poor interfacial quality and low refractive index contrast (Δ n ) are critical challenges for the development of high-performance one-dimensional photonic crystals (1DPhCs) via solution methods that impede their optical efficiency. Herein, we introduce an innovative approach by hybridizing hollow SiO 2 with poly(vinyl alcohol), referred to as PHS, followed by alternate assembly with TiO 2 via spin-coating, achieving a 1DPhC with Δ n = 0.76 at the wavelength of 550 nm. This method circumvents the need for high-temperature treatment and complex curing conditions, resulting in a 1DPhC with superior interfacial and optical characteristics. By adjusting the thickness of the PHS layers, we can finely tune the reflectance spectrum, attaining over 99% reflectance at the photonic band gap. Furthermore, 1DPhC demonstrates excellent adhesion to polycarbonate substrates and retains its optimal optical performance even after rigorous environmental testing, including hygrothermal cycles, exposure to hot water, friction, and solvent sonication. This research paves the way for the facile fabrication of high-performance 1DPhCs under mild conditions, offering new perspectives for photonic material processing.

Purpose: This study aims to investigate the relationship between Sodium Glucose Co-transporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) treatment and fibrosis in patients with Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) combined with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) and Major Adverse Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Events (MACCEs)., Methods: A case-control study was conducted, involving 280 patients with MASLD combined with T2DM treated at the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University from January 2014 to October 2023. Among these patients, 135 received SGLT2i treatment. The association between the Fibrosis-4 (FIB-4) index and the occurrence of MACCEs, as well as the association between the Aspartate Aminotransferase-to-Platelet Ratio Index (APRI) scores and MACCEs, were evaluated., Results: The FIB-4 index and APRI scores were significantly lower in the SGLT2i treatment group compared to the non-SGLT2i group (1.59 vs 1.25, P <0.001). SGLT2i treatment tended to reduce the occurrence of MACCEs compared to non-SGLT2i treatment (45.5% vs 38.5%, P =0.28). All patients who developed MACCEs in the non-SGLT2i treatment group had higher FIB-4 index (1.83 vs 1.35, P =0.003). Additionally, after SGLT2i treatment for a median duration of 22 months, patients showed significant reductions in blood glucose, APRI, and FIB-4 index., Conclusion: SGLT2i treatment significantly reduces the occurrence of MACCEs and liver fibrosis in patients with MASLD combined with T2DM. Aims: Existing research indicates that patients with heart failure (HF) may have restricted access to guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) when their blood pressure (BP) is comparatively low. However, recent clinical trials suggest that HF patients with low BP could still benefit from certain HF medications, which have a minimal impact on BP. This systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to determine whether this applies to all GDMT., Methods and Results: A systematic search of MEDLINE and EMBASE was conducted for studies published from inception to 10 January 2024. Randomized controlled trials were selected if they reported on the longitudinal change of systolic BP (SBP) due to GDMT, or the risks of cardiovascular events in HF patients based on SBP categories. Weighted mean difference (WMD), hazard ratio or relative risk, and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CI) were pooled for meta-analysis where possible. Data from 20 studies, encompassing information on 84 782 individuals, were analysed. Overall, GDMT is associated with lower SBP (WMD, -2.16; 95% CI -2.86 to -1.46), with no significant difference between baseline low and non-low BP subgroups (interaction p = 0.810). However, SBP of the treatment group increased by 5.8 mmHg from baseline in the low SBP subgroup during follow-up, while it decreased by 4.0 mmHg in the baseline non-low SBP subgroup. GDMT demonstrated similar cardiovascular benefits and risk of hypotension between low and non-low SBP subgroups (interaction p = 0.318 and 0.903, respectively)., Conclusions: Guideline-directed medical therapy is associated with a negligible decrease in SBP, but can provide similar cardiovascular benefits in both low and non-low SBP HF patients, with no significant interaction with SBP as to hypotension. Background/purpose: Blended learning offers the advantages of both instructor-led and self-instruction