Background: Serum creatinine and cystatin C levels are influenced by different non-renal factors. The difference between the estimated glomerular filtration rates (eGFRdiff) based on these two markers helps assess cardiovascular risk factors unrelated to kidney function. However, its impact on post-ablation atrial fibrillation (AF) recurrence remains unknown., Methods: From July 2017 to February 2023, we prospectively observed 989 consecutive AF patients who underwent radiofrequency ablation. The association between eGFRdiff and post-ablation AF recurrence was analyzed using Kaplan-Meier methods, adjusted Cox regression analysis, and restricted cubic spline (RCS) analysis., Results: During a median follow-up period of 29 months, 326 cases of AF recurrence were detected. Participants were divided into three groups based on eGFRdiff: high (≥ -9.22), medium (-20.98 to -9.22), and low (≤ -20.98). Multivariable Cox proportional hazards models revealed that, compared to the medium eGFRdiff group, individuals in the low eGFRdiff group (hazard ratio [HR] 1.46, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.08-1.94, p < 0.01) and the high eGFRdiff group (HR 1.69, 95% CI 1.27-2.27, p < 0.01) had a significantly increased risk of AF recurrence. RCS analysis demonstrated a U-shaped association between eGFRdiff and AF recurrence. Stratified analyses confirmed the robustness of the core findings across subgroups, except for females. Notably, the geriatric nutritional risk index and the derived neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio partially mediated the association between eGFRdiff and high AF recurrence by 5.7% and 10.7%, respectively., Conclusion: eGFRdiff is related to individual nutritional and inflammatory statuses and can be used to predict the risk of AF recurrence. Introduction: Socioeconomic determinants are increasingly important factors in the integrated management of atrial fibrillation (AF). The impact of loneliness status on AF recurrence remains unclear., Methods: We conducted a cohort study based on patients with AF undergoing catheter ablation from 2017 to 2022. The Chinese version of the De Jong Gierveld scale (DJGLS) for evaluating loneliness degree was used. Multivariate Cox regression was performed to identify the independent risk factors for recurrent AF. A multivariate model was used to estimate the hazard ratio (HR) with 95% confidence interval (CI) when adjusting the known risk covariates in several kinds of subgroups., Results: Nine hundred fifty-five patients with AF and mean age > 65 years finished long-term follow-up. The AF cluster with severe/extreme loneliness tended to live alone according to DJGLS scores. Multivariate Cox regression showed that loneliness status is an independent risk factor for AF recurrence by using a multivariate model with adjustments of some covariates (moderate loneliness: HR 2.02; 95% CI 1.47-2.77, P < 0.001; severe/extreme loneliness: HR 5.28; 95% CI 3.56-7.84, P < 0.001). Survival analysis demonstrated that patients with AF with a more severe degree of loneliness are more likely to have AF recurrence in the long-term follow-up (log-rank test, P < 0.001). Restricted cubic spline (RCS) showed a mainly non-linear relationship between feeling lonely and AF recurrence (P overall < 0.001, P non-linear = 0.195). Receiver-operator characteristic curve (ROC) and time-dependent ROC curve indicated that the diagnostic value of loneliness status in predicting AF recurrence is stable and acceptable., Conclusion: A more severe degree of loneliness was positively associated with increased risk of AF recurrence. Upscaling the perovskite solar cell (PSC) while avoiding losses in the power conversion efficiency presents a substantial challenge, especially when transitioning from ≤1 cm 2 cells to ≥10 cm 2 modules. In addition to the fabrication of key functional layers, scalable technologies for surface passivation, considered indispensable for achieving high-performance PSCs, are urgently required. However, studies on this topic remain limited. In this study, an industry-ready slot-die coating method for the effective passivation of perovskite films as a practical alternative is developed to the spin-coating procedures commonly used in research. The coating conditions and molecular structure of the passivation agent are systematically optimized to achieve high-quality film morphology and substantially suppress interface recombination. 2-chloro-5-(trifluoromethyl)-phenylammonium bromide exhibited the best results, improving the open-circuit voltage of cells and subcells in a module by 80 ± 4 and 72 ± 10 mV, respectively. Correspondingly, the larger-area (active area: 10 cm 2 ) modules sustained the highest efficiency of 21.9% under simulated 1-sun irradiation. The encapsulated devices retained 94% of their initial performances after 750 h of continuous operation. Key Message: OsCactinpositively regulates drought tolerance in rice. OsCactin is regulated by OsTRAB1 and interacts with OsDi19 proteins to defend against drought stress. Drought stress significantly limits plant growth and production. Cactin, a CactinC&#95;cactus domain-containing protein encoded by a highly conserved single-copy gene prevalent across the eukaryotic kingdom, is known to play diverse roles in fundamental biological processes. However, its function in rice drought tolerance remains poorly understood. In this study, with its overexpression and knockout rice lines in both a pot drought experiment and a PEG drought-simulation test, OsCactin was found to positively regulate rice drought tolerance during the rice seedling stage. The OsCactin-overexpressing lines presented high tolerance to drought stress, whereas the OsCactin-knockout plants were sensitive to drought stress. OsCactin was localized in the nucleus, and was predominantly expressed in the leaves and panicles at the seedling and booting stages, respectively. Furthermore, OsTRAB1, a drought-responsive TF of the bZIP family, binds to the promoter of OsCactin as a drought-responsive regulator. OsDi19 proteins, the Cys2/His2 (C2H2)-type zinc finger TFs from the drought-induced 19 family, interact with OsCactin both in vitro and in vivo. Sol-gel processed zinc oxide (ZnO) is one of the most widely used electron transport layers (ETLs) in inverted organic solar cells (OSCs). The high annealing temperature (≈200 °C) required for sintering to ensure a high electron mobility however results in severe damage to flexible substrates. Thus, flexible organic solar cells based on sol-gel processed ZnO exhibit significantly lower efficiency than rigid devices. In this paper, an indium-doping approach is developed to improve the optoelectronic properties of ZnO layers and reduce the required annealing temperature. Inverted OSCs based on In-doped ZnO (IZO) exhibit a higher efficiency than those based on ZnO for a range of different active layer systems. For the PM6:L8-BO system, the efficiency increases from 17.0% for the pristine ZnO-based device to 17.8% for the IZO-based device. The IZO-based device with an active layer of PM6:L8-BO:BTP-eC9 exhibits an even higher efficiency of up to 18.1%. In addition, a 1.2-micrometer-thick inverted ultrathin flexible organic solar cell is fabricated based on the IZO ETL that achieves an efficiency of 17.0% with a power-per-weight ratio of 40.4 W g -1 , which is one of the highest efficiency for ultrathin (less than 10 micrometers) flexible organic solar cells., (© 2024 The Author(s). Atrial fibrosis plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of atrial fibrillation (AF). Monocyte chemotactic protein-induced protein-1 (MCPIP1), recognized as a functional ribonuclease (RNase), exacerbates cardiac remodeling and contributes to a range of cardiovascular diseases. However, the involvement of MCPIP1 in atrial fibrosis and development of AF, along with its underlying biological mechanisms, remains poorly understood. This study demonstrated that knockdown of MCPIP1 significantly reduced AF inducibility, decreased left atrial diameter, and ameliorated atrial fibrosis, coinciding with reduced FRAT1/2/Wnt/β-catenin signaling. Furthermore, the MCPIP1-D141N mutation attenuated AF vulnerability and atrial remodeling compared to MCPIP1 overexpression in an acetylcholine and calcium chloride (ACh-CaCl 2 )-induced rat model of AF. Conversely, overexpression of FRAT1/2 partially reversed the cardioprotective effects of MCPIP1-D141N mutation. Using H9C2 cell lines, we observed that MCPIP1 may induce a transcriptional effect that downregulates miR-26a-5p expression, and luciferase and RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) assays substantiated the direct interaction between miR-26a-5p and FRAT1/2. Moreover, overexpression of miR-26a-5p countered MCPIP1-induced atrial remodeling and attenuated the progression of AF. All-perovskite tandem solar cells have shown great promise in breaking the Shockley-Queisser limit of single-junction solar cells. However, the efficiency improvement of all-perovskite tandem solar cells