Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a major cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Chemotherapy using cisplatin, a drug that damages deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), is not very effective in treating HCC due to its side effects and drug resistance. Manganese (Mn 2+ ), a trace element, has been shown to enhance immune responses, but its ability to improve cisplatin-induced antitumor immunity in HCC remains unclear. The present study found that treatment with Mn 2+ in combination with cisplatin promoted cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS)-stimulator of interferon genes (STING) signaling activation and C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 10 (CXCL10) production in tumor and dendritic cells. CXCL10 is associated with CD8A levels, and its high expression is linked to better prognosis in patients with HCC. In addition, Mn 2+ and cisplatin co-treatment enhanced the recruitment of CD8 + T cells through the CXCL10/CXCR3 axis. Similarly, in an orthotopic transplantation tumor model, STING activation, CD8 + T cell infiltration, and tumor cell killing levels were higher in the combined treatment group. In pursuit of high- T c hydride superconductors, the molecular hydrides have attracted less attention because the hydrogen quasimolecules are usually inactive for superconductivity. Here, we report on the successful synthesis of a novel bismuth hydride superconductor C 2/ c -BiH 4 at pressures around 170-180 GPa. Its structure comprises bismuth atoms and elongated hydrogen molecules with a H-H bond length of 0.81 Å at 170 GPa, characterizing it as a typical molecular hydride. Transport measurements revealed the occurrence of superconductivity with T c up to 91 K at 170 GPa, as evidenced by a sharp drop of resistivity to zero and a characteristic downward shift of T c under magnetic fields. Calculations by density functional theory elucidate that both midfrequency H-derived phonons and low-frequency vibrations from Bi atoms are important for the strong electron-phonon coupling in BiH 4 , differentiating it from most high- T c superconducting hydrides. Our work not only places C 2/ c -BiH 4 among the molecular hydride superconductors with the highest T c but also offers new directions for designing and synthesizing more high- T c hydride superconductors.

Global climate change has significantly increased the duration of droughts in intermittent rivers, impacting benthic microbial-mediated biogeochemical processes. However, the response mechanisms of biofilms on different substrate types to alternating dry and wet conditions and their related ecosystem functions remain poorly understood. This study uses high-throughput sequencing and enzyme assays to investigate the impact of gradient drought stress on microbial diversity and functional changes of biofilm communities inhabiting on gravel, cobblestone, and sediment. Results showed that the duration of drought significantly affects microbial diversity, with algal and bacterial α-diversity declining under extended drought across gravel, cobblestone, and sediment substrates. At the same time, fungal diversity was less affected, likely due to their distinct ecological niches and reproductive strategies. β-diversity analysis revealed significant changes in community heterogeneity, with algae and bacteria showing increased Bray-Curtis dissimilarities, indicating distinct adaptation strategies that may affect ecosystem functioning. Fungal communities, however, were less impacted by drought-induced heterogeneity changes. Network analysis showed that drought altered microbial network connectivity, with algal networks displaying decreased path distances, while bacterial networks remained stable, suggesting greater resilience to drought stress. Functional enzyme assays revealed significantly reduced denitrification rates across all substrates post-drought, with distinct denitrifying enzyme activity responses depending on substrate type. Partial least squares path modeling revealed that algal biodiversity were closely linked to the maintaining of enzyme activities, particularly denitrification rates of biofilms on cobblestone and gravel. These findings indicated the critical role of substrate types in shaping microbial responses to drought stress, with distinct microbial groups and diversity indices playing key roles in maintaining ecosystem functions. Background: Increased levels of remnant cholesterol (RC) and inflammation are linked to higher risks of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Whether a combination of C-reactive protein (CRP) and RC improves the predictive ability for evaluating the severity of coronary artery lesions remains unknown., Methods: A total of 1675 patients with coronary artery disease were stratified according to the Synergy Between Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (SYNTAX) score (SYNTAX score ≤22 versus SYNTAX score >22). Logistic regression and restricted cubic spline models were used to evaluate the relationship between RC, CRP and the severity of coronary artery lesions. Multivariate logistic regression was used to identify predictors of a mid/high SYNTAX score (SYNTAX score >22). The predictive value of RC combined with CRP was estimated by the ROC curve, continuous net reclassification improvement (NRI) and integrated discrimination improvement (IDI)., Results: The multivariable-adjusted odds ratios (95% CIs) for the highest versus lowest quartile of RC were 2.143 (1.450-3.166) for a mid/high SYNTAX score (SYNTAX score >22). The association of RC with severity of coronary artery lesions was maintained significant in the subsample of patients, regardless of traditional cardiovascular risk factors like LDL-C levels and glycemic metabolism status. Moreover, the addition of CRP and RC to the baseline risk model had an incremental effect on the predictive value for a mid/high SYNTAX score (increase in C‑statistic value from 0.650 to 0.698; IDI 0.03; NRI 0.306; all P < 0.01)., Conclusion: Elevated RC levels were significantly associated with the severity of coronary artery lesions even in patients with optimal low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels. Adjustment of the RC by CRP further improved the predictive ability for the severity of coronary artery lesions. Plastic pollution in aquatic environments poses significant ecological risks, particularly through released leachates. While traditional or non-biodegradable plastics (non-BPs) are well-studied, biodegradable plastics (BPs) have emerged as alternatives that are designed to degrade more rapidly within the environment. However, research on the ecological risks of the leachates from aged BPs in aquatic environments is scarce. This controlled laboratory study investigated the leachate release processes and associated toxicity of traditional non-BPs, i.e., polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polypropylene (PP) and BPs, i.e., polylactic acid (PLA) combined with polybutylene adipate terephthalate (PBAT) and starch-based plastic (SBP) under different aging time and suspended sand concentrations (0, 50, 100, 250, and 500 mg/L). The results indicated that BPs release significantly higher levels of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) than those of non-BPs, particularly at elevated suspended sand concentrations. The DOC concentrations in PLA+PBAT leachate reached 2.69 mg/L, surpassing those of PET and PP. Additionally, BPs released organic matter of larger molecular weight and protein-like substances. Toxicity tests showed that leachates from BPs inhibited the activity of Daphnia magna more than those from non-BPs. At a suspended sand concentration of 500 mg/L, PLA+PBAT leachate caused a 30 % inhibitory rate of Daphnia magna. Despite enhanced degradability, leachates from BPs may pose increased environmental risks in ecosystems with high suspended sand concentrations. Atropisomers with multiple stereogenic axes have attracted much attention due to their increasing significance in the fields of natural products, chiral materials, and drug discoveries. However, the catalytic stereoselective construction of axially chiral ring scaffolds with more than two axes on a single benzene ring remains a challenging task. Herein, we present an efficient method for synthesizing triaxially chiral polysubstituted naphthalene scaffolds via sequential Ni(II)-catalyzed Diels-Alder reaction of isobenzofurans and TfOH-promoted dehydrative aromatization reaction. Using 1,3-biarylisobenzofurans and β-aryl-substituted α,β-unsaturated N-acyl pyrazoles as modular reaction partners, a series of naphthalenes with 1,3,4-triaxes were synthesized with excellent enantioselectivities and diastereoselectivities. Furthermore, by attaching two pyrene chromophores to this novel triaxially chiral ring scaffold, a circularly polarized luminescence (CPL)-active dye exhibiting a remarkable luminescence dissymmetry factor (g lum =-0.019) and high fluorescence quantum efficiency (Ø FL =0.29) was obtained, highlighting the potential applications of atropisomers with multiple stereogenic axes in the design of chiroptical organic materials., (© 2024 Wiley-VCH GmbH.)