methods in basic life support (BLS). Our study aims to compare the effects of blended learning with those of traditional instructor-led methods on the performance of laypersons taking BLS courses., Methods: A total of 108 participants were randomly assigned to three groups: traditional instruction (group A, n = 36), blended learning with two rounds of practice (group B, n = 36), and blended learning with three rounds of practice (group C, n = 36). Group A received a 90-min lecture and a 30-min hands-on practice session using a manikin and a metronome. Participants in groups B and C received 18-min standardized online video lessons and performed hands-on practice twice and thrice, respectively. The primary outcome was chest compression at a correct speed (100-120 compressions per min) after the training course. Secondary outcomes included knowledge test scores, attitudes and confidence, and individual skill performance after training., Results: Patient characteristics were similar between the groups. Blended learning with practicing thrice resulted in the highest compressions at a correct speed (group A vs. B vs. C, 68.09 vs 80.03 vs 89.42, p = 0.015) and the shortest average hands-off time (group A vs. B vs. C, 1.12 vs 0.86 vs 0.17 s, p = 0.015). Both blended groups performed better in confirming environmental safety (p < 0.001). The aim of this work was to explore the differences between various pharmaceutical processes in combined solutions of a single decoction (QGHBY) and a combined decoction (QGHJY) of Qi-Ge decoction from the perspective of chemical composition changes, so as to further guide the clinical application of drugs. A combined solution of a single decoction and a combined decoction of Astragali Radix, Puerariae Lobatae Radix and Citri Reticulatae Chachiensis Pericarpium was prepared with the same technological parameters. The chemical components of the two were detected and identified based on UPLC-Q-TOF/MS, and the different components were determined by principal component analysis. Eighty-eight compounds were identified in the pharmaceutical solution of Qi-Ge decoction. Principal component analysis revealed 11 different components of QGHBY and QGHJY with the conditions of Variable Importance in Projection (VIP)  ≥ 1, fold change ≥ 2 and p < 0.05, among which hesperidin, hesperitin, isosinensetin, sinensetin and 5-demethylnobiletin were the components of Citri Reticulatae Chachiensis Pericarpium. The levels of these 11 different components in QGHJY were higher than those of QGHBY. Heavy metal poisoning of soil from oil spills causes serious environmental problems worldwide. Various causes and effects of heavy metal pollution in the soil environment are discussed in this article. In addition, this study explores new approaches to cleaning up soil that has been contaminated with heavy metals as a result of oil spills. Furthermore, it provides a thorough analysis of recent developments in remediation methods, such as novel nano-based approaches, chemical amendments, bioremediation, and phytoremediation. The objective of this review is to provide a comprehensive overview of the removal of heavy metals from oil-contaminated soils. This review emphasizes on the integration of various approaches and the development of hybrid approaches that combine various remediation techniques in a synergistic way to improve sustainability and efficacy. The study places a strong emphasis on each remediation strategy that can be applied in the real-world circumstances while critically evaluating its effectiveness, drawbacks, and environmental repercussions. Additionally, it discusses the processes that reduce heavy metal toxicity and improve soil health, taking into account elements like interactions between plants and microbes, bioavailability, and pollutant uptake pathways. Background: In patients undergoing total joint arthroplasty, the use of dexamethasone (DEX) may cause perioperative blood glucose (BG) disorders, leading to complications even in patients who do not have diabetes. We aimed to evaluate the effects of different DEX doses on perioperative BG levels., Methods: A total of 135 patients who do not have diabetes were randomized into three groups: preoperative intravenous (IV) injection of normal saline (Group A, the placebo group), preoperative IV injection of 10 mg DEX (Group B), and preoperative IV injection of 20 mg DEX (Group C). Postoperative fasting BG (FBG) levels were designated as the primary outcome, while postoperative postprandial BG (PBG) levels were assigned as the secondary outcome. The incidence of complications was recorded. We also investigated the risk factors for FBG ≥ 140 mg/dL and PBG ≥ 180 