During a research into a factory for the manufacture of cement-asbestos pipes and slabs in which 533 workers were employed the AA. have taken an interest, over all, in the working risks related to dusts, suggesting the more suitable defence principles in various working places. We can consider the remarks, though effected in different conditions, sure in the environment conditions (of atmosphere, work and materials) in which they were carried out. More reliable results could be obtained with various measurements taken from time to time. About the entity of the dust risks and especially in relation to a priority production of preventive measures, we must consider, before all, the dusts of asbestos, then the ones of cement-asbestos and at last, the ones of cement; naturally for the dusts of the same type the greatest risk is tied to the manufactures that produce them in greater amount.

A clinico-instrumental study has been carried out on 15 subjects who had been hospitalized for microangiopathy due to vibrating tools at the Work Medicine Institute of the 2nd Medical Faculty of Naples University. Various instrumental methods (in vivo nailbed microscopy, conjunctival biomicroscopy, finger photoplethysmography, hand-contact thermography) were employed. As a conclusion of the research and from the obtained results it is assumed that the evaluation of the various methods, as far as the microangiopathy due to vibrating tools is concerned, should be performed in a critical and exhaustive way. However, the in vivo nailbed microscopy integrated by conjunctival biomicroscopy seems to represent the most sensitive indicator of microcirculatory disorders in differentiating conditions of general microvascular pathology and for a more precise diagnosis and appropriate therapy.

Human polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs) were purified (approximately equal to 99%) from peripheral blood of normal, adult volunteers. The indirect immunofluorescence technique was used to investigate the presence and the localization of calmodulin in human PMNs. The cellular distribution of calmodulin has been evaluated using an affinity chromatography-purified sheep IgG anti-calmodulin and fluorescein-conjugated rabbit anti-sheep IgG. The anti-calmodulin immunofluorescence pattern suggests that calmodulin is evenly distributed throughout the cytoplasm of human PMNs.