is largely hindered by the surface defects induced non-radiative recombination loss in Sn-Pb mixed narrow bandgap perovskite films. Here, we report a surface reconstruction strategy utilizing a surface polishing agent, 1,4-butanediamine, together with a surface passivator, ethylenediammonium diiodide, to eliminate Sn-related defects and passivate organic cation and halide vacancy defects on the surface of Sn-Pb mixed perovskite films. Our strategy not only delivers high-quality Sn-Pb mixed perovskite films with a close-to-ideal stoichiometric ratio surface but also minimizes the non-radiative energy loss at the perovskite/electron transport layer interface. As a result, our Sn-Pb mixed perovskite solar cells with bandgaps of 1.32 and 1.25 eV realize power conversion efficiencies of 22.65% and 23.32%, respectively. Objective: The benefits of rhythm control in early atrial fibrillation (AF) are increasingly recognized. This study aimed to investigate whether early AF ablation contributes to long-term sinus rhythm maintenance and to identify a suitable predictive score., Methods: According to diagnosis-to-ablation time, this study prospectively enrolled 245 patients with very early AF, 262 with early AF, and 588 with late AF for radiofrequency ablation from June 2017 to December 2022. Clinical data, risk scores, and follow-up results were collected and analyzed., Results: Baseline characteristics were similar among the three cohorts. During a median follow-up period of 26 months, AF recurrence was observed in 61 (24.9%), 66 (25.2%), and 216 (36.7%) patients in the very early, early, and late AF cohorts, respectively. In the multivariable-adjusted model, very early and early AF were associated with a reduced risk of AF recurrence, with hazard ratios of 0.72 (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.52-0.99) and 0.57 (95% CI 0.41-0.78), respectively. The APPLE score demonstrated the highest predictive power for very early AF, with an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.74. However, its predictive power decreased with time from diagnosis, showing low predictive power for late AF (AUC = 0.58). In addition, the time-dependent concordance index showed consistent results. For very early AF, the Akaike information criterion and decision curve analysis showed that APPLE had the highest predictive value., Conclusion: Very early AF ablation was associated with a lower recurrence rate, and the APPLE score provided a higher predictive value for these patients. Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is acknowledged as a disease continuum. Despite catheter ablation being recommended as a primary therapy for AF, the high recurrence rates have tempered the initial enthusiasm. Insulin resistance (IR) has been established as an independent predictor for the onset of AF. However, the correlation between non-insulin-based IR indices and late AF recurrence in patients undergoing radiofrequency catheter ablation remains unknown., Methods: A retrospective cohort of 910 AF patients who underwent radiofrequency catheter ablation was included in the analysis. The primary endpoint was late AF recurrence during the follow-up period after a defined blank period. The relationship between non-insulin-based IR indices and the primary endpoint was assessed using multivariate Cox hazards regression models and restricted cubic splines (RCS). Additionally, the net reclassification improvement and integrated discrimination improvement index were calculated to further evaluate the additional predictive value of the four IR indices beyond established risk factors for the primary outcome., Results: During a median follow-up period of 12.00 months, 189 patients (20.77%) experienced late AF recurrence, which was more prevalent among patients with higher levels of IR. The multivariate Cox hazards regression analysis revealed a significant association between these IR indices and late AF recurrence. Among the four indices, METS-IR provided the most significant incremental effect on the basic model for predicting late AF recurrence. Multivariable-adjusted RCS curves illustrated a nonlinear correlation between METS-IR and late AF recurrence. In subgroup analysis, METS-IR exhibited a significant correlation with late AF recurrence in patients with diabetes mellitus (HR: 1.697, 95% CI 1.397 - 2.063, P < 0.001)., Conclusion: All the four non-insulin-based IR indices were significantly associated with late AF recurrence in patients undergoing radiofrequency catheter ablation. Perovskite solar cells with an inverted architecture provide a key pathway for commercializing this emerging photovoltaic technology because of the better power conversion efficiency and operational stability compared with the normal device structure. Specifically, power conversion efficiencies of the inverted perovskite solar cells have exceeded 25% owing to the development of improved self-assembled molecules 1-5 and passivation strategies 6-8 . However, poor wettability and agglomeration of self-assembled molecules 9-12 cause interfacial losses, impeding further improvement in the power conversion efficiency and stability. Here we report a molecular hybrid at the buried interface in inverted perovskite solar cells that co-assembled the popular self-assembled molecule [4-(3,6-dimethyl-9H-carbazol-9-yl)butyl]phosphonic acid (Me-4PACz) with the multiple aromatic carboxylic acid 4,4',4″-nitrilotribenzoic acid (NA) to improve the heterojunction interface. The molecular hybrid of Me-4PACz with NA could substantially improve the interfacial characteristics. The resulting inverted perovskite solar cells demonstrated a record certified steady-state efficiency of 26.54%. Crucially, this strategy aligns seamlessly with large-scale manufacturing, achieving one of the highest certified power conversion efficiencies for inverted mini-modules at 22.74% (aperture area 11.1 cm 2 ). Background: There is sufficient evidence that women with atrial fibrillation (AF) have a greater symptom burden than men with AF and are more likely to experience recurrence after catheter ablation. However, the mechanisms underlying these sex differences are unclear., Methods: We prospectively enrolled 125 consecutive patients, including 40 non-AF patients and 85 AF patients, who underwent high-density voltage mapping during sinus rhythm and AF patients who underwent first ablation., Results: Overall, 37 (44%) female patients with AF and 24 (60%) female non-AF patients with a mean age of 61.7 ± 11.6 years and 53.6 ± 16.7 years, respectively, were enrolled in this study. The results showed that the atrial voltage of female AF patients was significantly lower than that of male AF patients (1.11 ± 0.58 mV vs. 1.53 ± 0.65 mV; P = 0.003), while there were no significant sex differences in non-AF patients (3.02 ± 0.86 mV vs. 3.21 ± 0.84 mV; P = 0.498). Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that female sex (- 0.29, 95% confidence interval [CI] - 0.64 to - 0.13, P = 0.004) and AF type (- 0.32, 95% CI - 0.69 to - 0.13, P = 0.004) were the only factors independently associated with voltage. Compared with men, women in the paroxysmal AF group had a 3.5-fold greater incidence of recurrence (adjusted hazard ratio 4.49; 95% CI 1.101-18.332, P = 0.036). Both globally and regionally, the results showed that sex-related differences in voltage values occurred prominently in paroxysmal AF patients but not in nonparoxysmal AF patients., Conclusion: Sex-related differences in atrial substrates and arrhythmia-free survival were found in paroxysmal AF patients, suggesting the existence of sex-related pathophysiological factors., (© 2024. Zinc-ion batteries are promising candidates for large-scale energy storage. The side reactions of the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and zinc dendrite growth are major challenges for developing high-performance zinc-ion batteries. In this paper, a supramolecular gel electrolyte (BLO-ILZE) was self-assembled in an ionic liquid (EMIMBF 4 ) with zinc tetrafluoroborate (Zn(BF 4 ) 2 ) on the separator in situ to obtain a gel electrolyte used in zinc-ion batteries. BLO-ILZE is demonstrated to significantly enhance conductivity over a broad temperature range between -70 and 100 °C. Interestingly, through testing and fitting, it is found that the supramolecular gel electrolyte satisfies the liquid state law over a wide temperature range, and even achieves high conductivity (2.12 mS cm -1 ) at -40 °C. It is equivalent to the conductivity of aqueous zinc-ion batteries (ZnSO 4 /H 2 O) at -10 °C, which is 2.33 mS cm -1 . Moreover, the supramolecular gel electrolyte can effectively inhibit the HER, thus exhibiting a longer lifetime in Zn/Zn cells for 3470 h at 1 mA cm -2 compared to the aqueous zinc-ion batteries with the Zn(BF 4 ) 2 aqueous electrolyte (400 h at 1 mA cm -2 ). The assembled V 2 O 5 /BLO-ILZE/Zn full cells also showed cycling performance, with 5000 cycles at 0.5 mA g -1 at room temperature, a capacity of 98%, and a coulombic efficiency of about 100%.