mg/dL., Results: The FBG levels were higher in Groups B and C than in Group A on postoperative days (PODs) 0 and 1. The PBG levels were lower for Groups A and B compared to Group C on POD 1. No differences in FBG or PBG were detected beyond POD 1. Elevated preoperative glycosylated hemoglobin A1c levels increased the risk of FBG ≥ 140 mg/dL and PBG ≥ 180 mg/dL, respectively. However, preoperative IV injection of DEX was not associated with FBG ≥ 140 mg/dL or PBG ≥ 180 mg/dL. No differences were found in postoperative complications among the three groups., Conclusions: The preoperative IV administration of 10 or 20 mg DEX in patients who do not have diabetes showed transient effects on postoperative BG after total joint arthroplasty. Oxidative cross-coupling is a powerful strategy to form C-heteroatom bonds. However, oxidative cross-coupling for constructing C-S bond is still a challenge due to sulfur overoxidation and poisoning transition-metal catalysts. Now, electrochemical redox relay using sulfur radicals formed in situ from inorganic sulfur source offers a solution to this problem. Herein, electrochemical redox relay-induced C-S radical cross-coupling of quinoxalinones and ammonium thiocyanate with bromine anion as mediator is presented. The electrochemical redox relay comprised initially the formation of sulfur radical via indirect electrochemical oxidation, simultaneous electrochemical reduction of the imine bond, electro-oxidation-triggered radical coupling involving dearomatization-rearomatization, and the reformation of the imine bond through anodic oxidation. Applying this strategy, various quinoxalinones bearing multifarious electron-deficient/-rich substituents at different positions were well compatible with moderate to excellent yields and good steric hindrance compatibility under constant current conditions in an undivided cell without transition-metal catalysts and additional redox reagents. Synthetic applications of this methodology were demonstrated through gram-scale preparation and follow-up transformation. Notably, such a unique strategy may offer new opportunities for the development of new quinoxalinone-core leads.

Non-radiative recombination losses limit the property of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Here, a synergistic strategy of SnSe 2 QDs doping into SnO 2 and chlorhexidine acetate (CA) coating on the surface of perovskite is proposed. The introduction of 2D SnSe 2 QDs reduces the oxygen vacancy defects and increases the carrier mobility of SnO 2 . The optimized SnO 2 as a buried interface obviously improves the crystallization quality of perovskite. The CA containing abundant active sites of ─NH 2 /─NH─, ─C═N, CO, ─Cl groups passivate the defects on the surface and grain boundary of perovskite. The alkyl chain of CA also improves the hydrophobicity of perovskite. Moreover, the synergism of SnSe 2 QDs and CA releases the residual stress and regulates the energy level arrangement at the top and bottom interface of perovskite. Benefiting from these advantages, the bulk and interface non-radiative recombination loss is greatly suppressed and thereby increases the carrier transport and extraction in devices. As a result, the best power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 23.41% for rigid PSCs and the best PCE of 21.84% for flexible PSCs are reached. The rigid PSC maintains 89% of initial efficiency after storing nitrogen for 3100 h. Electrochemiluminescence (ECL) imaging, a rapidly evolving technology, has attracted significant attention in the field of cellular imaging. However, its primary limitation lies in its inability to analyze the motion behaviors of individual particles in live cellular environments. In this study, we leveraged the exceptional ECL properties of quantum dots (QDs) and the excellent electrochemical properties of carbon dots (CDs) to develop a high-brightness ECL nanoprobe (CDs-QDs) for real-time ECL imaging between living cells. This nanoprobe has excellent signal-to-noise ratio imaging capabilities for the single-particle tracking (SPT) of biomolecules. Our finding elucidated the enhanced ECL mechanism of CDs-QDs in the presence of reactive oxygen species through photoluminescence, electrochemistry, and ECL techniques. We further tracked the movement of single particles on membrane nanotubes between live cells and confirmed that the ECL-based SPT technique using CD-QD nanoparticles is an effective approach for monitoring the transport behaviors of biomolecules on membrane nanotubes between live cells. This opens a promising avenue for the advancement of ECL-based single-particle detection and the dynamic quantitative imaging of biomolecules.