We explored the coadsorption and cotransport (single, binary, and ternary systems) of varying sized (50, 200, and 500 nm) Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) nanoplastics (NPs) with different concentration ratios in freshwater-saturated and seawater-saturated porous media. It was found that ripening effect occurred selectively, with ripening more likely to occur in seawater relative to freshwater, resulting in significantly different cotransport and coadsorption of varying sized NPs in freshwater-saturated and seawater-saturated porous media. In freshwater, there was no obvious ripening effect happening. In both binary and ternary systems, as the concentration of coexisting PMMA NPs increased, the adsorption and retention of coexisting other sized PMMA NPs were inhibited due to competition for adsorption sites. In seawater, coexisting varying sized NPs promoted adsorption and retention of each other in saturated porous media due to increased roughness and ripening effect. The NP aggregate size and the increase in surface roughness of media grains brought about by the increase in size variety of NPs dominated the cotransport of varying sized NPs in seawater-saturated porous media. Microplastics (MPs) and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) coexist widely in lakes and affect ecological security. The coexistence characteristics and adsorption-desorption mechanisms between MPs and typical PFASs were explored in a typical eutrophic shallow lake (Taihu Lake). Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and polyethylene (PE) are the primary types of MPs in Taihu Lake, with average abundances in water and sediment of 18630 n/m 3 and 584 n/kg, respectively. The average concentrations of PFASs in water and sediment are 288.93 ng/L and 4.33 ng/g, with short-chain PFASs (C4-C7) being the main pollutants. Perfluorobutanoic acid (PFBA) in both water and sediment contributed 38.48 % and 44.53 %, respectively, followed by hexafluoropropylene oxide dimer acid (HFPO-DA). The morphological characteristics of MPs influence the distribution of long-chain PFAS in lake water, while the presence of HFPO-DA and perfluorohexanoic acid (PFHxA) in sediment is directly linked to the concentration and size of MPs. A combination of field investigations and indoor experiments revealed that the irreversible adsorption characteristics between MPs and HFPO-DA may promote the high cumulative flux of HFPO-DA in sediment, and the biofilm on the surface of MPs significantly accelerates this accumulation process. The impact of elevated CO 2 levels on microorganisms is a focal point in studying the environmental effects of global climate change. A growing number of studies have demonstrated the importance of the direct effects of elevated CO 2 on microorganisms, which are confounded by indirect effects that are not easily identified. Riparian zones have become key factor in identifying the environmental effects of global climate change because of their special location. However, the direct effects of elevated CO 2 levels on microbial activity and function in riparian zone sediments remain unclear. In this study, three riparian sediments with different pollution risk levels of heavy metals and nutrients were selected to explore the direct response of microbial communities and functions to elevated CO 2 excluding plants. The results showed that the short-term effects of elevated CO 2 did not change the diversity of the bacterial and fungal communities, but altered the composition of their communities. Additionally, differences were observed in the responses of microbial functions to elevated CO 2 levels among the three regions. Elevated CO 2 promoted the activities of nitrification and denitrification enzymes and led to significant increases in N 2 O release in the three sediments, with the greatest increase of 76.09 % observed in the Yuyangshan Bay (YYS). Microbial carbon metabolism was promoted by elevated CO 2 in YYS but was significantly inhibited by elevated CO 2 in Gonghu Bay and Meiliang Bay. Moreover, TOC, TN, and Pb contents were identified as key factors contributing to the different microbial responses to elevated CO 2 in sediments with different heavy metal and nutrient pollution. Image-to-image translation is a vital component in medical imaging processing, with many uses in a wide range of imaging modalities and clinical scenarios. Previous methods include Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) and Diffusion Models (DMs), which offer realism but suffer from instability and lack uncertainty estimation. Even though both GAN and DM methods have individually exhibited their capability in medical image translation tasks, the potential of combining a GAN and DM to further improve translation performance and to enable uncertainty estimation remains largely unexplored. In this work, we address these challenges by proposing a Cascade Multi-path Shortcut Diffusion Model (CMDM) for high-quality medical image translation and uncertainty estimation. To reduce the required number of iterations and ensure robust performance, our method first obtains a conditional GAN-generated prior image that will be used for the efficient reverse translation with a DM in the subsequent step. Additionally, a multi-path shortcut diffusion strategy is employed to refine translation results and estimate uncertainty. A cascaded pipeline further enhances translation quality, incorporating residual averaging between cascades. We collected three different medical image datasets with two sub-tasks for each dataset to test the generalizability of our approach. Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the organ-protective efficacy of postoperative glucocorticoid in patients with type A aortic dissection., Methods: Postoperative type A aortic dissection patients were randomly allocated to receive either postoperative glucocorticoid or standard-of-care treatment. Intravenous methylprednisolone was administered for 3 days. The primary outcome was the reduction of Sequential Organ Failure Assessment score on postoperative day 4 compared to baseline (on postoperative day 1 before methylprednisolone administration)., Results: Two hundred twelve patients were included in the intention-to-treat analysis. The primary outcome was significantly different between groups: 3.16 ± 2.52 in the control group versus 4.36 ± 2.82 in the glucocorticoid group (absolute difference 1.20 [95% CI 0.52-1.93], P = 0.001). The glucocorticoid group showed markedly lower median high-sensitivity C-reactive protein levels compared to the control group (91.0 mg/l vs 182.0 mg/l; absolute difference: -91 (95% CI -122 to -57), P = 0.009) on postoperative day 4. Fewer patients in the glucocorticoid group required continuous renal replacement therapy (8.5% vs 19.8% in the control group; absolute difference: -10.4 [95% CI -19.1 to -1.3], P = 0.03)., Conclusions: This trial demonstrates that postoperative glucocorticoid in patients with type A aortic dissection significantly reduces postoperative inflammation and improves recovery of early organ dysfunction. While research on the aging behavior of plastics in aquatic systems is extensive, studies focusing on high-altitude ecosystems, characterized by higher solar radiation and lower temperatures, remain limited. This study investigated the long-term aging behavior of non-biodegradable plastics (non-BPs), namely polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polypropylene (PP) and biodegradable plastics (BPs), specifically polylactic acid plus polybutylene adipate-co-terephthalate (PLA + PBAT) and starch-based plastic (SBP), in a tributary of the Yarlung Zangbo River on the high-altitude Tibetan Plateau. Over 84 days of field aging, all four types of plastics exhibited initial rapid aging followed by deceleration. This aging process can be divided into two phases: rapid surface oxidation aging and an aging plateau phase. Notably, PP aged at a rate comparable to BPs, contrary to expectations of faster aging for BPs. Compared to low-altitude aquatic ecosystems, plastics in this study showed a faster aging rate. This was primarily due to intense ultraviolet radiation causing severe photoaging. Furthermore, the lower temperatures contributed to the formation of thinner biofilms. These thinner biofilms exhibited a reduced capacity to block light, further exacerbating the photoaging process of plastics. Statistical analysis results indicated that temperature, total nitrogen TN, and total phosphorus TP were likely the main water quality parameters influencing plastic aging. The varying effects of water properties and nutrients underscore the complex interaction of water quality parameters in high-altitude environments. The potential molecular mechanisms of short-term adaptation and long-term structural deteriorations in the cardiac structure in response to high altitude remain not fully understood. This study aims to investigate changes in the crotonylproteome in the hearts of mice exposed to high altitude at different time points. The hearts were obtained from mice living at the lowland and 3, 10, and 30 days after arriving at a plateau. Crotonyllysolylated proteins were subsequently comprehensively evaluated. Among the identified 13,731 crotonyllysine sites, 11,140 were quantified. Furthermore, 1247 differentially expressed crotonyllysine sites on 764 proteins in 46 pathways were analyzed, and the results showed that the abundance of crotonylation increased with the increase of exposure time to altitude. Functional enrichment analysis showed that most of these significantly altered crotonylated proteins were enriched in the regulation of metabolism and myocardial function, indicating that these enriched biological processes may be involved in the acute adaptation and chronic remodeling of cardiac function and structural changes at a high altitude. The study aimed to compare the effectiveness between Hiporfin-photodynamic therapy (PDT) and loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) in treating cervical high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL). We conducted a retrospective analysis of 104 women diagnosed with cervical HSIL at our hospital from April 2019 to July 2023. With 1:1 matched case-control, 52 cases received Hiporfin-PDT and 52 cases underwent LEEP. All PDT-treated cases received Hiporfin (2 mg/kg) I.V. and a diode laser at a wavelength of 630-nm. T-test, Chi-square test, Fisher's exact test, and Yates's correction for continuity were conducted for statistical. A P value < 0.05 was considered significant. The complete response (CR) post-PDT at 3rd-6th months,10th-12th months and 24th months was in 98.1% (51/52),100.0% (45/45) and 100.0% (22/22) patients respectively, compared to 98.1% (51/52), 100.0% (46/46) and 100.0% (24/24) patients respectively after LEEP. HPV clearance rates after PDT at 3rd-6th months,10th-12th months and 24th months was 76.9% (40/52), 88.9% (40/45) and 95.5% (21/22) respectively, compared to 69.2% (36/52), 93.5% (43/46) and 95.8% (23/24) respectively after LEEP, with no significant difference between the two groups (P = 0.508, P = 0.687 and P = 1.000, respectively). Postoperative complications in the PDT group were tolerable. The cure rates and HPV eradication of Hiporfin-PDT were comparable with that of LEEP in the management of cervical HSIL. Radionuclide-contaminated wounds face clinical dilemmas such as repeated erosion and ulceration and are difficult to heal. In this work, we aimed to develop a biodegradable hydrogel with a beneficial effect on radionuclide-contaminated wounds and initially investigated the mechanism of action of the hydrogel. The hydrogel was produced through the ring-opening polymerization of polycaprolactone (PCL) triggered by polyethylene glycol (PEG), and its physicochemical properties were characterized by gel permeation chromatography, nuclear magnetic resonance, rheological properties testing, and other techniques. The low critical solution temperatures were 30 °C and 46 °C, which are suitable for the human body to realize the degradable properties of the hydrogel. A radionuclide-contaminated wound model was established, which proved that the biodegradable hydrogel had good healing properties and did not form secondary lesions. The effect was better than clinically used EGF or VB12. Pathological results showed that mature granulation tissue formed on the 7th day after the injury, and by the 10th day after the injury, the scab had completely fallen off, the epithelial coverage had reached over 70% and the wound was essentially completely healed. Additionally, the hydrogel affects immune metabolism, regulates immune cell function, promotes the formation of new blood vessels and granular tissue, and effectively accelerates the healing process of radionuclide-contaminated wounds.