Organic solar cells (OSCs) are one of the most promising photovoltaic technologies due to their affordability and adaptability. However, upscaling is a critical issue that hinders the commercialization of OSCs. A significant challenge is the lack of cost-effective and facile techniques to modulate the morphology of the active layers. The slow solvent evaporation leads to an unfavorable phase separation, thus resulting in a low power conversion efficiency (PCE) of organic solar modules. Here, a nitrogen-blowing assisted method is developed to fabricate a large-area organic solar module (active area = 12 cm 2 ) utilizing high-boiling-point solvents, achieving a PCE of 15.6%. The device fabricated with a high-boiling-point solvent produces a more uniform and smoother large-area film, and the assistance of nitrogen-blowing accelerates solvent evaporation, resulting in an optimized morphology with proper phase separation and finer aggregates. Moreover, the device fabricated by the nitrogen-blowing assisted method exhibits improved exciton dissociation, balanced carrier mobility, and reduced charge recombination. This work proposes a universal and cost-effective technique for the fabrication of high-efficiency organic solar modules.

Ion migration is one of the most critical challenges that affects the stability of metal-halide perovskite solar cells (PSCs). However, the current arsenal of available strategies for solving this issue is limited. Here, novel perovskite active layers following the concept of ordered structures with functional units (OSFU) to intrinsically suppress ion migration, in which a three-dimensional (3D) perovskite layer is deposited by vapor deposition for light absorption and a 2D layer is deposited by solution process for ion inhibition, are constructed. As a promising result, the activation energy of ion migration increases from 0.36 eV for the conventional perovskite to 0.54 eV for the OSFU perovskite. These devices exhibit substantially enhanced operational stability in comparison with the conventional ones, retaining >85% of their initial efficiencies after 1200 h under ISOS-L-1. Moreover, the OSFU devices show negligible fatigue behavior with a robust performance under light/dark cycling aging test (ISOS-LC-1 protocol), which demonstrates the promising application of functional motif theory in this field., (© 2024 Wiley‐VCH GmbH.)

Rice is a staple food for more than half of the global population due to its food security and sustainable development. Weeds compete with crops for sunlight and indispensable nutrients, affecting the yield and quality of crops. Breeding herbicide-tolerant rice varieties paired with herbicide application is expected to help with weed control. In this study, 194 Japonica / Geng rice varieties or lines collected from the Huanghuaihai region of China were screened by Kompetitive Allele-Specific PCR (KASP) markers based on four mutation sites within OsALS1 ( LOC&#95;Os02g30630 ), which is the target of imidazolinone (IMI) herbicides. Only the OsALS1 627N haplotype was identified in 18 varieties, including the previously reported Jingeng818 (JG818), and its herbicide resistance was validated by treatment with three IMIs. To investigate the origin of the OsALS1 627N haplotype in the identified varieties, six codominant PCR-based markers tightly linked with OsALS1 were developed. PCR analysis revealed that the other 17 IMI-tolerant varieties were derived from JG818. We randomly selected three IMI-tolerant varieties for comparative whole-genome resequencing with known receptor parent varieties. Sequence alignment revealed that more loci from JG818 have been introduced into IMI-tolerant varieties. However, all three IMI-tolerant varieties carried clustered third type single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) sites from unknown parents, indicating that these varieties were not directly derived from JG818, whereas those from different intermediate improved lines were crossed with JG818. Overall, we found that only OsALS1 627N from JG818 has been broadly introduced into the Huanghuaihai region of China. Additionally, the 17 identified IMI-tolerant varieties provide alternative opportunities for improving such varieties along with other good traits.

Hypoxia is characteristic of the tumor microenvironment, which is correlated with resistance to photodynamic therapy (PDT), radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy. Catalase is potentially useful to catalyze the conversion of endogenous H 2 O 2 to O 2 for hypoxia reversion. However, the efficient delivery of catalase into the hypoxia regions of tumors is a huge challenge. Here, we report the self-assembly of ultra-acid-sensitive polymer conjugates of catalase and albumin into nanomicelles that are responsive to the acidic tumor microenvironment. The immunogenicity of catalase is mitigated by the presence of albumin, which reduces the cross-linking of catalase with B cell receptors, resulting in improved pharmacokinetics. The ultra acid sensitivity of the nanomicelles makes it possible to efficiently escape the lysosomal degradation after endocytosis and permeate into the interior of tumors to reverse hypoxia in vitro and in vivo. In mice bearing triple-negative breast cancer, the nanomicelles loaded with a photosensitizer effectively accumulate and penetrate into the whole tumors to generate a sufficient amount of O 2 to reverse hypoxia, leading to enhanced efficacy of PDT without detectable side effects. These findings provide a general strategy of self-assembly to design low-immunogenic ultra-acid-sensitive comicelles of protein-polymer conjugates to reverse tumor hypoxia, which sensitizes tumors to PDT.

The clinical risk factors associated with late recurrence in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (AF) (NVAF) undergoing radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) remain unknown. Furthermore, the current prognostic risk score system is commonly used in such patients as a noninvasive method to assess late AF recurrence. According to recent research, the Age, creatinine, and ejection fraction (ACEF) score is a useful risk score for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. As a result, we hypothesized that pre-ablation ACEF score could be used to assess late recurrence in patients with NVAF. We included 325 NVAF patients undergoing RFCA. During a median follow-up period of 12 months, patients with late AF recurrence had higher ACEF scores ( P  < .001). The pre-ablation ACEF score was a risk factor for late AF recurrence after RFCA ( P  = .027). The ACEF score was a predictor of late AF recurrence after RFCA, with an AUC of 0.624 ( P  = .001). Moreover, the AUC of left atrial diameter (LAD) was 0.7 ( P  < .001), which was higher than the ACEF score, but no significant difference was found ( P  = .104). The ACEF score was positively correlated with LAD, advanced age, and B-type natriuretic peptide. In patients with NVAF, the pre-ablation ACEF score is a valuable risk score for assessing late AF recurrence after RFCA, as with LAD.