Capturing CO 2 using clamshell/eggshell-derived CaO adsorbent can not only reduce carbon emissions but also alleviate the impact of trash on the environment. However, organic acid was usually used, high-temperature calcination was often performed, and CO 2 was inevitably released during preparing CaO adsorbents from shell wastes. In this work, CaO-based CO 2 adsorbent was greenly prepared by calcium-induced hydrogenation of clamshell and eggshell wastes in one pot at room/moderate temperature. CO 2 adsorption experiments were performed in a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA). The adsorption performance of the adsorbents obtained from the mechanochemical reaction (BM-C/E-CaO) was superior to that of the adsorbents obtained from the thermochemical reaction (Cal-C/E-CaO). The CO 2 adsorption capacity of BM-C-CaO at 650 °C is up to 36.82 wt%, but the adsorption decay rate of the sample after 20 carbonation/calcination cycles is only 30.17%. Background: The tumor microbiome has been characterized in several malignancies; however, no previous studies have investigated its role in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC). Hence, we explored the tumor microbiome and its association with prognosis in ICC., Methods: One hundred and twenty-one ICC tumor samples and 89 adjacent normal tissues were profiled by 16S rRNA sequencing. Microbial differences between tumor and adjacent nontumoral liver tissues were assessed. Tumor microbial composition was then evaluated to detect its association with prognosis. Finally, a risk score calculated by the tumor microbiota was accessed by the least absolute shrinkage and selector operator method (Lasso) to predict prognosis of ICC., Results: The tumor microbiome displayed a greater diversity than that in adjacent nontumoral liver tissues. Tumor samples were characterized by a higher abundance of Firmicutes, Actinobacteria, Bacteroidetes, and Acidobacteriota. Higher tumor microbial α diversity was associated with lymph node metastasis and predicted shortened overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS). A total of 11 bacteria were selected to generate the risk score by Lasso. Rationale: Recently N-Fluoroarenesulfonamides (ArSO 2 NHF) were found to be promising precursors for the preparation of N-fluorobenzenesulfonimide derivatives without applying F 2 . However, very few studies have discussed the mass spectrometric behaviors of ArSO 2 NHF with N-F structure., Methods: In this article, we applied high-resolution electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (HR-ESI-MS/MS) to study the effect on the mass spectrometric behaviors of ArSO 2 NHF after the introduction of the F-atom to the N-atom of ArSO 2 NH 2 ., Results: High-resolution electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (HR-ESI-MS) experiments showed that ArSO 2 NHF produced only good signals in negative ion mode, and the dominating product ion SO 2 F - at m/z 83 was observed in all HR-ESI-MS/MS of ArSO 2 NF - with different substituents in the Ar group. The formation of the product ion SO 2 F - was proof of the gas-phase F-atom migration rearrangement from the N-atom to the S-atom in ESI-MS/MS of ArSO 2 NF - ., Conclusion: To fully explain the gas-phase reaction mechanism from ArSO 2 NF - to SO 2 F - , we studied the HR-ESI-MS/MS of deprotonated ArSO 2 NHF and also performed theoretical calculations. Both results confirmed that ArSO 2 NF - first underwent Smiles rearrangement to yield intermediate I (INT1) ArNFSO 2 - , and then the F-atom of ArNFSO 2 - migrated from the N-atom to the S-atom to form intermediate II (INT2) ArN - SO 2 F, which finally dissociated to SO 2 F - at m/z 83 with loss of a neutral nitrene (ArN). The repair of bone tissue damage is a complex process that is well-orchestrated in time and space, a focus and difficulty in orthopedic treatment. In recent years, the success of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs)-mediated bone repair in clinical trials of large-area bone defects and bone necrosis has made it a candidate in bone tissue repair engineering and regenerative medicine. MSCs are closely related to macrophages. On one hand, MSCs regulate the immune regulatory function by influencing macrophages proliferation, infiltration, and phenotype polarization, while also affecting the osteoclasts differentiation of macrophages. On the other hand, macrophages activate MSCs and mediate the multilineage differentiation of MSCs by regulating the immune microenvironment. The cross-talk between MSCs and macrophages plays a crucial role in regulating the immune system and in promoting tissue regeneration. Objective: This study investigated the impact of occupational mercury (Hg) exposure on human gene transcription and expression, and its potential biological mechanisms., Methods: Differentially expressed genes related to Hg exposure were identified and validated using gene expression microarray analysis and extended validation. Hg-exposed cell models and