Tire wear particles (TWP) represent a distinctive form of microplastics (MPs) that are widely distributed in aquatic ecosystems. However, the toxicity of various types of TWP on phytoplankton remain to be further explored. Thus, three different TWPs originating from replaced bicycle, car, and electro-mobile tire (marked as BTWP, CTWP, and ETWP) were selected and their long-term biological influences on Chlorella vulgaris were investigated. Results demonstrated TWPs showed a concentration-dependent growth promotion of Chlorella vulgaris, with a maximum promotion rate reached to 40.51 % (10 mg/L, 10 d), 23.5 % (80 mg/L, 12 d), and 28.7 % (20 mg/L, 12 d) in the presence of BTWP, CTWP and ETWP, respectively. Meanwhile, TWPs could stimulate the secretion of EPS and induce oxidative stress. EPS analysis revealed the increase of polysaccharides could protect the cell from the direct contact with TWP particles. Moreover, the increased concentration of EPS also helps to induce the settlement of TWP and reduce the leachate release. The release of TWP into the environment could act as an accelerator for the growth of Chlorella vulgaris, which might further change the normal physicochemical behaviors of algae colony in aquatic system. The conventional oil-absorbing materials utilized for addressing oil and organic solvent pollution are plagued by the issue of secondary pollution. In this study, biodegradable porous polylactic acid (PLA) fiber materials were prepared using centrifugal spinning technology, with PLA and polyvinyl butyral (PVB) as raw materials. PVB was utilized as a pore-forming agent to fabricate multi-layered porous PLA fiber materials. When the content of PVB in the spinning solution was 14 %, the porous PLA fibers exhibited the maximum specific surface area of 60.7 m 2 /g and a porosity of up to 85.4 %, interior of the fiber contained numerous mesopores. Additionally, the porous PLA fibers demonstrated excellent superhydrophobic oil absorption properties, with a water static contact angle of 137.8° and oil or organic solvent absorption capacities ranging from 10 to 17.7 g/g. Furthermore, porous PLA fiber materials exhibited outstanding biodegradability, with a degradation mass loss rate of 42.3-45.1 %. Although "lying flat" has become a new youth subculture phenomenon, it is unclear whether "lying flat" is an antidote or a poison for the youth's mental health. Here, we explored the effect of "lying flat" tendency on mental health using the cross-sectional (Study 1a) and longitudinal designs (Study 1b) as well as the intervention design (Study 2). In Study 1a, we found that the youth's "lying flat" tendency was negatively correlated with their mental health. Importantly, cross-lagged analyses (Study 1b) found that "lying flat" tendency negatively predicted mental health 1 month later, suggesting the temporal directionality between "lying flat" tendency and mental health. In Study 2, we sought to examine whether a longitudinal video intervention could promote the youth's mental health by reducing "lying flat" tendency. The results showed that the eight-day inspirational video intervention significantly reduced the youth's "lying flat" tendency and promoted their mental health. Importantly, "lying flat" tendency mediated the relationship between the inspirational video intervention and mental health. Background: The Academic Research Consortium for High Bleeding Risk (ARC-HBR) criteria were proposed for predicting bleeding risk in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). However, there is a lack of research evaluating the risk of in-hospital bleeding following PCI for acute coronary syndrome (ACS) utilizing the ARC-HBR criteria., Methods and Results: This study involved 1013 ACS patients who underwent PCI and dual antiplatelet therapy. There were 63 cases of in-hospital bleeding events (6.22 %). According to the ARC-HBR criteria, patients classified as HBR had a significantly greater bleeding rate than non-HBR patients (15.81 % vs. 1.99 %, p < 0.001). As the CRUSADE score category increased, the risk of bleeding also increased. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) of the ARC-HBR criteria was significantly greater than that of the CRUSADE score for bleeding (0.751 vs. 0.696, p < 0.0001). Subgroup analysis revealed that the ARC-HBR criteria exhibited better predictive ability for ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI, AUC 0.767 vs. 0.694, p = 0.020) but comparable predictive ability in patients with unstable angina (AUC 0.756 vs. 0.644, p = 0.213), non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (AUC 0.713 vs. 0.683, p = 0.644), and non-ST-segment elevation ACS (AUC 0.739 vs. 0.687, p = 0.330)., Conclusion: Compared with the CRUSADE score, the ARC-HBR criteria demonstrate superior predictive ability for in-hospital bleeding events during PCI in ACS patients. Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a prevalent global malignancy with substantial morbidity and mortality. Accurate prognostic evaluation is essential in CRC patient management. This study investigates the prognostic significance of red blood cell count (RBC) and Onodera's prognostic nutritional index (OPNI) in resectable CRC patients., Methods: A retrospective analysis of 210 CRC patients undergoing radical resection (January 2015-January 2017) assessed clinical and hematological factors, including RBC, albumin, hemoglobin, and OPNI. A novel comprehensive biomarker, R-OPNI, combining preoperative RBC with OPNI, was introduced. Correlations with patient survival were analyzed, and R-OPNI's independent prognostic value was assessed through univariate and multivariate Cox models. Predictive ability was compared to other factors using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) method., Results: Higher RBC levels (≥ 3.9 × 10 12 /L) and elevated OPNI were associated with significantly improved overall survival. Lower R-OPNI scores (0 or 1) indicated notably poorer survival. Multivariate analysis confirmed R-OPNI's independent prognostic significance (HR: 0.273, 95% CI: 0.098-0.763, p  = 0.013). R-OPNI (AUC = 0.732) demonstrated superior predictive value compared to individual prognostic factors., Conclusion: R-OPNI emerges as a robust, independent prognostic predictor for resectable CRC patients, emphasizing the importance of assessing preoperative nutritional status.

The Ruddlesden-Popper (R-P) bilayer nickelate, La 3 Ni 2 O 7 , was recently found to show signatures of high-temperature superconductivity (HTSC) at pressures above 14 GPa (ref.  1 ). Subsequent investigations achieved zero resistance in single-crystalline and polycrystalline samples under hydrostatic pressure conditions 2-4 . Yet, obvious diamagnetic signals, the other hallmark of superconductors, are still lacking owing to the filamentary nature with low superconducting volume fraction 2,4,5 . The presence of a new 1313 polymorph and competing R-P phases obscured proper identification of the phase for HTSC 6-9 . Thus, achieving bulk HTSC and identifying the phase at play are the most prominent tasks. Here we address these issues in the praseodymium (Pr)-doped La 2 PrNi 2 O 7 polycrystalline samples. We find that substitutions of Pr for La effectively inhibit the intergrowth of different R-P phases, resulting in a nearly pure bilayer structure. For La 2 PrNi 2 O 7 , pressure-induced orthorhombic to tetragonal structural transition takes place at P c  ≈ 11 GPa, above which HTSC emerges gradually on further compression. The superconducting transition temperatures at 18-20 GPa reach T c onset = 82.5 K and T c zero = 60 K , which are the highest values, to our knowledge, among known nickelate superconductors. Importantly, bulk HTSC was testified by detecting clear diamagnetic signals below about 75 K with appreciable superconducting shielding volume fractions at a pressure of above 15 GPa. NH 2 -MIL-125(Ti) materials had great potential for photocatalytic applications but had low activity due to exciton effect and narrow absorption range of visible light. The surface oxygen-containing negative functional groups of boron nitride quantum dots (BNQDs) could overcome these defects, but due to the low load capacity, a higher specific surface area of the substrate was usually required. In this paper, a hollow Ti-MOF material was developed by etching technology. The hollow structure formed by tannic acid etching broadened the absorption range of visable light and provided more alternative surfaces for loading BNQDs. The 85.2% of high tetracycline (TC) removal efficiency for the best sample (BNQDs-5@20-Ti-MOF + PMS) was obtained, which was about 56.8 and 1.9 times of the 20-Ti-MOF and BNQDs-5@20-Ti-MOF, respectively. BNQDs-5@20-Ti-MOF + PMS