Objective: We probed whether the addition of hemoglobin (HGB) or the female sex (SEX) as variables would provide additional prognostic value to the APPLE score., Methods: An optimized APPLE score was used to evaluate the AF recurrence risk in the consecutive populations with AF post-catheter ablation including the development (n = 562) and validation (n = 239) cohorts., Results: In the populations of AF recurrence, most patients were female sex (103/164, 62.8%), and had the lower HGB levels. After adjusting for the APPLE score, HGB level (Odds Ratio [OR], 0.828; 95% Confidence Interval [CI], 0.749-0.915; P < 0.001) and female sex (OR, 1.596; 95% CI, 1.140-2.235; P = 0.006) independently predicted AF recurrence. Adjusting the APPLE score by HGB variable improved its predictive ability for AF recurrence (C-statistic value from 0.675 to 0.711, P = 0.010), which also increased the C-indexes in the external validation (from 0.653 to 0.725, p = 0.023). The female sex variable also enhanced the C-statistic value of the APPLE score for AF recurrence at both development and external validation (C-indices from 0.675 to 0.691, P = 0.004; C-indices from 0.653 to 0.704, p = 0.037, respectively). Decision curve analysis showed that the HGB plus APPLE score was better than the SEX plus APPLE score in predicting AF recurrence in two following AF populations., Conclusion: The inclusion of HGB level and female sex variables improved the predictability and clinical usefulness of adjusted APPLE score. Background: The long-term success rate of nonparoxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) treated with pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) alone is not ideal. This may indicate atrial fibrosis as a major cause of recurrence. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate the efficacy of left atrial substrate modification (LASM) by targeting low-voltage area., Methods: A total of 157 consecutive patients with drug-refractory nonparoxysmal AF who underwent radiofrequency ablation during hospitalization in the Third People's Hospital of Chengdu from April 2017 to August 2021 were prospectively included. Stepwise ablation was performed in two different orders: LASM first (n=53) and PVI first (n=104) group. All patients underwent ablation during AF, and the procedural endpoint was AF termination during ablation. In the LASM first group, LASM was performed first and if AF was terminated, PVI was not performed. Similarly, in the PVI first groups, LASM was performed if AF was not terminated. The primary outcome were AF termination and freedom from AF. The secondary outcome was adverse events. Cox regression analysis was used to define predictors of AF termination, and Kaplan-Meier analysis was used to assess differences between groups in AF freedom., Results: The baseline characteristics of the two groups were similar. At a median follow-up of 16 months, the 112 patients (39 in LASM first group and 73 in PVI first group) with AF termination had a higher success rate than the 45 patients who had no AF termination (78.6% vs. 57.8%; P<0.01). The AF termination rate (24/53, 45.3% vs. 12/104, 11.5%; P<0.01) and AF freedom (20/24, 83.3% vs. 7/12, 58.3%; P=0.13) by LASM alone was higher than PVI alone. There were 3 cases of heart failure and 1 case of stroke (4/53) in the LASM first group, and 1 case of pericardial tamponade, 5 cases of heart failure and 1 case of stroke (7/104) in the LASM first group (7.5% vs. 6.7%; P>0.05)., Conclusions: LASM provides higher immediate success and a slightly better long-term success rate compared to PVI. Patients who terminated AF were more likely to have AF freedom than those who did not. Purpose: To investigate the effect and comprehensive predictive value of the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) for long-term recurrence in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) post ablation., Patients and Methods: We retrospectively analysed 638 consecutive AF patients who underwent ablation, including 302 (47.3%) with paroxysmal AF and 336 (52.7%) with nonparoxysmal AF. Patients were grouped into the recurrence and nonrecurrence groups., Results: After a mean follow-up of 15.1±9.3 months, 175 patients (27.4%) with AF had long-term recurrence, including 114 patients (33.9%) with nonparoxysmal AF and 61 patients (20.2%) with paroxysmal AF. In the entire cohort and in patients with nonparoxysmal AF, but not in those with paroxysmal AF, the PLR was significantly higher in the recurrence group than in the nonrecurrence group (P<0.05). After adjusting for the APPLE score, the PLR as a continuous variable independently predicted AF recurrence (hazard ratio [HR], 1.003; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.001-1.005; P<0.01). The addition of the PLR to the APPLE score improved its predictive ability for recurrence (the C-statistic value increased from 0.645 to 0.675, P=0.02; the net reclassification improvement was 0.221, 95% CI 0.049-0.394, P=0.01; and the integrated discrimination improvement was 0.029, 95% CI 0.013-0.045, P<0.01). For nonparoxysmal AF, the PLR was stratified into tertiles, the PLR independently increased the nonparoxysmal AF recurrence risk after adjusting for multiple confounding factors (HR, 1.393; 95% CI, 1.102-1.762; P<0.01), and the addition of the PLR to the left atrial diameter improved its predictive ability for arrhythmia recurrence (the C-statistic value increased from 0.601 to 0.667, P<0.01)., Conclusion: The PLR is an independent predictive factor of long-term AF recurrence post ablation after adjusting for the APPLE score and can improve the predictive ability and clinical usefulness of the APPLE score. Nanomedicines are potentially useful for targeted cancer chemotherapy; however, it is difficult to design nanomedicines with controllable structures and functions to overcome a series of biological and pathological barriers to efficiently kill cancer cells in vivo. Here, this work reports in situ growth of dual-acid-sensitive poly(tertiary amine)-doxorubicin conjugates from albumin to form dual-acid-sensitive albumin-poly(tertiary amine)-doxorubicin conjugates that self-assemble into nanospheres and nanoworms in a controlled manner. Both nanospheres and nanoworms rapidly dissociate into positively-charged unimers at pH < 6.9 and quickly releases the conjugated drug of doxorubicin at pH < 5.6, leading to enhanced penetration in tumor cell spheroids as well as improved uptake and cytotoxicity to tumor cells at pH < 6.9. Notably, nanoworms are less taken up by endothelial cells than nanospheres and doxorubicin, leading to improved pharmacokinetics. In a mouse model of triple negative breast cancer, nanoworms accumulate and penetrate into tumors more efficiently than nanospheres and doxorubicin, leading to enhanced tumor accumulation and penetration. As a result, nanoworms outperform nanospheres and doxorubicin in suppressing tumor growth and elongating the animal survival time, without observed side effects. Hypersonic vehicles encounter hostile service environments of thermal/mechanical/chemical coupling, so thermal protection materials are crucial and essential. Ceramizable composites have recently attracted intensive interest due to their ability to provide large-area thermal protection for hypersonic vehicles. In this work, a novel ceramizable composite of quartz fiber/benzoxazine resin modified with fused SiO 2 and h-BN was fabricated using a prepreg compression molding technique. The effects of the fused SiO 2 and h-BN contents on the thermal, mechanical, and ablative properties of the ceramizable composite were systematically investigated. The ceramizable composite with an optimized amount of fused SiO 2 and h-BN exhibited superb thermal stability, with a peak degradation temperature and residue yield at 1400 °C of 533.2 °C and 71.5%, respectively. Moreover, the modified ceramizable composite exhibited excellent load-bearing capacity with a flexural strength of 402.2 MPa and superior ablation resistance with a linear ablation rate of 0.0147 mm/s at a heat flux of 4.2 MW/m 2 , which was significantly better than the pristine quartz fiber/benzoxazine resin composite. In addition, possible ablation mechanisms were revealed based on the microstructure analysis, phase transformation, chemical bonding states, and the degree of graphitization of the ceramized products. The readily oxidized pyrolytic carbon (PyC) and the SiO 2 with a relatively low melting point were converted in situ into refractory carbide. Thus, a robust thermal protective barrier with SiC as the skeleton and borosilicate glass as the matrix protected the composite from severe thermochemical erosion and thermomechanical denudation.