PTEN low-expression models were established in vitro using 293T cells. PTEN gene expression was assessed using qRT-PCR, and Western blotting was used to measure PTEN, AKT, and PI3K protein levels. IL-6 expression was determined by ELISA., Results: Combined findings from gene expression microarray analysis, bioinformatics, and population expansion validation indicated significant downregulation of the PTEN gene in the high-concentration Hg exposure group. In the Hg-exposed cell model (25 and 10 μmol/L), a significant decrease in PTEN expression was observed, accompanied by a significant increase in PI3K, AKT, and IL-6 expression. Cyclic annulation involving diaryliodonium salts is an efficient tool for the construction of two or more chemical bonds in a one-pot process. Ortho -functionalized diaryliodonium salts have showcased distinct reactivity in the exploration of benzocyclization or arylocyclization. With this strategy of ortho -ester-substituted diaryliodonium salts, herein, we utilized a copper catalyst to activate the C-I bond of diaryliodonium salts in the generation of aryl radicals, thus resulting in an annulation reaction with naphthols and substituted phenols. Peristaltic movements in gut are essential to propel ingested materials through the gastrointestinal tract. Intestinal resident macrophages play an important role in this physiological function through protecting enteric neurons. However, it is incompletely clear how individuals maintain the homeostasis of gut motility. Here we found that NLRP3 is a critical factor in controlling loss of muscularis resident macrophages (MMs), and demonstrate that MMs are involved in the homeostasis of excitatory neurons such as choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) + and vesicular glutamate transporter 2 (VGLUT2) + but not inhibitory neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) + neurons. NLRP3 knockout (KO) mice had enhanced gut motility and increased neurons, especially excitatory ChAT + and VGLUT2 + neurons. Single cell analyses showed that there had increased resident macrophages, especially MMs in NLRP3 KO mice. The MM proportion in the resident macrophages was markedly higher than those in wild-type (WT) or caspase 1/11 KO mice. Deletion of the MMs and transplantation of the NLRP3 KO bone marrow cells showed that survival of the gut excitatory ChAT + and VGLUT2 + neurons was dependent on the MMs. Gut microbiota metabolites β-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) could promote gut motility through protecting MMs from pyroptosis. Background: Childhoods in urban or rural environments may differentially affect the risk of neuropsychiatric disorders, possibly through memory processing and neural response to emotional stimuli. Genetic factors may not only influence individuals' choices of residence but also modulate how the living environment affects responses to episodic memory., Methods: We investigated the effects of childhood urbanicity on episodic memory in 410 adults (discovery sample) and 72 adults (replication sample) with comparable socioeconomic statuses in Beijing, China, distinguishing between those with rural backgrounds (resided in rural areas before age 12 and relocated to urban areas at or after age 12) and urban backgrounds (resided in cities before age 12). We examined the effect of childhood urbanicity on brain function across encoding and retrieval sessions using an fMRI episodic memory paradigm involving the processing of neutral or aversive pictures. Moreover, genetic association analyses were conducted to understand the potential genetic underpinnings that might contribute to memory processing and neural mechanisms influenced by early-life urban or rural environments., Results: Episodic memory retrieval accuracy for more difficult neutral stimuli was similar between those with urban and rural childhoods, whereas aversive stimuli elicited higher retrieval accuracy in the urban group (P = 0.023). For aversive stimuli, subjects with urban childhood had relatively decreased engagement of the striatum at encoding and decreased engagement of the hippocampus at retrieval. This more efficient striatal encoding of aversive stimuli in those with urban childhoods was associated with common variation in neurotrophic tyrosine kinase receptor type 2 (NTRK2) (right striatum: P = 1.58×10 -6 ). These findings were confirmed in the replication sample., Conclusions: We suggest that this differential striatal processing of aversive stimuli observed in individuals with urban or rural childhoods may represent mechanisms by which childhood urbanicity may affect brain circuits, heightening behavioral responses to negative stressors associated with urban environments. Aims: The dysregulation of TGF-β signaling is a crucial pathophysiological process in tumorigenesis and progression. LncRNAs have diverse biological functions and are significant participants in the regulation of tumor signaling pathways. However, the clinical value of lncRNAs