system showed a great TC degradation efficiency in a wide pH range (pH = 5-9). In addition, reaction temperature and the inorganic ions did not show significant inhibition effect for TC removal. Both free radical and non-free radical pathways were involved in the TC degration by BNQDs-5@20-Ti-MOF + PMS system, among which O 2 •- and 1 O 2 played the key roles. Interestingly, multiple 1 O 2 production paths contributed to the high efficiency and stability of BNQDs-5@20-Ti-MOF + PMS system. Background: Third molar (M3) extraction is a common surgery in oral and maxillofacial surgery, and composite wound dressings such as hydroxybutyl chitosan (HBC) may improve postoperative sequala following M3 removal., Purpose: The study purpose was to measure and compare differences in pain, swelling, trismus, wound healing, and quality of life (QOL) between the HBC and the control sides in patients undergoing M3 removal., Study Design, Setting, Sample: This study is a double-blind, split-mouth, randomized clinical trial. Patients who required M3 removal between June 2022 and May 2023 were included. Exclusion criteria included seafood allergies, smoking, poor oral hygiene, and systemic diseases., Predictor Variable: The predictor variable was the socket treatment technique. Subjects were randomly assigned to the HBC or control (physiological saline) side., Main Outcome Variable: The primary outcome variables, including pain assessed by visual analog scale, swelling, and maximal incisional opening, were measured on the first, third, and seventh postoperative days. The secondary outcome variables included QOL and wound healing score measured on the third and seventh days after surgery., Covariates: The covariates included age, sex, and operation time., Analyses: The Shapiro‒Wilk test was used to evaluate the normality of the data distribution. The paired t test or Wilcoxon signed-rank test was adopted. Statistical significance was set at P < .05., Results: The study included 60 patients (mean age: 25.81 ± 4.91; 23 (38%) males, 37 (62%) females). A statistically significant difference in the level of pain (HBC: 37.58 ± 4.39 mm, control: 47.00 ± 4.33 mm, day 1, P < .001; 21.88 ± 3.25 mm, 35.95 ± 1.57 mm, day 3, P < .001), maximal incisional opening (23.92 ± 1.38 mm, 18.22 ± 1.82 mm, day 1, P < .001; 30.00 ± 1.61 mm, 23.78 ± 1.70 mm, day 3, P < .001), and swelling (6.86 ± 0.70 mm, 7.15 ± 0.80 mm, day 3, P = .006) was detected after surgery. Identifying priority pollutants in wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) effluents is crucial for optimizing monitoring efforts, improving regulations, and developing targeted mitigation strategies. Despite the presence of numerous trace organic pollutants in WWTP effluents, a comprehensive prioritization scheme is lacking, hindering effective control. This study screened 216 micropollutants, including pharmaceuticals, pesticides, and industrial chemicals, which had been detected in effluents from 46 WWTPs across China. A multi-criteria prioritization method was developed, considering exposure potential based on median concentrations and detection frequencies, as well as hazard potential determined by persistence, bioaccumulation, in vitro toxicity, and in vivo toxicity. Pollutants with low exposure or hazard potential were filtered out, and a priority index was calculated to rank the remaining 59 substances. The top 15 priority pollutants included regulated persistent organic pollutants like perfluorooctanoic acid and their alternatives such as perfluorobutane sulfonate, pesticide transformation products, and emerging contaminants such as bisphenol A, which are not currently regulated in WWTP effluents. The intensification of human activities has led to flow reduction and cut-off in most global rivers, seriously affecting riverine organisms and the biogeochemical processes. As key indicators of river ecosystems' structure and function, benthic biofilms play a critical role in driving primary production and material cycling in rivers. This research aimed to investigate the characteristics of microbial communities' complexity and stability during river flow reduction. Benthic biofilms were grown in artificial channels and subjected to eight gradients of flow reduction (represented by flow velocity from 0.4 to 110 cm/s). Biofilms' biodiversity, ecological networks and community assembly of bacteria, fungi and algae were investigated by high-throughput sequencing. Results showed significant differences in community composition and structure under different flow conditions. The eight flow gradients' microbial communities were divided into three groups: low, medium and high flows. The flow reduction led to significant decreases in bacterial and fungal communities' Chao1 index. Low flow conditions enriched the bacterial phyla Oxyphotobacteria, Alphaproteobacteria and Mollicutes, but significantly decreased the fungal phylum Chytridiomycota. Lowering flow reduced the fungal network's number of nodes and increased the algal network's number of edges. Cross-domain interactions network analysis showed a gradual increase in node and edge numbers with decreasing flow, while decreasing average path length. The neutral model predicted stochastic processes primarily drove biofilm community assembly, and that model's explanations decreased as the flow gradient decreased. The null model analysis revealed diffusion limitation as the most common stochastic ecological process for bacterial and algal communities, with reduced flow reducing heterogeneous selection and increasing diffusion-limited processes. Algae blooms are frequently triggered owing to the improvements in aquatic trophic levels. The aggregated algae from these blooms are eventually dead and accumulate on sediment surfaces, impacting the microenvironment and phosphorus cycling in aquatic systems. However, research on the effects of naturally dead algal deposition on endogenous P release from sediments is lacking. In this study, we investigated the long-term effects of dead algal deposition at varying concentrations on P release from sediments and the underlying mechanisms by assessing microbial metabolism and community structure. The results showed that following the dead algal deposition, the release of P from sediments to the water column peaked on day 40 (0.14±0.017 mg L -1 in Amend12) and the SRP exchange capacity reached maximum (6.09 ± 1.63 mg/(cm 2 ·d) in Amend12) at sediment-water interface in phase1 (0-3 day). This might be primarily attributed to the deposition of dead algae introducing much organic matter (such as organic carbon and organic phosphorus), thus altering the sediment microenvironment, which increased the activity of phosphorus-cycle microorganisms, such as polyphosphate-accumulating organisms, through increasing C source metabolism, reducing intracellular ammonia inhibition, and creating more suitable anaerobic conditions. The biogenetic sulfidation of zero-valent iron (BS-ZVI) by sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) has been demonstrated to enhance the reactivity of ZVI. However, long-term performance of BS-ZVI and related mechanism were still unknown. Therefore, columns containing sponge iron and SRB are built to prepare BS-ZVI in-situ and study its long-term performance. Over 80 % of NO 3 ‾ was reduced to NH 4 + by in-situ BS-ZVI within 140 days, which was higher than the sole ZVI treatment (40 %-60 %). The bonding of ZVI and FeS x was in-situ firstly and finally loaded on ZVI. The reduction of Fe(III) by S(-II) and SRB contributed to the formation of FeS x , which improved the electrons transfer. Moreover, BS-ZVI enhanced the enzymes activity of SRB, thus accelerating the metabolic transformation of lactic acid to acetic acid. The accumulation of acetic acid enhanced the removal efficiency of NO 3 ‾ through the dissolution of passivation layer. The respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) fusion (F) glycoprotein is highly immunogenic in its prefusion (pre-F) conformation. However, the protein is unstable, and its conformation must be stabilized for it to function effectively as an immunogen in vaccines. We present a mutagenesis strategy to arrest the RSV F protein in its pre-F state by blocking localized changes in protein structure that accompany large-scale conformational rearrangements. We generated a series of mutants and screened them in vitro to assess their potential for forming a stable pre-F. In animals, the immunogenicity of a representative mutant F protein, with a conformation confirmed by cryo-electron microscopy, elicited levels of neutralizing antibodies and protection against RSV-induced lung damage that were comparable to those of DS-Cav1, a pre-F used in a licensed vaccine.