Aims: The predictive value of the stress hyperglycemia ratio (SHR) for long-term prognosis in acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is inconsistent. Whether the SHR provides additional prognostic value in addition to the GRACE score in ACS patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) remains unknown., Methods: A development-validation method was adopted to develop an algorithm to adjust the GRACE score using the SHR in ACS patients undergoing PCI from 11 hospitals., Results: During a median follow-up of 31.33 months, the occurrence of major adverse cardiac events (MACEs), defined as a composite of all-cause mortality and nonfatal myocardial infarction, was more frequent in the patients with a higher level of SHR. The SHR independently predicted long-term MACEs (hazard ratio 3.3479; 95% CI 1.4103-7.9475; P = 0.0062). The cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS) and nuclear-controlled fertility restoration system is a favorable tool for the utilization of heterosis in plant hybrid breeding. Many restorer-of-fertility ( Rf ) genes have been characterized in various species over the decades, but more detailed work is needed to investigate the fertility restoration mechanism. Here, we identified an alpha subunit of mitochondrial processing peptidase (MPPA) that is involved in the fertility restoration process in Honglian-CMS rice. MPPA is a mitochondrial localized protein and interacted with the RF6 protein encoded by the Rf6 . MPPA indirectly interacted with hexokinase 6, namely another partner of RF6, to form a protein complex with the same molecular weight as the mitochondrial F 1 F 0 -ATP synthase in processing the CMS transcript. Loss-of-function of MPPA resulted in a defect in pollen fertility, the mppa +/- heterozygotes showed semi-sterility phenotype and the accumulation of CMS-associated protein ORFH79, showing restrained processing of the CMS-associated atp6-OrfH79 in the mutant plant. Taken together, these results threw new light on the process of fertility restoration by investigating the RF6 fertility restoration complex. They also reveal the connections between signal peptide cleavage and the fertility restoration process in Honglian-CMS rice.

PEGylation prolongs the blood circulation time of drugs; however, it simultaneously reduces the tumor penetration of drugs due to the nonfouling function and bulky hydrodynamic volume of PEG, leading to unsatisfactory outcomes in the treatment of solid tumors. Herein, we report the in situ growth of a bioreducible polymer of poly( N -oxide) from an important protein drug of interferon alpha (IFN) to generate site-specific IFN-poly( N -oxide) conjugates with higher bioactivity than a clinically used PEGylated IFN of PEGASYS. An IFN-poly( N -oxide) conjugate is screened out to have a circulating half-life as long as 51 h, which is similar to that of PEGASYS but 96-fold greater than that of IFN. However, the conjugate greatly outperforms PEGASYS and IFN in tumor penetration and antitumor efficacy in mice bearing melanoma. This enhanced tumor penetration is ascribed to the adsorption-mediated transcytosis of the conjugate whose poly( N -oxide) is biologically reduced into poly(tertiary amine), under hypoxia, which can be further protonated in the acidic tumor microenvironment. These novel findings demonstrate that poly( N -oxide)s are not only long-circulating but also bioreducible under hypoxia and are of great promise as next-generation carriers to deliver drugs into the interior of solid tumors to enhance their antitumor efficacy.

Nitrogen metabolism (NM) plays an essential role in response to abiotic stresses for plants. Enzyme activities have been extensively studied for nitrogen metabolism-associated pathways, but the knowledge of nitrogen metabolism-associated genes involved in stress response is still limited, especially for rice. In this study, we performed the genome-wide characterization of the genes putatively involved in nitrogen metabolism. A total of 1110 potential genes were obtained to be involved in nitrogen metabolism from eight species ( Arabidopsis thaliana (L.) Heynh., Glycine max (L.) Merr., Brassica napus L., Triticum aestivum L., Sorghum bicolor L., Zea mays L., Oryza sativa L. and Amborella trichopoda Baill.), especially 104 genes in rice. The comparative phylogenetic analysis of the superfamily revealed the complicated divergence of different NM genes. The expression analysis among different tissues in rice indicates the NM genes showed diverse functions in the pathway of nitrogen absorption and assimilation. Distinct expression patterns of NM genes were observed in rice under drought stress, heat stress, and salt stress, indicating that the NM genes play a curial role in response to abiotic stress. Most NM genes showed a down-regulated pattern under heat stress, while complicated expression patterns were observed for different genes under salt stress and drought stress. The function of four representative NM genes ( OsGS2 , OsGLU , OsGDH2 , and OsAMT1;1 ) was further validated by using qRT-PCR analysis to confirm their responses to these abiotic stresses. Based on the predicted transcription factor binding sites (TFBSs), we built a co-expression regulatory network containing transcription factors (TFs) and NM genes, of which the constructed ERF and Dof genes may act as the core genes to respond to abiotic stresses. This study provides novel sights to the interaction between nitrogen metabolism and the response to abiotic stresses.

Air quality is changing due to the influence of industry, agriculture, people's living activities and other factors. Traditional machine learning methods generally do not consider the time series of the data itself and cannot handle long-range dependencies, thus ignoring information relevant to the predicted items and affecting the accuracy of air quality predictions. Therefore, an attention mechanism is introduced based on the long short term memory network model (LSTM), which attenuates unimportant information by controlling the proportion of the weight distribution. Finally, an integrated lightGBM+LSTM-attention model was constructed based on the light gradient boosting machine (lightGBM), and the prediction results were compared with those of 11 models. The experimental results show that the integrated model constructed in this article performs better, with the coefficient of determination (R2) of prediction accuracy reaching 0.969 and the root mean square error (RMSE) improving by 5.09, 4.94, 4.85 and 4.0 respectively compared to other models, verifying the superiority of the model., Competing Interests: The authors declare that they have no competing interests., (© 2022 Huang et al.)