related to TGF-β signaling in glioma is currently unclear., Methods: Data on glioma's RNA-seq transcriptome, somatic mutation, DNA methylation data, and clinicopathological information were derived from the CGGA and TCGA databases. A prognostic lncRNA signature was constructed by Cox and LASSO regression analyses. TIMER2.0 database was utilized to deduce immune infiltration characteristics. "ELMER v.2" was used to reconstruct TF-methylation-gene regulatory network. Immunotherapy and chemotherapy response predictions were implemented by the TIDE algorithm and GDSC database, respectively. In vitro and in vivo experiments were conducted to verify the results and clarify the regulatory mechanism of lncRNA., Results: In glioma, a TGF-β signaling-related 15-lncRNA signature was constructed, including AC010173.1, HOXA-AS2, AC074286.1, AL592424.1, DRAIC, HOXC13-AS, AC007938.1, AC010729.1, AC013472.3, AC093895.1, AC131097.4, AL606970.4, HOXC-AS1, AGAP2-AS1, and AC002456.1. This signature proved to be a reliable prognostic tool, with high risk indicating an unfavorable prognosis and being linked to malignant clinicopathological and genomic mutation traits. Risk levels were associated with different immune infiltration landscapes, where high risk was indicative of high levels of macrophage infiltration. In addition, high risk also suggested better immunotherapy and chemotherapy response. cg05987823 was an important methylation site in glioma progression, and AP-1 transcription factor family participated in the regulation of signature lncRNA expression. AGAP2-AS1 knockdown in in vitro and in vivo experiments inhibited the proliferation, migration, and invasion of glioma cells, as well as the growth of glioma, by downregulating the expression levels of NF-κB and ERK 1/2 in the TGF-β signaling pathway., Conclusions: A prognostic lncRNA signature of TGF-β signaling was established in glioma, which can be used for prognostic judgment, immune infiltration status inference, and immunotherapy response prediction. Background: Preclinical and epidemiological studies suggest that proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) had a potential effect on the development of SLE, but it was unclear whether a causal relationship exists. We aimed to investigate the association between genetically proxied inhibition of PCSK9 and the risk of SLE using a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) approach., Methods: Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with PCSK9 were extracted from pooled data obtained from the Global Lipid Genetics Consortium (GLGC) Genome-wide Association Study (GWAS) related to LDL-c levels, which was used as a proxy for PCSK9 inhibition. Pooled statistics for SLE were obtained from an independent GWAS dataset including 5201 SLE patients and 9066 controls. Inverse variance-weighted random-effects models were used to examine the association between genetically proxied inhibition of PCSK9 and the risk of SLE. MR-Egger, weighted median, weighted mode, Simple mode, and co-location analyses were used as sensitivity analyses to test the robustness of the analyses., Results: Genetically proxied inhibition of PCSK9 was associated with a reduced risk of SLE (OR = 0.51, 95% CI = 0.34 to 0.77, p = .001). This finding was replicated in an earlier GLGC GWAS analysis (OR = 0.59, 95% CI = 0.40 to 0.87, p = .007). Sensitivity analysis ensured that the results were robust. Co-localization analysis did not find evidence of shared causal variation between PCSK9 and SLE., Conclusions: This Mendelian randomization study showed that PCSK9 was associated with SLE pathogenesis, and its inhibition was associated with a reduced risk of SLE. Radix Fici Simplicissimae (RFS) is widely studied, and is in demand for its value in medicines and food products, with increased scientific focus on its cultivation and breeding. We used ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography quadrupole-orbitrap mass spectrometry-based metabolomics to elucidate the similarities and differences in phytochemical compositions of wild Radix Fici Simplicissimae (WRFS) and cultivated Radix Fici Simplicissimae (CRFS). Untargeted metabolomic analysis was performed with multivariate statistical analysis and heat maps to identify the differences. Eighty one compounds were identified from WRFS and CRFS samples. Principal component analysis and orthogonal partial least squares discrimination analysis indicated that mass spectrometry could effectively distinguish WRFS from CRFS. Among these, 17 potential biomarkers with high metabolic contents could distinguish between the two varieties, including seven phenylpropanoids, three flavonoids, one flavonol, one alkaloid, one glycoside, and four organic acids. Notably, psoralen, apigenin, and bergapten, essential metabolites that play a substantial pharmacological role in RFS, are upregulated in WRFS. WRFS and CRFS are rich in phytochemicals and are similar in terms of the compounds they contain. These findings highlight