Background: The optimal sedative regime for noninvasive ventilation (NIV) intolerance remains uncertain. The present study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of remifentanil (REM) compared to dexmedetomidine (DEX) in cardiac surgery patients with moderate-to-severe intolerance to NIV., Methods: In this multicenter, prospective, single-blind, randomized controlled study, adult cardiac surgery patients with moderate-to-severe intolerance to NIV were enrolled and randomly assigned to be treated with either REM or DEX for sedation. The status of NIV intolerance was evaluated using a four-point NIV intolerance score at different timepoints within a 72-h period. The primary outcome was the mitigation rate of NIV intolerance following sedation., Results: A total of 179 patients were enrolled, with 89 assigned to the REM group and 90 to the DEX group. Baseline characteristics were comparable between the two groups, including NIV intolerance score [3, interquartile range (IQR) 3-3 vs. 3, IQR 3-4, p = 0.180]. The chi-squared test showed that mitigation rate, defined as the proportion of patients who were relieved from their initial intolerance status, was not significant at most timepoints, except for the 15-min timepoint (42% vs. 20%, p = 0.002). However, after considering the time factor, generalized estimating equations showed that the difference was statistically significant, and REM outperformed DEX (odds ratio = 3.31, 95% confidence interval: 1.35-8.12, p = 0.009). Adverse effects, which were not reported in the REM group, were encountered by nine patients in the DEX group, with three instances of bradycardia and six cases of severe hypotension. Secondary outcomes, including NIV failure (5.6% vs. 7.8%, p = 0.564), tracheostomy (1.12% vs. 0%, p = 0.313), ICU LOS (7.7 days, IQR 5.8-12 days vs. 7.0 days, IQR 5-10.6 days, p = 0.219), and in-hospital mortality (1.12% vs. 2.22%, p = 0.567), demonstrated comparability between the two groups., Conclusions: In summary, our study demonstrated no significant difference between REM and DEX in the percentage of patients who achieved mitigation among cardiac surgery patients with moderate-to-severe NIV intolerance. Objective: To evaluate the optimal choice of traditional Chinese exercise (TCE) for improving bone mineral density in postmenopausal women through a network meta-analysis., Methods: The Chinese and English databases were searched, including China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chongqing VIP, PubMed, Web of Science and Cochrane Library. The outcomes included BMD of lumbar L2-L4, femoral neck, ward triangle, and greater trochanter. Standardized mean differences (SMD) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were used to assess the correlation between each group of interventions, and surface under the cumulative ranking (SUCRA) was used to rank the best interventions., Results: A total of 20 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) including 1933 subjects and six interventions: [Tai Chi (TC), Baduanjin (BDJ), Wuqinxi (WQX), Yijinjing (YJJ), TA (Tai chi plus calcium supplementation), BA (Baduanjin plus calcium supplementation)] and three control measures: [Calcium supplementation (CA), Aerobic exercise (AE), Not exercise intervention (NEI)] were analyzed. Regarding BMD of lumbar L2-L4: TC [SMD = 0.99 (0.62, 1.37)], BDJ [SMD = 2.12 (1.39, 2.85)], TA [SMD = 1.12(0.17, 2.07)], BA [SMD = 2.24 (1.16, 3.31)] were superior in increasing BMD of lumbar L2-L4 relative to NEI. Regarding BMD of femoral neck: TC [SMD = 1.24 (0.70, 1.78)], BA [SMD = 3.77 (1.98, 5.56)] were superior in increasing BMD of femoral neck relative to NEI. Regarding BMD of ward's triangle: TC [SMD = 1.63 (1.09, 2.17)] was superior in increasing BMD of ward's triangle relative to NEI. Regarding BMD of greater trochanter: TC [SMD = 0.98 (0.28, 1.68)] were superior in increasing BMD of greater trochanter relative to NEI. TC topped the SUCRA with BMD of lumbar L2-L4: 53.8, femoral neck: 74.9, ward's triangle: 86.9 and greater trochanter: 77.7., Conclusion: Four TCE (TC, BDJ, TA and BA) are all effective in partially improving BMD indicators in postmenopausal women, while TC was effective on all four BMD indicators, which seems to be recommended as the most suitable exercise modality for postmenopausal women., Systematic Review Registration: This research follows the PRISMA Network statement. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have demonstrated significant therapeutic potential in heart failure (HF) treatment. However, their clinical application is impeded by low retention rate and low cellular activity of MSCs caused by high inflammatory and reactive oxygen species (ROS) microenvironment. In this study, monascus pigment (MP) nanoparticle (PPM) was proposed for improving adverse microenvironment and assisting in transplantation of bone marrow-derived MSCs (BMSCs). Meanwhile, in order to load PPM and reduce the mechanical damage of BMSCs, injectable hydrogels based on Schiff base cross-linking were prepared. The PPM displays ROS-scavenging and macrophage phenotype-regulating capabilities, significantly enhancing BMSCs survival and activity in HF microenvironment. This hydrogel demonstrates superior biocompatibility, injectability, and tissue adhesion. With the synergistic effects of injectable, adhesive hydrogel and the microenvironment-modulating properties of MP, cardiac function was effectively improved in the pericardial sac of rats. Natural gap junctions are a type of channel protein responsible for intercellular signalling and mass communication. However, the scope of applications for these proteins is limited as they cannot be prepared at a large scale and are unable to spontaneously insert into cell membranes in vitro. The construction of artificial gap junctions may provide an alternative strategy for preparing analogues of the natural proteins and bottom-up building blocks necessary for the synthesis of artificial cells. Here we show the construction of artificial gap junction channels from unimolecular tubular molecules consisting of alternately arranged positively and negatively charged pillar[5]arene motifs. These molecules feature a hydrophobic-hydrophilic-hydrophobic triblock structure that allows them to efficiently insert into two adjacent plasma membranes and stretch across the gap between the two membranes to form gap junctions. Similar to natural gap junction channels, the synthetic channels could mediate intercellular signal coupling and reactive oxygen species transmission, leading to cellular activity., (© 2024. The results showed that patients with PE at very HA had a higher risk of lower extremity DVT (OR 16.3 [95% CI 1.2-223.2], p = 0.036), than those at HA, especially in the early stages of very HA entry, and the harsh environment of very HA further exacerbated the risk of VTE. These findings emphasize the higher risk of PE development in very HA and the need for enhanced prevention and treatment in this area.