Introduction: The highly conserved tubby-like proteins (TLPs) play key roles in animal neuronal development and plant growth. The abiotic stress tolerance function of TLPs has been widely explored in plants, however, little is known about comparative studies of TLPs within crops., Methods: Bioinformatic identification, phylogenetic analysis, Cis-element analysis, expression analysis, Cis-element analysis, expression analysis and so on were explored to analysis the TLP gene family of multiple crops., Results: In this study, a comprehensive analysis of TLP genes were carried out in seven crops to explore whether similar function of TLPs in rice could be achieved in other crops. We identified 20, 9, 14, 11, 12, 35, 14 and 13 TLP genes in Glycine max , Hordeum vulgare , Sorghum bicolor , Arabidopsis thaliana , Oryza sativa Japonica , Triticum aestivum , Setaria italic and Zea mays , respectively. All of them were divided into two groups and ten orthogroups (Ors) based on amino acids. A majority of TLP genes had two domains, tubby-like domain and F-box domain, while members of Or5 only had tubby-like domain. In addition, Or5 had more exons and shorter DNA sequences, showing that characteristics of different Ors reflected the differentiated function and feature of TLP genes in evolutionary process, and Or5 was the most different from the other Ors. Besides, we recognized 25 cis -elements in the promoter of TLP genes and explored multiple new regulation pathway of TLPs including light and hormone response. The bioinformatic and transcriptomic analysis implied the stresses induced expression and possible functional redundancy of TLP genes. We detected the expression level of 6 OsTLP genes at 1 to 6 days after seed germination in rice, and the most obvious changes in these days were appeared in OsTLP10 and OsTLP12., Discussion: Combined yeast two-hybrid system and pull down assay, we suggested that the TLP genes of Or1 may have similar function during seed germination in different species. Background: The Global Registry of Acute Coronary Events (GRACE) score derived from clinical parameters at the time of hospital discharge is a powerful predictor of long-term mortality and reinfarction after acute coronary syndrome (ACS). The triglyceride glucose (TyG) index, which is a simple and reliable surrogate marker of insulin resistance, has been demonstrated to be an independent predictor of long-term adverse major adverse cardiac events, irrespective of diabetes mellitus. We investigate whether the addition of the TyG index improves the predictive ability of the GRACE score after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in ACS patients regardless of diabetes mellitus., Method: A retrospective cohort of 986 ACS patients undergoing PCI was enrolled in the present analyses. The GRACE score for discharge to 6 months and the TyG index were calculated. The primary endpoint was the composite of MACEs, including all-cause death and nonfatal myocardial infarction. Patients were stratified according to the primary endpoint and the tertiles of the TyG index. Cumulative curves were calculated using the Kaplan-Meier method. Multivariate Cox regression was adopted to identify predictors of MACEs. The predictive value of the GRACE score alone and combined with the TyG index or fasting blood glucose (FBG) was estimated by the area under the receiver‑operating characteristic curve, likelihood ratio test, Akaike's information criteria, continuous net reclassification improvement (NRI), and integrated discrimination improvement (IDI). Internal validation was assessed using the means of bootstrap method with 1000 bootstrapped samples., Results: During a median follow-up of 30.72 months ((interquartile range, 26.13 to 35.07 months), 90 patients developed MACEs, more frequently in the patients with a higher TyG index. Multivariate Cox hazards regression analysis found that the TyG index, but not FBG was an independent predictor of MACEs (hazard ratio 1.6542; 95% CI 1.1555-2.3681; P = 0.006) in all types of ACS regardless of diabetes mellitus when included in the same model as GRACE score. Furthermore, Kaplan-Meier analysis revealed that the incidence of the primary endpoint rose with increasing TyG index tertiles (log-rank, P < 0.01). Adjustment the GRACE score by the TyG index improved the predictive ability for MACEs (increase in C-statistic value from 0.735 to 0.744; NRI, 0.282, 95% CI 0.028-0.426, P = 0.02; IDI, 0.019, 95% CI 0.004-0.046, P = 0.01). Likelihood ratio test showed that the TyG index significantly improved the prognostic ability of the GRACE score (χ 2  = 12.37, 1 df; P < 0.001). The results remained consistent when the models were confirmed by internal bootstrap validation method., Conclusion: The TyG index, but not FBG is an independent predictor of long-term MACEs after PCI in all types of ACS patients regardless of diabetes mellitus after adjusting for the GRACE score, and improves the ability of the GRACE score to stratify risk and predict prognosis of ACS patients undergoing PCI., (© 2022. As a sessile organism, rice often faces various kinds of abiotic stresses, such as drought stress. Drought stress seriously harms plant growth and damages crop yield every year. Therefore, it is urgent to elucidate the mechanisms of drought resistance in rice. In this study, we identified a glycine-rich RNA-binding protein, OsGRP3, in rice. Evolutionary analysis showed that it was closely related to OsGR-RBP4, which was involved in various abiotic stresses. The expression of OsGRP3 was shown to be induced by several abiotic stress treatments and phytohormone treatments. Then, the drought tolerance tests of transgenic plants confirmed that OsGRP3 enhanced drought resistance in rice. Meanwhile, the yeast two-hybrid assay, bimolecular luminescence complementation assay and bimolecular fluorescence complementation assay demonstrated that OsGRP3 bound with itself may affect the RNA chaperone function. Subsequently, the RNA-seq analysis, physiological experiments and histochemical staining showed that OsGRP3 influenced the phenylpropanoid biosynthesis pathway and further modulated lignin accumulation. Herein, our findings suggested that OsGRP3 enhanced drought resistance in rice by altering the phenylpropanoid biosynthesis pathway and further increasing lignin accumulation.

Postoperative follow-up is crucial for the clinical management of patients carrying cardiovascular implantable electronic devices (CIED). However, in a plethora of underdeveloped areas of China, due to limited medical resources and associated economic costs, geographical restrictions, the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, and various other reasons, the medical system is unable to meet the ever-increasing demand for long-term clinical follow-up and telemedicine services. Based on these challenges, postoperative remote follow-up of CIED based on the 5G-cloud technology support platform (5G-CTP) may have the potential to optimize the allocation of medical resources and provide patients with high-quality CIED follow-up services locally. These unique characteristics of CIED follow-up utilizing 5G-CTP are qualified to protect the safety of the patients in terms of both clinical safety and cyber security. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) continues to be one of the most fatal malignancies with increasing morbidity, and potent therapeutics are urgently required given its insensitivity to traditional treatments. Here, we have developed a microenvironment-responsive FePt probes for the highly efficient Fenton-enhanced radiotherapy (FERT) of HCC. The selective release of Fe 2+ in the acidic tumor microenvironment, but not in normal tissue, together with enhanced levels of hydrogen peroxide produced through the Pt radiosensitization effect, facilitates the generation of an enormous amount of hydroxyl radicals through the Fenton reaction, thereby extending the radiotherapeutic cascade and realizing a powerful therapeutic efficacy for HCC. Moreover, the "burst" release of Fe 2+ contributes to the T2-to-T1 magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) switching effect, which informs the release of Fe 2+ , making imaging-guided cancer therapy feasible. The consensus problem is considered for multi-agent systems with disturbances. Three fixed-time prescribed performance methods are proposed to satisfy the transient performance and steady-state performance of multi-agent systems consensus. If the multi-agent systems are affected by matched disturbances, the consensus tracking errors constraints are guaranteed at first. Next, the consensus tracking errors constraints and their change rates constraints are further considered. Moreover, with the help of a fixed-time observer, the consensus tracking errors constraints result is expended to the case of multi-agent systems affected by mismatched disturbances. The proposed methods can provide the satisfactory system performances, including that consensus tracking errors always evolve within predefined bounds, converge to a small closed region containing zero in fixed time and then converge to zero asymptotically. Understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying complex phenotypes requires systematic analyses of complicated metabolic networks and contributes to improvements in the breeding efficiency of staple cereal crops and diagnostic accuracy for human diseases. Here, we selected rice (Oryza sativa) heterosis as a complex phenotype and investigated the mechanisms of both vegetative and reproductive traits using an untargeted metabolomics strategy. Heterosis-associated analytes were identified, and the overlapping analytes were shown to underlie the association patterns for six agronomic traits. The heterosis-associated analytes of four yield components and plant height collectively contributed to yield heterosis, and the degree of contribution differed among the five traits. We performed dysregulated network analyses of the high- and low-better parent heterosis hybrids and found multiple types of metabolic pathways involved in heterosis. The metabolite levels of the significantly enriched pathways (especially those from amino acid and carbohydrate metabolism) were predictive of yield heterosis (area under the curve = 0.907 with 10 features), and the predictability of these pathway biomarkers was validated with hybrids across environments and populations. Photoacoustic imaging (PAI) in the second near-infrared window (NIR-II) is conducive to deep-tissue imaging due to small scattering coefficients, but often requires exogenous imaging agents. At present, nanoparticle-based NIR-II imaging agents are mainly used in non-clinical studies, some basic components of which are resistant to metabolism in vivo. The aim of this study was to examine the ∼600 Da croconaine absorber A1094, absorbing lights around 1094 nm, as a rare, small-molecule NIR-II imaging agent in vivo. The clinical translational potential of A1094 injection were systematically revealed, including sufficient solubility and freeness in blood, good anti-interference ability, and favourable pH/oxidation-reduction/metabolic stabilities. After intravenous administration of A1094 injection, PAI of murine ears exhibited comparable capillaries visibility to that of PAI with popular Au nanorods. The contrasts achieved with A1094 and Au nanorods were 1.78 and 1.29 times higher than before administration, in the healthy group, and 3.25 and 1.58 times higher in the inflammation group. Notably, A1094 demonstrated a desired faster liver clearance than Au nanorods. The PAI signal of A1094 was cleared by 74.2 % after 3 h, whereas Au nanorods were only cleared by 43.1 %. The main metabolic mechanisms of A1094 were identified as N-methylation and lipid hydrolysis by murine liver microsomes in vitro. Upscaling efficient and stable perovskite layers is one of the most challenging issues in the commercialization of perovskite solar cells. Here, a lead halide-templated crystallization strategy is developed for printing formamidinium (FA)-cesium (Cs) lead triiodide perovskite films. High-quality large-area films are achieved through controlled nucleation and growth of a lead halide• N -methyl-2-pyrrolidone adduct that can react in situ with embedded FAI/CsI to directly form α-phase perovskite, sidestepping the phase transformation from δ-phase. A nonencapsulated device with 23% efficiency and excellent long-term thermal stability (at 85°C) in ambient air (~80% efficiency retention after 500 hours) is achieved with further addition of potassium hexafluorophosphate. Alloying of Pt with Ru to form ultrafine and well-defined PtRu alloy nanoparticles (NPs) for synergistically electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution is highly desirable but remains a synthetic challenge. Here, we report a strong electrostatic adsorption (SEA)-assisted fabrication of ultrafine and homogeneously distributed PtRu alloy NPs using ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid tetrasodium-derived carbon (EC) as a matrix. The O, N-rich EC with a hierarchically macro/meso/microporous structure and the SEA-assisted formation of the [Ru(bpy) 3 ][PtCl 6 ] complex ensure the successful generation of ultrasmall PtRu alloy NPs (2.93 nm in diameter) with high dispersion. The optimal PtRu/EC-700 delivers excellent electrocatalytic properties with an ultralow overpotential (η 10 = 18 mV), robust durability and good long-term stability for the alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The ultrasmall PtRu alloy NPs with rich surface sites, the synergistic catalysis effect between Pt and Ru and the hierarchically macro/meso/microporous structure of O, N-rich EC cooperatively enhance the HER performance of PtRu/EC-700. This study provides an easy but effective way to construct metal alloy NPs with an ultrafine size and high dispersity for catalytic applications.