the effects of different growth environments and drug varieties on secondary metabolite compositions and provide support for targeted breeding for improved CRFS varieties., (© 2024. Background: In China, the rising prevalence of high Body Mass Index (BMI) is linked to increasing health issues, including Alzheimer's disease (AD). This study analyzes mortality trends related to AD and other dementias associated with high BMI from 1990 to 2019, considering age, period, and birth cohort effects, and forecasts future trends., Methods: We analyzed mortality data for AD and other dementias linked to high BMI in Chinese residents from the Global Burden of Disease 2019 database. Using Joinpoint regression, we examined age-standardized mortality rate (ASMR) trends and calculated annual and average annual percentage changes (APC and AAPC). Age-period-cohort models provided deeper insights, with Bayesian models used to project future ASMR trends to 2042., Results: From 1990 to 2019, the ASMR for AD and other dementias associated with high BMI in China showed an overall increasing trend. Females had a lower increase rate than males, yet their overall levels remained higher. Specifically, the ASMR for males increased by an average of 2.70% per year, peaking between 2006 and 2010, while for females, it increased by an average of 2.29% per year, also peaking in the same period. Age-period-cohort analysis revealed increasing mortality relative risk with age and period, but a decrease with birth cohort. Projections suggest a continued rise in ASMR by 2042, with rates for males and females expected to be 2.48/100,000 and 2.94/100,000, respectively., Conclusion: The increasing mortality trend from AD and other dementias associated with high BMI highlights the urgent need for policy interventions focused on overweight prevention, particularly vital for addressing the health challenges in China's aging population., (© 2024. Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) is common in preterm infants and may result in pulmonary vascular disease, compromising lung function. This study aimed to employ artificial intelligence (AI) techniques to help physicians accurately diagnose BPD in preterm infants in a timely and efficient manner. This retrospective study involves two datasets: a lung region segmentation dataset comprising 1491 chest radiographs of infants, and a BPD prediction dataset comprising 1021 chest radiographs of preterm infants. Transfer learning of a pre-trained machine learning model was employed for lung region segmentation and image fusion for BPD prediction to enhance the performance of the AI model. The lung segmentation model uses transfer learning to achieve a dice score of 0.960 for preterm infants with ≤ 168 h postnatal age. The BPD prediction model exhibited superior diagnostic performance compared to that of experts and demonstrated consistent performance for chest radiographs obtained at ≤ 24 h postnatal age, and those obtained at 25 to 168 h postnatal age. This study is the first to use deep learning on preterm chest radiographs for lung segmentation to develop a BPD prediction model with an early detection time of less than 24 h. Additionally, this study compared the model's performance according to both NICHD and Jensen criteria for BPD. Aerogels with 3D porous structures have been attracting increasing attention among functional materials due to their advantages of being lightweight and high specific surface area. Precise control of the porous structure of aerogel is essential to improve its performance. In this work, polylactic acid (PLA) aerogels with distinctly different microstructures were fabricated by precisely controlling the phase separation behavior of the ternary solution system. Rheological and theoretical analyses have revealed that the interactions between polymer molecules, solvents and non-solvents play a crucial role in determining the nucleation and growth of poor olymer and rich polymer phases. By adjusting the non-solvent type and the solution composition, aerogels with spider network structure, bead-like connected microsphere structure, and cluster petal structure were obtained. Ideal spinodal phase separation conditions were obtained to produce aerogels with a homogeneous fiber network structure. The optimum PLA aerogel achieved an extremely porosity of 96 % and a high specific surface area of 114 m 2 /g, which rendered it with excellent triboelectric generation performance. Background: Major trauma is a leading cause of unexpected death globally, with increasing age-adjusted death rates for unintentional injuries. Field triage schemes (FTSs) assist emergency medical technicians in identifying appropriate medical care facilities for patients. While full FTSs may improve sensitivity, step-by-step field triage is time-consuming. A simplified FTS (sFTS) that uses only physiological and anatomical criteria may offer a more rapid decision-making process. However, evidence for this approach is limited, and