Background: Thermostability is a fundamental property of proteins to maintain their biological functions. Predicting protein stability changes upon mutation is important for our understanding protein structure-function relationship, and is also of great interest in protein engineering and pharmaceutical design., Results: Here we present mutDDG-SSM, a deep learning-based framework that uses the geometric representations encoded in protein structure to predict the mutation-induced protein stability changes. mutDDG-SSM consists of two parts: a graph attention network-based protein structural feature extractor that is trained with a self-supervised learning scheme using large-scale high-resolution protein structures, and an eXtreme Gradient Boosting model-based stability change predictor with an advantage of alleviating overfitting problem. The performance of mutDDG-SSM was tested on several widely-used independent datasets. Then, myoglobin and p53 were used as case studies to illustrate the effectiveness of the model in predicting protein stability changes upon mutations. Our results show that mutDDG-SSM achieved high performance in estimating the effects of mutations on protein stability. In addition, mutDDG-SSM exhibited good unbiasedness, where the prediction accuracy on the inverse mutations is as well as that on the direct mutations., Conclusion: Meaningful features can be extracted from our pre-trained model to build downstream tasks and our model may serve as a valuable tool for protein engineering and drug design., (© 2024. Tubular structures exist broadly in biological systems and exhibit important functions including mediating cellular communications. The construction of artificial analogues in living cells would provide a new strategy for chemotherapy. In this report, a kind of supramolecular channel has been constructed within intercellular gaps by mimicking the assembly process and structure of natural gap junctional channels, which consist of hydrophobic tubular modules located in the adjacent cell membranes and hydrophilic modules within the extracellular space. The assembly of the channels was driven by electrostatic interactions. The channels could inhibit tumor cell invasion by preventing cell migration.

Background: Radiology-based prognostic biomarkers play a crucial role in patient counseling, enhancing surveillance, and designing clinical trials effectively. This study aims to assess the predictive significance of preoperative CT-based tumor contour irregularity in determining clinical outcomes among patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC)., Methods: We conducted a retrospective multi-institutional review involving 2218 patients pathologically diagnosed with RCC. The training and internal validation sets included patients at Zhongshan Hospital between January 2009 and August 2019. The external test set comprised patients from the First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine (January 2016 to January 2018), the Xiamen Branch of Zhongshan Hospital (November 2017 to June 2023), and the Cancer Imaging Archive. The contour irregularity degree (CID), quantified as the ratio of irregular cross-sections to the total tumor cross-sections, was analyzed for its prognostic relevance across different subgroups of RCC patients. A novel CID-based scoring system was developed, and its predictive efficacy was evaluated and compared with existing prognostic models., Findings: The CID exhibited significant discriminatory power in predicting overall survival (OS), recurrence-free survival (RFS), and disease-specific survival (DSS) among patients with RCC tumors measuring 3 cm or larger (all p < 0.001). Multivariate analyses confirmed the CID as an independent prognostic indicator. Notably, the CID augmented prognostic stratification among RCC patients within distinct risk subgroups delineated by SSIGN models and ISUP grades. The CID-based nomogram (C-Model) demonstrated robust predictive performance, with C-index values of 0.88 (95%CI: 0.84-0.92) in the training set, 0.92 (95%CI: 0.88-0.98) in the internal validation set, and 0.86 (95%CI: 0.81-0.90) in the external test set, surpassing existing prognostic models., Interpretation: Routine imaging-based assessment of the CID serves as an independent prognostic factor, offering incremental prognostic value to existing models in RCC patients with tumors measuring 3 cm or larger., Funding: This study was funded by grants from National Natural Science Foundation of China; Shanghai Municipal Health Commission; China National Key R&D Program and Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality., Competing Interests: There are no conflicts of interest., (© 2024 The Authors.)

Saliency maps have proven to be a highly efficacious approach for explicating the decisions of convolutional neural networks (CNNs). However, extant methodologies predominantly rely on gradients, which constrain their ability to explicate complex models. Furthermore, such approaches are not fully adept at leveraging negative gradient information to improve interpretive veracity. In this study, we present a novel concept, termed positive and negative excitation (PANE), which enables the direct extraction of PANE for each layer, thus enabling complete layer-by-layer information utilization sans gradients. To organize these excitations into final saliency maps, we introduce a double-chain backpropagation procedure. A comprehensive experimental evaluation, encompassing both binary classification and multiclassification tasks, was conducted to gauge the effectiveness of our proposed method. Encouragingly, the results evince that our approach offers a significant improvement over the state-of-the-art methods in terms of salient pixel removal, minor pixel removal, and inconspicuous adversarial perturbation generation guidance. In addition, we verify the correlation between PANEs.