Side-chain engineering has been an effective strategy in tuning electronic energy levels, intermolecular interaction, and aggregation morphology of organic photovoltaic materials, which is very important for improving the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of organic solar cells (OSCs). In this work, two D-A copolymers, PBQ5 and PBQ6, are designed and synthesized based on bithienyl-benzodithiophene (BDTT) as the donor (D) unit, difluoroquinoxaline (DFQ) with different side chains as the acceptor (A) unit, and thiophene as the π-bridges. PBQ6 with two alkyl-substituted fluorothiophene side chains on the DFQ units possesses redshifted absorption, stronger intermolecular interaction, and higher hole mobility than PBQ5 with two alkyl side chains on the DFQ units. The blend film of the PBQ6 donor with the Y6 acceptor shows higher and balanced hole/electron mobilities, less charge carrier recombination, and more favorable aggregation morphology. Therefore, the OSC based on PBQ6:Y6 achieves a PCE as high as 17.62% with a high fill factor of 77.91%, which is significantly higher than the PCE (15.55%) of the PBQ5:Y6-based OSC. The band edges of metal-halide perovskites with a general chemical structure of ABX 3 (A, usually a monovalent organic cation; B, a divalent cation; and X, a halide anion) are constructed mainly of the orbitals from B and X sites. Hence, the structural and compositional varieties of the inorganic B-X framework are primarily responsible for regulating their electronic properties, whereas A-site cations are thought to only help stabilize the lattice and not to directly contribute to near-edge states. We report a π-conjugation-induced extension of electronic states of A-site cations that affects perovskite frontier orbitals. The π-conjugated pyrene-containing A-site cations electronically contribute to the surface band edges and influence the carrier dynamics, with a properly tailored intercalation distance between layers of the inorganic framework. The extensive use of halomethanes (CH 3 X, X = F, Cl, Br, I) as refrigerants, propellants, and pesticides has drawn serious concern due to their adverse biological and atmospheric impact. However, there are currently no portable rapid and accurate monitoring systems for their detection. This work introduces an approach for the selective and sensitive detection of halomethanes using photoluminescence spectral shifts in cesium lead halide perovskite nanocrystals. Focusing on iodomethane (CH 3 I) as a model system, it is shown that cesium lead bromide (CsPbBr 3 ) nanocrystals can undergo rapid (<5 s) halide exchange, but only after exposure to oleylamine to induce nucleophilic substitution of the CH 3 I and release the iodide species. The extent of the halide exchange is directly dependent on the CH 3 I concentration, with the photoluminescence emission of the CsPbBr 3 nanocrystals exhibiting a redshift of more than 150 nm upon the addition of 10 ppmv of CH 3 I. This represents the widest detection range and the highest sensitivity to the detection of halomethanes using a low-cost and portable approach reported to date. Furthermore, inherent selectivity for halomethanes compared to other organohalide analogues is achieved through the dramatic differences in their alkylation reactivity.

Nanoparticle-based photothermal ablation (PTA) has been intensively investigated recently. However, the poor biocompatibility of most PTA agents and potential long-term toxicity obstruct their clinical translation. Meanwhile, previous PTA studies are limited to surface tumors because of insufficient light penetration depth of near-infrared (NIR) light for deep abdominal tumors. Therefore, minimally invasive PTA combined with biocompatible agents may pave a promising way to treat deep orthotopic hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Herein, a multifunctional agent based on superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO) and new indocyanine green (IR820) was constructed with good biocompatibility. Outstanding fluorescence, photoacoustic and magnetic resonance imaging capabilities were observed in vitro. Additionally, in vivo results indicated that early-stage HCC (diameter less than 2 mm) could be effectively detected by this agent. Furthermore, for the first time, we developed minimally invasive laparoscopic-assisted photothermal ablation (L-A PTA) method coupled with this agent to completely ablate orthotopic HCC in nude mice model, neither recurrences nor obvious side effects were observed during the experiments. Remarkable shrinkage of primary tumor and disappearance of intrahepatic metastasis were also observed. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease that often causes progressive joint dysfunction, even disability and death in severe cases. The radical improvement of inflammatory cell infiltration and the resulting disorder in oxygen supply is a novel therapeutic direction for RA. Herein, a near-infrared-absorbing metal/semiconductor composite, polyethylene glycol-modified ceria-shell-coated gold nanorod (Au@CeO 2 ), is fabricated for topical photothermal/oxygen-enriched combination therapy for RA in a mouse model. Upon laser irradiation, the photothermal conversion of Au@CeO 2 is exponentially enhanced by the localized surface plasma resonance-induced light focusing. The elevated temperature can not only remarkably obliterate hyperproliferative inflammatory cells gathered in diseased joints but also vastly increase the catalase-like activity of ceria to accelerate the decomposition of H 2 O 2 to produce much oxygen, which relieves hypoxia. Significantly, RA-induced lesions are improved, and the expression of proinflammatory cytokines and hypoxia-inducible factors is effectively repressed under the cooperation of heat and oxygen. Overall, the core/shell-structured Au@CeO 2 is a promising nanotherapeutic platform that can well realize light-driven heat/oxygen enrichment to completely cure RA from the perspective of pathogenesis.