its performance in identifying all age groups requiring trauma center resources in Asia remains unclear., Methods: We conducted a multinational retrospective cohort study involving adult trauma patients admitted to emergency departments in the included countries from 2016 to 2020. Prehospital and hospital data were reviewed from the Pan-Asia Trauma Outcomes Study database. Patients aged ≥18 years transported by emergency medical services were included. Patients lacking data regarding age, sex, physiological criteria, or injury severity scores were excluded. We examined the performance of sFTS in all age groups and fine-tuned physiological criteria to improve sFTS performance in identifying high-risk trauma patients in different age groups., Results: The sensitivity and specificity of the physiological and anatomical criteria for identifying major trauma (injury severity score ≥ 16) were 80.6% and 58.8%, respectively. The modified sFTS showed increased sensitivity and decreased specificity, with more pronounced changes in the young age group. Adding the shock index further increased sensitivity in both age groups., Conclusions: sFTS using only physiological and anatomical criteria is suboptimal for Asian adult patients with trauma of all age groups. Adjusting the physiological criteria and adding a shock index as a triage tool can improve the sensitivity of severely injured patients, particularly in young age groups. This study explored the complex triangular relationships between parenting styles, personality traits, and depressive trait in Chinese Han adults (N = 490; Mean age=24.25; 51.0% women), and examined the relationship between parenting styles and brain structure. The data indicated that depressive trait in adulthood were negatively correlated with a favorable parenting style (emotional warmth) and positively correlated with undesirable parenting styles (punishment, rejection, and overprotection/over-intervention). Additionally, depressive trait in adulthood were positively related to neuroticism and psychoticism, and negatively related to extraversion. Using a multiple parallel mediation analysis, we found that neuroticism could be worsened by undesirable parenting styles and ameliorated by favorable parenting styles, and it further mediated the relationship between parenting styles and depressive trait across all models. Psychoticism played a similar role in two models: 1) parental punishment and depressive trait and 2) parental rejection and depressive trait. Extraversion played a mediating role between the father's overprotection and depressive trait. Subgroup analysis showed that different mediating pathways existed between different sexes. In terms of brain structure, we found that gray matter volume of the right inferior frontal gyrus was negatively related to overprotection by the father and positively related to psychoticism. The classical view of the structural changes that occur at the ferroelectric transition in perovskite-structured systems, such as BaTiO 3 , is that polarization occurs due to the off-center displacement of the B-site cations. Here, we show that in the bismuth sodium titanate (BNT)-based composition 0.2(Ba 0.4 Sr 0.6 TiO 3 )-0.8(Bi 0.5 Na 0.5 TiO 3 ), this model does not accurately describe the structural situation. Such BNT-based systems are of interest as lead-free alternatives to currently used materials in a variety of piezo-/ferroelectric applications. A combination of high-resolution powder neutron diffraction, impedance spectroscopy, and ab initio calculations reveals that Ti 4+ contributes less than a third in magnitude to the overall polarization and that the displacements of the O 2- ions and the A-site cations, particularly Bi 3+ , are very significant. The detailed examination of the ferroelectric transition in this system offers insights applicable to the understanding of such transitions in other ferroelectric perovskites, particularly those containing lone pair elements.

Labeling the genome and envelope of a virus with multicolor quantum dots (QDs) simultaneously enables real-time monitoring of viral uncoating and genome release, contributing to our understanding of virus infection mechanisms. However, current labeling techniques require genetic modification, which alters the virus's composition and infectivity. To address this, we utilized the CRISPR/Cas13 system and a bioorthogonal metabolic method to label the Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) genome and envelopes with different-colored QDs in situ. This technique allows one-step two-color labeling of the viral envelope and intraviral genome with QDs harnessing virus infection. In combination with single-virus tracking, we visualized JEV uncoating and genome release in real time near the endoplasmic reticulum of live cells. This labeling strategy allows for real-time visualization of uncoating and genome release at the single-virus level, and it is expected to advance the study of other viral infection mechanisms.