RNA-binding proteins can regulate nucleotide metabolism and gene expression. UPF3B regulator of nonsense mediated mRNA decay (UPF3B) exhibits dysfunction in cancers. However, its role in the progression of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is still insufficiently understood. Here, we found that UPF3B was markedly upregulated in HCC samples and associated with adverse prognosis in patients. UPF3B dramatically promoted HCC growth both in vivo and in vitro. Mechanistically, UPF3B was found to bind to PPP2R2C, a regulatory subunit of PP2A, boosting its mRNA degradation and activating the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway. E2F transcription factor 6 (E2F6) directly binds to the UPF3B promoter to facilitate its transcription. Together, the E2F6/UPF3B/PPP2R2C axis promotes HCC growth through the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway. Background: The expression patterns and prognostic value of Procollagen-lysine, 2-oxoglutarate 5-dioxygenase (PLOD) family genes in breast cancer remain to be elucidated., Methods: The expression levels, prognostic value, and biological function of PLODs were determined using Oncomine, cBioPortal, GEPIA, Timer, UALCAN, PrognoScan, GeneMANIA, Metascape, and breast cancer tissue microarrays., Results: The expressions of PLOD1 and PLOD3 were upregulated in breast cancer tissues, indicating worse clinical stages. High expression levels of PLOD family genes were associated with worse disease-free survival and distant metastasis-free survival, while high expression levels of PLOD1 and PLOD3 were related to worse overall survival in all breast cancer patients. The levels of PLOD family genes were all significantly higher in the age ≤51 y group, HR-negative patients, and triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) patients. They are associated with tumor-infiltrating immune cells (TIICs), including CD4+ T cells, CD8+ T cells, B cells, macrophages, neutrophils, and dendritic cells. According to co-expression gene analysis and functional enrichment, they are associated with protein hydroxylation, collagen biosynthesis and modifying enzymes, collagen metabolism, RNA splicing, extracellular matrix organization, VEGFA-VEGFR2 signaling pathway, and skeletal system development. Immunohistochemistry showed that the expressions of all PLOD family genes were significantly elevated in breast cancer tissues. PLOD1 expression was positively correlated with ER, TNBC status, and tumor grade. PLOD2 expression was positively connected with Ki-67 status. PLOD3 expression was positively related with age and tumor grade., Conclusions: PLOD family genes are novel potential prognostic biomarkers for breast cancer, and targeting PLOD inhibitors might be an effective strategy for breast cancer therapy.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a common malignancy with a poor prognosis. It has been proven that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play an essential role in regulating HCC progression. However, the involvement of LINC01094 in regulating epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in HCC remains unclear. LINC01094 expression in HCC patients was retrieved from the Cancer Genome Atlas database. Overexpressing and downregulating LINC01094 were conducted to investigate its biological functions using Hep3B, SNU-387, and HuH-7 cells. Western blotting and morphological observation were performed to study the EMT in HCC cells. Transwell assay was adopted to determine the migration and invasion of HCC cells. The underlying mechanism of competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) was investigated using bioinformatics analysis, quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction, and rescue experiments. Elevated LINC01094 expression was observed in HCC and associated with a poor prognosis. Knockdown of LINC01094 expression in SNU-387 and HuH-7 cells could inhibit migration, invasion, and EMT markers. Overexpression of LINC01094 indicated that LINC01094 promoted EMT via the TGF-β/SMAD signaling pathway. The bioinformatics analysis revealed that miR-122-5p was a target of LINC01094. The miRWalk database analysis showed that TGFBR2, SMAD2, and SMAD3 were downstream targets of miR-122-5p. Mechanically, LINC01094 acted as a ceRNA that facilitated HCC metastasis by sponging miR-122-5p to regulate the expression of TGFBR2, SMAD2, and SMAD3. Further, TGF-β1 could enhance the expression of LINC01094, forming a positive feedback loop. TGF-β1-induced LINC01094 expression promotes HCC cell migration and invasion by targeting the miR-122-5p/TGFBR2-SMAD2-SMAD3 axis. LINC01094 may be a potential prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target for HCC metastasis., (© 2024. RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) are a class of proteins that primarily function by interacting with different types of RNAs and play a critical role in regulating the transcription and translation of cancer-related genes. However, their role in the progression of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains unclear. In this study, we analyzed RNA sequencing data and the corresponding clinical information of patients with HCC to screen for prognostic RBPs. Insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA-binding protein 3 (IGF2BP3) was identified as an independent prognostic factor for liver cancer. It is upregulated in HCC and is associated with a poor prognosis. Elevated IGF2BP3 expression was validated via immunohistochemical analysis using a tissue microarray of patients with HCC. IGF2BP3 knockdown inhibited the proliferation of Hep3B and HepG2 cells, whereas IGF2BP3 overexpression promoted the expansion of HuH-7 and MHCC97H cells. Mechanistically, IGF2BP3 modulates cell proliferation by regulating E2F1 expression. DNA hypomethylation of the IGF2BP3 gene may increase the expression of IGF2BP3, thereby enhancing cell proliferation in HCC. The football team training algorithm (FTTA) is a new metaheuristic algorithm that was proposed in 2024. The FTTA has better performance but faces challenges such as poor convergence accuracy and ease of falling into local optimality due to limitations such as referring too much to the optimal individual for updating and insufficient perturbation of the optimal agent. To address these concerns, this paper presents an improved football team training algorithm called IFTTA. To enhance the exploration ability in the collective training phase, this paper proposes the fitness distance-balanced collective training strategy. This enables the players to train more rationally in the collective training phase and balances the exploration and exploitation capabilities of the algorithm. To further perturb the optimal agent in FTTA, a non-monopoly extra training strategy is designed to enhance the ability to get rid of the local optimum. In addition, a population restart strategy is then designed to boost the convergence accuracy and population diversity of the algorithm. In this paper, we validate the performance of IFTTA and FTTA as well as six comparison algorithms in CEC2017 test suites. The experimental results show that IFTTA has strong optimization performance. Moreover, several engineering-constrained optimization problems confirm the potential of IFTTA to solve real-world optimization problems.

Background: The intrusion of maxillary anterior teeth is often required and there are various intrusion modes with mini-implants in clear aligner treatment. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of maxillary anterior teeth intrusion with different intrusion modes, aiming to provide references for precise and safe intrusion movements in clinical practice., Methods: Cone-beam computed tomography and intraoral optical scanning data of a patient were collected. Finite element models of the maxilla, maxillary dentition, periodontal ligaments (PDLs), clear aligner (CA), attachments, and mini-implants were established. Different intrusion modes of the maxillary anterior teeth were simulated by changing the mini-implant site (between central incisors, between central and lateral incisor, between lateral incisor and canine), loading site (between central incisors, on central incisor, between central and lateral incisor, between lateral incisor and canine), and loading mode (labial loading and labiolingual loading). Ten conditions were generated and intrusive forces of 100 g were applied totally. Then displacement tendency of the maxillary anterior teeth and CA, and stress of the PDLs were analyzed., Results: For the central incisor under condition L14 and for the canine under conditions L11, L13, L23, and L33, the intrusion amount was negative. Under other conditions, the intrusion amount was positive. The labiolingual angulation of maxillary anterior teeth exhibited positive changes under all conditions, with greater changes under linguoincisal loading. The mesiodistal angulation of canine exhibited positive changes under labial loading, while negative changes under linguoincisal loading except for condition L14., Conclusions: The intrusion amount, labiolingual and mesiodistal angulations of the maxillary anterior teeth were affected by the mini-implant site, loading site, and loading mode. Labial and linguoincisal loading may have opposite effects on the intrusion amount of maxillary anterior teeth and the mesiodistal angulation of canine. The labiolingual angulation of the maxillary incisors would increase under all intrusion modes, with greater increases under linguoincisal loading., (© 2024. The Author(s).)