It is very important to fine-tune the nanoscale morphology of donor:acceptor blend active layers for improving the photovoltaic performance of all-small-molecule organic solar cells (SM-OSCs). In this work, two new small molecule donor materials are synthesized with different substituents on their thiophene conjugated side chains, including SM1-S with alkylthio and SM1-F with fluorine and alkyl substituents, and the previously reported donor molecule SM1 with an alkyl substituent, for investigating the effect of different conjugated side chains on the molecular aggregation and the photophysical, and photovoltaic properties of the donor molecules. As a result, an SM1-F-based SM-OSC with Y6 as the acceptor, and with thermal annealing (TA) at 120 °C for 10 min, demonstrates the highest power conversion efficiency value of 14.07%, which is one of the best values for SM-OSCs reported so far. Besides, these results also reveal that different side chains of the small molecules can distinctly influence the crystallinity characteristics and aggregation features, and TA treatment can effectively fine-tune the phase separation to form suitable donor-acceptor interpenetrating networks, which is beneficial for exciton dissociation and charge transportation, leading to highly efficient photovoltaic performance., (© 2020 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Rapid processing technologies of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) offer an exciting approach to raise the rate of production. Herein, a rapid microwave-annealing process (MAP) is reported to replace the traditional hotplate annealing process (HAP) and the processing period of perovskite is reduced to less than 1 min. Benefiting from the penetrability and simultaneity of microwave irradiation, the MAP method can effectively eliminate miscellaneous phases and thus achieve >1 µm large-size crystal grains in perovskite films. These MAP treated perovskite films exhibit pure crystalline phase, long charge-carrier lifetime, and low defect density, which can substantially improve the PSC efficiency without requiring an additional enhancer/passivation layer. The inverted planar PSCs present enhanced power conversion efficiency from 18.33% (HAP) to 21.59% (MAP) and good stability of >1000 h lifetime without encapsulation under ambient conditions. In addition, MAP can be applied to a large-size (10 cm × 10 cm) perovskite film fabrication as well as a broader tolerance in environmental temperature and precursor concentration, making it a reliable method for repeatably practical fabrication of perovskite photovoltaics., Competing Interests: The authors declare no conflict of interest., (© 2020 The Authors. The preparation of high-quality perovskite films is important for achieving high-performance perovskite solar cells (PSCs). The effective balance between solvent and antisolvent is an essential factor for regulating high-quality perovskite film during the spin-coating and thermal-annealing steps. In this work, a greener, nonhalogenated, nontoxic bifunctional (anti)solvent, methyl benzoate (MB), is developed not only as an antisolvent to rapidly generate crystal seeds at the perovskite spin-coating step, but also as a digestive-ripening solvent for the perovskite precursors, which can prevent the loss of organic components during the thermal-annealing stage and effectively suppress the formation of miscellaneous lead halide phases. As a result, this novel bifunctional (anti)solvent is employed in planar n-i-p PSCs for engineering high-quality perovskite layers and thus achieving a power conversion efficiency up to 22.37% with negligible hysteresis and >1300 h stability. Moreover, due to the high boiling point and low-volatility characteristic of MB, high-performance PSCs are achieved reproducibly at different operating temperatures (22-34 °C). Flexible organic photovoltaics (OPVs) are promising power sources for wearable electronics. However, it is challenging to simultaneously achieve high efficiency as well as good stability under various stresses. Herein, we demonstrate the fabrication of highly efficient (efficiency, 13.2%) and stable OPVs based on nonfullerene blends by a single-step postannealing treatment. The device performance decreases dramatically after annealing at 90 °C and is fully recovered after annealing at 150 °C. Glass-encapsulated annealed OPVs show good environmental stability with 4.8% loss in efficiency after 4,736 h and an estimated T 80 lifetime (80% of the initial power conversion efficiency) of over 20,750 h in the dark under ambient condition and T 80 lifetime of 1,050 h at 85 °C and 30% relative humidity. This environmental stability is enabled by the synergetic effect of the stable morphology of donor/acceptor blends and thermally stabilized interfaces due to doping. Furthermore, the high efficiency and good stability are almost 100% retained in ultraflexible OPVs and minimodules which are mechanically robust and have long-term operation capability and thus are promising for future self-powered and wearable electronics., Competing Interests: The authors declare no competing interest.

Significant increases in rice yield and stress resistance are constant demands for breeders. However, high yield and high stress resistance are often antagonistic to each other. Here, we report several new rice mutants with high yield and excellent cold tolerance that were generated by simultaneously editing three genes, OsPIN5b (a panicle length gene), GS3 (a grain size gene) and OsMYB30 (a cold tolerance gene) with the CRISPR-Cas9 (clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats-associated protein 9) system. We edited two target sites of each gene with high efficiency: 53% for OsPIN5b -site1, 42% for OsPIN5b -site2, 66% for GS3 -site1, 63% for GS3 -site2, 63% for OsMYB30 -site1, and 58% for OsMYB30 -site2. Consequently, the ospin5b mutants, the gs3 mutants, and the osmyb30 mutants exhibited increased panicle length, enlarged grain size and increased cold tolerance, respectively. Then nine transgenic lines of the ospin5b/gs3 , six lines of ospin5b/osmyb30 and six lines of gs3/osmyb30 were also acquired, and their yield related traits and cold tolerance corresponded to the genes being edited. Additionally, we obtained eight ospin5b/gs3/osmyb30 triple mutants by editing all three genes simultaneously. Aside from the ospin5b/gs3/osmyb30-4 and ospin5b/gs3/osmyb30-25 mutants, the remaining six mutants had off-target events at the putative off-target site of OsMYB30 -site1. The results also showed that the T 2 generations of these two mutants exhibited higher yield and better cold tolerance compared with the wild type. Together, these results demonstrated that new and excellent rice varieties with improved yield and abiotic stress resistance can be generated through gene editing techniques and may be applied to rice breeding. Improvement of the breeding efficiencies of heterotic crops adaptive to different conditions can mitigate the food shortage crisis due to overpopulation and climate change. To date, diverse molecular markers have been used to guide field phenotypic selection, whereas accurate predictions of complex heterotic traits are rarely reported. Here, we present a practical metabolome-based strategy for predicting yield heterosis in rice. The dissection of population structure based on untargeted metabolite profiles as the initial critical step in multivariate modeling performed better than the screening of predictive variables. Then the assessment of each predictive variable's contribution to predictive models according to all latent factors was more precise than the conventional first one. Metabolites belonging to specific pathways were closely associated with yield heterosis, and the up-regulation of galactose metabolism promoted robust yield heterosis in hybrids under different growth conditions. Our study demonstrates that metabolome-based predictive models with correctly dissected population structure and screened predictive variables can facilitate accurate predictions of yield heterosis and have great potential for establishing molecular marker-based precision breeding programs., (© 2019 Dan et al.)

Hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites with appealing optoelectronic properties have attracted significant interest for photovoltaic application. The use of chloride (Cl - )-containing species to induce improved perovskite thin-film microstructures and improved optoelectronic properties is well-established. However, the mechanism for the formation of perovskite films with highly textured, micron-sized grains in the presence of Cl - is not well established. Using synchrotron-based in situ two-dimensional grazing incidence wide-angle X-ray scattering complemented by scanning electron microscopy imaging, we present an oriented attachment mechanism via mineral bridge formation for the microstructural evolution of perovskite films post-treated with methylammonium chloride. We have identified the crucial role of the chlorine-containing intermediate phase as the mineral bridge, which enables the reorientation of primary, nanoscale perovskite grains followed by fusion into uniaxial oriented quasi-single crystal grains. The resulting perovskite films exhibit micron-sized grains with preferential orientation of the tetragonal (110) direction perpendicular to the substrate, resulting in improved solar cell efficiency attributed to improved charge collection. Our findings help to understand the fundamental mechanisms of microstructure evolution via soft processing in hybrid perovskite films.
